According to a promotional postcard passed out to attendees of Winter Comiket 71 which just wrapped a few days ago at Big Sight in Tokyo, Yasunori Mitsunaga's (Trafficker) manga Kaibutsu Oujo (Princess Resurrection) will become a TV animation to broadcast via TBS and BS-i in 2007. Imagine will produce the series. The original gothic horror / dark comedy / heavy moe themed comic serializes in Kodansha's Shounen Sirius Magazine. Del Rey acquired the manga for USA / English release in November. 3 collected volumes now exist on the market in Japan. The story centers on the character of school boy Hiro Hiyorimi who is struck by a car in an accident. Un beknownst to him, his life is saved by a princess of darkness who feeds him her blood immediately after the inncident.

I can't wait to watch the characters being animated and in full color.

The Princess's werecat eyes look menacing and creepy.

Hiro's big sister gets me the Mahoro vibes on that maid outfit.

And I seriously think that either they would tone down by lot the violence that is graphically depicted in the manga, or the broadcasters would go to insert the obnoxious black fog to cover those parts in the broadcast as it was done with Girls Bravo season one.

:heh: Don't hate me for being pedantic, but I think the 'ka' already means author or creator, so the use of the word 'author' after manga-ka is unnecessary.

Saw episode 1.
Hm, so the male lead gets killed in the first episode, where have I seen this before? Ah, Shakugan no Shana and Busou Renkin. Okay, sets for a promising premise. Maids, vampires, werewolves, the living dead, and lolis, what more could you ask for?

Hm, the character designs look uninspiring. Does it have to do with the original manga? Animation by Mad House, huh. Okay, if I can bear Otogi Juushi Akazukin, I will have no problems with the artwork. Then again, overseas outsourcing from the first episode.. I'm beginning to have second thoughts.

Ending song by Ali Project. Something tells me one song per season from them is enough, let's not overdo a good thing. Misato Aki does a nice job with the opening song. Kawasumi Ayako, 'nuff said.

As with most TBS shows, I'm going to wait for the BS-i widescreen airing for storage purposes.

Would appreciate if the mods can add the Japanese title Kaibutsu Oujo in parentheses to the the thread title, to prevent anyone from creating a new thread becuase they couldn't find the title using the search function.

The short version is: I was very unimpressed.

It's entirely too bright and colorful while the piano music too fanciful and too many busty maids wandering around for me to take it seriously as a gothic horror. And the animation is nowhere near good enough to be an entertaining action show. And Yuuji... er... Hiro... is seriously ripped straight from some bad harem show, complete with exasperated scream when Hime tells him that he's stuck with her which belongs more in... say... Tokimemo than... whatever this was trying to be.

Maybe the source gets better? But as far as first episodes go, this was a pretty unimpressive one.

A question that might be considered silly from different perspective, but I must ask: What exactly is so great about Ali Project?

As for the episode itself, not very impressed.

Music is uninspiring. The loli is too strong. Busty airhead onesan is likable but she seems to be unimportant to the show. The hero, well, let's not go there. All in all, a pretty uninspiring first episode.

Arrghh... What a letdown. Manga is such a strict follower of Dokuro-chan traditions, but those animators completely removed all the blood&gore that gave such a fresh feeling to the manga, changing it for some stupid energy or something.
I'm very, very dissappointed. :(

P.S. It should have been an OVA.

The show is okay. Kawasumi Ayako is fantastic -- again. The princess is an interesting character. Fortunately I haven't seen the manga and can't be as disappointed as others. This isn't a show I'm going to follow, but it's got some hooks. The loli-mecha is good. And I like the sister, too: beautifully blind and blase.

Finally got around to watching the first one. Quite disappointing to say the least. They toned down the gore and anything related to blood which I wouldn't mind except that's quite a big part of the series. The blood workaround for Hime and Hiro should be interesting to see especially later on:heh: Anyway I'll probably keep watching until they introduce... Hime's little sister Sherwood and Francesca.

Well I saw snippets of the raw I downloaded a while back(didn't want to completely spoil myself lol). At least from what I've seen and from what yall have been saying, I'm a bit disappointed as well. But like most animes, the first eps may not always show what is to come. I've been expecting this anime for to long, for it fail :(

Personally, I don't mind the gore missing, although it would be a plus, but I just hope the anime as a hole has't gone done the toilet with teh gore.

Also, whats the deal with the really bad raws coming out for this anime?

Its not that I want blood for the sake of blood, its just that part of a series like this is the shock from the depiction of the violence and brutality. If thats been taken out in a noticable way than the series has lost a part of itself.

