United States: Censored... trust me you don't wanna hear what I have to say about it and I live here lol....
Canada: When I think Canada... I think about the time I went to visit and all I heard were people saying ABOOT instead of ABOUT. But I wouldn't mind moving there... after having watched the documentary "Bowling for Columbine" I actually wanted to move there... Another thing I think of when I think Canada is... funny game shows... and that stuff is not censored like it is in the states.
Mexico: I think of parties and people getting drunk and if you're at the wrong place at the wrong time... getting shot...
France: I heard it was dirty there...
Austrailia: Was told that they hate Americans especially... or tourists, or anyone that's not Austrailian...
Hong Kong: OMG went there one summer (bad idea) HOT HOT HOT! and Humid and kinda dirty... I'm asian and woah... I was even a little freaked out seeing all those asians all in one place...
Japan: I dream of visiting Japan one day... when I think Japan... I think about their technology... wooo the gaming industry (heard the arcades were awesome) and OMG can we say SANRIO LAND? and so many cute things I can buy there... >.<

Hmmmmmmmmmm can't think of any others for now... :p

Yes, that is completely true. It is very common for Finns to call Swedes gay, but I don't think most people really mean it, there are people who actually believe that though. Usually only ignorant kids have that opinion, so I suggest you just ignore them. On the other hand, most Finns dislike Russians too...oh boy we are so hostile. :heh:

Anyway, here comes my list:
Germany: Lederhosen and sausages

Russia: Lots of cheap infantry and big tanks (damn Red Alert). It's a bit true though. It's amazing that Russia never conquered Finland. Their army must have been like 50 times larger. Also cheap booze and tobacco are closely tied with Russia.

USA: Shows with people with problems (Ricki Lake, Jerry(?) Springer, All those dating shows (too many to count)), modern technology and everything is big, yet there are a lot of poor people aswell. Oh, almost forgot, a silly president.

China: Kung Fu, a huge population and rice

Japan: Anime, generally better visual entertainment than what comes from many other countries. Try for example comparing Japanese horror movies (scary stuff) to American teenage knife murderer films (sooo many, soo silly, soo cliche) or anime to cartoons.

Italy: Pizza, Mario accent

France: Weak military performance. Only during Napoleon's campaign France kicked the crap out of other countries. During WW2 the Germans got past the great French defense line very easily. The French also love their language.

England: The accent ;), the tea and all those things that probably don't even exist anymore. For example red double deckers and those pointy and totally useless police helmets.

Scotland: Kilts, wide open grassy areas, sheep

I think that's enough for now. :)

ok, to add to my list of some more sterotypes america has of:

Just Africa in general: very poor, everyone is starving, 3rd world countries everywhere, theres always at least one country going through a rebelion or revolution at any given time, gurrila terrorists taking american and european tourists hostage and demanding money from thier families or they kill them. Basically, the whole place is one huge crap hole.

Cuba: taxi drivers driving old 1950 cars, baseball, people risking thier lives to sail to america on cardboard boats

China: overpopulated, everyone is on bikes, eats dogs (although i think thats mostly only korea, but americans cant tell/dont care to make a difference), mostly a male population because of that one child only rule. communisim, (although now a days it doesnt really look like a communist)On average the whole country is poor, except for hong kong.

India: basically like china. Everyone worships a elephent with 10 arms. all the women must dress up in colorful head scarfs and were a dot in the middle of there head, but we dont understand why. Arranged marriges where the wife's family must pay the grooms famliy tens' of thousands of dollars. everyone stinks too.

well, i cant list all the countries, but if you want to hear the amercain sterotype of a particular country (like your own)
i havent already posted, just ask me.

Hmm..from what I think on a "general American" point of view that p3psi hasnt covered yet (and he covered a lot)

USA: Capitalism (Microsoft..), generic food, the Bush man - pointless warring..
Singapore: Clean, mixing Korean slang with english
Japan: High-tech phones, dislikes many americans (though most americans can only think of Pearl Harbor, and Hiroshima never seems to come to mind..)

Greece: "Huh? Yeah I was in alpha mu theta." Improper pronunciation of the greek alphabet.. (it's veta, not beta, V-eta!!) had to especially highlight Greece since I've lived there..

France: Described perfectly by p3psi, almost exact american viewpoint
Britain: we mostly speak their language...or is it they speak Our language.. grey or gray?
Canada: "Blame Canada!" - from south park.
Sweden: Strangely rich cold place with hot blondes...
Russia: interesting dance, tall furry hats, both Hitler and Napolean failed to win against the run-away tactic.
Brazil: Soccer, ("football? oh yeah the dallas cowboys play the raiders on monday night..")
Isreal: Violent military.. all 18yr old males have to go into military service for a bit
N. Korea: "Evil"- G.W. Bush, most dangerous country to USA.

Japan: Anime, generally better visual entertainment than what comes from many other countries. Try for example comparing Japanese horror movies (scary stuff) to American teenage knife murderer films (sooo many, soo silly, soo cliche) or anime to cartoons.

