Yeah, the trial version is already for download. The complete version it's told to be released on Spring.
It's a very well made game, it lack the voices though... but that's no big deal, the attacks are cool and the childs, Kagutsuchi is chibi (I like chibi's so I won't complain XD). But for an incomplete doujin game I wouldn't ask more. It's worth playing. ^_^
I'm dying to play the complete version!
Btw, anyone knows where on the official site can we comment about their work? We should give them some reviews on the trial.

That's impressive. Game art along with pixelart are done very well. The music sounds good, though it's not Kajiura ^^; I hope the gameplay is nice too.

Btw guys, the trial can be downloaded from Tokyotosho. Just search for [rei_no_mono]. ^_^ (Its torrent btw)

Just noticed that there are some sfx missing to the falls and such. But I guess they will improve that later. The musics are cool indeed (I guess it couldn't be Kajiura's or they would face copyrights XD)

@cpxmay: to call the child is on the ~^ button. But I think you must add a direction or another button to do it successfully. I didn't completely figure it out either.

At least I don't. What program are you using to emulate the game? I don't know if the program is the problem but I'm using Daemon Tools and I can play the game widowed mode or fullscreen mode just fine. Oh, and when you start the game there is an option to chose the speed of fps you want. Did you check it?

Yes, I played with the settings, but nothing helped at all. I've even installed newest DirectX libs but it didn't do anything either. As emulator I use Daemon too. Maybe it's because of my 384 ram, but a 2d game should work quite allright >_>

Edit:
Now I know why it's so slow. Here are the requiments:
OS WindowsXP/DirectX9.0c
ＣＰU ＡｔｈｌｏｎＸＰ2500
RAM 512MB

Look's like no fun for me :(

Eto... let's see. The arrows are the directions. The (;,) (.: )(-_) buttons are used to attack; the (~^) button usually does the special attack. Now to call the child or to do the special child attack I don't know. I know that with Nao I keep pressing the attack buttons and sometimes she does it :heh: . Now Mai and Mikoto are really a pain to do it... -_-''

BTW, does anyone know for what is Mikoto's special "attack" (with the (~^) button)? She just does one of those sayan thigies and doesn't attack at all... :eyebrow:

And yeah... Natsuki is a pain on the neck to beat (she also annoys me, when I'm fighting against her that is XD).

if you remember old street fighter youll can use some weird moves :P

anyway for the keys (natsuki) :
, : punch (weak)
. : kick (med)
/ : shoot (strong)
\ : dhuran (child) (only when child bar is full or not red for nao's case)

when you use for example down, forward, \, you'll use dhuran load silver cartridge (thus freezing the opponent), for akane's case, you'll use her special (thus reducing the hime bar counter) which is harry's roar attack.

I don't know how to use mikoto's "child" and you can control julia when nao uses her child (including julia's web attack).

man I love this game, even better than senretsu (if they create better graphic, it make this game excellent) :D

The "animation" is very detailed, such as miroku can be dropped down, nao's claw attack and many more :D

@Chuongfantasy: Yeah, it's like gashunum said. (Though I don't use Natsuki many times to know XD). I'm sorry if I got some buttons wrong, but since I'm not American nor English, my keyboard can be a little different from your's. XD

Agreed, Gashunum. For a doujin game I wasn't expecting this level of details O_O I was thinking that it would be just one of those crappy games that we see sometimes but boy, was I suprised! Can't wait to play the completed version. Too bad that there aren't any Otome characters... I would want to kick some Otome butts... *coughstomoeandarikacoughs* (Sorry the fans, but I couldn't help it...)

But, I never succes with any of the characters special moves. I havnt even figured out the combination to reload Natsukis gun, shoot Ice things, making Duran go big etc....Guess I'll get it soon.

And I freakin hate Mai's and Nao's special move....those is a pain in the ass

i think its kinda dumb that you have to reload natsuki's gun, even though in the anime it has unlimited bullets. but from a game standpoint, just sitting there firing away would be pretty cheap...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that it was because of that problem that they made the bullets limited. It's hard to move while Natsuki keeps shooting at us... if it was unlimited... well... we would be in serious troubles...

why would the put in a two player mode but not put any keys set to the secondary player? There's no way to set it to two player because if you press A again it goes to CPU. I was trying to set it to 2P so that i could possibly figure out moves, but I cant because of the frikkin cpu.

Ehehe! Same problem here XD They're lacking the training mode. But you can't set it to 2p probably because this is only a trial and they didn't put that opition yet... At least this is what I think since I can't manage to set it either... :(

You can set it to 2p so you can train if you want. When you select your character and hit A, Hit A again and it will go to cpu 2nd player. Just hit the up key to set it to an actual second player. You can use the other 1/2 of the keyboard to control the 2nd player too so you can train on both of em.

Oh, so thats how you do it.

I was able to figure out most (if not all) of Akane's moves. She uses tonfa, and those are awesome. the [,] will be called the A button, [.] will be B, and [/] will be C. [\] will just be Child.

Directional Keys : Move
Forward - Forward : Dash
Back - Back : Dodge Backwards
Up : Jump
Up - Up : Swing tonfa horizontally, hovering in mid-air. Releasing Up and pressing Up again while still in the air will continue the hover.
After being knocked down, as soon as you hit the ground, pressing A+(Left or Right) will result in a quick recover.