Having not seen the raw yet I can't make too many comments but if the censorship gets in the way of enjoyment then I can at least scrap one anime off the long list that I'm watching this season. And I was really looking forward to this one :upset:

Yep, they make this manga conversion terribly light! Blood and gore, the best part of the manga, is completely missing!
Ikkitousen DD is censored too, but is a kind of censorship that can be easy removed for the dvd version, in this case they should remake pratically entire scenes, so i guess is impossible!

It's not the removed gore that's the worst part. They've changed the resurrection conditions, from drinking the Hime' blood to some ridiculous energy manipulation.
Giving blood is an act of sacrifice, of hurting oneself, especially if she has to wound herself every day to keep Hero alive - and casting magic is just a whim.
Furthermore, scenes like this

become completely impossible, and that completely wrecks Hime’s cruel joker character.
Also, one can extract the blood out of its owner without his consent - and that’s impossible with magic, so another aspect is lost. We can say "sayonara" to one of the best scenes of the vampire arc.

Yeah. To everyone talking about the censorship: I wholeheartedly agree.
At some times I don;t think gore is necessary.

But for this manga manga........the gore is not all necessary. But goddamn cool and entertaining and therefore I would like to say "no censorship please".

The first episode was ................OK-Boring. At most. The animation seems too simple at times (fighting mostly, single shots of Fran+Hime fighting wolves......the manga is better than that)

Though I have to say. I'm addicted to the opening theme song (though not suprising cause I like Aki Misato).

They've changed the resurrection conditions, from drinking the Hime' blood to some ridiculous energy manipulation.

I misread, its not a raw, its fansub by a group called LC(Lucky-channel) on highway. Sry for the mistake I made earlier.

BT hates my router, but as soon as they UL to their bots, I will have comments on their release.

At least from what I gathered, there is still no good raw out for this anime.

Well after watching the anime subbed, I'm a bit disappointed. The animation felt cheap in a lot of areas. So cheap that you would say "LOL thats cheap" instantly. I'm not going to bash the anime on plot just yet, because I haven't looked at the manga, but I did find EPS 1 quite boring. I think the only highlight out of eps for me was Furra Chan(the ultra-strong loli). I chuckled every time I saw her :P

I will say this about LC release, I didn't like it to much quality wise, so my summary may be skewed abit.

I'm hoping for other subs of this one. The person/group that subbed this episode had English as a second language, which resulted in occasional word-choice and structure oddities, and the gothic font didn't help on the legibility front...

Still, I'm hoping for another episode soon, for both this one AND the other one folks mix this one up with.

I think it doesn't matter, except that the first subbers need a touch more practice in distinguishing between singular and plural forms, and some minor concept translation. (It was still a good effort though, and I commend them for a good job. The group that subbed the later episodes of Fighting Beauty Wulong could learn a bit from them.) ;)

The latest group to sub this made it much more understandable, and the result is a regular laugh riot! :D

"Princess Resurrection" is, IIRC, the title of the first volume (or was it first story arc? one of those) of the manga (and the title of episode 1 of the anime). I believe that since it was the only thing written in English anywhere in that manga, some Japanese people just took it to be the "official" English title of the manga and wrote that on wikis and such... and, well, such information goes viral once it reaches the overseas anime community.

"Princess Resurrection" is indeed its OFFICIAL English title. Everyone who has his/her doubt can see the covers of manga in the first and second posts of the thread, they use the title for ALL 3 vols of manga.

Edit: just checked Amazon.jp, vol. 4 is out which also uses the title "Princess Resurrection."

I was fully aware if that. I was just saying before the anime aired, andib and many other places referred to Kaibutsuo Oujo to its english title for a while(Princess Resurrection). It only recently started being refered to KO/Monster princess

RNA has released their version of KO. The editing is a bit better and you can read the fonts this time. When I watched RNA version, I truly felt I was watching a different anime. I'd recommend that version for ppl who haven't gotten a hold of eps 1 yet.

I just watched ep1, and i think i picked a bad groups version >.<

I have LC's, and the red and white subs hurt my eyes, also they were dificult to read at times because they were crushed together and seemed to small. Added to that there were a few times when the subs came and went before i had a chance to read them, kinda spoiling it for me.

That said, since ive not read the manga, im not overly fussed by the censoring. I suppose it depends on how many eps its going to be. If it a 12/13 ep series they probably cut it down to try and get everything in. Also anime rarely follows the manga, most end up going off in their own direction, and its usually totaly different to the manga. While i certainly keep hoping and praying for an anime to follow a manga properly, ive stopped letting it get to me.

One thing i noticed on the animation was that it was off at times, especially with the hands. In the last scene where he's on the towere roof i wonder if it hurts having a hammer impaled through his hand heheh.