Are you sure? I don't like scary moves to much so I havnt seen alot but one that can easily be compared are,

The Ring = Scary cant watch it alone.
Ringu = Funny for 30 min, then just boring. (ok, came up with the idea, but still poorly done.)

Japan - Godzilla chasing screaming business men, anime, and cute girls.

Britain - Punk rock

Canada - Vancouver, a great place to visit for underage drinking and french canadian girls, tarance and phillip.

Italy - Flash Squirrel dont worry I dont think of spegetti or pizza for italy. I think of Gladiators, romance, and damn suave men that can steal american women, and Michelangelo (no not the pizza eating ninja turtle ;) )

And as for all you usa haters out there, yeah I hate our government too (ok i hate yours also, but mine more) but I wonder if there is also a certain amount of jelousy tainting your views. I mean where else in the world do people have it this easy? Here even if your poor, as long as your halfway smart you can go to a technical school for 2 years (on the governments money if you need to) and come out making $40,000 to $60,000 a year ($100k-200k if your more than halfway smart) and retire in your 40's if you take the time to learn anything about investments, and go to 90% of the other countries in the world (that your aloud in) and steal their hotest women with your average looks because they want to move to america with you. Ok, we are arogent so I can't blame you for hating us. :D

Hum,

well when it's really so easy to make money in the USA like you say,
then tell me why the hell America has so many inhabitans who live under the poverty line.
I mean after all I heard you have to work real hard in America, I heard that many people have to work in several jobs because they don't get enough money,
isn't that true?

Yes it is true. The reason so many Americans are poor is because they are stupid or made stupid mistakes when they were young. I cant tell you how many of my friends had children (not planed) in there teens. Once you have a kid or a wife before your ready it's pretty much impossible to go for your education or save any money.

The other stupid thing they do is live way beyond their means. I'll admit that I probably live in one of the richer areas of the country (home of Microsoft and other hightech jobs that come with it) but one of the common traits I see in poor people around here is that they spend way more money than they have and are so far into debt that they are trapped. But if your smart like say my parents, you dont ever spend money you dont have. My dad is a retired highschool math teacher, my mom was a homemaker who did some cleaning jobs on the side. They have a nice 2 story house in the woods worth over $400k, two nice cars (not luxury), a nice (but again not luxury) fishing boat, and money to golf and do things they like because they are good at budgeting and saving.

To many people see the things that their neighbor has and feel they need to have the same thing. The reason that the rest of the world is so damn dependant on America is because we don't save any of our money. As soon as we get a little money in the bank account we deside that we must be the only one in our neighborhood who doesnt have a 50" HDTV so we better go get one. Or we think, man I've been driving the same car for 4 years I need a new one! Oh look O% financing for one year on a new one! And thus they have no money anymore and have to work two jobs. If American's started being responsible and started saving their money the world economy would probably colaps because we spend way more money on imports than we export (which is why we're slowly being taken over by foriegn investors) and foriegn companies depend on that consumer mentality so many here have.

So when I say it's easy to make money in America im not saying we're all a bunch of millionaire playboys eating caviar and playing tennis at the country club. What I'm saying that if your smart, you make good decisions, you pretty much can live comfortably here. If you can live a simple life and are ok with a toyota instead of a lexus, ok with a nice $400 tv that last 10 years instead of the 50" plasma screen, then you can own everything you have and have money to live on rather than a mountain of debt (and two jobs).

EDIT: Why is my sig showing up twice? Thats weird. Sorry this post is so long... I deleted a lot of it before I posted because it was getting rediculous.

Singapore: Clean, mixing Korean slang with english
Isreal: Violent military.. all 18yr old males have to go into military service for a bit.

WRONG. singaporeans don't mix korean slang with english. and singaporean males also have to go to military training when they're 18. (aarrgghh 2 years more i'll have to go...2 years of my life without anime :()

Actually, from my experience with Singaporeans in the game Shattered Galaxy, many of the Singaporeans did indeed use Korean slang in the place of some English words. It wasn't like they got words confused or anything, they just chose to add stuff like 'lah' and 'leh', and 'liaoz' (sp) etc. in their english sentences. And remember, this isn't a thread on what the countries actually do, this is a thread on what people from certain countries believe the other countries do.

Edit: Also note that I dont actually know any korean slang..thats just how the shattered galaxy community defined the slang.. it might be Chinese or Malay. Also, this may be due to the part that Koreans game a lot as well..so their slang ended up mixed with the rest of the gaming world.

Flash: Must be pretty annoying ;), USA doesn't even draft anymore unless under dire situations (last time was Vietnam War..I think..), 18 year old males here are free to do what we want, but we have to send in information to the government just in case they need a draft.

Sooner or later every country in the world suffers from the same problems as any other one and to be frank, the most crucial problems would be Ignorance and Bias.
If you want some examples on that matter, just read some posts in this thread. And while some thoughts of individuals might be quite entertaining, it is quite frightening that some of these thoughts are actually the settled conviction of large groups in a country or a certain country itself.
Well, don't let me spoil the fun folks, that's just something i had to remark, feel free to disagree cause you have the right to do so :)

You can say that again. Having been around the world a couple of times I noticed that people are the same no matter time or place. Heck, I wouldn't know where people on this board are posting from unless they told me.

