Still no new op&ending this time, how frustrating :(
I'm guessing the new OP & ED shall start next week if anything, anyway..
Pretty good episode, the first half was something i've been looking forward to.. Misa & L, or how i could listen to there convo's for hours. The fight scene was pretty well done, and did a good job at getting the point across.. something you'll find out when watching. :3
& even in the anime, Aiber still makes me lol.
Hmmm....am I still watching Death Note?
Thought it was good, it has really lighten up. Doesn't really seem like Death Note anymore.
Man, with the Light we're seeing, there is no way you could every imagine him evil or as Kira. They're like 2 polar opposites. He's rather damn friendly.
A huge question poped into my head "Where does L get all this money?" He's like ultra rich....
Was kind of amusing watching Light and L go at it. There's watching Misa like 24/7 on a HUGE tv as if it's some webcam....~_~

The only complaint is Light doesn't act like himself. He really should be moody, I don't think he's always been a happy guy to begin with.

A more slowed down episode, however alot of plot development.
Light acts like he does because he doesn't know the Deathnote existed and as of right now he personally believes Kira set him up so he's doing everything he can to get the suspicison away from him. Thus for him to act "super friendly" is understandible.
Hmm... Everythings interesting though... now we see 2 new characters. Wonder if they will be used to Light's advantage judging from the 2 new rules from the death note.

i have to agree ~
as things are going now not even i know whats what anymore ~ where is ryuk! when will light get his kira status back?
its pretty cloudy as things are going along...right now L is trying to think up a new reason as to where kira and who he really is ~
i just loved the fight XD and then misa steps on that cake...EWWWW :heh:
methinks that L could be a karate expert :3 but one think unrealistic about it is that there isnt any blood!! O.o

It shouldnt start until the first arc is over. Right now, I think it's about 2/3 over.
I love this episode. Ironically, my favourite episodes are 17 and 18, which are the most controversial ones yet.
Not a bad episode but it seemed to Light and L got to the concluison that someone from Yotsuba was behind the murders a bit too easily. This Matsuda guy is becoming ever more annoying but thankfully we saw little of Misa. What I liked the most was L's cool and detached behaviour when the policemen started wondering whether to quit or not.

This episode is still good anime quality even though there isn't any suspense in it. Some people don't like the story mood change, but I don't see anything wrong. Some things are revealed such as that L had money to finance his workers even they are unemployed. L can sure come up with right on conclusions/assumptions. He concluded that Kira is giving power to people and if they lose the power, they lose their memories. Then again he said that Kira can control people, which is kinda true and false. Dunno if the subtitles were right, but I guess they are. I rate this episode a decent 8/10, since it isn't the best of all. It had some nice humor. I kinda like it better than last episode.

what i see wrong is that ive come to hate and despise the character of light for being a hatable villain and now he turns into the complete opposite.
i can understand that his character changed a lot through the death note, but where is his emotional coldness that he usually shows towards everything?
he should be mad at L, he should look down on him for his wrong assumptions... even before the death note i firmly believe that light was a complete asshole ;)

Well, before the death note he just seemed like a regular high school senior that is bored with life. We don't really see him being an asshole...more like just someone bored.
Also concerning Light's personality change, I believe an earlier post in this topic by shakildwz provides a pretty good explanation.

he is still the light that would make the decission that the world would be better if you killed all criminals. because of that he should be a kira supporter, if anything. and only interested in proving his own innocense.

This ep was kinda weak...very slow tbh
Dont spoil anything, but are we even half way through the story yet?
Also...if i have to listen to happy Light one more time i'm gonna slap someone's neck off, i want the evil smart one back!

This episode was fansubbed surprisingly quick. Anyways...
I also enjoyed the dog fight between L and Light. Light's blow came out of nowhere and really did seem like it hurts. :heh:
We also got to see the complications that arises for the group. And some development for Aizawa, as well.
From the scene with Matsuda and L, and the preview in the end, it seems like Matsuda's either gonna do something creditable or mess up( more likely) and create more difficulties for Light and L. :D

No, not yet.