So far this season ive not been impressed by any of the shows, most are watchable with fun elements (like HA and Claymore), but none have reached out grabbed me by the throat and demanded i watch them :)

As for the whole Princess Ressurection/Monster Princess thing. Dose it really matter? Perhapse Princess Ressurection was the working title for the show and it leaked and stuck. Even so its a title that does fit with the show, i mean she does keep ressurecting him >.<

Oh well, back to the claymore manga for me, i HIGHLY recommend people read THAT manga, im loving it.

Lol....LC's subtitles is really hard to read. That I gotta agree. Well, I'm definitely sticking to this series. The reason is simple. Because the seiyuu for Hime is Kawasumi Ayako! I've been watching all the animes she'd voiced in since Fate/Stay Night and I find that there are times when Hime do sound like Saber:p .

Btw, I have one very stupid question. What's wrong with the mangaka or script writer nowadays? Why do they enjoy turning princesses into some sort of....murderer/monster!? I just watched Murder Princess a week ago and now there's Monster Princess!?

I wouldnt say the show is ruined. If you've read the manga then no matter what they did you'd find something to bitch about, whether its changes in personality, plot, char development, or censoring. Since no anime follows the manga all the way. They ALWAYS end up goping off in odd directions, even ones that are supposedly faithful to the manga; like AMG.

It's not the best anime ive seen, but its far from the worst this season *cough*Touka Gettan*cough*

my only gripe with it was the subs being to damned hard to read, cause LC went for a flashy sub, and failed >.< And the dodgy animation at times.

Plot wise it looks like its going to be another generic master/servant thingm which im a bit bored of now. But i definatly wouldnt say the series is ruined, atleast until ive seen the 3rd or 4th ep

As for the hime being a monster/murderer, i like it. It's a different twist. Rather than having her being a holier than thou personality or the usual spoiled brat coming back as a hero, right from the outset she's a demon; and she dosent care :)

Ok, seen the second episode. Except for the things already mentioned(missing blood) everything else is straight from the manga, without any other significant changes. It seems that Hero no longer has blood in his veins, and - as I feared - energy is a poor substitute that gave off a very wierd feeling. I'm not following this show or anything, but I saw a screencap of that "energy" Seemed like it could be something that they did for TV and they'll replace it with blood on the DVDs.

Anyway, I'd like to reiterate, there is another group called RNA (on rizon )who came out with eps 1 today. Its much better then LC version, editing wise, but the font could be bigger on their version as well. Still, you can still read it easily.

Yeah... people have complained about that a little bit. Guess other people have different opinions than mine as far as what constitutes a legible font size that doesn't cover up too much background detail... no biggie, though -- consider font sizes increased.

Well, it also added Hiro helping a little girl find a balloon which was not in the manga. They used that as a device to show Hiro running out of life energy and Hime renewing it again.

Finally found some time to check the subs. Lucky Channel's choice of the fonts is a real puzzle to me, as their karaoke is completely unreadable.
From the OP and ED songs I think that the songwriters weren't informed of the change.

If nothing else, this show is wonderful poster material. especially if you happen to circulate among gamers, because there are so many possible World of Darkness in-jokes.

The guy's sister in particular reminds me of what would happen were you to feed a steady dose of Quaaludes to Kasumi Tendo. Only with much bigger ta-tas.

I mean, wouldn't most professional domestics be at least somewhat perturbed when the house they work at burns to the ground?

I watch through the ending just for this scene lol, cracks me up :P

The subtitles are okay for the ED, the toptitles are hard to read because they are two differnt static colors and that dark red gots to go.(if they bothered to use ASS or AE it wouldn't be much of a problem eitherway)

This show is great.

I completely agree. This series has managed to make me LOL with each episode, just because it's so crazy. Furan is really what does it for me - I love the idea of a cute little (invincible, robot) maid running around, deflecting chainsaw attacks with her hand, helping to build a house, all the while saying only "huga huga". She somehow reminds me of Uzura from Princess Tutu.

As an added note, if I were holding a balloon when I fell out of a tree, I definitely wouldn't still be holding it when I hit the ground. And if I were the little girl who wanted someone to get a balloon out of a tree for me, and they end up falling and hitting the ground while still holding the balloon, I would grab the balloon first and then run off. :p

Finally, I got the chance to watch episode one. I was looking forward to Kaibutsu Oujo for a long while since I stopped reading the manga.

All I can say is that this start was neither good not bad either. Given the violent and bloody content in the manga, I knew and was expecting a lot of censoring and donwplaying. However, I found it ludicrous that they changed the overall scope of content to avoid depicting graphic violence at all.

First, Hime's power to bring forth corpses to life. In the manga she feeds her blood to Hiro, but in the anime she blows on him a fire of life.

The anime is going for the metaphysical and mystic side to the properties of Hime's magic.

What I found actually ridiculous is that there was no traces of blood or bloodshed when Hime made quick work of Wildman, and Hiro getting punched through by Wildman.

