View Full Version : Higurashi Matsuri - Game (PS2 version)
This thread is for the PS2 version of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni.
Feel free to discuss your thoughts on the PS2 version of the game, its character designs, and newly added chapters (Taraimawashi-hen, Tsukiotoshi-hen, and Miotsukushi-hen), etc. etc.
Somehow I feel the game was rushed or something. There's no voice acting in TIPS or the first half of the game. It was weird when all of a sudden Keiichi's voice poped up in the 2nd half of the game. However, the new OPs and EDs were really good. I would've perfered if they kept a couple of the original music, but the new music is well done also.
My thoughts about the new story chapters:
~Running away from Tragedy~ Taraimawashi-hen
Nothing speical happened (people who have watched the anime or played the PC game would probably know what's really going on), but it is full of spoilers for the other question arcs, as Shion gives the reader a digest version of the question arcs. It's listed as chapter 1, but I think it's better to play all the original question arcs before going into this one. The answers to the questions are all answered in Meakashi-hen, since the story itself is very similar to Watanagashi-hen.
The first time I played this I was like "Eh?" at the end. Only after reading all the other chapters I have realized what this chapter was for. As the preview has stated, "Running away is not a sin...but the real world isn't so easy-going". It also makes sense why this chapter is served as a "fall-back" chapter, where you would enter if you don't satisfy any requirments for the other chapters.
~The Worst "if"~ Tsukiotoshi-hen
Advertised as the "most evil scenario in Higurashi history, and it doesn't fail to deliver. Basically Tatarigoroshi-hen, and this time 3 people is after Teppei. I have always wondered what would've happened if Rena and Keiichi failed to convince Shion in Minagoroshi-hen, and this is pretty much it. Afterwards the story is simliar to Tatarigoroshi-hen again. We also get to see what happened at the end of Taraimawashi-hen, and Tsumihoroboshi-hen. Probably better to play Tsumihoroboshi-hen first, becuase of that.
The story is self explatory for those who have read Minagoroshi-hen before. It's also sad to see the culprits (Rena/Keiichi/Shion) to be driven into distrust and paranoia, even tho they were getting along so well in the beginning.
~Another Ending~ Miotuskushi-hen
New ending for the series. A world where Rika has to overcome all the trials at once. They are of course the main ones from all the chapters before, being
-Rena's father getting cheated on
-Teppei's return
-Shion's demon rising due to Keiichi and Mion being in good terms
A world where they have to tackle all the Rule X elements at once, stop Rule Y from happening, and use Rule Z as their advantage.
I personally think this new ending was way better than the one from the PC version. As we all know, matsuribayashi-hen was mainly about stopping Rule Y. Rule X and Z was somewhat not present. Maybe that's becuase Hanyuu was present and stepped in right from the start of Matsuribayashi-hen.
However, this world, Hanyuu does not exist. Rika believes it's the final world becuase of that.
It feels much more satisfying when you have actually overcome all the trials and finally stopping the true villian. Also have a much better moral in the end than the original.

So do you think it's worth getting? My order got cancelled, and I need to knw whether to bother making another one.
I think it's worth getting, the voice acting added to the great story line is worth going for. Various minor things I don't like too much is that there's no voice in TIPS or first half of the game.
Also I liked the way it was done in the orignal better. In the PC game, the text is on top of the background. I think what makes some scenes so much more dramatic is that you are usually looking at the characters when they talk, so when they switch over to oyashiro-mode then the effect is really present. PS2 game, you usually just stare at the text on the bottom. THe voice acting does make up for that, as the tone of the voice changes and you would know something is up. Also, another thing I thought the PC version was good for was that, the variable text speed. Somtimes freezes at points, and makes you stare at them for the longest time. Most of those dramatic points are changed to be backgrounds in the PS2 game instead.
Oh, they also removed one of the mystery of the game, which I thought was a shame.
The removed her handgun in her casual clothes. The handgun was the biggest mystery, since it was never used in any of the original 8 chapters, and people always wondered when it would be used. In an interview with G's Magazine, the character designer, rato, says that he removed the gun becuase it was never used anyway
So, if you are a fan, and can at least somewhat understand want is going on (the voices helps alot for those who can't read a lot, like myself), I think it's worth getting.

I am able to understand the original game at the speed of about a sentence every 5 minutes, so the voices will only make that easier... plus I know the story of the anime arcs off by heart... so it sounds like I should get it.
But do all the question arcs have no voice acting? I'm sure I saw a clip of Rika talking in Himatsubushi-hen.

They don't have voice acting in the TIPS part, and Keiichi doesn't have a voice for the first half of the game (his voice is only present after you have entered into the second half of the game, when you have entered one of the arcs). I don't remember if that's the same for the other main characters.
Rias
So you've played it?
How does Hanyuu look like there (maybe screenshots if it's possible)?

I must be doing something wrong. I'm 10 hours into it and no one's been murdered yet. A dismembered corpse was mentioned, though.

Well, if it's anything like the original game, plot development takes a very long time.

So I know that there's added voice acting and new art, but the text/story of this game (for the pre-existing arcs like Onikakushi-hen) is the same as the PC version right? basically I'm wondering, if I bought Matsuri instead of the two PC games that contain the 8 chapters, would the Onikakushi-hen of one be different than the other? Would I miss anything other than extra arcs?
Were the poems by Bernkastel changed in any way? Were there any new ones?

Well, the PS2 game has more arcs, and a different ending arc. I'd imagine the original text has been at least tweaked as well.

All the Bernkastel poems remains the same, except Miotsukushi-hen only uses half of the poem used in Matsuribayashi-hen. Also, new poems for Taraimawashi/Tsukiotoshi-hen. There's also a preview voice everytime you enter an arc.

i really like the poems
Hour 17: After playing what seemed to be a hybrid of onikakushi-hen and watanagashi-hen, it appears something different is going on in this arc. And finally, someone has died! This game is definitely not for casual fans.
Oh, I wish I could find screens for the artwork from this game. Some of the intense scenes were done really well.

