Saw Episode 11.
I'm putting my impressions of it in spoilers as the raws probably won't be available for another few hours.
What else can I say about this episode besides Misa?
Well, bringing in Misa and Rem certainly stirs up the whole plot, bringing back the excitement that has been absent for awhile. However, this episode portrayed how clever L is, immediately pointing out that the killings were the work of a new Kira who can kill from sight alone, and deducing that this new killer is in possession of the shinigami eyes.
On the other hand, Light (with the smallest amount of screen time he gets so far), despite being elated at the emergence of a new Kira, exposes his uncertainty towards the situation, something which L already uses to his advantage by summoning him to L's base.
Misa's story on how she came into possession of the Death Note, and why she agreed to exchange half of her remaining life for the shinigami eyes will likely be explained in the subsequent stories, potentially leaving viewers who aren't familiar with the manga or movie left in the dark until then. For a teen girl, she surely knows how to disguise her voice (to the chagrin of Hirano Aya fans), although L probably took notice of any prominent charactetistics, much in the way he was able to see through the postage stamp camouflage. By the way, why did she give L 4 days to reply in the first place?
Souichirou is one tough cookie, haha. I suppose after barging his way into the TV station like that, he couldn't care about the consequences of pointing a loaded gun at a civilian.
So the Misa arc kicks in at Episode 11, less than one third of the scheduled story count. I guess then DEATH NOTE will cover Part 2 of the manga starting from Vol. 7.
Too bad next week will be a special recap episode. Hm, does this mean it will be included in the episode count, making the main plot effectively 36 episodes? (which makes sense from a DVD sales point of view). Definitely need to see and hear more Misa.

And at that point is where Death Note's popularity is going to get volatile real fast! :heh:

If its just going to be classed as episode 11.5, then i believe we're safe from it being added to the overall episode count. Shall have to wait and see~

The VA for Misa and Rem were right on target. Perfect and cute for Misa and still good with Rem.
Covers the end of chapter 2, with volumes 23-25. The ending was also perfect, had a much better impact than the manga. There are some parts that they nailed in the anime that they couldnt do in the manga. Yet still its getting better now, episode 10 was a small let down, not that much excitement, but with this episode we can kick start this new arc of excitement and yes more MisaMisa fanning to come.
@ eggplant: Im confused with what you meant at the end as a recap? From what I saw in the next episode, they just continued with the story, unless I'm missing something.
Hirano Aya in a strange way works alright for Misa.. though i always had more of a gentle voice in my head for her - sure to grow on me just like the rest of the cast. As for Rem - yay my favorite character finally appears. Her VA is absolutely fantastic.. done very nicely.
I'm also in the same boat as Itachikun about the recap - i only posted that before 'cause i didn't see the episode.

Regarding the recap, I've checked Newtype and some websites and have confirmed that it will not be included in the episode count, so in a way it will be Episode 11.5.
I've scanned the Newtype DEATH NOTE synposis page as reference (warning: spoilers!)

from this eps, (i didn't read the manga by the way) i understand that Misa does know;
- Kira#1 can not kill without the name. Meaning, Kira did not exchange the contract for the eyes of Death Gods...
- That she can control the victims' actions just before their deaths. So, she were able to send the file from Osaka. (Even she was in Osaka, i'm sure that she did so, because there would be lots of problems like borrowing point, fingerprint...)...
o Also, i believe that she can kill a person even his/her face is covered. Because Death Gods should be able to kill in the same conditions. If they could not, people would able to live through eternity by concealing their faces.. no..?

