Since for some reason my comment got deleted, here's a 2chan link for their current Death Note discussion. The link will be deleted later, when bloggers get the chance to post the images themselves.

Raw is out, so link is removed.

Also, because I believe it is worth noting yet again:

They avoided everything possible to leak any spoilers out. :heh:

It just shows pictures of the buildings, and only one word uttered.

Thats true --- though i'm glad, very glad if you get what i mean.

Also, i'll post what monir said in the episode 23 thread:

My general request to everyone: Please no hinting. Anime-only fans are bound to find out in due time since Madhouse is pretty faithful to the source material. There is always this (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=38819) thread a manga readers can use to unload all the pent up spoilers very easily. Go there and sing like a canary.

I liked the way how they showed Light getting his memories back. Kind of overdone it with the scream. It's obvious L noticed the change in Light while he was checking the list of names in the Death Note. I think they added the part where L doesn't notice the Death Note being taken away from him as a queue for the sudden heightened suspicion. It's portrayed better than the Manga at this part.

Brilliantly executed scene with the ticking sound and everyone panicking including L. You can really feel the burst of power that Light has regained. Next target - Ryuuzaki.

Funny how Ryuk went transparent because he was blushing! Also sad to see Misa being used so much by Light and getting her lifespan halved again to get the Death God Eyes back.ZOMG.... they didn't show ANY important pictures in the preview.

Yeah, but after watching what happens in this episode you can kind of guess what happens next. Especially when, as you've mentioned...
L says "Farewell" in the preview.Dang, why couldn't they create the Death Note: Kira Game with alternative paths. Would have been great to see the three as a team.

Because i find the whole of Yotsuba arc that damn good. I'm not like a lot of people who can't stand a bit of change that i believe is needed at some point in the story. And its good chance --- Yotsuba are GAR! :3

If you truly enjoyed the Yotsuba arc as much as what came before it, fair enough. I wasn't sure if you just had some sort of love for the number 10. :eyebrow:

I do like Higuchi's character, I couldn't imagine there being a better 3rd Kira. His character is just about the only enjoyment I got out of the whole arc.

Awesome episode, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Poor Misa though. Imagine she'd live up to 80 normally (a quite high age for a woman), she'd only live to be 20 now. If she'd die naturally at like 60 she would have killed herself by taking the eye deal for a 2nd time :|

No, no...
The eye of the shinigami doesn't half your entire life span.
It halves the "rest of your life span".

So if her original live expectancy was 80 years old, and she's 20 right now,
the first deal will be like this. (80-20)/2 = 30. So her rest of her life is reduced to 30 years, meaning she will live to age 50. (current age + rest of the life)

And that's halved again, it would be (50-20)/2 = 15 years.
Meaning, the rest of her life is reduced to 15 years, and she will live to be 35 years old.

WOW, Light is just WOW! He doesn't stop impressing me. The anime is awesome again, but dang I feel so sorry for Misa (you can't stop <3333 her character even more and hating Light some at the same time) and Rem seems pretty made. From the preview of the next episode, I'm guesing someone important is about to bite the dust, but I'm sure he has some plan in the works after he's gone. I wonder what Rem is going to do, she's pretty ang upset I bet.

LOL, how can they all work so calming and hang around a death god and not think this is all a little out of their league?

I haven't read the manga or watched the live action, so I'm not sure how it's going to end, but as I have a feeling that everyone is just going to die......

Nothing to say, this episode was so good it was criminal (cit.) :p

It's a redemption for the loooong Yotsuba arc which I personally found kinda boring, (except from the point when Rem popped out and on). This episode 24 abundantly makes up, though.

Then what to say, to see the whole plan of Light unveiled piece by piece, I can't believe he conceived something of such a complexity. Or better, I can believe, knowing him from the first arc, but still I'm amazed. "Genious" starts to be strict of an adjective for him. Particularly the part of having the Shinigami adding fake convenient rules was unbelievable. :twitch:
L seems to be the great defeated of the episode, but when he gets hold of the Death Note the first thing his mind produces is: "there's another Note around". I'm looking forward for his fate next week.

Nice to have Ryuk back :) , he'll always a good source of laughters.. but was that an apple he brought from the Shinigami's world, or rather a pepper :D

No, no...