Some cultures happen to find a better way of doing things so they get famous for it: USA with its governmental and economic system, Japanese with their anime, Swedish with their sexy women marketing system. ^_^

I think this thread shows how little people know about the many countries out there, so sweeping generalizations and stereotypes take the place of going out and learning something.

And to play the game again, look what I think when someone says:

Finland: American Football, Tango Dancing, Monty Python
Uzbekistan: Bad traffic, guys wearing dusty dark blue clothes and fur hats
Burma: Internet is illegal (not sure if it's true anymore)
Malta: St. Paul, Knights Templar, Wildcat BBS, vacationers

Why is everyone putting down the US? No one's defending them so I am here to do it then!... I am proud to be an American! I am also french because I used to live there but I think of myself more American than anything else... Everybody is putting down the US but I honestly think it's jealousy or the fact that we are the best of the best in the world. I mean if you think way back then when England ruled Europe because they had the most powerful naval military force, everyone hated them. Fast forward to now and it's the US who is the one and only true superpower nation in the world. It's like the LA Lakers in the NBA. They are so powerful and I really didn't hate them back then we they stunk but ever since they won their 2nd NBA championship, few people besides the bandwagonners like them...

I see how non-US people see us as being intrusive and arrogant but the plain matter of fact is we are main policing force in this nation because we have the power to do so and it doesn't bode too well with others. Whether for the right or wrong causes, I don't know. I have an opinion on each cases but it may be different from yours. What I do know is that I know I as well as my family owe my life to Americans (Vietnam War). The thing I don't get is everybody sees all the negatives but they don't see all the positives that we've done. Who protects South Korea and Taiwan from being overrun? Which country is always first in line to donate food and medical supplies to needy countries even if they are our enemies (see North Korea)? Who started the UN because they wanted to world be more able to handle themselves without US aid (this didn't work out at all because everyone has a say in something but when it comes to action, no one wants to step up...)? Who sacrificed an untold amount of lives because a bunch of neighboring countries couldn't get along with each other (see WWI and WWII). The US would have been very glad to stay away from world strife and take care of themselves. But that would just lead to WWIII so we gotta take care of everyone else. Is that arrogant?... hmmm yeah i guess so. to you maybe.

anyway back to the topic:

US: The greatest nation in the world. we rule the world with a iron fist.. or gun... warplane, manned rockets and missiles, a few Abraham tanks and if all else fails... NUKE 'EM!!!! and since we got more lawyers than anything else, we'll bullshit our way into convincing everyone it was the right thing to do... "Trust us.. they had it coming..."

France: Great cheese. Wine is considered one of the best but lots of other nations are catching up in terms of quality. Considered the weakest power nation in the world mainly because they got overrun twice by Germany. They should be worshipping the US for saving your fairy bums twice already.. Then again... without their naval help in the Indepence War, we might still be under the rule of the Queen of England. So they saved us once and we saved them twice. They still owe us. :)
and Zinedane Zidane is the greatest soccer player of all time...

Germany: makes GREAT cars! I hear Octoberfest is awesome in germany. Rough language though. Is it even possible for a german girl to talk sexily in German???

UK: Love the accent. Would like to visit them sometimes and see a Premiership soccer (football in their country) match.

China: They are our enemy because they are communist. We will obliterate them off the face of this planet as soon as we can figure out a way of doing it without angering everyone else... but then again, who is going to make all the cheap products we are currently using?... hmmm maybe we should just slowly convince them that capitalism is the way to go..

Canada: inferior versions of Americans. They are useless to us besides the production of NHL hockey players.

Japan: anime, sushi, ninjas, and video games... domo arigato. they got some of the weirdest fetishes and some anime/movies are pretty gruesome and sick... makes you think what the hell they were smoking when they thought up of this ish... the mad Buddha maybe?...

Australia: Lovely country (recently visited it 2 months ago). very friendly people. sydney is the cleanest city in the world! Some of the best and freshest food you'll ever have. Say 'mate' and end their sentences 'ey' alot...

Brazil: GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!!! soccer rules this nation I believe... known for their hospitality and dancing prowess...

South Korea: wants us out of their country but depends on us to protect their borders from the huge threat that North Korea poses. I say we leave them to their own devices... I am paying tax to send fellow Americans to protect YOUR border you bunches of ungrateful asian baboons!!! other than that, I love Korean food... suppose to be a powerful Go nation according to Hikaru No Go.

Russia: considered a powerful nation but they suffer from waaay too much corruption within their own government. if they gather their act, they are capable of going mano-mano against the US. very cold so everyone including kids drink vodka to stay warm...

Iraq: soon-to-be US colony. until we siphon out all their oil then we will pack up and leave behind nothing but death, destruction, and several hundreds of McDonalds stores...

Germany: German is actually quite a beautiful language when you aren't watching a WWII movie..

UK: Heh, I love it how all Americans (myself included) say that its Them that have the accent (An English Accent at that!)

