That, or, guided by his glam sight, he's treading his way toward the harem ending.
Re: Santa's heresy. I think she just meant that celebrating the winter solstice's been done since forever. Long before Christianty existed. Santa's probably just a recycled old winter god.

Sinter Klaas was dutch if i remember correctly, it was brought to america by settlers and over time became santa clause, and St Nick was a bishop of Myra who gave presents to poor kids. These are the 2 main ones that kind of mixed together to get to the modernday santa clause.
Like's been said however, the old fat guy with beard comes from coca cola. However they didnt come up with the robes, they were all ready there in the St Nik version, Red and White were the colour of the bishops robes.
Really impossible though to point to any one element and say it started there.
Moving on....
I liked the episode, funny and sweet. I think he probably knows whats going on with the girls, while he comes accross as being dense, i dont think he is. Especially where Honami is concerned atleast.
As for Honami and Addie's frindship/rivalry, that seems to have been going on for a long time. I get the impression they genuinely like each other, but they're so similar in the way they think and act they rub each other wrong (lol that sounds so nasty hehe)
I also got the impression that addie wanted Honami to go to Geotia. I just finished watching all the episodes in the correct order, not the air order, and it makes alot more sense now.
Future episode titles were announced.
14 星のキオク (Memories of star) Nekoyashiki vs his old colleague.
15 人魚の伝説 (Legend of the marmaid) sea episode and Kuroha's new ability(already used in the Christmas episode).
16 赤い槍 (A red spear) Itsuki's training of martial arts.
17 魔神の反乱 (The rebellion of the demon) summoning one of the most strongest demon and Addie's kiss!!
18-24 will probably show Oni episode (Mikan's clan) and Dragon episode (another glamsight and celtic magic user).

YO all, just dropping in to say HI....HI!
This is one of them anime I decide to check out of boredom, and its not bad. Only got upto the 6th ep so far and enjoying it. Only little niggle is the total change in...well I can only come up with the word character of Itsuki when he takes off the patch. But apart from that, very nice series. Gotta crack on now got some cathcing up to do!

The personality change was bound to happen, i mean he IS possesed by a demon of some sort. If he wasn't he'd have no magic abilities at all.
Taking the patch off is probably like letting the demon run free, we've al;ready seen he can communicate with it to a certain extent.
Though he is learning how to use the glam sight without removing the patch aswell.
TBH i like his personality change, he kinda reminds me of Yuri from Kyou Kara Maoh, who has a personality change when he uses the Maoh's powers.

well like I said its a little niggle, guess its more down to the fact it was quite sudden, and there was little build up. And as I've found out it wasn't in chronological order:eyespin:
well just seen ep up to ep 8 now and gotta say little random hot springs eps always works wonders for garnering favor from me:D
maybe its down to the influence of the total randomness of Hayate no Gotoku. but I do like the random stuff that shows up in anime these days, or maybe I've always been like that who knows eh?!:heh:
Now I'm still not sure what couple I want to root for, rather difficult to say for this show. Not sure why as I'm usually able to pick one straight away, guess just gotta wait and see how it goes for now

One of the nice things about the show is that the girls really seem to like the non GAR Itsuki, with Honami even making him promise to not take his patch off. I think the eye is like a wedge to let the harem nice guy niceness slip into their hearts. When the demon eye took over Itsuki it probably thought this is the perfect tool to create my harem. I expect to see the world ruled by a dynasty of Itsuki juniors all with one red eye in a few hundred years time.

Only thing I don't like about the anime is the merchandise. The damn r2 dvds are going at 2 eps per disc, that's like 12 dvds and they cost more than the usual 3 eps per disc r2s. Only perk in getting the dvds are the occult related books that come with the dvds.
Merchandise asides, seem like the anime doesn't sit well with some the novel fans, especially because the anime character designs pale in comparison to the novel illustrations
Ep 12 was a nice christmas episode with the singing :)
adding to that was the curiosity of Honami and Addy, and then Kuroha gets involved :heh:
Itsuki's harem just went up to another level
Tiamat's Disciple
2007-12-28, 13:54
Kuroha has been a part of the harem for a while now. Although i dont really consider this a harem show just yet, since itsuki dosent seem to like any of the girls that way, just yet. He's the atypical nice guy. If/when his memories of honamo return, things could get interesting.
This is one of the reasons im starting to get annoyed with this show, the out of sequence is getting on my nerves. Sure it appaears to flow okay despite it, but certain points are totaly out of whack because of it. For example Kuroha's poltergiest powers, itskui's not having memories of honami, etc etc
Doing things this way is bloody annoying, and if they were this way on the DVD's id never buy them, having to switch dvd's every other episode would be to much hassel

Are we even sure Itsuki forgot Honami?
He doesn't seem to get she feels guilty about what happened to his eye when they were little, but that's not the same as forgetting everything.
Tiamat's Disciple
2007-12-28, 14:33
Yes he's forgotten about her. If you watch the episodes in the correct order (not aired order) in the first episode Honami says itski really has forgetten everything. This is after he calls Honami-san
episode 2, 11:15 - 11:29.
itski: honami-san
honami: 'honami-san' eh? he really dosent remember anything, huh?
itski: eh?
honami: just call me honami
If he remembered their childhood together he wouldn't be calling her honami-san, and she wouldnt have to tell him to call her honami. There's also the begining when honami is explaining what happens to someone if they come into contact with the other side.
To my mind, everything is screaming that he dosent remember their childhood, just what he's seen since he came to astral
I also wish they'd researched their pagan magic a bit better, as a pagan it's easy to spot the holes. lol it's almost like they just went to wikipedia and took what was there as gospel >.<
It's rather funny at times to see how they interpret the various religions hehe

