Lucky Star - Requests for new threads

Since the Lucky Star forum is limited (only Mods and Admin can create new threads), this thread serves as a way to request a new thread to be created.

Please post here if you wish to request a new Lucky Star thread. Please bear in mind that we will only accept reasonable requests, we wish to maintain the focus within the forum and cut down on the noise (so no pointless threads cluttering up the place).

Don't forget that you may still post in existing threads as usual, the only restriction is that you may not create new threads within this particular forum.

Due to the Hare Hare Yukai madness, I'm expecting the same from Sailor Fuku! Motte Ike. In the general discussion thread new videos are starting to get posted, so I'd suggest, as a prevention, a thread dedicated to Sailor Fuku parodies :D

(If I remember correctly, there was a Hare Hare Yukai parodies thread in the SHnY subforum).

EDIT: For correction, the thread in the SHnY subforum was about music videos. So it'd make sense to have something like this in the Lucky Star subforum, this way, it'll cover more possibilities (other than OP parodies).

When Animaniacs! was on the air, I belonged to alt.tv.animaniacs where a group of us generated the Cultural Guide To Animaniacs (with the show's myriad cross-references. Some of the group even visited the show's staff and their episode "Please please pleese Get A Life" was generated from some of the nonsense (the third one is intentional just so someone would tag it).

Hopefully, it would also reduce the number of "false positives" (culture-wide bits that people mistake for being from a particular show) and such... so it wouldn't just be a reference ... obviously some people might dispute entries :)

I certainly wish for a reference thread. Perhaps someone, preferably thread creator or whoever can edit the content of posts, can compile all the references and sort them in spoiler tag by episode. That way, we can enlighten ourselves with reference gags that we may have not spotted when watching.

As for new references, members can contribute by posting it in same thread before being added to main post by the person in charge.

Might I humbly request a separate image thread for all these Lucky (Insert Character or Series) pictures that are coming out. I think there are enough of them alone, that they can easily fill a good number of pages by the end of the shows run.

Maybe a Fanart Thread for paying tribute to the actual characters and then a Parody thread for pictures that are meant to pay tribute to the parodying nature of the series?

I'm hoping the "cut'n'paste" attack of the cross-series clone pics will die off after a few more days (week?). But if it doesn't, it might be a nice thought to separate parody pics into its own thread as Kaioshin suggests.

A problem I see with a second image thread is the confusion this could create among people around here.

At one point or another, several folks are bound to post pics in the wrong place, wich would kill the porpuse of the second thread all together.

Better to just ignore the pics you dont want see in the image thread IMHO. ;)

Besides... if you think searching for specific images is hard in the "LS Image Thread"... try sieving through the say... SHnY one, or the Rozen Maiden one.

The image thread for Lucky Star is small in comparison. It serves its purpose just fine.

I don't believe there is a need for another image thread, nor that there will be one anytime soon. The size of LS image thread isn't that big, and just because it is "hard" to find specific stuff isn't a good enough reason to create a new image thread for specific images. Take a look at Nanoha images thread for example - that thing is 9 times the size of LS image thread, and people manage just fine :)

Ah yes the images contain the major characters. There are only 2 missing the short black haired girl and the orange haired girl, I dunno their names since I've only read the 1st vol. manga scantalation. I'll edit this and put up their images here later.

I'm only up to Ep 2 so don't think I've noticed this. I'm not sure what the point of the thread would be? Make wild guesses what it might be, how it would play, I'm puzzled as to what the discussion would be about. Is such a topic worthy of discussion? Welcome other viewpoints on this.

Well, the episode 5 discussion alone has dozens of posts about what kind of MMORPG Konata plays, what character and class would she and the other characters play as, their habits in online gaming (like usage of slang and emoticons in ep. 5), etc. If nothing else, it's just something nerdy and fun for us to wallow in. I trust your own discretion as to whether or not it's a valid topic. Then again, the Kanon forum has a topic devoted to guessing what Akiko's jam was made of, and the Utawarerumono forum has a thread solely for speculating the gender of the archer twins...

