I thought it was 11.5, and it's a recap. So maybe its not part of the episode.

Still wondering...

So you're right - still, nothing of a recap was ever mentioned.. will it happen?

Recap/Special Screencaps and Brief Summary (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2006/12/19/death-note-special/)

Only about a third of it was recap, the rest was cast and director interviews. A fun special to watch, hosted by Hirano Aya and Kudou Haruka.

Kenichi Matsuyama will be playing a role in the Death Note anime series.

For those of you who don't know who it is, he is the person that played L in the Live-action movies.

Judging from the screenshots - the animation is yet again on top form. The same level we've seen in the past, it should work perfectly for what'll happen in this episode.

Just watched the episode - just as i expected, its awesome.

L's shock at the Shinigami part had me curving in my seat at awesomeness, seriously amazingly done at capturing the right emotion for the scene. I was in tears of the Jealous story, just like i was in the manga - i hope i'm not the only one thats able to feel for Jealous.. its really amazing how they can show such emotion from that scene.. and from the type of character.

I dunno, I mean L's reaction to the video about Shinigami, well it wasn't as good as i thought. too dramatized. I mean who reacts like that?

As for Jealous, he was voiced by Matsumoto Kenichi, the actor who played L in the live-action movie, so it was definitly a treat to see him do some nice VA.

you should know that L was acting the entire time :) i mean his response is abnormal for him so naturally hes faking a "big shock" ~ i bet he already knew something was unnatural about the killings already...knowing about shimigamis wont come as that much of a shock to him imo... oh and i must say...that scene is the funnies ive ever seen L act XD

great ep :) L is trying really hard to mess with light (who is getting really stressed/pissed off)

we learn more about misa and that story rem told was touching...poor jealous :(

The way L reacted after learning there may be Death Gods for the first time was hilarious, but still a bit too exaggerated for my taste, compared to the subtle performance of Matsuyama Kenichi (who did a not-too-bad cameo as Jealous) in the live-action movie version, who simply fell off his sliding chair.

I guess jury's still out on anime Misa huh? I'm going to continue giving Hirano Aya more time to make an impression, especially the next two episodes, when she'll appear more often. (Must shake off impression of Haruhi...... )

A pretty good episode. For a moment, I thought they were going to cut out a pretty huge portion of the manga with the last scene. Luckily, it wasn't and was just a new scene with dialogues added from elsewhere in the manga to make things more dramatic perhaps.

What a great episode! The plot is deepening even further. This model shure threw a twist into the story. And finding out about a death gods "weakness" is even more intresting. Cant wait for ep 13!

I voted for 5 at this episode as it was just.. below average :P Usually in the episodes there are a large number of things that I find interesting, however in this one I only thought 2 were. The way to kill a shinigami and the fact that misa-chans shinigami said ryuk tricked the god of shinigamis and that it was really hard to do so. Anyhow, I hope it'll come a really great episode soon ^^

Wait, in the last scene, shouldn't the two shinigami recognize each other? Or that happens later?

I think they added that scene in, I don't recall it in the manga.

Misa didn't see Kira. Light is in that spot in the back of the cafe. If you remember a few episodes back or whenever Light and L meet in the cafe, Light told L that particular seat was his favorite spot because it's away from the crowd and in the back where you can't overhear.

I suppose if Misa was sitting on the other side of the table she might of seen Light.. er, specifically what's above him..

Deathkillz
2006-12-29, 19:42
funny tho...shouldnt ryuk or rem have spotted each other in the cafe? i mean the are always floating besides their "owner" so its only natural that they would have scouted each other...i guess next ep is when they truly meet ~ and probably in that same cafe ~

LOL, they had to make the last scene rather annoying! Being close to each other and not even noticing it, how typical!

>.> L's freaking out was a little unrealistic. I mean honestly, you'd think a detective like L who can keep his cool all the time would be able to remain stable. But then again, maybe he has some odd fear against shinigamis o.O Who knows :D.

Its not in the manga - can't say i really like the scene. It completely changed the set mood of the episode into something you'd see in a TV drama.

I agree with what other members said, it doesn't fit such a cool, calm and collected char to freak out like that, surprised me, but it didn't bother me though. Raito's acting bothers me more, I thought he would be so proud to go against L himself, but seems I was wrong. It really annoys me that he hopes Misa is going to handle that matter, because it's cowardly and I didn't think so about him.

