Hi I'm new but i'm a big Claymore fan since some years.

I have a pretty tricky signature request for someone whos pretty skillful with making pictures.

Its a crossover of Claymore and Berserk. I'm bad with picture tools, but i guess there are some skilled useres out there that could manage to create this pic:

Note: 50,000 bytes is less than 50 kilobytes. A kilobyte is actually 1024 bytes, not 1000.

No, it's not just MS.

It's the entire Binary prefix system, which dates back to before MS existed.

And yes, you're right. When you're talking about hard disk manufacturers they use the SI system where 1 KB = 1000 bytes. However, when you're talking about file size on a hard disk, which is what is important regarding the 50,000 byte limit for these forums, it's still standard practice to use the Binary prefix system.

In other words, a "500 GB" hard drive can actually only store "465 GB" or so of files because the "500 GB" capacity refers to "gigabyte" in the SI system, but the "465 GB" of files refers to "gigabyte" in the Binary system. Both of these values are roughly equal to 500,000,000,000 bytes though.

Anyways, this thread isn't about the History of Computing Standards so this is the last I'll comment on it. Sorry for the interruption. ><;;

One kilobyte is 1024 bytes.
One megabyte is 1024 kilobytes, so (1024x1024) = 1,048,576 bytes.
One gigabyte is 1024 megabytes, so (1024 ^ 3) = 1,073,741,824 bytes.

So my free space expressed in gigabytes is actually 17,214,799,872 / 1,073,741,824 = 16.03253173828125 gigabytes.

Again, a kilobyte is only considered 1024 bytes when you're talking about memory or hard drive space. If you're talking about internet transfer rates, a kilobyte actually is 1000 bytes.

By the way... some people are actually trying to push for the 1024 byte names to be changed to "kibibyte (KiB)", "mebibyte (MiB)", "gibibyte (GiB)", etc in order to avoid this confusion. Unfortunately, the vast majority doesn't use this system.

The one on top confuses me; it looks darker on one of my monitors than it does on the other. Guess they have different gamma settings or something. :heh: It looks a bit dark now.

It's a bit fast and if you can, try a loop. I made one of that scene before so I'll just show it for you to give you an example of timing and looping.

Well i use imageready to get the pictures then, I downsize them, then I edit them in photoshop. Now while in photoshop I use a combo of the magentic lasso, the magic wand and eraser tool to cut, cleave, and trim the image section I require then it edit it in imageready to add in things like a border and backround. All of the computer classes I had taken in high school made me very fluent in how to work photoshop tools.:)

Well you need a program like Vdub to get the frames you want out of the avi then you can take those frames in phototshop imageready and edit them to fit the size requirements and to get the speed you desire. Understand?:)

May I ask what programs you guys are using to make these wonderful gifs?

I just use the Gimp (version 2.2), but I've not been accused of making "wonderful" gifs, either! :D

I use the "grab" feature of ffdshow, set to capture every second frame, to grab the sections of video I'm interested in (even then, I usually throw away every other frame), open the first frame-grab in the Gimp, then just drag and drop the rest into that image, being careful to drag from the top frame-grab image, so they "drop" in correct order). It treats the frames of animation as separate layers.

After that, it's just finding those perfect 3 to 5 frames to make the GIF, then, starting at the bottom (base) layer, I turn on "grain extract" of subsequent layers, so I can move the layer to cancel out camera panning (just remember to switch it back to "normal" after!). After that, it's just drudgery, fixing the levels, contrast, and unsharp masks on all the layers, as well as editing the layer attributes to add timing information.

When all this is done, all that's left is running the "optimise for GIFs" filter, which will export your work to a "gif-ready" image, then you get to switch the image from RGB mode to indexed mode, picking the smallest number of colors one can, without making the image look cruddy. Expect to make much use of the "undo" button! :D

Since I use an "intentionally" free program, that isn't really designed with animation in mind, you can see I have to do a lot of drudgery that other programs probably automate for you. I've wondered about trying other graphics programs like Paint.net or Pixia, but I'm too lazy, and I'm too legal to "find" free Photoshop anywhere. :)

If you want to redo your image from the RGB images, when you switch to "indexed" mode, try picking far fewer than 255 colors for your optimized palette. If you look at my avatar, you'll find I'm using only 64 colors for mine. Experiment with different numbers, till you find the set that doesn't make the image look too cruddy, while not letting the image get too big. Somewhere in the 32 to 128 colors range. It's an art, rather than a science, with some smaller index numbers doing better than slightly larger ones, and vice-versa.

If you only saved your work as an indexed image, reindexing will make things look horribly worse, though in this case, a reindexing to 64 colors with Steinberg (reduced color bleeding, and alpha dithering enabled) didn't really change the image, while shaving off 10 kb in size.

I've pushed it down to 48 colors for a middling-good image quality at only 35 kb, but I didn't bother to save that... The Gimp also inserted a non-zero delay, to have mercy on those of us with lesser CPUs too! :D If you redo yours from the original frame captures, you could probably make a very good image using only a 32 - 48 color palette, which will let you add a few more frames.

Right now I'm attempting to make some gifs, but it seems that I can't..... I downloaded vdub and trying to use it to get some frames. However, a pop up error says it can't read XviD files..

If you're using the CCCP, then FFDShow should have a "grab" function you can use, to nab those XVid and DivX format files.

Well the reason why I was able to close her eyes back and not go over the limit is because I first deleted some of your original frames. You look for some frames that won't really make much difference. In this avatar's case, it was like her eyes and slowly raising her head. One little twitch in her eye won't make much difference. Of course I didn't totally reuse all the frames when I closed back her eyes. I like skipped every other frame. If you pay attention, you'll notice that when she closes back her eyes, it's a lot faster than when she opens them. Then I mess around with optimizing and voila! A looped avi that is under 50kb! :)