That's fair enough. I'll have a look at the Ep 5 thread and see, I have no objection if it's along the examples you gave (Akiko's Jam and such like). As I mentioned, I haven't got to Ep 5 yet so if someone wishes to suggest an initial post to introduce such a thread, then please go ahead. It might encourage myself or another Mod to create the thread :)

That might be a good idea. In practice we usually do multiple choice polls for the Favourite Characters, it would make a change where we have a poll where you can only select your favourite (one) character. Since there are only four main characters it should work.

We can create a Favourite Characters Poll later as well (around the half way point of the series) which can therefore be a multiple choice poll.

I'd also like a references thread for Lucky Star because (among other reasons that have already been listed) sometimes it feels like episode threads are being dominated by references instead of the actual episode itself (especially when there are arguments about a particular reference), and it'd be nice IMO if these could be sorted into a different thread altogether.

Is it even possible to talk about an episode without bringing all the reference gimmick in the mix? I've seen episode 1-4 and I don't think I can put into words exactly what transpired in those episodes. A separate thread may be a good idea, but I'm not certain it will rid of reference-centric discussion/argument/"grief" to it's entirety from the episode discussion thread. Or perhaps I need to catch up to the latest episode to understand and to get a better feel for the concern raised to the need for a separate thread?

2) One person to keep trace of the references, willing to list them and to keep the list updated. The post would be located at the beginning at the thread as well, to be easily seen.
If there is nobody willing to do that fine, but I'd still like the idea of "references recollection" to be brought ahead in some way. ^^

Of course, the thread will also be used to discuss references, though it won't be necessary to remove them from the episode threads completely. :)

I think that this could possibly be the better end of "how to do it"... although it'd require some more commitment as well as time to do... at least Episode 06 was full of references, as well as Episode 05 (the MMORPG references went deep and long). And no, I'm not forgetting about the other ones :heh: .

I considered the possibility of the material x episode being long (though not so long ^^), and it came to my mind the idea of making a closed sticky for reference list and commentaries if that was the case.
The sample you provided is wonderful, actually much more than I could ever have thought. I assume it wouldn't be that easy to do the same with the other episodes, am I wrong ^^ ?

In a way that could be a good idea... Of course it would need moderation (as every other thread on this forum, though...) and as others have mentioned, there would be many posts in the end that would contain information about things that are references to the usual Japanese lifestyle (slice-of-life) more than to some anime / manga / game / whatever, that would require saying "No, I don't think of that as a reference towards X, but to thing Y in the usual Japanese life". Not that it's a problem from a poster's viewpoint, though...

As for writing the text, it took about an-hour-and-a-half to read Suzuki Shuuta's thoughts about it, write that text in English with constantly looking at Google / Japanese Wikipedia / the current episode thread on Animesuki and to quickly QC it (although you can still find typos in it :heh: ) plus verify that those things actually match.

I think that the main work (translation and editing the Shuuta's page's contents to be compatible with the knowledge level of a usual gaijin) could be accomplished pretty easily with two-three people. And of course there being an open thread, people can always try to put their own ideas through. Nothing impossible.

I could do it I suppose. All of it probably. I'm a fast typer with a great memory and a lot of time on his hands late at night. Of course since the plan is for a straight up list I won't do my usual opinion piece to go with the references.

Mind, I wouldn't be contrary (idea-wise), but I don't see the need for such a thread since the episode discussions were made basically of that, references aside. Plus the series is almost over and I see the overall discussion obviously diluting on the next few weeks, hence not needing new threads of sort (except the new characters' polls)

Personally I don't like Anime Tenchou ^^, but there are people who shows appreciation towards him, and he's also in the wiki official characters list.
As for Haruhi, no characters who had a cameo (such as Daisuke Ono, Gotouza etc.) :)

Pretty much all threads have those actually, not just the Haruhi one. It's commonplace for the sub-forums, but like Xris says there needs to be time for things to be brought into order and for people to finish watching the series in subbed format. I don't think you need to worry about requesting one in any of the sub-forums as I'm fairly sure it's automatic.;)

Obviously you do not know these kinds of things. It is a fun topic where one person asks a silly and nonsense question and the next poster will answer it in a silly and funny way, and then post another question for the next poster to answer and so forth. I'm sure you came across something like that in other forums.

