View Full Version : Do y'all keep a list of what you have seen?

I've been keeping an excel file listing all the anime I've seen so far.
This started after I downloaded an anime THREE FRIKKIN TIMES because I couldn't remember that I'd already watched it. (Happy Lesson was very forgettable to me):D

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone else does this, and what method they use.

I dont keep a list of anime's i've seen...but i do keep a list of the fansubs i d/l...

since i dont have ms office or anything similar...i use a text file to keep a list of all of them...1 text file for each series...and in the text file i put the group name that subbed it...and what the ep name is...

I don't keep a list because it would have been VERY large quite a long time ago. However, I do tend to remember what I have seen. Get a list of well over 500 series going and we will see if you still keep it up to date. After a certain point it just isn't worth it. If I haven't seen it I download it (strange it used to be that the anime would come to me, but sadly I must go to it).

I disagree. Being an old timer too, my list is up to 761 different series/movies/OVA's, split between Good, Fans Only, and Bad. The ratio is fairly close to 25/50/25.

It's fun to go back over the notes I take on animes that I wouldn't remember unless prompted... especially the stinkers like Najica Blitz Tactics, Toshinden the Anime, or Bite Me! I got pretty creative in my attacks on anime that I felt wasted my time.

:) It also helps in these forums when people ask "what's your favorite <whatever>" I can go down the list and remember things that I wouldn't be able to pull from the noggin.

I don't keep a list of everything I've seen, but I do keep one of everything I own. That includes both fansubs and dvds. I have one list of just fansubs, and a master list with everything and what format it's in.

I don't.. That would be *way* too difficult for me and besides.. It would be *really* hard for me to forget an anime. ^_^; I do keep a list of what I own on DVD though.. But just anime I've watched, that list would be too huge! And I don't remember all the anime I watched years ago. :P So nah. I don't think I'd ever keep a list.

I thought that Small One was right about it being a good idea to add a poll to this thread, so without further ado, here it is! (Incidently I don't keep such a list. I only keep a list of the anime I actually own. It's a much shorter list!)

Kempis Curious
2003-11-07, 04:41
You should have made this a poll...

But what I'd really like to know: What anime was it that you downloaded this often?

'twas written there, "Happy Lesion".

Happy Lesson actually. :( It's late.

Paper list? Wow. Hard to search on that.

I also keep a text file with what's on CDROM.
I actually made a batch file which appends the contents of the CD drive onto the end of such text file. It's not an exact way to find something, but it works well since I keep the CD's in order they were created. I bet there's better ways to do this. ^_^

I keep a list of my anime collection only (in Excel format). I also list 'where' the cds are placed (in Word format). And I only watched about 50% of all the anime in my collection. I don't need to keep track of which anime I saw, though it would be nice to do that, for statistics and stuff. I'm interested to know how many episodes and how much time I spent watching all those shows.

No, I don't actually keep a list. I can remember them tho.

My download history isn't that long cuz I just got my unlimited broadband connections. So I mostly watch those on TV or buy them off the shelves. :D

And maybe because I am abit choosy and only watch those that appeal to me, that's why the list isn't long also. :p

I watch like 20 series at a time so I would lose track of what ep I'm on of each series. I use to use pen & paper but it wasted alot of paper ^^; The one day I realised I could just use text files, duuuuuhhhhhh. So now I keep two text files, one for downloaded one for watched.

I do keep a list of all the anime i've seen (in whole or in part). Also put in how much episodes I still need, wether or not i'm collecting it, and alternative names. i started doing this because i couldn't tell if i had dl / seen / bought certain things allready or not

yea, i ahve a speadsheet with all the anime i have burned and what i got on my computer, its just easier to add watched.
cause when i look for new animes 2 watch that i have burned to disk then its easier to filter out stuff

I used to keep a list (still have one on animenfo, but haven't updated it in a while). No use in updating it actually, it's all in my head, I know exactly what I've seen and up to which episode (and from the current series, I know from which group :) ).

Iron Monkey
2003-11-09, 04:30
Nope, with all the anime I watch, there's no way I can keep it updated. Besides, I know what I've seen, so there's really no point in me doing so. I like to keep a list of stuff I've downloaded though, just so I don't d/l dupicate episodes and waste bandwidth.

