I guess I will say the girl. :heh:
Well, just to set a topic we can talk about, the 2nd ending came out a few days ago? Has anyone listened to it yet? As always I'm suffering from the "didn't-really-liked-it-at-first-but-after-the-30th-time-it's-growing-on-me" effect :p
I can't say I like it. I found myself thinking the Checker was bit better. Not that I Checker for Marimite to begin with. I feel that both song don't really match well with Marimite.

It's Chercher, dxanato. XD
I liked Kirei na Senritsu from the start (although "rush" is even better, it's on the same single). It's waaay better than Chercher in my opinion.
I can't wait for my OVA to arrive. Anyone else actually ordered it / will buy it? :)

This time, CDJapan is my choice of pre-order site. They still have some 'first-press' editions available. I hope they will honor it. While CDJapan is a great merchant with reasonable prices, they have reputation on me, occasionly not to send the first-press editions when they are in big demand although I managed to order when they were still available.

I ordered the second OVA Limited Edition at play-asia. The shipping prices over there win, and their customer support's nice too.
I'm gonna try cdjapan next time, though.
But this is offtopic..:heh:
The OST will be released on the same day. So many things to make me a happy Marimite fangirl. :D

The mysterious girl is the mysterious part but I think the mysterious panda is the fun part :D

Hmm... I already know a bit about the misterious girl so for me, the panda is the misterious one ^o^

I think it 's really flaw that the audio commentary by voice actors is removed in FanSub. well, even if there is a FanSub of audio track2 version, though their desultory chatting seems hard to put a subtitles. :D
so...it might be a privilege to the people who bought DVDs. ;)

The audio commentary is included in the raws, which are also available by torrent. Why would fansubbers include tracks they hadn't subtitled, particularly when those tracks are available from another source? It would be like deliberately teasing people with something they couldn't have.
If someone wants a track that hasn't been subbed, it seems logical to me that they would download the raw (and buy the DVD to support the series too, of course!).

Mmmm.... can't wait till the next OVA is released. Although I'm delighted about the mysterious panda, I more curious about the mysterious girl.
Who I really look forward to is Touko, but sadly we'll only see short events of her, at the moment. Can't wait to see her grow closer to Yumi, and I love her *seems annoyed but cute nonetheless* voice.

I forgot the reason the bouton were dress in Handera uniform. I do know that uniform that Yumi wears is her brothers. Yuuki and Yumi look very much a like in the same uniform. Wonder how Yuuki would look in Lillian uniform.

Marimite 3rd Season OVA, vol 3 Quick Review
Today, the OVA has been released, as always, I would like to make a quick review after a quick viewing. Overall, it is far from disappointing. the storyline follows faithfully from the novel mainline. The focus of the story is actually not about the mysterious girl alone but also about the Hanadera sport festival and of course, the relationship between Sachiko and Yumi
After I watched this episode, I feel that reading the novel earlier may affect your judgment greatly. The story starts with Kanako is already assumed familiar to the viewers. After the sei-sama appearance to satisfy sei fans, the conflict between Kanako and Yumi is lurking ahead. My point is that, the story is too rushed.
While in the novel, many pages are required to build up the tension between Yumi and Kanako, It will only take a few minutes for the anime episode to reach the peak at the rose garden. As for me, I do not feel the same tense feeling when Sachiko is confronting Kanako. While I understand the time restriction faced by the animators, I believe Marimite fans are happier if they can split this story into two episodes.
I will skip the Hanadera storyline comments, since it is a short story although a quite heartwarming one. My overall impression is that marimite fans will surely enjoy the episode throughly especially for those who haven not read the novel. But my feeling is that the story is a little bit too rushed and lose the emotional momentum.
I am pleasantly surprised at the new ending art. It is basically, different. I kinda like it to see the marimite characters are drawn by different artists. Shimako looks quite like her onee-sama, Sei.

Ohmigod. That ending was, like, blatant yuri (to me, yes). >w<
And, it was short, but there was Sei-sama. Too bad there was no kisama, though..
Can't wait for the Lilian sports festival and Sachiko in gakuran. *drools over the preview*
I know the novel for that "arc", by the way, and I was satisfied with it. Just like I was satisfied with Kanon 2006, although I know the game.. may be just me. :heh:

Wow, first off, loved the new ending. I liked the animation waaaay better than the ending for OVA1 and OVA2, and the song was also better. The backgrounds looked very pretty, with a musical motif. Shimako was the prettiest, Rei-sama as usual meh.
But who is the one to the right of Yumi, at the first scene? Yumi, Yoshino, .... and is that Noriko? Why?
And I agree the yuri level was upped, not just one, but two or three notches in the ending. Especially the one with Yumi and Sachiko. :p
I think I'll post my thoughts of the main episode later. I need to go back watching that ending:D
I found myself enjoy how the ending was done with music and all. Now for the whole OVA I kind figure that first part would be a bit rush but if you haven't read the novel I don't think it going to be a big deal. Yes, the panda scene was very touching like I though it would be.

