Where do you find the new episode online so early...?
Sorry if I might not be allowed to ask that... >.>
I haven't seen it yet; I was just following the comments in the 2chan thread.
Wow I would be sad if the first half of the episode was recap :(, is this confirmed?
Yes. (Again, according to the 2chan thread.)
Pretty impressive that they recapped 25 episodes in ~11 minutes, though.
Guess they wanted to have a mini-tribute for L. At least it is better than the Gundam series.. they usually devote an entire episode for recaps..

I expected them to do a recap episode, we did just lose the best character in DN. The preview hinted at it with stuff from the old episodes.
...I kinda wish I hadn't re-watched 2-17 over the last few days now.
/waits for Shiroth to give it a 10/10 :p

whoa.....
you guys scared me there for a minute....
i saw the ep26 thread up and i was like "wait a sec.....it's wednesday morning...isn't it aired tonight???..........WHAT DE?!?!"
1/2 the ep's a recap? good. that'll save me watching all the previous 25 for my own 'recapping'
^^
Wow, more added scenes that weren't in the manga --- i wasen't expecting this. Yet again i have to thank Madhouse, thank you so much.
and they ended the episode perfect...................<removed by a mod>
waits for Shiroth to give it a 10/10 :p
Once you see the new scenes, you'll know why i gave it a 10/10.

I agree with you Shiroth that the new scenes were pretty good and that they ended the episode well, but overall, I just can't give them a 10/10 for an episode that was almost 2/3 recap. 7/10 for me.

Ouch... I haven't read the manga so I was really hoping L wasn't really dead yet... Sounds like not sudden reversal, too bad. And I thought L vs Light would be the main theme for many episodes to come...

Yeah, i watched the recap part, though i didn't care for it --- now Light on rooftop with Death note theme playing and lightning. I'd give a 10 anyday. It shows you that he is at that status of God, and he believes nothing stands in his way. Madhouse have added a wonderful scene.
Alas, I don't know if I can give it a 10. It's mostly a recap and it introduces two characters that I happen to hate very much. But the new stuff is nice. :)
I've heard from various sources that this is where the story really starts to decline. I am hoping this is just a matter of preference but for how good it has been up to now I do believe it will be hard to maintain such a high standard. Oh well, we will see...
Ah damn, I didn't expect a recap. :/
The non-recap part was great but due to it's little screentime (~1/3 I'd say) unfortunately now I still don't have any idea just how good the series will be without L around.
Recap ep. Nothing special except the last few seconds.
What that supposed to the the 2 Towers near the end?

This anime really keeps me surprised in every episode... usually I have a good idea what will come.
To bad that there was a recap. And that L is thrown aside like that is also pretty sad. :(
I haven't read the manga so I don't have any data on the plot.
All along I've wondered if L has been planning for his eventual death and has made arrangements with someone even smarter than he is to take over. This other person could be completely anonymous and could have been watching things this whole time. In other words, since L has suspected Light all along, Light and Misa could have been under surveillance the whole time. Now that they know about the DN, they can check back on the Light surveillance and find out when he was using it.
Ep 26 is basically Ls diary or notes. This makes me think that someone else has been following the investigation and can really take over for L. After all, L knew that Light was Kira and so would anyone else he is working with.
L is really sharp and just as he didn’t trust anyone with his real name, he wouldn’t tell them about his fall back plans.
L flushed out the real Kira. Now its up to others to nail him.
It looks like there are at least 2 manga spoilers in this topic.
Itsn't that taboo here?
If I see a spoiler tag I'm assuming its for the anime. Since I've watched it I don't expect to be spoiled. I don't want to have to worry about a manga spoiler.
If you do put something in from the manga warn us.
This sucks. I don't want to hear about anything from the manga. :frustrated:

I'd say the names of two unintroduced characters constitutes a spoiler.
Anyway, I gave it a 6 primarily because nothing really happened. Decent episode given that it was only 10 minutes long though. Also, I noticed that the animation quality has declined a bit, I hope it was just for this episode.