So the Matsuri game doesn't have the arcs separated? Or is this just one of the new arcs that's reminiscent of those two?
I just finished Onikakushi-hen on the PC and was blown away - even though I knew what was coming and the lack of graphics, etc, it scared the crap out of me!
From what you're saying, it sounds like Matsuri is just as well done! ^^
Matsuri do have the arc seperated, in the 2nd half of the game that is. The first half is a hybrid of all the pre-festival (roughly speaking) events that occurs, and their occurance sometimes is determined by the choices you make.

Anyone want to take a shot at explaining why they renamed Kenta-kun to Randy-kun?

kenta is too close to kentucky i guess =/
They removed alot of things that would be troublesome due to copyright infringment...Kenta-kun, Card Captor Sakura, and so on...

Damn, why dont i have ps2 :(
aaaah i just finished onikakushi and taraimawashi... onikakushi wasn't any problem because i knew all the stuff from the anime and the tips posted here... but i'm only studying japanese for a few months now... ok and everyone knows some stuff from all the animes, movies and games he watched/played i think >_>
so i didn't get taraimawashi's ending at all... well at least what happened after...
... oishi called k1 and said something about shion disappearing... then suddenly oishi and akasaka are visiting mion in the hospital and... yeah... her last sentence at the end...
well, as i said i didn't get the ending at all, so i'd really appreciate if somebody could at least explain the ending of this arc to me, that would be so nice!! i hope i understood the rest of the arc right >_> i have to admit though... that i only rely on what the characters are saying because i can't read most of the kanji -.-
whatever, i already love this game ^-^°

If you don't get it right now, it's alright. Play the other question arcs first. After finishing Onikakushi-hen, Watanagashi-hen and Tatarigoroshi-hen, go back and see if you understand the Taraimawashi-hen ending. Pay attention to what the preview voice says when you are entering Taraimawashi-hen.
you wrote that you didn't really understand taraimawashi yourself the 1st time you played it... but i wonder how the other arcs will help me understand the 1st chapter. i mean apart from tsukiotoshi i already know what happens in all the question arcs... and the preview voice doesn't give me a hint, even the part you mentioned in your taraimawashi-review doesn't >_> go back and see, haha... now i'm glad i made a memory-save at the decision-point for taraimawashi ^-^°

here's my take on Taraimwashi-hen...
Since you have watched the anime then you should know what happened in Watanagashi-hen, and the truth behind it. Taraimawashi-hen is very similar to Watanagashi-hen, as we can see that there's something going on with Mion/Shion. Only thing is, before we jump back to present day, no one was killed. (Well maybe they were, during the empty gap, who knows. Also, Tomitake ALAWAYS get killed anyway)
Anyway, as readers, we were given a single task in the beginning: to discover and explore all the mysteries surrounding Hinamizawa. The serial killings, Oyashiro-sama's curse, great Hinamizawa disaster, and so on. However, if we refuse/failed to do that, by selecting choices that would enable us to "run away from the truth", we would enter Taraimawashi-hen. Afterall, the only way to enter Taraimawashi-hen is to not meet any requirments to enter the other arcs.
In the beginning, it's easy to enter Taraimawashi-hen. Just by not going to the dam to help Rena after the pinic, we would get that. However, I think most people who doesn't know any Onikakushi-hen story, would choose to help out Rena. People who don't help her are probably ones who know that that we find out about the dismemberment killing becuase of reading Onikakushi-hen before(which is the first thing that made Keiichi paranoid in Onikakushi-hen). Whether we wanted to "see something new happen by choosing the non-obvious choice", or just wanted to have the happy days go on as long as we can, we have ran away. This is also why you can only enter Onikakushi-hen or Taraimawashi-hen on the first playthrough.
Once we enter Taraimawashi-hen, we start to see various events. Mion's shift in personalities, and Shion giving you the digest version of all the events of the serial killings and mysteries of Oyashio-sama. Even though we "ran away" from the truth (in the beginning), the unforgiving world still moves on: Tomitake is still dead, and people are still going missing. As the events goes on, and finally seeing Mion on the hospital bed, we know that Watanagashi-hen's has occured, but slightly different. There isn't much point to the ending, but the whole general theme of this arc was the main point. I think that's thre reason why Taraimawashi-hen is set as Chapter 1; for people who have some knowledge of the story already. People who don't would probably fall into Onikakushi-hen first, then Watanagashi and Tatarigoroshi-hen (those 3 chapters are also in that order to unlock in the PS2 game)

so basically we should really just think of any possible watanagashihen-like development at the end? that's what i thought at first... no really! however i thought that would leave too many questions unanswered even for a question-arc and only those who know the original or the anime/manga could imagine what happened >_> but then... it's okay to make an ending like that since it's only a scenario to show that the tragedy also happens when you try to run away... argh now i'm trying to figure out what really happened between oishi's call and the hospital-scene XD

Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion. I will forward your e-mail to upper management and see if they are interested in looking at this title.
And just to let you know, Atlus USA has looked at several visual novel-type games in the past, but ultimately decided to pass on them for various reasons. You make some good points about "Higuraashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri", so we will definitely look into it!

There's really not much to it but to leave yourself to imagine what happened. Since the events before and after the gap are very similar to Watanagashi-hen, it suggests that similar events probably happened.
If you finish Tsukiotoshi-hen, you get a TIPS at the end. It shows what happened right after the ending of Taraimawashi-hen.