That point was clear, however, I still have the doubt about whether Jealous' lifespan was added to her total or not, since it would make difference.
Anyway, now it makes two times she halves her remaining lifespan's lenght. Whatever the count, I suspect it's starting to become kinda short at this point. I feel sorry for her :(

A 10 for the episode, of course. It was one of the few times which, if there was an 11, I'd picked it up.

Though Misa's lifespan is now inherited from the dead death god Jealous and who knows how much he had left before he died.

So disappointing. I feel like an idiot for believing the hype once more. Where should I start? Oh, we just learn that the memories about Death Note are returned to the owner JUST BEFORE Light gets his note back. How convenient! And Light's plan isn't even smart. It's based on assumptions too much. It's like saying, "this will happen, the end." Not to mention that everyone except Light became suddenly an idiot in this episode. It was so fake it hurt. But I guess it was better than every episode of the Yotsuba arc, but again it was so much of a let-down... I hope the next episode is better, though I know what happens.

LOL, how can they all work so calming and hang around a death god and not think this is all a little out of their league?
Good question.

I for one really liked the way anime handled the Yotsuba arc, the manga version of which was imo very uninteresting no thanks to some long boring talky-talky scenes, that anime has cut. Now I only hope Madhouse will keep going at this pace as for the 3rd arc as well, the one I never managed to finish in the manga.

Anyway, that was a splendid episode. I expected nothing less from the anime studio.

That point was clear, however, I still have the doubt about whether Jealous' lifespan was added to her total or not, since it would make difference.

I really doubt it, not only it could give a Human an unnatural life span, but also if the Human holder of the Death Note doesn’t gain Longer life spam by using the Death Note, I don’t see why It should it be different in the Jelous case.

Well, Another great Chapter, this one (and the next one for that matter) were Parts of the Manga I really wanted to see Animated. Light Plan, was just..... lets Say, his Calculation on how thing should happen was something out of this world, really, with Such Genius mind he doesn’t need the Death Note to be Kira.

When you're a professional, you work with what you're given.

For me, the best part of the episode is L's talk with Rem --- true that a lot was cut from the manga, though it makes sense so they could fit everything into this one episode.

It was quoted in the show that it was added to her life. The logic and reasoning behind that is very simple. Her life span was near 0 when the guy was killed. Jealous knew that she was going to die by her remaining lifespan. However, because he wrote the name in the book, she didn't die and therefore her lifespan had to have increased by some portion of Jealous's. The rules for the shinigami and the rules for the humans using it are different. This is why shinigami gain life from killing people and humans don't. This doesn't stop the Death Note from adding to a human's life if used improperly by a shinigami.

Amazing episode!

However, I kind of liked the Light working with L thing. Light is just a bit "too" evil. With Misa you can understand, her parents were killed in front of her, she was nearly killed by a mugger too. That'd fuck anyone up with that amount of power coming after it.

But with Light, we do get a gradiation from decent to not so decent, but it never feels fully explained to me, somehow. I would like to see Light "Break free" of the Death Note in some way because it's obvious the power is completely controlling him. But then the series would cease to be interesting of course(and maybe not follow the manga, I haven't read it so don't know how it ends).

I miss early Death Note a lot though. I can't see them recreating the same "Battle of Wits" they had before.

Any ways this episodes was so cool. The switching of the books was a really smart decision ( Although i am still a bit confused). I bet Light knew Misa would do that eye deal again.

Hey, I just remembered - how much life does she have, anyway? We don't know how much life that Shinigami has, but we can presume they're very old and "stock up" on life. She could well still have 100 years left to live, for all we know. Unlikely, but I doubt very much that she'll die at a young age even with her time left to live quartered. Remember, her time left to live wasn't human.

