I am very excited.

I would have preferred an anime, but thinking about it, 20th Century Boys could possibly be better as live action. Multiple films is sweet, at least 20th Century Boys will still live on after the manga finishes.

I think an anime series in the future is more possible now.

Also, I'm assuming that each "time period" gets a film. I don't know how they would fit, though....

Another Urasawa title gets a Live Action Movie announcement, but the big question is: When would it actually come out? We've waited for ages for any news of the Monster movie.

These are Japanese films, made in Japan, and they already have an official website. They will be coming out in 2008. We don't even know if the Hollywood Monster movie is actually being produced.

They need to make quite a lot of hours of film in order to cover the material from the manga.

I don't think this will work too well, a big part of the appeal of 20CB is the switching between past and present events, flashbacks in key moments and all that jazz. If they follow rigidly the timeline rather than the sequence of events in the manga, I think the producers of the movies will be shooting themsleves in the foot. For one thing, if the first movie concentrates on the boys' childhood this would either spoil the suspence in the next time periods or skip so many key scenes that they would have a hard time creating a coherent story that would be understandable by people who have not read the manga.

This really is awesome.

However, yeah, like Matrim said, I feel like they could not do it correctly, because the suspense is in the way all the connections between everything is revealed using multiple timelines. I feel like it would be difficult to tell any complete story that fits in one movie if you jumped around enough. That story is just... yeah. Amazing, but I don't know how well it would work in that kind of medium.

What I said wasn't really clear (it happens all the time =D)

What I meant was I wonder if they'll designate a movie to each of the *arcs* in the manga.

Like

Movie 1: Kenji bit before the "event"
Movie 2: The part in the manga when Kanna takes central stage
Movie 3: Around the time where that young brother and sister come in, where the guy with the fake name comes in (if you've read 20th Century Boys, you should know EXACTLY who I mean by this)