Remember Ryuk's explanation for why Death Gods kill humans? It's because they get time added to their lives based on how much earlier than their natural lifespan the human died. This implies that Death Gods are not the cause of natural death, or even most accidental deaths. It seems that all they do is kill a few people here and there to achieve immortality and spend the rest of their time killing time, as it were. It's probably best not to think of them as incarnations of death, but supernatural beings with a specific power over death. There's really no reason for them to exist, but they do (in the world of Death Note) and this is a story about their powers.

yess!!
right!! now i understand, thanx :)
To extrapolate on that idea...
Judging from what Ryuk said, Shinigami "no longer" have any purpose in the world. This seems to be a strong sociological statement to me. When that statement is taken in conjunction with what Bahamut89 said, you can make conjectures about why Shinigami kill. On particular reason that could provide impetus for killings is that they are keepers of order. Evidence is as follows:
1. They must kill to stay alive.
2. They cannot tell what a person will do (they are not omniscient).
3. They are selective in their targets, though they most likely do not kill children, who would give them the longest lifespan additions--if they did that, they wouldn't need the Shinigami's eyes.
4. Assuming that, we can say they are not evil beings, and may have originally killed evil beings.
5. The portals from the Shinigami world see numerous facets of Earth; this could be to see when people were "sinning".
6. The Shinigami's eyes are partly a tool to see how fast you could stop a sinner's life before he does anything worse.
In that theory, Shinigami were first-action enforcers. I'm guessing that Ryuk's allusion to "no one cares anymore" to the author's implication that the world has become largely immoral and its ethics completely convoluted, which fits the overall theme of the series.
Subs by TW are out, I can't wait to hear Aya Hirano :heh:
That sure was a nice twist, I was wondering how Light could kill these strangers, and it turns out it wasn't him at all. Its also interesting that Light already wants to get rid of the new kira, while misa wants to be friends? she'll sure get a nice suprise of what an ashol light is.

HOLY F ME! That was a really good episode. I want to see the next one NOW! I was sooo not expecting that to happen at all, but I had the idea that no way he could be the only one in the world with a death note.

Another very good episode. Another kira is sure a very unexpected twist.
10/10
Wow a very entertaining episode, kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Wow, now that was a plot twist i did not expect. Nicely done. So... Misa wants to be friends :p ... i bet Light will find a way to manipulate her if they ever get to talk/he doesn't kill her first.
One thing tho - how in the world does she know that Light does not have the shinigami eyes ? Messed up writing, or....?
L shows of his intelect again...and that move about not telling Light about the fact that he knows about second Kira is brilliant... this might cause some problems for Light.
Damn, this is getting really good....i soo want to see the next ep, but we get a god damn useless recap T.T

Outstanding episode. The tension, the action, the drama, it all worked brilliantly. Absolutely riveting stuff, even though the same could be said of all this series, but I still think this was one of the more enthralling episodes. Obviously the more interesting stuff is to come, eg, what role Misa takes in this story and how she'll interact with Light and L (and how they'll interact with each other now that they're well... sorta allies).
I look forward to seeing how Hirano Aya will take to the role of Misa. The voice acting in Death Note has been superb so far and Hirano has been launched into the spotlight somewhat after her work in (and as) Suzumiya Haruhi. She does have quite a unique voice and an unusual ability to go from cute to not-so with only a very small change in tone.

Well she knows that Kire/Light has to see people and know their names in order to kill them. He refuses to get the eyes because he want to rule as a god as long as pissible. That's why L was a little confused when he was talking about Kira not needing someone name to kill them just their face. BUT DAMN...she messed everyone up bad, she's pretty gutsy and awesome...I LIKE HER!!

Good episode. Aya Hirano's voice sounds a bit stuck to me for some reason, but I overall enjoyed it pretty well. The new death god's voice was probably what I would have expected it to be. They really did a nice job making the next episode look good from the preview. And as has been said, too bad about the recap. =\
I don't know, barely even found this episode interesting :P I felt like it was just drawn-out throughout the entire time, except for the last 5 minutes, ofcourse. My first time not giving a 9 or 10 to a death note episode. Maybe it's because I'm such a huge Light-fan though :P

Having only before read the first volume and a later volume where Misa was already well enmeshed into the plot, I had no idea of how and when she was introduced. So when people started being bumped off without names, I was like..."no names...shinigami eyes...MISA!" And then I had the giddiest nerdgasm I have ever had in my life. I'm glad no one else was home. OMG, MISA! :D

Looks like Ryuk done started himself a FAD.
As a nonreader of the manga I find myself wondering whether Misa can hang with L and Light in the brains club or if she's more dependent on the additional layer of anonymity granted by the eyes.
I think I probably enjoyed this episode more than any since L got his act going in 2 and 3. I got all bummed out when Light killed Penbar and Naomi. Well, I'm assuming she's dead, but the continued absence of a body is starting to make me suspicious, even though Light provided for it. Power to deny fate or outside intervention plz. Inspector Yagami For Great Justice-ing that stupid TV station was great.

