line-per-syllable defalut set is "{\\an5\\pos($X,40)\\t($START,END,\\fry360)}" how to '9-advanced-skeleton' or '10-furigana' effect? or other effect ArchMageZeratuL 2006-12-30, 17:45 line-per-syllable is a simple karaoke effect that doesn't actually require you to write your own script. Advanced Skeleton and Furigana, on the other hand, require you to write your own Lua script and include them as a library. This requires some basic (at least) programming knowledge, but allows you to program your karaoke effects to your heart's content, enabling very advanced effects. Please see the manual for a detailed information on how to use those. Katsuyu 2007-03-06, 21:14 hi ...... can you tell me where can I find the effect files ( Lue )... ..... jfs 2007-03-06, 22:25 I'll be blunt: Write them yourself. Karaoke effects is (almost) all about showing off your skills, if you're just using someone else's effect you're missing the entire point of having an advanced effect. If you want to learn, there's several examples already included with Aegisub. It's rare for people to publish their effect scripts. The other (much more common, I think?) option is to use one of methods that don't involve direct scripting. You could for example use (http://www.malakith.net/aegiwiki/index.php?title=Adding_an_Automation_script) simple-k-replacer (http://www.malakith.net/aegiwiki/index.php?title=Simple-K-replacer_tutorial), line-per-syllable (http://www.malakith.net/aegiwiki/index.php?title=Line-Per-Syllable_tutorial) or multi-template (http://www.malakith.net/aegiwiki/index.php?title=Multi-Template_tutorial). And you'll find many good tips on making karaoke in the karaoke help thread (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=13795). Though if you insist on seeing some full-fledged complete scripts, here are some more examples (http://www.malakith.net/aegiwiki/index.php?title=Karaoke_scripts). And there is of course also other software for generating karaoke effects. Katsuyu 2007-03-07, 22:23 thanks jfs.... but I mean if any one have this files for karoake... sorry.... Sylf 2007-03-08, 02:35 Those simple-k-replacer, line-per-syllable, and multi-template are multi-purpose karaoke script. Read those wiki links that jfs posted. They explain step-by-step how to use them. Esente 2007-08-12, 03:13 Hello, I am kind of new in the typesetting area. Our group is working on Pale Cocoon (great OVA by the way) right now, and I , as the group's typesetter, is trying to drawing the important boxes on to the screen. Please take a look to get a better idea of what I am trying to explain here: http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/218/drawingoriginalij3.jpg Original frame http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/624/drawingce1.jpg With the drawing on it. In the anime, this scene includes a lot of frames moving from there to the upper-left corner, and there more boxes will appear. I try to draw a box cover the original box and then add subtitle there. My questions are: As a fansub group, should we do that, or just simply add the subtitle at the bottom of the screen? And if we could do that, what is the best way to do so? As you can see on the pics above, the way I do is working frame by frame. In each frame, I draw the box with the corresponding positions of the corners. It takes me a lot of time just to do a simple animation of 5 seconds (~100 frames). I also tried the FexTracker and the FexMovement, but it seemed that I couldn't do that correctly, or it did not give me the result I want. Would you please give me some advice? I guess my explanation may not be clear, so feel free to question me. I will try to explain more detail. xat 2007-08-12, 04:59 First: Don't use FexTracker. Especially not for a project like Pale Cocoon. Second: Upgrade. Try out the newest betas of Aegisub. I think you'll like the new drawing tools available. If you're not under any time pressure I'd go for it. When it comes to deadlines you need to draw a line somewhere though. Sans deadlines, it comes down to what you want your user base to see. Hint: Most people don't mind simple typesetting. That said, most of those I know who fansub do it to their expectations (which tend to be significantly higher) and not to the typical viewer's. Now, assuming you want to do it, you could certainly give it a shot in ASS. Note that the text there isn't sharpened; I'd make use of \be -- maybe even OverLua can help you there? Given the sheer amount of animation to the user interfaces throughout Pale Cocoon, though, I can guarantee that it would take some time to perfect. If you have access to one, an NLE with a reliable motion tracker might be better. Esente 2007-08-12, 05:12 1. I won't touch FexTracker. 2. Wow, the beta (r1458) looks nice, and yeah, the frame is not misplaced like in v1.10 any more, which also means everything I did become nothing (I based on the old frames). 3. Obviously I want to do the hard work (kind of perfectionist, you know). Drawing line frame-by-frame is only time-consuming, but not hard. However, making animation is hard, especially when I want to make the subtitles go along with the drawings. Tried \pos, and I'm not really sure I understand the releation between \pos and \an . I could get the subtitle to the right position, but then, the drawing would be somewhere else. Like I said, I'm new to typesetting, but I really love it. I want to learn more, and time is not a obstacle here. And what is NLE? jfs 2007-08-12, 06:12 NLE = Non-Linear Editor, something like Adobe AfterEffects, Sony Vegas and a bunch of other video editing tools. Even Avisynth could be an option. For Avisynth, look for the ReplaceFrame plugin, it allows you to easily export a large number of frames as eg. PNG files, edit them in eg. Photoshop and then have them imported back into the video. I would also recommend looking at a non-ASS-based solution if you want to do advanced overlay graphics like that, it's just way more work than it's worth, when better tools are available. Esente 2007-08-12, 17:27 Then it will become hard-sub, right? We only want to do soft-sub. I saw in one topic that there is a tool to convert image to ASS commands. I may want to give it a try! xat 2007-08-12, 17:35 When it comes to typesetting like this (usage of drawings/clips/animated text) you don't want to subject your users to rendering it. That image to ass program does a 1:1 translation from pixel to ass (last I saw of its discussion) -- definitely not practical especially if you're working frame by frame. Overlays are probably the way to go here. jfs 2007-08-12, 20:18 Yes, apart from the softsubs ending up being huge they will also be insanely slow to render, many current top-level machines might have trouble rendering it in real time. If you want 100% soft typesetting you also will have to cut some corners and sacrifice some prettyness. Esente 2007-08-12, 21:32 Sorry for being ignorant, but yeah, I only want to do some of the animations of Pale Cocoon. About 10, I believe. I finished drawing 3 of them, and the ass file is only 56KB. Is it big? Um.. I'm not expecting prettiness in my soft-sub. I only want to draw boxes so that it look better than placing the subtitle at the bottom. For the above screenshots, here are my commands: {\be1\p1}m 212 196 l 309 305 l 274 358 l 180 240 l 212 197{\p0} The style I use for this has alignment of 7. And then I add the subtitle: {\frz-42\pos(199,238)}Dai Duong I use a different style, and the current alignment is 1 so that the subtitle appears exact at the pos(). But if I do this way, every frame will have two lines, one for drawing, and one for subtitle. It would take double time. Is there anyway I can combine those two lines together? I tried, but the sub and the drawing will appear unexpectedly. jfs 2007-08-13, 08:19 Nope, no way to combine them like that :( ArchMageZeratuL 2007-08-13, 12:49 Don't worry about having two lines per frame. VSfilter is actually faster at rendering two small lines than one big one. For drawing the overlay masks, I recommend you to look into assdraw2 (it's available somewhere on the Aegisub forums). Aegisub will eventually support drawing \p vectors in much the same way as it supports