^ I didn't say their full name, only their initials.
You should be happy you haven't had every huge plot twist spoiled for you. Don't be a bloody baby and cry over me saying the initials of new characters, both of whom we'll probably know the full names of next week anyway.

Nearly every manga reader you speak to will inform you how the quality drops after the death of L. I started to believe part 2 is going to be bad without even reading/watching any of it, so it kinda feels like DN has finished already.
I thought the author of DN had run out of ideas during the Yotsuba arc. I was given a nice surprise when the series returned to the high quality we'd seen before the Yotsuba arc, only for the best character in the series to be killed off not long after the return to quality. I really do think the author has used his/her last super twist with L, Rem and Watari getting killed off.
At least I only know one DN spoiler now L died and the time-skip has taken place - The ending. I'm hoping I'm wrong about the author and he/she will amaze me with another huge unexpected twist before the end.

Just using their initials gives away even more. I'm just saying this thread is supposed to be safe for anime viewers, there's no reason to toe the line even with trivial things like that.

Please delete any reference to "the guy with black hair" from your post. Simply informing us that the person in the opening with black hair will be involved in the plot is counted as a spoiler as he hasn't been introduced yet. Thank you.
^ That was a joke.
At least you've given me some hope to go against the huge amount of negative comments coming from manga readers, maybe DN won't become boring ...yet. :)

Recap ep. Nothing special except the last few seconds.
What that supposed to the the 2 Towers near the end?
Those two towers remind me of the World Trade Center :O
The time-skip was shown before young N and M in the anime. Madhouse messed that up a little if it was meant to be the other way around.
I noticed that time skip, I never seen the manga but I found myself wondering, alright 4 years later, and a timer goes off. I found myself wondering how reliable of a timer that is, haha. Its also notably a 00 Day timer limited to 99 days?
I gave the episode a 6 because of the recap and not much excitement.
What I did find interesting was this little quote by Ryuk,
Ryuk- "Hey are you really going to take L's place?"
Light- "yeah."
Ryuk- "Then... thier won't be anything interesting to see."
I can't help but think Ryuk just summed up the rest of this series for us. Although I should say I believe the rest of the show will be entertaining, but it seems obvious that we've already reached the peak of this show.
A remarkably good ep for a recap, don't you think?
Anyways, it might not be so interesting from here on but it will still be good in its own way. I gave this ep a 9. I rated the recap "value" in it and since it had some new action to it, the score just got higher...

They showed the timer straight away iirc in chapter 59. It would've needed some super batteries to stay on for 4 years straight. :p
The other thing that was shown in the manga was one of team alphabet being called by his/her real name by one of the other kids...not sure if they'll show that next episode. Madhouse decided change the order of events around quite a bit.
STFU and GTFO. It's granted that ANY person, shown in the intro of EVERY anime, will partake in the plot one way or the other.

Ok nobody has mentioned this yet but did you noticed that in that shot of New York the world trade center was still standing, i thought that seemed like an interesting allusion to the extent of Kira's power.
Hmm up till now i still dont really understand... Why did L delete all his data? All his data up till now would only be useful for people to continue finding who is kira, so it dosent make much sense...
And apparently, L has some friends / brothers / sisters huh. I get a feeling its related to the church scene last episode.

Well his archenemy is right there to search all this data. its better to delete it or not?
I Think the kids shown were his orphonage friends or so.

I liked this episode. The recap reminded me of Death Note's good times, and the second part was good because it was original material, I guess. But I don't expect anything from the next arc, most probably the plot will be crap and the direction will be perfect like what happened with the recent episodes. But now that the new anime have started, I don't care that much.
Not the greatest episode so far, but good none the less. So... 2012 is the new time frame for the series... this is gonna get interesting :)

That's why I said It's almost.
I only rated it 2/10 because of the recap and the terrible frustration at the end ;)
That's why I said It's almost.
You could have worded it better then. :3
Anyway, people have always seen recaps as a waste of time --- though sometimes i think they're needed. Maybe not here, though it works seeing as though its the half way point of the series.