Light is obviously just waiting for her to die at an early age instead of killing her herself. But that's a slight flaw in his plan.

hmmm, early on in the series, its explained, either by ryuk or rem, that the death god's usually only kill enough to keep from dying... and if u killed more than u needed, u would get ridiculed or something, for trying too hard....

so one would assume, that Jelous didn't have a HUGE life span left... but then again, u never know.... oh and Anime5. scroll back and read aohige's post... it explains the whole life span issue quite well....

as for the episode... pure genius IMO.... i loved it! 10 all the way... would have given it a 11 if i could.... :D

i haven't read the manga... and for those that did... SHUSH... but to be honest i don't think the preview at the end of the episode was a spoiler at all... i mean, that could mean anything... one could easily ASSUME that, what we all are thinking is what's gonna happen... but maybe thats just what they want us to think...

don't jump to conclusions... just watch the anime and enjoy, least thats what i think...

eithe way, very much looking forward to seeing what happens next...

Awesome episode.
Glad to see Light back as Kira.

Regarding the scene of Light, Rem and Ryuk, I took a while to finally understand why Light did that. At first, I was like, why is he doing that, seems so meaningless, but after much thinking, I final understand, I'm kind of slow.

Edit: On the topic of Misa's lifespan.
I remember when Light threatened to kill Misa. Rem looked at the two of them. Light's had a 6 digit number starting with 6, 7 or 8, while Misa was a 6 digit number starting with 1. If the numbers means lifespan left with big numbers meaning more time to live. I think maybe 100000 means 10 years? If I'm right, most likely Misa will only have about 5 years of life.

It's totally pointless to speculate.
The numbers are in SHINIGAMI YEARS, so it could mean anything.
Indeed, anyone could spend years trying to work it out, and in the end be right back at the beginning. I'm sure its that way for a reason.

So can you explain the scene with the Death Note, Light, Rem and Ryuk?
This is what I understood.

There are two Death Notes, I call them English and Shin.
English (the DN with English rules) was owned by Ryuk and Light, while Shin (the other DN which doesn't have the rules written by Ryuk) was owned by Rem and Misa.
1) Rem took away Shin and gave it to Light. (thus Light has 2 DN, English and Shin.)
2) Light gave up Shin to Rem. (now, Light only has English)
3) Rem gave Shin to Ryuk.
4) Ryuk gave Shin to Light. (now, Light has English and Shin)
5) Light gave up English to Ryuk, and then added those extra rules. (now, Light only has Shin)
6) Ryuk gave English to Rem. (Since English belonged to Rem now, he/she can give it to the 3rd Kira, and the 3rd Kira and other people can read the English rules)
7) So, Light at that moment only had one DN (the one without English rules), and his shinigami is Ryuk.

I love how the police cars in Japan (or at least in Death Note) are Nissan Skylines with spoilers... ahahaha!

Or, to be more specific, Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec IIs (BNR34). And the thing is, I think they DO exist in Japan; if I remember correctly, they're designed to chase down hashiriyas with high-powered cars down the Wangan Line.

:D

I'm in awe of this series, There's nothing right now that compares to it and that episode was so beyond phenomenal I'm struggling trying to find the words to describe it...The presentation of almost everything in this episode is brilliant...I could go point for point explaining everything but it's evident almost everyone agrees...Yagami is cocky and evil, yet is deserving of his victory from this episode..The flashbacks explaining what we didn't know was seemless and makes the detour of this arc all worth it...You can see that the people behind this show love it and aren't compromising the integrity of it in any way...I heard the slight complaining about this arc and I couldn't disagree more (It was excellent), at this point with the DEATHNOTE now in L's possession and Rem exposed, for this show to still have endless avenues for story and surprises fathoms me...

The highlight of this episode for me was when Yagami told Ryruk "Long time, no see.." and Ryruk responds in his always cordial snicker (Followed by a great illustration of him standing over Misa and Light)...The atmosphere just shows you how much Ryruk really loves this guy, and why the DEATHNOTE has probably had no-greater owner...

I have been rewatching the episodes and I think i spoted a critical flaw in Lights plan. It nothign he could realy control thou. I dunno if the flaw is a spoiler or not since I dont read the manga yet but it coudl get L back on Lights trail. So just to be safe i will use the spoiler and would be nice if a person reading the manga could tell me if i hitted paydirt or not.

The rule Light made Ruuk add ofve killign people with 13 days ofve each other is the flaw. Since when Light was inprison the killings had stoped for 15 days. And L will soon figure it out.