Jaruromania

If you fast foward the "fake Kira" voice in this episode (and the previous one), you get what sounds like Aya Hirano talking really fast, but when you fast forward the "real Kira" voice, you don't really get anything but someone talking really fast. I guess it's because L and co. aren't so stupid as to leave such an obvious clue!

Anyway, hearing Misa talk for more than 5 lines like she did last episode was awesome. In Rem's little story though, doesn't that girl in the flashback seem too old to be even Misa, let alone Misa when she was younger?

Oh, and I've been wondering, how can L still not figure out that Light is Kira? There's basically no one besides them who are super geniuses and can deduce things the way they do; no one is even close to their level of thinking and reasoning, and Light has pretty much already shown his full abilities to them. Shouldn't that give L enough evidence already, or does he think that there really are that many super geniuses in the world that can match up to his level?

Shiroth
2006-12-29, 22:48
Oh, and I've been wondering, how can L still not figure out that Light is Kira?
There's no 'figuring it out' when it comes to L. He's just using this time to nail more of the matters that are happening, and bringing them back to Light. Also, he needs evidence before he can do anything.

Most of the episode was really good as usual. But as others mentioned the last seen in the restaurant was simply retarded. Unfortunately it just about ruined the whole episode for me.

What was the anime team thinking having Light and Misa in the same room?! The Deathgods should have noticed each other. I find it to be totally illogical that neither Ryuk or Rem were with their "masters" even though that is the only explanation as to why nothing happened in the restaurant. Stupid.

Wow, Misa is really dumb

Haha... that was the first impression that I had about her after watching this episode as well. After seeing how she unknowingly rattled Raito's cage by making all of those references to Shinigamis and whatnot, I almost expected her to agree to meet Kira on public television! As an anime-only watcher, Misa seems like a very quirky character so far, and I'm not really liking her. Perhaps its because I see her as an extremely dismissive Haruhi-sama who therefore feels no sadness towards Jealous' sacrifice for her. The way that Misa went from "extremely contemplative about Jealous" to "let's go meet Kira mode!!" in about two seconds really irked me. This has been her first full episode appearance, so hopefully Misa starts to sound more like Misa and less like Haruhi to me.

On a side note, I loved the color imagery again this episode. Misa's red hat when she was about to be murdered matched Raito's blood stained hair when he was thinking about how to murder Naomi. It fits the red (evil) vs. blue (good) battle very well. The funny part is that it's almost like Misa's red hat was foreshadowing her becoming an owner of a Death Note. Almost.

This a key difference between Light and L for several reasons.

L has so far always gone on evidence and never acted unless he was reasonably sure given his current information that the outcome would be beneficial. Light on the other hand has taken chances he didn't need to in order to get ahead (killing the fake L and the FBI agents) that put him at risk of being discovered. Also, the people Kira kills have sometimes not even been convicted of a crime, it is mentioned several times that he has killed people who have gotten off on "lack of evidence." What if those people really were innocent? But Light is not concerned with the side effects as long as the end he is aiming for is attainable, the perfect world free of crime.

Light's high deductive abilities do seem to L like a trait of Kira, but if someone like Light exists, someone else with similar mental abilities could exist elsewhere. There is also the fact that L is not Kira, he cannot simply write Light's name down in a book. He has to get evidence to prove Light is Kira and then convince a court of law or some other judicial power of his claims. In that situation, he has to prove 100% that Light is Kira, not go by speculation. This is one advantage Light has over L (as well as his death god and the fact that his method of killing is unknown.)

Zalith
2006-12-30, 01:36
Yes, evidence is the key. Without solid evidence, L can't do anything to Light. Or if Light confesses that he's Kira from his own mouth and there's witnesses.

Like Arkwright said, the killing of the fake L and the FBI agents were rushed and unnecessary. Light should've considered the possibility of L using the fake L on TV to trick him into something. He also should've known that someone like L wouldn't show himself on TV just like that. I mean, it'd be like L asking for death. Meh.

Misa's annoying =\...

Its like Mark Hamil, no matter how good he acted, people can only see him as Luke Skywalker and can't seem to go past that.

Aya-chan left too much of an impact, our impression of her as Haruhi-sama will forever be engraven in our minds.