10/10
Loved every second of it. This ep will also be convenient so i wont have to rewatch all the previous eps if i want to recap myself.
Yeah, i watched the recap part, though i didn't care for it --- now Light on rooftop with Death note theme playing and lightning. I'd give a 10 anyday. It shows you that he is at that status of God, and he believes nothing stands in his way. Madhouse have added a wonderful scene.
Yeah definitely, I gotta agree with you there. Just the power of the roof scene pretty much dramatically shows that he has become a God.
On the roof, he writes on conductors stand, and in one freeze shot, it even looks like he's being a conductor with the pen.
It's like Madhouse presented a scene where he now literally 'conducts' the world now to be what he wants
(ehehehe........my english analytical skills popping up a bit there...^^")
And the Death note theme playing in the background......it was like that theme was perfectly made just for this scene even when it's been used it in earlier eps. And with it synchronised with the visuals with it's climaxes, etcetc......Kudos to Madhouse
But the very last scene where "x character" is solving the L puzzle and just freezes there with the last 3 pieces of the puzzle when he realises what happened to L......awwwww!!!:( :(
LOVED THAT EP!!!

I just love it!! And even when the half is a recap, was done in a great way. We can see all the story from L's point of view. And the second half of the episode was fantastic, that bit of the future made me shiver xD.
A lot of people who already read the manga told me that the new stage isn't so good. And even when L's death broke my heart, I think that the story couldn't continue with always the same.
IMO the Yotsuba Group arc was pretty boring to me, and in episode 22 gets better.
i wonder what L said to light right before the date scene.
Am I the only one who is really frustrated about the current situation?
The most interesting character died and it looks like two other orphans who look similar to him will replace him...sorry but that sucks...
The Anime ends here for me.

Lucky me, I posted a slightly smaller version of that post on another forum.
The episode was ok. I wasn't too happy with how they didn't make a big deal about L and Watari dying, they could've at least shown a filler version of his funeral if nothing was shown in the manga like that, Madhouse have proved to be quite good at putting anime-only material into the mix.
XXX1 and XXX2 looked very young, I was expecting Light's new enemies to be older. I'm curious to know why XXX1, XXX2 and any other person from the alphabet didn't help L when he was alive.
Recap: I liked how the recap was shown from L's perspective. We only ever see DN from Light's perspective, so the recap was at least a little interesting to watch. I just wish I hadn't re-watched 2-17 a few days before.
I agree completley, im kind of disappointed in this episode there was nothing new it was just all flashbacks basically. I dont think they had to do that i mean its not like the death note fans who have watched it from 1 til now have forgotten what has happened or anything.
In contrast on what Omniscient commented in his blog, the first half for this episode was a recap documented from L's personal archive. The second half puts in motion Light's seemingly undefeated rise to power as the God of his dream world.
I personally liked for most part the first half since they include many of my favorites shots of L, but the Christian soundtrack definitely makes the persecutions and battle in DEATH NOTE pivotal and epic.
I was slightly turned off that Light starts his ascension. The problem I view here is that Light is too perfect on achieving what would be a virtually impossible feat without the DEATH NOTE, and I have reasons to suspect that his perfectionist attitude would inevitably lead him to his doom.
A hint is given to which it raises plausibility for my suspicions.
With L out of the way, Ryuk comments to Light that everything will turn back to the usual boredom since Light won the race of wits against L.
Light proves wrong Ryuk, since from now on he is ascending as the God of his dream world, but quite frankly, I have also other reasons to assume that Ryuk finds Light's prospect of his ideal without hardships to become monotone and without that spice of excitement.
I mean spending his lifetime in the Shinigami realm one cannot blame Ryuk that the place there is dried up, unsavory, and offers whatsoever no options for fun except Shinigami lazing around everywhere.
So, henceforth, Light's utopia were sides are splitted among those who support him and those who fear him means nothing for which Ryuk can found a vestige of entertainment to keep him hanging around Light for longer.
Thankfully, the last part prior to the episode's conclusion reinvigorates my hopes that a new chapter is about to be written down onto the storyline.
The two kids at Watari's foster home.
Could they be the meaning to the title of the episode?
If it is what I am thinking, then Light will be taken off-guard again for cheering victory but overlooking what lies beyond the horizon.