A : Punch. This can be repeated, and the move does not change
B : Swing. A horizontal swing of the tonfa.
B - B : Pressing it twice with do a horizontal swing and then a vertical swing.
C : Upward swing.
Down - A : Low Punch. Just like the regular
Down - B : Low Kick.
Down - C : Low Swing
Up - A : Kick (in the air)
Up - B : Horizontal Swing (in the air)
Up - C : Downward Swing (in the air)

A+B : Dodge. You will dodge toward your opponent, so if you are right next to them you will end up behind them. They can hit you still, so its basically only for movement.
A+C: Nothing. You will just do the basic punch.
B+C: Jump Strike. After a low jump you will hit them with the tonfa
Down - Forward - A (or B or C) : A circular swing of the tonfa. Pressing A (or B or C) again will do another circular swing with the opposite hand, and pressing A (or B or C) for a third time will do a swing with both hands at the same time.

Hold Forward - Down - Forward - A (or B or C) : A jumping circular swing (my favorite move). Hold down forward so you are moving, and then Down - Forward - A (or B or C) in quick succession.

Down - Back - A : A circular swing of the tonfa resulting in a short whirlwind, sending the opponent upwards.
Down - Back - B : A circular swing of the tonfa resulting in a medium whirlwind, sending the opponent upwards.
Down - Back - C : A circular swing of the tonfa resulting in a long whirlwind, sending the opponent upwards.

Child : Call Harry to roar at the opponent, sending them backwards, but doing no damage.
Down - Forward - Child : Call Harry to roar at the opponent, stunning them in place for a short period of time, doing a small amount of damage. While they are stunned, you can get off a short combo.

That should be it, but there might be more. Also, I have seen the computer use something I can only describe as a grab/throw. When they do it, you are temporarily immobile, blue sparks appear from your location, and they do a short 2-3 hit combo and then you are sent flying. Has anyone been able to do this?

i was able to get into the two player mode, and i got the keys for it

on american keyboards, [A] is the A button, [S] is the B button, and [Z] is the C button. [X] is the Child button. [F] is left, [G] is right, [T] is up, and [V] is down.

I like first player keys much better.

oh, and in two player mode, I let the time run out, and I got an error that caused the program to close. The text that appears when the character wins didn't appear, and then the error closed the game.

yay for triple posts!! seems like i'm the only one playing the game.

^ i found a glitch. I KO'd Natsuki, but right before that happened she sent out Duran, so I got knocked down at the same time, but not KO'd. So then I get a Mashiro. Looks like the program makes a Mashiro appear based off of the position of the character, not the status of their health.

Also, If any of you are still wondering about the special moves, there is a manual in the CD image. Just go to My Documents, right click on the drive where the game is mounted, and click Explore. Then go into the MANUAL folder and click on manual.htm. It has all the character special moves in it. If you can read katakana, you should be fine. If you can't google translate works pretty well. I still haven't figured out how to do Mikoto's child attack yet tho...

And, I answered my own question. To do the grab/throw, you go right next to them, hold down Forward, and press C.

i wish i could show you guys my screen. I found a major glitch. I was playing as Mai, and facing Miyu. While Mai is in the air, if you press Down Down [Attack], you will perform a flaming dive. At the same time as that, Miyu did her move where she dashes forward with the Drill attachment. I was sent back, but Miyu is trapped within the attack routine, standing still. If I touch the drill I am hurt, but she doesn't move. The wind that appears when you dash backwards is appearing perpetually, and two beams of light are going vertically from her location. Alyssa is unaffected. She just stands there, looking left and right. I used the same attack again, and she was sent flying, thus ending the glitch. If I knew how to write that in japanese, I would submit that as a bug report.

EDIT: I found another glitch, in the same fight! I KO'd Miyu, and she was resurrected. As soon as she was up, she did her special attack, and at that time I was dashing forward, so I was KO'd. The weird thing was, I wasn't knocked down, and Mashiro did not appear. My health did recover though, and the "Mashiro Resurrection" text appeared, just like normal. I was not able to move, and when the resurrection ended I stood up just like normal, even though I was already standing.

well, I had some extra time on my hands, and redid some of the sprites so that they are actual size. If you do a prt scrn, every pixel is represented by a square of 4, so remaking them was easy, it just took time.

in the manual, it is given as Down - Diagonal Back - Back - Down - Diagonal Back - Back - Child. (basically Down - Back - Down - Back)

If that doesnt work, try doing Down - Forward - Down - Forward - Child. I remember doing it, but I'm not sure which one it was.

I've tried out this demo and sure it is really awesome for a doujin fighting game ^_^ ... Reminds me of some Capcom based animation style game!!
For those who seem to have problems with the commands in the game, try a gamepad, this is more easier this way ^_^ ... I use one and this is joyfull to the fullest!!

I tried the update, now there's Midori-chan but when I try to choose any character it will close the program. Send | Don't Send error.

To make it work I checked the 2nd and 3rd option. Anyone knows what's wrong?

What must I do? This is the 1st update ever right? Or did I miss any previous version?

I'm having the same problem. I was trying to install it over the original trial, but it sounds like a second one was released. Does anyone know where we can download the most recent trial version? =)

The page changed to fuuka.main.jp , and there's another patch (19th Jan 2008 - HiME.exe and patch.bin). There's a wallpaper containing all the chars(from Mai to Shiho and Mashiro - around 16 chars or so). There's also a screenshot of Story Mode (I guess) with Mashiro talking to Nagi. Hopefully there will be a full version soon.