Misa's voice was great. Not what I expected but sounds good. Reminds me of Chopper/Pkiachu's seiyuu.
Things are going to start heating up for the first part of the story.

i was quite impressed to see how L managed to keep his cool though all this...i mean seeing people drop like flies in front of you and not being able to do anything ~ he must have been pissed yet the only sign of him breaking was him shaking his legs in anger...
man hes soo cool when it cam to the phone scene...i bet his left and right ears have a mind of their own XD

If someone was pointing a gun upto L, or maybe he knows he's about to be killed by Kira - you know for a fact he'd keep his cool. :3

Haha, I liked that too.
I enjoyed Yagami's antics. That was sweet. When the detective - forgot his name - collapsed, I figured something was fishy. Not because Light hadn't revealed it before hand to us, but that with rules as they are, it would have been impossible. And then there was the random shot of a pair of binoculars...
As for Misa, she sounds/looks like she's graduated from Milky productions and I want her to die.
I'd be highly surprised if she's half as clever about things as Light is, but since she has the Eyes, I'm thinking not.
Well, it'll be interesting...

It was a pretty good ep.
But i wonder why did this other shinigami let his deathnote fall in to human hands.
I dont think it is for his own amusment like Ryuk,
he seems to serious for that.
But i think that will be resolved in further episodes to come.
But the girl is a bit dumb she already did the Shinigami Eye deal,
and thus lost half of her life.

Yep.. it's a pretty nice episode.. though I thought it was kinda short and it's kinda frustrating to hear that the next episode is gonna be a recap and they had to do it right after Misa's short appearance. /rant
Anyways.. the other Death God is a female and the reason Misa has the Death Note would be -if I'm not wrong- discovered at episode 13. It's a pretty good one.. imo and it also.. sort of explains why she accepted the eyes.

Nice epi! I loved the background music in this!
I loved how they showed L kinda loose some of his calmness after Ukita died, him kinda shaking in the chair was a great effect. Shows you that L is human after all.
I will say the over dramatic ways they animated certain thing, like L with both the phones is quite amusing but I really like it, it adds to the overall feel of the anime
Also Rem's voice was perfect!!! and Hirano Aya is a great choice for Misa

I don't think the anime translated Light's Death Note instructions fully.
The manga made it pretty clear. Light's instructions for Naomi's death were that she go to a place that "only she knew" and go kill herself in a way that wouldn't be suspicious and her body wouldn't be found.
this is getting better by every episode. i was on the edge of my seat all the time ^^ unbelivable!
and another character appeared, i was beginning to wonder when she would show up. well, she's got the eyes, so technically that makes her stronger.
and i wonder what's wrong with L, in the preview for the next episode something looked very, very wrong, same with yagami.
to bad i have to wait another week.

I wonder if Misa will be intelligent like Light? It looks like she is pretty reckless, however she got god eyes.
Well she knows that Kire/Light has to see people and know their names in order to kill them.
But how does she know that? Unless she had a visit from Ryuk and he told her that Light hasn't done the eyes deal, i don't see how she could know that. Unless her brainpower = L, which i highly doubt.

Yeah, that's what I got out of the sub I have. I said 'even though Light provided for it' because I'm suspicious even though the current situation makes perfect sense given Light's instructions. Also setting myself up for another disappointment, but that's how things go.
Damn after reading the manga that is so NOT the voice I wanted Misa to have. MISA IS NOT LIKE HARUHI, THEREFORE HER VOICE SHOULD NOT SOUND EXACTLY LIKE HARUHI. BLRAHGHAGHRGRBLALALHSDLHE!!!

Seriously, when i heard Misa speak - i didn't think Haruhi at all. She reminded me more of Pachira from Magical Pokan. Makes a lot more sense seeing as though the two characters act the same.

