This is a highlight for me currently in the anime season. It's a great stylish horror series which has some unique aspects that I don't see in other animes.
I like how they use deep shadows and some of the character designs are way out there. The animaters also implement some wierd perspectives that heighten the creepy aspects of certain suspense scenes.
From what I have seen so far, the first story I saw coming but the second episode knocked for a loop.
So who else had a chance to view it?

I like the theme song and its overall creepy atmosphere..
Very stylistic but the story seems a little lacking...
Very good series...
On top of my watching list side by side with FMA...

not me ..weird series
I like it. This anime just suits my taste, kinda like a detective/horror type. I hope they would fansub this faster.
I'm really enjoying this series too. The art and styling is so different than the norm. The problem is that there are only two subbed episodes out right now so its hard to get a real feel for the series like we've already gathered from many of the other ones already started up.
In anycase, I'm jumping on the next one as soon as it comes out, no problem
I absolutely love this anime, but it doesn't seem to be very high on fansub groups priority lists, which sucks.
There's another group (or groups) doing it, but I don't know where their BT links are or what language it's subbed in. The files start with the tag [a9&ktkj] and they've released up through episode 5.

Ya im particularily enjoying this anime and i have seen on www.downloadanime.org has up to episode 5 RAW so no subtitles but thats it :(
The whole theme of it is so good a guy who gave up his life to pursue something of meaning to him thats what i take from it and he runs into things like many writers do and obviously he writes the stories of them Its uniqe and something I would definetely tell others to watch!
I do, I do...Sad that not many people seem to watch Kousetsu Hyaku Monogatari, then again not many people did watch Kimi ga Nozomu Eien at the begining..This series is amazing to say the least, and not only if one liked mystery animations..The stories follow the same style as Agatha Christie's books, where she used to set up all the potential characters and villains, and then someone dies mysteriously and out comes our weird but noble heroes (poirot, miss marple)...with many practical tricks such as psychology, ventriquilism and other trickeries to get the villains...Best part is no left-over for the next episode..each episodes end with proper conclusion..
One just need to watch one episode to get hooked to this series..Especially the mystery anime fans out there..Nine Thumbs Up...
how is this anime compared to say true lunar Shingetsutan Tsukihime?
I think I will let someone else who watches the series, answer your question..I have already explained a little about the anime's highlights...
Just saying that i like Shingetsutan Tsukihime and want to know if i like it would i like this series too?
Oh...So you havent watched an episode yet?...Definitely recommend it..I mean if you liked Tsukihame, you will like this series for sure...
Also real quick, which of the fansubs is better iyo a-keep or a-kraze? Not sure which one to dl since i like both groups.
Sorry for another reply but is Hundred Stories the same anime as this?
Yeah that's the other name...Hundred Stories...I have only dl'ed Ani-Kraze..They have speedy release and excellent sub..so no complain here..
how is this anime compared to say true lunar Shingetsutan Tsukihime?
I prefer Kousetsu Hyaku Monogatari.
Tsukihime (I have seen 5 episodes) is very slow. Bloody, but slow. Kousetsu (I have seen 2 and I'm d/ling the newest one right now) seems episodic in nature. Which means a single story is told in a single ep. The pace is "faster" in that sense. I prefer Kousetsu's character designs as well because I find them more imaginative and unusual than Tsukihime. (Tsukihime's leading male character looks like an uncanny Keitaro clone from Love Hina. :heh: ) Moreover, I prefer the voice acting in Kousetsu. The regular cast of characters are played by veteran seiyuu who are doing a great job bringing each chara to life.
Ok great! Started downloading them right now. Hope it rocks. But i have seen Mornir in here before and seems to be a smart guy. So i will trust what he says.
Err sorry i spelt your name wrong, Monir opps
I've enjoyed watching this series. It's quite dark and yet it can become bloody at times, though not New Fist of the North Star bloody but about as bloody as the earlier episodes of Shingetsutan Tsukihime.
I watched the first episode with that wierd ass ghost story and stuff,I remember that was a really wierd episode, and the animation was less than tolerable.Has it got any better?
Really? Why was it less than tolerable animation? When you mean ghost story, it shows you havent understand the plot yet. The story is actually a detective kind where the crimes take place in the past then committer of those crime or the superstitious people makes up stories of ghost and ghouls being behind those incidents.. IMO, the horror setting behind the animation only portrays the evil of those horrible crime..
Several threads on KHM or Hundred Stories exist already that comments on the series and your question could have been a nice edition of comments to those threads..Alas! only if you did a search...

