Loving all the pics in this image thread, even though that's not why I am posting here. I'm posting here since this is an ongoing thread and I really want to emphasize what jacksonman said. He said to dig deep to find the treasure which is yuri. Did anyone think that there was real yuri in this show? I took a closer look through the series, focusing heavily on Kagami and I was noticing things from her, a lot, that really emphasize what her character song 100% Nai Nai Nai is implying. A number of the things that I say from her in regards to Konata was quite heavily yuri implied, without having to read too much into it that I didn't noticed before. I was just wondering if anyone thought that there was any hints to real yuri in this series and really wanted more people to know what I saw.

Lucky Star has a large amount of yuri undertone. It is a shame none of the girls explored the possibility that were attracted to another girls. That could be interesting, no? I know this is a slice of life anime, but having some plot could make it better.

slice of life dont need to put plot as the top priority imo, as long as a recurring theme such as going thru school exist. ie lucky star, minami-ke, azumanga, ppd all had daily life as a common theme. i find slice of life are good for exploring various events and situations which dont necessarily have to be plot driven.

Like MezzoDragon said, there is a large amount of yuri undertones for this series. However, the point for my comment was that there was actually more yuri undertones in Konata/Kagami. A LOT of the better hints were NOT recognized though.

I was noticing things from her, a lot, that really emphasize what her character song 100% Nai Nai Nai is implying.

One of the funniest things about that song is behind Kagami's moaning you hear the chorus often cutting in crying out "Alright!!" as if telling her "Hey, don't sweat it girl! Just DO it!!!" LOL!

I have no idea why I'm doing this but I keep feeling like I didn't make my point clear with my last posts and I want more people to know about this. Sure Konata and Kagami are just friends, however, friendship feelings is NOT the case here. Hints to yuri in the Konata/Kagami relationship were made throughout the series. Kagami does like Konata in THAT sense. Konata is a question mark in this relationship. I'm just not sure from her point of view. Kagami gave a LOT of hints to being interested in Konata in THAT sense throughout the series. I was very impressed with Kyoto Animation. The hints were very cleverly displayed while still being clear in the yuri sense. Some of the yuri hints from Kagami to Konata were so BLATANTLY obvious, it's absolute amazing how the hints got badly ignored by the fans. You can't give off more of a BLATANTLY obvious hint then the train scene of episode 3. If you didn't realize what Kagami did in that scene, go back and watch it NOW. What Kagami did in reaction to Konata in this scene was so BLATANTLY yuri obvious, it's absolute amazing how Kagami was able to get away with what she did. YURI is the only reason for what she did in that scene. It was just too blatant. Did anybody realize that Kagami had quite a bit of verbally blatant yuri statements about Konata as well? The most blatant was by far the statement she made in episode 4. Just before the Lucky Channel segment, Konata said, "That's why I just don't get girls." Kagami responds by saying, "Last time I checked you were one as well." Kagami checked to see whether Konata was really a girl? That would mean that Kagami might have actually seen Konata's....................................... and I serious can't go that far. You need to re-watch this series and keep your eyes FIXATED on Kagami. When I did that, I was picking up so many yuri vibes from Kagami to Konata I was literally crying. You can serious call Kagami a Tsundere, she has a love interest in Konata. I picked up quite a bit of dere dere Kagami to Konata moments that a lot of the fans didn't noticed. My favorite moment was by far the moment of episode 15............................................ and you know what? I'm NOT referring to the Haruhi concert scene.XD All I'm going to say about this scene is that I LOVE THIS MOMENT TO DEATH.XD So, there is actually more yuri in this show then people think. Anyway, if you don't want to re-watch the series to pick up on the hints, well Kagami's character song 100% Nai Nai Nai says it all. You can read the translation and listen to the song if you want.

No, you're not imagining it, guy. Look, I'm no sage, but anime animators, writers and producers are by nature and necessity a rather off-the-wall unorthodox progressive species and cut their reps and imaginations by pushing the envelope and thinking outside the box, and you can believe when they do anime they're not trying to ape Snow White. They love messing with our heads -- and we crave it like a dog's belly-scratch. Like it's a given that sly and not so shy yuri's seeded all over LS; if you see smoke there's fire, so no one's doubting you. The debate's which are the more telling signs to the same dance, that's all. Ironically, what SEEMS like the most obvious pairing (Yutaka-Minami) at least to me is a red-herring seen through Hiyori's pervert eyes because neither girl even hints/teases an interest in another, wherein Konata's coy teases with Kagami are a lil' more than suspect, and "Nai Nai Nai" with Kaggie's anguished pine cinching it. I never expected yuri to be overt on a show seen by children too; now to really take off with what's subtly going on with Konata-Kagami requires a whole new adult-themed show -- maybe "Lucky Star: The College Years" -- IF KA becomes bold enough (unlikely unless they pass LS's rights to "The Simpsons" folks), or until desktop anime production makes and changes the whole scene (not really all that far away--yea!!), till then we just have to make do with _good_ text fanfiction to fill in the gaps and see the duo's unadmitted deeper relationship.