the vectorial \clip now. If all you want to do simple stuff like what's shown on your screenshot, doing it with ASS feasible and shouldn't be too slow. Otherwise, it might start becoming a problem. However, I don't recommend hardsubbing over the original japanese text, as viewers who actually speak some japanese will be bothered by it. Esente 2007-08-14, 14:29 Just wish Aegisub will intergrate AssDraw2. It's such a perfect tool for my purpose. However, i still don't understand how can I work with two separated windows. And I couldn't see the frame frome Aegisub if I draw on AssDraw2. ArchMageZeratuL 2007-08-14, 14:45 Just wish Aegisub will intergrate AssDraw2. It's such a perfect tool for my purpose. However, i still don't understand how can I work with two separated windows. And I couldn't see the frame frome Aegisub if I draw on AssDraw2. We plan to integrate something similar to it, as I said in the above post. To use Assdraw2 with Aegisub, just change the window opacity to 75% or so (it's somewhere in the menu) b0nk 2007-08-16, 05:28 Nope, no way to combine them like that :( Are you sure about that? I've done boxes soft subbed with words on top before using only one line. I don't know how to do it in Aegisub but in notepad you open the .ass file and under the styles change the Borderstyle from 1 to 3 then you simply write out the the sign and you should see a box where the outline usually is. You control the value of the size of the box with the outline or \bord values. You can then manipulate the box using the \frx|y|z commands until you get something that matches also stretch the box with the \fscx|y command. Hope this helps. jfs 2007-08-16, 07:11 Oh, right. I was thinking of a box that also had an outlined border and not just a plain box like that. (And I always forget about the opque box border style too.) Either way, you can set the style field in Aegisub, it's simply the checkbox labelled Opeque Box in the style editor. ultimaweapon 2007-08-29, 17:04 Hi, what I want to say is .... How can I gradient the color with aegisub program? or is there any program that help me with? actually, I have being died with aegisub but I couldn't know where or how can I gradient the color. so, please explain to me if you have the idea about this? or if you want my email: fzf369@hotmail.com I hope you will help me... jfs 2007-08-29, 19:20 This has been asked numerous times before. Please do some research before asking. The ASS format does not allow gradients natively. The workaround is to use lots of copies of the line with different clipping and different colouring. Aegisub does not have a function to automate this but SSATool (use Google or whatever, please) has that. Aegisub will get such a tool at some point, but we don't know when. It won't be in the near future. getfresh 2007-08-29, 19:33 This has been asked numerous times before. If you decide to do it with SSATool I suggest not clipping by color but instead clipping by hex. Just place you lines like this color 1 alpha 00 color 1 alpha 10 color 1 alpha 20 color 1 alpha 30 color 1 alpha 40 color 1 alpha 50 color 1 alpha 60 color 1 alpha 70 color 1 alpha 80 color 1 alpha 80 color 1 alpha A0 color 1 alpha B0 color 1 alpha C0 color 1 alpha D0 color 1 alpha E0 color 1 alpha F0 color 2 to get the number of clips you need just find the range the gradient will take place over. the number of pixels the range is wide is you number of clips, say the range is 250-300, means you need 50 clips. Next you take the number of clips and divide 256 by it to get the increment, i.e. 50/256= 5.12 round to nearest whole number, so 5. So that means every new clip you will decrease or increase the value by 5. exp \alpha&H00& \alpha&H05& \alpha&H0A& \alpha&H0F& and so on. I'll dig up some old working code if I can, maybe you'll find it useful. Please someone help me with that!! (notice that text is for karaoke not just is in freez position) jfs 2007-08-30, 15:19 Taking a very quick look it's only two halves in slightly different colour. Notice that there's actually a sharp transition from the start to end colour right in the middle of the line. ultimaweapon 2007-08-31, 14:11 but...how? !!! this is a vertical was not horizontal ! PLEASE GIVE ME THE RIGHT SOLUTION FOR THAT!!! Sylf 2007-08-31, 14:17 Aegisub is not the solution to everything. In case of gradience/clip creation, there's no real automated way of doing it. You'll need to learn the \clip override function for ASS, and enter it in the line. This post contains a sample code including clip. And when jfs said "it's only two halves in slightly different colour," he's saying that the line can be made with two lines -- first line that's \clipped to show the top half of the line with darker color, and the second line that's \clipped to show the bottom half. For more information about clip, read the Aegisub help file that comes with version 1 -- Help -> Contents -> Typesetting -> Ass Overide Tags, and find the section about \clip. Can someone help me ? Looks like yet another weird ATI-problem. For some reason Aegisub's OpenGL code isn't completely reliable on ATI graphics cards. Last time someone had a problem like that, changing round the graphics settings in various ways helped, even though his final settings were identical (I think) to the original ones. Jimmy C 2007-09-10, 10:54 I have 2 issues with Aegisub. First, with some h264 videos, sometimes the video plays faster than the audio. It also isn't synced when seeking. I gather this is a problem with variable frame rate? Second, it can play some videos with ac3 audio, but not others. Can anyone tell me what kind of ac3 files it has trouble with? Failing that, can anyone recommend me a coverter for changing ac3 into mp3 or something? Preferably drag-and-drop type. I'm using ffdshow for ac3 and h264 codecs. And Aegisub 1.1. I plan on getting the newest beta soon. But what I've seen on Aegisub's forum hints that these two issues may not be going away in them. Any help would be most appriciated. jfs 2007-09-10, 16:34 I assume you mean 1.10 when you say 1.1 (and not 1.01 which is from 2005.) If your video is supposed to be VFR and you aren't loading timecodes, the video and audio will probably not sync. That's just a fact. On 1.10 and earlier, unless you're using H.264 in AVI (which you should never, ever be doing) it must be in some other container, which can only be accessed through DirectShowSource which can't provide reliable seeking, that might also be a cause of the problems. Aegisub 2 pre-release versions support more different video providers and the Avisynth video provider supports loading video through more different plugins. Alternatively, with 1.10 you can create an AVS script that loads your video with eg. FFmpegSource (or whatever else works for you) and open that AVS script in Aegisub, that should provide as reliable seeking as the source filter you use. For audio, DirectShowSource is always used. This plain means that you must have a working DirectShow based splitter and decoder for the audio file installed. Often, the splitter problem can be solved by muxing the audio into an MKA (Matroska Audio, exactly the same as MKV just only containing audio) container, that'll almost always work assuming you have a Matroska splitter installed. Skyward 2007-09-10, 17:50 Loading the video through DirectShowSource shouldn't cause any more desynchronization than you would experience from seeking in your media player of choice. It should only be a couple frames off unless the source you're working with is screwy. If memory serves, h.264 in avi would cause about the same amount of desync as loading through DirectShowSource. It might be a bit more though since its such an oddball format. Jimmy C 2007-09-11, 00:01 I think I know the cause of part of the desynch problem. The videos are 29.97 fps instead of 23.98. Aegisub doesn't realise it's playing the video faster than it should be. Any recommendations? Do the newer versions deal with this? Edit: Got the latest beta version. Still the same problem. Also, I may need to learn how to get it to load different audio formats properly. It's not loading vorbis and aac is slowed. Assistance please? Solved the audio problem. Turned out to be a directory name issue. getfresh 2007-09-11, 00:24 Hi! I was wondering, is there any way to put an outer glow around text? Like a glowing border. OpeTh 2007-09-11, 05:10 I think there is no problem with your code getfresh ;) PS: I tested it and it seems to be alright. jfs 2007-09-11, 05:28 If the video framerate is wrong you have a few options: 1. Remux the video to a new container, setting the correct framerate there. 