The episode ended exactly where I figured it would end. :D
They cut out like HALF the lines though.
It's interesting that the story can still flow exactly the same with 50% of dialogs cut. :heh:
Finally, the identity of Yotsuba Kira is revealed.
As well as return of a familiar grim reaper...
But the important part of this episode is: Misa + Nurse cosplay = WIN
Yeah, this is a very important part of the story - mainly because its the return of my Rem. <3
Edit: What a great episode, just as could as i thought it would be.
I love the role Misa plays in this episode, she really can be a great character when she wants to be, full of moe and love. Of course i'd say this episode was 100% quality viewing because Rem is back in the story, but its a huge story change. People have been saying over the past few weeks how they'd found this part of the story a lil' boring compared to what happened in the past - well after this episode, you'll understand that you're still watching the all loving Death Note.
Looks like we're getting the team after the Yotsuba Kira, and i can't say anymore.. :3

Great to see Rem back. Great to see Misa in action. Great to hear Hirano Aya making the characterization work, at least for me. I'm feeling as if the voice, which seemed out of place at first, is coming into its own. But of course I'm biased.
I remember from her blog how happy Hirano Aya said she was to have Rem's VA, Saitou Kimiko, another woman, back on the largely male set. I guess it was when they were recording this or last week's episode. http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9864/296110qa.th.jpg (http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9864/296110qa.jpg)`

Indeed. I finally caught up with you people :P I just finished episode 21, and the story seems to go in a different direction than I had first anticipated. It seems very possible that Light will get back his note now that Rem is on his side. However, I doubt he will gain back his bitter memory.
On the other hand, L is eyeing Misa funny again. But that's just L, he likes to suspect anyone who doesn't act according to his anticipations. Maybe I am biased, but I just can't stand his egoistic attitude.

Well.... despite how you personally feel about it, he's right.
Misa's attitude changed, because she is in league with original Kira's plan again, and back as a suspect.
You don't like L noticing that? Well, you seem to forget he's life is in danger. And the fact that Kira and 2nd Kira are both mass-murderers.
You want him to not fear that, or care for strange attitude changes and actions from ones he suspect (and is right) to be those killers? :eyebrow:
I would like to see how YOU would react if you were to be working with two suspects who you suspect to be mass murderers, and their wish is your death. :heh:
Not a bad episode! It seems like Death Note is returning back to the way it use to be.
I gotta give props to Misa, but I think the way she went about it was bad. Gave herself away, and L noticed her change. But I'm glad to see her return, now Light needs to hurry up and be revived!
Can't wait for ep 22, the preveiw looked good. I'm guessing with the apple being smashed maybe Ryuuk is coming back or something, since he alwasy seems to revolve around apples.

Well.... despite how you personally feel about it, he's right.
Whether he is right or not is irrevelant. Doubting people is easy, it is trusting each others that takes courage.

I believe L think everyone is a suspect unless they have proven otherwise. It is easy to doubt people, it is trusting each other that takes courage. He may find it odd that somone isn't acting like him/herself, but people's attitude changes over time. L like to play safe, I have no problem with it. But the way he offend people is why he is always alone. It has nothing to do with his intelligent, his social attitude is what made him an outcast.
On the other hand, you assume too much about me. I respect that L is scared for his life, but mass murderers or not, they are still people and should be respect as a fellow human being.
I believe L think everyone is a suspect unless they have proven otherwise.
If you truly think that, they you don't understand just how good L is.
L isn't ranked at being the best because of nothing you know, thats easily understandable thanks to the series, and noticing the change within Misa just shows how good he is.
My favourite episode since Light lost his Death Note.
Epic, epic, and epic win.
One thing I don't get.
How does Misa "killing" the guy prove that she has the shinigami eyes? Uchigi (SP?) showed her the guy's picture, as well as name, right?
in reply to FlashCE:
It doesn't really prove it, but Higuchi probably knows that the second Kira had shinigami eyes from the Sakura TV incident, and Misa introduced herself as the second kira and made Higuchi believe it by having Rem kill someone.
Rem doesn't like Higuchi so she hasn't told him anything unnecessary, so Higuchi thinks of Rem as the original Kira's (Light's) Death god. Higuchi used to think that the second Kira was memorywiped or captured for good, but Misa makes it seem like she was never caught and she never lost her ownership of the note.
Thanks.
I demand more appreciation for Misa in nurse outfit.
A nice ep but i still think this part is the most boring.
I loved the expression on the one's face (didn't really catch the name) who dressed up as Misa when she wanted to go on that ride...
I gave it a 9 ....

when i saw that misa said "im the secound kira" i tough wtf omg what did u do now, the very fact that she said that cud leade to her death. if L finds out that she calld her self the secound Kira ( and that rem kills the person) but L woudent know about a shinigami anyways so everything points at misa AGEND. this time she probly wont get off to easy, and that the "new kira" know her name so he can kill her at anytime. i just cant exsplain how i feel now after seeing that, well i just got to wait for the new episode
EDIT: misa in nurse outfit <3
I liked the ep, it was the first after Light's loss of his Death Note that didn't bore me. And Misa did surprisingly well, I only hope L doesn't ask too much about how she got the confession from that new Kira guy. :D
Seems like the series is finally coming out of stagnation.

misa in nurse outfit...hotness! :D
whow...rem is playing a dangerous game there...i wonder if she is acting on her own or is actually going along with light's plan (before his brain was wiped clean) ~
misa...i smell trouble...she is really going to dig a bit too deep and get herself in some serious pinch of a situation...
light is beginning to notice that "kira" might have the same mind set as him...and i think L is going to figure that out sooner or later...