Since I love weird ass gost stories that are really detective stories and I find the unusual art styple extremely compelling I have to say that it doesn't need to get any better than episode 1 since it utterly r0x0red!
Even so, yes. It has gotten better.
Please http://forums.animesuki.com/images/buttons/top_search.gif (http://forums.animesuki.com/search.php?) for another thread to post any further comments on since I'm closing this one.
Kousetsu hyaku monotadari are also being fansubbed by 2 chinese fansubbing groups.
One is the Kaiki in traditional chiense.
Another is the a9&ktkj (in fact it's 2 groups.) in simplified Chinese.
So it just proves that, if one knows more languages, one has more anime to watch.

I first thought it was one of those weird Japanese shows but after the initial confusing episode, I like it!
Yes! yes!!...Don Eunuch is on the wagon of this great show...Did you see the third episode?...That was the best episode IMO of the three...Cant wait till the next one comes out...

The series reminds me of BoogiePop except it has more continuity from episode to episode since it does feature the same cast. But it has a different self-contained story in each episode.
It's stylistic very nice looking animation, but then it's really slow-moving and lulls your brain into sleep only to throw some horrific image of a death onto the screen to wake you up.
That's the aspect that reminds me most of Boogiepop. I'd start to doze off then there'd be a scream and nasty murder ;)

I like the 2nd one better, especially the beginning part where a girl tried to make her baby sleep and then ........ :uhoh:
Btw, this show is really slow in being fansubbed. We almost have a gap of at least 2-3 weeks between episodes.
I really like this show as well. But on the episode subject, has there been a problem with the raws or something. Both A-keep and A-kraze have not put out an episode in weeks. Been wondering what happened is all. Be a shame if it wasn't being continued.
No worries since AniKraze just released the 4th..Hope they have better raws to work with this time since the last one was a crappy one..It was this annoying constant background humming noise in episode 3..I thought I have some problem with my MP, but when I dl'ed the A-Keep version it was totally fine..
To Hao Asakura, I liked the 2nd one too but the 3rd one was more meaningful to me and it gave me a little idea about our writer-character...

one has to wonder if there is a limit to the ugliness..No matter, our judges will serve the appropriate dish of justice to the villains..*off to dl*
ep4 i found really distrubing as i think most other ppl will after watching it. I know Akraze released ep5 havent seen it yet but it cant be as messed up as this episode. oh boy now i might have nightmares tonite

Err... actually, yes it does. They all just happen to be wrapped up in one character. ^_-
Well, two if you want to include Nagi.
I'm really digging this show as well. It and Planetes are by far my favorites of this season. I'm not seeing any links or references to episode 5 on A-Kraze's page yet, but no matter, I still have to watch episode 4.
In my opinion this show has been getting better with each episode.
ep4 i found really distrubing as i think most other ppl will after watching it. I know Akraze released ep5 havent seen it yet but it cant be as messed up as this episode. oh boy now i might have nightmares tonite :eek:Keitarou-san, this isthe real definition of incest which is to be hated and loathed..Their whole family is ruined..The last two survivors are mentally unstable after each killing a member of their family..What was even creepier that she was taking care of her little sister's carcass all this time..First I couldnt understand why those eye sockets were burning until I saw how she killed her little sister..Those sockets were empty..:eek:I'm gonna have nightmares too:(..But, damn, I love this show..This is one of my two most favorite show in this Fall..As for those who still doesn't want to see this series thinking it just some weird-ass ghost story, come on man/mam wake up and smell the murder..You can see each episode two/three times in one sitting and it still remains as good, if not better, as the first time you watched..
hmm..I am getting curious about Boogiepop..I will check to see if it is licensed..anymore info about this series will be helpful:)..
oh man ep 4 was awesome
cant wait for the rest
This series is f-ing sick!! But that is exactly why it is soo damn good. Every episode just leaves me in shock. Wow does this show go for the jugular. Ep4 really was the sickest imo.
The torrents for 5 were up for a bit, but then they got taken down. Something happened but I'm not sure what happened.

