I am interested in Elio's past (What research Facility was that...), and Carol's family/clan (What is it that they do...).

I dunno about Elio, but if Yuuno is anything to go by, I wouldn't put too much on Carol's background getting a lot of plot importance. I mean, what do we know about Scrya other than they excavate stuff? Considering Yuuno is apparently an orphan, a decently talented mage for his age(A-/A/A+ at 9), in a clan that digs...shady stuff, they sure didn't care too much about him or his character potential.

Anyway, judging from the previews, doesn't look that interesting. I'm more interested in the new characters than Nanoha-verse's female version of Kakei-Kazuki-Uryuu anyway. Then again, previews has always been semi-misleading, so I'm half-optimistic.

This episode wil easily get a 9.99999 out of 10 if the below or something remotely similar happens.

Completely off-topic (or not :p ), but Ep2 has been delayed for 30mins on TV Wakayama due to gubernatorial election program that has just kicked into the timeframe.
So it should be aired in approximately 26mins in future... without that f-in program, it should've been A part by now.

well, i guess hayate still did not learn from all her cheating when she was young, see when you cheat you are only really hurting herself, when nanoha and fate learned their magic they learned it all on their own, and so they memoried it all on there own so, so that even those there magic is techically graded at at just s+ for both nanoha and fate comparied to hayate's SS, they can do there magic almost instanstaly without notic and do all of their magic live and on the spot, without any major complactions at all, hayate still can not memorize even 1 spell after 10 years, she needed her book just to even attampt a spell in epsiode1, while fate allready had her yellow ring around her arm, of course nanoha is always the fastest, since she is the ace of aces, but after seeing hayate in the screencaps stiill, yes i repeat still need the book to do a simple spell was completely sad and very disappointed, that it make her level of magic and militaly rank a joke, i know all you hayate fans do not like this news, but i must have the truth be told that hayate even with reinforce 2 (who cheats herself with her own little book of her own)on her side, is still very weak and patheic in magic knowledge, to for all you young people learn from this tragic event and get yourself a proper education or you will end of like a loser too!!!!! it the truth but saided in a funny way!!! LOL!!!!

well both are nice sub, and they are merely the same, except few things (the most obvious term i noticed was Subaru's special Skill : yesy's translation was "Break Road", while nanoha's is "Link Road", which makes more sense)
i prefer nanoha's editing and font, but meh, that's only for aesthetic and grammar preferences, any of them is fine.

Ouch. Quick summary also included. Not really all that great of an episode, and I was really disappointed that the first main character male that they've had since season one... and the first thing he does is accidently grope Caro.

I still find the melodrama in this series a bit silly, and this was mostly a setup episode explaining a bit more background about Subaru and Ginga. Hopefully it's leading somewhere. I have faith that it is, but this definitely is not the bang that season 2 started with.

Well, I watched the LLQ raw...

The ep covers quite a bit more of what happened 4 years ago - for example, how Fate saved Subaru's sister, Ginga. Hayate helps with organisation a bit until the proper ones turn up (who happens to be Subaru and Ginga's father), then Hayate goes to strutt her stuff. Afterwards, Hayate decides she wants to create her own command to better handle such situations and asks Nanoha and Fate if they want to join. Nanoha laughs and says she'd be angry if Hayate didn't ask them to join such an interesting sounding division.

Fast forward to now, and Hayate and Fate are explaining to Subaru and Teana that Hayate's only just gotten to point of being able to create such a command and asks if they want to join. (As a side-note, Subaru doesn't even know what Lost Logia are. I think we need a "Naze Nani Nanoha" with Reinforce and ferret-mode Yuuno :heh: )

With regards to the exam, though the cleared they objectives, they had too many screw-ups, so didn't pass. However, because they're clearly too skilled for C-rank, they'll be allowed to re-take the exam in a few days.

Later, Subaru and Teana are talking about joining Riot 6, and both seem rather apprehensive - it's rather sudden. Teana seems particularly nervous - that it's too far above her. Subaru teases Teana quite a bit...

The other prospective members are arriving today, though some minor worries about their age / experiance (though not their talent). They're both from other worlds too. Signum arrives late (doesn't really fit her image) but a certain clutzy pink loli hasn't arrived yet either (exactly to image). Elio offers to go search for her, and uses a burst of magic speed to save her when she trips - though kinda screws it up. (Wow, his move was quite cool...)