My friend and I just figured out what could have happened in the arc. The TIPS you mentioned will most likely not be of much help for me since it won't be voiced i guess... whatever, it's only taraimawashi. i'll just go on with the game tonight, hopefully i'll make it to some nice scenes in watanagashi

I don't want to keep ending up in the same ones again and again.
It's hard to figure out which choices cause different story arcs.

lol now you know how rika feels
Has anyone come up with a guide on how to get to specific scenarios?
I don't want to keep ending up in the same ones again and again.
It's hard to figure out which choices cause different story arcs.
And Rika lived through that for over a hundred years!!
First, how each arc can be unlocked:
1. Taraimawashi / Onikakushi is available from the start.
2. Taraimawashi opens Himatsubushi.
3. Watanagashi is available from 2nd playthrough
4. Watanagashi opens up Meakashi. Tatarigoroshi probably requires Onikakushi + Watanagashi read
5. Meakashi opens Tsukiotoshi
6. Tsukiotoshi opens Tsumihoroboshi, which in turn opens Minagoroshi. After Minagoroshi, the new ending Miotsukushi is available.
How to enter each chapter:
Some are pretty obvious, selecting main characters other than Keiichi will definitely make you go into its own chapter. It also should be pretty obvious as to which partner you should choose to enter each chapter. A digest version for Keiichi start:
Taraimawashi - Just don't do anything that would make you go into other chapters.
Onikakushi - Go treasure hunting with Rena. Ask if Shion also heard the footsteps.
Watanagashi - Give the doll to Rena.
Tatarigoroshi- Go shopping with Rika and Satoko. Select options that makes you more like a big brother to her.
Tsukiotoshi - I don't remember the exact selections, but go along the lines that would push both Rena and Shion into insanity. Also go along the Tatarigoroshi-hen route to trigger a crucial event. (By this time you should know what kind of selections or events would result in what)
Tsumihoroboshi-hen - Similar to Onikakushi-hen, but try to mention things that are/used to be problems for Rena.

.. Or is that in the TIPS section?
finally finished tsukiotoshi... hau~ this arc was great, i love it! i think i understood everything... but can someone please tell me what the 2 TIPS you get after finishing the arc are about? ^-^° i know that one of them is what happened after taraimawashi, but as i already said somewhere... i can't read most of the text and the TIPS aren't voiced -.-
edit: aaah i have problems getting into tsumihoroboshi... @Rias: are you sure i can play tsumi after finishing tsuki? and what about himatsubushi anyway... isn't finishing it neccessary in some way for another arc?
If I remembered correctly, the one of the two TIPS that you get after tsukiotoshi is just "devil's scenario", which was the same to the TIPS you get after the ending of Tsumihoroboshi-hen of the PC game. Check the TIPS thread on this board for that. As to the other TIPS:
A continuation of Taraimawashi-hen. Oiishi shows Mion Rena's blood stained hat and a corpse of a hamster. Mion recalls her memory, and realized something about the Great Hinamizawa Disaster. After talking to Oiishi about it, she died the next morning.
As for entering tsumihoroboshi-hen, I'm pretty sure you can enter it after Tsukiotoshi-hen, since that's what I did. Of course, I read all the other chapters before that, so that could be a factor. If I recall correctly, one of the choices you need to make is to mention about Rena's mother. As for if Himatsubushi-hen is needed or not, I am not sure, since I did read it before even entering Meakashi-hen. Plot-wise I don't think Himatsubushi-hen is needed until you reach Minagoroshi-hen, but I could be wrong.
ok so it was 'devil's scenario' after all...
and mentioning rena's mother doesn't seem to be the key since i always did that and went through all the possible decision-combinations... maybe you really do have to play himatsubushi first considering you finished the other arcs before going into tsumihoroboshi >_> however i skipped through hima just to see if you have to finish it to unlock tsumi and i still wasn't able to get into tsumi... aaaah!
i guess i'll just have to play hima first without skipping everything with the start-button, maybe that doesn't count as a proper play-through of the arc *yawn* -.-
thanks anyway

Yeah, you get a light novel, post cards and the game music cd. There was also a mini-punching bag and some sort of pen thing shaped like a bat, but I think those were just for pre-orders.
"Mini punching bag" and "pen thing shaped like a bat" are indeed pre-order bonuses...they are available to both normal and limited edition.
There were also various bonuses like phone cards, posters or a coffee mug if you pre-ordered from the Japanese game shops like gamers or animate.

I don't really see how that'd be possible beyond someone putting a script up on a website, but with ten full games in it, it'd be a hell of a lot of work. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I just bought it really as a collectors item and because of voice acting, I might be able to pick up bits and pieces of what's going on. :p
We'd probably be better of praying for that minuscule chance it has of being released here. The anime would have to be a huge hit for that small chance and I don't really see that with how Geneon is seemingly trying to bury the series.
Shion's Sanity
2007-06-25, 00:23
Bury the series? How?O_o
And I'm fine with someone posting a script. I don't think it would be all that hard, because of the fact that it is based on the games and there is an anime. Most people already know the gyst of the story, at least. That kind of thing should help with translation.
harukamae
2007-06-27, 16:40
It'd be nice but the problem with a PS2 game translation is that posting a script, especially for a VN, discourages people from buying the game. With a translation patch (like what Mirror Moon uses), you still need a copy of the game to read the translation.
My advice is to keep showing your support for the anime here and write to game companies to request a translation.
Shion's Sanity
2007-06-27, 19:31
I must disagree, since games like this are better if you play it while reading the script. Just reading the script along, without the images and voice-acting would be very dull. If anything, knowing there is a script up would make more people want to buy the game, because they could finally understand it.

Since I can't read whats said in the game, How are PS2 arcs compared to the original?? For those who played and or understand it, do you think its alot better then the original arcs? From what I read it sounds like a remake except with more violence, confusion, angst etc.
Also is it true that someone will make a transcript and post it on gamefaqs as a game script or something so people can play and read along?? Just guessing....
Otherwise is there any chance of this game being animated?? Or will viewers lose interest because of over usage of redundant scenes making a "theoretically-possible" season 3 or 4 not practical?

Quick question, are North American memory cards good with japanese systems? Is there some kind of region lock with them? Can I use my old ps2 card to save Matsuri games or will I need a japanese one?

Actually I thought that scene where Keiichi was thinking under the bed sheets, and Mion's face slowly surfaced was more scary than "Dare" or "Usoda". Probably beucase I expected "Usoda" to happen :heh:

I wonder can anyone do a summary of Taraimawashi-hen or know a place where I can find it, cause i am a bit confuse of event thats happening and what they were talking about cause of my limited knowledge of kanji(sad the game doesn't have Furigana like the manga does)

You can use your North American PS2 memory card on the Japanese system. The card will just have a seperate system data file made for the Japanese system. There shouldn't be any problems with it whatsoever. I've been using the same card in both my Japanese and North American systems for at least a year now.

