THIS IS SO COOL.

Seriously, this is *such* a good idea on the part of ... well, whoever came up with this. Kafka's story is perfect for a surreal anime-short adaptation, and if the two screenshots that are up are any indication, this will be a job done right. The original story is probably one of Kafka's greatest short stories (he wrote a lot of stuff that was only 1/2 page - 6 pages long) and I can imagine that it'd be both really fun and really challenging to try and animate it. I am positively thrilled not only that this is happening, but that someone had the idea to do it in the first place! All is not lost in the world of anime!!

Okay, I'm done fanboying. In any case, I don't actually know when we'll get to see the completed product, but I'm not very good at searching out information like that so it may be out there.

Here is the text (http://www.mala.bc.ca/~johnstoi/kafka/countrydoctor.htm) of Kafka's story in English translation. Needless to say, this is the ultimate spoiler. But who will sub is now that JR are dead?

Very faithful adaptation. Very strange story.

Sweet. Kafka is awesome. It would be cool if they were to animate more of his stories like The Castle and Vor dem Gesetz after this.

Or the classic novella, The Metamorphosis.

And this thread should be moved to the "Fansubbed" section. :p

I dunno, this show sounds like it might be Kafkaesque.

... please, tell me you weren't actually trying to make a pun and that is just some obscure reference I didn't get. :(

In any case, thanks for bringing this thread up! I didn't know such a gem existed.

An anime about a giant cockroach thing? I'm not sure.

Hey, I'd like to watch it. Plus, if they were to apply the same art style as A Country Doctor, I don't see why not.

Yeah, it would look nice. It'd be depressing as hell but it would look wonderful. :heh:

True, but most of Kafka's work is somewhat depressing. Actually though, The Metamorphosis has some subtle humor to it in the beginning, but that can be hard to appreciate--especially in view of the depressing ending. :heh:

But yeah, I'm mostly interested in how they would animate it.