Yet, they did show a blood stain on Hiro's back of his shirt, and this is what I found ludicrous and unbelievable.

I really do not think this title should deserve such unbelievable censorship airing in a time slot way past midnight.

My other complain will be the changes that they did to Hime's character.

In the manga she is mischievous and cynical always enjoying for the chance to draw blood.
When she fed Hiro her blood for a second time she gave him to choose for himself whether to eventually die or serve her for eternity.

In the anime I noticed that she's frivolous and uncaring unless a ripe chance comes to her feet. I felt she took advantage of Hiro's becoming a corpse in order to get a useful and loyal servant at her disposal. She calculated it to come to a ripe to make use of him against Wildman.
And when Hiro was dying for a second chance she gave him no choice but to be her servant, unless he would had wanted to return to be a lifeless corpse without her magic charge.
If Hime tastes blood is to annoy her assasins that she doesn't fear anyone and not because she toys with the thoughts of shedding the blood of her enemies, like in the manga.

And also I am not forgetting, that for the anime she became quite aggresive to get what she longs or getting things done on the manner she expect for them.

Aside from that I am not complaining way too much for the animation. I cannot deny the fact that the colors are too grim, and the characters themselves seem lifeless.
They feel just as the introduced characters who get the story to move and that's all.

I would really have wished for the animators to give an eerie lighting to Hime's eyes so as they would look demonic shining with a crimson flash of blood, instead of just opaque red.
Her eyes is what captivates me first about her.

I really have doubts whether or not Ayako Kawasumi was a good idea for voicing Hime. Her voice seems too attached and generic, concerned on what she reads in the script than instead contributing her personality to Hime's character to give her that radiance, so as the character herself can come to life.

What entices me about the anime is the soundtrack. Everything gothic wins me over, and the soundtrack to the series is no exception.

There are themes or motifs which sound Psycho -esque and quite few others coming from the macabre and the bizarre straight from the Addam's Family.

The opening theme, BLOOD QUEEN, is average but not mediocre. The video and the song fit well to the series, but after listening to the ending, Hizamazuite Ashi o Oname, I felt like almost fainting in pure blissdom. No thoughts crossed my mind that ALI Project would be involved for the music department to the anime.

But they did, and I am glad for it. I love their songs and style, since being introduced to them with Noir's Ending, Coppelia na Hitsugi. From them on, I became a devout fan to the group.

Opinion about first episode: Animation shabby and generic. Too much creative liberties taken that alter the scope of the manga. Characters not radiating with enough life. But an amazing soundtrack that fits well with the Goth and black humor mood of the anime.

Not sure what to think of this one after two episodes. The premise and the characters have some great potential, but so far the actual content has been pretty "meh".

I guess none of the characters have really stuck with me yet...The loli robots cute but pretty plain...The poor bastard kid that got dragged into this doesnt even come off as that much of a loser just a really average kid that was in the wrong place at the wrong time..."Nee-san" I guess is suppose to be funny that she doesnt really seem to care about anything, but it leaves her character one dimensional.

As for the princess herself shes about the most interesting out of all of them, but even shes not given much in the way of development so far. I guess I was hoping for more or something hah...Still gonna stick with it though because like I said earlier I think the basic ideas of the story could make a pretty enjoyable show. ;)

Already watched episode two.

Again, the animation quality and story was so-so.

The episode was adapted from chapter two of the manga, which I was looking forward with great expectations.

I cry in joy seeing Hime at last wielding the chainsaw, but it did turn me off the changes done in the scope to prevent the violence.

The fight with the Invisible Man in the manga made me cringe and with cold goosebumps in my stomach, because Hiro got mostly hacked or slash by Hime or leaving body parts in all places due to getting stuck with the wires.
Those scenes made me uneasy but at the same time made laugh insanely for such wise mood of black humor.

Unfortunately, the anime radically changes the atmosphere and tames the violence factor nonstop. Because Hiro is feed with flames of life, his body may get pound or grinded but doesn't fall to pieces.:(

The other changes made were the overall tone of the fight.
In the manga Hiro arrived the mansion when the Invisible Man already broke in before, and Hime was stucked all day with chainsaw in hand fighting for her very survival to kill the intruder.

The anime has Hime expecting the arrival of an assassin and look out to hunt him. She was very aggressive and paranoid not minding to split Hiro in halves, if Invisible Man happened to be at the same room.
In the manga Hiro mostly got hacked by Hime due to his very bad timing or being at the wrong spot in the wrong time.

The third change revolves around Hiro's resurrection. When the half-immortaliy runs out manga Hiro instinctively craves to be fed the blood of Hime. It is true that Hime tells Hiro he has no other choice but to protect her from the assasins, because if she dies there won't be anybody else to revive him.

