I wonder if you've seen this yet. They list their Top 20 by voting and by time period (Red - 1980s, Blue - 1990s, Green - 2000s).

How many do you know?

what anime is that on the #10 spot for 1999?

Turn A Gundam 2nd ending "Tsuki no Mayu"

One of my favorite songs ever.

Oh wow, seeing the Infinite Ryvius OP ranked so highly, is cool. One of my favorites :D

Number 1 for 90s was predictable, but I didnt see the #1 for 2000s coming at all heh.

Wow....like...do people not know what good music is?

Or do they only care about the anime? Because after watching that...like only 5 songs were good. The rest weren't as good....

It's probably the nostalgia. I mean...I find the Digimon OP to be average, but it brings back soooo many memories. I loved it when I heard it again.

Wow, that's quite an achievement...
...less than 5 good songs out of 60. :heh:

And I can't believe the Cowboy Bebop OP and the Higurashi OP weren't in there, that's seriously fucked up.

That was quite a trip down memory lane. I must be an old fart if I recall the heady days when episodes of Cowboy Bebop were being distributed on VHS fansubs, anime clubs gathered to binge watch Card Captor Sakura and Evangelion defined anime :P

I think it's likely that most of the voters of the poll are in their late 20s and prefer to watch Gundam or mecha.

But #1 for 2000s was a pleasant surprise!

Yeah... most songs are crap. I only liked about 11 songs. For some reason the Gundam ones being the best, regardless of age o_o. But seriously wtf @ the top 3 for 80's and 90's.

W00t! I saw Purichina, Tune the rainbow and hemisphere

Kanno Yoko-Sakamoto Maaya pairing ftw!

Reeeally not the greatest selection of songs. I can't believe "God Knows" was so low on that list, especially considering what beat it. I mean... wow. I'm glad to see "Tori no Uta" almost got first though. :D

Yeah... I'd say the majority of the voters had a mecha bias, and/or simply voted the OP/ED for their favorite anime without much regard to the song itself. There were a lot of songs that I expected to be on there, like the Cowboy Bebop OP. Much different tastes I guess. Still a dismal selection...

And this is the first time I've heard the Japanese Digimon OP. Catchy.

Considering my general expectations of 2ch-er's tastes, I don't think they've done too badly here. A few really good songs on this list, and quite a few nostalgia-sparkers. Recognized almost all of the 00s, a few of the 90s, but was completely lost with the 80s. Maison Ikkoku OP was one of the very few I recognized from there.

I'd forgotten how good music from RahXephon was. Didn't much like the anime, but there's no denying it had a killer soundtrack.

the higher than numbers go the worse the songs get on the whole. #3 gundam seed? thats just BS.

other than digimon, #2 spots were seemed very accurate.

but number 1 spot? the original gundam song? eh, fanboys.
next evangelion, well it should have been expected.
and lastly... Aquarion??? R U SHUR.

something TELLS me suiseiseki has been spamming fake votes again.

I agree. God knows at #20... the Live version of this song blows the recorded one away. Although there are some catchy songs from the past with all that trumpet blowing.... lmfao

And wow, as I'm watching this, there's a TON of gundam songs..!!

edit:

Ok well, I just finished the video, and I gotta say, the AIR OP definitely beats the shit out of the #1 song. I like NGE, but I'm just not a fan of their songs. There are indeed other songs that I would have liked to see in there, but I guess people have quite different tastes....

WTF@ #1 songs. o.O
Okay, so EVA and Gundam is understandable, considering EVA did make tsunami-class waves back when it was airing. Gundam is, well, Gundam. But Aquarion?
And the RM songs. I like RM, but I don't think the OP songs are that good. If I was to vote a song for RM, I'd cast it to RMT ED, Hikari no Rasenritsu. =.=
At least the Nanoha faction have enough ears to know that Innocent Starter is better than Eternal Blaze.

At least Tori no Uta almost clinched top spot. And Give a Reason up there makes me yay~

If you have an hour to spare, they have Top 200 in here. You'd probably find this ranking a bit less WTF. Yes, Higurashi is in there along with (I didn't count) at least 30 mecha songs. It totally explains why I got so sick of mecha I avoid them like the plague.

Top 200-100: http://www.nicovideo.jp/video/player/sm352330
Top 100 - 1: http://www.nicovideo.jp/video/player/sm342212

But yes, I'm quite surprised at how current anime fared.

