There are certain fansubs that people delete due to the fact that they don't work or cause crashes/fatal error, windows error which causes all windows to close. Some people, like myself, originally assumed the file was corrupted and unfortunately deleted the files.

What bothered me was the amount of "corrupted" files was starting to build up. What I then noticed is the errors refer to "xvid" multiple times. I assume I had the latest codec because I updated about a few weeks ago. Just to be safe, I checked up on the xvid site. Sure enough, a newer codec was available and the "corrupted" anime I didn't delete worked. I got annoyed with myself, knowing I deleted perfectly fine files that I had to get all over again. The problem with xvid is because its still a beta, coms with the older codec trying to play anime running the newer codec vers. would cause multiple problems to windows.

So I advise people: before deleting an anime that seems to be causing you problems, update ALL your codecs to make sure its not your own fault.

My friend went through the same thing as you. He was halfway through Gundam Seed when all of the sudden his files stopped working and he kept redownloading episodes over and finally got pissed and deleted what he had. Finally he told me about it about a week later and I told him about xvid and sent him the codec and it worked. A few days later Gundam Seed was licensed and he could'nt finish it. :heh:

This is more to do with the encoder using features that are still iffy (GMC in the pre 1.0 beta cvs, for example). My XviD 1.0b3 encodes will play fine even with something as old as the 2003-04-18 build of ffdshow.

(I think this thread should be someplace else though...)

Here's a tip that will help people keep their XviD and DivX up to date. Just uninstall them both, then install fddshow-alpha (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=53761&package_id=59355&release_id=161224) instead. It will play all versions of XviD and DivX without needing to be updated. (This includes XviD 1.0 encodes)

This one simple file was released in May, 2003 and has played all versions of DivX and XviD since then. It may need to updated someday, but that day hasn't come yet. It will save you untold amounts of aggravation for this and other reasons.

Here's a link to a site with a codec manager which I find very useful:

Some codecs, such as Xvid, should not be updated using this program but fortunately, you have the option to whether install the codec or not. I use this program to solve a AC3 audio problem encountered with animes such as [Infusion] Macross Zero 3. Reboot is probably required after installation.