Sheesh. I wish I could do that. :D One of the features of my anime Excel file is which episode I've seen so far. This helps a lot when multiple groups are doing an anime and I can't remember which ep last came out.

A similar problem is forgettable anime which do not have descriptive titles. One of my favorite things in fansubbed anime is to download a good anime that I never heard of and be pleasantly surprised... (I remember Princess Tutu and Jungle wa Itsumo did that.) ... so I usually download the first episode of everything on the animesuki list. However, how could I remember if I'd seen "Harukanaru Toki no Naka de OVA" if I didn't write it down? Can any of y'all remember that one?

I don't keep a list like this, I can remember all the animes I've seen, but I can't remember up to which ep for all of them, I can usually remember around what ep, so I kinda just use trial and error after that. I could use a spreadsheet for all the burned animes I have, that would probably be pretty useful.

Hi, new to Animesuki, thought I'd just add my 2 cents...

Yes I keep an actively updated list at www.jasio.net/anime.txt its just something to let me know what I have/dont have. It's actually a pretty nifty tool once your library starts to expand.

When I burn them, then yeah. You have to. Otherwise you'll be recording the same file over and over, and its deffinitely a waste of money.

In harddrive, I don't mind keeping track of what I have since downloading it is just minutes away.

I keep a list of anime that i have burnt to CD or DVD. I think i have a total of 15 DVD's (4.7GB each) and more than 30 CD's (700MB each). If you think about it, that's lots of anime when some episodes/series are 40Mb/episode. I have a whole database on what i have. I'll post it on my website sometime.

Something besides pen and paper or a text file. :D

Whatever anime I dl'ed I created a new folder (matching the name of the Anime)for them in the HD under a specific-folder and add the series as it progress..For anime movies and others I just add to my specific-folder..So I see a list being created itself without my intention of doing so:D..

I looked at the excel file, did that program make all the columns?

If it's just a file listing program the following in a batch file will do the same thing:

dir /b /o /s e: >>all.txt

This appends the contents of my CDROM drive to a text file. I click the batch file whenever I make a CDROM and I've got a "precise enough" record of what's on CD. Does anyone have a better system, maybe built in to your burning software?

I used to. But I don't any more. I save all anime I download anyway, so that's my list. Just check my collection of CD-Rs and DVD+Rs and the HDD, and there you have it. (Except for the ones I've bought of course).

I delete the ones I don't like though, so I guess the list isn't complete. I'll make a list in html sometime though. So I can keep track of it all.

I don't have a problem remembering what i have seen most of the time except when it came to Noir on dvd. After the last disc came out a few weeks ago, i stuffed them all in the artbox and somehow had a disc 6 left over. I looked in the box and there was a disc 6 there so this left me a little confused because i really don't remember buying it twice. I almost did the same thing with RahXephon disc 5 but caught myself when i read teh back of the case and realized that i already had the disc. Downloading something more than once has never happened to me though since i never really delete anything till i get it on dvd.

Now i am almost out of drive space though and think it might be time to make some of my own fansub dvds for Scrapped Princess and Stellvia since there has been no license announcement made yet.

I keep a list that says what anime I've burned onto CD and then which CD spidel I have it in (I have them all numbered). It makes finding series I've watched a long time ago a lot easier.

For what's on my PC, I have a folder that contains all of my digisubs. Then, in that folder I have a folder that says "watched" that I try to remember to move anime into right after I've first seen it. From there it's eventually burned onto CD or moved into the Direct Connect Share Folder.

For my anime DVD's and the very few VHS tapes I have, I don't keep a list.

No, I don't keep a list, since I usually check out the description of the anime from AnimEnfo.com. The pictures help me remember was it worth seeing. Usually not, since you can't forget good series, no? Have to admit, though, that I have made the mistake of downloading some animes twice only to end up deleting them both times. Incidentally, I can't remember their names. :heh:

I use Google's spreadsheets website to keep track of the shows I watch. It's useful because I can access it on multiple computers, so I can update it whenever I need to. I can remember if I've seen a show or not, but the most useful thing about it is that it lets me keep track of what episodes I'm up to on given shows. This is especially useful if there's a long wait between releases/rentals. Also, It's kind of cool to just have a master list of everything I've seen.