Average. Nothing happened, the whole "Anti-Kira HQ" idea is cheesy as hell, I'm not sure why anyone would care about Mogi out of sudden, the gaijins can provide a good entertainment Mission Impossible-style action inside Yotsuba's HQ, but I'm afraid they won't, L vs Light's fight was nicely animated but the dialogue was stupid, overall, Death Note will most probably be uninteresting until real Light comes back.

We will be halfway through the story right before the Yotsuba arc comes to a conclusion. This is at the end of Volume 6. Right now we are about in the middle of volume 5.

And thus, with Light-o-sama's megalomanianical ways still supressed, Death Note is becoming less and less enjoyable. However, the fight and Aizawa's resolve makes this episode shine. 8/10.

well isee now that the death note thing is turning into a statement on ordinary "justice system" whih i find horribly boring and plagued with contradictions.
The thing that I liked the most about the chapter was L's face expresions when he was "depressed" :p
After that, the chapter was kind of slow for me, The fight was Ok, but I just dont picture L or Light doing that kind of stuffs.
Well, i am not as disappointed with the recent developments as some of the people here seem to be, but i agree on one thing - this barely seems like the show that got me hooked.
The whole "lets build an anti-Kira skyscraper" seems like bullcrap to me. (not to mention they messed up the height beyound belief...23 ? seemed more like 123 to me)
I just hope that we get the old Light back soon. Not that it is that bad, it just is not what i singed up for in this case. It just does not give you the thrills you would normally get from a DN episode.

I think this is the worst episode of Death Note so far. Every other episode had some kind of cool intense scene, but this one had nothing. Even the fight between Light and L was really stupid, could have been much better.

This episode was definitely slower than previous episodes, no huge plot twists, a few humerous and serious dialogues. However, one thing I noticed is that the animation of the main characters dramatically shifted, both in how they were drawn and in their movement. It still had the intensity that I love about this anime (when light and L were fighting compaired to previously when L was speaking on the 2 cell phones). Does anyone know if the change in the character's drawing and animation was done to represent a "lighter side" of light and misa-misa? or did they hire on some new artists who brought a new style to the drawingboard?
Nothing new or outstanding happened for this episode. In average the plot was generic, but it allowed to me to make a further insight on L.
L was behaving at every quirk like a child, who doesn't want to let go off his toys, while both he and Light had their little brawl and made a mess out of Misa's apartment.
L hates to lose like Kira, and it's sad to watch L unmotivated to drown himself with sweets. Talk about a high inclinations to develop diabetes.
And not only that but also to compare possibilities for a different outcome on Light, had he never came in contact with the Death Note.
Unlike the previous Light from three episodes ago as of recently, this Light demonstrates how much he cares for L and how much he commits to a sense of justice.
What I learned in this episode?
a) The Yotsuba company have not reached the dexterity and logic to toy with the rules of the Death Note and had them work to the accomplishments that they had preplanned, unlike Light.
I would find it pretty risky plus lacking in common sense to have them make preliminary tests with note with killings that would neither benefit them nor they could utilize to their convenience.
b) L, unfortunately, is not of the type who hangs out to improve his social skills. He is not a diplomat, but a dweller of reality on the true world who lacks diplomacy.
The manner how he took Aizawa's resign was, how could I put it, robotic; like a caller or salesman interested to get the transaction done.
This episode was about choices. Where to head on from now since the case has protrude different types of ramifications which in some or another forces each member of the investigation team to make a decision and then incur a sacrifice.
Aizawa had to think for his family's welfare, but his frustration on leaving the case cost him.
I suspect the writers already planned to develop upon Aizawa and Matsudas' characters to fill in the story, so as to make necessary cuts from the manga material to adapt them into the anime and in that way making the transition from manga to anime go smoothly without cramming too much stuff into episodes when a climax is about to peak.
No episode 19 this week? :(

Something is bothering me, and perhaps it has been answered somewhere : why did Raito's personality change ?
Yes, he lost all memories related to the DN, which means he should be back to normal : distant, arrogant, and oblivious to his surroundings...
I don't remember DN can change people personality, or is it a new feature of the note ?

