Ya, what the hell? Who already voted if it's not even out...
There is still another 3 hours people...
They handled the Tennis game perfectly, it helped thanks to the animation being on top form. The dark side of the game which had Light & L thinking about the outcome was also nicely done - the music helps there.
It looks like its about time for Misa-misa. Can't wait to see what Rem shall sound like, she's one of my fav' characters from the story. :3

Great episode, Light will say my favorite quote in DN series

this clearly shows how confident and god-like he is
Wow, the anime really is progressing fast.
guiltygearxt, that's indeed is an excellent excerpt you posted. On the subject of this episode,
What can I say? An amazing episode. My favorite that I've seen so far. This is the first time that I've bothered to vote in a poll on this series, since previously I had felt that my knowledge of the manga ruined my ability to jduge the series by itself, but I just gave this one a 10. Also, very impressive work on the part of Toriyama's World getting this out so early.
The tennis scene. Really perfect. Great animation, and I love how they slow-mo'ed on a black BG L & Light as they considered the detective aspects of the match. The voice acting was also very superb, the only point at which it seemed odd was when Light asked L if there was any way to allay his suspicions near the end there. Anyway, the subtle interplay as the two of them played these mind games was completely superb.
Anyway, this is the episode which, at least in my opinion, vanquishes the myth that the series goes downhill following Naomi's death. And of course the next episode, "Crash", looks really exciting, from the scene at the end to the brief scenes you can see during the preview.
I realize I'm not in a position of authority, but all the same, I'd like to advise people that if they want to comment on what's coming up the anime (which, by the way, technically counts as a manga spoiler, since that is the source of the information, and that information has not yet been confirmed in the anime), the "Spoilers & Speculation" topic is really good for that.

I just love this series. The slowmo in the tennis game was awesome. L also has one of my fav DN quotes in this epi
"If I sit any other way my reasoning ability drops by 40%" I love that line.
Series is moving right along, I was alittle disappointed that when L and Ligh both get the phone calls they didnt add them saying "kira" to it but oh well, Im picky :D
Great epi though.
Wow, this episode was realy awsome. The tennis match was done perfectly (i would have never imagined L being that competent in sports :p ) and the talk in the cafe was good as well. I'll tell you one thing - i got shivers running down my spine after hearing that Light's father had a heart attack :)
First episode i rated with 10. Light is in a very interesting situation now... i can't wait to see how this plays out.
Can't wait to see what's going to be on the tapes, but I'm sure it'll be worthwhile :>

hohoho well isnt light getting pinned down by L :p
another exellent ep and the tension given off by both is astonishing ~ feeling the death vibes everywhere :3
the preview seems shocking...how light plans for L to kick the bucket but the problem would be getting his name ~ unless he cheats does the eyes deal :heh:

Haha same here. I was a bit surprised when the tapes came in.. Was it really light that sent those ? I have my doubts...

Another amazing episode. As some already said, the tennis match was done perfectly, showing what L and Light were thinking at the moment. It was Light that made his father have a heart attack? I don't think he would go that far, but he already thinks of himself as god, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Yagami's heart attack has nothing to do with his son (Kira).

If Light gave his father a heart attack, then his father would be dead right now.

^Oh, that's right. I forgot that the person dies with the Death Note, I was thinking that Light may have written something like "Have a heart attack but does not die", but now that I think about it, that couldn't happen.

I don't quite get what the first rule meant during halftime. Can someone explain that rule?
Otherwise, another exciting but not quite exciting episode. I'm more hyped up for the next episode.
It means that you don't actually need the book to kill someone. You can rip a page out of the book and put it in your science file and it still works if you write a name on it.

Thats the second, Pakxenon asked about the first.
And as for your question Pakxenon: It means that the Death Gods don't know the limit that what the physically possible deaths are, so you have to find out.