i think the way the episode ended, really gave me hope as to the rest of the series...
i haven't read the manga, but i loved the anime so far, and madhouse has done a superb so far, so i don't believe the rest of the series will be a let down... regardless of how manga readers seem to feel so...
10/10 only because i felt it really wrapped up the L part of the series nicely and had a nice an introduction to things to come...

The episode isn't all recap you know.
Aren't they between seasons? So is epi 26 still the old season or the new season? It should be the new season so some recap is on order to get people restarted. Not everyone is like us :-) Some people wait until series/seasons are finished because they can't stand the cliffhangers! (And I'm increasingly getting there myself.)

Well L is gone its time to move on. Light wasted no time in getting back to work in his own psychotic conductor sort of way. He even knocked off the 2 people L had hired to help with the Kira case. What made that even more depressing was hearing the little kid say papa. Even L is gone fate has a funny way of making sure things even out the way they are suppose to.
Lights over confidence will be his downfall, the fact that he truly thinks hes a god will make it even more sweeter when he goes down. The last part of the episode was really a shocker. THe timer and the computer and the 2 kids hearing that L was dead. Something is about to happen. I mentioned this before but the kind of person L was he would leave insurences that someone one else would pick up the cause just encase he did die. Remember he never said that he was 100% sure that Light was not Kira.
Had to give it a 7 its was a good ep but it was still a recap

Pretty weak, really - and not just because of the recap. Light just can't carry this series for me - he's too transparent and generally loathsome. L was the straw that stirred the drink, as they say. I'll give it some time, but if the next few eps are at this level I'll be hard pressed to stay interested until the finale, which I'd watch in any case in the hope that Light gets that grin wiped forcefully from his face...

Another solid ep 8/10 IMO eventhough it was a recap ep (a recap that was basically over at the first commercial break)...After L's death it was good to take a step back and see what got us here...I really feel like this series has even more great surprises because I have faith in the people who created it...Based on all I have witnessed up to this point I'd be lame if I started to doubt these guys now...When L first meet Light in school I got frustrated and thought "No! This is too early in the series for them to meet!" When Misa appeared I was like "No, I don't want a new character to interfer with the L vs. Light dynamic!!" When Light gave up the DeathNote in Yotsuba arc I was like "No! I don't want the story to reset!!" ...But each time not only did the story not suck it actually got better and more interesting and compelling each time...So even with L now dead I'm not ready to slay the story-tellers who have made every doubt I've had about this show dissapear with the brilliance of their storylines...
Continuing with this episode, the last few minutes where Light took control and yet again weaved his uncomparable power via the artistry of penmanship was awesome...Yes I'm beginning to hate him aswell, but within that hate is admiration for the gall of this guy truley believing he's doing God's will (with him being God that is)...Deathnote is the only anime ever where someone writting something in a notebook can have the feel and vision of something epic (and that's the feeling I got from the last scene)...Boy I know Light is gonna pay the devil at some point, because he's killing so many innocent people to cover his tracks and no matter how you look at it there is nothing devine in that...
I think it's funny that the writers even have a scene with Ryruk telling Light that everything is gonna be boring now (it's almost as if they are baiting the viewers with this)...Trying to make us think it's all over, but the suprises have yet to begin...I think they did that on purpose...