I'll try this patch, maybe it can "fix" the previous patch for Midori, which caused my game to crush. Thanx for the info! :D

I think ti's because.... The first patch didn't work because that's for the trial that was released during C72. So I'm just assuming the 2nd patch is for the one released during C73.

I think the version that everyone's using is the C71 trial, unless they were able to go to the convention and pick up the game themselves. If so, you lucky devil. >:o

Good question, when is the full version coming out? So far we only have like 7 HiME (Mai, Mikoto, Natsuki, Nao, Akane, Midori, Yukino + MIYU). Does Mashiro count? She's only been in the story capture. I wonder when the full version will come out.

I'm a little tired, so excuse me if I've made it more confusing than it needed to be.

1) Download DAEMON (http://www.disc-tools.com/download/daemon) and install it.
2) Right click this (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y263/raizoo/d5c9b7d4.jpg) icon.
3) Click/put your cursor above Virtual CD/DVD-ROM.
4) Click Device 0: [F:] Empty.
5) Click Mount Image.
6) Find wherever you extracted/unzipped the game file. The version of DAEMON I'm using can't see the .img file normally for some reason, so you have to set Files of Type at the bottom to "All Files" and you'll be able to see it if you can't. Like so (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y263/raizoo/538f0422.jpg).
7) Now it'll ask if you want to install the game. It'll probably appear as gibberish to you, so click on the left (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y263/raizoo/84c561ad.jpg) one at the bottom. Then, just click on the middle choices after that to install the game.

- While the image file is still mounted in DAEMON, you can go to My Computer and right click on the DATA_DISC that should have Mai's face for an icon. Click Explore or Open and if you click on Manual, it'll show the different moves you can do with the characters available.
- Even if you completely exit DAEMON, your computer will still think the disc is inside. All you have to do is follow steps 2 ~ 4, then click Unmount Image.

I think that's it. Hope it helps.

I remember typing up something for a friend of mine concerning the controls and moves before realizing that there was a manual to show you how to do stuff in the game. Man, did I feel stupid and sad wasting some time typing it out. -sigh-

Player 1 Keys:
Arrow keys = ... no need to explain, right?
, = Weak attack. (A)
. = Medium attack. (B)
/ = Strong attack. (C)
\ = Child.

Player 2 Keys:
F, T, V, G = ... how you move...
A = Weak attack. (A)
S = Medium attack. (B)
Z = Strong attack. (C)
X = Child.

Basics:
Forward, Forward = Dash
Back, Back = Retreat.
A + B = Jump toward your opponent.
B + C = Jump Strike. Thing. Each character performs a little hop/jump forward before performing an attack.
Forward + C (if you're in your enemy's face) = Grab.
{something I've yet to figure out thoroughly} = Block, since I'm pretty sure I've seen my opponents block attacks.
A + Forward/Back (as you hit the ground) = Recover from being knocked down.

Notes:
- Attacks can be performed during the dash.
- Doing the Super Attack takes away one of your HiME bar things. Having one of those means that Mashiro can resurrect you if you die.
Characters
Basics:
A = Punch.
B = Swing.
B + B = Adds another Strike.
B + C = Hop and Strike.
C = Upward Swing.
Forward + C = Horizontal Swing.
Forward + C (Grab) = Akane uses her butt! :D
Down + A = Low Punch.
Down + B = Low Kick.

Notes:
- The range of the Whirlwind attack doesn't change, just the duration.
- Akane can stop hovering, but continue to hover again if you hold the Up button once more. I hope that made sense.
- Dayum, I find Akane incredibly cheap. It's probably to make up for her lack of not really doing much besides freaking out over Kazu-kun in the series.
Basics:
A = Punch.
B = Fire Swing.
B + C = Front Flip Kick.
C = Fire Strike.
Dash + A = Short Knee Dash.
Dash + C = Sliding Low Kick.
Forward + C (Grab) = She looks like she's grabbing them by neck and.... doing damage somehow magically without really moving or touching them.
Down + A = Low Kick.
Down + B = Fire Uppercut.
Down + C = Fire Uppercut.... Swing.

Child:
Child = Nao switches to Julia and vice versa. It's like another character except while you're using her, your Child meter slowly diminishes. Even when your opponnent is knocked down and the timer has paused, the meter will still go down.
A = Jab.
A + B = Yes, even Julia can Dodge.
B = Slide Jab.
B + C = Just a hop forward.
C = Overhead Strike.
Down + A = Low Jab.
Down + B = "Uppercut".
Down + C = Spin.
Up + A = Jab (in the air).
Up + B = Stab (in the air).
Up + C = Spin (in the air).

Super Attack:
Down, Forward, Down, Forward + Any Attack = Nao makes a bunch of beams fall on the opponent, much like that one episode early on in Mai-Hime.

