NoSanninWa's 5th synopsis: At the start of this episode the Bounto death count is 6 down, 3 to go. Only Yoshi, Koga and Kariya remain. Let's see if it changes by the end...
We start the episode with several 12th Division guards loitering outside the Bureau of Technological Development. They immediately burst into a monologue explaining why their location is relevant to our storyline. What a coincidence! It is awfully nice of them to remind us that Kariya is after something really dangerous. Then Kariya strolls up and comments on how nice the weather is. It's a good day to die. I mean, for everyone except him to die.
As Kariya crushes the red-shirted guards off-screen we get one of the highlights of the episode: Nemu demonstrating that when she isn't with Mayuri, he doesn't store her in a booth for recharging. Rather nice to see her working with underlings. Well, Ichigo and Chad both sense Kariya's overwhelming reiatsu while he crushes the guards and head in that direction, together. I hope they'll be in time to rescue Nemu.
Then Yoshi and Quincy Boy meet. Ishida runs away from her so that he can lure her to a rooftop that looks amazingly like the one where he fought Jirobo Ikkanzaka, the Kamaitachi. I guess he is only allowed a limited number of battle stages. Or maybe he just wants to relive the memories of that easy victory. Ah, sweet nostalgia.
I'll make the description of their battle short, but informative. This is easily the best fight of the entire arc. Ishida is fighting at a serious penalty because his weapon is unpredictable. This makes him slower than we're used to. It also means that he will do something we've never seen before. Ishida misses his target. Not once, but again and again. It's the fault of his weapon, so don't get upset about it. We also learn a lot more about Yoshi's powers. Her weapon is actually rather cool. It seems that when she is in absolute defense mode she cannot attack. This explains why she has used it sparingly in previous fights and I was happy to see that there was a reason. She also has an absolute offense mode that freakin' rocks! It's cool watching her switch between modes with her weapon and I'm really wishing we'd seen this before. I guess she had to keep it hiden until now or else Rukia would have died big-time. It's also interesting watching Ishida try to choose the times to fire his weapon when it's fluctuating power level is strong enough to hurt Yoshi, but not too strong because at max strength it will explode and kill him.
Meanwhile Kariya has broken into 12th Squad HQ and Nemu is crushed under rubble. She never even got a fight. :sob: :sob: Kariya is here for the crest. Crest? His ultimate weapon to destroy Soul Society is a crest? Well Ichigo lifts the rubble from Nemu and chases after Kariya into the vast storage vaults of this building. Kariya finds a place that resonates with his powers, but before he can locate the crest, Ichigo is there.
Ichigo steps up to Kariya and without a second glance goes, "Bankai Tensa Zangetsu," so easily that he's looking as if he's just going to bitchslap a punk. Cue the "Number One" song. Ichigo exclaims, "I'm not going to keep losing to you!" Lord knows I hope that's true. Of course, Kariya ain't no punk and he's a bit harder to smash than that, but Ichigo seems to have the better of him. Yay! Bitchslap that punkass loser! Unfortunately Chad is only an annoyance. Am I the only one who keeps fearing for the objects stored in this room every time Chad fires that blast? Then all of a sudden something erupts from below the floor during Kariya's attack. OMG! It's the crest. Jeezus that thing is bloody huge! Apparently it is a huge Bounto doll crest. He merges with the crest while Ichigo and Chad stand there gaping. They nicely give him time to do what he came there for. I thought that was very polite of them, but not very smart. Morons. Well, it seems that this crest is "Joukaishou," the Healing-Destruction Crest. Possessed of all the power that was used to create the Bounto, this crest has sufficient energy that if it was unleased on Soul Society, the whole region would be completely devestated. If Kariya is attacked he'll destroy everything. If they don't attack Kariya he will release it in 24 hours. Sounds like a win-win for Kariya. Or a lose-lose for anyone else. I wonder if Kariya will survive it? I guess since he only cares about revenge, it doesn't really matter to him. I guess he's got a terminal case of "I am an artificial life-form so I have to destroy the world." I see that a lot in RPGs by Squaresoft.
At the end of the episode, both Kariya and Yoshi are still alive. Kariya took off while we gape at his awesome master plan of total devestation. Yoshi and Ishida are still fighting.
The coming attractions is one of the funniest bits of the episode when Nemu offers Rin-rin an experimental gigai that Mayuri created for research purposes. Rin-rin loves the idea until Nemu offeres her the choice of squid-shaped, octopus-shaped or hand-shaped. Suddenly it doesn't seem quite so appealing. :heh:
Shinigami Cup Golden! Fun with Mayuri. Unfortunately the studio seems to be saving on their animation budget. We get to watch the same still picture throughout the entire segment while we hear Ichigo, Chad and Mayuri talking off-camera. Still, I had a good laugh, so it's all good.
Bounto death count: Unchanged. But next episode Yoshi is toast for sure!