^ quoting back...
The chronological sequence of all the aired episodes is such:
2-5-6-4-11-1-3-8-7-9-10
Yeah, not much regularity... that's all I can say...
I don't see the problem with itsuki not being able to remember his childhood. After all those series where male leads catch amnesia for no apparent reason, at least itsuki has the excuse of experiencing a traumatic event. It could be that he was taken away to be cared for by another household and has recently just returned to become president of astral so it's natural if his memories fade.
The jumps aren't that bad...sooner or later they will be explained ^^

This site lists the episodes in their proper order. It's updated shortly after each episode airs http://www.kadokawa.co.jp/sneaker/magica/story/
As for the reason, there can't be one, other than they wanted to lol. I mean if it was for some insane story reason, that would be fine. But the fact that the shows website says they're out of order, and shows the order that they're meant to be watched in, IMO just shows they're just doing it as a gimik.
It's a bit annoying, but so long as that websites maintained showing which episode goes where all will be good. Wonder if they'll do a second season of this.
It is a good show, one of the better ones of the past few seasons, but that jumping does become annoying. I mean Kuroha is episode one, which (if you watch in air order) happens before she's even met Itski >.<

Unfortunately for you, the first R2 dvd is already out and the episodes are in the same order as the broadcast, so it won't be like the Haruhi Dvds. Anyway, I'm perfectly fine with the haphazard order and I prefer it this way. The Haruhi Dvds were very disappointing because watching the episodes in order just seem stale in comparison to the impact the TV episodes achieved.
It may be gimicky, but I feel that the random ordering of episode is a fine way of story telling. To each his own.

I never watched Haruhi, seemed to boring to get into lol. Anyway the problem with Rental Magica and the haphazard order of airing is that you have a load of contradictions, such as Kuroha appearing before she's even met Itski, abilities being used before they've been learnt, enemies defeated before the job's even started and so on.
It may seem to flow okay out of sequence, but if your actively wanting to follow the story then it's a nightmare

Well, it's a gimmick. It gives you reason to rewatch the eps.
If you ask me, random order gives a +1 for rewatchability. Ain't it more fun that way? Makes you think than just watch and forget.
But if there's anything to blame, it'd be the internet for giving us so many series to watch. If we were just watching anime like ordinary tv, we'd be more appreciative of it.

I find that a unique selling point for this series. Maybe you are just looking for a straight linear story but I quite enjoy the "wtf" along the way :heh: Kuroha's powers aren't that big of a deal anyway so they could afford to play around with the ordering. Now if there played around with the ordering of some serious arcs like seeing the end of lapis arcs before it even begun, then that would have been a problem for me - and a hard pill to swallow. But they never did that so it's alright so far ;)

Ah, but that begs the question. Just how random is the order? It may not be in chronological order, but that doesn't mean the order is unplanned. I find none-chronological order can be interesting so long as it's done right and in an interesting manner. It should never be out of order for heck of it. Although granted in a random comedy series for the heck of it may be fitting.
Either way having watched The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Hidamari Sketch, and thus now watching this which are all in none-chronological order, I've grown more used to the idea anyway. Okay granted the DVD order of Haruhi is chronological, but the broadcast wasn't. Note I've found pros and cons to both orders of Haruhi. Which is all that needs to be said right now.

I've watched other non ordered shows, and they've all been handled better than this. Having characters as part of the team BEFORE they've even been introduced is insane. If it was done as flash back, that would be okay, i could handle that.
and yes they have messed around with a main arc, the Night arc is out of sequence. It's not really a gimmick, it's just frustrating. I like anime that makes me think, not anime that annoys the hell out of me. I mean, lets say this series was licensed and released as aired, you'd be spending more time running to your dvd play swapping disks than you would watching them.
I like to do marathon sittings, for example i recently sat and rewatched all of Ninomiya in one sitting, and tomorrow i'll sit and watch Night Wizard all the way through. You couldnt really do that with this series cause it dosent make much sense in the flow of things.
It's easy on the net, since you can simply mix the playlist into it's right order, but with DVD's it'd be a nightmare. I wouldn't buy them, frankly i'd make my own DVD out of the subbed episodes.
Glad to note i'm not alone in this though, on a UK anime forum a lot of comments agreed with me. Some don't care one way or the other, and some liked it, but most hate it.
But, meh, each to their own. As i DL each episode i check the website to see where it's meant to be placed and then rename them accordingly.

Hmmm I dunno about the Homani-san bit... Isn't it a coming of age thing to drop the chans and start sanning people out of respect? I would think that this would be doubly the case if it is work related. Even Honami tends to call him pres instead of It-chan when she remembers to :p
Tiamat's Disciple
2007-12-28, 22:14
She says it clearly he dosent remember, and his entire way of talking and acting towards her screams it. He treats her the same way he trats Addy, and they only just met. They me be friends now, but it's fairly obvious he dosent remember her from the past
musashiken
2007-12-28, 22:52
Wasn't it because Honami and Itsuki were apart for so long? I mean it's obvious she left for magic training right after Itsuki got his eye right? So being the polite Japanese that he is, Itsuki would refer to Honami as a "san" because that's what you do to people you've not met in a long time. And the time apart probably diluted his memories of her, together with the shock of gaining the Glam eye while he was at a young age befuddled his mind even more.
So Itsuki probably remembers Honami as "the little girl who was beside me during that incident while I was a young kid but now we've grown up a bit, I've forgotten about some stuff and I should be speaking in honorifics to this lady I just met again after a long time"
While Honami remembers Itsuki as "the little boy whom I caused such misfortune upon, and after so long I'm finally reunited with him and he's my president I should call him as such but oh the little girl inside of me remembers "Icchan" whenever I see him in life threatening situations"

Got to be careful with comparing cultures. A good example is the recent comparison of men in Genshiken and another is Card Captor Sakura, did you notice how her dad always used to say Nadeshiko-san. I believe (please correct me if I am wrong), that san is used as a title for respect as well as Mr/Mrs/Miss.