It is, TheRightStuf released it a while back. If you're in the U.S. you should check to see if your local Best Buy has any copies of the limited edition box set. It has the entire series, both soundtracks, and little anime knick knacky stuff, all for about $53.
Everyone seems shocked with Kousetsu episode 4. I think I'll go watch that now. ^_^
To the forum users here who don't know what's going on with episode 5, here's our channel topic:

Its status is exactly as it says. Translation / consistency errors were spotted at release time, so it was pulled so we can do a version 2. The torrents were not immediately taken down as I was not around to do that. We apologize for any inconvenience, and I hope you're all still looking forward to watching it.
Hey thanks for the update. I was wondering what happened to that episode. I was one of the unfortunate to have gotten the torrent before it was taken down. Looking forward to Ver2.

Downloading ep 4 from A-Kraze now. Can't wait my usual A-Keep version anymore. Couldn't resist the temptation due to all good comments about ep 4 here :heh:
Hope that ep 5 v2 of A-Kraze will be uploaded soon.

I started with KHM yesterday. I downloaded the A-Kraze eps because they have released more. I've only watched episode 1 at this point. Now I have 3 questions...
1. What is the translation for the sentence that just pops up (the one with HICBC.com in it)?
2. Is this sentence also in the A-Keep version?
For the A-Kraze folks...
3. Why some of the translation notes? Can't you just put the translation in the sub? Example:
I see a note. I want to read it and the note is gone. I have to "rewind" and pause the episode to read the sub AND the note.
The note for "komatakuguri" is almost the same as the sub.
The next sentence: "... You Yamanekomawashi!!" and translators note "yamanekomawashi = puppeteer", why not just use "You puppeteer!!"? Or is there a difference?
Look, I am not criticizing your work. I still think it's great what you guys are doing. I don't even know how to produce a fansub. I'm no translator and I have no idea what they're saying. But I find it very annoying to pause a movie without a real reason for doing so. (Which I think I did after reading some of the notes.) If you are still putting notes in the eps that's fine by me, but let them stay on screen longer please.
That's all.
Oh yeah... Cool show :)

1. What is the translation for the sentence that just pops up (the one with HICBC.com in it)?
It's some advertisement for another show (iirc it was sailor moon live action, don't nail me on that though :p).
2. Is this sentence also in the A-Keep version?
Yes, as it was in the raw. I don't know of clean way to remove scrolling text (besides cutting it out ;) ), and I doubt that one exist.

Episode 4 IMHO must be the most disturbing incest related anime that i have ever watch. At 1st i was kinda sympathize with the woman ( Oyoshi ), i just thought she was a victim of circumstances, but at the end of the episodes she just simply make me sick. I'm a little dissappointed cause the show did not point to her motivation for wanting her mother's death.. Maybe cos i didn't really get it. Could someone here kind enough to enlighten me on this.
Call it fortunate or not, i have the pleasure of seeing the original ep 5 release from akraze. It really change my opinion over Momosuke. He seems to be more active in the group than in previous episodes . Maybe all that wimpy side in him is good afterall.
Btw Ogin-san is really the hottest female anime character in the this fall season.

I'm a bit curious about Ogin's and the others' motivations in general for letting Momosuke tag along and saving his skin on a regular basis. Maybe it is simply a whim like they "feel like it." I'll bet as the series goes on, they'll genuinely form a sort of friendship bond with him tho.
As for episode 4...
They didn't explicity explain why she wanted to kill her mother, but perhaps it was so that she and she alone could belong to her father sexually. It also may have been a test of loyalty to him. By the episode's end, it's pretty clear she was the manipulator of the relationship although that doesn't exactly absolve daddy's behavior.