2. Create a "dummy" VFR override file that just sets the framerate, and use that. 3. Create an AVS script that loads the video and does an AssumeFPS on it, and load the video with that AVS in Aegisub. While option 3 is perhaps the easiest and fastest, it also has the problem that you can't load keyframe information directly from the video file. Option 2 is probably the most flexible one, and option 1 is the surefire way, although it takes some processing time and extra disk space. getfresh 2007-09-11, 07:18 I think there is no problem with your code getfresh ;) PS: I tested it and it seems to be alright. lol, cool. Jimmy C 2007-09-11, 10:43 If the video framerate is wrong you have a few options I'm sure the framerate is correct. Does Aegisub have any issues dealing with 29.97 fps properly? jfs 2007-09-11, 12:53 No, Aegisub should be able to handle any (reasonable) framerate, with the limitation that everything is handled as floating point numbers, so framerates that should technically be rational numbers (such as 29.97 really being 30000/1001) will introduce a small and pretty much unnoticable drift. (Unnoticable as in, you will need several hours of video before you can notice it at all.) Now you say that you are sure the framerate is correct, yet you also said earlier that Aegisub is playing it too fast. That should never happen unless the framerate really is wrong. What do you mean by "not loading vorbis"? Does it matter what container the Vorbis audio is in? Have you tried both Ogg Vorbis and Matroska Vorbis? If you get an error, what is it? And what do you mean by "aac is slowed"? Jimmy C 2007-09-11, 13:40 my mkvs with vorbis audio are mute. acc playback sounds like it is in slow mo. linkinstreet 2007-09-22, 03:10 I have some problem with my Aegisub. I'll paste it tonight when I get home from work. Another thing. I was learning using lua files, and there was this one example lua file (I think it was Mai Otome's Crystal Energy?), and there was this line that said it will change the style based on "scomments". I know that "dialouge" is the lines that you type in, so is "scomment" comment lines? because at first I thought it was like simple K where you edit it based on comment line, but it does not seem to work. I'll also post the lua tonight. jfs 2007-09-24, 06:04 No, "scomment" is "semicolon comment", lines that are commented out in the ASS file with a semicolon. Those only have plain text, not any of the fields of Dialogue lines (unlike regular Comment lines.) Also Aegisub can't edit semicolon comments directly, you have to open the file in a text editor. (Aegisub will attempt to preserve them even though they aren't displayed or editable.) In Auto4 Lua semicolon comments are class=="comment", while dialogue-style comment lines are class=="dialogue" and comment==true. linkinstreet 2007-09-24, 07:54 Here's the crash screenshot. Weird that there is NO crashlog in the appdata/aegisub folder http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/3381/crashjz2.th.jpg (http://img530.imageshack.us/my.php?image=crashjz2.jpg)http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/4365/crash2gx4.th.jpg (http://img530.imageshack.us/my.php?image=crash2gx4.jpg) And how do you load a lua script without macro in Aegisub2? Or do you have to have a macro function for it to show in the automation tab? I prefer the old 1.xx version where you can click apply http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/4899/compare1ev3.th.jpg (http://img530.imageshack.us/my.php?image=compare1ev3.jpg)http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/755/compare2xh9.th.jpg (http://img530.imageshack.us/my.php?image=compare2xh9.jpg) jfs 2007-09-24, 10:18 Macros show as macros in the Automation menu. Automation 3 script are and have always been export filters. They are available as export filters (wow!) in the Export function in the File menu. A shame Vista apparently doesn't want apps handling their own crashes. We need to figure out where it stores crash information instead then. theshadowtaker 2007-09-25, 09:22 Okay so, I finally got Audio to load in aegisub, yet the videos demand that they dont want to work. I think maybe it has something to do with VSFilter but I'm not sure. The reason for my thinking its VSFilter is this http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f389/Theshadowtaker/Aegisub2.jpg What I use to see is this, http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f389/Theshadowtaker/Aegisub1.jpg Which I don't see anymore.. Or it might be something configured in CCCP and yet again I don't know I'm a beginner trying to learn on a pentium 2 with only Windows 2000.. Here is how CCCP is configured I had a video but it was too large to upload so you only get pictures for now. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f389/Theshadowtaker/CCCP1.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f389/Theshadowtaker/CCCP2.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f389/Theshadowtaker/CCCP3.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f389/Theshadowtaker/CCCP4.jpg There it is. Totemo hontou, arigatou. jfs 2007-09-25, 12:21 First, try switching to a pre-release build of Aegisub 2. Version 1.10 is more than a year old and there's loads of changes since. It just might solve your problem. theshadowtaker 2007-09-25, 12:30 Thanks I'll try it and see what it does. Maybe I should just switch back to linux. OpeTh 2007-09-27, 14:01 I have a very strange trouble on my laptop with the last pre-release but this trouble doesn't occur on my desktop :s I installed both of them with the .exe file for Aegisub 2 (thx for that package guys ;)) and here is what happens when I launch the program on my laptop : http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/395/aegiserror3kp2.jpg Do you have any suggestions to that issue, cause I can't use the automation stuff once Aegisub is launched. jfs 2007-09-27, 15:02 While Aegisub is not running: Go to Start->Run, type "%appdata\aegisub" and select OK, open "config.dat" in Notepad and delete all lines that start with "automation". Then save the file. Things should work right now. Also "latest build" is rather inaccurate, figuring out the actual build number is very easy (it says in the title bar) and I would really appreciate if you (and anyone else) would write the exact build number instead of just "latest". OpeTh 2007-09-27, 15:29 Thanks jfs for your very quick answer, I will try that right after writing this message. Concerning the build number of the release, it is r1564, but I thought it was clear enough when I said that I installed the program with the lastest .exe file. Sorry for this imprecision, I keep this simple point in my mind for further messages ;) EDIT : It works perfectly, thank you again jfs. dragon5152 2007-09-30, 14:06 I seem to have a slight problem with karaoke that I'm doing. This problem seems present in several karaoke scripts that i've done. Here is a picture of the problem: http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/6809/problemoi5.png Thats actually not the best picture of the problem. I've fixed the overlapping syllables, but the spacing is the same. I think it might have something to do with the video being 16:9 although I'm not sure. Here is a better picture of the problem, this is after I fixed the overlapping syllables: http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/9043/problem2ju6.png If I resized the video to 4:3, the karaoke effect works fine. And I've put {\k0} before every space which I know does fix another spacing problem, I just don't know how to fix the one in the picture above. If it means anything, I'm using \pos(x,20) in the template (if I use multi-template or line-per-line syllable, same thing happens).