Im not saying this just on honorifics, but rather their entire attitude to one another, the honorific use is just a part of it.
musashiken
2007-12-29, 00:52
It's not about honorifics. What I'm saying is purely based on my understanding of how the Japanese portray their social culture through fiction. There have been countless examples of childhood friends and close buddies ending up being polite yet distant towards each other once they enter a different phase in Japanese society. Thus Itsuki's and Honami's attitudes towards each other is actually typically Japanese imo (at least in anime and manga).
Tiamat's Disciple
2007-12-29, 01:31
I've actually come to the oposite conclusion using similar system to you >.<
After years of watching anime and reading manga, watching this series i feel he lost his memories of his childhood. I could be wrong, i could be right. It's just a feeling i've gotten from watching the series to date in it's correct order. All the little hints, not just in their attitude aswell, but also in honami's explantion from ep2, and just watching them.
To me, if it's the way you say it is, Honami wouldn't have said what she did and in the way she did in episode 2. We can debate this back and forth for months lol, i don't think it'll really be answered until we learn more about his eye and what happened next. I'm also wondering where itski's dad disapeared to, and if it relates to the eye in anyway. So many questions and no enough episodes lol
On another topic, im wondering if itski really is without magic, i mean from the series it dosent seem like just any one can form a magic company, and since they make blood relatives take over the company. It just feels weird that itski dosent have magic.
Total speculation, but what if he had magic as a kid, but when he became possesd he lost the ability to use it, but gained the glam sight. The demon survives by feeding off his magic, thus preventing him from using magic. Wild i know, but its 6am and ive been up all night so im having wild thoughts hehe
FlareKnight
2007-12-29, 01:36
Well at least Itsuki's eye was not normal even before that incident. So have to wonder if he would have had any kind of ability if none of that had happened. Is a possible theory that the glam sight is so overwhelming everything else gets suppressed or fed off as a result.
Won't pretend I have some great understanding of another culture here. Just going by my gut and how it just doesn't seem like he remembers Honami from childhood. Just feel like there is something missing that would be there if he had those memories. Seems possible that kind of situation could have affected his memory. If a side effect of the eye is slowly driving the user mad than anything is within reason.
Anyways until they put up a sign saying it one way or the other that kind of point could be debated for a long time.
People in Japan that have known each other personally (ie, friends from school) for a long time and are the same age, usually call each other by given name or nickname throughout life. Parents often put an honorific on their child's name, but friends of the same age usually don't. However, when adults make friends with other adults, they usually always use an honorific, and children that make friends with older or younger children usually use an honorific.

Itsuki has magic potential but he isn't improving on it. I can't remember which ep but someone said that he would be able to sense magic pollution if the villain used their magic. If he was willing to learn some spells then he could be a mage as well (but it doesn't look like he has that kind of drive :heh:).
Does honami possess magic potential as well? or did she just "learn" her magic.
On the memory loss thing, I'm just going for the simple answer that he has memory loss from the shock + being away for so long (I suspect that he was given to another family to be cared for so that his eye will not be bothered).

Does he need to learn a spell if all he needs to do is whip off his patch and ram his arm into evil monster and dispel it?
I guess the whole bleeding thing and corruption of his body and mind might be an issue to keep relying in it :p

A rather predictable ep for me...I just know that addy was going to get screwed once her shark stopped working - she was way to dependant on in  But overall it was nice to see some development and the relationship between the girls. Ah nice to see an episode focused on the younger days of Honami and Adelicia. Such cute kids those two make. Still having Adelicia start teaching him after the credits should be interesting.

Guess Addy couldn't allow Honami to be teaching Itsuki after the ED anymore. So the rivalry has spread even further :). Little touch like Honami's face on a chalk board being crossed out.
Not a bad episode to learn a bit of the past between those two. Going back to days in school. That's Addy for you to go beyond the test and finish things off herself. Luckily it all ended alright since a mass slaughter might be something you'd get in trouble over :heh:.

Who would have guessed that Honami is the grand druidess of the world. I loved the way how she is the opposite of Addy who is rather hot headed, whilst she is calm collected and sits there like a ninja in the corner. Well disregarding her early fight with the bully boys.
Enjoyed a peak into their past. Makes me wonder how much of the attention Addy is directing at It-chan is actually directed at Honami?
That was a nice little side story. Now if only Addy learned that not every situation requires her favorite shark. Using it to destroy the Headless Knight was one thing, but yeah...overdid it. Honami was cute taking the lead, and of course, she's doing it all for Itsuki. Wonder what Itsuki was doing during that time anyway...
Overall, a good episode. Just as long as Itsuki can handle the swimsuit competition.

Honami could indeed be one of if not the best in the Celtic field, but if there are not many others there it doesn't say that much.
Can't blame Addy for constantly going with Forneus. If that's the best or all you've got might as well keep going with it. But in the future seems to make use of a variety to stay on top of things. Though does use her favourite quite often still.
A flashback episode that gave us more background for Addie and Honamie, even as a child Addie was suffering from hubris he.

Conspiracy theory about Itsuki's eye....
The scene where we see Itsuki pushing Honami down makes me wonder.... It makes me wonder if the eye is just a physical manifestation of something that already existed inside Itsuki before the black mist caught him.
Let me explain...
I just don't get why he pushed Honami over. Surely he should have let her continue running whilst he takes another turning to lure the monster away. So makes me think maybe he knew something more about it. Maybe the monster only chases people who run, that would explain why he grounded her. Or maybe the eye which already existed inside Itsuki was already was planning the Glam Sight Demon's sexy harem even then. It made Itsuki shove Honami down to ensure that the memory of his sacrifice would be burnt forever more into her memories so she would sacrifice herself for him not matter what. That action laid down the seed to grow the harem we see today!

