I didn't go to Anime North, btw when is it again?
I did go close to the end of August to the Anime/Sci-Fi/Comics convention at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. It was also my first time to such a convention. I loved the Cosplay Contest that they had on the second day.
There is a one day anime convention at the MTCC this Sunday(9th of November). here is more info abot it: http://www.canadiannationalexpo.com/torontomain.html

All languages are based on arbitrary rules, to say that one way to spell a word is incorrect is only based on the current consensus. Soon, such taboo words as "ain't" will be offically accpeted into english grammer, if it hasn't been already, and just as many other words will die out and never be used again, except only by etymologists.

One big advantage about Holland, we hardly dub things (except for cartoons, those used to be subbed when I was about 8 years old, but most of them are dubbed nowadays). I used to watch LOTS of TV, and had only English software on my PC, so I knew some basic English before I got it at school (guess this goes for most of the dutchies at this forum). Anyway, it's pretty common (if not, standard) over here to get English lessons when you're about 11, and you keep on getting lessons for about 6-9 years (depending on which school you attend).

I also noticed that a whole lot of people who have English as their native language don't seem to care much about spelling (or grammar), while other non-native English speakers try to keep their posts as correct as possible, spelling and grammar wise.

/me suggests user rating based on spelling and grammar :D

p3psi
2003-11-08, 17:34
tis true, i dont give a crap about speeling and grammmer cuz me from american

Grade school teaches spelling, then grammer, and then we do a book report every month. then we must take 4 years of english in high school and at least 1 year in college for non english majors. now these 4-5 years are not to learn the english as a language, but to torture you with reading old books, novels, and doing 50 hours of research and write 10000 words essays on them and to be creative, articulate, and verbose as you can.

Most americans with at least a highschool educations can be formal and write with correct spelling and grammar, but this isnt a F#*$ing essay, its just posting messages on an anime forum :heh:

Native English speakers who can't seem to grasp the nuances of the language suffer from LOLCSL33T syndrome. This syndrome is prevalent in Youths aged 12-16 (though studies have shown cases ranging all the way to age 32) and is closely linked to online recreations such as Counter Strike, or Yahoo battleship.

p3psi: I get your point (as a matter of fact, a lot of Dutch people write in crappy Dutch on Dutch forums), but maybe I'm pointing this out because English forums are, next to a form of entertainment, a way to practice and improve my English. Ahh, maybe I'm just whining :p

Again, the Dutch educational system is different from the American system (or most other educational systems). We learn Dutch for about 10 years. Mainly grammar and spelling for the first 6 years, and writing reports, letters and essays after that. (and I still make mistakes :heh: )

Well, you're not wrong after all.
Brazil have criminals, I won't lie to you. But it's not a Colombia. And nor it's just soccer, jungle and poor people (don't take this as a criticism, it's not your guys fault this is Brazil's steryotype). But don't be afraid, there are a lot of good people here, it's just that (unfortanely) the criminals reign over the innocent people. Don't be afraid again, cause criminals just reign in the very poor areas, far away from the cities. They concentrate in the poor areas. How can I explain to you?... well, a wonderful country, just stay away from the very poor areas, and you'll have a great time here. If anyone comes here, a good location is São Paulo, Curitiba.
Brazil is a very developped country in technology, medicine and other areas. Probably the most developped country of the 3rd world. It's a good place too live, not as peaceful as the USA, but the people here are warmer IMO. And the girls are much more beutiful :naughty:

My daddy was a travelling man (Royal Airforce :D) so we bounced around a bunch..

I was born in Forres, Scotland.
I learnt how to talk while living in Bodmin, England. (Cornwall)
I started school in Elgin, Scotland.
I learnt how to skate in Edmonton, AB, Canada. (First words upon arrival into Canada, December '82 were "When do we go home?!" It was -30, massive piles of snow and a nasty prairie wind blowing about..)
I got to Vancouver, BC, Canada in time to not go to Expo. (Mom REFUSED to understand that it was a once in a life time thing.)
I moved to Victoria, BC, Canada for about six months to learn I hated living there. (People - Fantastic. City - Snore.)
I moved back to Vancouver and have been happy since.

I've visited lots of places around Canada and the states and had a vacation in Spain while we were living in Scotland. Travelling is fantastic, getting home even better. My heart is in the Pacific Northwest!