Write an introductory post presenting all the reason why you think such a thread shall be created and what you'd exactly want to be discussed in it (with factual examples, you may also use the ones above). Then post it in this thread.

Compile it well enough and I'll move it as the first post of the new thread. ;)

Hey guys the new PS2 game of LS is out. Can we have a game section for this? I've ordered mine already from my friend going to Japan to get me a copy after seeing the Konata's Love Box. Seems like It's SEBASTIAN (Shiraishi) your controlling. Not sure yet...but it looks like a sim game from the screens, also I need help I can't read Japanese Kanji. When I get my copy I'll post how the game works till then. ;)

Yeah PS2 game is surprisingly solid, even though the storyline is a complete disconnect from the overall Lucky Star feel. Still, the characters mesh well with the story and there's lot of light exploration of character for each of the girls.

Not sure if there's going to be a lot of people playing it, but I'd vouch for a thread. There sure is a lot to talk about in it.

Topic: "Lucky Star: The Sappho Factor(?)"

Hi All!!

I was enjoying the catchy tune of "100% Nai Nai Nai" sung by Kagami (awesome! Get it!) and after glancing at the lyrics and -- well, I guess you really can't escape one of the most popular draws Lucky Star has and that's the shoujo-ai angle, regardless your feelings on the subject. So I guess we might as well explore it.

Of course there's the Minami-Yutaka thing, but personally I think that's really a red herring tease putting us on the same fantasy ride as Hyouri because I just don't see any real moves going on here. Konata and Kagami are different animals because you can see sprinkled around the series coy hints (in Konata's case sometimes not so coy) of some wild wishful feelings going on planted by Kyotoanimation's honchos. It's fun being teased like this, and for me Kagami is a schizoid case of wanting and denial. I mean the way Kagami's wailing and whining to God in "100% Nai Nai Nai" for having separate classes from Konata is both funny and a little heart-wrenching in a way. Kaggie's protesting way too much and deep for a simple brief separation of close friends. I mean this poor girl's seriously HURTIN' for clingy, and where there's smoke there's fire. And I think Konata's all too willing to blaze! :)

So why don't they "catch"?

Well, I guess outside it not being a "after prime-time" show, I'd like to think there's a kind of unspoken "chicken" game going on between these two. Kagami's a real puzzle because she's smart, pretty, outgoing, yet there's not even a casual boyfriend. Either she puts them off or isn't turned on (maybe that's the definition of a Lucky Star girl?). Kagami sees herself as a (somewhat snooty) upright example of proper feminine behavior and sensibilities, yet her mindless libido's being tickled by a lazy midget weirdo geek who she regards as below her level. That Kagami even bothers giving Konata the time of day much less spending quality time with her so is crazy and telling. Like what keeps her bouncing back to Konata who really abuses her so? How long would you stick with someone ALWAYS copying your homework and makes some pretty cruel cracks about you in public? Is she just a pig for punishment -- or is there more? We know Kagami cares a lot about Konata because she's always on her case and from that tender concert seat swap. Could Kagami actually envy Konata? Konata is super-athetletic, equivalently intelligent or maybe even more (capable of cramming weeks of work in one nite and still make good exam grades), and unabashedly aggressive. Konata lucks out in the manners department -- but that can be adjusted with a little "love". Now if Kagami is actually boy-shy, then Konata is a perfect substitute "boyfriend" for her to imagine hanging around with.