Thanks.

EDIT:
Fixed the problem by reading wiki. :p

I believe that's 2.0 (though I suppose you mean the build number), because I used to get similar errors, and still do. However this is on a system which couldn't even open AVI files in the 1.10 version, so... Cursed. ;_;

--Aegisub Run > [fine] > Load ASS > [fine] > Open Video > (selected) > got Error Massages.

--Aegisub Run > [fine] > Load ASS > [fine] > Use Dummy Video > (optioned) > Error Massages.
How about you tell WHAT those error messages say? Lots and lots of things can go wrong, you need to tell what error you get for anyone to be able to help you at all. (Sometimes just reading the message yourself is enough to tell what the solution would be.)

There has, for several weeks now, been a message right next to the Aegisub 2 r1564 download link which says:
There is a minor bug in this version: A wrong build of VSFilter is distributed with it, and it might not work on all systems, resulting in no subtitle display. Download and install this package (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=32bc1bee-a3f9-4c13-9c99-220b62a191ee) to correct the problem. The package required to make VSFilter work will also be required for later versions of Aegisub, but will be distributed as part of the installer then.
You need to do that on ALL Windows versions. If you aren't sure whether you have it already or not it's safe to just install it either way.

Also, there is a bug in r1564 and earlier versions where it doesn't look in the correct location for VSFilter when using it through AviSynth (the default) - usually this won't be a problem, because it will also attempt to use the system VSFilter, assuming one is installed. If you do not have VSFilter registered as a DirectShow filter, Aegisub might not be able to find it at all. The workaround is to put a copy of VSFilter.dll into the same folder as Aegisub.exe - there has to be one in both that folder and in the "csri" subfolder.
This will be fixed in the next build.

And note that r1564 says "1560" in its title bar, this is a minor glitch and doesn't mean anything, it is 1564 despite this.

Hey, I had a quick question regarding scene-timing in Aegisub that you guys might be able to answer.

When I load certain videos (XviD) sometimes the scenes won't appear, making it impossible to scene-time.
This only happens with certain raws, and not all but the ones I have experienced were with XviD.

Is there a way to force Aegisub to detect scene changes?
Do I have to re-encode the vid?

Thanks,

HG

Aegisub can unfortunately not read keyframa data from AVI files that only have OpenDML indexes. This will change in a later version, but probably not as one of the first things.
If you re-write the file with VirtualDub (just use direct stream copy on both video and audio) you should get a file Aegisub can use, assuming it's smaller than 2 GB.

I have another quesiton about Aegisub's Unicode support. I tried to use Vietnamese keyboard to type in Aegisub, but the character will disappear whenever I use a special character, like á, à, ả, ã, â,...

Is it me or it a bug?

jfs

Try in Options -> Subtitle Edit Box, to change the font used for it. It might simply be because the font you use doesn't support the character and can't display it.
Only guessing here.

@jfs:
I used usual Unicode fonts from Windows, such as Arial, Times New Roman. The fonts are displayed fine on other applications.

For example, I type "a" then press "1" on the keyboard to get "á". However, when I do the same thing in Aegisub, the "a" will disappear.

Use $lstart,$lend - a lowercase L before the name.
Note that in pre-line templates, $start,$end etc. already refer to the line, since there's no "current syllable" there.

@Essente: Ok I'm clueless then.
I assume you use a current pre-release version?

I had a similar problem. Try uninstalling the Visual C++ runtime completely through add/remove programs, then reinstall, making sure you're using SP1.

I need some help with timing in Aegisub though. Not a huge problem, but an annoying one, and probably something simple I've overlooked. Roughly every second line I time, when I commit it, Aegisub will move the end time, usually making the line 2 or 3 seconds longer. And it'll sometimes do it a couple of times in a row when I try to correct it. It doesn't seem to be snapping to a keyframe or anything like that. What am I doing wrong? :twitch:

Pie Pants: I think you need to make a detailed description of what you're doing. Exactly what you're clicking on and what buttons you press on the keyboard.

Well it's mostly a problem during rough timing where I basically click the start and end of the line on the audio bar, check by pressing space, then copy & paste the line from the script and either press enter or click on Commit. When I commit it, the time (almost always the end time) will go forward by anywhere between 200 and 1000ms.

I'm starting to think it may be related to the raws though, because it just started suddenly doing it, and apparently a script I've just timed has huge timing misses. I just rechecked my local copy of the script and there are no timing misses at all, which leads me to believe that the timing has gone out during editing/TC.

Is there a way to automatically match styles to the actor in aegisub?

jfs
2007-11-23, 15:36
Well not directly, but you can do this:

1. Use Select Lines to select all lines with a specific actor
2. Change the style for those lines
3. Repeat for all relevant actor/style pairs

You can also use the Styling Assistant, but it doesn't do style/actor matching automatically.

Just looking through this thread, I'd suggest to use After-Effects to typeset. And if anyone wants me to write up a simple jsx to dump AFX's positions, angular [3D angles are quite different in AFX - I haven't formulated how it can be related], and sizes values and their related keyframes to .ass commands, I can work on it... It will be quite simple to code. (except for parenting since I have to multiply and add values heh - but that's not a problem) I haven't seen any SSA tools performing just as well as AFX's interface at all.

You can use different blend mode to match them manually or, alternatively, you can use the crappy AFX's motion tracking - which I don't suggest anyone to use if you want 100% accuracies.

And I do wish that aegisub offers the same functionality in positionings, resizings, and rotatings (with nesting capabilities) as after-effects; it will make lives a lot easier. If not, we can use afx for typesetting, and for old-timers, it's possible to convert those values to .ass commands.

Actually I like this idea. I already do half my typesetting there anyway. It would streamline my work path quite eaisly.

Would this just hardsub or will it convert back to assa. If not it gives more reason to use the mp4 container to retain hardware compatiblity.

First, make sure the framerate is correct.

If you're using a "120 fps" raw, you have to decimate it by 5 to get regular 23.976 fps video.

Then, you need to select a compressor, that'd usually be Xvid. Install it if you don't have it.
As you already noticed, uncompressed video is absurdly huge.

I don't know if this is the proper place to ask. I've done the typesetting for a movie and in Aegisub everything seems fine - fine meaning that the subtitles are two lines maximum. But when I mux it in an MKV and play it on MPC, I notice that the lines are sometimes 3 lines long. Which is really strange. Don't know if anyone else has had this issue before... Any help appreciated.