Meanwhile, Shamal is giving support to Zafira and Vita who are taking out the drones seen in the StrikerS prequel manga. They comment that they're getting more numerous / hard to deal with. Hayate's new unit can't come soon enough.


Next week, Riot 6 officially formed it seems, and... beginning of battle training with Nanoha :D

*shrug* As far as a single episode goes, this one wasn't particularly compelling or interesting. I'm sure in the grand tapestry of events, it'll be fine and serve some vital purpose, but had I know it'd mostly just be various background information, I'm pretty sure I'd have not cared to watch it at super low res. We got to see another rescue. :D This time it was from Fate. If Nanoha's rescue of Subaru was "romantic", then Fate's rescue of Ginga is cool and suave. I am now wondering which sibling had the better deal? :D I am leaning more on Fate's rescue of Ginga, because I am a proponent of cool over romance. :p

Hayate's "elemental" attack came in useful in the airport fire. Nanoha's magic is "pure", and for the most part, destructive. :heh: Fate's magic is mostly electrical in nature, and thus, usually destructive as well (unless they suddenly need to power up an electrical station or something).

Hayate's frost attacks can be both destructive and life-saving, and thus, more versatile in nature. Maybe this is why she is ranked higher? Due to the more varied possibilities of her magic?

Speaking of which, they chose not to animate Hayate's transformation scene and opted for a cooler version in which Hayate does a running take-off. :D So... cool... *fanboys*

Lets be more serious now, I wonder what will the training forcus on, since Subaru and Teana can not fly, nor as it seems that they have many if any long range attacks, so range combat that Nanoha is so good at is out of question too, maybe its time to finally see Nanoha in close range combat :D.

Aye... it's hard enough as it is to think of enemies that can possibly pose a credible threat to the Triumphant Trio. By delaying R-Zwei's unison with Hayate, they have left themselves an opening to power Hayate up without resorting to overly blatant Deus ex Machina.

Speaking of which, I am still hoping for a complete unison with all the Wolkenritter Knights. I mean hey... the Knights are programs after all, so they CAN be assimilated into Hayate, who is already fused with the master program and is its' administrator.

About tactics, Fate has had help from Chrono for the past several years so she should be able to pull of some tricks like her onii-chan. And for Nanoha, she's a combat instructor so I guess it's a given that she has extensive knowledge of combat tactics.

Finally, speaking of ala Chrono, they should give our Commodore an intense solo battle of his own. His one of the highest ranking mages out there for God's sake! (with even a possibility of being higher-ranked than the Aces) The most action he got was fighting Precia's drones, unsuccessfully apprehending the Knights, sneak-binding the Lieze twins and partially freezing the Book's defense program.
While their at it, they should give Arf and Yuuno at least a bit of action before the series ends. More so for former-admiral Graham.<if he's still capable, or even alive>

With your idea, with it being a spinoffx2 that would star a still single Chrono on an alternate but nearly parallel Nanohaverse in a harem situation with the Aces, officers, civilians, Amy(of course), etc. Sounds like a great project to me! Hmmm... nitpicky and all, but after rewatching Nanoha a few times, I imagine that Snipe Shot is just a fancy name for Chrono controlling and redirecting Stinger Snipe (notice that when he says it, the previous Stinger Snipe he launched is the one that executed the move). After all, Stinger Snipe is supposed to be S in accuracy.

ehh it is pretty decent actually, at least my eyes are not bleeding while watching this compared to LLQ version earlier. It is about the same quality as ep1 LQ version , some parts in the middle a little bit lower though.

i find it amazing that elio's arm peice is a watch but as soon has he sees carol just about to fall forward on the escalator, the watch must be intelligent since it says sonic move outloud and it also displays that mesage on the watch itself, and elo can instantly move real fast even without even changing his clothes, in fact he move so fast, he more than counteract the gravity of carol's falling motion and lifted her back up past the beginning of the escalator, when i saw it it was simply amazing the techonlogy has really advanced in just 10 years, and then a few moments later we get to see carol familar dragon, he is a little rugged strong looking dragon with some fighting spirit, even has a cute horn-ring (but shaped like a human nose-ring)so he can make a visual impact for sure!!!! i can not wait to so see him do some great or nasty litle things, this guy might put that little reinfore in her true proper place since i think he can handle her!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!! i am glad they put this in the end of epsiode 2 since it balanced all the serious part in the beginning of the episode when they showed all the aces saving people and taking down the fire, with the aces, and then the next day, the same aces in the same bed after they used all their engey from the day before for the middle of the epsiode, so i can not wait until we see episode 3!!!!!!!!

