I know this may have been adressed as most forums desire a flash chat, but have seen none here. I want to point out some key advantages in Animesuki having it's own chat.

For one, it asists members meeting people. It often helps newer members to meet with the well rounded ones and help have everyone get along. This also suggests friendly members who want to meet more people in which creates a special bond and close nit community where, statistically speaking, would increase member registration. From my past experinces, a flash chat is where the newer members could learn first hand from the well known and become model citzens of a site. Not only that I think it would have more members close and create friendships.

Following, we meet the requirements. To describe, this site has more than enough active members to have a flourishing chat. Not only that but the setup here wich I beileve is pro-board, could hold a chat. As long as you dont have that flashy one it shouldn't create cpu or server problems. Not only that but I suggest a Javascript chat, simply because it isn't that heavy.

Next, I think the chat would be a fun experince. In my view, I think a flash chat would be a great advancement in the growth of the forum. So all in all the advantages are high in adding a flash chat to the site.

However I do see some errors in the suggestion. As in some members don't want to talk to others on a constant basis. I can see where some may suggest a bashing room where inappropiate behavior occurs, but my counter statement to this already is that the administration may appoint a moderator to the chat, just to make sure everything runs smoothly.

This is a simply suggestion that I beileve will help Animesuki as it couldn't do any harm and is not a hard program to setup.

Thanks for taking the time to think over my suggestion, now what do you think members?

We already have an IRC channel for chat. You can find it by connecting to the ZiRC.org (http://www.zirc.org) IRC network (irc.zirc.org) and joining #animesuki (irc://irc.zirc.org/animesuki).

True. But IRC is IRC. Many, many of our members don't even know what IRC is. And to be honest, our channel is far less inviting than our forum. Especially for new members.

I think this is a good idea, but I'm a bit dubious of whether it will work. I've seen it fail on many other forums. And as the guy said, it will definitely need to be moderated. (I know I'll need to be moderated, anyway. :p ) So one of you guys would have more work to do.

And I have to give Asuki credit. Its members are more welcoming than any others I've ever witnessed and new members are always met with the respect they deserve. (Bar the Naruto forum)

However, this is an ever advancing forum, and if it were ever to work anywhere, it would be here. Maybe a little Java chat proggy would be fun. I know I would use it.

What hurt can it do to try it?

I say yes! Who else is with me?

I still say no. :) I see only disadvantages to trying to integrate chat into the forum. We already have a well established and staffed channel, I see no reason to pull away from it. Educating members so they become curious about IRC is more appealing to me than trying to install a chat client that will never be as reliable or feature rich as IRC.

The forum is discussion focused and structured around maintaining such debate. Chat is fast moving with the topic changing from moment to moment. Trying to run such a thing inline with the forum will invite more arbitrariness into the forum. The fact the channel is removed from the forum provides both environments with a level of isolation that helps each one remain more interesting and fun. Chat doesn't want to be as strict as a forum, and the forum doesn't want to be as unrestricted/structured as chat.

IRC is the right tool for the job; it isn't broken so we don't need to fix it... and even if we did, I'm not convinced a chat module would be an improvement. Sorry :)