Is it anamorphic?
Are you using MPC's internal renderer or external VSFilter?

raziel666
2007-12-05, 10:03
I think I corrected it. Indeed it was anamorphic, but I searched this place and found out that you had already pointed out that the script resolution should be set to the non-anamorphic, as well as the softsubs.

Maybe the rest is offtopic:
In my computer I've disabled VSFilter and I use MPC's subtitle renderer, I think it gives better subtitle quality. But I noticed that it gets loaded after the video is gets its anamorphic resize and the subs look stretched (if they are set to something else than ResX/ResY 100%). Is there some way to change this?

Indeed with the default settings it usually gives you slightly better-looking subtitles, especially noticeable on SD resolution stuff. The reason is that while VSFilter is implemented as a Directshow filter that inserts itself right after the video decoder (and hence draws at the video frame resolution) MPC's renderer is a part of the video renderer and draws AFTER video rendering, meaning that it's theoretical maximum subtitle rendering resolution is your desktop resolution (by default the texture resolution is limited to 800x600 though, but that's still better than 480p). The fact that it draws after rendering is also the cause for the subtitle stretching you've noticed. Most people who do proper anamorphic releases follow the informal Darkhold/CCCP "standard" (created back in 2003 or so when certain DVD-rip groups first started doing anamorphic releases with styled ASS/SSA subtitles) which means that you assume that the watcher will be using VSFilter and hence all subtitles will be rendered BEFORE the anamorphic stretching occurs; to compensate for that you set the ScaleX or ScaleY style parameter to some non-zero value to compensate for that (or the subs would look stretched). Another issue that occasionally pops up with MPC's internal renderer is the one in the thread martino linked above (soft typesetting breaks because MPC by default renders relative to the screen edges and not relative to the frame edges). The proposed AS5 standard has a parameter that is supposed to solve this ambiguity once and for all, but God knows when it's actually going to be implemented. Yet another problem with MPC's renderer is that it has subpicture buffering enabled by default, which breaks fades and other animations as well as soft karaoke. It's also slower than VSFilter.

To summarize: if you want to be compatible with the standard that most people (most CCCP users, for example) actually use, you should use VSFilter. If you want better quality subtitles and have CPU power to spare, you can upscale the video with ffdshow before subtitle rendering (or enable resolution doubling in VSFilter).

Hi!

I have a question also regarding subtitle quality, but it doesn't seem to be directly related.

Anyway, I wanted to ask if there's anything I could do to improve the quality of this (hardsub) karaoke. If there's an avisynth filter that works on the sub, that's great too.

The subs look fine in Aegisub, but once I render them with avisynth... blech. (not including encoding - I just preview the script) Shouldn't they look the same as they look in Aegisub?

I have a 640*480 screenshot (http://img364.imageshack.us/img364/135/crapkarahy2.png) (it's less visible here) and a 1280*1024 screenshot at fileflyer (1.21 MB PNG) (http://www.fileflyer.com/view/MceAQCx)

Is there nothing I can do about this? Is this similar to what happens when you have red text on a blue background and save it as a mspaint-quality JPG?

Sylf

For one thing, use bigger and thicker font. That should help slightly. And these video handlers can't handle high-contrast combination of red and black well. Maybe use darker red for the fill. Maybe change the border color to something else.

pichu
2007-12-07, 12:12
Somehow I hate to use color red in subtitles, as the encodes in YV12 colorspace will have problems with reds more than any other colors.

You should try to tint your red with a bit of blue or green to reduce color bleeding in red (i.e., gear your hue away from red).

MasterKommander

well here is a really simplified explanation:

1. First time the whole line
2. After that is done, while staying on that line press the karaoke button. if you look at the audio view, your timed line has been marked for every word.
3. From there you just time each word.

Once you get that down, you can go as far as spliting up every syllable, then later one once you have mastered all of that you can try adding effects.

It seems as though you do not have a very good understanding of timing, so try watching these videos first. They are kind of old but at least you will have a basic understanding of timing, once you have the basics down then try doing your karaoke.

I think you mean render the subs.
You use some encoding software if you want to hardsub.
You can also go for softsubs, in which case you only need to mux the subtitles along with the video into an MKV file.

Both things have been discussed numerous times already, just search the forum.

That's proposed in the AS5 format, but 4 as is right now does not support it. A workaround might be rotating and positioning each character/syllable manually *ugh*.

Other than this AE can curve text quite easily.

Hopefully you can help me with this. I've searched far and wide for this, but nothing is helping. What I'm trying to do is make a note box appear as a semi-dark transparent color to a bit darker transparent box with text overlaying on top of it. No matter how hard I try, it only appears as a solid box t.t

Here's what I have written for the code at the moment:
{\move(275,-50,275,60,0,600)}{\1a&E0&}{\t(0,500,\1a&80&)}{\p1}m 65 40 l 65 100 450 100 450 40{\p0}

Here is an example of what I'm trying to achieve as the final product (although, not so fancy just the transparent effect):

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I want to finish this by today and send it off for encoding.

{\1a&E0&}
{\t(0,500,\1a&80&)}
You're missing a letter "H" after the initial ampasands in those alpha level codes. Like {\1a&HE0&}. The transparency code in decimal isn't guaranteed to work. It's better to get in the habit of writing it in hexadecimal, and use upper case "H" too.

Yes, I'm a n00b, but I'm trying to subtitle this concert video and it's really frustrating because every time I do a line and click on the next I have to randomly scroll through 2 hours of video trying to find my place, because it jumps back to the beginning. I have like 4 lines done because of this. LOL

Any suggestions?

I wish there was a way to just "punch in" subtitles on the fly with the video playing. Like hit key "A", to start line" hit key "B" to end line, autoadvance to next line, repeat.

I'm a musician so I have the timing, and Hyde's not gonna overlap himself singing any time soon.

Oh and I'm using 1.10. By the time I found out there were newer versions I'd already started and now I'm afraid to upgrade.

You shouldn't have any reason why to fear upgrading. The 2 alpha releases are fully compliant with ASS, the same that 1.10 used, so really, there's no reason apart from the fact that the alpha versions are well, not yet "stable". However personally I haven't gotten a single crash lately with the latest release...

As mentioned, use 2.1.0, it actually has less problems than 1.10 does.

Anyway the solution to your problem is to turn off autoscrolling. This is done by clicking the green button to the right of the pause button below the video area, so it turns red. You can do the same with the audio, it's button number 17 in this screenshot: http://aegisub.cellosoft.com/docs/Audio#The_main_audio_view

I've been doing it by watching the video and hitting the buttons that start and end the line in synch with the current frame of video.

I have some other questions but I'm going to try to round them up in my head first.

On an off-topic note, is there a way to find out if what I'm subbing has already been done? I'd hate to reinvent the wheel. I'm doing Hyde's Faith Live DVD (disc 1)

I'm 3 songs in after about 2 hours of work and learning. I'm hoping to turn it into a DVD compatible subtitle file so people can reburn the DVD with the subs.