Hrmm… when I was watching the (low low quality) episode on somebody else's monitor, from a distance, at a certain angle, Teana's hair looked pink to me. That's when I perceived similarities between Teana and Signum. Similar, but Teana seemed more immature. I guess that would've been better word to use.

They're both serious, both concentrate on their tasks, and both try to act rather selfless. I'm not very good at describing people, but that's what I think.

In any case, here's a few of my thoughts on Elio:
As I said, he moves oddly. I'm not sure if it's a natural or unnatural thing, but it did not look like he was trying to use Sonic Move. Furthermore, it did not look like he had good control over it. I think he was caught off-guard from its use, and then acted the best he could given the circumstances.

Next, I did not think he would use Sonic Move. Rather, I didn't think that would be a part of his style. Looking back to what we've seen of him prior to that, it makes more sense. It looks like he takes alot from Fate; in the opening it's shown that he uses a lightning attack. I believe his fighting style will be a combination of Fate's and Signum's, focusing mainly on the offensive aspects of the pair.

Next and End of Airport incident, Thanks for Kalzbalger, i heard that the Bed Scene is just after the Airport Incident, that make sense for understand What Hayate said about Team Group... The Trio have an unstoppable friendship relation. Result of Training? Tiana and Subaru are promoted and B-Rank. A new mission awaited them... They are really funny girl after all :), ah ha i almost dead when Tiana's getting nerves. Also the Meeting of Elio and Signum, Elio's good boy, i like him and i love him a lot after the incident with Carole :D (Kyaro for Kiety), Almost dead and laughting. Two of them will really make a good Team. Carole is a beginner, that's sound Good, Starda Watch.. The Device, i want it... And about the End, it's finished with what i need... The rest of the Group + Some Incidents... What will happen in the Next? New Promotion of Hayate i think... a new mission with Tiana and Subaru.

I'm not sure if you folks have already noticed, but after watching the OP with a proper avi, I realised some things.

1) In the part where the newbies are shown with their respective team leaders (and doing the uniform-changing thingy), their names and the names of their devices are found at the bottom part of the screen.

2) It appears that Subaru's Revolver Knuckles are not the only ones that does a spinning attack. If you look carefully at the part where Eriol lands and pierces the ground with Strada, you'll find that its "blade" area is also spinning aka like a drill.

Seems like Carol will be the dead weight in that squad =\ I mean, she's even wearing a Final Fantasy white mage cloak when we meet her, and at best she might have medic abilities, since no "instant healing" spells exist in the Nanoha universe it seems :)

And I wonder how Nanoha knew that Subaru was trying to copy her spell? I don't think she heard her shouting out the spell name. But Subaru's Divine Buster didn't look anything like Nanoha's...

Take Nanoha for example, back in the first two episodes of season one, I bet nobody would expect her to grow from that, to someone who nukes anything that doesn't go her way without (much) hesitation...

If there's anything I learned from MMOGs, it's never to underestimate the importance of a healer. Or a support class, for that matter. Buff the party to uber levels, debuff the enemy to uselessness, and it's a cakewalk. Besides, I'm not sure if they've actually mentioned what Caro's abilities are; maybe she's just as much a blaster as Nanoha.

Also, technically there is at least one near-instant healing mage in the Nanoha-verse: Shamal, in episode 12 of A's. If it's not actual healing, then it's probably some sort of MP-restorative ability.

Your guess is as good as mine. The producers have been fairly vague on how Hayate fights in her battles. The one scene (from manga) that involve her fighting a real opponent only show her casting ONE spell in what was an extremely one-sided match (Hayate and R-Zwei had running commentary while they beat up the enemy, to put it one way).

Until they show Hayate fighting against a "credible" opponent, there is little way we can gauge her combat prowess.

she just techinally strongest since she's the only one who continued taking the official tests so that she could still be even more offically promoted up to even higher military ranks, nanoha and fate are just happy where they are now and just are teaching the next generation how to make friends and become a stong person, but eveyone knows that the true strongest person is nanoha since she just a pure happy smart girl and is smart in everything with the exception of how to make a relationship with a man, hyate is stupid and slow, but she just basicaly has renifore since they are snobs and cheat all the time by looking up stuff in their magic books that they carry, i mean if i had my text book with me at all times when i took a test during school i would have have all a's too, but i got them all just using by brain which is why i still remember things all these years later, hayate is just a loser and a joke that got to where she is, becuase no one else want nothing to do with her, and who in the TSAB wants to hang around another brat with a brat of her own that is 30 cm, and after 10 years later still can not even do 1 spell on her own, no wonder nanoha and fate had to become teachers since TSAB education is just like it is here right now, a complete failure!!!!