That "kidnapping" scene where Yumi was gagged and stuffed in that box was almost scary. When I read a synposis of it from the manga it gave me the impression that it was going to be something funny.
On another light, I guess we now know how Yumi got associated with a panda, like she is in the game.
Oh! My! God! That ending is just stunning and I am like the 100th person saying this. The art is beautiful and breath taking. WOW!!! Shimako is drop dead gorgeous. :D Everyone in the ending is so pretty. That is all I know. I will wait for the sub then I will know what the show is about. :heh:

Not satisfied with the previous result. I utilized powerdvd to capture the scenes from my-just-arrived-DVD.
I move the thread to the Marimite image thread
But who is the one to the right of Yumi, at the first scene? Yumi, Yoshino, .... and is that Noriko? Why?
Yes, it's Noriko and it's not weird (as I myself first thought!) because the theme for the ending is to show the en bouton as little angels, bringing a pleasant musical touch to the lives of the beautiful rosas.
At least, that's how I saw it :heh:
The ending is beautiful, I'm very glad they went back to drawing a full ending instead of just putting some scenes of the episode in a small corner with the credits....
The art ressembles the one used in the Princess Pincess ending and DVD covers, which are gorgeous too, I wonder if the animators are the same?

Question:
There's something I didn't understand, either because there are too many parts I didn't grasp in japanese or because it wasn't explained : did the Yamayurikai help Hanadera the previous year ? if so, how? and who went to help ? because both Yoshino and Shimako were equally surprised at the atmosphere at the Hanadera festival...
I guess Sachiko found a way to escape that year
Shimako wasn't Sei's soeur yet but she was always helping them so ?
Yoshino was maybe sick so she didn't go ?

The funniest moment for me is when Yumi talk with Toko at "mi-ru-ku hall". This episode seems a bit rush, I'd rank "vacation of the lamb" as the best marimite OVA so far.

Ah... I was confused at first because I never associate Noriko as an en Bouton. She seems to be more of Shimako's personal helper than a member of Yamayurikai. I wonder why? She no longer is aloof as she was earlier...

I don't remember this being explained in the OVA. I might have missed it, but anyway. The Yamayurikai helps Hanadera every year. Last year they were also presentators, but instead of for the game, it was for the Miss Hanadera contest. I'm not sure if Yoshino and Shimako went.

Well, I enjoyed that third episode most of the three, for the emotion. Right at this moment, just having finished watching it, I think it one of the classics of the entire three series. The various moments between Yumi and Sachiko were just full of feeling, especially at the end. Tears to my eyes. And the evolution of the characters continues to be so interesting.
I thought Koshimizu Ami was also outstanding as Kanako. Creepy and sympathetic and full of feeling. Just great. Tears to my eyes there, too. I haven't read the novels, but I had no trouble figuring out what was going on.
The plot involving Hanadera seemed a bit forced, but it was interesting, and the emotional outcome was totally worth it. I was scared, too. The flashback to Kanako worked. And the evolution of Yuki and of Kashiwagi was good, too.
As for the new ending animation, what more can I say? I noted in the credits that it was given only one credit: to Nakajima Atsuko (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=59) 中嶋敦子 , who has done a lot of anime and was in overall charge of animating Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura、Getbackers, and You're Under Arrest, and did character design for Trinity Blood. Here is her page on Japanese Wikipedia (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B8%AD%E5%B6%8B%E6%95%A6%E5%AD%90), and here is a page about an exhibition of her work (http://www.preani.com/events/an_2006_ope.html).
By the way, I enjoyed the first episode of the new show Hitohira, about which I did a blog post (http://hashihime.blogspot.com/2007/03/hitohira-great-start-for-new-season.html). And I look forward to hearing Itou Miki (Sachiko) as a character in the new show Touka Gettan, which starts next week. There are some details about it on my blog (http://hashihime.blogspot.com/2007/03/april-anime-preview-picsstaffcast.html) and on Random Curiosity (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2007/03/26/spring-2007-preview/).
I am only guessing but at the time Shimako was not Sei petite souer. Yoshino may had health problem or her present was not need for the Hanadera event. It maybe that they only request that Rose help and the bouton and bouton petite souer are not invite. I am sure if the Rose request them to be there to help I am sure Hanadera will not say not to it but I again I am only guessing.
I thought Koshimizu Ami was also outstanding as Kanako. Creepy and sympathetic and full of feeling. Just great. Tears to my eyes there, too. I haven't read the novels, but I had no trouble figuring out what was going on.
Yeah, I too really liked Kanako's voice and the seiyuu's acting
Tsutako's always looked pretty to me, but she looks even prettier without her glasses, a bit softer
Something I didn't like in this ova and in the previous one is the adding of the "romantic filter" as I call it, the soft white layer put on the screen when the scene is emotionnal... that always cuts off all emotions for me, and if there is something I'm enjoying while watching Marimite, it IS to get emotional
So it spoiled my fun when Sachiko was heading toward the panda... I couldn't get moved
It's like they put out a panel with "now! get moved!" on the screen and I'm a bit surprised then can't get moved at all.... I wonder if it bothers somebody else too?
The effect is similar to the big red roses blooming at the end of he Haru season, it troubled me a little but that scene was already so full of emotions that the adding only cooled down the intensity for me. This one, I remember, did surprise many of us when the ep was out.
Oh wow. That was VERY impressive work by Koshimizu Ami. Awesome. It's rare that I look up seiyuus after an anime, but I just had to. What a performance :)
I mean, I knew right from the start that I was most certainly going to like Kanako (as opposed to Touko), but this voice makes it very easy.
While I was looking on her casting list, I was astonished. THAT was Megumi from Kanban Musume??? THAT was Nina from Mai Otome??? How very impressive, because all voices had a very distinct ring to them, even though they were very consistent.
Anyway, she's definitely on my watch list now. Kudos!