Indeed, I don't understand how good L is. He maybe a capable detective, but as a person, he is no better than Light. Instead of trying to convince Kira to stop killing, he taunts Kira to hope that he would kill someone so that he can capture him.
Both L's and Light's ability is overhyped. Anyone who care would notice the change within Misa. Moreover, as far as I can tell, most of their tactics are full of holes and inefficient. But since this is an anime, I wouldn't argue about it.

She may be taking risk, but even if she said she is a second Kira, it wasn't sufficient for anyone to capture her, even with all the previous evidences. For all people know, she could be lying in order to get the real Kira to disclose himself. Moreover, there is no reason/benefit for the new Kira to kill her. Sadly, in this anime world, or in some part of the world, if one happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, one could end up in jail.
We're awfully getting close to that part of the story now :D
And quite a difference from the Manga during Higuchi's drive.

I think Misa has done a very stupid thing. Now L will suspect and Light is starting to worry. Can't wait to see the reaction of L in the next episode. I also think watching the OP and End was interesting than the first time I watched.
Rem says it's all as Light planned out right? I'm rather surprised he can plan so far ahead.

I have no idea why you're getting all emo about L's personality.
That has very little importance in this case.
We're not dealing with a petty criminal case here, we're dealing with someone that can, and will, shake the entire world in fear. The worst mass murderer in history of mankind. Perhaps you're getting too attached to Kira side, getting mesmerised by Light and Misa's personality?
Also, you boast to be much more of an intelect than L and Light? orly. :D
If that's true, I would love to read your mystery novels.

To me, Light and L is the same. Bird of a feather maybe? I am not a fan of mystery/suspense story, and I don't write mystery novels because I found it very pointless.
What I am most upset with is the theme of "justice". Using fear maybe an efficient tools, but if people only act based on fear, why have a mind?
The worst mass murderer in history is the war monger, Light's killing doesn't even come close to it. It wasn't the number of death; it was the corruption of people's heart. Mankind's greatest enemy is not some super power or mass weapon of destruction, it is the evil within one's heart. The way people torture and kill each other during war is very barbaric.

You're waaaay off the topic here.
Slaughter as result of political or military oppression isn't what we're talking about. You're lumping "War criminals" and homicide murderers together.
I figure you're smart enough to understand the diffrence, yes?
"omg it's people's evil heart that's evil!"
....... um, no kidding? That's not even what the issue is here, where the heck did you suddenly get the urge to spew that out? :heh:
Anyways, any further discussion on this topic will require manga spoilers.
Hence, I'm ending it right here.

Not that Misa doing something very stupid is anything unusual :heh:

I completely agree with you-- one of the reasons the two of them paced each other so well at the beginning is that they seem to think alike and seem to also hold very similar moral beliefs. Light saw nothing wrong with killing in the name of "justice," and L saw nothing wrong with illegally holding accused people captive and torturing them in the name of "justice." It's especially interesting, in that both ends seem to have backfired on both characters equally: L's torture of Misa and Light didn't solve anything, and Light's killing of various criminals didn't put a stop to crime. "Justice," in the eyes of both characters, has not been served.
This ep was a big improvement, and it's nice to see Rem back :D I could have done well with much less of Misa, but at least her annoyingness advanced the plot, so hooray!
erm...so does that mean the anime is going another direction now?? i hope not~
No, the general content is pretty much the same.
They simply cut out quite a few dialogs, and made dramatic sexually suggestive moves by Higuchi, making him look more of a pervert than the original.
Only diffrence is dramatic effect, so you don't have to worry about anime going "original storyline".
Many other dialogs were cut too. About 50% of the dialogs were cut through out this episode.
OMG misa just did the most stupid move. I really wonder light did calculate all the way even up to her stupidity.

2007-03-08, 10:30
Like I said before in a previous episode thread, it seems author Ohba Tsugumi had deliberately left enough hints for the reader to guess who it is all along.
In every Yotsuba board meeting, it's always Higuchi that actively suggests having whoever they want dead killed. The other board members simply went along with his suggestions and even made improvements to it.
One example is after Matsuda got busted, while two of the board members go to interrogate Matsuda and the other board members discuss what to do with him, it was Higuchi who first suggested having him killed.
In the same episode later on, one of the board members flips out and wants out of this Killing Meeting. Again, Higuchi was the first to declare his death sentence by saying he will die the next day. From that moment on, he was a dead man walking.
Just so you know Kinny Riddle, the manga didn't give it away in the same sense that the anime did. Sure it was still the same talks and he did point out about that someone should be killed, but the director went a certain way of pulling of these scenes - nothing to do with Ohba Tsugumi.