Um... Do you think its worth the effort to process the text in the game through babelfish?? Can you make sense with it? The thing is even character names may get translated into really bizzare phrases...... In my area there isn't really any Japanese language schools around so I don't know how I can learn it or what tool to use.
I am not sure how some of you can understand it, unless of course you guys are Japanese perhaps?

Maybe AGTH works with a PS2 emulator? Or the person just didn't know what they were talking about.
For me, I know the story of the main plots backwards and forwards, so when I finally buy the game, I'll be able to follow along with those fairly well, since I have a very basic grasp of Japanese. The main problem I'll have is with the Kanji, and that's only for the non-spoken parts.

I tried playing the first arc of the Higurashi PC game in Japanese. Even though I know the story for that arc, it got really boring quick. It would be awesome if someone who gets this game takes the time to write out a translation script and post it up on gamefaqs or something.

Say, would you guys recommend this even if I don't speak or read Japanese? Yes, I am kinda a Higurashi fan as I just can't seem to get enough of some characters.
Will the emotions, sounds and graphics at least be enough to tell me whats happening and "maybe"(keyword: maybe) tell me why certain things are happening? Or will I be so confused and bored to sleep? Some of you guys says this game is an alternate version of the original with alot of adjustments that you will feel like its an anime instead of a game. True?
MrZombie
2007-08-29, 20:42
Well, here's the thing, if you don't understand any Japanese at all I'd say no. The main reason I went and picked it up was that my spoken Japanese is light years ahead of my written. (Of course I had to find out after that the question arcs don't have Keiichi voiced and the TIPS had no voice overs what so ever.)
It's an incredibly text heavy game and there are times where what choices you make determine what chapter you get, if you have no idea what these choices are you could end up getting the same chapters over and over.

Matsuri seems like a good revision of the original. I like the darker tone. At least thats what I got from reading this thread. Does anyone know where are the more indepth synopsis for the PS2 arcs are? I do have a bad feeling that the PS2 arcs might not get animated. But I am anxious to know the when, what and whys of the PS2 arcs.
I also heard that in the second anime series some PS2 elements will be placed in but I am not sure why PS2 elements are placed into the anime.
Anyway plot summaries are welcome.

It's already been confirmed that it's Matsuribayashi-hen they're showing but they could still alter it. I'd like to see the last half of Miotsukushi-hen because I feel going through all the Rule X triggers again would be tedious. Especially if it's your first time, because you want to jump right to the good stuff.

'Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri' that puts on the market in February this year and obtains great popularity appears again in PlayStation 2.
The demand gotten from users was refined including the visible part and the part not seen.
Please expect it of this work that can enjoy the Higurashi world more deeply.
Sounds like a rerelease of the game with a few changes

I found a list of changes posted on several blogs:
Character names are displayed on the text frame, and characters are visible while talking.
Keiichi now has voice acting in the first half.
New TIPS have been added and existing ones changed.
"Otsukaresama" added after scenario clear.
Many inconsistencies and typos fixed.
Opening movie and "Miotsukushi-hen" opening movie refined.
If that's all there is to it, it seems like a fairly trivial set of things to release an append disc over...
However, I did find a more interesting claim on one blog:
"Tanashi Miyoko" will be featured on a grand scale.

Well, it's a good thing I didn't get it when it came out then. I'll definitely have to pick this up.
If only they'd include an option to have the text in English.
Ha ha. A man can dream.
I wonder if they are going to include the mini games too...:heh:
Really, it just seems like most thigns they added on are things that should've been in the PS2 version to begin with (ie Keiichi's voice in 1st half, voices in TIPS, otsukaresama-kai)
Kakera Musubi is a debateable cut, but of course it wouldn't hurt to put it back in.
I wonder if this was just a marketing plot, or they are trying to make up the mistakes (and please the fans) of the 1st version...I guess they did pushed the game too early, as they were trying too hard to release it on double nii-nii day :heh:

Ah damn it. Any idea if the old Matsuri save files will be compatible with the new? I mean I've just gone through three chapters so far.
It should be okay, since they are making 2 versions. One is for people who bought the game before, so it would be like an addon pack. One is the whole fixed game that you can play even if you don't have the first game.

Is Mion still missing her pistol? Here's another reason why: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chekhov's_Gun
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Mion actually did use her gun once in Hirukowashi-hen.
As for Matsuri, the character designer already expressed why the hand gun was removed in the PS2 version.
The song "You" will be featured in the game now...Yukino Satsuki version.

Miotsukushi-hen's New opening makes Hanyuu look evil
I wonder if it will still have Takano shooting and killing Hanyuu
Hi. Hey, I would like to know a little more about miotsukushi-hen, not only the spoilerless telling that you find at wikipedia... If someone can pm me a telling of that arc and the others of the game, I would be very grateful with him/her for the rest of his/her life :3... I really want to know what happens there and how is the ending...
PS: Don't worry about spoilers! I really don't care... (If you PM me, of course, if you decide to post here, don't forget the always useful spoiler tag ; D)
wait... so reason why hanyuu didnt appear in miotsukushi-hen is because... takano err well, please someone do tell me = (
First, how each arc can be unlocked:
Watanagashi - Give the doll to Rena.???
Tatarigoroshi- Go shopping with Rika and Satoko. Select options that makes you more like a big brother to her.
Tsukiotoshi - I don't remember the exact selections, but go along the lines that would push both Rena and Shion into insanity. Also go along the Tatarigoroshi-hen route to trigger a crucial event. (By this time you should know what kind of selections or events would result in what)
Tsumihoroboshi-hen - Similar to Onikakushi-hen, but try to mention things that are/used to be problems for Rena.
Hi! Emm, I'm playing Higurashi Matsuri right now, have already passed through Onikakushi-hen and Taraimawashi-hen, and when I tried to enter to Watanagashi-hen giving the doll to Rena, nothing happened, but the arc continued like nothing, and ended suddenly, without entering Watanagashi-hen, or any especific arc. What am I doing wrong? I have to enter there from Taraimawashi, or do I have to enter Onikakushi and wait for the option to give the doll to Rena appears? Someone, please help.