Notes:
- My mate mentioned you can change directions of Nao's non-spinning Special attacks if you want her to attack forward or backward, much like how Natsuki can with her mid-air shooting thing.
- Also, that one attack where she goes vertical and then diagonally strikes the enemy's distance thing changes depending on which side you're facing. Like, if you're on the left side of your opponent, using the C button would have the longest distance. But if you're on the right side of your opponent, using the C button would be the shortest distance. I hope I worded that right.
- If your Child bar is completely finished, you'll switch back to Nao. You won't be able to switch to Julia 'til your bar is full again. If you do push the child button while the meter is rising, I think it automatically switches you to Julia once it's full.
- B> Nao a nekomimi meido outfit.
I feel very geeky right now. ;-;

Oh, you know how some things I've listed as something like "Back, Back-Down, Down, Down-Forward, Forward"? It works perfectly fine if you just do it as "Back, Down, Forward", I guess. I don't know why I typed some of them out the horribly long way. -scratches head-

Okay, let's make this clear because I believe it's been said a few times before in the thread.

You cannot patch the C71 version to C72, C73, or any other future versions.

In order to patch versions from C72 and above, you have to have that version of the game from when it was released at Comiket. Simply put, to use the C72 patch, you need to have the version from C72, to use the C73 patch, you need to have the version from C73, etcetc. That means you'd have to have been at Comiket or someone's being mean and not sharing their stolen goods. I believe they only fix minor errors within the game anyway.

I have my doubts that any version will be available to find online until the game is finally completed. Not entirely sure the one from C74 will be the completed game or another trial as I can't fully comprehend Japanese, but just my two cents on when we'll hopefully find the more completed versions of this game.

I hope they finish it up, it looks like it could be pretty cool when they add all the characters with SFX and clean up the sprites a bit. I wonder if they could sell it off to some small game house to make it for PC/PS2/etc... I would definitely pay a few bucks for a finished product of this game.

C74 is August 15 ~ 17.

One of the entries on the blog says there's going to be thirteen playable characters by the end, so it looks like we'll be able to play as Alyssa. I don't know if it says that game will be fully complete for C74, but here's hoping - I have a feeling that Shiho, Shizuru, and Fumi are already in the game and are just under the "...and more???" part of the character section because of when they appear in the anime.

The site has been re-vamped since the last time I looked at it. Looks like you can download a trial game with only Mai, Natsuki, and Mikoto.

So, it looks like they have a web trial available to download. I'm guessing you can only play as Mai, Natsuki, and Mikoto and it's prolly limited in the number of stages (I'm still learning Japanese, especially reading, so I couldn't really make out much on their page other than bits and pieces). They have notices for Comiket74, and from the looks of it it will be the completed game. I'm DLing the trial now, but it's SSSSssllooowwww.

I took a look at the screens and some demos on the MelonBooks and the Messe Sanoh pages and it looks awesome. The MelonBooks site has what looks like an order form (apparently 2250-en, which I would guess is around $25) and what looks like an August 17th release date! So, I'm assuming it's ready to go. I mean, I COULD be completely mistaken, but it's my best guess :D.

Now... how to get it over here in the states... :) Anyone know of a retailer that can import Japanese Doujin PC games, or would I be able to actually order it straight from the Japanese sites... Or I guess I can wait until I go over there and pick up a copy... ;) I totally would wanna pay this person(s) money, 'cause this is an amazing job for a fan-made game!

I should ask some doujin buying mates to lend me a hand of the game is only around 25$, though the shipping and handling rate will probably eat me. What a fair price for such a game.

I just took a look at the MelonBooks site and I believe it says fifteen characters, so now I'm a little confused. Did they actually get Nakahara Mai to say those lines in the game?

Twelve HiME, Alyssa + Miyu should be a pair, making thirteen. Mashiro is probably together with Fumi, unless you want a time paradox happening with Kagutsuchi or the creator stealing that Sakuya girl's child from the visual novel game. I mean hey, Haruka's on the poster as well, not to mention Erstin is alongside Arika in that table identifying image thing.

If only Gakutenou and Midori could transform together like in the Otome manga, or even the giant robot form of Gakutenou in the Hime one....

Hmm.. 15 characters... If MIYU + Alyssa and Mashiro + Fumi then there are still 3 slots left. Maybe Mikoto in her berserk state? Or yeah, maybe Mashiro without Fumi... Do u think there will be Otomes? Haruka shouldn't be able to do anything without a child or powers. Nagi maybe? Or Reito (that's his name right, I kinda forgot).

So we'll have to wait til this weekend... Anyone who has a friend that will go to C74? So far the game looks really great... And I used to think doujin games are just average or less...

Haruka's awesomeness [Headbut, anyone?] should totally allow her to be a playable character, but I really don't know. Doesn't look like we'll have to wait much longer anyway.

I'm sure people would be able to order the game online. Just need to figure out how if we can't get it the illegal way. -coughs a bit- I remember how you could buy the Higurashi and Umineko novels online, but I forget the steps and I think it was through a different company....

There have been great doujin games - Higurashi Daybreak (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higurashi_Daybreak) and the Touhou series are fun and I'm wondering how fun Magical Battle Arena from the Nanoha series will turn out to be.

Has anyone tried this yet? I read that there are a few glitches. There's already a patch here (http://fuuka.main.jp). Upgrading version 1.00 to 1.01

I've seen gameplay videos on youtube. Are characters like Shiho in white Kimono playable or only in Story mode? What's Arinko doing in the game??? Looks great however.

Can't wait to try it out (have to find it first though) ^^!