The colums I use are:
Title
Episodes Have
Episodes Total
Episodes Watched

Then I have a column with notes (e.g., if I rented the show on DVD, have it saved on my harddrive, if I burned it onto DVD, or if I dropped/deleted it from my harddrive)

I'm considering adding another column to give each show a star-rating (between 1 and 5), but I'm not sure if I want to get into that.

I believe you can share your spreadsheets with other people using Google's service, so if anybody is also using the service and wants to share spreadsheets with me, please send me a PM. It could be fun. :)

I don't keep a list, but anime news network is my best friend. Whenever I see an unfamiliar show, I ALWAYS check it out first, and the summary + picture is always enough to jog my memory if I have already seen it.

See, I don't have a problem of remembering what anime I have seen. What I do have a problem of though, is remembering anime that looks interesting at first glance but didn't see because due to lack of HDD space. XD

I used to just remember them but I couldn't remember what stupid little episode I was at Higurashi (it got really annoying) so now I just keep a list of all the anime I haven't finished. Basically what Ep I last watched and what Ep I last downloaded.
*checks list*
Ok just 41 ATM...
I'm also counting some of the old show I dig up. (to fill in the gaps)

Well I guess a list is the best way for me, since I just download tons of anime and watch episodes depending on my mood at the time.

@ Monir

Yup I create a new folder for anime too, but not right away.
I keep 3 partitions on my hdd. Basically in the second I keep all tons of stuff (photoshop brushes, psd files, wallpapers, pix and so on). And the third is just for anime I don't make folders or anything in it I just have it set as the default download folder for Azureus so everything just gets downloaded there. When I finish downloading and watching a show (actually when several pile up) I go in my D partition and create a new folder in my little Anime folder and move all the episodes for the series there. (I do kind of the same thing with manga)

After I move them I also delete them from the list. There's just no point in keeping them on the list.

You might be one of those people who works in folders and all but I like to work with just one, my Desktop, so it's easier for me to dump them now and arrange them later. The only place where I save things straight into folders is my bookmarks. (actually this forum is the only site I haven't bookmarked directly into a folder) (17 Main Folders)

I have a list of animes that I have seen/dowloaded/bought and a kind of rating of these animes. This is usefull to me because I'm found of differents kind of stats, and also it can help my friends that are not as otaku as me to select a few anime to watch regarding the rating that I put on them.
At the begining it was a basic text file, but as the number of animes that I own increased, it evolved into a complex xls file :upset:

I keep a list of the series I have seen to completion. I have a little over 100 as of right now.

ANIDB is a site similiar to animenfo or ANN except it is based on a DETAILED user listing system. It allows you to lista all your series AND episodes based on what fansub group or dvd you own, label what you've seen and what you haven't, provide a source and status (HDD, DVD, ect) label for your episodes, see a "reccomeded anime" list after you rate 30 series, and MORE. It's amazing! It just takes a while to lista ll your stuff.

Main Site (http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=main)

an example list is in my sig

I use a simple notepad file to list the anime I've watch and am watching. It also notes the anime I've burned to disc. Other than that, like mit, all my Anime is organized into neat little folders within my Anime folder. Right now I only have 40GB worth of Anime on one HD (should be more, but my older secondary HD wiped itself; thankfully I burn to CD/DVD too) but that'll definitely increase.

I'm using a simple anime.txt file to list all the anime I've seen (how many episodes and how many OVA, movies), a list of "currently watching" and a list for the anime I want to watch. Using a site would be nice but using a text file
is better since my laptop is 24/7 with me and I don't get on-line much.

Yes, I do keep a list of every series I have seen, entirely or partly, and I even remember to update it sometimes. Heh, it is just txt-file named "Anime", but there is a lot more in it than that list, mostly random info about anime and different series, thought, some are copy-pasted from this forum. ;)

I don't keep a list about my anime VHS tapes, or DVDs. I have little over 100 DVDs, so I can rely on my memory at this point. :heh:

I make a list =P

I don't know if you can say I watch a lot or not. just that occasionally, when I get bored after watching a few animes, I start wondering how much i've watched and I just randomly make a list. So you might find a couple of papers filled with anime names from top to bottom, but then I also add in some manga book i've read and others =D So yea, I make lists

I just use AniDBs WebAOM to automatically check what anime I have and upload a list. Currently: http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=mylist&uid=129940