It seems that they have a mysterious leader who has told them to let Momosuke do as he wishes. I wonder what his motives are. The interesting thing about this show is that there are all these strange supernatural beings responsible for crimes. They always turn out to have mundane explanations, kind of like a R-rated Scooby-Doo. Then we have the monster hunting, arm of justice, who I think really are strange supernatural beings. Caught in the middle of this is Momosuke who is looking for the supernatural even though he is afraid of it. He initially believes in the monsters until they are debunked by the Ongyou, but doesn't see the real mysteries right under his nose. Speaking of real mysteries... what was that tiny gnome he was discussing matters with in episodes 2 and 3?!?

Woaaaaaa....Really didn't expect this ep 4 was sooooooo sick.
Damn the whole family is abnormal and ruined. And that Oyoshi is just a freaking slut having affair with her father, Yahei, and maybe to all the fishermen villagers. Moreover, she killed her sister and manipulated her dad to kill her mom too. This is insane show :twitch:
I wonder what Mataichi-san did to her at the end as the Ongyou??? Prolly finish her off as all the bad guys from previous episodes ???

Oh man, now I'm gonna always think of this as an R-rated Scooby Doo... X_x
The world of this show is one where the supernatural is very real, as are the creatures of lore. It's a fantasy. As for my own personal knowledge of Japanese mythology, I do confess it's rather limited. I have no idea what the hell Momosuke's "boss" is. At first I thought he may have been a kappa, but there's no hole on the top of his head for water or whatever.
Earlier episode spoiler references...
Also, maybe I misread misread something somewhere, but I thought that the "mysterious leader" you mention DID want Momosuke killed, or at the very least, silenced. Mataichi then defied this order in episode 3 by saving Momosuke from the river. This is why they sort of don't want to return home (was it in Kobe?) cuz then they'll have to face the music.
Speaking of real mysteries... what was that tiny gnome he was discussing matters with in episodes 2 and 3?!?Isn't the little ghoul is the editor who is pressing Momosuke to produce his "ghost stories"?

i like this series a lot. each tales unravels around a very specific human frailty/vice - jealousy, cruelty, incest, etc - psychological realities which compel mortals to acts of transgression for which there can be no atonement excepting some kind of judgment delivered by the supranatural beings.

Ep 5 of A-Kraze is out. Will download it after finish getting Macross Zero 3 Anbu-Aone version. If anyone have watched ep 5, plz put any comments about it.
It was er... pretty sick. :upset:
Pretty soon they're gonna run out of ways to gross out the audience.
Hmm... looks like Momosuke starting to become a more willing accomplice to the others' escapades.
I don't think they'll run out of ways... the Japanese can be pretty "creative" in strange ways. Ever seen hentai? :heh:

Ep 5 is not as disturbing as ep 4. Maybe cannibalism idea is simply NOT exciting and appeal to me :heh: It is nice to see Momosuke blends-in in the Mataichi group quite well.
Yeap.. Those two little ghouls seem too be the "middle man" that are relaying the information for the Matacihi group to complete their deeds. I guess that is how they know, all there is to know about the villains and are able to take appropriate action to get confession out of them. Also, it gives an idea of what the boss might be in position/status wise. If our heroes are the enforcer than the boss would be... I will save my speculation. The boss seem to be amused with Momosuke. Good sign?ive been downloading it got 3 eps so far over the week yet to watch sorta saving it for when i get more time. but since you guys like it i'll try to fit it in soonDont try to watch all of them all at once for the possbilities of having a major overload.

matricide this time ...
Hoping to get ep 7+ out soon too... :)
Just saw episode 6. Ok, now it's really starting to get to me: How the hell does Ogin-san's clothes stay where they are?!
Yup, it's really starting to look like Momosuke is becoming "one of them," as he took the lead in killing the baddie of the week this time. I wonder how his storywriting is going to be affected by this. :P
This was, for me at least, the most confusing episode to follow yet. I'll probably have to watch it again to understand why the troupe kept this "tanuki" in their possession to begin with, and why they felt the need to occasional let him out to go on a murderous rampage.
I noticed the clothes too... they seem to get looser and looser every episode.
That episode was very confusing for me too. I think I'd have to watch it again too...