Wow dude...that is the dumbest yet most logical thing I have ever read! It all makes sense now...sacrifice yourself now to ensure the future and safety of your demonic harem. Looks like all 3 of the girls' attachment to the harem have now been explained, all that awaits is the loli arc:heh:

Umm, that is a very good theory about it, maybe the Glam Sight has already show him in dreams that he will have a harem one day and he was curious about it and want to see if it will come true and it did. Itsuki is surprising me more and more.
I'm not sure if this has been asked before,
Did anyone ever translate the "glam sight meanings" of the alternate kanji in the intro & outro? (the ones that change when highlighted).
It'd be great to find out the hidden meanings/extended context to the song lyrics ^^
I love this series btw! ^_^

grey_moon: Love that theory.
Ep 13
The good: Hooray, background!
The bad: The second half of that ep was so predictable. Once Adilisia knocked over the grave, you could see what was going to happen. But I think they've wasted a golden opportunity with this episode. They've finally added background to these two characters that desperately needed it... and yet, it was so trite. Honami is totally motivated by a generic nicety from a childhood crush that she's hung onto for all these years (one that could instead be a noble act of self-sacrifice if this series had any capacity for creating a real sense of suspense), and Adilisia... well, what did we learn about Adilisia in this episode? She went to school, she was better than everyone else, she learnt stuff from her father (told, not shown), she was overconfident, and she was taught a lesson by Honami. So what? She's still the uptight, prim and proper, headstrong and emotionally defensive tsundere we thought she was before we saw this episode. All we really saw from this episode was the context in which she knew Honami earlier on. As far as their relationship is concerned... well, I guess this kick-started their rivalry. Except not really, since, as far as I can tell, their rivalry didn't really get into gear until they both started going after Itsuki.
The way they're trying to build Adilisia and Honami's characters really frustrates me at times, since every time they add something to their characters, it usually bounces straight off them, generally because it's either trite or forced. Or the writers do something stupid, like make them think and act the exact same way in a given situation. At least they acted differently in this episode. Their characters do desperately need something more than the set of characteristics that can be listed in a profile on the second to last page in a manga volume that it feels like they have at the moment.

I loved episode 13. I wanted some backround on Honomi and Addy and I finally got it. I had no idea they actually went to the same school and thats where their rivlary started. I find it funny their rivalry started in school over Magic and now their a new one has started over It-chan. It would makes sense they end liking the same guy.

I always thought they were rival since before Addy met Itsuki. And that, indeed, she started messing with him to annoy Honami more than anything.
Though I'd have to agree that the off the wall, we'll-destroy-a-mountain-with-our-bickering element didn't come until after.

I too think their rivalry started before Addy met Itsuki. Even before Addy got to know Itsuki she was always snarky and acted superior to Honomi. So I think the rivarly has been around since they were at the academy.

Well yea...overall it was a rather pointless ep that hardly added much depth to what we already know about the pair, seen as how there hasn't been any drastic changes in personality - things would have been different if their personalities swapped though, but the writers obviously had no guts to do that ~ haha :heh: Well a positive side to it is that now I have a new found respect for honami :)

Ahh the long awaited nekoyashiki episode is finally here! :D
Parts of his past are revealed and it seems like he had a woman he "liked" who died unfortunatly. The girl's brother blames it on nekoyashiki and they face off each other. Epix fight! Whilst nekoyashiki uses cats, the other guy uses ferret spirits but is unable to defeat him. Pretty nice ep that hints on nekoyashiki's past and it turns out that mikan was saved by him...more on that is needed - maybe a mikan ep next ^^

So Kei blames Nekoyashiki because he took Mikan and left so Sakuya had to do what he was supposed to and died for it...
Best episode for a while.
Really awesome fight between Kei and Nekoyashiki. Time flew right by as well.
First real Nekoyashiki episode and has a bit on his past and Mikan's as well which is good I guess.
They didn't really necessarily have to add in Honami and Addie, but they did anyways...

As always nice info from Shinsen at the end. Especially "What you really need to take away from this is that ancient Chinese philosophers had very little in the way of useful work to do and most of their time screwing around with numbers." :D.
So did get some background on Nekoyashiki and even how Mikan ended up in Astral. Though they will have to come back and address just what happened that Nekoyashiki left and took Mikan with him.
And yes young Mikan is very cute :).
Was a great fight that showed what Nekoyashiki could do. Other than make barriers and get exhausted. Incredible he went through that big fight and then revealed that he knew how to heal the guy :heh:.
So bring on the mermaids. Why is it I have a feeling that Itsuki is going to get hit by one of the girls during that episode? :heh:

Ah nice to finally have an episode focused on Nekoyashiki. He was kind of cool and scary in this episode. Interesting that he's responsible for Mikan being introduced to Astral. I too hope for a Mikan episode that goes deeper into this. In general I hope for another Mikan episode because we need more of her.
Sunday night means Rental Magica night, and I'm glad I've made it that way, after a good episode like this one. No Glam Sight required, Nekoyashiki won it all on his own. He even opened his eyes for a brief moment. If he can do all that he did without his cats, no wonder he's so useful to the team with them.
On a random note, when Itsuki was getting that look into the past with the young Mikan, it reminded me of a visual novel. All that was missing was the text box on the bottom and the "pick an option" button.
Other minor changes I've noticed in the show are the title screen (spinning green clock now), and Addie being the one to teach Itsuki in the episode lesson/preview. New year, new changes. Cool.
Again, kudos to Shinsen for their funny and informative notes. Foxes up the toenails doesn't sound too pleasing, but I don't necessarily want foxes going up my pants either.
Line of the episode had to be Nekoyashiki's "But that wouldn't have been any fun." He is definitely the man.
So, it's mermaids next week. Should be fun.