China: Hmm..actually it's pretty obvious that they are the one country we Really dont want to mess with..considering even G.W. Bush didn't make the mistake by adding them to the "axis of evil" even though they are communist. Oh...and I hate capitalism..

Whoever is cracking on the USA as having no culture is cracking on their own culture as well. The US is a FREE land where you are able to live HOWEVER you want to, isn't that culture enough?

All stereotypes of the cultures on TV are just the EXTREMES of that culture, so like not everyone has THAT BAD of an accent, but everyone STILL has that accent. I live in Virginia USA and so I am suck between the accents, I use some southern american slang but don't have that "southern" accent, but I don't have that Northern accent either.

Most ppl get offended when you say "all british have an accent", well of course they do, to YOU. To themselves they seem to talk normal. This is pretty much true for the world, I probably would seem to have an "American" accent if I went anywhere in the world, but ya know what? I would only be PROUD to have an "American accent" cuz I am proud to be an amercian, and PROUND to have the FREEDOM to vote (yes you ppl cracking on amercian voting system, EVERYONE should have the right for their opinion, hience this topic ;)!!!). I'm not sure why most of the other countries teach their children to hate amercia, but all I have seen us do is give LOTS of money away and ppl spit in our faces.....thanx world :)!!!

As for cultures, I try not to judge and base ppl on culture becuase that is based on where you are raised and how you live yourself (which is your freedom) so I don't associate "egg rolls with chinese ppl" it look at egg rolls as food and chinese ppl as ppl who are from china (or their parents were etc.)

Anyways, that is all I got :)

Haha youre pretty funny. :) I think the reason why so many ppl dont like (not hate, just dont like) the US is because americans seem to dislike other ppl. Well some guy who I believe was named Jesus once said: "treat ppl how you wanna be treated, or else!" or something like that. Americans seem love to roll in with their tanks and carriers to bomb away governments, ppl or entire countries etc. Im sure the US gives out lots of money but they also hand out lots of weapons too. The way I see it is that the US is disliked by many because they themselfs dislike many. Dont get me wrong, I really like the US, or rather I dont dislike americans as a whole. Just dont like the foreign politics of the USA.

I had this friend who had been in USA to study for a year and I asked him if there really were many hot girls whom we always see on TV and the response I got was that there were many many fat ppl and not at all as what we see on TV. :)

:) I don't know anything about Finnish culture except what I saw on TV a while ago. A documentary showed that Finland culture is rather conservative about PDAs but surprisingly tango dancing is popular. Also, Fins like to play American Football more than other European countries... for unknown reasons.

And then Monty Python did a song called "Finland". It's a catchy tune, really. :D

"Finland , Finland, Finland. The country where I'd most like to be..."

It shows what ridiculous things you remember about countries that don't have enough stereotypes.

More countries:

India: Entirely different world.
Kuwait: Oil. Rich Arabians.
Norway: Oil. Rich Caucasians.
USA: Hollywood. (Turn off your TV and don't watch movies.) Anime only.

The Americans can be a bit bossy, but they have a good heart compared to other empires of the present and the past: China, USSR, Romans, Babylonians, etc.
The current administration is looking to change the Middle East with the dream that it can be like Europe... whiny but finally peaceful for the first time ever, and a good trading partner. I'm glad things are getting shaken up over there.

ah but [Titan], it's okay to bash Americans for saying they are arrogant even though not one American gave those statements until I did. But prior to that I read plenty of comments about how Americans are and most of them weren't flattering to say the least.

What I've generally gotten is that non-Americans think that we (Americans) are too arrogant and our attitude is wrong. As if we didn't care about world opinion. well i can tell u we do pay attention and we do care but that doesn't mean we have to listen to you. who are to tell us what to do when you hardly do anything about it yourself? other nations say this and that but when it comes down to it, it always ends up being the US that financially supports the cause and does all the heavy lifting. It has been like that for how many years already??? Who do u think has been financially supporting the UN @ the beginning when ALL of you were recovering from the mess you all caused (WW2)? and you talk about guns and violence but it's those same guns that's protecting Taiwan and South Korea. it helped Israel from getting decimated by 3 neighboring countries were still wish Israel didn't exist... weapons aren't bad. they don't get up by themselves and start shooting people for no reason... it's the people who use it for the wrong reasons that are bad. I won't say anything bad about a person who's defending someone with a weapon and i won't shed one tear for someone who was shot and killed if he was let's say raping someone...

and no, our attitude and arrogance won't cause the end of the world. if we didn't care so much that we'd financially spend our resources and sacrifice our friends/relatives in order to protect you all from each other, then that might cause the end of the world... thus it is our attitude and arrogance that will keep this world from destruction... did that make sense? it shouldn't because it's a direct opposite answer to your statement which also made no sense. your perception of our attitude and arrogance shows how ignorant you can be about Americans. Americans are a very friendly type. we are the most accomodating and we accept everyone regardless of type, race, class or religion.. you can be as dark or as light, as rich or as poor, Buddhist or Catholic or whatever. When it comes to pure diversity, NO NATION can compare to the US. So what if we have a lot of violence inside our country compared to many nations. That stuff is blown out of proportion... bad news makes good news remember?... like i said, we have a diverse culture and you can't expect everything to be honky dory all the time. what u and the rest of the world don't see is that we are a diverse population that's getting along very well.

and btw, all those comments i made early were in jest... i am the last person to want to blow up everyone i don't like. but i am a realist too. if we could all get along and resolve all our problems peacefully then that would be great. but unfortunately we don't live in shangri-la. violence is in our nature. sometimes we can resolve it peacefully. other times, we have to resolve it with violence. i don't like it but then again, there are many things i don't like in this world... like mosquitos and cockroaches... yuack.

dragonz20: The image I get on the US from the media is pretty much the same as the part I quoted. Of course, this says more about the American government than it's citizens.