Simply a great episode. Yagami Souichirou has got to be one of my favourite characters after L and Light. And unlike his son, doesn't carry that sort of twisted justice with him. He simply kicks ass.
Finally Misa Misa appears!!!
Well, what did you expect? It's already been decided long ago that Hirano Aya would do Misa, I'd be surprised if Hiranos voice changed drastically. So instead of complaining that Misa sounds too much like Haruhi, it should be more like complaining about why Hirano was given the role in the first place.
Personally, I think Hirano didn't do too bad and Misa only appeared for a few minutes for this episode. Give Hirano more time to prove herself, hopefully the Haruhi influence would wane over time.
It's just like sometimes I got so used to listening to Paku Romi as Edward Elric in FMA, that at first it's disorienting when I hear her voice Hitsugaya in Bleach, but over time that disorientation would wear off and it would sound natural.
I was really unimpressed with Hirano, which surprises me because I thought she did really well in Haruhi. Just...everything seemed off. It wasn't so much that she sounded like a screeching, slightly higher Haruhi. It was more that I felt there was an issue with her acting. Instead of losing myself in the character, it was as though she was screaming "IT IS HIRANO AYA PLAYING MISA-MISA!!"
Though I know about half of 2ch disagrees with me, when I hear Kappei as L, I hear L, not "Yamaguchi Kappei as L". Miyano has a few issues with reminding me of Tamaki, but overall he still feels like "Light" to me. Misa? I felt like she was trying too hard and not quite hitting the mark.
But, well, she had about four lines, so it's probably too soon to judge. Maybe she needs some time to settle into the role.

If you noticed the binoculars on the table in a room, you can make the assumption that she was hiding at some nearby apartment building.
WTF 4-5 months have already passed by in the anime since hey were talking about that ray penbars fiancee and saying that shes been gone for 4 months. those must have been a quick 4 months haha
This is how much confirms the suspense factor in DEATH NOTE. The viewer never knows when about hell starts to break loose, until all the clue pieces fall down and fitting them reveal a ghastly revelation.
Kira the second. The Kira that made the deal for the Shinigami eyes. I do totally condemn the manner how addresses the world to impose its sense of morality and wrong to all people's inhabitants, plus contradicting at the same time the judgement of the original Kira.
I have to figure it out all along that Kira would never snap to such recklessness as to make such audacious act in the TV station.
I can empathize with both L's and Yagami's burning rage. One has to keep his intellect cool while bearing witness on TV senseless deaths on everyone, while the other takes the initiative to break into the building with a bus and forced out the tapes from the Director; clearly that anyone who doesn't agree but rather is pissed off by this "Kira's" presumptuous attitude must stand against and risk a suicidal bet, but fortunately, Yagami's drastic action knew better how to circumvent the identity fatality safely.
Light obviously plans to take advantage of this Kira 2nd and is somewhat grateful, since the police is taken astray with now two different types of clue paths.
He knows better that L's also deduced instantly that there's the unexpected, second Kira after watching the incident at the TV station and likely with all the tapes having been retrieved by the Kira investigation team.
However, he digresses with this Kira, because made the Kira name sullied upon the peoples of the world; Light always makes clear that he's not after the innocent, non-transgressors but Kira 2 minds not if everything is to pleasure Kira.
Misa is extraordinarily freakish, and well selfish as no current belief of morals restrain her to take an-eye-for-an-eye virtually upon everyone that denounces Kira.
What's also strange to me was Rem, that on its words remarks Misa that the game she just stepped in is dangerous and will eventually lead her to her death.
Death Gods are supposedly ambiguous and ambivalent towards the note users; not acting as either allies or foes to them.
Would have sounded on different words that Rem's concerned are directed more towards the Death Note "it" lent to Misa to have the note back as soon as possible.

When Light's father enter, she can't see him, that's right but when he leaves, everyone can see his face.
At this moment, I believe she's gone because, she could easily kill Light's father, even if she doesn't see his face well ...
And there is another man at that moment, he even says his name on TV ! Both are unarmed, that's strange...
Another good episode. Looks like episodes 1-11 are covered in volumes 1-3. I was waiting for her to appear. The next episode should be interesting. I may have to stop reading now and continue watching and then go back and read as my thoughts are often affected by the choice of what to do first. Hm that was pretty unexpected, but it made perfect sense. I couldn't understand how those police officers that arrived at the tv station got killed, but a 2nd deathnote owner with the eyes sure explains it. I can't help but think how interesting Light's reaction might have been if Light's dad arrived at the hospital without hiding himself.

