First monir and now Hunter. Suddenly the new moderators are coming out of the woodwork! While Hunter's new situation was slightly delayed by a quirk of timezoning, I am equally happy to announce that Hunter is now a Super Moderator and I am very pleased to be welcoming him to the team.

Congrats Hunter.

PS. This thread will be closed tomorrow. Hunter is encouraged to do the closing himself. :D

Congratulations.

I just use this thread for a little crittism though: It's nothing against the people, however personally I think it's a wrong thing to have this many super moderators, and nearly no regular moderators. IMHO there should be a multiple of regular moderators compared to the super moderators.
Like I wrote: It' nothing against the people, more about the general concept. :innocent:

Haha. Congrats Hunter. :D I'm usre you put up a good fight before they nailed you.

@ Whitemoon648 - They are supermoderators hence they will be responsible for everything.

@ The Small One - you mean so the devide and conquer stratagy works better :) I would like to think they organise themselfs that way, but remmembering how Catgirls was always all over the place working hard (for me he will always be the best super moderator here :P), I have my doubts.

I know exactly what you mean. I agree that it makes no sense when you look at it that way and it bothered me also for a while that we weren't making enough regular mods. Then I came to look at it in another light.

The people we chose were culled from everyone on the forum because we really do believe that they are the best for the job. In truth we mulled over these choices for a truly ridiculous length of time. In the end, to limit their effectiveness to a single forum would be a waste of their ability. Perhaps that makes sense, but we are confident that they will grow into moderators worthy of helping out the entire forum. So why limit them now?

With that said, I agree it would make sense to chose moderators for each and every forum. The problem is that our review process is too exhaustive. If we became less critical and quicker to decide then it would become practical.

With the Naruto anime returning to its manga storyline this is a smart move.

Hunter-san. I'm expecting you to punish any spoilers with a good old spooning!

FEAR THE SPOONING FROM THE HUNTER-SAN!

There's a practical reason why we no longer have many Moderators but lots of Super Moderators and it's due to the way the forum s/w works (or at least the way vB has set up the default permissions for Moderators).

It can be a real nuisance being a Moderator because you are limited to actions only within the forums you moderate. So this means that if you see some advertising spam in another forum you can do nothing about it. If you see a thread in an incorrect forum (that isn't one that you moderate) then you cannot move it to the correct location. The list goes on and on.

To make life easier for our Mods, it makes more sense to create Super Moderators so they have access to all the forums and can perform the actions as needed. We could have modified the Moderator permissions to allow a greater reach but why not just make the person a Super Moderator.

Now there is the question of making such mendicants as monir and Hunter Super Moderators immediately but that's another kettle of fish :)

That's exactly the reason, why I think it would be better to use normal moderators (and then of course more of them). In this case the (powerless) moderator obviously had to notice the responsible moderator, because he isn't competent.

IMHO it's a bad choice to give people more power than they need, specifically: Give them only mod rights for the forums they moderate.
Besides: I think if someone still has a life outside the internet, he probably only visits a specific subset of the forums in the first place and doesn't even have the time to patrol everything, so why give them power for everything?
Or comparing it with the real world: A policeman is only responsible for his specific district, while he has nothing to say in other areas.

Well, maybe I'm just paranoid... :heh:

I personally fail to see your point. A policeman can go anyware and arest people or help in the cleanup. It's not like Moderators are suppose to be like a SWAT team. (altho the thought is amusing)

I trust monir's judgement and opinions and I like Hunter's attitude in general, I think they're trust worthy enough to leave them roam freely in the forum.

As for your other argument, don't you think you're doing more harm then good with that philozophy. If the moderators were to compeet with each other what are the chances that they will over react in a situation, you can't just be all idialistic and presume that they will only copy the good.

The only thing they need to do is to always rememeber what it means to be a member and take care in what they say and do when they moderate. (especially when they're dealing with inocent n00bies)

I see what you're saying, and it would certainly work better on a fast-moving board with TONS of subforums.

In such a case, it would simply be too much work to keep up with more than one or two of the forums to keep them spam-free.

But, as far as I can see in the forums I tend to visit, that really isn't the case. ASuki doesn't seem to have much of a spam or flame problem (if there is one, then that's sharp modding, because I don't see it).

And as for the 'cop' analogy, the supermods aren't getting horribly overworked because all the supermods get to watch over all the forums, so it's not like one person is being asked to look over x many subforums on her own.

But congrats to Hunter! Fear the banning spoon! http://www.gusstevenson.com/film/images/spoon.jpg

I already wrote, that it's not the persons I criticise, but more the general concept.

It's not a matter of competition. More like someone from forum A doesn't necessarily know what's common/normal in Forum B, if he doesn't usually read it.
For example someone who only watches One Piece is able judge what is a spoiler for this series, however he could not do the same thing for Naruto. Giving such a person the power to delete posts, without giving him the knowledge which posts are deleteable (here: spoilers) is risky.
Imaging someone reporting a post, wrongly claiming, that it contains a spoiler and the only moderator who is online has no knowledge of the series, but the power to delete the post and ban the author. Since it's his job as moderator he has to react, however he can't see, that there isn't really a reason to do anything.

In information technology it's common sense to give people (and software) only those rights, they really need and not more.

Mmm.. you have a point and I think I've seen things like what you described, or at least what appeared to be the case. But in the end it's something that they need to watch out for not something that has anything to do with the system. It could happen to a mod that's up to date too.

To be chosen as a super moderator your judgment must be trusted. Both Hunter and monir are suitably applicable candidates.

We all know the Naruto forum is going to explode with life very soon, and if I know Hunter as well as I thinks I do, his most significant efforts will definitely be there. And of his own accord too.

I’m counting on you to do a good job, Hunter-san! In my eyes you are the successor of, our infamous, Dranz-san. I have no doubt you will be just as commendable. If not more!

So I didn't get to say Congrats to monir in his congratulation thread (man who would had say that 2 years ago?), so Ill take my chance to say Congrats to him here.

LOL, they nailed you too Hunter huh??? Congrats Old Geizer. I just hope this doesn't hold you back on your Debating moments ;)

I know both of them in their posting and concern over the health of the Animesuki Forum, always looking to help others and trying to show others when some of the forum rules are not followwed. These choices of Hunter and monir are very well done, and with Naruto Moving to regular manga story, it was timely and needed!

WTF...:dots:

If he is going to go easy on anyone it will be me!

So, Hunter-san. Now that you're in the clique. Tell me. Who has xris been kissing?

I kid, I kid.

No but seriously. I foresee a future tyrant in the making. I bet NSW will take Hunter-san under his/her wing and teach him the art of banning fairly. Then xris will come along, without a trace, like a ninjacrat! And lure him to the dark side! And just like Anakin, Hunter-san will ultimately overthrow NSW, and xris, and become the forum Overlord!.

However, after years of tyranny he will eventually see the error of his ways and unban me. Thus, bringing balance back to the Suki forums...

Hunter = Darth Vader!