First I don't know how can the game "end suddenly without entering any specific arcs". Taraimawashi-hen is always there as the fallback arc that you enter in case you don't meet any requirments to enter other arcs.
Entering Watanagashi-hen actaully requires quite a few requirments
1. Need to have beaten at least the game once. (Tarai or Oni)
2. Partner = Mion
3. On the 7th day event, give the doll to Rena.
4. Mion 1: Comment on how "Mion" is cute (if you don't have this option it means you didn't read the TIPS)
I think that's about it.
Oh~ I see! I didn't had read the TIPS! Thank you! And that about the game finishing suddenly, it was because I pushed start without knowing that doing it, forwards the game to the next option choosing (I realized it a few minutes ago)... thing is, there was no more options to choose, so I suppose I went through Taraimawashi... But, something did appear that previously didn't! I had to choose between 2 options (I don't know japanese, so I dont know what did it say! ^^U) And one got me outside, with the teacher and the rest, and the other one lead me to inside games... But thanks again! See you!

er... since the matsuribayarashi got changed to another ending , is there still the iron-fist akasaka??
still there. The main difference between Miotsukushi-hen and Matsuribayashi-hen is the stance Hanyuu takes (which is actually a mistake by the scenario writer and caused some uproar among fans). Miotsukushi-hen incorporates back Rule X and Rule Z, which was pretty much non-existing in Matsuribayashi-hen, and thus was way more realistic than the way Matsuribayashi-hen was set up. However, it doesn't have the Kakera Musubi part, which means ALOT of background infomation is missing.
Hey Rias! Sorry for asking, but Tatarigoroshi-hen does have any other requirements? I still haven't tried to enter it, but I'm asking just to be aware, in anticipation...

Well, I finished reading Tsukiotoshi-hen, and this is what I understood.
Teppei comes back to Hinamizawa and Satoko starts to be absent at school. Rena, Shion and Keiichi decide to kill Teppei, and they do, Satoko is still being absent, Rena, Rika and Keiichi went to Satoko's house and found Satoko and Shion dead. Later, Keiichi is at the garbage dump, and he finds "Shion", and Rena joins them, they Kill "Shion". They went to Satoko's house again, and burnt it with Satoko, Mion and Shion (It had to be those two, but I don't know who was who). Before escaping, Rena kills Keiichi too and leave him burning at the house as well, she goes to Furude Shrine and many Villagers start accosing her, but Ooishi's assistant came up in the right moment and saved her.
She starts running (I think that Kuma-chan was with her) and then the Yamainu appears and they kill Ooishi's assistant, Rena keeps running and hides in her Van, at the garbage dump. But the yamainu stills discovers and kills her.
Sorry if the story is not like that, but that was what I understood, I made my best to explain it xD.

Yup, sorry about not specifying! I meant the videos! the music is still the same, of course!
PD: I love how the new video goes with the song... It's 2 times better than the last one xD

No, they both say Kakera Asobi...

While keiichi is capture by shion the are 2 choice you can make each choice lead to a different ending.
One of them lead to a quicker death which is probably what you miss?

i replayed meakashi again and no choice selection menu appeared. Is there any flag i need to activate to be able to make that choice?
I don't think this matters for the question, but the version i'm playing is kakera asobi standalone version.

I am playing too with the kakera asobi version and I did not get that choice at that time too.
I heard Natsumi is in Mitotsukushi-Hen. What does she do in there?

OK, i finally found what i was missing.
Previously to asking here i checked all the TIPS i had except one that i at first thought could be obtained via the meakashi alternate ending.
Just to make sure i tracked all the possible routes from the beginning and discovered that the way to obtain the needed TIPS (the one before Satoko's trap lesson beginner level) was to give the doll to Mion during Keiichi's route, the pick Mion as partner and use the option to call her Mion during the encounter in Angel Mort.
LOL, who wouldn've guessed that the TIPS that i wrongly thought was obtainable in Meakashi hen alternate ending was actually the one that i needed to got that ending in first place? Silly me, i forgot that BAD ending gave you no TIPS :)
There's an ALTERNATE ending?
Can someone give a summary of Taraimawashi-Hen and Tsukiotoshi-Hen?

Can someone give a summary of Taraimawashi-Hen and Tsukiotoshi-Hen?
i second that !
I posted this Tsukiotoshi hen summary months ago... And personally, I didn't understand Taraimawashi-hen
Well I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Taraimawashi-hen is a backup chapter that teaches the player that running away is not the correct way to tackle the story. As the preview voice has stated, "running away is not a sin...but the real world isn't so forgiving."
Taraimawashi-hen is basically a condensed Watangashi-hen that skips the major events (after the festival) and jumps right to Mion in the hosiptal. Akasaka meets up with Oiishi to go to the hosiptal to get answers from Mion, who lost her memory of everything before the great disaster.
Taraimawashi-hen is gotten by not triggering any flags, such as NOT going to the dump with Rena or giving the doll to Mion, or NOT getting close to Satoko at all. Doing things like that would prevent you from entering the first 3 question arcs. Of course, just becuase you don't trigger any of those events, doesn't mean Rule XYZ is just going to sit around and do nothing. Rule Y will still occur, it will still feed into Rule X, and Rule Z will still be there to strengthen Rule X and Y.
Although being one of the beginning chapter, it contains spoilers to the later question arcs and thus it's not recommand to for beginning players to enter Taraimawashi-hen in the beginning.

It's really funny that you say that as I got into Watanagashi-hen even after giving the doll to Mion.

That's becuase you are in the IF route of Watanagashi-hen...