The ASS format doesn't support that directly. Your only option is to write a script that calculates the motion, either frame by frame or in "sections". Then generate a line for each frame or section.
I've done this a few times in various karaokes, using both techniques.

Yes, this requires programming and will probably take a significant amount of time. I think I have an example buried somewhere deep inside the karaoke help thread.

I would like to know the opposite, how do you make it not work?

I will assume you use Windows.

Make sure you have installed the support for East-asian languages that comes with Windows. It generally makes East-asian languages better supported in applications.

Also make sure you use a font that supports the characters you need.
If the Japanese text shows up in the editor but not in the rendered subtitles, you might need to change the Encoding field of your style.

Impossible to tell from the error itself.
You need to post the crashlog (Start->Run "%appdata%\aegisub\crashlog.txt") for anyone to have a chance to diagnose the problem.

Most likely, however, is that it's related to audio. Either playing it (try opening just an audio file in the Audio menu and play that!!) or decoding it from the video file (try Open Audio from Video in the Audio menu.)

Ok, that really doesn't tell much at all :(

I don't even see why it should be in DllUnregisterServer anywhere... but it could sound like some b0rked DierctShow component, since DllUnregisterServer is a COM thing, and DShow is just about the only COM thing used in Aegisub. (And even only indirectly in this case, through Avisynth.)

Try loading a PCM (uncompressed) WAV file from the Audio menu instead of a compressed format. That should work.

Do note that the person in question didn't actually load audio prior to trying to play video/audio.
Which means the problem is a known (http://bugs.aegisub.net/view.php?id=616) bug (http://bugs.aegisub.net/view.php?id=589) or at least a known misfeature (http://bugs.aegisub.net/view.php?id=626).

To solve, load audio before playing video. Or don't play video in Aegisub at all, I've never needed that feature ever.

jfs
2008-06-12, 15:47
I already tried to upload the audio only..
But I still get the same error message =[

I understand that as "I already tried to load just audio". So it's not related to playing audio from video.

Sorry about double post, this is quite unrelated to the previous one so I think it deserves a new one.

I made (on request, see below) a program to diagnose the "Unable to open AVI file for reading keyframes" problem. It basically does the same thing Aegisub does when opening an AVI file for reading keyframes, but it shows a lot more information about what it's doing.

I write that I made this program on request, but that doesn't mean I will do anything on request ;)
See the original thread on the Aegisub forum (http://malakith.net/aegisub/index.php?topic=1144.0) that prompted this. It was a sane request and a simple job so I did it.

This program should be mostly self-explanatory but if you have the problem and can't figure out how to interpret the output, feel free to ask about it. (Not in PM.)

excuse me, i download an anime movie

im trying to Convert it into a DVD but when i test it with a media player, the font looks so huge.

so i went into Aegisub and i think the font is for 1280 x 720 and i was wondering on how to make it for 740 x 480

Read the manual. Seriously, read it. Or even just look around in the program, go on a treasure hunt in the menus, it's not dangerous. There's no giant enemy crabs in here.

But you want to check the script resolution (File->Properties), it should match the video resolution.
Then check the styles (Subtitles->Style Manager) and adjust their font size as needed.

I've just ventured into the wonderous realm of Automator 4 and what I'm trying to do is get an effect (in this case alpha) to change the character from full opacity to full transparency 800 miliseconds after the syllable has been sung.
Unfortunately, my ways of doing this in Automator 3 no longer apply, apparently.

What I've been doing is {\t($end,$end+800,\alpha&HEF&}

What it does now is as soon as the end of the syllable comes up it cuts to full transparent immediately. What do I need to fix to get this to work?

{\r\$kdur\a6\3c&H9B9B9B&\fnAustralian Sunrise\fs18\bord1\shad0}{\t($start,$mid,\fs28\bor d3\c&H000099&)\t($mid,$end,\fs24\bord2\2c&H171717&}{\t($end,$end+800,\alpha&HEF&} TheFluff 2008-06-29, 21:58 worng:$end+800
right:
!$end+800!$-variables can be used anywhere, but all calculations must be enclosed in !! (used to be %% in automation 3) or they will not be evaluated as Lua expressions.

What happens with your current code is that (if we assume that $end is 500) \t($end,$end+800) gets expanded to the literal string \t(500,500+800) and since VSFilter doesn't do any arithmetic calculations on the override tag arguments itself, it will most likely just call one of the C standard functions atof() or atoi() on each of the two first \t arguments. This in turn happily reads "500" in the first case, reads "500" again in the second and then skips all the garbage that doesn't look like it's part of the number at the end of the string (that is, everything after and including the + sign). In other words your current code will generate output that is interpreted as \t($end,$end) which is obviously not what you want. You could have figured out the solution to this problem pretty quick if you had bothered to look closer at the generated output. End of tl;dr. Takeru 2008-06-29, 22:29 worng:$end+800

Hi ya,
I'm wondering if the VSfilter.dll that we can find here (http://www.animereactor.dk/aegisub/vsfilter-2.38-clipfix-faxfay-csri.rar) is the one used in the last version of aegisub (i.e. v2.1.2, SVN r1987).
Can anyone tell me if I should replace the VSfilter.dll in the Aegisub's folder with the one in the archive ?

Hi,
Not sure if this is the correct place to post but here we go...

I'm loading an already subbed (hardsubbed) avi file into Aegisub.
What I want to do is scroll through by the frame and re-type everything, so essentially I will have a copy of the script.
The reason for this is because I want to apply the subs to actual DVD's, so all I really need to do is take the finished re-typed script and mass re-time them.
Now, the problem is that the finished script isn't accurate to the frame. I have no idea why this is but at the moment I;m having to re-time to for the DVD version, and then go over each line again to make sure there is no scene bleed.
I was hoping someone would be able to give some advice as to why it isn;t accurately timing to the scene in the first place. I've tried creating an avs script for the avi but when I try to load it comes up with an error saying;
"AVISource autodetect: couldn't open file 'myfile.avi'
Error code 2"

Any ideas?

I dont know if i got you point 100%, but is it natural that the szenchange frames of two video files with other raws dont match each other.

So first do some Lossless Export of ure DVD, important deintelace or remove telecining on this step(best way is to have all filters and the final resoultion in at this step), if you have to change deinterlacing later you may have to do all the work againe.

Then encode a Workraw forme the Lossless, to time.

Keep the Loosless Export and use the Loosless Export for each encode until youre finale encode.

Try to avoid Directshowsource, because its not frame stable... so i would say you use Lagarit or Huffyuv for ll and not a near lossless h264 encode.

Error Code 2, what video codec is used in the avi container ?

blinx01

I guess I didn't make my point clear enough.

1. Load already subbed avi file in Aegisub, scroll through by the frame, copy timing and type text in. End result near identical script.

2. Demux video from DVD. Make an avs script for it. Load in Aegisub. Take script from before, mass re-time using a scene change.