As for Konata (chuckle), Konata, in my opinion is amoral to indifference on this front; Soujuion's adult games and casual attitudes have early corrupted her mind to at the least find boys her age immature and boring. This might cause a bizzare side of effect that if it weren't for her early rapt interest in games she'd been hopping more beds than hop-scotching by middle school. Konata kinda reminds me of a cat toying with a mouse, and that mouse is Kagami which keeps popping out of its mouse hole to get whacked by the cat again and again, and I think the mouse senses the cat's 'interested' in playing more dangerous games and anxiously (and hypocritically) dodges it each time. I think what's notable is there're very few scenes where Konata and Kagami are truly alone in a situation where no one could walk in on them to fan up their simmering fires. I think Kagami would start feeling awkward pretty quick "trapped" with Konata so. A very dangerous scene could've been them being all alone in that summer bath house scene at the beach with Konata pushing her mock-coquette teases on a blushing flustered Kagami. It would be interesting who's left standing on a desert island! :)

While Kagami's eggshell pride's pretty much all that's keeping her from getting all gushy in front of Konata, I don't see any inhibitions on Konata's side at all in a yuri relationship; maybe she's just bidding her time or is too involved in games to crack the ice or is just to plain lazy to right now. But I think if Konata did a serious hit on Kagami (and she toys with that idea a lot), Kagami would tip over once all her sputtering denial got vented. I can also see Kagami, once over that hump, trying to refine Konata to her classy level -- she'd like that since it doesn't work with Tsukasa. I can't second-guess the writers, but I've a sneaky suspicion they planted this subtle insinuation.

Sadly tho', I think it'd be a rather brief shallow relationship since Kagami might well wish a deeper more serious relationship while Konata might likely take it as new kind of game/sport. Konata just doesn't come across to me as being emotionally developed or deep enough to appreciate the finer details of sharing one's innermost feelings (her dad's fault). I think at best it'd be a "yuri fling" which Kagami would quickly get over with passions and curiosity sated, and returning to see Konata the same old way.



Anyway that's my rambling take on the issue guys. I'm wearing my asbestos jumpsuit! Thanks for letting me push my iPhone's warranty!

Um, this site spends a lot of time discussing fansubbing, where it is, and how to do it -- which is a copyright violation according to most producers of entertainment. It is exceptionally unlikely that Kyoto Animation, their artists, or their writers would drop by and post under any conditions.

Besides, the writers and artists are probably terrible at English anyway. This really isn't a request for thread though... your question really belong over in the Q&A thread.

As far as translating manga bits... there is a scanlation project (also a copyright violation) for Lucky Star and I believe they've translated the first 20 chapters or so (check the manga thread). Rather than a "translation please" thread creation, I'd say just put requests for manga samples in the L*S Manga thread.

Okay, this might sound sneaky and blatantly self-serving, but one way to gin up some heat and banter around here is why not have a L*S fan-fiction stroke-and-flame section to remark, coo and tear apart L*S fanfics from Fanfiction.net and whatever strange sites these works might be hiding while everyone's waiting for (maybe over-hyped) OVAs with bated breath? I mean if Murder Mystery and Pocket Travelers has already "legitimized" fantasy and way-out plots in the L*S universe, then a lot of good fan-fiction along those lines are just as quasi-canon and should be as appreciated and recognized.

After all, many KA writers and artists cut their teeth doing fan-fics themselves! :)

I would like to request a Lucky Star Fanfiction Discussion thread.

There has been a steady stream of new stories that I believe that are worth discussion. Plus I think it would be a great way for several people to see new situations with the characters or get some general opinions of popular stories. This is one of those series that still strives and does not have an ending, so the popularity will continue to grow.

It's important that people keep non-canon issues or new suggestions in this thread so it doesn't get out of control or too off topic for other threads.

No thanks. I don't see there is much to gain to have a thread that is mostly to whinge and whine about the whingers and whiners of the series. If someone doesn't like LS then that's their choice, I don't really see the need to try and explain their choice or to try and change their mind (more so since they are unlikely to be posting here anyway).