Honestly, were I in Yumi's shoes, I'd be scared shitless.Kanako is creepy all right. But I suspect from what she said that she has issues in her past that helped make her that obsessively scared of men and desperate for an "angel" to look up to. So maybe (I haven't read the novels) Yumi will work her magic on her, too, and bring out the wonderfulness inside. Her combination of shyness and strong forthrightness is pretty interesting.
Koshimizu Ami (Kanako) won the 2006 Seiyuu Award as best supporting actress for her role of Karen in Code Geass. She is definitely one of the up and coming stars. And she is a tall, strong, beautiful person, too, which helps her career even more. She has a good blog (http://blog.excite.co.jp/amisketch/) (in Japanese), with frequent pictures. She turned 21 in February.
Amisuke (her nickname) was the subject of a blog post I made (http://hashihime.blogspot.com/2007/01/yuri-seiyuus-koshimizu-ami-weds-sanpei.html) about a radio stunt she pulled with her (female) friend Sanpei Yuuko (Renton in Eureka 7, etc.), where they pretended they had gotten married. I probably overestimated the possibility that they really were gay, but she has has talked about Pe (Sanpei Yuuko's nickname) as her "wife" before in her blog, and said in a post Wednesday that she has known her for seven years and hopes they can always be together. In any case, they have been good friends for a long time, and Pe is an excellent seiyuu, too. Judging from her own blog and others', Amisuke seems like a warm, natural, gregarious person with many good friends.
Amisuke began her career when she was 16-17, as Nadja in Ashita no Nadja, and she has played very diverse roles, as Mentar said, from Claes in Gunslinger Girl to Tenma in School Rumble to Tenko in Kamisama Kazoku to Paraietta in Simoun. Here is more info (http://hashihime.atspace.com/Hashi_seiyuusB.html#koshiami) about her. And here are some photos: (1) from the cover of her CD (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/list_from_code_banner.html?current=100&key=318917) (with video DVD included) Natural; (2) with the great seiyuu Nabatame Hitomi draped all over her; (3) with someone cosplaying her role of Ritsuko Kubel Kettenkrad from Kujibiki Unbalance:

OT: Ah, I remember now. Shimako became a Bouton after the Sports Fair (Sachiko-sama asked Shimako soon after, and Sei-sama intervened after about a week).
Anyway, back to the episode. As someone who read the novel beforehand, I have to admit I am biased. In the novel, we get to know more of Kanako; there are only hints of her obsession before the greenhouse incident. However, in the OVA, Kanako is simply, IMO, more of a trigger for Yumi-Sachiko bonding. I agree that Koshimizu Ami portrays Kanako's obsession well in the greenhouse, but otherwise I wasn't able to connect with her.
I'm also suprised that the seiyu was also Megumi and Nina.
All and all, great episode. Especially Sachiko-Yumi bonding. You can just feel how much they care for each other, it just warms you up. Sei-fied Yumi is also a plus!+ The epic Lilian-jin with a horde of Hanadera students rushing towards the Rose towers.:D
+ The panda scene and Yumi recalling their conversation of the greenhouse.
+ Touko and Yumi in front of the Milk Hall.