Now, problem is that it doesn't sync up correctly. Obviously while timing and typing the script, it wasn't accurate to the frame meaning I then have to go through each line again and make sure there's no scene bleed etc.
I tried making an avs script for the avi but it came up with that error I stated. No idea what codec was used. It's the early eps of D.Gray-Man from SHS I'm wokring with.

max2k
2008-07-15, 09:05
You know that you can only typ to frame, so the trick is use some light under timing at the start of typset (20-30ms) and overtime at the end (20-30ms)? But the Scenebleding has to be some think other, best way is to encode a workraw with packetbitstream...

Could u get mediainfo from http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/de and read out the SHS encode. It could be a h264(but i think no SHS encoder would do this) encode in avi or i can rember reading about some bug with Divx encodes and AVISource, that you only get with the right resolution and Color Space combination. Are you sure to have the right path and name of the avi in your Script ?

Try to import the avi without the avisynth script and reencode it. Then use the Reencode with ure script. Or try Directshowsource() and reencode so you get rid of fram shifting.

2. Demux video from DVD. Make an avs script for it. Load in Aegisub. Take script from before, mass re-time using a scene change.

Now since the DVD Video footage isn't the same as the raw footage SHS used, it's obviously off.

Don't know if this will help you, but can't you shift the times? They should be okay to read. Of course scene bleeds will occur, but you can use the timing post-processor and set the frame number for key snapping to maybe 2. That should work...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/vulcanraven01/th_graymanmediainfo.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/vulcanraven01/graymanmediainfo.jpg)

To the above poster, I've worked with subbing many DVD's before. The footage is the same as the TV version. That's not the problem so just ignore the fact I mentioned DVD.
The problem is that I'm trying to retype a script but it would seem when I load the already subbed avi file in AegiSub, it's not accurate to the frame meaning I end up having a flawed script which I then have to go through line by line correcting.
What I'm asking is if there is a way to ensure the avi I load is accurate to the frame.

Ok, need some help. I was recommended Aegisub a few months ago here on this site. I've finally got around to using it and it does exactly what I need. However, I have a few questions:

- When editing the existing subtitles of a particular episode I will load the episode into Aegisub and then make the corrections. When I'm finished I'll save this new corrected subtitle file. Let's call it "01 Corrected" being that I save it as that. I'll then use the MKVtoolnix to mux everything back together. Now I have my episode with all of its original files and my corrected subtitle file. I'll then open the episode, right-click the VSFilter icon on my task bar and select the corrected subtitle file. In this case it will be titled something like "S:Undetermined" and be at the bottom. I'm wondering if there is any way to change that to a title of my choice? For example, "S:01 Corrected." Or am I stuck with "S:Undetermined."

- Finally, some of my videos contain both the English dub and Japanese dub. Of course it also has an English subtitle file. Let's say one of my episodes opens with the Japanese dub and the default English subtitle file by default. However, I would like it to open with the Japanese dub and my corrected subtitle file, is there anyway I can do this?

Thanks!

Pass --language "<trackno>:<language code>" --track-name "<trackno>:<description>" --default-track <trackno>:yes as arguments to mkvmerge. Users can specify their own preferences in players though, e.g. Japanese dub over English dub or Korean subtitles over Chinese, etc.

If you're using the GUI: drop the files you want to include on it, then click your new subtitle track and just type in the track name, select a language and under "default track flag" select "yes". Then, click the original track and set default track flag to "no". This determines which track is the default, if you have two or more of the same type (video, audio, subtitles).

You could also just untick the original track and use your corrected one instead, if you were so inclined.

I hope you can help me with a mysterious timing problem. If I try scenetiming with aegisub with one special workraw (other files were working correctly) the keyframes kinda change. I mean they are actually at the same time, but the video changes. One time its exactly on the beginning of the scene but if I look back a little later its often one frame before or after the scenechange. And this jumps forwards and backwards each time I try. So I try to scenetime to see later that everything is out of scenes...
Please help me to find out what's causing this problem. Because I'm really in doubt about the condition of my mind ;)
BTW... its not the aegisub version or my computer, I tried different versions on different PC's - its the same.

in case it helps, here are the gspot settings of this workraw file:

The file has B-frames. Try a file without B-frames.
The AVI container was never designed to hold video formats that use B-frames, therefore it can't handle it entirely correct, and it can cause problems like that.

Well, your ideal workraw is without b-frames and unpacked. Packed just makes sure that there won't be any trouble, like you had, when you have b-frames. Otherwise I don't know what's supposed to be bad about it.

I have a question:
Could you tell me the karaoke script that make each letter in a syllable flys in each directions? For example: the word "Snow", "Snow" gets dark and then: "S" flies down, "n" flies up,"o" flies left, "w" flies right... Give me scripts in *.lua (not all, just syllable effect) so that I can use Automation (faster) ^^
If in this thread someone has already explained this, please give me the link to that answer. Thanx

What do you mean by the script? You know, there isn't just one way, there's pretty much an infinite number of different ways to do that.

If you're using Karaoke Templater, make sure you're using 'syl' templates, then just stick 'char' onto the modifier list in the Effect field. Such that you have something like: template syl char
That makes is treat each character as a "virtual syllable", but never mind that. It means that if you eg. stick a random function into a \move on that template, each character will get its own value instead of just each syllable.
Try it.

Controls how outline and shadow widths are drawn. If disabled, they are given in video resolution pixels (meaning that using the script with a higher resolution video will make all borders/shadows look thinner). If enabled, they are given in script resolution pixels instead (meaning that outlines and shadows will look the same no matter the resolution). The latter is usually what you want.

jfs
2008-08-18, 09:02
You only see the difference ScaledBorderAndShadow makes when the script resolution is different from the rendering (video) resolution. For example, if you use the same subtitle file to hardsub on a 1280x720 and on a 640x360 video, or if you view softsubs with the MPC built-in renderer.

I see. But what is the script resolution? Isn't it the one you usually match with the video resolution? So if the resolution is the same, is the difference noticeable?

Well there is also the "Banner" effect that goes in the Effect field, just Aegisub doesn't have any GUI for that. (You can look it up in the old/traditional ASS and SSA format docs, we're mostly trying to ignore that function over here ;))

2008-09-02, 02:42
Ran into a bizarre bug while working on a friend's file.

She was exporting to SSA format in preparation for Captions Inc timecode ramping (ugh, my kingdom for a native ASS timecode feature... or better yet, a DVD sub export function with timecode!) She'd left it set on US-ASCII instead of UTF-8. When her files finished exporting, something like half the lines weren't in the exported file! Kind of random which ones were and weren't included, too. She wasn't doing anything outrageous with the character set (just English letters, numbers, and punctuation), so it's not that.

Changing the setting to UTF-8 allowed her to export a "proper" SSA file.

Probably not important - I set mine to UTF-8 back when I was first configuring the box, and haven't had any problems or reason to mess with it since. Was just curious. Went to look at the bug tracker, but it seems to be down? (Or rather, it only has a picture of a kappa...)

jfs
2008-09-02, 04:13
Hmm that sounds pretty weird... most likely some kind of bug yes. The bugtracker address is bugs.aegisub.net btw., and I just checked that it works.