However, in the manga it is Hiro who goes to Hime's side even if it is unconsciously.

In the anime Hime imposes upon Hiro no other fate but to remain as her servant, since his flame runs out periodically and only her can lit it up back. Basically, anime Hime longs for anything convenient and she always get away with it.

The soundtrack continues to amaze me. It's got a distinctive quality of the Tim Burtons' films music.

From episode three and then onwards everything will be new to me, since I have only read up to chapter two of the manga, therefore, I do not know past that point what happens in the story.

so more assassins come and attack hime...while the fightingwasnt spectacular it was interesting to see a chainsaw wielding maniac :heh: hiro finally understands that he will die if he doesnt protect her (and it was pretty cool of him to grab the guys face...and what a time for the chainsaw to be acting up :heh:)

burning down the mansion was a bit extreme but our orihime clone here didnt seem to mind one bit :heh:

I rather like the series. Though it could seriously use a bit of blood here and there. I don't know why it has "horror" listed among it's genres. Black comedy, yes. Horror - no way. It doesn't have the atmosphere to be one.

Overall good for some craziness. I am sticking with this one.

Blood and Gore does not Horror make. Quite the reverse, in fact. Vampire Princess Miyu, one of the greatest and creepiest horror animes ever made, was not gory at all even in OVA. But it was disturbing, in ways almost beyond the capacity of human beings to grasp.

Although there are a lot of horror series in anime with Lovecraft's influence, Monster Princess gets the essence right; that the world is a strange and terrible place, and that you're much better off having no idea how strange and terrible it is. Hime quotes Lovecraft when she revived Hiroshi, and the callous disregard with which she views humans (and the knowledge that her opponents are even worse) is very much in line with that level of thinking; it may be uncomfortable to think that somebody out there hates us, but it's even worse to know there's somebody out there who couldn't care less.

In fact, Hime's character seems to bear a strong resemblance to that of Nyarlyhotep (if you've ever read The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath you'll know what I mean; Nyarly is the soul and mind of beings of infinite power but no souls or minds of their own, and it only deigns to notice human beings when it wants something or they choose to annoy it -- humans aren't even worth the trouble of liking or disliking, any more than we pay much attention to the welfare of ants unless they bother us).

Indeed. But it helps :D ... or rather - i feel it would help a bit in this case. Or maybe not... the mood is not fitting for a horror anyway, blood or not. It is just that i am annoyed with "no blood" in scenes such as Hime cutting the wolves with her sword or similar.

Blood wouldn't make this a horror, but it would help a bit with creating the atmosphere, even if that is not intended to be horror.

From the few chapters I read it was definitely missing the blood. Nobody would realize she is more like a vampire than anything since the blood is missing. Also episode 1 did not portray her as the sick twisted monster she really is. But I would tell you I think I would rather die than serve her personally.

I don't know will have to watch another episode or 2 to see if I will watch it or not.

finally we are introduced to a new half woman half warewolf girl called lisa ~ she is the sister of the guy who was killed by hime in the first ep ~ and wanting revenge she goes on a hunt to find her (which was pretty easy with the help of hiro :rolleyes)
as far as the action goes its still medicore ~ i still dont understand how the series can be classed as horror but what the heck :p its seriously missing a spooky plot or any blood dammit! >.<

it seems to me that hime does not have any set weapons which she can use with skill...she just literally picks up anything lying around in her mansion and swings it around neither displaying garce or skill >.< but her secret weapon has to be the loli of mass destruction...the mansion didnt even last a week and it is trashed again :heh:

hiro is still the human meat wall...will the guy ever get a bigger role? :rolleyes: and i laughed quite a bit when hime just left him unconcious and went home XD

well in the end lisa finds out the truth about her brother's death and even though she still doesnt like hime looses the will to kill her...and hiro might have just increased his girl count by one :D

They don't have to. If what I saw in the first two episodes is any indication, she can probably interface with machines to a degree; certainly enough to depress the gas pedal by itself (and for what she's doing, she doesn't NEED the brake....)

The series does make a sort of twisted sense, especially when you realize that the physical laws of the universe exist primarily to mess with Hiroshi.

This show is all kinds of wierd. Reminds me of The Addams Family in some ways. The less logic you try to apply, the more you can just enjoy it for what it is, hehe.

Those are my thoughts. In addition, the isolated mansion at the top of my hill either remind me to Karin Maaka's home or the mansion of Ed Scissorhand's. The archetype example of the goth hous: gloomy, rundown on the outside, desserted, reeking with the smell of death (pretty ironic for saying that), and unwelcoming.