Priceless XD
Watching nekoyashiki kick some ass again was awesome...and it happened just after he opened his eyes, and we all know what happens when a guy who never opens his eyes, actually does :uhoh:
If Itsuki was unable to do anything, I'm sure Nekoyashiki could pull an Aria and have one of his cats take over as company president for a day. They're Nekoyashiki's cats, they can do that.

Yeah if we're going straight forward power would have to go with Addy. Summons can really bring it in a fight. Can be pretty flexible for Forneus's flight or Eligor's ability to strike a person's shadow. Nekoyashiki is solid on both attack and defence. So can handle a variety of situations, plus you toss in experience and he's reliable.
Mikan's good on the defence, but only a few situations where she could take down an enemy. Honami is good for range and in the right environment can pull out things like root attacks. Kuroha has been forgotten, but as we saw in her episode can handle things. Being naturally able to float around and toss things with poltergeist may not have the most overall power, but is good to count on.
Ah Itsuki. Well I guess harem power might go into the calculations :). But glam sight while having a great cost is a strong resource. Being able to dodge most things will make him tough to take down. Though unless the opponent can be defeated with a punch to a weak spot has to rely on others to win out.
So maybe, Addy>Nekoyashiki>Honami>Kuroha>Mikan>Itsuki. Though in the end its pretty flexible depending on what the situation is. Comes down to whether the person's abilities fit what the problem is.
Nekoyashiki is the strongest. It says so on the website, and is made abundantly clear in book 10 when it's revealed that:
Nekoyashiki can use every type of magic there is, and has only lost one 1v1 fight in his life, against the nigh-invincible Kagezaki.

Honami and Addy have too much of the rival thing going on to say one's stronger than the other. If Addy was, clearly and truly, stronger than Honami, she'd just ignore her, not bicker with her all the time and try to one-up her.
And I can't imagine Nekoyashiki not being the most experienced of the lot. That's got to count for a lot.

I don't know about that. Because Addy does not have that type of personality to simply walk away.

Addy may very well be stronger than honami...but it is honami's acknowledgement of addy's strength that she doesn't give which causes addy to stay behind and bicker
Addy would go away if honami just calls tells her that she is stronger but that would hurt her ego :heh:

Addy did try to befriend Honami in her own way (ep 13) even when she didn't know of honami's real potential. Her rivalry towards honami is just her way of acknowledging Honami's potential and resourcefulness.

UPR: Sure she does. She's a snob. She'd dismiss Honami entirely. And if really Honami got in her way, she'd kick her ass in a way that can't be denied, same as she did to those kids. But she doesn't, because she can't, and because she has a healthy respect for Honami.
At one point in the books it's revealed that Adelicia and Honami have a 376-376 win/loss record against one another, so they're more or less even.
That and they bicker way too much.

But there is alot of problems when you deal with that chart. Because of the various to it for example. Minami could be a 1 for her attack because of her Pulification power but when she deals with any spirts or anything that isnt human, her power greatly increased to a 5 (for crying out at loud, he was fighting against a god) but her defense is weaken as well. But against anything else, her defense will be high but her offsense will be low.
But the biggest wild card in this is the Glam Sight (Demonic Eye/Fairy Eye), because it has been a very long time since somebody had the Fairy Eye but It been longer for the Demonic Eye/Glam Sight. So nobody really knows the true power of the Glam Sight, Itsuki is weakest because he cant use the Eye all of time, like the others that can use their magic anytime and anyplace and if he use it too much, then his mental state and his life could be in trouble. But Glam Sight
is very powerful in it own right but cant be use for a long periods of time, and also Glam Sight works better for like Hand to Hand Combat.
So in my opinion the list for the strongest is:
Nekoyashiki (Both powerful and experienced) >> Adilisia > Honami > Kuroha>Mikan > Itsuki (Itsuki's power is his weakness)
But in Short term situation it is
Itsuki with Glam Sight>>Nekoyashiki>Adilisia>Honami>Kuroha>Mikan

Honami is obviously stronger. Can Addy even do anything without her summons? Of course, you COULD count them as part of her power... but if you do that, why not count Itsuki's employees as part of his power, or Saito part of Louise's power (Zero no Tsukaima), or Archer part of Rin's power (Fate/Stay Night). Since they have independent minds and can fight separately - and conceivably, each other - I can't really consider any of them part of their master/leader. Note that Nekoyashiki is quite powerful WITHOUT his cats.
Little Addy walking around the haunted school was kind of pathetic - "Servant, do this. Servant, do that. Protect me from this. Kill that." She came across as being a weak, spoiled brat, helpless without her minion. And once her minion was destroyed, indeed, she threw in the towel without even trying.

...
I'll have to disagree with you here, she's a summoner that's her schtick, what make her powerfull is the number of summon she knows and the power of each summon.

Hey, the international association of magical summoners just called and they want to sue you for defamation and demeaning of their powers :p
It has been said that Solomon magic required a big deal of power to be used, both because of the risk involved to summon a demon while not letting it trying to eat the summoner, and because of the mental skill required to command greater demons. They are essentially different from employees of anything like that because she is using her magic to summon, control and subside them, which is what all summoners do anyway.
Otherwise it would look like this: Pttff... fire users are useless without their fire. All they dois calling forth it and after that they just sit doing nothing and waiting for the fire to do their work.
On another hand this type of discussion remembers me of something I dread. Sasuke isn't anything without his Sharingan, and Naruto only does what he does because of the Kyuubi. Kyubi is >>>>> Sharingan lolololol. Maybe this way you'll understand why this discussion is giving me the shivers :p
It also looks like alchemy sucks, and we all know how that turned out.
Well that's exactly because alchemy did what that table did. It was not a magic intended for 'direct' attack or defense, but as transformation of the user's environment to the user's advantage. Overall it is a style that requires more intelligence ^_^

In a proper fight Honami proved to be quite an equal to Addy - iirc she destroyed her lion with a wind spell O.O
In terms of power rankings for the series (pure power) nekoyashiki is probably the strongest, with both skill and experience (and natural talent ). Though he is easily the most lazy one to show his skills and prefers to let the young'ns clear up the mess first :heh:

THat is ture why exert yourself too much when the younglings are more than willing to prove themselves. I think this also has advantage in allowing the more inexperienced magicians to actually gain experience in a battle. The best way to learn is by doing.