Also, it's not that I'm not gratefull that the Americans "liberated" us Europeans, but...
translated this quickly, so beware of crappy english
The US got involved in WW2 after it was already running for over 2 years. There was no case of spontaneous involvement. On the day that Pearl Harbor was hit (7 Dec 1941), the American interests came in to play, but by then, the end was already in sight for Hitler. Then English delivered a massive blow around Tobroek, the battle for England was already in a decisive stage and the Russians stopped the eastern push near Moscow. That the Americans, with their "contribution" (not meant sarcastic, but it's hard to translate) of 220.000 militairy victims, shortened the war remains a fact. But the fact that the Russians lost almost 20 million people (of which more than 6 million were civilians), seems to be forgotten...
And the reasons America supported other countries during their wars (I learned this in school)

Iraq: Oil
Vietnam: The russians were supporting the other party
Israel: Good buddies with the americans since they buy lots of weapons

so I guess that kind of explains my why I have a negative vision on the US :)

sure there are plenty of Americans which are NOT arrogant, but I hardly get to see those on the news and in the newspaper.

sorry but iam prowling in here because work is a quite slow right now... let's see...

if Americans went to war for oil then France and Germany refused to goto war because of money (definitely France but it might have been Russia).. Each had invested roughly $2-4 billion US dollars to Saddam Hussein in resources that included food, weapons, and currency. This was a loan until the UN removed the sanctions.. So you see it's all perspectives. To think France and this other country refused to liberate Iraq from its ruthless (and he was definitely ruthless) dictator over $2-4 billion... that's nice...

I agree with Vietnam and as of now. I can't say that Vietnam would have been better off if the US had won the war. But it would have been nice and my family wouldn't have fled the country if that had happened...

Israel.. as far as I am concerned, we didn't only just give them weapons, we gave them money so they could fight their war. At the beginning, they didn't pay us. We financed this war basically. So is it right for us to finance a war?.. hmmm well i am not one person to watch a nation get massacred by its neighbors at least...

And I don't agree with you about the WW2. England had suffered severly prior to the Americans entering the war. War history actually claims that if Hitler hadn't given up so fast on taking England instead of attacking Russia, they would have owned Europe outright. In any case, 220,000 victims is a lot of war victims. taking those french beaches was VERY costly. That was basically a suicide run for most of those boys... Do not belittle that act because England was too weak and totally lacked manpower to attack from the west. Without US help, there would have been NO WAY for England and the allies could have mustered enough forces to retake Europe. Don't kid yourself on that point... you were saved by Americans... plain and simple. the fact that we had to do it from all the way across the other side of the globe where we were safely away from all the fighting... then we had to financially help every country (especially Germany) recuperate from these losses to prevent this from happening... (yes it's all your fault... ww2 happened because every other european nation raped Germany for ww1. Germany was in chaos with no jobs, massive numbers of poverty and thus allowing a madman like Hitler to rise in power).

But yes, you're right... there is an outright difference between the American policies, politics and Americans. but American policies is not even close to being as evil as you all paint it out to be...

anyway:

India - hot exotic Indian women who can dance very in very seductive ways... Kama Sutra anybody... indian cuisine is pretty damn good once u get used to it.

Spain - traditional bull running festival i'd like to attend. spanish dancing...

North Korea - country controlled by a despotic madman. we should nuke this area. and after we're done... nuke it again... and while we're at it, we can nuke Cuba as well. ahhh what the hell just nuke everyone!.. actually i just like pushing buttons...

OI! U not been in history class or something?
First Finland was owned by Swedish then the Russians CONQUERED it...
Then Lenin gave Finland independence and after that Stalin started the Winter War against Finland and won, but for some reason didn't make Finland a part of Russia again...

no Vodka (exept Finlandia Vodka), but Koskenkorva and Pontikka :D

Well, no. Russia conquered Finland from Sweden. Actually, there was no Finland back then and that was waay back in time. During WW2 you could say that Finland lost the war, but we only lost some land. The original idea was to swallow the entire country quickly and easily, instead Finnish forces dug themselves deep into Soviet territory. However, they had to do a quick retreat once the German campaign in the east was defeated.

u looked at the wrong one, i swear :D

i don't like the french language ... it sounds somehow gay to me :o
about the mil force ... well it depends on the size of the country too :o
i guess u didn't study the ww2 background that much ...

