MCR is quite far from emo, or at least good emo. Emo has not been good since the early 90's.
MCR has some catchy songs, but over all I am not a fan of theirs.

Rebecca_Chambers: Is MCR = My Chemical Romance? If so, then you should to edit your first post so people can understand more easily :)
I only know one song from that band ("I don't love you") and I love it, plus the video clip is nice :D

The Black Parade album is very easily considered emo.
Their earlier ones really aren't as they are mostly screamo.
Personally I hate all of the Black Parade...but their older albums are cool.

The Black Parade is a concept album full of emotion, but is by no means Emo. If you want to hear real emo, listen to Texas Is The Reason, Cap'n Jazz, The Promise Ring, Sunny Day Real Estate, etc. All are exceptional bands and sound nothing like the bands classified as emo these days.

Meh, they're kind of...okay I guess. I think the song "Dead!" is great, but I can quite honestly say I would never buy an album.

Inu- it depends on how you classify emo.
I classify it as music where the bands wear tight pants and shirts and they all have long black hair that covers half their face.
What the band actually plays makes little difference, since their look usually reflects what they play anyways.
Yes that sounds stupid as hell, but that's how I define emo music.

I'll have to agree, that does sound pretty stupid. The way a band looks should not have any bearing on what genre they are classified as. It should all depend on the most important part of music, the sound.

Well, how many metal bands have you seen wearing something like what Justin Timberlake wears?
When have you seen a punk band like Bowling for soup wear girl pants and eyeliner?
How many pop singers have you seen wearing all black and having metal-band hair?
So, IMO, the way bands dress reflects what they play 99.9% of the time.
Regardless of my definition of emo, the definition of emo has indeed changed. It's no longer the bands you've listed...it's now comprised of whiny boys that look like girls.

Hmmm. I don't like to admit it but I'm a fan of MCR very much.
I won't consider a band emo until I actually see them. or I see many a popular emo kids who are huge fans of that band. But that's only because I'm easily swayed like that.

As stupid as that is, it is becoming true these days. Most bands do indeed dress the stereotypical way others in their genre do. However there are still plenty of bands out there in every genre that dress how they want to dress, not how they are expected to dress.
I'd also have to agree with you that emo is indeed being shaped into what people see it as now. This shift saddens me greatly, as it was originally such a great thing, but not anymore.

My Chemical Romance is not emo at all, apparently, according to Gerard Way. Here's what he says:
“Basically, it's never been accurate to describe us. Emo bands were being booked while we were touring with Christian metal bands because no one would book us on tours.
I think emo is fucking garbage, it's bullshit. I think there's bands that unfortunately we get lumped in with that are considered emo and by default that starts to make us emo.”
He finished to student website The Maine Campus: “All I can say is anyone actually listening to the records put the records next to each other and listen to them and there's actually no similarities. I think emo's a pile of shit.”
That statement has pretty much shattered the beliefs of many prepubescent males.

How will he explain this, though?

Long black hair- check
tight pants on most members- check
dude with those thick rim glasses- check
studded belts- check
eyeliner (maybe not in this picture, but check him out in the video for Helena....)- check
emo swoop hairstlye (dude not in black)- check
They at least fit the bill for DRESSING like emos....except the dude with the fro. Having a fro pretty much exempts you from being emo :D.
Marilyn manson wrote a song about them named "Mutilation is the best form of flattery". The lyrics fit MCR pretty well.

Too bad I would rather listen to MCR than his garbage.
Or better yet, watch a kitten die.
He's not in much of a position to say bad things about other music.
I'll just say their music is catchy, but their lyrical subject matter and audience aren't my favorite. Instrumentally, they aren't half bad at all.

Who cares about their looks. Their music is not emo and I don't think they look like emos at all. Anyway, a lot of emo bands that I listen to don't even look like emos... The look doesn't mean a thing...

Well thx I was going to ask you for groups you listen to but i'm quite curious about old emo music. I never listened to.

I approve of this post and its truthiness.
MCR were a surprise hit for me. Not so much a fan of their first album but I absolutely <3 their latest one. Unfortunately it seems MCR is the latest fad-bashing band, just like Greenday was a couple years back. I find that most of the people that hate MCR don't even tend to listen to their music and judge them based on their looks or from what they've heard from others.

I donno if they are emo or not, idc. I like 2 of their songs, Mama and Famous last words. Dont like their words but i like the rhythm....
id nvr think they are emo..
jeans normaly are tight fitting :S
they are a band from my country. grunge dress look is in fashion here lol
they are going to dress in certain ways to depict their songs trhough videos so i wouldnt use that as any form of judgement...

That last sentence made no sense....
First off, jeans can be baggy, and there is a big difference between quasi tight fitting jeans and skin tight jeans...and typically emo people like to walk on the skin tight side of things.
Also, MCR is from the USA...I am from the USA....I know fashion in the USA...grunge dress isn't uncommon, but it isn't THE popular thing. From what I can tell, there is no standout style for people to wear in the USA....so that was a pretty off base comment to make, IMO.
Regardless, it's not like I think that dressing akin to what your music sounds like is a bad idea. I think MCR dressing this way is better than them dressing like Soulja Boy, for example....and I think Soulja Boy dressing how he does is better than him dressing all emo.
You pretty much do need to fit the bill, otherwise it's harder to take your band seriously.
Regardless, fans think MCR isn't emo, and non fans think they are emo....I guess there's no agreeing on it.

Generic
Annoying
Untalented
Overrated

Meh, their music is okay at best, it's the large majority of their fans I come into contact to outside which irks me.

I agree with you, within a couple of years you'll stop hearing from them and the 'fans' will move onto their next crush..
their music is just too annoying and attention driven...
I saw them live on a festival and they sucked.. heck it was also 10 in the morning and I was still hammered from the night before

Why would you do that...thats just stupid. Nevertheless, My Chemical Romance is overrated. You know the fans are idiots when its 100 Degrees outside at Warped Tour and they are wearing MCR! Hoodies. If that didn't prove stupidity I dont know what will.:p
Man. The sub forum descriptions are annoying and misleading.
Welcome to the Black Parade is okay I guess. I don't really listen to them very much.

Because I have an overwhelming urge to let everyone know that their tastes in everything sucks.
I remember some song I listened to either over the radio or over somebody else's speakers and liked it. I then figuratively went very white when a friend informed me that it's My Chemical Romance.
Their songs sound alright and all, but the people I know who are fans to them are outright annoying.