That's why Ogin-san is my most favourite character for this series. Thx to her 'way' of fashion :naughty: Btw, I also don't really get the meaning of this ep 6.
I just love this creepy gem. At this pace I'm starting to feel a little disappointed that it's gonna end after only 12 or 13 eps :(

Who's seen episode 7? Woo! Yet another untouchable subject! :D I didn't get it until the end, but thinking about it's pretty nasty.
NECROPHIIILIA~. Anyways, a question: Momosuke knows that Mataichi-tachi are of some world other than his (ie, spirit world). Why, then, did he spaz out about Ogin-san? Does he not know that she's able to appear dead? I mean, his "friends'" eyes glow blue and such--you'd think he'd notice by now! :0
I really like how Momosuke is starting to be faced with the decision to either "embrace" the light (and stay oblivious in his world) or the darkness (and follow Mataichi-tachi). Go, darkness, go!
I <3 this series so much.
Great series indeed!!! This Momosuke dude is pretty perverted too ^^ Appears that he likes Ogin-san, but how does Ogin-san feels about him?

She calls him a perv all the time, but he hasn't really done much to suggest it. He's a red-blooded heterosexual, how do you expect him to act when she dresses the way she does?
:hmm:
She seems pretty sympathetic towards him, at least at the end of episode 7. Momosuke himself hasn't really shown much that would suggest he's gaga over her, but more along the lines of a protective nature, as she's a chick and he's a guy. Of course, Ogin can protect herself much better than Momosuke ever could, so it's kind of moot. It'll be curious to see if the show develops this relationship between them any further.

Well he shows that perv look not only to Ogin, but to the waitress who poured wine for him, and a few other women back in early episodes, but yeah, who wouldnt act like that -_-

He reminds me of me. :D
Episode six was truly confusing and to make it worse I have watched six and seven together. Always a bad idea when it comes to watching this series. Ballz, did you get your answer? I would like to compare them with mine. At the begining, our Tanuki was fated to be a "double" for some Shogun because of their similarity in physical appearance. Then the Shogun decided to leave everything to the unmentioned legit heir; that made our Tanuki, the probable illegitimate son, a threat to the reputation of the Shogun. The concern was raised to his mother and was told to eliminate him which would have benefitted her. He killed his mother with the poisoned cup intended for him by switching the cups and fled from the mention. He somehow then spreaded a rumor about him being a tanuki. Now here is what I think. Tanuki is a cultural concept and from that cultural stand point Tanuki's are pitied. This particular Tanuki was recognized by the Shibaemon troupe after they captured him because they were the same group that entertained this Tanuki when he used to be a double for the Shogun. Note that the doubles were not allowed to venture outside the castle. They existed for the only purpose of serving the Shogun. So the headman of the Shibaemon troupe let the Tanuki out of its shackle, in hope that it will go back to its true form. When the headman realized who committed those murder he soothed his conscience upon the self-explanation that the Tanuki's true form was committing those murder. The Headman paid with his daughter's life for his naiveness.
As for episode 7, it was easy to follow. I have noticed that both of these episodes lean heavily on the local cultural concepts which may be unrecognized by the strangers of those concept. Probably that's the reason episode 6 was so hard to follow and also episode six was shown as the reminsence of Sensei.
Makes sense to me, monir. That's pretty much the conclusion I drew from episode 6 the second time I saw it.

So... Anime kraze version is good or I still wait for AKeep??

I prefer Anime Keep, but A-Kraze is still really good, and actually improved with later episodes. So I'd go with the first few episodes that A-Keep did and then just continue with Kraze.
I been going with A-Kraze's version since it first came out. Their subs are decent actually pretty good. I haven't tried Akeeps version so I wouldnt know.

Why's no one discussing episodes 8 and 9?!
I enjoyed both, although the shock value is starting to wear off. <3 I like Momosuke's brother!
What I REALLY, REALLY enjoy is trying to figure out where this series will lead--they keep throwing little hints about Momosuke and "the darkness" around, so I'm curious as to what's going to happen. I think that Mataichi's grown fond of him (more or less). The Voice keeps telling him to bring him into the darkness, or whatever. And with Ogin being
dead, well, I wonder if they plan on killing him and adding him to the group as a spirit like she is?!
Maybe I'm just putting too much into this. <3
Aaa, need the next episode, hayaku, hayaku! *clap-clap* ;D
Seems that Momosuke is developing some magic skills as well, being able to know what happened before by looking at the item, and the trio seems only exist around him
Episode 8 was alright, I liked ep 9 a whole lot more. They've really fleshed out Ogin, but I kinda feel sorry for the other two, as their back stories have pretty much been nonexistant.
With four episodes left, I can't imagine there's much left to go from here.