Pardon me, but I don't understand what you're talking about. The anime simply used the same dialogue from the manga, it still suggests it's him, I don't see any difference whatsoever. Please be more elaborate.
Okay.
I believe that the anime has done a worse job at hiding who the third Kira was upto this point. True that the two have the same dialogue, but its just the way that the shots focused on Higuchi, it was giving it far to much away. I've spoken to many fans who have never touched the manga, and they thought it was him coming into this episode.
Anyway, not to happy with the new scenes added. Higuchi may not be the best of men, but if he believed that she was the second Kira, and she has the eyes - why jump on her like that, which could anger her?

OMG misa just did the most stupid move. I really wonder light did calculate all the way even up to her stupidity.
Um...how was her move stupid?
If anything, we can conclude it sped up lights plan..now they know who the 3rd kira is....
Well, Misa's move was a bit reckless since L now suspects her of still being kira.
And L will take it very seriously, he knows that the second kira can kill him without knowing his name.
When Misa showed the record L thinks only "How did she get Higuchi to say this?" In the worst case, L will be able to connect Misa's "date" and the death of that boss Rem killed.
Well I found the band who plays the new opening..lol.

if K and L were not almost matching in standard, they couldn't have kept up the investigation so far, and it is this amazing battle of wits that lured us to start with, isn't it? ( or at least, part of the reasons among the rest)

i agree over here.. a slow reading of the manga and by total emersion of self into the manga, time seems to hold and stand still longer, creating some sort of stuffy atmosphere while that is what the anime can't create. the pauses that a reader takes is not displayed in the anime whereby you do not control its speed, and therefore sometimes certain emotions cannot be created as when reading. the anime did seem to point out the 3rd kira more obviously, losing the tension and suspicion the manga provides..
sorry if i wrote so long and am so naggy..~
gd that it's back into action, but somehow despite the very very good plot, the new characters started to bore me.. especially more so when..*Edited and snipped*

Misa: "Who are you?!"
Rem: "There are Death Notes and Shinigami, Light is Kira and you're the Second Kira."
Misa: "OKAY I BELIEVE YOU!"
If a tall good looking creature appeared, and told me information that made sense (and knew about my feelings for a guy), i'd also believe Rem.

Um, shes been held captive for the past couple months on the belief that she and light were kira. Then she sees Rem, and I don't find it too difficult to believe that she'd believe Rem. It all fits perfectly for her, especially her <3 for light.

This episode calls an interesting question,
That lousy Kira said that if Misa was really the second Kira, she'd have the red eyes...The question is : when I discard DN ownership, I loose all memories related to it, but what about the eyes ?
It appears clearly Misa lost them, and even after meeting Rem again. Does she have the make the deal again ?
Damn, L looked pretty dark in the end...
Since I got myself carried on watching the other shows that are approaching their end on April, I lost track a little bit of the previous week's episode.
I cannot believe that DEATH NOTE passed a little over halfway its running time.
Honestly, Misa (with help from Rem) in this episode was magnificient to come on her own for developing such a tactiful plan in order to pull out and record the confession from Higuchi.
He's a rotten, capitalist pig, corporative and there is no doubt about for Rem and me.
He is staining and dirtying the name of Kira, murdering anyone even those who regret and repent from their crimes.
The irony of that judgement is that for Light the feeling of being once Kira started to stir up within him. The current Light is a diametric opposite from the one who used to be the cool antagonist at the start of the story. However, I remark that the current Light has no memories of the death note, though the personality is the same.
Light felt from the previous Kira that the judgement passed upon the criminals was done in fairness. He compares to the Kira if he could also show such determination to tell apart and denounce the atrocious deeds of the true criminals that neither regret nor take responsibility for their acts.
All I can say is that L is the least happiest of the crew to be told the outcome of such bold and unexpected plan.
L suspicions about Light and Misa may and certainly have reversed back prior to both of them relinquishing the death note.
I mean L is wondering how come Misa knew who to suspect right away at being a potential Kira and took the risk for such a plan to get Higuchi reveal himself as the proven Kira.
And L did not overlooked the fact either when Misa told Light that she would do anything he orders her to.
Prior to this arc, L deduced that 2nd Kira is the type of person malleable and being manipulated on to willingly allow him or herself bossed around by Kira for devotion out of plain admiration.

If things are working out as Light expected them to, it shows how little he cares for Misa.
Kira #1 and Kira #2 were supposed to be able to recognize each other when they met. Since Misa went straight to Higuchi and accused him of being Kira, and Higuchi accepted Misa as the second Kira, most of the Kira investigation team probably think Misa and Higuchi are guilty, but Light is innocent.