I don't know if there's actually a change. I think that with your adjectives you're referring to the Light we got to see at the beginning of the series, especially when at home alone. But if you refer to his being "kind" with L, this was his behavious also when he owned the Death Note. What is gone is just the dark second personality of him.
The DN departure has erased just the memories about DN's related events. Everything else was left untouched, so since he was already nice and cooperative with the police force when aware of being Kira, now it has to be believed that, with the dark personality gone, he's being like that even more.
And I think he's not even acting, since Kira discovery, other than a point for his honor, his also the only way to see the end of the tunnel, if there's one.
I gave this episode a 7. It really did bring few new happenings, and I think that in 20 minutes they could have also have moved the Yotsuba affair a bit more ahead. They focused a bit too much on the whole "in or out of the police" part, seeing how predictable was that L was just testing Aizawa. L to trust two criminals was actually surprising.
They showed how Matsuda feels useless in this episode, and not casually in the next one he'll likely be the protagonist (even the episode is titled "Matsuda"). With the Yotsuba arc, Light's loss of DN, no shinigamis on screen and focus on secondary characters the anime is living the first "down" phase of its whole, after a ton of "ups".

Well its not like he's blanked out everything since getting the death note. Now if he couldn't remember anything then he'd be the same as he was in the beginning. But due to plot development Light changed ,so after losing the death note he remembers everything hes been doing and fighting for and its become a part of him.( even if its fake memories or he filled in the blanks himself)
Hope this makes sense, writing ain't my strong point :(

The last two episodes were sort of too unrealistic. So far, I don't see the reason of the new headquarters. It's built in the middle of nowhere and it would only raise suspicions. And of course, they don't explain L's unlimited source of money. It seems like the creator was at a road block in the story and he needed to remove the road blocks in some unreasonable ways.
It also seems like losing the ownership of the death note controls Raito's personality or rather restricts him from doing certain things - ie manipulating Misa's emotions. I hope he returns to his old self because he is sounding rather stupid right now (especially the last scene in this episode =.= )

Hello, Pelli ^___^
Yes, I was referring to Raito as we saw him in the very first episode : gloomy, acting high and mighty, thinking, as he said himself, that the "world is rotten".
Besides, it's true he accepted Ls friendship, but to serve his own motive.
As Antonik said, I think Raito's personality is changing with the flow of events, since he's not the main actor (Kira) anymore, but the pursuer.
The doppelganger situation, to sum it up.
which means he should be back to normal : distant, arrogant, and oblivious to his surroundings...
That would be true if his circumstances had returned to the beginning of the story. But if he truly has lost his memory, then he is currently being suspected of Kira and part of the Kira task force to find a mass murderer. At the beginning of the story he was a just an average high school kid.
At the beginning of the story he was a just an average high school kid.
I wouldn't say average. Its linked to his genius side, but listening to what Light has to say before he finds the Death Note, that there leads you to understand that his mind is not like a normal school kids. I believe thats what Tsugumi Ohba was trying to get at when writing the script for the beginning of the story.
I have this theory about people losing memory of the Death Note. It first came to me when thinking about Misa's character, sure she isn't the smartest character, but she certainly loses a few brain cells after having her memory wiped of everything that happened. Now she's just a girl in love, so of course she's going to be acting this way - but she was just a girl in love while having the Death Note. She didn't care about killing people or what not, she just wanted Light to love her, the same way without having a Death Note. The Death Note must leave some kind of scare on the person, or it wouldn't be that easy to just 'throw it away'.
Light's attitude is much easier to understand. He comes to while being locked up, and he deep down understands that he isn't Kira - of course he would, he has no idea about what happened. So its that part right there that drives his reason for wanting to find Kira now, well.. most of it anyway.