Honestly, I didn't like the ep, save for Ishida's fight.
The "ultimate power" Kariya gained seemed too generic, and the Shinigami cup at the end was terrible. And Chad was just... there. Like he always is.

Ichi relies too much on Bankai >_< I really wanted to see Blood Guts n Glory . Also the funny part, despite Bankai he gets Bitch Slapped around . Bankai is like the last power up/the secret weapon

Man, i was hoping to see another bounto bite the dust, but guess not. I'm sorry but i don't see Ishida beating that bounto and imo hes a useless bitch, probably just as useless if not more than Rukia and Orihime. I wouldn't mind him dying at all lol. But im sure they will have him going all kamikaze style using his max power and risking his life and end up pulling off some miracle... I rather see another captain get into action and pwn Yoshi sinec we would we would be able to see some of their abilities.
I want to see Kariya vs Ichigo (half human/hollow form) duke it out, that would be pretty interesting. Or have the really old guy whose in charge of the squads fight Kariya since hes suppose to the buffest person.
Shinigami cup was alright, but yea seeing some animation instead of still picture would've been nice.

it seems to me like Ichigos bankai is getting more powerful also thats the 2nd time he use that black g who know maybe he will go hollow and kick is but.:frustrated:

@NoSanninWa: i'm not saying this to knock the bounto arc, as i actually like it (hey, it's infinitely better than the mod soul mini-arc), but your summaries are so much better than the actual episodes... i wish the whole thing were narrated by you... or kon's seiyu could read your summary over the episode... thanks NSW!
and to all ye who complain about ishida and wish for his unceremonious death:
just wait till we get back on the manga storyline... i think you will not complain anymore then...
i thought yoshi's powers were awesome... she should totally pawn ishida, but i think ran tao will save him... too bad she has to die, as i think she's a decent character... best character design of all the bounto

Well, not too impressed by the ep, aside from Ishida x Yoshi fight. As far as entertainment value goes NSW wins again. NSW 4 / Bleach 1.
I really liked Yoshi's complete attack/defense mode. It was rather refreshing to see her fight that way, and she was completely owning Ishida. Kariya vs Ichigo = lame, they both seemed anemic. And what was up with Chad blasting left and right in a room filled with god knows what made by Mayuri ? I seriously was expecting something to go boom.
Ichigo and Chad ofc stand there like drooling idiots while Kariya recieves his power up. I gues thats normal in this genere so i cant complain much, can i ? I have given up on logical actions long ago.
Ok, so Kariya gives them 24h to tremble in fear. Um...hello ? If your goal was to destroy SS then how about getting to work? Well logic is not the strong point of imba fighters i supose...
Ishida/Yoshi fight = good, everything else = meh.
anyone else think that Yoshi's complete attack mode looks like a mini Senbonzakura Kageyoshi (you know, only her swords are all white whereas only one of byakuya's is white and the rest are pink)?
wow, that was actually a really good episode.
the animation quality really shot up (alot more fluid, not as many mistakes with perspective and the "camera" angles were much better than usual.)
certain parts of the animation were almost movie quality (maybe the movie team finally finished work on the movie? havent heard anything about it for months).
EDIT: yeah, and that one blow Ichida took totally pwned.

At least, they show a bit of Kariya's movements. And shinigami's cup was...hideous :heh:

Yeah not a bad episode in general. Interesting watching Ishida try and deal with that unstable battle accessory. Not sure how that fight is going to work out, he's having enough trouble getting a powerful shot out of the thing without having to deal with that defence. Hopefully it's just a few more episodes before this arc is done.
Hm.. I liked the Golden. I thought the bit worked because we couldn't see what part of Mayuri Chad/Ichi is grabbing, and what part would be ripped off... His ear sword thingie? ...or something else? *shudders*
Are there filler orignal for Shinigami's Cup Golden ? I have seen Shinigami's Cup Golden in manga . Saying this in refference to recent quality of SCG in recent ep . Sadly during Mod Soul Arc that SCG was highlight of Bleach .

quite a nice fight and a good plot twist...so now kariya is threatening to blow up the whole of SS...24 hours of fear? O.o how cheezy is that! :heh:

chad is about 10x more useful in any fight than ishida. he at least shuts up and does what he is told. how many times are we gonna hear "by my quincy pride" or variations of that phrase? it's sad to think that we all know ishida is not gonna be defeated at the hands of yoshi. and shoot, now that Kariya has the ULTIMATE POWER I hope he can fight a little better and not sit back absorb some spirit particles and run away again. We've seen what he is capable of and if he retained that same power he had BEFORE he even got to soul society, SS would have no chance of stopping him. but since arriving in this land of "unlimited power" for the bounto, he's done nothing but suck. but, back to ishida and yoshi; am I mistaken when I say that bounto absorb spirit particles and heal themselves? ishida shoots spirit particles with his "battle accessory" (aka a piece of garbage that allows a bad character to have bad power) couldn't yoshi just absorb the blast and then thank him for the nice jolt of power? what good is a quincy gonna be in a fight like that? simple, he's not. he's the LAST quincy for a reason; they suck.
without going into spoilers, i can understand why he has so much pride in his quincy heritage.
Especially considering that my own familly tree is somewhat withered...
Pride is a good thing to have.