As for my movin history Daddy was in the US Air Force, so I've lived in Tucson, Arizona; Zweibrucken, Germany, Ramstein, Germany, Hill AFB, Utah; Hahn, Germany; Victorville, California (desert), San Bernardino, California (college) and now I'm in Newport Beach, California... on the beach.

I think I'm going to stay here. My tiny one bedroom apartment costs $1100 a month; but the weather is nearly perfect, the people are in a good mood (because they're mostly rich), there's a wide variety of ethnic groups from all over the world, and Anime Expo takes place every year here. :) I honestly don't see any reason to live anywhere else.

I was born, live (and probably die ) in Bogotá, Colombia, the most beautiful place in the world!

I know you post that last year but...
Vicious :frustrated: I hate you. I won't deny I live in one of the most dangerous countries in the world, but for example Bogotá is as dangerous as New York, and New york is probably more dangerous. Besides we have amazing places for all of you to visit, is not like they show in stupid movies like "proof of life" or that other stupid movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, like every foreigner who enters gets kidnaped, we have our shameful record of foreign kidnaps, but is not every one, and the current president is fighting really hard and my beautiful country is a little safer now. I understand that the "gringos" up in the north believe in the stereotype, but you live right next to us! I just thought you would be better informed.

Great, I'm moving down there in August to start grad school! Help me find an apartment plz :D No seriously if you could provide me with any info/links/tips about Austin (or UT Austin) please share them with me :)

I've lived in Phoenix, Arizona since 4th grade. I've gone to school at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana for the past 4 years (graduation < 20 days away!). I like Phoenix, but I HATE West Lafayette. Stupid crap city! They never fix their roads, there's nothing to do, there's only corn, cows, and crap here (but that doesn't stop me from liking Purdue). Glad my remaining time here is very short

I live in the beautiful city of Eden. Yes, the fabled city in Genesis. Alright, I don't live anywhere close to Eden, but it's a nice place to live anyways.
Oregon, USA.
Though I live in Oregon now, my home wil always be Hawai'i. That's where my family is (there and Japan), and basically where I was raised. Oregon sucks, it's raining all the time, which means I have to stay inside and watch anime......oh well.

My house is on Raptor Dr. Before you try to make any jokes about my house being next to the freeway i'd like to say this in my defense. The house is insellated, so I never hear the cars passing by.

As for the water you see, thats in the gated community. There are various signs up that restrict swimming and fishing. I don't care about it because 1.)We already have our own pool 2.)Fishing is boring 3.)If I ever wanted to go fishing for some reason I'd just go about 5-10 miles west to the Delta.

Looks like that makes 2 people on the forums in Melbourne. And as for why Malaysians are able to speak English, we were a British colony for a few hundred years, all years of primary and secondary education teach English and also half the classes are taught in English now. All years of tertiary education are taught in English as well. And more than half of the programmes on TV are American shows.

Oeh well I first lived at flora road (Azalea Park), but later I moved to a house that was nearby *don't know which street exactly* and now my dad moved again and I don't have the adress -_- But he said it was nearby, so around that area I guess :heh: I love to be in Singapore :D can't wait to go there again...

Kosova is from the Balkan area isn't it. Just learned about it in school. Hard place to live in because of the civil wars in the area.

Dallas, Texas, my own personal hell. Home of the famed "ride of death", or whatever you wanna call it. I'm really close to McKinney, and so see a lot of the "typical" Texans here in my area of Dallas.

God, I hate kickers. *bashes kickers repeatedly with stop sign*

Come to think of it: yes, it does -a bit. Due of the language barrier asian folk tend to stay more within their own boards instead of wandering out to places like this. :hmm:

I was born in Hong Kong but I moved to Canada, Toronto when i was 3. Although i went to chinese school for 9 years, i am still illterate in chinese. I can speak some chinese but often fill words I dont know with english. However, I can understand chinese rather quite well. Even though i cant say a lot of words in chinese, i know the meaning when someone else says it to me. Not because i cant prononce it but it seems that I just cant remember or something. Maybe its cuz of my poor grammer and each time I say something, mid way i realise it sounds okward and I cant finish the sentence.

He's not from Thailand; that's why it's funny. Read some of his other posts. You'll get it eventually. I think Lex is from Cali. I think.

I'm from Dallas, Texas. I'm not a kicker, I don't like coutry music, and I don't have a southern accent. Expect nothing less from a JTHM fan.