Judging by when the second OVA was finally subbed, my guess-timate would be three weeks or four weeks from the release date. Don't take that to heart, I'm only basing that off what I've seen from the first two. I'm hoping for the best release time for the fansub version. I swear I plan on learning Japanese just for this series!
:upset: lol.
Thanks to all of your reviews I am very excited about the third OVA. It's been nothing but good words about it... I've seen the credits (which isn't much, yes I know but I'm marimite junkie) and they only made me want to see what came before it. Mannnnnn do I wish I would have learned japanese instead of english.
that seems like way to long to wait.... darn.. haha oh well, for this series im willing to wait :p lol

They better have a 4th season! As a Yumi x Touko fan, its sad to know that most of the 'good stuff' isn't in this season (T_T) Novels will have to suffice for now~
Yeah, I'm rather worried that we might *******(jinx-proofed) in animation. Novel spoilers about the latest! Don't tell me I didn't warn you!According to the synopsis:今年もバレンタインはドキドキ…。
「妹にしてください!」と祐巳に逆告白した瞳子。
This year's valentine's day is also exciting...
"Please let me be your petite seuor!" Touko reverse-confesses back to Yumi.
WHAT??!!!!!

Since it was released on March 30th, It will need a bit more time to arrive at my local bookshop. I am not willing to order it online.
Correct me if I am wrong. This year, en-boutons are having the treasure-card-hunting again. Touko originally was unwilling to participate, but finally did it and found Yumi's card?

Yes, that's it. The portion I translated is from the back cover, which is posted on Gokigenyou.com. I haven't got my hands on the actual book yet.
I hope I haven't spoiled anyone. Isn't it a lovely picture of the two (almost said couple:heh:)

Yes the en-boutons and the newspaper club are having that game again. However, from the next line:
宝探しの紅いカードを見つけた生徒と、巳はデートすることに。
seems like someone else found the card, and Touko got.... desperate? I'm unsure how to translate that sentence, though.
Does anyone know when the subbed version is coming out? And where can I download the raw version without subs? Thanks.
I though last book had state that she had found the card and ask make me your bouton. This what other people who read the book had post here and other threads. I don't know much about the book that was just release.

[warning]major spoiler of novel #27
to put it simply, Sachiko noticed the hidden place of the red card earlier than anyone. but "fortunately"(or fatally), Touko got the red card ('a warmed red card' was under the cushion of Yumi's chair. :D). and they dated Sunday of the week after next. then finally Yumi opened the key of Touko's heart numbed. Touko confessed that she had been caught in the obsession that she should become a doctor (it is circumstances of her family). but after all, the rosary has not been handed over yet... and Yumi repeated monologue many times unnaturally "I finally found a putit soeur" or "because I got a Touko-chan" or something like that. I hope it is not a hint of a twisted plot...:(
...sorry, I hesitated but wrote it. people who didn't want to know that, forgive me.

Shoot. The main website (http://www.gokigenyou.com/) had the title image for "Ready, Go!" for split second, but it seems like they took it down. Someone messed up and prematurely put it up, I guess?
For those who missed it, it was a Lovely shot of Yumi and Sachiko during the folk dance. Definitely will be my favorite cover image from the OVAs.

I think that it might just be me, but did that sub 'miss' a line in the scene where Yumi (in panda costume) is hugging Sachiko? the line after that 'missed line' was something like 'I didn't think that you would find me so quickly'.....maybe the 'missed line' was just part of the line before (or after) it and I just didn't catch it properly.
otherwise, I thought that it was a great job.

hmm..the video looked a bit odd to me..dunno maybe twas because the first thing i saw when i woke up was that the subbed version was out and i dwnloaded and started watchin it in some 10 mins. I dont think the subber missed al ine, but rather his two sentences covered up for the 3 lines that were spoken, but it is just my speculation..
Episode is again Maria sama at its best. I like Kanako but i think she should try liking Yumi-chan for what she is and not chase only the image in her mind. Touko chan blushing was tottemo kawaii moment for me in the episode.
The last scen did look a bit funny with Sachiko and a Panda running towards each other, but i guess its fine...After all Sachiko had to prove her thoery from the Greenhouse :heh:
the specials..well as usual, they are totally awesome..couldnt stop laughing..looking forward to episode 4

I just rewatched the scene and couldn't find any time when there was dialog with no subs on the screen, unless you mean where Sachiko nods and just makes a noise without saying any words? If you could give me a specific time, that would help. :)