He was able to completely stop that massive beam shot by ET, who he even said took him a few years to develop(?) (create?)...that must say something about his powers - even if I didn't think it was much at the time, thinking back I apologise to him :heh:
How strong do think nekoyashiki really is?
Nekoyashiki defeated Liu Fang Rang (the magician who punishes those who break the taboos) when he was 15 years old. And he have never been defeated in one-on-one battle excluding Kagezaki (the absurd powerful magician). But he is probably the weakest in the first generation Astral employees (Judaicus, Sekiren, Hazel and Nekoyashiki).

ep 15
Confusing ep? Without the subs I can hardly get what this ep was about other than with vague guesses.
Anyway - beach ep! YAY!
As usual we have the good o' rivalry between honami and addy as the challange each other with various beach activities, and like before what happened in the forest they both become worn out and faints.
Essentially a kuroha and itsuki ep here as they are talken to the past by a doll. There they were dropped on a boat where the sole person on board was hunting for mermaids. This is where it all becomes fuzzy for me :heh:
Overall it was rather average and random. Few funny scenes here and there but not much. Though itsuki did show the viewers that he can fight without his glem sight and that he cares about kuroha very much - nothing new though :p
serenade_beta
2008-01-20, 17:26
Overall, just a simple stand-alone episode about a fisherman who went to hunt mermaids (because their meat is just so~ amazing) and got trapped in a freaky world.
Well, it's nice that he made it back home where Mutsumi? greeted him. :)
Some stuff about mermaids like how they eat people that have eaten their kind. And I'm surprised at how weak they are. Itsuki was able to hold his own against them with just an oar...
The drama with Kuroha disappearing was just... lol.
Random thoughts:
-Nekoyashiki-*shiver* *shiver*
Respect level drops by 2.
-Some boring Honami vs. Addie competition and jealousy
-If it wasn't for the fact that I know the cat can be used to talk to Nekoyashiki, I'd almost think Itsuki was loony.
-Kuroha teaches this time.

Well Honami will win this round at least of lasting longer in the preview portion. Kuroha jumps out and takes over.
Of course welcome to the beach episode. After getting a hot springs episode you just knew this was coming.
So a Kuroha episode this time around. Guess it made sense with her getting the first swimsuit entrance. Oh Mikan....not knowing that sand is hot :heh:.
A fisherman who wasn't there when his daughter passed away from illness. Due to being out at sea looking for mermaids so he could cure her. Another case where the dead get to rest in peace, the daughter got to help save her father. Guy also returned home and descendants took over the shrine.
Yeah apparently mermaids aren't too bad. Just get an oar and that will be that. Guess using Glam Sight would have been pointless since there wasn't much else he could do. Kuroha stepped up and did a good job.
Maybe since its late at night, but was worried about Kuroha there. Must be a terrifying thing to vanish after all. Bad enough being dead, but just going like that would be terrible. Glad she made it out alright, and interesting way they returned :).

Probably not. They'd most likely just do a long, "dramatic" arc at the end with the Big Bad 'n stuff. Generic anime style but oh well.
I've come to the conclusion long ago that the only reason I'm watching this is for the Ghost Girl, and, well, considering that point, this isn't such a bad episode. :p

Hot springs episode was covered, and now comes the beach episode. I found it to be a good episode, usual Rental Magica stuff. And of course, seeing all the girls in swimsuits, and more of Kuroha. Those weren't exactly SnH style mermaids they were dealing with - those things were vicious.

Oni episode will probably finish by ep21, and the rest will be Dragon episode. That episode's main heroines are both Honami and Addy.
Regardless of that, they still continue scrambling for Itsuki in the latest novel. So the anime may not go for specific character ending, for the extremely little possibility of season 2.

A new character is introduced who is a friend of nekoyashiki and is a monk(?). This guy is pretty awesome I have to say. He is very strong and is able to produce blades out of his armpits. Not to mention how GAR he was when he wanted to commit seppuku for wronging itsuki XD
Well the main theme of this ep was to whip itsuki into shape so he is able to defend himself rather than counting on the girls all the time. He is put to the challange when nekoyashiki arranged for him to be cornered by this catapillar type monster in the form of a warrior. Itsuki ends up relying on his eye but he doesn't actually pull off his eyepatch (does this mean he lessens the corruption?). This could be an indicator in the order of which this ep fits in - which episode was it again that he used his eye through his eyepatch?
Kuroha + maid outfit is just too moe.

-Er... Itsuki chased a butterfly...
-Some weapon-wielding, -de gozaru-using, weirdo appears called Sekiren appears...
Though he's really powerful.
*reminds me of Ghost Hunt because of his chant*
-Kuroha in a maid outfit... *good*
Itsuki didn't see anything with her flying over him?
-Itsuki decided to learn taijutsu from Sekiren. Cowardice to the max... But at least he's trying to learn to do something rather than just rely on his eye.
-Well, it was a pretty good episode since Itsuki has finally succeeded in finishing a case by himself, defeating the monster of the week, a larva.
Though I couldn't go through Sekiren's whole speech at the end without laughing...
Next time - Devil's Revolt
Looking kinda manly there, Itsuki. Always nice to see a character that when they say they're going to do something, they do it. He really is cutting back on the Glam Sight. Bravo, Itsuki.
Who was that voicing Sekiren? I know the voice sounded familiar, but I can't be entirely sure. Also, Kuroha in a maid outfit - I approve. Better than average episode - always a fun way to spend Sunday nights.