I'm don't know what you mean right now. My history teacher said the French built a huge line of bunkers and defensive positions near the German border, but the Germans came trough it like a hot knife trough butter. Anyway, it's kinda stupid to rate countries by their success in wars.

The current administration is looking to change the Middle East with the dream that it can be like Europe... whiny but finally peaceful for the first time ever, and a good trading partner. I'm glad things are getting shaken up over there.

Well ofcourse youre glad that things are shaken up a little because youre not around when the bombs start falling and your house along with the little possessions you have blow to pieces. :dots:

Oh and thats why youre closing your eyes before the massacres of the arabs who were living and had been living in the place now called Israel for thousands of years? Well Israel was indeed the Jews homeland...................3000 years ago. Hmm... Only 3000 years ago. And now the righteous americans give Israelis weapons so that they can get back what was theirs..............3000 years ago. And just push the native ppl out of there because the Jews owned the land 3000 years ago. Well the palestines were massacred and still is to some extent though thats because of the fucking suicide attacks. But that doesnt count does it?

You know, Denmark, Norway, Finland "belonged" to Sweden only 300 years ago. Compared to 3000 thats like a tear in an ocean right? Maybe Sweden should drive out the Norwegian, Finnish and Danish ppl out of there, I mean, they _were_ part of Sweden only a couple centuries years ago.

Anyways, the impression I get when I think of americans is still fat people, no culture, stupid politics.

Heh, I think USA just likes to sell weapons to people ;). It wasn't too long ago when Iraq was our "ally" and Iran was our enemy, and we sold Iraq a whole bunch of weapons. However, these days the Iraqi's were using mostly russian weapons if I remember correctly.

As for culture, dont forget all the greasy fast food chains that became widespread all over the world! Oh and supermarkets like Wal-Mart as well! And Microsoft! There is American culture..its just a very..capitalist American culture...

This is what I think of USA
The American government is greedy.
-They're rednecks.
-Most people are fat. (Oh, this is one is statistically true, yeah, that goes for Canada too)
-Americans are dumber that the Canadians, to the extent that most of them don't even know that Canadians have a Prime Minister, not a President.

Britain - Gays
Australia - kanggaroo
Ireland - drunkyards, poor
Japan - a god sent country, if you know what i mean
Brazil - volleyball
Russia - communism

You quoted me wrong buddy. There is no doubt that America should have helped out earlier on in the war. But what I was saying is that it was the allies who won the first world war that invariable caused the 2nd world war by demanding a huge amount of reparations for the first one. As I recall from my studies, the US asked the allies to be more lenient but France, Britain and the others wouldn't listen. The German economy was already fragile from losing the war and the extra load demanded from the allies basically destroyed what was left of it. Massive poverty and loss of pride allowed Hitler to take power. Therefore, one can say that WW2 was a indirect result of WW1... But many agree that had the Allies been a bit more lenient and understanding and worked it out with Germany, then a WW2 would have been easily prevented. Why do you think the US took over Germany after WW2 and basically controlled it for a several years and left a US base there? To make sure you yahoos didn't exact more vengeance on Germany again...

And i never said we knew what was going on.. it's what happened.

So it's all Europe's fault that Hitler got all the power that he did huh...as i recall...some european countries had asked America for help fighting hitler..but america denied the help...and they only really got involved later in the war when hitler had a lot more power then the beginning...why didn't they just help in the beginning and putting out the fire when it was still small? they knew what was going on...

Ever tried to rent a movie with 10 of your friends doing the choosing? you will NEVER pick a movie because they all different taste, want different types of movies, have seen or not seen it. same thing w/ the UN. they can sit there and bullshit all they want but in the end, nothing gets done. Tiny little North Korea threaten the UN by saying if it brought up anything to vote about its nuclear issues then it would be an act of war and what do they do? they listen to North Korea and do NOTHING.. jack squat even though they violated every nuclear regulations and laws it signed. how da hell are u going to have one tiny little nation on the brink of starvation threaten the UN and let them get away with it?!!! they get no respect because they don't enforce anything at all. the UN is overrated...

Alright, this is a very touchy topic! I understand that everyone has their own opinion, but to bash other countries is wrong.. I love where I live (US) and I'm proud to be a Filipino/American. I also respect other counties and they're way of thinking, life, goverment, religion ect..... Sometimes, all of us just need to relax and enjoy life!
All I'm trying to point out is that we just have to respect each other and help one another. War is pointless but sometimes needed, " I know I'm for it and against it".
If the world could just compromise on their differences some maybe things would be different. (Yeah right!!) This topic has way to much sarcasm. Why, would anyone try to insult other countries? If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say it.

I'm glad that DragonZ20 made those comments. He's absoultly right if you think about it! Americans usually mind their business. If you make cutting remarks about us and how we do things, then you deserve whats comming to you. Mostly, everyone that lives here loves something about this country.. but then we might not agree everything? "But thats all good!!" Because you will never find us trying to conquer other states.