The point is... any yuri-festive relationship is never confirmed.. Whether you consider them friends or lovers is purely left to your feverish imaginations. I could take every "yuri" example and find perfectly non-yuri explanations for it. But those clues are there on purpose :) to make you think or wonder. Pure evil, eh?

I agree with Vexx. There is no Yuri in lucky star apart from Hiyori's over the top imaginations. It is just shoujo-ai at best.

Unless there are confessions or kisses or just internal monologue about themselves liking certain same sex individuals that way. I can't call it yuri. Its more of a close friendship relationship.

If close friends relationship are called yuri/yaoi. We would be seeing a lot of homo relationships in real life.

A good example of Almost girl-love but still not girl-love relationship is the manga "Girlfriends by morigana milk". Between chapters 1-7 (8 above is the start of leaning towards yuri it seems). Without your yuri goggles it is clearly just close friendship between two girls. Okay I'll stop i've gone off topic now @_@.

I agree with Vexx. There is no Yuri in lucky star apart from Hiyori's over the top imaginations. It is just shoujo-ai at best.

The point is... any yuri-festive relationship is never confirmed.. Whether you consider them friends or lovers is purely left to your feverish imaginations. I could take every "yuri" example and find perfectly non-yuri explanations for it. But those clues are there on purpose :) to make you think or wonder. Pure evil, eh?

Naw, I don't bite, especially for the anime. Yoshimitsu making that comment literal would wipe out the basis for friendship and family affection in the series such that they'd all just be a bunch of Vulcans. He could've easily been straight to the point and outright said there's no yuri overt or implied or hinted so he's playing coy here (like most artists, their feet rarely get caught in cement). I bet in more ways than little, he KNOWS that it's this subtle yuri tease that's driven most of the interest (and feeds his kitty) in an otherwise generally bland "slice of life" tale of awfully chatty (junior?) high school girls -- which itself parades a loli factor you just couldn't get away with over here. Hey, ever since they popped that sex-switched Ronald McDonald commercial over there the Japanese haven't been all that shy about spicing up even kiddie fare with the issue. So I'd love to see what Comic-Con in New York cooks up with LS about this! ;)

But I can sure do with a peek at the manga!! :)

Also, the author rarely has a say in the anime. The manga itself, at least over the 3 volumes I own and the 4th volume I have in scans, display absolutely no romantic elements. If anyone put it in the anime, it's not the author.

The only romance ever known in the series is Ayano, who was mentioned offhand as having a boyfriend, who has never appeared.

Also, please bring it to the discussion thread. I'm not going to talk to you about it in here.

Hi All!

First, I want to give my condolences to a man who has profoundly influenced anime in the U.S. and perhaps as a by-product, the world. Gary Gygax passed on to a higher plane yesterday and his spirit lives on in the game he co-invented, Dragons & Dungeons, the most successful seed mother of all RPGs. My dad recalls whole dorm rooms playing D&D in college, and the spirit of that game helped propel not only an entertainment genre but booted interest in sci-fi (helped inspire Star Wars) and adventure games and manga and anime in the U.S. and the West like few forces did before. So when we see Kona-chan crack her keyboard at MMORPGs, let's think a second of Gary for helping to make it all come to pass!

I seen this picture way back in this thread somewhere (I'm not finished reading it yet) and really liked how it was sketched, and decided to try out photoshop cs2 and color it. 9 hours later (after getting really addicted to how well it was working out) i came up with this:

For some reason I saw that pic at the same time that the tune "Supermassive Black Hole" (by Muse) was playing in the background. I immediately visualized them covering the tune with Kagami on lead vocal and the rest on backup vocals with Tsukasa on drums, Konata on lead guitar and Miyuki on bass. Sorry, *I* thought that idea sounded kind of hot :)

There ARE a couple of others (single images). When I get home I'll see if I can find them in my huge "stash of L*S imagery". I think he greened up Tsukasa just for color balance (or maybe its the effect of stage lighting).

Bad idea
All the cast of Lucky Star are girl ( exept Konata's dad ), so the genderbending should change little in the relationship betweem the main cast. And beside, a genderbend Konata would end up as a short male otaku, she will lose too mush of what make her special.

A "never passed" Kanata in the family would be a very difficult write unless you're willing to see a very different Konata and even her choice of friends. The way Konata is now raised by Kanata couldn't co-exist, kind of like an immovable object meeting an irresistible force. :)

What do you think Konata would be like? Probably more serious and less of an otaku, but she'd still be her father's daughter. Maybe it'd be confined to fighting games and RPG rather than ero-games, though...

I think her mother would have encouraged her to play sports, even if the sports in question are martial arts. Maybe especially so. So she'd still be friends with Tsukasa and Kagami...

If her mother was successful in making her care about grades, she'd probably be even better than Kagami.