I feel sorry for him. Hope he'll get better in the future. I mean he always misses with his power and then get beaten. Sad.

First that damned Quincy boy ~_~

Secondly, the other half of the epi was kariya gaining Ultimate Power ~_~ I sware he'll have 10 more of those during the next few epis.
I feel like I'm rewatching DBZ all over again:upset:

the fight sequence with yoshi.ishy was by far the best in this arc, w/o a doubt. the quality and fluidicity(no, thats not a word), was amazingggggggggggg. ive looked it over a few times and im still impressed.
and yes, yoshi swords look alot like zenbonsakura when byakuya compresses the petals into pink energy blades.

It's quite a shame. The one and only instrumental I like in this entire series just so happens to be one of the only songs not released on an OST. Well hopefully it'll get released on a bleach OST someday.
Anyways, I kind of liked this episode. But admittedly it's due largely in part over the fact that the instrumental version of #1 was played during the IchigoxKariya battle. I also like the golden episode at the end. I thought it was pretty funny.
Other than that, I haven't got much else to say. I would've liked Ichida's opponent to have been taken out in around 15 minutes through the episode, but alas, it seems like she's got another 1 episode at least to live. =(
She honestly always seemed to me as the weekest of all the bounto. Which is why I was kind of hoping to see her get beaten pretty quickly and pretty badly whether it be by a shinagami's hand or by Ichida.
Oh well.
I'm at a let down since the Joukaishou is not what I had expected to.
It sparks into tiny lights my assumption that Kariya intended to fathom the explosion of Ishida's Quincy accesory to blow Seireitei.
However, it may hint at a likely scenario for Kariya's downfall.
The Joukaishou contains the energy that after exploded free the souls that were to become the Bount.
Indeed, taken Kariya's threat to every word, he's become now a walking fussion reactor. But, at the same time opens the possibility that he has gained a chronic fatality unto himself, that is he understimates the stability of said energy.
There's a good reason why Rantao and the others sealed that crest. Maybe it was unstable and not safe to handle.
If it could happen to be true, then a viable way to destroy Kariya into particle would be that he overloads his body with spirit particles and have his body saturated to the breaking point; it can only happen if he's too worked up with extensive amount of time battling.
However, the only downside is should he gets overloaded and explodes, then everything and everyone would be blasted into oblivion as well.
I just find Kariya's cockiness and full of himself too disgusting and unsavory. I think it's about time that he gets pawned.
I really loved most the tense and suspense factor putting strain on Ishida. He's very well cornered with a unstable item. He might learn about that old hag Bount's weakness through observing and trail-and-error.
I think there's a hint when the female Bount expresses her dislike and uneasiness to have herself fused with the Doll; maybe a clue for Ishida.
Particularly, the fusion aspects never covers completely both sides of her body. The left side for defense and the right side for attack, that what I observed.

Just merely imagine Ichigo or Chad giving piggyback ride to a crippled Mayuri, that's a mischievous thought that I won't let my mind to picture.:heh: :eyespin:

Just my opinion but this episode was a load of crap
I just wish Chad could find a way to control his energy blasts. His attacks are just big fireballs of energy being shot in one direction. He should find away to fire the attack and then control where its going, or learn ways to stop it and have it explode into multiple pieces. God, the Bleach crew is so completely lacking in originality.
And don't even get my started on Ichigo. Hollow Ichigo shows him a bad ass move swinging Zangetsu around with the hilt wrap and all he does with it is blow up a cross. I wish he could extend the chain at the bottom of Tensa Zangetsu like he can with the hilt wrap in shikai Zangetsu, maybe he could use it wrap up an enemy or something. No creativity!

I liked the action in this episode and Yoshi's powers are actually cooler than I thought. She seems to have mastered her weapons well, unlike Ishida. The last part where he takes her by surprise on her blind/unshielded side is quite interesting though.

And you need to get a clue and learn to give criticism(sp?) where it's deserved. We dont expect anything to be perfect(stopped doing that long ago), we just comment on the episode and the fact that there are faults that are spotted is perfectly normal, and where else to talk about them if not in the Bleach discussion thread? Indeed, get a life and stop whining about other people whining on a message board. It certainly does not look more productive than discussing episode's ups/downs and content.