L figuring that out doesn't mean anything for anybody. And even if it did, it's impossible for L to know that nobody on earth was killed with the Death Note during those 15 days. The only important thing with the fake rules is that it proves Light/Misa couldn't be Kira because if they were, they'd be dead.

First let me say whoever did not give this episode a perfect 10 may your name be written in the death note for an very painful death LOL.

You know its been a long time since a character in an anime honestly scared the shit out of me. Light has accomplished that the way he said "I win" right after touching the death note and getting his memories back was scary as hell. Not to the mention that laugh yep the evil laugh is back and Ryuk seemed to take pleasure in the fact that Light was also back in action. The way he planned this from the beginning is a master piece I could not fathom how far Light would go to win but to do this maybe he should be ruler of the world.

Misa what can i say your cute in love and very simple minded. However the whole reduce you life by half thing confused me she already made the deal half your life plus half your life again equals your total life. So how the hell is she still alive? I guess well find out in due time.

All i can say about the next episode is L i love ya man and if the quotes from the preview are right. You will be missed buddy maybe you can tangle with Light again in your next life.

Not that I'm saying it is, but I do think this episode deserves a hell of a lot more credit than you seem willing to give out. Ah, whatever.

.

No no,not her total life. Let's say the first time she still had 60 years to live. By reducing it by half you get 30 years. Second time it was reduced by half again so that makes it 15 years to live. ^^

Virtually, I am done with the first arc of the anime, but I do hate and feeling miserable that the characters I have grown to care much will be departing soon.

Light, without memories of the DEATH NOTE, seemed so innocent and lacking of guilt. I am going to miss that face of Light's.

Please, tell me my ears were deceiving me when I heard L saying good-bye?
This is got to be a joke!:upset:

Light and L are the toasted bread and jelly. There is no DEATH NOTE without both of them. It's unfair.

While I will be missing the innocent Light, "God-complex" Light is very well welcomed again due to his stunning performance. His ego-mania bumped the chart, as he behaved more mischievous, machiavellan, and scheming than ever. I like when the tone of his voice went one octave-down with a malice accent.
It was pure gold!

I immediately realized Light's plan to retrieve the ownership of the first Note during the flashback.

1. He first relinquished ownership to it. Then handed it to Ryuk. Lastly, Ryuk handed it to Rem.

2. For the second notebook, he relinquised the ownership. Then handed it to Rem. Following, Rem handed it to Ryuk. Lastly, Ryuk handed it to Light.

The first notebook Rem gave it to Higuchi so as the killings will continue right after the time of hiatus Light stipulated at the moment of his imprisonment in order to draw inmediate suspicion away from him and to confirm to L that the power can be transferred to another people. Following this theory, Light had L to suspect the power possess people but leaves at will, deleting the memories of said person.

I think it is more accurate to explain that Light indeed acquired the ownership of the second note via Ryuk via Rem, since likely at that time Rem had already deleted Misas' memories after the latter relinquished ownership of that note.

The catch was that he would deliberately relinquish ownership of the second note during his first day of imprisonment to buy time and to bewilder L. L had suspected that if Light was caught, then the killings will automatically stop thus proving that Light is Kira.
However, there was this three day hiatus before the killings resumed (Higuchi using the note).

The fake rules were Light and Misa's alibi to disprove L, since he was certain that L could not be able to doubt or accuse the integrity of a Shinigami.

But it is not over yet. Light may have known from Ryuk that the users must consider the human factor of error. He may have known that it would be impossible for Misa to remember L's name on that day due that the users who made the deal see the names of hundreds of people everyday, and thus cannot processes the surmountable quantity of information in their minds.

Light is setting up the ideal conditions for the trap to which L will finally fall prey into his bind. Have Misa made the deal again with Ryuk, thus endagenring her lifespan with a quarter remaining, which will buzz the alarm for Rem.

It is obvious that Light intends to have Rem kill L at the expense of risking Misa's life in order to kill two birds with a single stone.

I have NEVER ever read the manga, but I am going to give the anime the benefit of the doubt on the manner how the staff handled the recovery of Lights' memories.

The manga might as well handled or at least shown Light with his memories recovered, but it is likely that the anime show exactly the moment how he got them back.