Hmmm... Light could kill L via brain blood clots perhaps?
I liked L's excuse for his odd sitting position. 40% increase!
The tennis match was somehow dissapointing. I guess I expected it to be more... dramatic. Somehow. Eh.
Can't wait to see Rem either :D
Nice episode overall...
Im awaiting the next episode though, where they show the tapes. Wootage.

and yea the tennis scene wasnt as exciting as the scene with light eating the potatochips :3

Lol. Nice counter, musouka.
Good episode with L and Light trying to outguess each other.
Also Why do you think the original author decided to have Light win the tennis match?
And lastly Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kira doesn't kill anyone this episode. We don't even see the Death Note except in the opening/closing. Does this make this the first episode where the body count is zero?
Light won the match because he's better. They're both incredible, but he's better. He was holding back until the end because he was afraid that L would profile him if he pushed himself to win. However, that was also a lead-in to the opportunity to have a particular conversation after the match which both L and Light wanted to use to their advantage (L, to try to profile Light, and Light, to get information from L). L predicted what Light would say and denied it to him (but he apparently didn't manage to profile Light, since Light didn't have a chance to indicate that he was about to ask about the investigation before L preempted him, and L's estimate wasn't raised past 1% at that time, IIRC...).
DarrenW, good observation.
Hisago, your spoiler tag should be more descriptive than that (if you have to post it)...

Good episode, but not as incredible as the previous one.
If Raito really joins the investigation team, he'd have to walk on eggs, with L analyzing him every second.
The hospital part was kinda annoying, it should have shown a bit of emotion from the characters...L keeping on thinking will lead him to some mistake, I'm sure.
The most interesting sequence was the "4 pictures" part, in the café. The fourth pic coming out from nowhere surely gave Raito a sweat attack. He really has to act as neutral as possible, since his suspicion rate is increasing little by little...
To sum up, Raito won the tennis match, L won the pictures match. It's a draw for this time

excellent, much better than teh previous episode. Moving very fast into a clear setting, whether this process is too hasty or not, I dont much care. More attention on the dilemma of the death note is also good.

The episode was good, though there seemed to be sometimes mising to it.. Some of the shots of L with that blue light on him were Done well. The tennis match was alright.. but what really Interested me was the ending and the pre-view to next episode =) Since it looks like something big is going to happen.
I know its not meant to be funny but.. I couldn't help but laugh when they mentioned L and Light are 2 great tennis Champions :heh:
lol i can just imagine light trying to copy how he sits at home and saying "wow it really works!" XDYou know.... I bet you that after watching the episode people in RL would try it :heh:

The second i posted what i said, i knew someone would post this. :3
Subarashii!
My head got all worked up and scrambled trying to decipher the logic going around between both L and Light's thoughts during the tennis match.
The gist that I understood is that L purposefully pre-empted his questions in order to worked up Light's judgement and not just the intellect.
If Light answers 'yes', then he's having his butt tailed closely and under eye by L to no known limits. However, if Light answers 'no' then that would put him under high percentage suspicion that he's Kira to L's judgement.
Both dudes were trying to worked up the other, but seems that Light's counter-talking to L about the investigation team and case backfired a little, causing that L's suspicion rate soared a little bit up to 7%.
If Light is not careful about his I-don't-want-to-lose attitude, then he'll soon risk a 10% suspicion ratio.
Does anyone else agree with L that Light's speech to his father went beyond all that is permissibly cheesy?

haha well yea :uhoh: might try that in an exam to see if i get a better grade XD

but if light then tries hard to lose then this would make L suspicious...its a double edge attack whatever way you look at it...and what light doesnt know is what answer L expects from him ~ to win? or not?

Its the fact that its that cheesy, that it worked. :3
In episode 10, there's something about the way L says "Seven Percent." that makes me have so much faith for this series. I can't believe that when the show started, i wasen't happy with the VA that was chosen for L, though he's doing one hell of a fantastic job now.

Thing are going well. Now that L has firmly locked on to Light, their mental battles are getting more intense.
It was a good trick by L to make up a fourth pic.Light will have to be extra careful from now on.
Spoiler for next episodesWe finally get to see Misa Misa and Rem!Now things will be getting even more interesting.