You see this is exactly what they want us to think...You honestly believe Ryruk is just gonna be continially bored for the remainder of the series...They used Ryruk as an extention of the audience when he said that...There's no other explanation for having a character in the story say he's bored now that L is dead...
recaps sucks. :(
the rest was great.

I think Light is doing what he thinks is right like all of us, he started a revolution by doing this and in a revolution is really hard to expect no innocent ppl get invole and got kill. Compare to many revolutions in the history it obviously surprisingly less innocent ppl die. Is not like Raito come out and say I won the battle against L and now ppl gotta obey me or die (That's what 2nd Kira was doing). Raito is more smart than that, he wants everyone slowly understand the ideas.

:( I'm going through withdrawal now! I need more. Was the last episode trying to say that L and Light were in an orphanage together? Are they trying to imply that they are brothers?;) And it seems as though L had Watari and some other elders to watch over him. I think that they are gonna bring Light down because L could have possibly tranferred all his files and info about the investigation to these elders.
When is the next episode gonna come out! I can't wait!

Where did you get such an impression? No, L and Light are not brothers. All those scenes showed as L flashbacks to when he was raised as an ophan when he was younger... usually these happen as a prelude to death

Well I believe in his own twisted way Light started off with something potentially rightous (however arrogant and skewed his thinking was) but once he started to engage L it turned into more of a high stakes game than a devine judgment, to the point he became intoxicated with winning over the standard of his jaded divinity...With L gone now he is sheepishly killing all loose ends whether those people are deserving or not is incosequential to his desire to wipe them out to simply cover his bases...If his motivations are the greater good that's one thing if it's a "pay for getting in my way" kill-a-thon that's something else...Either way I've lost the sense that Light walks that fine line in any way now...

I'm going through withdrawal now! I need more. Was the last episode trying to say that L and Light were in an orphanage together? Are they trying to imply that they are brothers?;)Huh? What?

While Light started off with a fine sense of justice, I believe the use of Death Note has ultimately corrupted him.
When Light lost his memories, he was against the idea of using misa to flush out kira. However, Light has no such prohibitions when he was back in possesion of the death note.
If L had used the Death Note, he too might have been corrupted by it...

Without any flaws, no people got killed everything goes perfect while the world changing to a better place do not seem realistic to me. Animes like Kenshin stopping a bullet by a sword, crashing an enormous organization without anyone get dying may be more satisfied somehow.

I don't think L would have been corrupted had he used it; part of the point of the Yotsuba Arc is to show that Light was a good guy, but that his ideals were already laying the groundwork for his corruption. Light, even before finding the Death Note, thought that the world needed to be "cleaned up" in a very dramatic way. So, when he gets a killing tool unprecedented in human experience, he starts aggressively pursuing what he believed might be right all along.
L meanwhile is all about upholding the law and punishing criminals within the confines of the justice system (he may stretch the rules a little bit when it comes to catching them, but he doesn't believe it's his place to judge them, hence why he's not all that interested in the conversations about what will be done with Kira after he's caught). And that's why despite the ruthlessness of some of his moves (sacrificing Lind L. Tailor, for instance), the Death Note would not corrupt him. He's not after power, unlike Light/Kira.

You are 15 and devoid of the adult mind to truley get this series if you continue to call the plot crap...And you're the one with the adult mind? I'm sorry for you. Because...of course, this anime is clearly aimed at adults... :heh: Oh, God, this is so ridiculous.

Did Light just kill of every news reporter to appear in Death Note with his killing spree? If he did, that just makes no sense at all. >.> Especially since that didn't happen in the manga...and they don't exactly prove any theat to him...that, and how was he able to find every single's one name...and Aiber and Wedy's too.

Hm, I'm about to watch twenty seven but my thoughts so far:
I'm not exactly in favor of the time skip, it took me as a shock and I was thoroughly disappointed.
My hunch is that those two children at the end are detectives similar to L, I take this from the setting they seem to be present in, the fact that they were informed of the death of L and the complexity of the puzzle that one of them was completing.