I haven't seen a torrent for it just yet and it'd take a while for me to be able to order it online, if I could. Haruka's cardboard box cosplay and Yukariko's lolifying special looked really fun. I just hope there's an option to turn off the voices.

Could Shiho in that costume just be an alternate costume, like if there were two players who happened to both use Shiho? That's what I'm thinking....

Er, could you try to be a little clearer? You installed it and managed to play it fine, but now you suddenly can't? Did you accidentally try patching it with a different version's patch?

Alternate costume? Could be possible... But in the video where I saw that Shiho, Mai and Natsuki where fighting her. I don't know if her moves set is the same as the normal Shiho or not. So it looks like we can play as teams depending on the story. Hopefully it will be available for VS mode too. So we can fight with one CPU controlled ally.

You could try uninstalling it first and then make sure that the folder where the game was installed is really empty. What does the error say?

I am downloading the game now... Someone uploaded it on mediafire from the DoujinStyle forum. But at 99%, my download just couldn't finish.. so now I'm re-downloading. Is it okay to post the mediafire link here?

Well, there's a megaupload link of the trial game here, but I don't know because this is the full version we're dealing with.

I just saw a torrent of it and it's 152mb for the iso+rr3. Can't wait to try it and if I think it's that awesome, I'll probably try to buy it to give the guy some well earned money.

The patch made the joke character Haruka not so much of a joke character now....

I gave up on that mediafire. The 2nd part just wouldn't download properly. So I used a C74 torrent, but only downloaded Fuuka Taisen. I think it's the same as yours, around 150MB iso+rr3.

I haven't tried the game without patch. I directly patched it after I installed the game.

Just finished the game with Mai this morning, got MIYU. Shiho in her white kimono is really hard to beat, she can't stay still and is often passing through you like a ghost. Yatagarasu is also annoying...

Do you unlock people in order or do you have to use specific people? What do you think of the game so far? I really like it. And Shiho looks great (in white at least, haven't tried the normal version)

Does anyone have a cheat sheet for all the special moves?

For Mai, I got Kagutsuchi to go huge (aka normal size from the series) and do some... THING with his claws (Mai flies up next to his head), but I can't get back there, dunno the combo. Also, I'm sure there are a few other special moves too. I know the Kagutsuchi fireball is F,D,F,F,D,F + Light and Mai's ultra Fire Whirlwind is F,D,F,F,D,F+Medium. I dunno the other specials though.

Plus, I'd figure that if a site was going to ship overseas, they'd at least have an English page available, and none of those sites seem to.

Have you tried looking at the manual? There is the complete move list for EVERY character. It's in the folder where you installed the game.

That's Mai level 3 super. If I'm not wrong v > v > + Child. It's not so good based on my experience. You have 3 options, use the left or right claw, or shoot fire. Doesn't last long enough.

Has anyone got the other characters besides MIYU? Haruka? Shiho (Shiromuku no HiME)?
How do you think is the game? Fav char?

I only have the web trial so far, so no manual (just a short readme with general moves), and I always thought that they left some special moves out of the manual for these types of games, but sounds good if they're all in there. :)

So, level 3 super means (I assume) that I have to have the power bar all the way charged to level 3 to use it, which would explain why I couldn't get that combo to ever work again.

You should try the C74 version... If you want I'll try to upload the full manual tomorrow. The manual is really complete, it explains about dashing, dodging, beat back, counter attack etc.
Everything we need to know and the full move list even for characters that I haven't gotten yet (or better, don't know how to get).

Yes, you need 3 bars which makes it hard to use. Most likely you'll have to battle 3 rounds in order to get 3 bars.

Just started playing it today and I've only tried Midori so far, poking around Story Mode. Pretty fun character, but I really dislike the voice as I try to imagine Tamura Yukari saying "Super Midori-chan Time" instead. Throwing her Element around is fun, but spamming it can be very punishable.

I should probably be playing Akira instead. Smaller, faster characters are what I've always had a knack for in fighting games.

And if I figure out how to order Fuuka Taisen, I'll let you know, KitsuneNineTails.

Akira is also really quick. Like a ninja lol A lot of jumping, dashing, teleporting and shooting around. She can also triple jump. Her dash is really good. And you can actually hit the enemy with all of her air projectiles when close.

Shiho is a wrestler here... Grabbing, slamming etc.

To get the other characters, just beat Story and Arcade mode with all characters. During that, you'll start unlocking the other characters. Beating Story Mode with half of the characters should unlock Fumi. Takes a long time, I admit. But on the bright side, you'll get better and know everyone's strong / weak point. :D

I already got everyone. I don't think that 'boss' characters are unlockable. So those 4 are only enemies in Story / Arcade Mode.

There's a batch torrent with all of the doujin games released during this C74 and Fuuka Taisen is in it. It's about 155mb and you're going to need something like Daemon tools to install it.

Tokyo Toshokan is your friend.

And yeah, Akira is pretty quick. Definitely my type of character, but Midori is just.... Midori. Too bad you can't fight in her Lindem Baum outfit, or so it seems. I really should work on unlocking the characters, but touhou is eating most of my free time.