Mostly been lurking, but I had to say something at seeing this. I used to sit like this a lot when I was in my teens, actually! It's rather comfortable when you have a curved back...
But more so, I have low potassium and metal content in my blood (don't absorb them as well, don't get enough in my diet either), which means I don't circulate heat as well to my extremities. Tucking in your legs (or even stuffing them in a loose T shirt) while sitting like that works wonders if you are cold. :p I never tried sitting on the balls of the toes though, more the flat-footed approach... nonetheless, L looks rather pale, so I wonder if it's because he doesn't have as good circulation. ;) Discomfort can make it hard to concentrate...
And yes, it was quite funny to see him sitting like that in the manga, considering he's my favorite character. ;) I suppose you could guess that from the avatar I tossed together.
One thing I can't get over though is the music! It may not be as exciting to listen to on it's own, but I'm definitely waiting for the OST! I'm rather worried at the ominous "37 episodes" statement... is that set in stone? The series is 12 books or so long, and at about 4 eps a volume... how can one compress ~48 down to 37? I realize a lot of people don't like the ending (fools, I say! well, ok, maybe not...)... but when has changing the ending of a manga series actually turned out well?

That piece of news was officially announced as the show started to air. Thats the series length - and at the speed the shows been going, it'll fit perfectly if you ask me.
I still think his voice dont fits his sitting pose =_=

Hmm, no ?
I found the lazy and monotone voice quite fitting his character, but I can't recall of any other better VA.

Not literally (haha, in terms of animated stories...), since Light has people dropping dead at all times due to the scheduling factor of the Note. We just don't have to hear about it this episode.
Which is the only reason why I don't have much of anything sarcastic to say about it. XD
Anyways, I bet L doesn't get the chance to move that fast regularly. It was strange seeing him so...ahem...animated.

Now that I actually had time to watch this episode, the preview leaves me wondering if they're going to introduce a new character. I've been dying to hear Hirano Aya since the beginning of the show, but then forgot till now that her character doesn't appear till quite aways into the story. XD
Well, I'll say for one thing that the show is really following the manga to a "T". I'm reading the manga as well and man talk about "not a quick read". So much stuff. Lots of talking. Didn't think I would care so much about this show but now I'm hooked.

:heh: This is my first time here at Animesuki. :)
and well, I've read all of Death Note in Manga, and watching Death Note Anime is so much better, because while you read manga, you also have to think and try to understand thing that L and Light are thinking, it's kind of tired for me. :heh:
Plus, Light is so handsome, :)

Hahahaha!!!! Well, if you're like that nerdy girl then you'd think 'L' was handsome. Hahahahaha!!! Actually, I like 'L' because he's so "odd". :) ;) I have this feeling that he might be a take off the author himself/herself. I'm wondering if the author is a woman. I just get that "feeling". But again, can't just judge by that.
But yeah, the manga takes quite a bit of work. There is SOOOOOOOO much to read. Considering the book isn't as big in page count as say, 'Berserk' or 'Buddha'. Yet you find yourself reading forever. 'Death Note' is not a book you can speed through. I was about 1/4 of the way to the end and still couldn't get through that fast enough. I had to stand in the subway terminal today and finish the last half. I know that sounds silly, but the reason I'm reading through them is,
1) I'm comparing the anime -vs- comic.
2) Plus, I have to get them into "circulation" for our new *book display* at the art college library where I work.
*Learned a valuable lesson to take manga and anime shows of the same title hand in hand. Choosing which order to watch and read them, so it won't disrupt my thought patterns for whatever expectations.
Hell, I'm the one that pushed to get that title in here for our "manga" collection. Based on my own research and student requests. :)
But it's surprising that most of the dialogue is taken directly from manga. It's like going over it twice. I guess if you've read the manga then you'd could judge whether the fansub group is doing their job. Heh heh. I guess while they were directing they made sure not to butcher it or fans would be cursing them out. But then again we have to wait and see what they do. It's still early, and with 37 ep. in the works, anything could change before viewers get to the end.
I'm curious to see what happens to 'Light' and 'L' later on.

Lots of girls I know like Light, because he is good looking and extremely a bad guy. I know that sounds weird, but that's the way it is. .:p Also L is so popular with his peculiar personality. The way he sits, the way he grabs the phone as it is something poisoned or dangerous, or the fact that he seems to be addicted to all kind of desserts, they all make him .. ummm really strange.

Nope I totally understand that. They always like the bad boys! Hahaha :D
Well, they can have them. I'll take the "oddballs". Heheheh!!! Wait till the rest of the cast shows up. It's going to get crazy. Of course, I'm already anticipating the airhead girl to show up. I've already started vol. 4 of the manga and she's a mess. So now it's time to watch ep. 11. I'll see folks there. :)