That was a pretty bad episode. The dragging of the Ishida fight, Kariya gaining ultimate power (wtf) were redundant. It seemed like a Naruto filler episode where the main characters lost most of their brain cells. The op, ed and Shinigami Cup rocked though. I love Mayuri's voice, so cool.

Sure, there is nothing wrong with a little pride. However Ishida's "quincy pride" is what let the bounto into soul society in the first place. Well, that and him being very easy to manipulate because of said pride.

Ishida doesn't really have any powers in this arc, only an "unstable accessory" If yoshi's doll wasn't so annoying she'd take over Koga as my favorite bounto, even though his doll is way more annoying. She definately has a neat power tho.

I don't remember what ep it was, but I'm pretty sure kariya stated something along the lines of not caring about anything but destroying sereitei, even if it means his own life. All the bounto were prepared to go down with him as well, (if i am remembering this correctly) although i think kariya has a little more of a hidden agenda than just "blowing up sereitei"

I'm actually learning to pay more attention to detail because of all of the bitching about animation errors early in the Bound arc. Good can come from the harshest of criticism, and everyone's opinions should be accepted:)

Good ep considering its filler, what i dont get though is why Ichigo and Chad just stood there and let Kariya absorb the crest, its like, attack.

The Ishida x Yoshi fight was pretty good, but it kind of got anti climactic when it suddenly switched to Ichicgo x Kariya. I'm still kind of hoping that the final show down will be between Ishida and Kariya because Ishida at least has a personal reason for fighting him.
not to mention the fact their overusing ichi's bankai/tenshou to death and with little result.

what happend to that err lady that was the head of the research of the bountos?? Ran'Tao is probably going to make her appearance again soon, in order to tell us how to stop the crest from destroying SS. After all, she created it so she probably knows how to stop it.
and do that weird big thingy hold that much power?It seems strange that it would be THAT powerful, but Ran'Tao will be able to tell us for sure if Kariya wasn't lying.
.. and also i want bleach to make the anime back to the original story.... these bounto stuff r so boring >.< and annoying..Most of us agree with you. This story line does seem poor after the excitement of the Soul Society arc.

I imagine that Ran'Tao will tell us the truth about the crest sometime in the next few episodes. She made it, so she can tell us.
I for one enjoyed this episode. Ishida got some good scenes, even though he has little power.

All he done was SAY that the seal was what he's been looking for and told a slightly convincing story, then chant something in german. He might just be doing that for... I have no idea why.Or I just need sleep. Good night, all.
What he was chanting (wich has now been translated in V2 of the fansub instead of "GERMAN 1" and "GERMAN 2") is that he has become one/ merged/ united with the crest.. he says there's souls in there that were to become Bounto and judging from the flashback where he said the crest was the base of their creation ( with the tank filled with fluid on top) so I'm thinking it's got a whole lot of power stored in there and it's no bluff.
So basically he and the crest are now linked.. and therefore he can draw power from it and the souls stored in it wich are offcourse a powersource for them.. or he could blow it up or whatever.. the crest was also "calling out " when he entered the room since Kariya'screst embedded onto his body glowed through his clothes..
so I think this ain;t no bluff on his part..
but still.. there's got to be a scene where Rantao or Ishida ( based on the need for Quincypower to enter Seireitei) does something to the base and destroys or frees the souls in there or something like that, leaving kariya baffled and beaten..
ah well.. looking forward to the next episode :D

If it was Byakuya again...he wouldn't of let it happened more than likely...

Ishida's fight was pretty good IMO and it doesn't look like they half assed it either.
The Shinigami Cup was literally golden...even if we didn't get to actually see anything, the dialogue was fuckin hilarious!

Everybody knows there's always time in mid-combat to have a chat or make some deep meaningfull conversation.. the reason for that I think is: when there's finally a winner.. the loser isn't in a state where he can have such a conversation.. ^_^

The first half had pretty good animation, especially during the Ishida VS Yoshi fight. Second half was pure cliche. Ichigo's bankai was useless. Chad was semi-useless. Kariya will lose due to the fatal flaw that villains must enjoy the whining of their victims before destroying them.
Preview and Shinigami Cup Itaiii~~~~~~ were the highlights. ^^

I was under the impression that Ishida was meant to have gained some power. He said he wanted to battle Kariya but hes barely able to cope with Yoshi.
So that Narrows down our potential end sequence fighters against Kariya to:
Ichigo - You know its coming. ^_^
Byakuya - Probably going to get a bit of a whooping and then be saved by ichigo. (sound familiar?)
Zaraki - Man I would love another Zaraki fight in this arc.
Sasuke - Well he must be doing something while naruto is in filler mode. :)