Im just wondering, but on Wikipedia,it said that Taraimawashi was Onikakushi and Watanagashi combined. I have a few questions:
Was Rika watanagashied away or was she killed by Shion/suicide?
Was Rena killed by Keiichi?
Did Keiichi die in the phone booth?

And....is there any plans for a States release?

I highly doubt it will ever be availble in English. Just buy Kakera Aosobi, and a swap magic and play it with that. It's mostly voiced so it's not that hard to understand. If you can understand an anime RAW then you'll probably be fine.

You can't not understand wath they are thinking unless you can read japanese.
Then people need to stop being lazy, waiting for some one else to translate, and pick up a Kanji dictionary, and start studying. I happen to own Kakera Aosobi, and I wouldn't consider myself to great at reading japanese, but I seem to be understanding it just fine.
Well, I don't know almost anythng of japanese, and even with that, I understood some of the arcs in Higurashi Matsuri... excepting Miotsukushi-hen... I still don't know how
Can Takano kill Hanyuu if Rika wasn't supposed to see her!

I think you're misunderstanding, takano did'nt kill hanyuu
Here, as stated by klashikari:
^ Huh...? As far as I could check that scene, it isn't like this
Hanyuu protected Takano from the Banken attack
That's completely different, until I misunderstood the scene completely.
So thats the reason she was killed
Anyway, she wasn't supposed to be in that world... I guess I have to play that arc again to see if I can understand better...
Mmmmm, Its not that she wasnt supposed to be in that world, but she couldnt been seen by anyone maybe because she had used a lot of her power (Its something I still dont undestand), so in the end she appears and protects takano, maybe someone who had played matsuri and undestood this could help a little more,
I am not sure if they changed it in Kakera Asobi, Hanyuu's stance in the Miotsukushi-hen is different than all her stance from before. In Miotsukushi-hen, the main characters are faced with all sorts of trials (instead of the happy disapprance of Rule X of Matsuribayashi-hen). Hanyuu is there to guide the group as they tackle on the 3 dead ends of fate, instead of joining in with the group. She disappers from Rika becuase she also wanted to teach Rika that hapiness is something that she has to obtain herself, and to develop the confident that Rika can have to live on by herself.
Ah! I see! That makes sense, now! Thanks!

Kana + Kanji are used in the game. If you haven't memorized your Hiragana & Katakana yet then I recomend you get those taken care of first. The book "Kana de Manga" is a good way, Iv'e seen people have sucsess. Also, you can get flash cards of Hiragana & Katakana at alot of bookstores. As for Kanji............ That's a much longer and much more difficlut process XD..... I'm pretty sucky with Kanji myself, I probably only know about 100 off hand, out of the 2,000 or so used in japanese, so I'm not really the best person to ask XD, but there is another line of books called "Kanji de Manga". There is also the Rosetta Stone computer program, which I own and I enjoy. Though, this is an instant imersion program, and it helps to already have some understanding. In anycase, you can always fake it like I do and depend on the voiceing XD! Also, I use Swap Magic V3.6 Plus 2-Disc with Magic Slide Tool .

Here (http://www.amazon.com/Rosetta-Stone-V2-Japanese-VERSION/dp/B000TFBZ4G/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1208063692&sr=8-1) is a link to purchase it on Amazon. As you can see it's rather expensive, and I'm very grateful to a very generous relative of mine that got it for me. It is a very good program though and has very fast results. You have to be sharp though, since there is no english. Basically, they show you pictures of stuff and say what it is in japanese, and what the Kanji or Kana is. There is an option to display what they are saying in Romanji, but let's face it, Romanji is pretty useless.
For example, they show you a picture of a cat next to a car and say:
ねことくらま!
Then it's up to you to figure out that (ねこ)Neko means cat and (くるま) Kuruma means car. There is no english or Funringana on the Kanji. You either pick Kana or Kanji.
(The exceptions being like, the exit button says "Exit" in english and stuff like that.)

ah, no wonder it is said that that is the true ending, with hanyuu acting more in context and them having to face all 3 dilemmas instead of wonderful miracles.

Question, if I were to somehow translate this game...do ANY of the scenes go by fast? (Like it just goes on foward to next scene on it's own without letting you hit X to proceed)
Well... Kind of... It has kind of a Fast Forward option... it doesn't go to the next scene, but it speeds the text. Like a normal Auto Play option for a normal novel, just faster