I found out that episode three delivered quite of the best gags and one-liners, concerning Frandoll to please Hime in regards to bring her a servant.:heh:

She brought the dead cat first and then the dead rat for Hime to revive.:heh:

For episode three I quite learned that in spite of being quite capricious and which her selfishness shamlessly knows no boundaries, Hime does have indeed a sense of honor.

Hime could have come with dozens of cheap tactics to give herself an opening against Liza or take advantage of Lisa's grief and rage regarding Wildman.

There were at least two chances present on which Lisa wavered and stopped to which Hime could have taken advantage of, but she did not.

After replaying episode one, Hime did gave Wildman a couple of seconds to spare and wait him to turn around to face her, then she delivered the killing blow. Therefore, from an Obi-Wan perspective Hime told Liza the truth that she killed Wildman literally on the front.

What I understand now is that if you treat Hime with courtesy she will treat you with the same courtesy.

Wildman issued a challenge to Hime for a one-on-one match. She treated him as a honorable werewolf-warrior and kill him by all fair means.

Liza broke in without warning and without invitation. She started to attack Hime out of the blue for revenge, and once realizing Hime's physical weakness she would not let pass her golden opportunity to dispose of her like trash.

Therefore, it is obvious that Hime counter, although it was unexpected even for her, having Frandol giving chase to Lisa with the whole truck and trying to run her over.

At the end, Hime chose to fulfill Wildman's will and spare Lisa since she was fought by the former for the sake of protecting his sister. I guess that by sparing Lisa Hime paid off her debt to Wildman, since he challenged her with honor.

Some other interesting notes:

There is indeed a herierarchy of "monsters", in which the werewolves play a specified, clear role. Hence how important te concept of honor is both to Wildman and to Liza. Wildman may have been giving in to blackmal by accepting the order to kill Hime, but I suspect that failing, and dying, would have been a better result from his perspective than success because, even though he may now be dead, his dillema has been resolved and his honor salvaged.

Makes me who told Liza about the death of her brother, and what she was told. She may have been given a very different story of the incident.

I read Hime's fretting about needing more servants as a fear that she's going to need a virtual army of near-immortals -- most of whom are better at fighting than Hiroshi -- to survive her feud with her brother. Apparnetly giving Hiroshi some sort of training is either not something she considers worthwhile, or something she has no time for -- when your house is getting wrecked all the time and you can't hire masons and carpenters, someone's got to be Fix-It-san.

One wonders, though, whether Hime finds the idea of doing anything at all for herself utterly offensive. Though the monsters we've met all refer to her as a 'royal", one wonders if she could even survive without someone to cook for her.

Prepared Durian is, I am told, one of the most delicious fruits on earth. (Haven't tried it myself). The problem is the odor it gives off until you peel it, which has been compared unfavorably to aged manure.

A parfait made with the fruit probably wouldn't give off any odor, especially if prepared by someone experienced.

Episode 4 introduces a lot of major changes from the manga, from additional fanservice to increasing Hero's part in it. Both Hime and Hero are also more warrior-like.
Too bad the animation went down the drain...

another somewat medicore ep tbh ~ while i do love the development with lisa i really think that there is a need for more substance >.< but its still watchable just not totally enjoyable ~ i really like some of the "comedy" bits together with frandol...when she said "huga" while drowning that was classic! :heh:

as the plot goes hime has a new servent...and lisa seems to be taking a liking to hiro :3 but this could be a bad mistake...

oh and at least there is an explination for hiro not drowning...hes immortal! :heh:

Tv episode 4 is the chapter 5 of the manga, the animators ignore completely chapter 4 (mad doctor and zombies in the hospital), apart for the frandol reload scene! What a pity, was a very violent and horrifying chapter! Bah... :mad:

The way the anime has been refusing to show things like blood may show they don't want the show to get too violent. Plus, that chapter is probably unnecessary for the overall storyline. They're actually skipping chapter 6 (Princess Alliance), which is more important... but I think they may introduce that later since I see those characters in the opening or ending.

Episode 5 was the worst one so far - and not surprisingly, since it suffered the heaviest from lack of blood.
Hero's voice this time was sounding too girly, not like a boy at all.
I didn't like the choice of VA for Reiri - too grown-up, she should've sounded like another version of Hime.

What the hell was Reiri drinking? HE HAS NO BLOOD IN HIS VEINS!
Using a garlick was a poor choice to stop Hero(in the manga she used her usual rapier, so that's a no-brainer).
We lost so many great moments - Reiri's flying pantsu, Hero kissing Hime and the wonderful huge shot of blood she took from Reiri.
Well, as expected this wasn't good at all. Hope next week's one will be better.

Well I really like the series and I agree that manga will be worth reading after watching the anime. Delray is JUST starting to bring it out too so it will be awhile before it all comes out.