The show has definitely toned down after all the last couple of what i would call extreme episodes. Its like riding on a train at 300mph then some just slams on the breaks. Im sure the story will pick up again but my mind has just been so screwed up with trying to figure out everything that has happened and trying to predict what will happen.
The introduction of 2 new character that are pretty shady might make things interesting. God L is loaded with the new headquarters and being able to take care of the members financial needs for life for the love jebes L needs to drop me some cash.
Best part of this ep Light and L kicking the shit out of each other while Misa Misa watches. :heh:

Yo, hitokirigirl ^_^ (by the way, is there a shorten form of your nick? ^^)
Yes I agree. Antonik's post completed what I had in mind: Light's personality change is unrelated to the loss of Death Note (since in your post you were wondering if DN had new features such as changing characters), and so yeah, a simple flow of events leads him to be different. Of course, as Shiroth noticed, he's quite in a pinch now, weeks and months of undeserved detention (because in Light's eyes, that's how it is, injustice), and loss of freedom may only bring to strong motivation and determination. Hence, the changement :)
It seems that the "normal" Light is finally in front of a problem not as easy to solve as the ones the previous "normal" Light, the easygoing genius, was so used with.

this show just keeps on with the mind-crackers.
you really have to pay attention to follow the story.
though I think I have a really good idea of what Light's plan was when he chose to forget the Death Note, I still think I will be surprised in the next 3-4 episodes.

I can't stand Light being so nice, because I'm used to him being this ruthless, apathetic killer. But I don't think it's an act. Sure, he can masquerade his killing intent while he had the note, but by looking at his face, you can tell he was planning something evil. So either the Death Note is evil (which it isn't provided by Misa's state and the Shinigamis) or discarding the Death Note has more consequences than just memory lost of the note. Maybe it's also a lost of a killing intent, a rebirth.

For the people that are wondering why L has so much money
a) We don't know a thing about his past, maybe he's realy rich? Who knows,he could have been Bill Gates son or something..
b) He is the best detective in the world,a detective that good would probably earn a lot of money

yar, with the demise of Light's Note, this thing seems to have fallen apart. without that "what clever shenanigan comes next, and how will Light/L demonstrate that they accounted for it with an even CLEVERER shenanigan!?" suspense engine, a harsh light falls on this scurvy pack of rerun characters: hardboiled cop destined to die 2 days before retirement, comic relief rookie sidekick, and the Yagami family as square as a unit of area.
but L looks worst of all. yo! Batman called--he wants Alfred back! without even a Bruce Wayne backstory (and with the random skyscraper building antics), everything that was "mysterious" and "eccentric" starts to look a lot more "contrived" and "hollow" as we realize that this dude can deus ex machina anything. I mean, he's _L_, man! he totally saw your speculation about his backstory coming, which proves that Light must be Kira!--and the crowd goes "ooh!," because we know he's right. as I haven't been following these threads, I figure there's been some discussion of the odd fact that the investigation has centered on figuring out who is behind the killings, and not how in the world the killings take place, since there's no obvious reason to assume that a person is capable. it'd be more likely to e.g. keep high-profile criminals in sensor-loaded rooms to determine the mechanism that induces their heart attacks etc. at which point L could show off his Shinto priest powers by divining the work of Shinigami with one of them broom looking things. but obviously there's less psycho-drama there. unless he has to get past Freddy Kruger in fine dream warrior style.
so, fresh meat for both sides? maybe the show is just dogging it towards the end of this leg of the relay, with the baton soon passing on to another suspense scheme express. you know Light is going to get back in business eventually, and probably with a predictable bang...
Finally had the time to watch DN 18 properly . Mogi was bound to go he was cracking under pressure even in previous eps he was losing his cool for no reason . but the manner in which he made his exit was'nt pleasing at all . matsuda is being pushed around a lot , guess he is the comic releif . Dont know to laugh or feel bad for him .
L was dull in this ep with lil flashes of L-ness ( Karate ) Yotsuba group is looking intresting among the excutives there was a guy in Morphius ( Matrix ) get-up . :D