*evil shizuru (in kimono) is just strong (she keep summoning kiyohime and doing the naginata attack thing), can't even defeat her even once
*I like yukariko's vras summon XD
*how come yukino + diana is strong now -_-
*akira is fast, havent tried to play with her extensively though, the gennai's iron is just plain awful -_-
*hate akane's harry's roar - couldnt be blocked
*miyu's gattling gun is just damaging badly

and the character seems always blocking my attack -_- so yea i havent finish any single character in story mode

Well when she's doing the nagianta attack if you bent down and shot (if you are using Natsuki) works quite fine

I'm having problems with saving the game. Well, it's no saving XD

I play and unlock the first character, MIYU. Then I close the game, and she's not there. I'm playing with just one phase, but I don't think that's the problem. When I execute the game, in the first windows I mark the last option, I don't know what's that, but I can't play if I don't do that.

I also see that my save.dat it's not "only read", and the game is patched

Maybe I'm doing something, or not doing something, since I don't know japanese...

If anyone can help... I'd appreciate it, or someone can put his/her savings, because seems like I'll never unlock all characters...

I assume you mean St. Vrus (Sister Yukariko's child)? I haven't player her yet, but AFAICT she has a few "normal" attacks with St. Vrus, from an iron maiden to a "stomp". The manual lists all of the normal and special moves, so you'll have to look under Yukariko's section for those (I don't know them offhand). The ultra-special child attack is almost always D-F-D-F+Child, but you have to have 3 levels of your power gauge filled up before you can use it. I assume the normal child attack is done with the child attack with some simple combination, or alone. The iron maiden attack you have to time right so the opponent is walking past when St. Vrus reappears. Kinda like controlling Yukino and Diana.

Hello, I'm new, and I have a little problem with this game. When I start it, I get the message, which tells me to press the start button, but I've pressed each, and every single, key on both my keyboard, AND my mouse, to no avail. And the manual is of no help with this matter, either, so I'd greatly appreciate it, if anyone here could help me with this. ;)

Go into your Fuuka Taisen folder in your Program Files, double click the Config icon/ふうかσコンフィグ, set up the controls for players one [and two], then click the left most button on the bottom out of the three. You shouldn't have to do this again once you've done it, unless you want to change your keys, of course.

AFAICT it's saying something about not having permission to start the program.

a) Check your user permissions and that you are allowed to run as administrator (if in Vista), etc.
b) Maybe check your key settings and make sure that you only have one of each key assigned, although I tried this and it didn't crash.

Wait until you reach Shiho, Yatagarasu is extremely annoying and Shiho can phase through your attacks. And here I thought Psycho Shizuru was hard (tip: with Natsuki, keep holding down and back to block and press c to shoot Shizuru whenever you can).

OMG. Shiho is annoying as all hell. I basically try to get medium close and just spam strong attack every time she plays that deuced flute. With Mai I can take her down with only a few continues (because if Shiho gets in one shot, you're pretty much gone for the whole round with Yatagarusu spamming you to death). With Mikoto, I just spammed her special attacks, like the sword uppercut and the one where she flies across across the screen and slams her sword into the ground. Apparently Yatagarusu can't really target you if your flying in and out of range. The horizontal beam actually passes over Mikoto, unless you attack, then you get hit. :P Really, if Shiho were supposed to be this powerful how in hell did Mai pretty much whip her butt in the anime? Only reason Mai didn't taker her down outright was that she didn't want to kill Shiho or Yatagarusu (while the opposite definitely wasn't true!).

PsychoShizuru, I can only really beat if I can cheese it out. With Mai it's just jump and strong attack + flame drill, with Mikoto if I jump and hit strong attack quickly, sometimes I can do a beat-back and if you do the DD+C sword slam you'll crit for a decent amount. On everyone else this as a counterattack can easily take away 2/3rds of their life, but on Shizuru it's only about 1/5th. But if I can spam that, I can win. Took me like 10 continues, though. Really, that stupid naginata combo is ridiculous. She could basically repeat it indefinitely and kill you with a 40-hit combo. Plus Kyohime's attack is BS because it 100% cannot be dodged, even with Mai's double jump and dash. but if you can get into a spamming repetition, you might have a chance. I notice that Shizuru rarely falls down (and she only fell down once even when I beat her), so she can ALWAYS counterattack you after you complete a strong attack combo (even any of the power attacks), even if you actually hit her. And if that counterattack is the naginata spam, kiss that round goodbye. I'll have to remember your tip for Natsuki. :)

I beat story mode with everyone but Natsuki and Nao and beat Arcade mode with Mai and Mikoto and still have only unlocked Miyu and Fumi (and I unlocked them a long time ago). The message says, that you can't start two instances of the game, and, in fact, I went to the Task Manager, and found out, that the previous instance of the game was still in the memory, even though I closed the game, so I killed that instance, and voilà, the game started. Now I'm playing with Mai, and I'm stuck at Akane, who seems to be un-beatable. :o

Oh, THAT'S what 2重 meant. I was wondering about that... I know 重 means "heavy", but I guess it means "instance" too. ;)

Cool, glad you got it worked out. Akane isn't too bad if you try to stay airborne and do jump attack combos. Mai's my favorite character in this game as well as the anime. :) Her strong attacks deal a LOT of damage. My favorite with Mai is jump, come down with a strong attack (C), then immediately hit DD+C for the fire drill. If they both hit, it takes off like 1/4 health. Another good one is to come down with a strong attack, then duck and do 2-3 light punches and FDF+C for the flip kick or DF+C for a spin kick. Gets a nice 6-7-hit combo, plus if your strong attack is blocked then you can abort and not make yourself vulnerable to a counter.