But I agree that her voice makes Misa sounds as though she's on helium, but still I love the bubbly character she created.

Yet again i have to mention that Hirano Aya's role in Magical Pokan left more of an impact playing Pachira. Seriously, suits the role of Misa perfectly.

I haven't watched Magical Pokan yet, maybe I should watch the 7 anime she was casted in. Her hard work must be appreciated.

Anyway what I meant is something like this: her voice fits Misa's character, but not exactly her face. Maybe we just can't shake off our image of Haruhi when we hear her voice.

Good episode, but I never found a problem with Misa's VA--suits her perfectly.

Trying to justify the L freaking out thing...maybe because of two "Kiras" mentioning Gods of Death, L reasoned that there's a very likely chance of their existence (Like Light and L's 'Second Kira' theory). I dunno about you guys, but Death Gods existing would make anyone seem powerless...especially if L is a target, his death, and the failure of the investigation, would be likely to happen. Just a bit of bias, cuz I lub L.

And the last scene was okay...even if the Death Gods saw eachother, they didn't have to say 'hello'...Light was pretty deep in thought, so even he wouldn't notice if Ryuk glanced over at Rem...or something..

I admit I haven't seen any anime with her in it, and I am finding the voice to be out of place...

Having read the manga I am already somewhat used to the character of Misa and the voice she is using doesn't seem to fit it at all... I'm still holding back judgment a little because we haven't seen a full episode of her yet. In this episode at some points she used a lower pitch which seemed more appropriate to me, but when she was higher pitched, it sounded too... "sharp" I guess, and unnatural. I guess I may not know... Do people talk like that?

The episode was very impressive since Light is pressured on how to contact and find the second Kira without allowing the investigation team to gain an edge over him to that clue.

L reaction to Kira 2nd slipping out about the existence of the Death Gods took me by surprise. I wonder what was the real deal with L when he made all the fright drama about the Death Gods?
Is he playing fool with the investigation team, because his suspicion percentage about Light being Kira has not subsided yet, and therefore, he's concealing an interpretation clue from the team that might help him to deduce on Kira's killing method?

Unfortunately, I must express dissatisfaction on how Misa conducted her response in the video tape. She got loose of her fan worship for Kira, that without prudence let out the hints about the "Death God eyes" and the "Shinigami".
Her foolishness doesn't earn her either respect nor praise from Light. Quite on the contrary, Misa, I may daresay, has no spine, and she's more of spoiled child that possessing the Death Note can do away anything to whim.

She's susceptible and malleable to be manipulated and throw away once her usefulness expires.

And seriously doesn't anyone here notices, as I did, that Misa behaves or draws some connotations to a California valley girl? Except that she's kind of pretty weird, on the occult stuff (did anyone look at the dolls in her room?), and she's more like sort of the gothic fashion.

I personally have no beef with Hirano's genki approach to Misa, who might I remind is the fangirl of fangirls in the Death Note world. She seems out of place because compared to just about every other character in DN, she's the only one who doesn't take things seriously at all. She's an amoral human who takes killing lightly (probably the only one in the series if memory serves correct), and Hirano's take on Misa reflects this to a tee. If she didn't feel out of place, then that IMO would be weird.

Just my two cents...

Zalith
2006-12-31, 00:42
Misa needs to think more thoroughly how to express her love for Light. If she really liked Light, she wouldn't pressure and rush him like that and let the "Death Gods" and the "Posess the eyes" parts slip out. I mean, she knew it'd be broadcasted on TV =\. She should've taken more precaution.

Do people talk like that?Yep, there is!

What you're hearing is Aya-chan's natural voice ;) . Hirano Aya.

Maybe you can do some research on her, using google, youtube or such. You'll see how talented she is. She can switch pitches and transform her tone almost digitally.

Hirano aya is definitely a superb VA. Her different pitches are natural, especially can be seen when she sings and when she plays her characters.

i was thinking the same thing but then rationalizing it, you can do pretty stupid things when you're in love. from what it looks like, she's overly excited and wants to connect with Kira. so she's babbling on about stuff only they would know about to try and make an impression.

An 8 from me. (- point for that last scene + I still cant get over L's overreacting .. :D)

For those peoples calling Misa stupid.. remember that the characters dont have the god view that we viewers enjoyed.. thus what Misa did is rationalize IMO.. She's acting as a normal Kira's fangirl (well, not so normal in her case).