That short,
way too short.
Please, indicate me every mistakes and ommision I made. and I will edit my postMiotsukushi-hen starts when Rika/Frederica reach this Hinamizawa. She then notices very early on than Hanyuu is not in this world. She quickly comes to the conclusion than ‘’this’‘ Hinamizawa is the last one, thus convincing her to seek help from Keiichi.
She goes to Keiichi, explains the situation, and asks him to help her. Keiichi, in spite of his doubt, agrees to help her. Rika wants to let the events go normally from the start, and then, after, try and save Satoko a la Minnagoroshi-hen style. However, Keiichi disagrees, so they try to prevent Teppei from going back to Hinamizawa enlisting Shion to help them. After a meeking with Shion, they manage to get her to ‘’save’‘ Rina, therefore getting rid of the reason that Teppei would need to come back. However, they then learn that Rina has ‘’trapped’‘ Rena’s dad. Rika and Keiichi chose to warn Rena, thereby allowing her to free her father from the trap.
After neutralizing Rule X, or so they think, Rika and Keiichi think they are going to go up against Rule Y, but they are wrong. After the corpse of Rina is found, killed by the Yamainu at the Irie Institue, Teppei decides to come back to Hinamizawa and takes Satoko home with him. Rika finds Satoko at her parents' house with Teppei, but this time, insted of backing down like in Minnagoroshi-Hen she actually fights Teppei and ‘’shakes up’‘ Satoko. They are saved when Keiichi, Ooshi, and Akasaka(forewarned by Shion) show up. However Satoko falls into a catatonic state (i.e. L5) when Teppei says than she was a ‘’OyaGoroshi’‘ (i.e. she had killed her parents).
After this, Satoko is taken back to the Irie Clinic were she is keep under observation. The night of the Watanagashi matsuri, Rika gives Asakasa, Ooishi and Irie information on Takano's plan explains the current situation.
Unfortunately, Shion, coming to Satoko's bedside hears than Sakoshi is alive and has been at the Irie Instutue since the time of his dissaperance. The next day, she comes to the Irie Institue with a gun (and L5 status) and forces Irie to let her see Sakoshi., Irie gets her to Satoshi’s room but does not let her inside. The rest of the group, coming to find out if there is any good news about Satoko, tries to calm Shion down, but it ends up being Satoko, who just happened to wake up who calms her down.
After that, Rika has no other choice but to involve every one else in the plan. After talking about it, they come up with a plan. They will fake Rika’s death (i.e. Shion going L5), and Ooishi ‘’arrest’‘ Shion. Like in Matsuribayashi-hen, Takano gets suspicious with the situation going against the 48 hour theory. She gets the Yamainu to capture Satoko and Irie but they somehow miss capturing Rika. Rika alerts the rest of the group and a decision is made. Keiichi and Rika will deal with the safety of Satoko and Irie, while Rena and Mion will come in later with back-up.
The meeting with Takano gets complicated. They were supposed to trade Irie and Satoko for Rika, but Takano tries to re-nege on the deal and shoots Keiichi. Keiichi, with Hanyuu's help, manages to dodge the bullet and escapes with everyone to the forest behing the shrine. There they meet Mion and Rena (the two of them had to deal with some Yamainu armed with RPGs) at the rendez-vous point. Keiichi, Rena, Satoko, and Mion deal with the Yamainu coming after Rika. The traps put by Satoko in the forest do a great job, and they seem more ‘’serious’‘ than the ones in Matsuribayashi-hen. While Rika is hiding (injured perhaps?) but at the end of the day, Rika comes out of her hidding place, and has a showdown with Takano. With Hanyuu's help, she manages to dodge the bullets until she get hit (lightly?) by one.
However, by this time the Banken, alerted by Tomikake, get to the shrine, save Rika, and try to shoot Takano, but the bullets hit Hanyuu instead. Tomikake comes in right after and changes the order to kill Takano. At the end, Hanyuu dies in Rika’s and Keiichi’s arms.
I did not include some parts: the match that came before Mion stepped down and let Keiichi become class representative and all of the scenes that follow that, the discussion Rika and Tomokake have before the watanagashi matsuri night, Takano missed getting Tomikake killed but killing Teppei for keeping the ‘’1 killed, 1 onikakushied’‘. This was during the when group of Shion, Akasaka, Ooishi and Kuma-san when the oters were neutralizing the Yamainu in the forest. This made the text easier to organize.

The night of the Watanagashi matsuri, Rika get Asakasan, Ooishi and Irie on the plan against the plan of Takano and explain the situation. Unfortunately, Shion ( comming to Satoko bedside )hear than Sakoshi is at the Irie Instutue from all the time of his dissaperance. The next day, she came to Irie Institue with a gun ( and a L5 status) and impose to Irie to see Sakoshi., Irie get her to Satoshi’s room but let not her inside . The rest of the group, camming to take new of the status of Satoko, try to calm Shion, but it Satoko ( newly awake) than calm her. After that, Rika got no other choise than involve every one on the plan. After a talk, a plan in chose.. They fake Rika’s dead ( a Shion gone L5), and Ooishi ‘’arrest’‘ Shion. Like Matsuribayashi-hen , Takano is getting suspiciouswit the situation going agains the 48 hour theory. She get the Yamainu to to capture Satoko and Irie. ( they miss Rika ) Rika alert the rest of the group and decision are taked; Keiichi and Rika are going to deale the safety of Satoko and Irie, while Rena and Mion will comming latter in back-up.
The meeting with Takano get complicated, they were trading Irie and Satoko agains Rika, but Takano try to get everything and shoot Keiichi. Keiichi ( with the help of Hanyuu) manage to dodge the bullet and escape with everyone in the forrest behing the shrine. They meet Mion and Rena ( those two had to deel with some Yamainu armed with RPG while comming ) at the rendez-vous point. Keiichi, Rena , Satoko amd Mion deal with the Yamainu comming after Rika ( thre trapts put by Satoko all the time in the forest do a great job, and they seem more ‘’serious’‘ than the one in Matsuribayashi-hen) While rika is hiding ( injured?) By the end of the day, Rika get ot of her hidding place, and have a show down with Takano. With the help of Hanyuu, she manage to dodge the bullet until she get hit ( lightly?) By one.
But the Banken, alerted by Tomikake, get a t the shrine, save Rika a shoot Takano, but the bullets hit Hanyuu. Tomikake came after and manage to change the order to kill Takano. At the end,Hanyuu die on Rika’s and Keiichi’s arm.
I did not put some part ( the match than came before Mion transfert to Keiichi post of class’s representent and all the scene than follow from, the discution Rika and Tomokake got before the watanagashi matsuri’s night. . andthan Takano miss to get Tomikake killed , but get Teppei killed for keeping the ‘’1 killed, 1 onikakushied’‘ and hat was doing the group of Shion, Akasaka, Ooishi an Kuma san when the otre were neutralyzing the Yamainu in the forest) for making the text easier to organize.
Now that's a summary
I just... OMG... THANK YOU, ganbaru! It was time someone posted something like this summary... Nipah~
i've been playing again recently kakera asobi, and i've just read all the question arcs
however, after much trying i still cannot get the last image of shion in the hospital after taraimawashi. Judging for the intro movies it seems to be Mion (Shion?) regaining consciousness after seeng what would seem to be rena's hat.
how can i reach there? i though it could be a TIPS, but nothing yet... is it about selecting different options?

Hmm, I havnt played the game, so I may not be accurate, but that arc is from not meeting the requirements to get into any of the arcs. So to do that, you would not go to the dump with Rena.