With Akane, just watch out for Harry's unblockable sonic attack, he's easy to avoid if you can get far enough back. Her spinning tonfa combos can be harsh, but just try the jump attacks and you should be good. Try to fill 3 power meters then slap DFDF+Child and when Kagutsuchi comes out just spam the attacks to take care of the rest. :)

I don't know anything about numbers but I've been through story mode with all the characters and I've unlocked Miyu, Fumi and Shizuru (I got Shizuru after I completed it with Nao, though I dont know if that's exactly how you unlock her). I havent been through arcade mode yet though so I might be able to unlock a few chars there.

I forgot when I unlocked the others after Fumi. Just beat story with everyone and then arcade.

I admit that Shiromuku no HiME is annoying. Yatagarasu's attack is strong and she can like teleport / phase / float around. Just stay close to her and do strong attacks or a combo.

Psycho Shizuru is also strong. I got her to fall down by attacking her while she's in the air. I used Natsuki's move where she shoots all of her bullets. For most characters, just keep the distance. It's a lot of hit n run game actually. People like Yukariko and Nao have it easier to avoid Shizuru, because they can attack from a distance and quickly switch to the other side. Akira and Arika can easily beat her. She can't hit you if you can't stay still. Just jump from side to side while attacking her. The same goes for fighting Shiromuku no HiME.

When I unlocked Shiho I was kinda disappointed as she's much weaker than Shiromuku no HiME, but actually she can easily combo most of her moves and got Yatagarasu's laser for her super.

shizuru is just too painful, too strong, can't kill her even once. the naginata combo spawn attack + kiyohime is just killer and natsuki's bullets are not strong enough to kill her, duran powerful beam attack also doesn't hurt her badly, anymore suggestion anyone?

Shoot all of your bullets and then reload. It involves a lot of shooting n running. Just shoot her from as far as possible and run back. When you are almost in the corner try to jump over her. Also keep doing Load Silver Cartridge. Use the beam whenever you can. When she's doing her slash move, that's the time to do Silver Cartridge and shoot all of your bullets at her. Try to block her naginata, if I'm not wrong it hits low. Kiyohime also hits low, so block while crouching.

Edit 2 : Got Arika and Shizuru by completing the game with the 12 others...
Edit 3 : Got Haruka. So you just have to play in Story Mode with all to unlock the bonus Chara...

(And I was in easy mode cause Psycho-Shizuru just get on my nerves...)

Edit 4 : The game make my Computer crash. Arika, Shizuru and Haruka are now missing. I'm SOOOO borded right now.
Edit 5 : That's a lot of edit...
Edit 6 : Got back Arika and Shizuru. Guess I'll do their story to unlock Haruka again.

Do you guys got also a slow-down when facing Akira and Midori ?

After completing twice the game, here's my opinion.
Artworks are nice, sprites are really great but some Childs are... Hum. Duran is just beautiful, but Gennai and Kiyohime, they just look... fake.

They should have mix up the anime, the manga and the ps2 game, and made more characters. Maybe they can add some via a patch...
I would love to play as :

Haruka - manga version (Koumokuten got to be ridiculously strong...)
Mashiro - manga version (White Rabbit spamming everywhere...)
Sakuya - ps2 game (cause Tsukuyomi is my favorite child ever...)
Miyu - ps2 game version
Alyssa - ps2 game version
Psycho-Shizuru
Ghost-Shiho

Who cares about continuity ?! BRING ALL THE HIME OF ALL UNIVERSE !
And gosh... some GUYS ! Nagi - Reito - Takumi - Tate - Takeda... Kazuya ?
Or even characters like Haruka with no powers : Aoi, Chie (special cellphone picture attack)...

My way was diff. I used Midori to get Shiho. It's just how much you progress through story mode with all the chars. In the end you get them all.

Unzip the patch into your Fuuka Taisen folder in your Program Files and then copy and paste everything in the unzipped patch folder into your Fuuka Taisen Folder. You'll be asked if you want to replace the existing files, so just click yes to all.

I'm having problems with saving the game. Well, it's no saving XD

I solved it. I just delete the carpet with the game and extract it again and then, everything seems to work.

Well, by know I just play with Mikoto, Natsuki and Midori in story mode , and I have unlocked Miyu and Fumi.

One question. Your Midori when call Gakutenou says Duran? I think mine says that XD

At least! I have all characters unlocked. I had to play with all characters to get them all and I realize that I don't like to play with Yukino and Fumi, I had to give it some tries.

A few questions.

How Natsuki does the Jack Frost's attack?
And Shizuru and her super negi attack? I summon it. D L D L + B, but I don't insert it. The victim and I are close (touching in fact), but I don't know how to make it happen. Sometimes I can do it, others not. If I move Shizuru, the attack disappears, so... Can somebody help me?

For Shizuru, as far as I know her supers are a counter, except the Kyohime one. So you need to really plan when to use it. When you're sure that the enemy is gonna hit you or so, use it. The counter only works for normal physical attacks as far as I know.

Natsuki's jack frost? Do you mean her Load Silver Cartridge? V > + Child should make Duran shoot and when it hits they get frozen and look like a really cute snowman.