I am getting tired with L and Light's lack of mistakes and rather unbleievable deduction skills, I'd have preferred main characters who were smart but still made major mistakes every now and then, not because they are overcome by emotions as Light did a few times but because they have made a miscalculation. Every time L talks about percentages, I want to tell him that this is not theoretical maths and there is no way to calculate chances that precisely.
And Misa just beat the record set by Light for me wanting to see a character dying a very painful death. I must be the only anime fan in the world who does not like Hirano Aya. :)
But it's an enjoyable series, don't get me wrong, maybe I expected too much because of the hype.

I think most people hate Misa Misa.
You'll see that people make plenty of mistakes as it goes on later.
As for L's reasoning ability... it's just part of his character to give percentages. It's meant to be taken lightly. The entire whole of L's character is to provide a humorous foil to Light's uber-serious, uber-demonic character.

It might have been explained more clearly in the manga...
L coordinates with the deputy chief to have the police make a barrier outside the TV station. They seem to have vans and drapes, as well as police with a shield formation all to hide the TV station from outside view, since they have determined Kira is not in the building due to Yagami still being alive. So Yagami walks out from the building behind the cover of the police barrier, gets in the car and drives away.

I've seen people quantify some pretty amazing stuff. QJM project for WWII was just insane.
Ep 11
Misa Misa...
I agree with the rest. Light's father, Souchiro, was really cool. He rocks! This episode was so great that I didn't care much about Light's short screentime.
Misa didn't kill the reporter guy because she didn't need to. She left the place (Sakura TV) since her goal of attarcting attention has been achieved. I believe any questions you have will be answered in Ep 12.

I totally agree! That one made me shiver, it suited the scene so much. When will the OST be released? Or is it released? Maybe we should ask this in the music thread... :heh:
Hey! Don't tell other about Rem's gender! It's a spoiler! Well... not really since her voice give it out I guess. But still! :p
I remember myself when reading the manga. I was really shocked to know that Rem's a female in later volumes haha.

My my... if a red eyeballed character appears, we can already guess some bad events coming...
thanks to people who give manga spoilers to the non-readers
Can't wait for the L/Raito pairing; Raito has now to accept Ryuk's deal. Is there any other way to defeat that girl ? Don't think so...

When will the OST be released?
This thursday.

Its not just the voice, its her facial features that had me understanding he Gender right from the start in the manga.
But yes, it is much more easier to tell in the anime thanks to her VA.

Hahah, 4chan picked up on something, play "kira's" messages at 2x speed (Press the fast foreword button in MPC) and you'll hear Misa's voice though her sound edit (Though it's more Haruhi than Misa, whatever).
Hehe, 4chan is smarter than L, who knew?

You mean by seducing her ? :heh: :heh:
The opening theme suggests it indeed...
hitokirigirl dear, we apologize for any spoiling. I can't see where, so please indicate specific posts in order to edit them so that others won't be spoiled. Thanks. :D
Cool Shiroth! I can't wait. <3 (I'm labeling you the OSTpedia haha)

Oh my you're right hahaha! It does seem like a woman's voice. It would've been a valuable clue (which I think is already approached since L said "all those criminals are mentioned in women's magazines and chat shows").
Thanks for sharing. XD

Don't apologize Lilith, it was in some previous episode threads, I can't remember which one.
and it was about what will happen to L ...
From episode 11 and thanks to that damn spoiler, I can predict what's gonna happen :upset:
I'm not blaming anyone, but please, if people brings some manga spoilers, say it clearly before the spoiler tag. Thanks :)

I think maybe Madhouse just recorded Aya's voice for the "Kira" voice and then slowed it down 2x to make for some sinister evil voice. No way this could just be coincidence :-P
Hehe, 4chan is smarter than L, who knew?
What has this world come to!?