I also agree with the bringing out of the characters. They are coming fast and furious so that the main themes in the anime can be gotten too I guess. Who really knows I just want to sit back and enjoy the ride, even with all its faults I am really enjoying it.

Aww... crap! I was looking forward to Kaibutsu Oujo since I've been hearing a lot of good stuff about the manga (and from what I've seen of the manga, it looks quite promising), but after reading this thread - realizing that they've censored all that tasty blood and gore - well... let's just say that I don't have to waste a lot of willpower to let those unwatched episodes on my HDD remain unwatched for the time being. I guess I'll pile 'em up and watch them on a rainy sunday or something. :rolleyes:

I know that it's been said several times in this thread already, but I can't put a lid on this; why the HELL do they remove the blood and gore from an adaptation of a manga such as this one? And why the hell is it aired in the middle of the night when it's already heavily censored? I think the guy responsible for the airing-time and those producing the anime didn't really talk to eachother at all.

Network: "Ohh, a show with a lot of blood and gore... let's air it in the middle of the night"

Madhouse: "Ohh, let's make some profit. Let's censore all that is vital to the show so that we can squeeze as much cash as possible out of a target audience as young as possible. What do you mean 'those following the manga will get pissed due to their expectations for the show'? Screw them, my wife needs new boobs, and the children of this nation will pay for them with their lunch-money."

EDIT: Okay, hehe... I guess I kinda lost it there. Well, I just wanted to say that blood and gore ain't something that I usually look for in an anime, but given the source material in this case (the manga) it simply pisses me off that they chose to do it this way. I was actually glad when I heared that Madhouse was doing this one, and I really didn't expect to end up wishing that some other studio would've produced it instead. Don't get me wrong, I'll give it a shot anyhow, but not right now. I'll wait until the last episode has been aired. =P

It's been a while since the last fansub was out, but thanks to Lucky-Channel for their releases.

Episode four was ok, there was some good and black humor in it. At least to me, my favorite character is Liza. Her transforming arms power rocks, and she was too hot and sexy in that bathing robe.

I have not read much about the manga past the second chapte, but I can sense that Hime was made docile in the anime.

Sincerely, with all that violence and blunt-force trauma where is the blood?

The sixth episode to Claymore had a steady amount of blood bath, but Resurrection Princess was stripped off its bloody charm when turned into an anime.

It is official that Hiro has become the punching bag for all supernatural girls to take him and do what they please to him.:eyespin:

The music doesn't stop to amaze. I particularly am pretty much fond of the acoustic violin arrays due that they give a psychoesque tone to some of the tracks.

I am an ecchi person! I enjoy the ending, waiting with baited breath for Liza to get down with the beat, while everyone keeps time... The helter-skelter insane music is fun to listen to, as well.

I am thankful I've never read the manga, so I can enjoy this show anyway, kind of the way folks could watch the Addams Family TV show, having not read the cartoon with it's darker off-beat humor.

All I have to say about episode 5 is Noto Mamiko Kawaii Yo!!:love: :love:

Now I have to pick-up favorite characters again and vote for Reiri.

Hime and Reiri are the girl types that with just the slightest movement of their fingers make all the boys bend on their knees before them.

But Reiri is more classy and has this slight snobbish aura that makes you to see her but never to touch her. Coupled with Noto-san's voice, she's got a powerful charm that even I fell for her.

I do feel terribly bad that we are no longer getting the crude, visceral, dark humor from the manga. Miss the chance to see Hiro scattering his body parts everywhere. But at least I'm sticking up to Kaibutsu Oujo until the end due to Reiri's arrival.

Is straight from Lovecraft, it's a quote from the Necronomicon. The animators are setting themselves up for high expectations if they are going to try to riff off of Lovecraft.

It is a rather Lovecraftian story. Notice what Hime was reading in Episode 4?

I've mentioned that Hime actually reminds me a lot, in terms of personality, of Nyarlyhotep. It's not that she dislikes humans or is inimical to their interests; she just doesn't care.

Well, episode 6 was one of the heavier edited ones.
Not only was it missing two of my favourite scenes, the logic of it suffered as well

We didn't see how Hime teasingly feeds Hero http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/6608/02009xm7.jpg, and her sister's claim for him is left unfounded - she didn't feed him her blood or resurrect him any other way.

Can't say I exactly enjoyed it - it lacked the tension from the manga, and the original bits added were mostly rehashing of what we already know about their relationships.
Next week we return to another earlier chapter(hospital), I'm interested to know how addition of Reiri and Liza will affect it.

Well honestly I was about to drop this one until they introduced reira. Most of its because mamiko noto (Yakumo, matsuri) is doing her voice, but I also quite enjoy her character. Has alittle more intrigue and depth to her compared to the rest who come off abit shallow.

Still would be nice to see alittle blood though. :p

The animation for episode six was terrible.