Maybe it'll be like Princess Tutu, with a second season (arc) added to help flesh out certain characters.
I'm personally curious about the other two--Mataichi was saying something about choosing to leave the darkness, or not being bound to that world? Eh? That's got to lead to some juicy plot. <3 I know the writers are fairly consistent with tight scripting, so that could end up very interesting.
..... *swoon*
Btw--Ballz, I love the under-the-avatar-siggy. Boogiepop does indeed rule. :3 Why else would I love this show so much?!

Ditto. Another series I'm interested in is SciFi Harry. I think STA will start putting that out on dvd later this year. Yay.

Episode 10 = awesome ending. :0 Them little ol' ladies are wicked for holding Nagamimi back.
I NEED EPISODE 11. *spasms*
Looks like they're actually starting to wrap things up--at this rate, we might actually get a semi-satisfying end out of it all.
Episode is coming out very soon. I can smell it... :twitch:

If you can smell it, I hope that doesn't mean it stinks.
...
That was bad, even for me.
Erm, I meant Episode 11. But I heard it does kind of stink for an encoder... uses all the colors that are hard to compress or something. :(

... KYAH! XD *fangirlish scream*
My desires are totally coming to fruition. The interaction between Mataichi-tachi and Momosuke was really, really cool. I don't know what their plans are, only that Momosuke is...!
While I didn't really understand the next-to-last scene, the final interaction was so worth it.
Aaaaaa~! Utsukushiiiiiiii~! :0000
Now I have to wait about a week or so for the next episode. *sob*
Ahh... got my weekly Ogin-san fanservice fix with that one. Glad the show's creators have their priorities straight.

Your priorities are WRONG!
... but then again, I'm a heterosexual female, so my opinion on the matter isn't worth much. ;D I more prefer to keep eyes on the male leads~
*polite cough*
And dynamics, of course. That's why I was highly excitable earlier. *upwards pointing*

You have your eye candy, I have mine. =]
Regardless, the show still rules. I'm really looking forward to these final two episodes.

*impatiently bides time until next release*
I'm so terribly flustered. :c I want the next episode, but, no, I won't pester Anime-Kraze. I won't.
Let me just keep repeating that to myself. :0
(Any Anime-Kraze people here, thanks much for subbing such a unique show. I really love it--it's one of my definite favorites. I needed a new series to get into! Besides, Japanese mythology is really interesting.)
No problem; we love the show ourselves.
Episodes 12 and 13 are in the works... and it looks like they're really good ones too!
Episode 12 should be releasing VERY soon too. Seems to be a huge cliffhanger though...

If only you could hear the loud, GLORIOUS MP3 of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus blaring from my speakers right now! <3
"Foooor, the Lord GOD OMNIPOTENT REEEEEIGNETH!!! HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH! And he shall reeeeign, for ever and ever~!!"
Only 3 or hours until the download finishes. :D

Yes, I'm posting again. I can't believe that it's over. I'm still downloading 13, but I'm purposely saving it for tonight. Finishing a (good) series is just so bittersweet. :C On the one hand, you think, "HECK YEAH! That was an awesome conclusion! YEAH!"
But then again, you're also thinking, "OMG. There won't be any new episodes to look forward to. MY OBSESSION! NO~!"
So, yes. I'm happy it's finally come (and kudos to A-K for releasing 13 so much faster than 12! XD) but I'm also sad to see it go. <3
I'll probably post one more time to wax spoilerific about the ending. See you then~
Episode 13 was... wow.
An excellent series from start to finish.
just saw the ending to Kousetsu Hyaku Monogatari (hundred stories) and very sad and good ending !.!.. mang what a great series.., but why only 13 episodes??? like why not 100? Anyway for all those that havent seen this series, please look into it ^^...
Yeah, Hundred Stories is a great anime. Very unique style and atmosphere. And the series would probably drag on too long if it was 100 episodes.