A bit too sudden, maybe I should have read the manga..
Not only is that shinigami's gender a spoiler (and it definitely should be considered a spoiler, not just "evident", but I can't elaborate on why since there's no discussion of the manga here--if someone wants to know why, post about it in the Spoilers & Speculation topic), but so is its name, lol... Also Lilith, one example of a spoiler in this topic would be the obvious "hint" that Darklightz gives in his post.
Edit: hitokigiril, I see you're viewing this topic. However, disregard what I said, I didn't notice that you said the spoilers you referenced weren't from this topic.
Cool Shiroth! I can't wait. <3 (I'm labeling you the OSTpedia haha)
Thanks, i appreciate it. ^^;;
I am a fan who loves his musical scores after all~

excellent episode as always i never worry about being disappointed with deathnote. Things sure have gotten intresting with the arrival of a second Shinigami. It seems not everyone think Kira is a bad guy this girl does not seem to have th intelligence that Light and L have but she way more dangerous. Im interested to see how L and Light will handle this new info. Light seems her as a threat of course so its in his best interest to get rid of her as soon as possible. The problem i see is this girl seems very fickle and on top of that she has Shinigami eyes she can kill L and Light just by seeing them. In this case L is at a disadvantage not having all the info. Light knows about the eyes and what they can do given that Ryuk offered him the deal twice.
I did not expect one of the Kira detectives to go down so soon. The plan they came up with to get Lights dad out of the station was brilliant and it also shows that the police are very serious as well about not bowing down to Kira. Cant wait to see how L and Light work together while testing in each other to see who gives anything away first.

If it makes you feel any better...
(semi-spoiler for nonmanga readers)
You need to have a bit more faith in L's skills. ;) I can assure you, you won't be able to figure it out at all from just that spoiler. Not from this point in the battle.
Also, as to the fake empiricism. It's true that you can quantify a lot, and really, I haven't seen L reduce things by more than, let's say, steps of '40'.
He gave 10, no 5%, which is a fair guestimation. Then he said 1%, which means (as Light says) "just a very slight chance". When he says 3% later, it's basically 'between 1 and 5, my previous estimates', and 7% was a step up from that. I view '70%' as "better than 2/3rds' chance, so mostly I view all these percentiles as decent guestimation more so than exact quantification. If he started tossing out numbers at very odd points or with decimals, I might more agree; most of the numbers used however are divisible easily or come close to another figure previously listed. A 40% drop is 'almost half of my thinking ability, but not quite'... the oddest figure listed so far was 7% in my opinion.

wow, i already thought it would be another kira, but its such a great element to put into this story at this point.
yes, she doesnt seem to be very smart, but that makes her extremly dangerous for light, should they catch her and find out everything about the death note hes in real trouble. and at the same time, shes his best chance of bringing L down, because she will be able to see his name.
and for l on the other hand, its a perfect opportunity to catch light.
those two palying mind games with each other seems to end in a stalemat,e but bringing in that girl makes everything exciting again, because its impossible to see where this is going.
amazign stuff.

L still doesnt know there is a second shinigami right?
cose Light can always use her as an escaped route, framing her for his doing...
is L a reincarnation of a shinigami? he sure doesnt act like a human though...

I didn't even realize Aya Hirano was doing Misa's voice. I saw her name in the credit so I went back to watch the episode a second time. And now I really REALLY hate whoever gave her the position.
The thought of Haruhi's voice coming out from misa misa... -_-
When I heared Rem's and Misa's voice I was shocked...both voices sound waaaaaaaaaaaay different from how I imagened it to be...and I'm not liking it at all <.<;
Ah well, at least the rest of the characters sound perfect to me =]
Nice episode. Its a little word, hearing suzumiya haruhi's voice XD but i have confidence in hirano aya's excellent voice acting. Now that L knows about this, I think it should be easy for him to fake a kira video that has a hidden message asking for the two kiras to meet. It would be a nice trap IMO.
This anime is truly genius, and every episode thus far, has been flawless imo. I can't wait for the next episode.

what's up with L freaking out when aizawa grabs him when ukita dies? One of my friends said that she might had the idea that L was abused when he was younger.
but then again, it's just a theory.