It is a little surprising or not at all that Sherwood picked up Hiro.

A golden rule in anime is that the naive, nice, but stupid, weakling boy gets picked up by the strong female lead and subsequently, by other girls who are either malicious or short-tempered.

I can only come up that Hime accepted the alliance, because she wants to find out how Sherwood managed to survive all this time and escaping her brother's wrath.
Of course, I do take in consideration that she has Francisca as her bodyguard, but the other siblings as well employ more powerful monsters.

but im rather disappointed at how predictable it has all become...the doctor's actions where soo obvious that hes drawing out time to be attacked its unbelievable and when i want hiro to be sliced up i want to see him sliced up...no the doctor's groans or whatnot...

the other thing that ive learnt watching this ep is that frandol is a portable battery :heh:

In this world, what would happen if a Vampire (like Reiri) drained the blood of a Royal (like Hime)? Obviously Royals can die (otherwise Hime's brother wouldn't be going to so much trouble to kill her -- he's assuming that if he succeeds, she'll stay dead and be out of his hair for good). Would Reiri gain all of Hime's powers, including the power to revive Hiroshi? Or would she simply have had a really excellent meal (in which case poor Hiroshi is screwed).

Of course, in this setup Hiroshi is pretty much screwed anyway, regardless of the outcome. (And for those who say "But maybe he'll find a way he likes, I'm pretty sure that the revivial process and the changes that have resulted have pretty much put paid to his sex drive -- even assuming Hime doesn't at some point forget the manbits when reassembling him at some point). At least she got to him before the autopsy -- that would have been really bad news for the guy. The main reason people don't object to autopsies is that they're, well, dead. If one must systematically dissect a human being, waiting for them to actually die is the considerate thing to do.

at last an interesting ep :D though still no blood so ive given up all hope on it already...but freaky multieyed bug type monsters are a substitute :p

as the story goes there is a horrible storm and hime, lisa and hiro are forced into taking shelter in a motel due to the roads being blocked off...(and lisa is horrible at driving btw :p)

No doubt about it -- Hiro is surrounded by bitches. And the actual bitch is the nicest of the lot.

After seeing episode 6 (the last one I have subtitled), it's clear that

Sherwood, the little girl, has already achieved her masters degree in the fine art of bitchcraft. I'm sure that despite whatever alliance she is making against that mysterious brother of theirs, her ultimate goal remains the hideously painful death of Hime. And making life as miserable for her sister as possible in the meanwhile while not killeing her before she's useful.

Not that there's that much at stake for the mortals in the cast -- it's clear to me that whoever wins this family blood feud, Mankind loses, in the sense that whoever is the winner has enough power to enslave Humanity without so much as raising an eyebrow -- if they even think it would be worth the trouble keeping the stupid little apes around to begin with. Taking sides between Hime and Sherwood is like being asked to take sides between Dagon and Cthulhu. Whoever wins, you're sushi.

is it just or me or does Lisa have a thing for Hiro because we see her blushing alot with him and get jealous of Reiri whenever she gets close to him not saying something will happen (even though i wish that is does).

He's the (sort-of-undead) hero of a harem anime. Of course she has a thing for him!

And personally, I'm hoping something like that does happen. Something like that might finally force Hime to treat the guy with a little respect (because if she doesn't she'll have a berserk were-woman on her hands at a very, very inconvenient time).

Full of vampire bats...

Hiro goes help Sherwood with her moving in to her own mansion and Francesca brings a panda from the zoo to the mansion... Panda gets a crush on Francesca (though she's not to happy) and tries to prove to her that he could be useful (and stay). Failure. Then, lots of giant vampire bats appear and Hiro and Francesca fight them off (Sherwood wanted to fight too, but Francesca doesn't want her too). Ryu Ryu (the panda) tries to fight too, but he's just useless. Nearly gets killed trying to protect Sherwood too (though Sherwood lets him stay at her mansion because he tried). Hime, Lisa, and Flandre to the rescue.

it was a pretty nice ep and serenade pretty much summerized everything ~
the bat monsters were sent by Zeppeli and Reiri acted as an informat by going over to hime and telling her that sherwood was in danger...i still cant understand reiri's objective as she is still mysterious in her ways...but one things for sure...shes not helping zeppeli but rather trying to decieve him...

oh my god O.o did anyone else think that love was in the air? :p seeing some love sparks going on between Ciel and frandol ~ basically frandol finds this stray android who she takes back and fixes up...at first he seems like a really nice guy but i could have guessed what was to follow...it turns out that he was controlled by Zeppeli to catch hime...Francesca comes to save the day and we had some mecha fight action (okey only the sound effects :heh:) ~ in the end he blows himeself up together with Zeppeli ~ though i doubt that is the last we will see of him...