Now that I've watched it, I feel a bit weird.
Before, all I knew about Kanako was that she was tall and a yumi-fan. I imagined that it was because she saw in Yumi all the qualities she lacked: approachable, friendly, cute... Generally unremarkable... I thought she admired and envied Yumi, and wanted to be like her. That was confirmed when Noriko described her as a kind of loner.
Now, I kinda dislike her. The stalker thing was already sort of bad, but the speech she gave to Yumi... "Be how we imagine you to be!"... WTF was she thinking? I was glad Sachiko was there to stand up for her petite soeur.
Also, question:
Kanako implied she wasn't the only yumi-fan around. How many are there, and are they all like that?
Before, all I knew about Kanako was that she was tall and a yumi-fan.
Same here, but now I find her a much more interesting character.
Now, I kinda dislike her.
Sure, she was out of line trying to lay all that responsibility of living up to the idea she had impossed on Yumi, but at the same time it makes me wonder why was she doing that, and how will Yumi help her? (You know she is going to! Yumi can't help butting in when she thinks someone needs help). Much more interesting than if she was just some shy, gawky younger girl who liked Yumi.
Kanako implied she wasn't the only yumi-fan around. How many are there, and are they all like that?
Of course, Yumi is a bouton after all. As the sœur to such a popular figure in the school as Sachiko she is bound to attract attention. Plus she is cute and does have a lot of admirable qualities. If nothing else she can serve as a figure of "fantasy identification" for all the other "shy and unremarkable" girls in the school who can identify with her and might want to picture themselves in her place. ;)

I also feel a little weird about Kanako now. Seeing her was one thing I was looking forward to, because well I dislike Touko as a potential Soeur so I wanted to see what kind of competition she was (even though it feels like Touko is going to take the place no matter what... :( ). After seeing the show I don't dislike her, but well she was just a little creepy (in a good way I guess?). I would still like to see more of her to get to know her character better, and I also want to add that I was really impressed by Ami Koshimizu's job voicing her (she has alot of range!).
I was less impressed with the second half of the episode in particular the incredibly cheesy panda hug sequence. Of course I realize they were just trying to show how deep Yumi and Sachiko's bond was but well I found it to be very overblown.
Still can't wait to see the next episode. Hopefully Kanako will get fleshed out to be more than a stalker.

I agree, the panda scene was way over the top cheesy.
I found Kanako to be quite interesting and I really want to know why does she hate men so much.
I liked that we saw a bit more of Tsutako, she is one of my favourites and handled the situation with the too many sandwiches superbly. Touko showed a nicer side of her personality which was good to see.
Hurrah for Lililicious and Otenba for all their hard work!
The whole creepy Kanako thing - no wonder Touko said there was a bad atmosphere at the Rose Mansion.
I quite liked the panda thing, I'd successfully guessed who was originally in the costume, but at the end Sachiko had been in a high place surrounded by men, so was panicky enough to climb down a ladder.
And I love the Naisho. The bit with 'Alice' trying on the uniform was a worthy successor to the alternative title sequence in Naisho 2 where 'Alice' mentions skirts and is outraged to discover he won't be wearing one.
God, I love this series.
Yumi fan base are mostly in 1st year and course she has other. The first year truly look up to her which is reason Kanako have this grant idea what Yumi should be. She also as very approachable and friendly which make popular with other years. This was kind cover in the first book but was not give air time in the anime. The play was actually a lot smaller but when Yumi got involved lot group start to help in make the play better. Group like sewing and invention club came to help with out been ask by the Yamayurikai. The only group the Yamayurikai ask for help was the dance club.
Don't hate Kanako just yet she doe get better cuter in the next OVA. I know when I first learn about how Kanako was following Yumi was be weird as well but as I learn more about her I start to like more.
BTW Yumi also has event more fans that other member of Yamayurikai. Suguru Kashiwagi spoke very highly of cuter version of Yuki which develop in major fan base in Hanadera. I am not sure if this will be air on the OVA but lot Hanadera want ticket with Yumi name stamp on it for the Lilian Sport festival.