1. i never said u were white. i did call u a hick but u can be an asian hick, black hick a blue smurf hick... whatever. i don't give a really freakin care what u are. u are definitely a moron
2. i said most of u probably assumed that i was white. but i never accused anyone specifically of saying it.
3. i never said this was the proper thread so i was off-topic. but the fact that u answered about this without even posting something on-topic.. how does that make u any better? u started out a flame... if u had done it properly or even made sense out of it then maybe i wouldn't have been able to retort. but because you're so stupid u didn't realize i was just jokin' around and actually thought i meant those remarks. well is it my fault u're lacking lots of working brain cells?

so in the end, you're still a freakin moron and u're still wrong. and even if i resort to name-calling, it doesn't change the fact that i am still a hundred times smarter than your fairyass. so again, i'll ask this nicely.. STFU baka!!!

Not only are these stupid Americans pissing the rest of the world off, they're pissing me off as well!!!!

on-topic:

cuba - great cigars.. several decent baseball players hail from this tiny island. they all want to live in the US but who will Castro rule if that happened?

edit:

superchop... apology accepted. and if i have slighted u in anyway i apologize for that. i was only trying to have fun with this thread. in truth i think i goaded people into answering this way. it was a nice experiment. and i will gladly discuss it with u some other time in a more appropriate venue.

Funny, you just said what I said. So I'm the "white" typical ignorant American you so claim not to be? I'm an american nor am i white, I am an american citizen, thats all. I'm am not an american by blood, nor anything else. I was raised in europe and born there. And if you were making you statments in jest, I don't see how this is the proper thread to be doing such. And what you jsut said its totally ignorant, and you show it completely. So you "can" hold your claims and jsutify anything by any means, since you are "better" than me? Wow, for such a "smart" person, you need to resort to name calling and repeat what I said to you back at me? When you grow up, maybe I'll give you a bit of my time, until that time comes, get a life.

I said "futebol" did I not? I jsut mentioned soccer as an alternative word. I'm Portuguese, natuarlized american citizen, currently residing in USA. I prefer using "futebol" thank you very much. And soccer just doesn't have the same style as true futebol, don't ask me why, just something about it.

general consensus of this thread, three points:

Every country other than USA dislikes or hates USA
Japan Rated highly among posters, which isnt surpirsing considering this is an anime forum
USA Stupid president. HEy, we didnt even elect him, AL gore had 1 million more popular votes. (the electoral college basically states that 1 vote form a small state like Rhode island is worth a heck of a lot less than one from Texas or California, even though this isnt how its suppose to be, but it is) And G.W. called in a favor to this brother JEB to F#$K up the recount in Florida.

Originators of Anime and manga...the best stuff on earth ^_^

btw Nenmaster...i wasn't saying you telling flamers to shut up will get threads closed...i was saying that you getting into the middle of a flame war when your not involved will only lead to more flaming...in which it will lead to a never ending flame war...if people are goign at it..it's best to leave them alone...no point in jumping in the middle and have it keep going...it's like adding fuel to the fire...but either way...yes it ended...no we can all move on with our lives.

Thats a pretty narrow view on WW1&2, dragonz20.

Germany was sucked dry by the allies during/after WW1 because everybody was in debt. In alot of cases (such as Britain) countries had borrowed money from the US. Wilson had wanted to enter the war, but the US people were happy with isolationism and wanted no part to do with Europe and it's war. Britain, etc. had to pay back the US once Germany was defeated, and what better way than to set up reperations on your former enemy? Britain didnt want Germany to be weak, however. They wanted the exact opposite : an industrial strong country which the rest of Europe could trade with. France, on the other hand, would have dismembered Germany so that it never existed if they had their way, which you cant blame them for. Germany had destroyed France, coming within miles of Paris, and harmed/killed millions of their citizens. Im sure you would think the same of Japan if they had invaded California, which was part of Japan's original plan.

Hitler could have invaded Britain and ended up controlling Europe earlier in WW2 if he had invaded right after Dunkirk (British army evacuates France to Britain, leaving behind all their weapons, vehicles, etc.). The only standing, armed, army in Britain at the time were all the Canadian troops, most of which hadnt seen front-line combat yet.

Later on the Allies staged a full-fledged invasion of France, and no, it wasn't D-Day. :) Those Canadian troops in Britain volunteered to invade Dieppe. It was a complete and utter failure, as the troops who got to the beach were simply trapped under the German defences. Tanks got stuck in the sand, etc. If that invasion hadn't occured so that the Allies could learn from it just think of what D-Day would have been like ...

With something more related, D-day itself. Five beaches were attacked, 2 American, 2 British and 1 Canadian. The American beaches were completely done by the US, while the British and Canadian beaches were done together. In the end, the British/Canadians captured much more territory than the US did, and they were both doing it seperatly. This alone shows that the allies did have the power to invade France alone, the question is whether or not the Allies could have fought the Germans all the way back to Berlin. Instinct says no, but i dont know much about the strengths, etc. We will never know, since it never happened. :)

Basically, history is full of 'What If' 's. If Hitler hadnt of made some of the horrible mistakes that he did, Britain would have fallen and we might all be speaking German right now, who knows. If the commander of the Japanese Navy that attacked Pearl Harbor hadn't stopped his pilots from resuming the attack (he was afraid the US navy would stumble upon the defensless carriers with there planes gone) Japan probably could have gone on with their original plans and invaded Australia, New Zealand, and California. If that same commander hadn't sent 4/6 of his carriers ahead of his main invasion fleet of 190 ships (compared to the US's 70-90 or so) they could have won the Pacific war.