like i sayed in my previous statement (i was refering to both military and magical levels) hayate only got to SS, since she was the only one to take the ss exam so she got it by defualt, since she always has renifore with her,(with renifore and it practactly impossible to fail) nanoha and fate stoped taking the harder tests themselves years ago, (it was meantion in a drama cd)since they teach the new people now, hyate only took the ss test since it was required to be taken if hayate wanted to move up the miliaty chain of command, which she and renifore , both wanted, and which they both did, but only hayate got that rank since she was one that was actually doing all the magic during the test, even those renfore has her own indivuial magic level!!!!!

if you are a super nanoha fan then everyone here should have know this allready by now, if not, you have some things to learn, since i knew this a few months ago!!!

Those are called Ceremonial spells, they're meant to be long because they pack more firepower. What Nanoha and Fate and the others use are lesser spells.

About the tome, I am hoping that they will show Hayate dual-casting spells. ;) This is because R-Zwei is capable of casting spells on her own, even when in unison with Hayate. I think it is a pretty cool concept.

So far... the only mage we have seen dual-casting is the original Reinforce, so it is not too far-fetched that Hayate might be able to do it too, with R-Zwei's help of course.

If this is so, then R-Zwei is not the descendant of Reinforce, but merely an original artificial AI-device, while the book is the real descendant of Reinforce. The staff is just a "normal" non-intelligent device.

About Fate and Nanoha passing the SS-Ranking Exams, I can also claim that Vita will easily pass them and my claim will be as equally valid. Until they actually take the exams, we won't know how they will fare in them.

Claiming they will pass the exam is one thing. Actually doing so is another.

Additionally, the complaint about Hayate being a cheater by using a storage device just seems silly. Chrono also uses storage devices and was ranked higher than Nanoha and Fate in A's. Does that also make him a cheater?

The TSAB is not running the Olympics here. They are a military organisation, and in the military, there is no such thing as honour in using lesser weaponry. If you are capable of using a ballistic missile, you damn well better use it when necessary instead of saying how it is "robbing" glory from the rifle-toting infantrymen.

A better question would be... why can't Fate and Nanoha use storage devices as well? Mind you, Hayate is using three devices simultaneously. Multitasking is no mean feat.

Mage-ranking is also not just about power, but skill in application of spells and general knowledge. Chrono's ranking is testament to this. What could Fate and Nanoha do about stopping the fire at the airport?

Nanoha? Starlight Breaker the entire place and let Fate sort them out? Hell no. Stardust Fall? No, just no. Until Nanoha starts to learn more types of magic, she will be limited in what she can do. Same goes for Fate.

Nanoha may be contended with her role as an Instructor, while Fate is with her role as Investigator; but contention also means stagnation of skills. Until they actively strive to aim higher, they will never exceed Hayate's Mage-ranking.

Nanoha said that they failed the test, because they put themselves into too much danger completing it, and lack of information gathering I think? (houkoku furyou) I assume it has to do with their crazy charge into the barriers at the end. She does say though, that there isn't any question as to their skill/power levels. "Those that can't keep their own partner safe, won't be able to protect anyone."

Next part I'm not entirely sure on as I don't want to spend the time on it, but the recommendations let them do something 3 days from now. I believe they are both given special permission to train at the main office, despite failing the exam is what it is. So starting next week they will have a whole new set of strict sempai's to meet she says. Then they get offered a spot in Mobile Group 6 of course.

So apparently Teana and Subaru are still Rank-C mages then, but their actual power level is around Rank-B.

I took it more as, the device knows their master well enough to predict what they want to do, or there is a mental link that lets them sense what action the master wants to take. At any rate, I'm sure the device only readies the spell, and it's still up to the master to mentally use it.

I'm half cringing/half laughing at Rein's appearrances though. I mean, does she _really_ fill out her role as a _Seargeant Major_? :heh: Grizzled, weatherbeaten veteran she is not. I mean, what Sergeant (Major) would be caught going "Wai! Wai! " o.o Afterall, a noncoms supposed to be the backbone of a troop, providing the breadth of experience and confidence that keeps the troops on their toes. Rein's still learning on the job, as it were.