Goddamnit, I should just copy-paste Matrim's comments, since he said pretty much everything I wanted to say.
To put it lightly, that was certainly an elaborate way to make a point. Funnily enough, the panda thing was certainly bizarre, but I wouldn't say ridiculous. I mean, sure, the plot followed a really twisted path to get to that point, but other than Sachiko being able to tell it was Yumi in the suit (which was vital since it was the main point the sequence was trying to make), nothing was left so unexplained that it stretched suspension of disbelief beyond the tolerable. But, it is, at the end of the day, just another example of Sachiko's strengthening love for Yumi. I think we're well and truly beyond the stage now that we all recognize that they have a strong, mutual love for each other in their relationship. Let's see some more focus on the shaky, uncertain relationships.
Like Yumi and Kanako's. As someone said before, I also hated the fact that they skimped on Kanako's introduction, and she was just in Yumi's life at the beginning of the ep like she'd always been there. That's poor storytelling, IMO... let's see a proper character introduction. And this is coming from someone that hasn't read the novels. But, I want to sing the praises of Tsutako, who I think is unfortunately underappreciated and doesn't get the screen time she arguably deserves. She was great in this ep. Ditto Sei, but she's always awesome, so that goes without saying. Loved that character interaction with her and Kashiwagi.
Speaking of awesome character interactions, I highly approved of Yumi's playful teasing of Touko. Certainly that's a relationship that needs more exploration. But, that scene did go a long way to convincing me that Touko should be Yumi's petite souer.
Good ep, but I think we've seen enough Yumi x Sachiko. Looking forward to more Yumi x <insert petite souer here>.
I also hated the fact that they skimped on Kanako's introduction, and she was just in Yumi's life at the beginning of the ep like she'd always been there. That's poor storytelling, IMO... let's see a proper character introduction. True enough, that bothered me too, especially since we start the ep like that. But after, Yumi says she can't recall how she and Kanako first met and how she got to have her help at the mansion...
So that abrupt appearance of Kanako was maybe to emphasize this idea of "she's always been there not too far, as any Lilian student, we just didn't take notice before".... isn't it kind of fitted for the stalker she is? ^^;
Although I didn't like Touko in the previous season, and I still can't say I like her, I do enjoy her interactions with Yumi, seeing this witted chareacter blushing from Yumi's cute teasing is... also very cute ^.^
So that abrupt appearance of Kanako was maybe to emphasize this idea of "she's always been there not too far, as any Lilian student, we just didn't take notice before".... isn't it kind of fitted for the stalker she is? ^^;
What's funny about this statement is that Kanako appears in the second OAV episode twice. The first time is VERY easy to overlook her, but the second time is pretty obvious.
If Excel Saga taught us anything, it's that everybody loves a panda (yeah, the panda scene for some reason reminded me of when Excel dressed up that robot with the bomb as a panda).

To be fair, that's exactly how the novel begins. It starts right as the anime did, and is meant, in my opinion, to be jarring and unsettling.

Even if it was in the novels and done for a reason, I still have trouble buying it. I mean, so far this series has been fairly detailed as far as a chronicle of Yumi's life is concerned, and I'd consider a new student coming to the Rose Mansion is a major event. I mean, we were shown how Touko first started helping out at the Rose Mansion. One does not just ease themselves into a place where only a small group of certain people go without people noticing her or conveniently forgetting how she started going there in the first place. Even if they said something as simple as "she volunteered to help out" would have been acceptable. It feels like we've missed something major in Yumi's life, which is pretty much a first in this series, from memory.
It is only a minor criticism at the end of the day, though.
I don't believe it had anything to do with Yumi. From the translation I read, those clubs volunteered before Yumi came into the picture - they were just glad she was the one to open the door instead of one of the rosae.
I been while since I last read but double check myself. It was that fact it was play been done by the Yamayurikai that pull the extra interest from other club.
You are right that they were just happy that Yumi had answer the door.
Sorry for confusion on my part. I got my self all confuse there and mix up. :(
That was a good dose of Maria-sama! Beautiful.. wish it doesn't end.
Seen OVA 3!
-> Kanako is really tall. Perhaps taller than Sachiko by a little? Anyway, the first half of the episode is really good and so is that festival thing. It's quite amusing to see Sachiko trying to act all tough in front of others especially with Yumi is around. As Rei said, Yumi became good at manipulating Sachiko :)

Hm... when I first read the part about Kanako it didn't strike me as odd (probably was too excited to get my hands on it at the time:heh:). I never noticed how it was odd until I read the posts here. Guess I'm not much of an observant type.
Anyway, images for OVA 4 are updated. You can take a look at them from the anime website (http://www.gokigenyou.com/special.htm#ova04). Yumi seems much more senpai like. Good^,^
Thx for the heads up on the update page. Yoshino has her game face on. :)
I can't believe there is only one more OVA left after this.
Do you think they'll make more OVAs?
Do you think they'll make more OVAs?
I only saw one sell chart for one the OVA and it was doing very well. If I use this a barometer of public interest than logical step is to continue to produce more. There is still plenty material that can be use. The light novel I think is up to 27 or 28 in volume. The OVA will only cover up to 17th book. There is also growing inernationl interest in the series as increase. The only reason not to continue would be that performance was below their expectation. We will just have to wait and see if they continue doing it.
Shimako wears some funny attire in one of the pics on the official site, what's with the huge hat? :) I am looking forward to seeing that.