Now to go back to the original topic ...

I base alot of countries on their past history and government, so the military/political parts stand out. :D

Britain - World empire that was broken in WW1. Lots to be proud of. First concentration camps (not death camps ...)
Russia - Lots of turmoil, patriotic, Stalin, communism, Stalingrad
Japan - Aggressive, committed atrocities, controlled 1/7th of the world, still not taking responsibility for WW2 atrocities, Inhumanely attacked by US
US - 100% Capitalist, patriotic, people prefer isolationism from the world, hypocrits (League of Nations, United Nations), have commited their own massive atrocities (Hiroshima/Nagasaki)
France - patriotic, usually the first line of defence :D
Germany - little guy that keeps getting pushed down, people constantly getting exploited
Poland - quick and aggressive little buggers
Czechoslovakia - red-headed step child of the world (was eaten up by everyone surrounding her while the world turned a blind eye)
Italy - Lovers not Fighters :D
Canada - Still young, "parents" couldnt care less for them, large because like Russia nobody wants to lay claim to the cold north :D, government usually tries to please everybody (not good most of the time)

You have some good points but:

1. Regardless of what Britain intended of doing, the plain of the matter of fact is, they joined the rest of Europe in raping Germany after WW1. And i very well knew that the reparations also included loans from the US. and i don't see anything wrong with the fact that the loser(s) of the war should pay reparations to the winners. But in thr end, you've just proven to me that it was indeed the rest of Europe that "bankrupted" Germany to the point where everyone was desperate enuff to follow a lunatic like Hitler.

2. I know of Dieppe. and yes, you are right, it was an utter failure. The Allies lost more than 1,000 troops and another 2,000 were captured and the Germans lost about 300. it was a lesson learned indeed but it was still in the end a failure... just as big a failure as france trying to stop germany from invading their own homeland. I am not going to take away the courage of those soldiers that sacrificed their lives in that battle though. the germans were full of praises from all the accounts i've read back then on how courageous those canadians and british were.

3. Your recount of the D-Day was accurate. might i add a few more things about it? out of all the beaches that were stormed, omaha beach was the only one that met the heaviest of all the oppositions (some German division that was hailed as one of the best). omaha was eventually taken by the American forces but the price they paid was enormous. All the other beaches were easily taken (compared to Omaha) and all met very light resistance. The Americans also knew about this eventual slaughter and US leaders PICKED to take this beach. This alone speaks volumes about the sacrifice that Americans made (the commanders who made the choices and the soldiers who went).

4. you also failed to include the American airborne divisions (101st and 82nd) that were dropped inside a VERY hostile France. Without their help in wrecking havoc inside enemy lines, Germany might have staged a very good front inside France and repelled the Allies. what is the point of taking a beach if you can't keep it?... and D-Day included all the ships and warplanes that the US brought. You didn't even account the extra transportation that was needed and the extra warplanes that bombed the Germans. D-Day was a TOTAL effort that quite frankly could NEVER have been accomplished without US support...

5. There is no doubt that history can be recounted with full of what ifs... Rumors had that Hitler rejected a very powerful and efficient motor which would have powered their aircrafts early in the war (reason unknown). the motor worked and had he not rejected it, Germany would have OWNED the air and thus the war. But what I am saying is that there is NO WAY the Allies could have taken Europe without US help. Just not enough weapons and manpower...

your points are good but they never did counter what i posted earlier. i generalized a lot of things but we're off-topic anyway so i didn't wanna drag it out earlier. i am still right about my points so no.. i don't think i have a narrow view of the war. u are more than welcome to try again though. :)

ON-topic:

ran out of countries (can't think of right now) so i am doing the regions of the US:

Northeast (NY,NJ,MA, etc..) - We got hot summer days and cold snowy winters. land of the original 13 colonies. lots of history.

South (FL, VA, NC, SC, etc..) - they know how to eat thus good food... know for their hospitality. like to drag out their words and thus they have a crazy "southern" accent. i think they like to eat squirrels too...

Central - bunch of farmlands. no one wants to live there (at least i don't). cheap housing (because no one wants to live there)...

Pacific (CA, TX, etc..) - warm all year around. food is awesome!. real expensive to live there though.

I didnt expect to change your mind (doing so to anyone is usually fruitless, plus pointless) but i still stand by my view. :) There were also British airborne divisions, but like i said the "What If" 's come into play. After D-Day the Canadian troops liberated the Netherlands alone while the other Allied troops went after central Europe. The thing im just trying to get across is that while the Americans did help immensly to the invasion, it could have been carried out by the Allies without them. Whether or not it ended up as a success is another story, but considering how the Eastern front was you cant really predict what would have happened.

Theres another one ... if Germany had won on the Eastern front, or a treaty was signed allowing the majority of the German army to go to the Western front ... :D