I'll have to wait for a fansub, before I get any of the dialogue. I'm looking forward to Subaru and Teeana's, and Nanoha and Fate's discussions.

I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled something à la Chrono. He's a Belka-style mage and he has the best Enforcer of the TSAB as his sister and the commander of the warship Athra as a brother, so with that tutoring I would expect great things from him. Unless Chrono delivers him to the Lieze twins. I can already imagine it:

Just watched this episode, and I liked it more than episode 1, if only because of Hayate's (lack of) transformation scene, or because of Vita. I love how the grunts are gobsmacked by Hayate's magic. I love Vita's new uniform, and her non-emo professional demeanor while kicking ass. I look forward to her teaching the two newbies.

I got a strange vibe from the Nanoha / Fate exchange though. I wonder if anyone else feels like they will give Nanoha some incurable illness preventing her from releasing her full potential at critical moments, and make her a sort of TSAB Okita Souji.
It would even fit the pattern set by the AMF devices: StrikerS is set to reduce the old stars' magic effectiveness, so it's scarily believable that they would add another power check specially for Nanoha.
On the other hand, Nanoha could just have angry scars like her father, or even magical scars that hurt when exposed to magical radiation. (picturing a fist of the north star kenshiro/Grendizer Daisuke-Nanoha *ugh*) :D


About Hayate's mage rank, it's obvious you can be more powerful than your official rank shows, so if Hayate passed tests that Nanoha & Fate didn't even try, she could be ranked higher without being more likely to win in a fight.
However, from what I saw of her magic, she almost always adds a status affliction to the pure damage, and if RPG taught me one thing, it's that pure damage only goes so far, when a petrify/freeze (berserk/confuse/poison/sleep/stop?) can be an instant winner. Between Mistlestein and Starlight breaker, I would choose Mistlestein, even if I like Nanoha better (I wonder why I wasn't as annoyed by Hayate's weird way of speaking in A's).

While that's the basic method of searching Logia or some other dangerous material, they tend to be "slow" due to asking for permission from superior and such.
This is why Hayate wants to establish her troops, Riot Force 6, consists of small number of experts for more flexibility and specializes in tasks that requires quick responce and containment of the situation in short period of time.

Anyway, having seen the episode, and with almost every point nitpicked, I'll just cover a few points:

- Love how Subaru and Teana have more comedic moments with each passing episode (butt-pinching = win).

- More on Midchilda architecture and technology, with some cool vehicles including the helicopter, Hayate's FCC (Forward Command Center), and the Fate-mobile :D

- What was that shield that was covering those three girls that Fate talked to in the airport, right before she covered them with Defensor Plus (on another note, Bardiche's voice is mind-blowingly awesome as always :D )

- "Sonic Move" = Best voices from Bardiche and Strada

- Elio is much more pimp than I imagined, and Carol lives up to her cuteness ^^

- "Schwalbe Fliegen" *cries manly tears of hotblood* And the Wolkenritter show that they still have style even after 10 years, even Signum, who didn't even kick ass this episode.

All in all, can't wait for the next ep :D

If my primitive understanding of Japanese is correct, the civilians were telling Fate that a girl mage shielded them before going off somewhere. That girl mage is Ginga, who was searching for her sister, Subaru. Someone correct me if I am wrong here.

IMHO that act alone shows two things:

1) Genya and his wife brought their children up well. Even in a crisis, Ginga didn't forget to protect her fellow civilians even though she was probably just as frightened as they are, and that she still needed to find her cry-baby sister urgently.

2) Though Nanoha and friends have been doing barriers since the age of 9, we should remember that they are superhumans who are not bonded by normal laws :D . I don't know what's the standard there in Midchilda, but to me establishing a stand-alone barrier is pretty neat stuff for a normal 12-yo child (even if she is a mage).

@Skane: I'm very sure that Strada's point spins. Give some time and I'll find the exact timing where it shows that!

Good points on Ginga there, no wonder she got through the ranks VERY quickly...

And I also noticed that spinning (when he is falling, but just before he drives Strada into the ground), but it looked more like Elio spun the Strada incredibly fast, rather than Strada having any spinning parts. Either way, it still spun.

If you're talking about the scene where Erio smashes Strada into the road, I checked that scene frame by frame and Strada did not spin. :heh: You may have been confused by the wind spinning around Strada.

Prior to that scene, when Erio is descending from the sky, Strada loaded one cartridge, but still no spinning either.