I think the ending is a bit rush. If I didn't read the novel I might think 'Why is Yumi wearing that panda costume? Where she got it? Kashiwagi?? etc..etc??  '. It also doesn't feel like Yumi been missing for long time. The story about Hanadera Festival is too short. Maybe they suppose make this story in 2 different OVAs; one tells about Kanako and the other one about Hanadera Festival :D :heh:.
Anyway, this OVA is the best among the three. ;)

I don't know. I never read the novel for this story and even when I was watching the RAW I understood that much. ;)

I think you are right. This may be the reason the second half of the episode fell just a little flat for me. It really didn't seem like she was missing long enough to justify the overly emotional reunion.

It is good, especially the Kanako half of the story. I think I still like the first OVA episode the best, though. :D

Maybe they should have added a shot of Sachiko going "Onee-sama senses... tingling!"
(I am, of course, kidding.)
hm... I like the 3rd OVA it was very cute when Sachiko ran to the panda and she even climbed down from the stairs :D I was really shocked :)
What's funny about this statement is that Kanako appears in the second OAV episode twice. The first time is VERY easy to overlook her, but the second time is pretty obvious.
Yep, exactly ! for us who saw her face at the official website opr the persons reading the novels, we obvioulsy noticed her before the 3rd ova, but for those who didn't know her, if they watch the previous ova again now, thy will go : "oh but she was already there!" ^^ The animators made a good job on that ^^

Timeline according to the novel.
2:00 The Hanadera battle starts.
2:30+ Yumi leaves Sachiko
2:55 Sachiko orders Yuki to search for Yumi.
3:00 Yuki asks Alice about Yumi.
3:30 The Hanadera battle is over. Soon after Sachiko reunites with Yumi.
So, according to Sachiko, Yumi went missing for about one hour. Not too short, but not that long either. But yeah, the anime doesn't make it seem all that long though.

According to your timeline, that's less than 25 minutes. The anime didn't make it look shorter than that. I thought it was more, honestly. After all, it's ridiculously short to panic.
Though it would be out of character for Yumi to let herself be sidetracked while running an errand for Sachiko, I suppose.
She has been missing for 40 minutes, according to Erica Friedman's novel translation.

Keep in mind the situation Sachiko's in. Men, men, men (or rather boys?) everywhere. ;)

Yeah, but she knows she's irrational about it and that Yumi doesn't have a problem with being surrounded by men.

You're missing the point of the scene: Sachiko needed Yumi. It's not that she wanted to rescue Yumi (although that's the implied/surface story she told Yuuki), but that Yumi was her rock, her stability, what gave her the abilty to survive while surrounded by men, men, men (and two very tall twins on a very small platform).
PS: Also, I love the scene where Yuuki and some Hanadera guy both drop to one knee and bow to Queen Sachiko as she commands Yuuki to go find Yumi. In fact, I think I'll go watch that again right now:

Eh. It's implied she can put up with Yuki since he's a slightly taller, less cute version of Yumi. If she was that afraid for herself, she wouldn't have sent him away.
still I think it was nice that she send Yuki to search for Yumi and I don't really think that it was only because Sa-chan needed Yumi I mean I still think it's more because Sa-chan was worried, because if seh wasn't she wouldn't have climbed down the stairs :)
I guess the anime fail to show that Yumi actually got lost at some point. Before she kind found her way to the area where the event was happing. Yuuki maybe the only none family male she is would happy talk to. I am sure the fact that is Yumi brother is huge factor. I don't think there is anything that Sachiko dislike about Yumi.

Hmmm...Lately, I've been wandering why is Sachiko choose Yumi as her petite souer in the first place. Am I missing something somewhere either in the novel or manga or anime that stated the answer why?

Er... The first three episodes of season 1? The first novel?

If you read the manga, light novel or saw the first 3 episode you would see that Sachiko does not know why she approach Yumi the faithful morning. Sachiko point out that morning are not Sachiko strongest point and she acted unlike her normal self. Why she choose Yumi we may never know since she did in semiconscious state.
I guess we can discuss a "What if?" scenario. What if Yumi was not the girl standing there that morning would she had found Yumi at some time during the school year?

