well, the short answer is you probably need the proper codecs. Make sure you have the latest version of ffdshow (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow/ffdshow-20030523.exe?download) installed and check out the media configuration sticky at the top of the playback help forum if you haven't already.
