Time for a new pic of Kairin...certainly has been a while. I actually wanted to thank toxic_trance for drawing Kairin as a Claymore. Had he not, I probably would have never watched the anime which I can't get enough of. So thanks toxic!

And in addition to that, since I like the anime so much I thought I would do my own version of Kairin as a Claymore. Here she is...but please note it's not in my "usual" style because the cute colorful version of Kairin doesn't fit into the world of Claymore very well. So I had to adapt it to fit it...if that made any sense. :heh:

Also want to say that I haven't read the manga so all I know is what the anime has shown. That being said, I have no doubt that they've already said who No. 8 is in the manga, but I didn't want to make Kairin a non-single digit...she has to be strong!...then again Clare is strong too but...that's not the point. :heh:

Also I had a bit of trouble coming up with her nickname (the kanji in the picture)...I decided to go with "Kairin of the Vicious Mind" which relates to her ability. Kairin uses illusions to help her battle. For example, she can create a duplicate of herself but her power is split 50/50 between her and the illusion. So to counter-act the effect, she can use her yoma ability to get both herself and the illusion copy back to 100% strength. Then they can do like...kick ass combo attacks and such. It all looks so good in my head. :heh:

Anyways, that's all from me.

Btw, I know I ask this everytime but if someone could make me an avatar, I would appreciate it. I've tried myself but I can't seem to get a good crop. Thanks!

Coming to ur art, I can definitely say one thing about that pic...she sure looks vicious alright ...Very apt name and a very different Kairin from the usual. She looks even more dangerous than awakened Priscilla i must say. Great Work..Keep it up ^_^.

That question is a lot less meaningful than I would like. We were only told the number of one class and there is no way to use a single datapoint. Bereft of a second datapoint, let alone a third, there is no point in answering that question for Kairin. Let's not be picky. Though I suppose you really just meant she could be from a different generation than the other characters in the show.

It's nice to see people so involved in what rank and type Kairin could be. Normally I would agree that she could be No. 4 as Ophelia is no more. However it would seem to me that when a lower rank dies, wouldn't the other ones be bumped up? Like 5 becomes 4. 6 becomes 5 etc.

And toxic, you're right. She is an offensive type...but I do like the idea of being able to split into a defensive type as well. But from what I've seen in the anime, defensive types don't seem to have much to offer in battle. They can regen a limb or two but if the person cuts your head off, it's good game. But yeah, it's still a good idea.

Browsing through this thread I noticed someone requesting for someone to color in Helen a while ago. So I decided to do it since I just got a Tablet and I could use some practice with Digital painting. So here it is:

The picture took me about 4 hours to complete. If anyone would like me to color in another Claymore character, I am willing to do one more for further practice.

Nice job :D One hint though ; you might want to try to color the linework (on some parts ( for example on the grey part of her right leg and the lower part of her left leg ) ) since it's a bit 'blocky' on those parts ( which is realy easy if you use a layermask ( asuming you're using photoshop ; not known that well with other graphic programs ( and I just like photoshop :P ) ) )

Working on a Galatea Vector/Vexel myself btw :D

For this picture, I used Photoshop as you guessed. For clear cut CG-like painting, I perfer to use Photoshop, but for more sloppy traditional-like painting I perfer using Corel Painter. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

I use Corel Painter for Inking sometimes since it's easier to fully and freely rotate your canvas there, but appart from that I haven't realy done anything with it.

To use a mask: Asuming you have a layer with the linework; add a new layer just above it. Select the linweork layer. Now press alt and move your mousecursor on the edge of the 2 layers; the mousecursor will change in some sort of basket. Now click; you will see that the new layer with a arrow in front of it. If you collor on the new layer it will only be visible on the parts where the linework layer is colored too.

Hmm come to think of it, I think using masks isn't possible in the above situation as easily as I said since you only CG'ed it and left the original scan ( with a white BG ) in tact. But masking can be usefull in a lot of other situations so I guess my explanation isn't useless ;)

Anyway back on topic to claymore pics I guess :D

Those who only watch the anime should know about Alicia (Miria's presentation of the symbols).
Like Nightbat says, a simple title like "spoiler for events which didn't happened yet" should be all right. If you want to be more precise, I suggest you to put the chapter number which is spoiled.

I didn't look at the pictures but knowing what will happend from the first spoil tag title really kill my fun u_u.

k..double posting...but since its a new work..i had to do it.

Thoughts on the latest work...Well..frankly, i dont think i got Galatea's face right. Somehow i find her the toughest to draw. Maybe its thank to the lack of reference due to the hard disk crash, but hech..thats not the point here. The present work is inspired heavily from one of my favourite fantasy work artist Luis Royo. So this image has Galatea in Semi-nude with an expression very different from her usual confident self

The image you picked to take reference from does not have good shading, nor lighting effects, on the shoulder plate.

I recommend you look at this image for reference:

Shading is all about giving a 3D shape to a given objects, and how you shade it really depends on where the light is comming from. Notice in the picture of Clare, the light is comming from the top left and shining down at her. Thus when you look at her shoulder plate, the upper top most is shining like hell and the shine is more to the left since the light is shining from the left. Now notice how the at the bottom of the shoulder plate it is lightly shaded. The bottom of the shoulder plate is shaded in because it is the farthest point from the light source of that given object. Thus with the shading, it give it a nice round 3D look.

So looking at your image, the light seems to be ccmming from behind Ophelia, slightly above her. So shine up her shoulder plate to the top right while shading in the bottom left of her shoulder plate. This should do the trick. Hope that helps.

k..double posting...but since its a new work..i had to do it.

Thoughts on the latest work...Well..frankly, i dont think i got Galatea's face right. Somehow i find her the toughest to draw. Maybe its thank to the lack of reference due to the hard disk crash, but hech..thats not the point here. The present work is inspired heavily from one of my favourite fantasy work artist Luis Royo. So this image has Galatea in Semi-nude with an expression very different from her usual confident self

Personally I think the cosplayer has to be very tall, lean but not too muscular body and natural light, blonde hair. The problem is the sword.

And I don't think Asian cosplayer can pull it off since Claymore operators resembled a lot like Scandinavian females.

A Scandinavian Female would make a top-notch Galatea. I was thinking the shoulder and hip armor would be more difficult to make than the Claymore's Claymore... Also, do they make silver-eye cosmetic contact lenses?
