Any series with episodes that are all messed up on purpose- chronologically, i suppose, but that still add up nicely in the end?

I just finished Boogiepop Phantom and i love how all its messed up bits slowly reveal the bigger picture. BTW if i want to watch the whole Boogiepop series again, but in its (most) proper chronological order, in what order do you suggest i should watch its episodes? :twitch:

The first thing coming to mind when it comes to messed up chronology would obviously be Suzumiya Haruhi no yuutsu.

I heard the same about Suzumiya Haruchi no yuutsu too, from reviews in another site.

There arnt many shows that are similar to boogiepop with its different stories and connections.
Maybe you should try Serial Experiments Lain, even if its not quite like that. But you will sure have to think hard at the end about all kinds of different meanings. I think its the anime with the biggest variaty of different interpretations.

Rahxephon had something similar as well but on a smaller scale. It begins like a normal story. some mysterious turning points happen and the main-char learns the truth about the world, which is still not the whole truth. As it continues as a normal good and interesting action sci-fi drama story he learns more and more about different timelines and how it fits together. Its pretty melancholic when he learns about the identity of the girl he always draws on pictures. Quite an interesting story. but go for the tv show, not the movie.

Air(TV) isn't exactly like that, but it does follow a non-standard chronology. It's not as though the episodes are just mixed up and they skip from the first episode to the second to last and then back to the second, but it does gradually reveal plot a bit at a time by switching around.

I think Jinki Extend is pretty messed up, or that's why I stopped watching it in the first place. It's about robots/maybe romance/comedy!

Yup.. Jinki Extend is messed chronologically. I'm quite lost in the middle, try to figure out which events comes first.... and unlike Haruhi or Boogiepop, they mess it up in the middle of an episode! The overall story is quite good, but the execution isn't pretty. For Boogiepop, it isn't quite messed up chronologically, but more of a parallel story with different focus. Haruhi on the other hand, you could just easily reorder the episodes and watch it chronologically correct :)
Oh, I almost forgot.. Gungrave! :)

LOL, glad to see I'm not the only one who thought Jinki Extend was one messed up anime. It started out good then went whack ~_~