Oh, and don't use US-ASCII for any purpose. If you really need a single-byte character set for English text just use ISO 8859-15 or Windows 1252, as those actually define most of the commonly used special and accented characters used in western European languages too. US-ASCII is limited to 7 bit code.
(Still, lines that can't be exactly represented shouldn't disappear. And if they can be represented they most certainly shouldn't disappear!)

That's the unfortunate side-effect of the fix for the "fade to black" bug in VSFilter, as it's called by some. It can also be called "using \fad or other draws the border colour behind the fill colour during fades unless \1a or \2a are non-zero". Unfortunately the fix causes those seams you can see... I'm not entirely sure why but I can't bother trying to figure out it.
The fix for your problem is either to use an older version of VSFilter without that bugfix (which means you'll also lose the new features added) or to use some ugly hack to emulate the old behaviour. I can't think of a good way off the top of my head, though.

Simple code I use as my base effect (the outline grow and flash effect): {\3a&HAA&\shad0\pos($x,$y)\t($start,$mid,\bord3\3a&H55&\3c&HE9C2C3&)\t($mid,$end,\bord2\3a&H00&\3c&H584545&} Although it usually doesn't take too much time to manually fix the overlapping syllables for a couple of layers, I'd rather not have to do this every time I create a new one, especially if later on I do more complex effects with a lot of layers. When I did the OP for Clannad AS, I didn't have the syllable overlapping problem, and I think really the only difference besides the fonts of course was that I was working with a 640x480 video raw. Here's the one for Negima Ala Alba 1 that I'm working on. Note that this is an anamorphic source with Override Aspect Ratio set at Default (setting it to Widescreen will make the text show the correct horizontal and vertical sizes), and yes, the overlap problem shows in either mode I'm displaying. Overlap issue occurs in usual 704x396 cases as well. Original: http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/394/negimaoad1originalik5.th.png (http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/394/negimaoad1originalik5.png) Overlapping: http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/1240/negimaoad1overlapdi0.th.png (http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/1240/negimaoad1overlapdi0.png) Notice how the first "t" in "kitto" is layering on top of the previous syllable. jfs 2008-12-14, 00:22 I think your problem is two-part. First, there's the problem of outlines overlapping the fill. When the outlines are thick enough (that is, bigger than 2 or 3 pixels) they'll often end up overlapping other nearby syllables. This happens because the syllables are on their own line so they're rendered as separate "objects" and have the outlines applied separately, instead of "joined" as it is when everything is rendered by a single line. The solution is really rather simple: Put the outline in a separate layer. That is, make one template line containing the effects on the outline (but it should probably have the fill hidden by \1a&HFF&) and make that template Layer 0. Then make another template which has no outline (by \bord0) and put the effects on the fill in that template, and make sure it has Layer 1. (You can of course use other layer numberings as long as the fill has a higher layer number than the outline. If you want shadow too, put that in yet another layer below the border.) When you do the outline and fill in separate layers like this you should avoid outlines overlapping fills. The second thing is that you really need to use sub-pixel positioning. The$x and $y variables (and their family) only contain whole-pixel precision, but VSFilter handles up to 1/8 pixel precision and all modern versions of VSFilter can take floating-point coordinates in \pos and \move. Usually you can get away with using$y for the vertical position, but it's $x that's problematic. Instead of$x, try this: !line.left+syl.center!
That'll only work with \an5, \an2 and \an8 btw, if you use another alignment you'll need to use syl.left or syl.right instead of syl.center.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll give that a shot as I've got two more karaokes to get done coming up soon. BTW, I'm currently using Aegisub 2.1.2, though someone told me that 2.1.6 is out. Does that have the latest VSFilter that you're mentioning? I know that I have the one in the csri folder that says 1.0.1.3, though my AviSynth folder has 1.0.1.4

Don't count on the version number VSFilter.dll itself contains in the resources (the one you can see in Explorer.) It has never been correct in any way.
Yes 2.1.6 should have the very newest VSFilter, a 2.39 version. In fact, the same version as is included with the newest CCCP.

On the same idea, I have had the same type of problem with \$x, but it seems most problematic with the character "t" - most of the other characters work fine.

Is there any reason for this, or is it just a weird fluke?

Probably related to the font if anything, there shouldn't be anything special about 't'.

It's happened with nearly all of the fonts that I've tried, which is the weird thing.

I always kinda figured that it wasn't reading the width of the font right.

good day

after reinstalling Windows, i have this problem:
when i try to load d2v (demuxed dvd with PgcEdit, then parsed m2v with dgindex) file in aegisub, it says

i have installed latest CCCP, CoreAVC, Power DVD 6, avisynth 2.5.7, so everything outside of aegisub plays fine. it even can load m2v file itself (very slow ofcourse, and for some reason crahed after this)
what should i do?

[update]
eh...
for whatever reason installing megui solved this. damn.

MeGUI probably installed dgdecode into your Avisynth Plugins dir, which is then autoloaded and then Aegisub tries to use Mpeg2Source to load the D2V file first. This has always been the case. The reason it didn't work before was that dgdecode wasn't available and Aegisub couldn't find its DLL to load.

I got a soundcard/videocard (I believe it does hardware video decoding, so it's not really a videocard, but it's designed for HTPCs with integrated graphics that can't decode h264 etc. and then of course it's also a soundcard), installed the drivers, and now aegisub won't show video. Reinstalled aegisub, reinstalled cccp, no such luck. Audio plays fine, but no video. Video+audio play fine in MPC, etc, so I can't think what it could be.

inb4 "aegisub isn't a video player" and "remove ur soundcard"

You need to be a bit more specific IMO.

What make (and model) is the actual graphics chip? Is is NVidia, ATI, Intel, S3, Matrox or whatever?
Does Aegisub crash? Does it display errors but not crash? Does it display garbage? Or does it just display nothing at all?

Got it fixed with some help. Was told my opengl might've got broken, so reinstalled graphics card's drivers and that seemed to do the trick.

I've been having some problems playing a WMV9 video in Aegisub, it's really slow playing the video, it plays in jumps of about .02 seconds for the video while the audio plays in real time.

The weird thing is that i was working on the exact same video about a week ago with absolutely no problems it all played fine.

A few days ago i formatted my computer, but I'm pretty sure I've reinstalled all the stuff that i need.

Is there some setting in Aegisub that i changed last time that I've forgotten to change this time or something?

Thanks

My best recommendation is "don't use WMV".
But since it sounds like a problem with seeking (ie. getting the right frame at the right time) it's probably related to container. So what container is the video in? (AVI, MKV, WMV, something else?)

It's in a .avi container, but it's working fine now. I just updated my version of Aegisub to the latest and it's working fine again.

Weird that it wouldn't work for the older version i had cos that was the same version i was using to work on it before the format, oh well.