My personal opinion is this. Their intial meeting in front of the statue was chance, or perhaps fate. Later in the Rose mansion Sachiko was just backed into a corner by the Yamayurikai and did indeed pick Yumi becuase she was the first girl she came across. It was only later, after she got to know her during the school play story arc that Sachiko actually came to want Yumi as her souer for her own sake.
Well two thing happen which I feel are catalyst to further their relation. The first is the picture taken by Tsutako. If she hadn't take the picture Yumi would had never approach the Yamayurikai. Yumi is to shy it took a pushy friend to get her to go. The second one which play on Sachiko competitive nature. Sei making the penalty game for Sachiko to win over Yumi. BTW Sachiko truly show how competitive she is in the next OVA and Yumi has to calm her down quite often. You can blame Tsutako and Sei for Yumi and Sachiko becoming soeur.

I really love this scene! Sachiko suddenly turns on the Ogasawara family power switch and men start falling to their knees before her. This is a woman adept and skilled in the uses of power and she'll use it to get whatever she wants whenever she wants it. At that moment she wanted Yumi more than anything else. As Yumi has said on more than one occasion her onee-sama can be scary!
hm I think that it was feith for them to be together :) Imean they have some special bond and that's it :)
glainfach I agree with you :D ha and yeah she' can be scary and I like that part about her :)

mmmmm... well, thats true, sachiko never really "knows" why she aproach yumi that day, I mean consciously. the "reasons" she gave were just her own speculations, or justifications XD I guess the best way to explain it is just looking it as a kinda love at first sight or a physical attraction, dont know. its like when you're walking on the street, and unexpectedly ,among all people, you're eyes get focused in one single peson without any reason aparently, maybe there'r nothing extraordinary about him/her and maybe it has nothing to do with a "sexual attraction" , but the fact is that you feel dragged to them. I can't xplain it very well, so if there's a psicology student here...... but I guess you got my point :P
in my opinion I think was destiny. I'm not trying to imagin or discuss any other scenario, 'cuz I'm someone who believes in ...well, destiny:rolleyes: you can call me a real romantic:cool:

yaay! I finally got to watch it! ... wow I took long enough I know. Was it just me or did Kashiwagi look more feminine in this one? Hmm, anyways my favourite part (apart from the ridiculously sweet, run to the panda ending) was the Sachiko vs Yuuki moment lol... poor guy, he didn't even have a chance...

Does Sachiko really hate men, or does she just have a fear of them?

I think in the first meeting with the Hanandera Student Council, Sachiko's reaction to being embrased by "Alice" looks much more like panic or even terror (which would indicate she has a pathological fear or men), rather than the annoyance or anger she would feel if she just hated them. ;)

It's difficult to say, as despite her anger towards him she is able to interact with her father at least calmly, and of course she has a bit of a soft spot for Yuuki. Also, despite her conflicted feelings towards him, she is usually very contained around Suguru. I noticed she reacted most strongly to the twins who were quite 'manly', so perhaps she has a problem with more stereotypically 'macho' men than ones a little more sensitive, gentle or less archetypally 'masculine'.

Well, she has been exposed to her father all her life, so she may just be used to him. and I think Yuuki benfits from the fact that he is Yumi's brother, thus her affection for Yumi bleeds over into at least tolerance of Yuuki.

Yes, but "Alice" is probably least masculine guy you can find (much less so than even Yuuki), and she obviously was having problems with him. :upset:
My feeling is that she has a general phobia about men, that in certain cases is aleviated or at least lessened by familiarity (her Father) or other factors (Yuuki).

Alice hugged her. Androgynous or not, she's not used to penis bearers doing that.

Yeah, I think you're right. She did warm to Alice before he hugged her though, which made me think she didn't really have any gripes with him until he came into close physical contact with her (which was definitely going to scare her witless :().

Very late to the party, but I've just watched this episode and I was wondering, right after Yumi leaves the Detective Novel club in the Panda suit, we see that all of the club members have a red cheek. I didn't quite catch who slapped/punched them. Was it Yumi who slapped them as a punishment for kidnapping her or was it Kashiwagi himself punching some sense into his kouhais?

Kashiwagi. IIRC, Yumi commented on the directness of male justice.

I've read in a Fan translation of the novel (Okazu). That after Yumi left and many minutes before Yuki came, a very terrifying and very angry Kashiwagi ordered the the whole club members to stand in line and face him. Later when Yuki came he noticed all the guys with their left cheek sore.

The trip to Rome happened many months AFTER Shimako made Noriko her soeur. I could guess , maybe Shimako bought some new Rosary, or maybe she temporally borrowed back the Rosary, or maybe the Animators just messed up.
Now that i think about it, you're the first one to point it out.

lol
i've noticed it quite long ago but didnt bother to ask
but it's been bothering me since i'm a fan of seiXshimako
i hope she keeps the one tt sei gave her
As Noriko said (season 2), for her the rosary is just a trinket, while its something far more to Shimako, so Noriko letting Shimako have it for good luck during the trip would be perfectly in character.