I love Misa potrayal to be honest.. her naiviety is well done.

Oh I forgot one thing, Jealous's voice was awesome!!!

Misa is rational in her devotion to Kira/Light but that dont mean I have to like her :D

Also Ive been thinking about this since reading the manga.

How old do you think Misa is? She was suppose to die that day that Jealous saved her so his remaining life was transfered to her but since she took the eye deal that cut it in half. Since Shinigami's life extends when they kill a human, who knows how much extra life Misa got. Just something to think about.

This isn't exactly a spoiler. It's not like..it reveals any of the plot. Well, some of it. It's not like..a real spoiler. But whatever, read at your own risk =P

Misa's older than Takada. In the manga, when Takada invites Misa for dinner, they got into a little argument, remember? It went like this:

Misa: And if they caught you, you would surely be sent to deathrow.
Takada: Miss Amane. I'm annoyed.
Misa: Misa too.
Takada: I guess I'll have to wait until you grow to be civilized enough to have dinner with me.
Misa: Oooh? I'm older than you!

Since Takada went to school with Light, then Takada's most likely the same age as Light. So when Misa first appeared and stuff, Light was 17, right? So Misa's probably...a few years older than him? 18-20?

Eh, I wish that asking for a spoiler was as unaccepted as spoiling itself... That, or people use the Q&A topic for these things...

Well, this episode kinda disappointed me, but intrigued me a bit, for some reason.

The animation for Misa was kinda off, I felt. Especially the last scene, which I didn't like. The animators really dropped the ball on that one, as has been discussed by other people.

Actually, the animation for Light was a bit weird, too. It's like he wasn't really moving as much, but the art for him was better and more true to the manga. This further backs up my suspicion that they've shown Light's face differently because the art style Obata uses is difficult to animate; it's give or take, apparently.

Anyway, I felt like he actually looked handsome and "cool" in this episode, especially in the scene where they watched the second Kira's response, but at the same time stiff and almost like a model, because of that. Well, that was my observation.

Misa's voice indeed became annoying. I was hoping it wouldn't be, despite last episode's end, but yeah. On an unimportant note, I still can't believe Aya Hirano is actually a couple months younger than me. Freaky.

Out of desire for cool Death Note aesthetics, I pray for a new OP/ED... yeah, too bad it's IMO very unlikely.

If I'm getting this right from this episode, to kill a Death God, that Death God would need to fall in love with a human, and the Death God to use the Death Note to save that human. Of course the sad part being, it kind of spoils one, maybe believing that should the time hopefully come when Kira meets checkmate, and Kira pleads to his Death God saying:

"Ryuk, this is it man. Checkmate. The end. End game man. If there's anything you can do to get me out of this, now's the time to point it out."

"Well there's that. And you know how I feel about that."

"I'll give you a apple."

"No way. The other Shinigami may be hard gay, but not I. And the chances of doing it even if you even gave me a thousand apples, say five percent, ...not going to happen."

"Then what about twenty thousand apples?"

Haha! Light is so going to kill Misa, can't wait for it to happen. But, what will happen if he does it? Humans don't get extra life for killing other humans, but they can get it from death gods. Maybe Light would get extra life for killing another death note using human? Or maybe he could get her death god eyes for free? It might become a double or triple victory if Light manages to kill her.

After I watched this episode, I thought Misa is pretty dumb for revealing some info on TV. Right now I guess, Light's main objective is to meet Misa in secret.

Speaking of life span...

Misa unintentionally killed a Death God = her life span increases.
Misa got the eyes of a Death God = her life span is cut by half.
So can we safely assume that her life span didn't change at all?

^ no because if lets say she was expected to live for 50 years...the death god give her 100 years making a total of 150...cut that in half and you get 75 ~ which is 25 years more than expected...so its a win win situation for misa ;)

True but she didn't know that she had received those 100 years before making the contract for the eyes.

She discovered it when the shinigami told here about the death of a death god.

That's one reason because she's a dummy...

This is how it feels when you've read the manga and other people haven't. @_@ I want to see the looks on your faces in upcoming episodes. :P
I think when the anime is odne it will be better than the manga, I already like it much more.