There seem to be 2 more updates on the site, regarding the update patches. The latest (11/08 I think)seems to have a lot features. Something about training mode, character selection in battle, turning dialogue ON/OFF. it also says something about 3P and 4P.

But again there's a red warning on top, so I don't know whether it's safe or not. Do you think I need to install the beta patches first or can I directly skip from 1.01 to this version?

If you're playing the trail version then you can only play as Mai, Mikoto, Natsuki and MIYU.

The patches are for the full version released at C73. I updated mine to 1.01 but am still unsure about the later update patches as there is a red warning which I can't read because it's in japanese.

Just try playing the full version of the game. Much better, more characters etc.
Some characters have really interesting moves(Yukariko for example), some need to chain their moves together (Shiho for example) and some are speed characters (Akira n Arika for example) and some are just for the story mode (Shiromuku no HiME n Psycho Shizuru).

I read that they are releasing 3 more characters on the next comiket. Sakuya from Mai-HiME for the PC, Alyssa - probably mostly using Artemis like Shiromuko no HIME uses yatagarasu, and Shizuru in Kimono - looks like we finally get to use psycho Shizuru :D

when i was playing fuuka taisen and my character was M.I.Y.U. i accidentaly make a combo then i got to used alyssa's child and it just shoot out my enemy from the top and guest what my enemy just died even though her life(HP) is super FULL as in not lying promise

IIRC, all the moves are in the game manual, right? It's in the same folder as the game.

Shizuru's level 2 and 3 are a counter if I'm not wrong (only works for physical attacks).

M.I.Y.U. controlling Artemis? This is the first time I heard of that. Perhaps the others can help... I'll try it out this weekend after I finish all my work.

Do you think it's possible that they are gonna release a doujin Mai Otome game?

I just tried patch 1.02(5). It fixed a lot of bugs here and there. It basically makes everything more balanced. So Arika isn't that broken anymore and hand-to-hand moves seem to do more damage (Akira, Shiho).

Now I finally know, what Alyssa does. In the manual it says she increases the HiME gauge. MIYU's level 3 is Artemis but it doesn't do too much damage. Probably already balanced... But she can use Alyssa to increase her meter quickly.

Shiho's child now actually hits with the wings.

Just get the full version (from C74) and install it. Then extract all the files from patch 1.01 and 1.02 (5) to the folder where your game is installed. The extracted files will automatically replace the existing files. The controls are still the same.

I had problems earlier with the game controls, so I renamed the Config.exe file. The game will be FuukaVS.exe and the config will be config.exe (I renamed it so it doesn't use japanese characters anymore. But maybe it will work just fine for you even without renaming it.

Well, the game should be an .ISO. So just burn it to a disc or mount it with Daemon. It will auto run and after that it's like installing any other software, next next next finish :D When you play it should be 1.00.

The patches are all .rar so just drag and drop them inside the game folder. It will replace them then. Update to 1.01 first and then to 1.02(5). links are available from the official site (http://fuuka.main.jp).

Sorry about that, I was kinda in a hurry when I replied.

The full version from C74 can usually be downloaded as a torrent. The file should be FileName.iso
ISOs can directly be burned to a CD or can be opened using tools such as Daemon tools. That way you create a virtual disc and don't have to waste any CDs.

When you insert the CD or mount it using Daemon, there will be a window for installation. Just click next until it's done (like usually installing any other program next until finish)

Once installed, there should be shorcuts on the desktop and I think it will open the folder where your game is installed. The default folder is something like C:/Program Files/[Rei no Mono]/[Fuuka Taisen]

Run Config.exe if you want to change the configuration, or directly run FuukaVS.exe
But the version is still 1.00

To update:
download the update patches. Open patch 1.01 and extract the files to your Fuuka Taisen folder, a few files will be replaced. Then do the same thing for patch 1.02(5).

You're ready to play then :D

To make it easy, copy both patches into your [Fuuka Taisen] folder and right click, extract files here. Do this for both patches. And voila! Basically you just replace the old files with those from both patches.

Just change the difficulty to easy first if you have problems. But after a while you get used to everything... I always play on hard now and win with most HiME. I think you're still adjusting yourself to the gameplay, and try to figure out which move works the best for which enemy. I usually only use like 3 attacks per HiME. Try comboing more moves and don't forget you have the super, too. Just try training mode first...

Just a few favorite HiME I use:

-Shiho (of course) : use the move where she runs forward and slams the enemy to the wall. You can follow up with her move where she jumps and grabs her enemy OR use the move where she charges forward while jumping. Her Child is also quite helpful (depends on the situation)

-Yukariko : put Vlas in front of you to catch the enemy if they get close. Use a combination of her 3 / 5 arrow shoot and her illusion arrow (she makes an illusion that shoots an arrow). Her super I love to use is Vlas too.

-Yukino : just try grabbing the enemy with Diana or hit them from behind. Her level 1 is quite useless for me...

-Shizuru : just spam her katana attack. her level 1 is really good

Lately I've been busy like hell, but finally I have some time off. I see that you're quite far in the game.

How many characters left to get? Shizuru can be annoying but yesterday when I replayed arcade using Yukariko, I only had to continue once. Turned out Yukariko's arrow are quite good and her super (which I thought was kinda useless) actually worked well against Shizuru!

I haven't tried the netplay yet, I don't know how to use it ^^!
It's a menu in the game but you have to set a few things which I don't know how to set.