I don't remember where exactly, but you get the last pic from a TIPS that appears in a later arc (forgot if it was Meakashi or Tsukiotoshi)

...Are the novels just novels that you read, you choose a arc off a screen and read it(or you watch each arc in a row),or do you do stuff to enter each arc?..How does that work out,if you choose stuff?
The arcs are usually in different worlds, how does choosing something make you enter one arc?

Yes, Ryuugu-chan, you must choose some options to enter the arc you want to play. For example, At the start, if you try to escape from all the problems, you wind up in Taraimawashi-hen, but if instead, for example, you decide to go with Rena to the dump, you are entering Onikakushi-hen. You have to keep choosing until the festival, that's when most of the arcs start. You know when they start because a poem of Frederica Bernkastel appears.

The problem is simple ; The game you got is the expantion version of the game ( Higurashi no naku koro ni Matsuri Kakera asobi) you need to get the first version of the game. What the game asked is to look for saved file of the previous version.

In fact, there are 3 versions
The original version.
The 'improved version'.
The 'cheaper' improved version. This version is the same as the 'improved version' but you have to use together with the original version.

Just a quick question. I've been planning to buy the Higurashi Matsuri for quite a while now. I do have a playstation 2, but does Matsuri work on a ordinary ps2?

The PS2 is region locked so if your PS2 isn't japanese, it won't play. In order to bypass the region lock, you have two options at your disposal: mod your PS2 or get Swap Magic. I would recommend to you the second one since it's only a disc that you load into your PS2.

i've played both matsuri and matsurik kakera asobi, but not yet to played append ver.
If you have bought the original Matsuri, then you just need to buy the append version of kakera asobi and need to load matsuri's saved data when playing this version.
If you don't have the original Matsuri, then you just have to buy Matsuri Kakera Asobi (the other, not append ver.)
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e100/kaitoein/higurashimatsuri.jpg
Matsuri Kakera asobi have many improvement from the original matsuri including:
-better scenario chart (in kakera asobi, you can jump to any part of the chart)
-Full Keichi Voice (in original matsuri game, Keichi only-voiced after getting into one of the chapter)
-New Movie added
-TIPS Section is voiced
-and many other.

. keiichii dodges an array of bullets because hanyuu possessed him right? or is he neo?
I didn't completely understand that part;
For what I did undersand Hanyuu stopped the time, but Keiichi was able to breek the spell by putting enought of his will for being able to move ) before the bullet got the time to move farther.
But of course, I might be mistaken. (if so, please someone said it .)

And how much does this swap magic cost me? do t hey sell it in stores so i dont have to pay shipping?
Thank you very much^^
I have another question but i do not knot how to post it ; in the future 3rd ds game there is a chapter called "tokihogushi"......was it in the ps2 version?

Nope, it wasn't. In the PS2 game, there were only 3 new arcs:
-Taraimawashi-hen (盥回し編, Musical Chairs Chapter)
-Tsukiotoshi-hen (憑落し編, Exorcism Chapter)
-Miotsukushi-hen (澪尽し編, Canal Drying Chapter)

Nope, all the arcs (well, except for Matsuribayashi-hen) are included in both versions of Higurashi Matsuri; Kakera Asobi is just a more enhanced port released as a response to how well the first game did, and which added more elements from Matsuribayashi-hen to the PS2 original arc that is Miotsukushi-hen.

No the game contains Miotsukushi-hen, which has Watanagashi, Meakashi-hen, Tatarigoroshi-hen, and Tsumihoroboshi-hen in it but no Matsuribayashi-hen in it.
Edit: Is there a patch for the PS2 version? I might be interested in getting it if so.

If you mean English patch, there's currently none as far as I know. I and the owner of the Higu wikia were planning to make one for it over the summer, but we need a big team in order to do so, and from what I heard, the PS2 disc can be very easily corrupted if edited improperly.
The second one is a slot machine game.
Slot machine? That's...interesting, to say at least. I watched the PV for it, and does getting a triple help you in any way at all? 3 Rikas in a row only made Keiichi slam the door on Rena's fingers ^^;

So... how exactly is the game played out? Is it like in Umineko where you choose what episode you want to play, or is it choices in the game?
edit - And how do you get to the ending? Does it just keep track of which arcs you've been through then automatically play the last arc? Same with the question/answer arcs as well, does it only let you play through the question arcs first then let you play the answer arcs?

You get to control how the plot ends, in a way. Each action you take leads to a different ending (i.e. If you pick all of the "good" choices and try to avoid every bad situation, you lead yourself into Taraimawashi-hen)
Yes, you have to play through the original 4 question arcs before any other triggers get unlocked, and then you can use the scenario jump and get to the alternate arcs.
That's what I've heard, at least.

I been looking for a copy of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri: Kakera Asobi and came across this, http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_nkw=Higurashi+no+Naku+Koro+ni+Matsuri%3A+K akera+Asobi+&_sacat=0&_odkw=higurashi&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313. One copy is about twice as much as the other one. Can someone point out the differences between both to me? It doesn't say much in the description. And what does "append version" mean?
The append version has more bonus features, I think. But I'm not sure why it would be half the cost of the original; if anything, it should be more expensive than the original. Unless the seller has never actually played the game and has that mindset where the original is more valuable than the updated version, just like how black-label Final Fantasy games value for much more than green-labeled ones, even though they have absolutely no difference between the two.

Hmm well that does make sense. Based on what you said, I guess this would be a great deal to take. Though I'm kind wondering why the price is so low compared to the others. Hopefully there's nothing wrong with it.
Edit: Found out why there are differences in price now. Apparently the Append version is a sort of bugfix to the original game along with some extra content on the disc. And it also won't run unless I buy the original version too. :S

http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2012/47/1353778228-scenario-chart-full.png for the scenario chart. It's full at 99,3%, so it could may help some people.
Why do many people state that compared to Matsuribayashi arc, Miotsukushi arc from the PS2 game has a much better moral in the end??
I already know the PS2 version is sadder than the original and why it is. But I would really like so much to know what the moral in the ending of Miotsukushi exactly is!!
Does anyone know about it? Can anyone tell me?

I think a lot of people prefer Miotsukushi because rules X and Z are present in it.