Kuroha in a maid outfit is definitely great moe there . Bathing suit and now a maid outfit she's really out to expand her clothing selection. Was almost expecting something about getting a peak when she was floating above him like that, but oh well.
At least Itsuki is working on improving himself. Clearly was a bit worried early on with him almost running away from the training attacks. But good to see him take care of a case on his own and everything worked out fine. Though working with an eye that will drive you insane doesn't sound like sound advice to me.
Honami takes back the episode preview section as well.

Ok so this episode shows us how great a guy Itsuki is.
First he shows great determination with all his mountain training where he meets an injured butterfly. Our great and noble hero shows us his purity in attempting to catch it so he can heal it.
Pity it was evil.
Sekiren appears and is awesome and eventually tries to commit seppuku which makes him more awesome. Seppuku jokes are something that anime needs more of.
Itsuki also goes and shows us what he has learnt in his "Practical lesson" and is able to resist taking the eye patch off even though it kept yelling at him.
Sekiren makes a big emotive speech which makes him more awesome again but not as much this time.
I hope he appears more.
FlyingMaid!Kuroha was just weird though and even Itsuki agrees with me.

Ah Seriken is quite fun. Hopefully we'll see a bit more him later. Kuroha as a maid was nice to see. Ah so even if was training Itsuki still managed to win by himself. The whole thing about properly using the eye rather than avoiding it was interesting.

Oh yea and some other stuff about itsuki and butterflies...Getting stronger...etc. etc. :p

Loved the maid outfit. She really is pulling ahead of the rest, with herbal tea, bento and now maid uniform :) Who cares that she can't procreate with It-chan, she makes a darn fine retirement plan when he kicks the bucket :p
What did Itsuki used to punch out the core?

Okay, time to jump in!
Seki is a character from the novels, who is another employee of Astral, and is trying to teach Itsuki magic... I think.
Anyway, he's the new powerhouse of Astral, as his power in the novels is greater than that of Nekoyashiki AND Honami...
Re: The Love...Polygon
I've been all over the place regarding the romantic pairing for the story.
Initially, I WAS a fan of Adelicia...as a romantic relationship would help explain why Addy was fighting with Astral...until the end of the Addy's Dad mini-arc. From there, until the beach episode, I was set on Honami and the whole Osananajimi thing...
...until I saw Kuroha in that swimsuit.
THAT, my friends, is THE quickest turnaround I have EVER done for a romantic pairing.
It was SUPREMELY helped by the eternal Honami/Addy rivalry...which convinces me that they're always going to be too busy fighting each over (or playing make-believe like Ep 8) to make any REAL progress with him...paving the way for the Neighborhood Friendly Ghost-Girl to win!

Early on was easily supporting Addy in things. Very nice moments like when Itsuki hugged her and was just grateful she was still alive. Still like her character and more Addy moments aren't bad in my view.
Don't think it was just the swimsuit moment though that was definitely major points :D. But just through things her character has been really likable and enjoyable to watch when she got her moments in the series.
With a show like this you can pretty much expect little conclusiveness in relationships, but still fun to see what happens with Kuroha along the way.lol yea I bet if she looked up at Itsuki with her big puppy eyes and says "Onii-chan, daisuki!!!" (without the president) she would win hands down!:DCan't disagree that there is a lot of Mikan moe. Though knowing Itsuki he's probably take it as a sibling kind of relationship. Regardless of the outcome that would be a fun scene to see happen.
I'm with you Xellos, that was one entertaining cheek pinching battle.

Not everyone has superfast broadband Forbin, for some people it can take hours to download an episode. It takes 5-6 hours for me to download a 200mb episode through BT, and IRC is only slightly better.
It's not a requirement to spoiler tag stuff once the sub is released, but it is courteous to give people a chance to download the episode and watch it without being spoilered on the forum. If all you can talk about on this forum is the current episode, then what are you doing here? There's a lot more that can be discussed about the series other than the current episode.
As for the love situation:
I thought of Lapis originally, but she already said she wouldn't leave her master, even after he told her to go. So while she probably likes itski, she likes her master more.
Mikan i think has has her eyes on itski, i mean every chance she gets she rubbing up against him :)
I can't really see Kuroha as being in the running at all though to be honest, i mean she's dead. Can't really do anything with a ghost can ya :)

If anything, this episode provided a bit of plot development. Namely Itsuki being able to accomplish a mission without resorting to his eye. That makes for the poor screentime of the girls, Addie wasn't even there.
By the way, after a dramatic lack of presence in the first half of the series, Kuroha is quickly coming back and at the current time she seems to be the favourite girl of this show's production crew. Perhaps she'll have a chance with Itsuki, after all? Well anyway, this time as a maid, she was still as cute as ever :)

Currently enjoying the series for what it is. Episode 16 was a nice one, albeit with a few disjointed scenes. However, I like the thought of the eye actually having something of a 'mind of its own' as well as the interesting if a little predictable fact that Itsuki was pushed into a test, considering he couldn't learn much from Seikiren in terms of martial arts.
Never thought I would actually consider a ghost to be one of my favorite characters. :heh:

It's already been determind that the eye is a living entity, since it talks to him on several occassions early in the series. First time was in the first arc, with addies dad, next was in the fight with lapisis master. Also, since it is a demon, i think it'sd fairly obvious it's alive.
If anything, this episode provided a bit of plot development. Namely Itsuki being able to accomplish a mission without resorting to his eye. That makes for the poor screentime of the girls, Addie wasn't even there.
Actually it's the second time he's finished a job without using the eye directly, the first was with lapisis master. Like that time he was able to draw on the abilities of the eye with his normal eye, which stopped him from getting the spell contamination.
The plot development IMO is that this time he finished the job alone, preveously someone was always on hand to do the actual fighting, he'd just tell them what to do, then give the final blow. This time around he had to do everything himself

lol its easy to see why he has a harem :)
Addy likes him cause he got all buff and protected her from evil dad
Honami likes him cause they're childhood frinds, and she feels guilty about the eye (her whole 'ill protect him' drama)
Kuroha likes him cause he was the first to see and accept her, which led to him bringing her to astral
Mikan, mikan is the mystery. we still don't know much about her or her ties to astral. but she's tyhe loli character, a harem show isn't complete without a loli character :)

nah, in the paper soldiers thing he used the eye, and had help from honami and kuroha.
So far the only times he hasn't used the eye was during the fight with lapisis master. That was because he was still recovering from spell contamination and would of died (probably) if he used it. Theat was his first time, he struggles a bit with it as well. Next time he didnt use the eye was during the beach episode, where he and kuroha go sucked into the other realm. Though there was no need for him to use it in that episode. And finally in the tunnel in episode 16, where he learns to use the eye without removing the patch.
There have been other episodes where he didnt use the eye, but those are episodes not revolving around jobs, such as the onsen and christmas ones.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they handle the eye in the future, will suck if he suddenly goes back to removing it again.

Its a combination of both, grey_moon was spot on with his theory before. The eye foreseen his future(or possible one, most likely it seen the harem one and didn't want to give it up) so acted out actions that would draw forth his harem!

More seriously though, quite frankly I don't see this show resolving the Itsuki Wars any time soon; it's just not that type of show. Besides, I suspect the source material didn't either.
Mind you, my favorite is Ghost Girl by far. She's the only girl President Mad-Eye seems to confide himself to quite freely; a nice girl and like somebody said an excellent retirement plan for the afterlife. :heh:

Kind of like how the Christmas episode ended (still one of my favourites of the show, very fitting at the time). Probably the two of them pulling on Itsuki for some reason or another, Mikan jumping on board, and Kuroha looking over feeling for him :). Just doesn't feel like the kind of show that would actually clearly pick one character.Where does sexy ghost girl get her clothes from? If they are real then if she looses concentration or needs to phase through stuff surely they will errr fall off. Unless there is a ghost shop, I'm guessing that they need to burn the clothes for her so she can wear it.Something I've been pretty curious about myself at times. I mean if she could make herself solid enough to just wear normal clothes (which would open things up in terms of being solid for other activities :heh:)that still leaves a question. The clothes would just be floating there and floating clothes probably make people nervous. Let's check out the clothes falling off when she phases through things theory :D. But since she came out of the ground that one episode seems like its been shot as an option.
Maybe upon contact the clothes become translucent. They could just have the properties of a ghost when she puts them on. Or maybe there is a special place that makes clothing for ghosts. Be nice if it was cleared up, but probably they won't worry about it.lol.Mind you, my favorite is Ghost Girl by far. She's the only girl President Mad-Eye seems to confide himself to quite freely; a nice girl and like somebody said an excellent retirement plan for the afterlife. :heh:Can't disagreeing with liking Kuroha. Just a solid girl in the middle of all the chaos. Mikan just likes playing with Itsuki. Honami and Addy are going to kill the guy or at least rip him in two one of these days. Really bringing their competition into another field.
Just with Kuroha can talk and comfortably get along. Much less chance at getting books dropped on him or knocked around :). Just the great qualities of friendliness, willing to play some tricks, can make some great tea, and just overall is a nice person.

She probably creates them through self imaging, as in she believes herself to be wearing x clothes, so she appeares to be wearing them. Ectoplasam clothing, new for spring 2008!!

Kuroha just waiting for Addy and Honami to kill Itsuki and then he will be a ghost too.:D
Anyway, usually ghost remain in the world cos they have a unfulfilled wish. I wonder what Kuroha wish is. A boyfriend?
Her clothes are probably ghostly ones which she just to think hard for it to appear. No laundry and wardrobe problems.

Kinda funny as when this show first started you really wouldn't know she was a ghost. Personally I thought she was a secretary and just about the only "normal" person in that office, at lest until the later episodes.

Thats cause of the screwey out of synch airing of the episodes. The first time we really meet kuroha is after itski breaks his leg in the first arc, he sees her in the hospital. I can't believe they've kept that sequence for the DVD's aswell, though i supposed it does mean people will buy all of the DVD's.

Yeah quite odd in that I felt the same way about her being the most normal person in the group. Who would of guessed they'd drop her being a ghost on us in episode 4 :)? Still even including the ghost aspect she still feels the most normal out of everyone.
I'm sure she gets paid a salary. Ghosts do qualify under some workers rights situation right? I'm sure Itsuki wouldn't hold back from giving her some pay to work with.*swings a pocket watch in front of her*
You are naked, you are naked, you are naked...I'm not sure that's right.....(Oh what the heck, let's hope it works :D)

She was seen somewhat naked in that hot springs episode. Of course I can only really remember Mikan messing with her.

She also burns her money to buy some burned clothes from the ghost boutique? O.O;;

Honestly that's pretty much the image I get when thinking about the end of the series. Kind of like how the Christmas episode ended (still one of my favourites of the show, very fitting at the time). Probably the two of them pulling on Itsuki for some reason or another, Mikan jumping on board, and Kuroha looking over feeling for him :). Just doesn't feel like the kind of show that would actually clearly pick one character.
That situation is know as the "Tenchi Muyo" situation. All of those girls around there and cant even pick one but he got alot of choices. But right now for me, I think that Kuroha is a better choice right now but Mikan could be candiate but she is just too young right now.
*Wow, we are almost at 1,000 post for this*

She was naked once...the first time she unleashed her powers on that toaism (?) guy. Itsuki must have commanded her so but we didn't hear :eyebrow:
