This is the thread to discuss the scanlated version of the Claymore manga. The purpose of this thread is to allow discussion of the English translation without worrying about being spoiled by the untranslated raws. I don't if I'm breaking any rules, but volume 8 has been translated, I'm not going to say who or where to get it, just letting people know it's out there.

Anyway one small question, because Clare is 1/4 youma rather than 1/2 does that mean she has normal sexual organs that won't creep out people.
Reason I want to know is because in volume 8 Clare takes back considering Raki as being a brother to a loved one which had a big emphasis. Leading me to thinking there might be some form of romance going on here. As much as that might sound weird... :naughty::heh:

No, I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that she is 1/4 yoma. As we have seen, most claymore are more than just tools that work for the organization. They have their own feelings and desire, very much like everyone else. So from my point of view, I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that she is 1/4 yoma.

Despite Clare being 1/4 Yoma she did go through the same surgeory as other Claymores, check back at volume 1 and Rubel's comment. It heavily implies that the front side of Claymores is not something enjoyable to look at. :(
Although it have never been stated that Claymore's sexual organs do not work properly.

That was my original interpretation as well. But then remember Clare said that he was not his brother, and something more. If she just thought of him more as a family member, the description of a brother would fit just fine.

Whatever the real feelings Clare has for Raki that is for me still unsure it could go either way as it stands currently. However we should not forget the fact that after the time-shift happening after the N-Campaign chapters. We haven't seen Raki yet and he is probably now an young adult male. So a more romantic development can't be ruled out entirely.

BUT I DO know for sure that the already considerable HATRED for Raki will probably reach new heights when the anime catches up to the mentioned manga volumes.

The poor guy is now already on some of the other forums and blogs top ranked as the most annoying char/sidekick of the new anime season...

A dubious honour.. and to be honest not really fair for him since without his deep bond with Clare. She would most likely already be dead or even worse a gut eating 'awakened being'.

I think a lot of guys (I assume most of them are guys) are seeing him sub-consious as a kind of threat for their idolisation of Clare.

But that is just my humble opinion.

Well, I'll be honest and say that I can see reasons why some people find Raki semi-annoying, but he gets extra shaft for it because he's male. It happens.

Raki's shown in better light following the Theresa flashback, and while he's far from the brightest bulb of a weak sidekick character, I don't think he's bad. He's a representation of attachment similarly to how Clare was to Theresa, but at the same time, he's different.

I saw that as more of a way for Clare to get Raki to listen (would sure work on any of us here) :D
Their is also the fact that, at the time, Raki is quite young , although that is not to say when Raki is older their relationship can develop that way. :p
I would not be suprised at all though if they headed that direction later on.

As for people not liking Raki in the anime so far, hopefully they grow more attached to him after the Teresa arc, especially when it comes to Ophelia ;)

I actually like Manga Raki, at the least i didn't dislike him. But something about the anime ver of Raki makes me want to strangle him :heh:

And yeah actually fully understanding what is spoken is makes this kickass series a tenfold better.

I just read volume 9, and I have to say that this manga has turned into my favorite.

Ok, first of all how does Raki get himself captured by freaking slave traders. Seriously, that is the most pathetic thing to happen, he is away from Clare for a few days and he gets himself caught. I bet he feels like a douche... :heh: Though, I am a Raki fan cause I totally believe he's going to become a successful male claymore and die as a tragic hero.

Anyway, does anyone want to speculate which is more important to Clare right now. She specifically says that she has one thing that is more important to her than anything else. Is it Raki's wellbeing or her vengeance on Priscella? In terms of her actions, I think her motivation towards killing Priscella is greater, but her mindset seems to be constantly on Raki. Could this turn into a huge dilemma for Clare? Maybe she might have to choose between saving Raki from his own death or getting the chance to kill the one person/monster who was the reason for her being a claymore in the first place. Anyone disagree?

Argh , its far too difficult to stop once I start reading 8, volume 7's cliffhanger was tolerable but 8's ante up the plot too much for me to ignore 9 and I'm guessing it goes downhill from there.


One thing that confused me was when Clare nearly awakened when she saved Galatea. One moment she was turning into a monster and then the next she was back to normal. I thought it was through her effort to suppress her powers yet her first reaction was that of surprise. So does that mean that she reverts back automatically? Or was that Galatea helping her since she said she was just testing Clare?

I have decided that this thread is not the best solution to the situation of scanlations existing between the Viz releases and the most recent chapters. While it is true that these scanlations complicate the issue, I am going to ask that all scanlation discussion continue in the Claymore Manga - Japanese Version thread. If discussions of these chapters are posted in the wrong thread they will be treated as spoilers and not even spoiler tags will save you.

You'll just have to cope with the presence of spoilers from chapters in advance of the scanlations. It shouldn't be too much inconvenience in light of how quickly these scanlations are proceeding. It will probably not be long until the raw and the translation are released within quick succession. At that time the inconvenience will vanish.

In several days these posts will be merged into the Claymore Manga - Japanese Version thread and I'll remove all traces that this thread ever existed.