Oh My God I know all these 80's and 90's songs and frequently listen to them (Even moreso recentely which is kind of freaky, but then I remember my clairvoyancy and thought channeling ability). I can help a hell of a lot with these by the way (All of these are personal opinion by the way and the parts about my respect for Japanese music are strictly from my point of view only):

1980's:

#20 Ai Wo Tormodose Opening from Hokuto No Ken (Awesome song)
#19 In Search of Lost Legends Opening from Genesis Climber Mospeada (I actually have the first stanza of the lyrics from this song as my MSN handle at this very moment)
#18 Honoo No Sadame Opening from Armored Trooper Votoms (Another favourite, my respect for 2channel is starting to go up a bit with this video).
#17 Megurai Ending from Mobile Suit Gundam III Encounters In Space (One of the better Original Gundam vocal songs, even if it is kind of cheesy).
#16 Chala-Head-Chala Opening 1 from Dragon Ball Z (This is actually surprisingly low on the ranking list for such a popular series)
#15 I don't even recognize this show. Songs good though.
#14 No idea what this is but it sounds good.
#13 Cosmos Ni Kimi To Ending from Densetsu Kyojin Ideon (Personal Favourite and damn good choice)
#12 Beyond The Time Ending from Char's Counterattack (Legendary Song, cannot even sing enough praise for this one)
#11 Get Wild Ending from City Hunter 1(Fantastic Song, but I prefer the opening even more. I'm typing this as I watch so maybe it will indeed show up)
#10 No Idea, but it's good
#09 Filling The Star of Water With Love Opening 2 from Zeta Gundam (Approaching levels of overwhelming orgasmic pleasure :D)
#08 No idea but its good again.
#07 Pegasus Fantasy Opening From Saint Seiya (Legendary Song! Personal Favourite. No surprise about it's place)
#06 Some Dragon Quest song. No surprise here.
#05 Melos No Youni Lonely Way Opening from Aoki Ryusei Super Powered Tracer Layzner (They left out the best parts of the song.
"sora ni aoi ryuusei
yoru no unga o suberu you da ne futari BIRU no mado kara
tooku no machi o sagashite ita yo
kanashii hitomi de ai o semenai de
nani mo iwazu ni yukasete hoshii
hosoi sono kata o sotto dakishimete
namida KISU de futta"
This song is so good its almost impossible to comprehend. It's probably in my Top 10 all time favourite anime songs. Anyway....)
#04 No Idea but its damn good.
#03 Yume Iro Chaser Opening 1 from Dragonar (OH MY GOD! One of my Top 10 all times again. I'm almost in ecstasy here. This is like a personal victory for me over what I see as bad Japanese music and its 2channel of all places that's delivering)
#02 Do You Remember Love Insert from Macross Movie of Same Name (LEGENDARY SONG! Also a Top 10 all time favourite. Go 2channel win my respect)
#01 Ai Senshi Ending from Mobile Suit Gundam II Soldiers of Sorrow (Legendary Song!)

1990's:

#20 Stand Up To The Victory Opening 1 from Victory Gundam (One of the best Gundam songs I've been listening to a lot recently)
#19 Dreams Opening 1 from Gundam X (Okay this is just too freaky as I've recently started listening to this again recently and suddenly its a 2chan favourite, what the Mind Taking)
#18 In My Dream Opening from Brain Powerd (ANOTHER GREAT SONG!)
#17 You Get to Burning Opening from Martian Successor Nadesico (Classic)
#16 Shine Through The Storm Opening from The 08th MS Team (I actually prefer the ending to this series more than the opening, but the opening is still damn good)
#15 Wild Flowers Opening from Zoids (This sounds pretty bad I've gotta say)
#14 Kum Susser Tod Insert from End of Evangelion (Better than Cruel Angel Thesis but not as good as Tamashii No Refrain in my opinion)
#13 Dream Shift Opening from Zettai Muteki Raijin-Oh (Another personal favourite. My recently trashed respect for Japan's taste in music is renewing itself from the ashes, the same day it crashed it burned.)
#12 Tamashii no Refrain Insert from Evangelion Death and Rebirth (And there it is ranked above Kum Susser Tod where I feel it belongs. Not to say Kum Susser Tod is bad, just not as good)
#11 Whatever it is it sucks.
#10 Tsuki No Mayu Ending 2 from Turn A Gundam (Unbelievably Orgasmically good Gundam Ending Theme. Probably the best Gundam Ending ever)
#09 Something Revolution Opening from Revolutionary Girl Utena (I guess).
#08 Yuusha Ou Tanjou Opening from King Of Braves GaoGaiGar (Respect for Japanese people's taste all but renewed completely. Personal fave by the way. :D)
#07 Yuzurenai Negai Opening from Magic Knight Rayearth (Never heard it before but it's pretty good)
#06 Sounds awful whatever it is.
#05 Platinum Opening 3 from Cardcaptor Sakura (Am I dreaming or are all my personal favourites 2channel favourites. They had so many good songs to pick from yet they picked my personal favourite CCS song. Uncanny!)
#04 Give A Reason Opening from Slayers Next (I'm calling mind taking on 2channel as they have tons of Slayers songs to choose, yet they just happen to pick my favourite. One of the few Megumi Hayashibara songs I like and one of like 2 I adore.)
#03 No idea but it's alright
#02 Butterfly Opening from Digimon (One of the all time surprise good songs from the 90's)
#01 Cruel Angel Thesis Opening from Evangelion (Probably the weakest Evangelion song for me. I would have ranked it much lower, but that doesn't mean its bad).
2000's:

#20 God Knows Insert Song from Haruhi (It is the best song from Haruhi I think, but it probably doesn't deserve much higher than this)
#19 Reckless Fire from Scryed (I'm going by the Katakana as I have no idea on this one)
#18 Kinjirareta Asobi Opening from Rozen Maiden (One of the better songs I've heard from the 21st century)
#17 Hare Hare Yukai (Honestly about where I would put it, not bad, but not as great to me as it is to others. Is it just me or are the Haruhi song samples longer than others.)
#16 Nowhere from Madlax (apparently, I honestly haven't the foggiest)
#15 Hemisphere Opening from Rahxephon (Fantastic example from the 21st century)
#14 Love Destiny Opening from Something (How this ranks above Hemisphere I'm not sure)
#13 Eternal Blaze Opening from Nanoha A's (Better than most 21st century openings, which aren't really my taste compares to the 80's and 90's, but I prefer the Nanoha proper opening.)
#12 Hishoku no Sora Opening from Shakugan No Shana (We're getting closer and closer to my acquired taste from the 21st century. Still though what's up with Hemisphere in #15.)
#11 Two bad one's in a row, this isn't looking good.
#10 Shangrila Opening from Soukyuu no Fafner (I always found this song incredibly annoying and unpleasant)
#09 Over! Opening from Overman King Gainer (Probably my favourite 21st Century Anime song. Curious to see what tops it)
#08 Shooting Star Opening from Onegai Teacher (EWWWWWWWWWW! This topped King Gainer. Respect falling a bit)
#07 Innocent Starter Opening from Nanoha (Ah and there it is, the much better Nanoha Proper opening. One of the better songs of the 21st Century. Very dramatic)
#06 Kinjirareta Asobi Opening from Rozen Maiden Traumend (You know I love Ali Project's funky music. One of the best bands of the 21st century)
#05 Negima song (Meh. Like I said they've pretty much already covered all my favourite 2000 opening songs unless I'm missing something. Apparently my taste diverges from 2channel in this millenium a bit.)
#04 Tune The Rainbow Insert from Rahxephon (So that's what they were waiting for all this time. I actually haven't heard this one yet, but I'm not surprised it's up here because its great)
#03 This song blows. Good lord! Oh well we're getting a lot of good hits here still.
#02 Tori no Uta Opening From Air (Surprisingly Decent theme song from an anime I would avoid like the plague. Probably the only good part of Key for me is their music. Does it belong up here though, in this posters opinion....I guess, I mean for the 2000's I probably couldn't give a much better list given with how few things I have to work with in the 21st century.)
#01 Sousei no Aquarion Opening (What a terrible choice for spot #1. The first time I heard it felt like I was listening to one of the worst songs I'd ever heard. After trying again it wasn't as bad, but it's still pretty bad compared to some of the other choices they could have had for the 21st centuy. I guess my tastes really do diverge from them quite a bit in this millenium.

So my taste is surprisingly similar to 2channels up until the 21st century where its hit or miss. I've got to wonder what the hell they are thinking though with the awful song in spot #1 for the 2000s. Despite this they are far more in sync with me than out of it and I've gained a little bit of respect for 2channel that I wouldn't normally have. I just have to still question there tastes for the 21st century is all. The only songs I really liked on the 2000 list where Over!, Innocent Starter, The Rozen Maiden one's and the Rahxephon ones.

As for peoples dislike of the ones that aren't Kyoto Animation ones or aren't from 2000, Come On People, the 80's and 90's are entirely different eras altogether. Don't blame the era if you don't like the song. Learn a bit about the 80's and 90's, then maybe learn the names of the songs and then come back and describe exactly what is wrong with them. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the 5 "good" (as if there is some universal qualifier for good beyond ones opinion) songs people keep mentioning are God Knows, Hare Hare Yukai, Tori No Uta, Shooting Star and Innocent Starter, which I think are alright songs.

Either way I'm anticipitating a fair bit of whining regarding the Haruhi songs low placing and the fact that the Air theme didn't place in #1 for 2000's and the Haruhi songs in the #2 and #3 slots (Pro KyoAni Bias in a bit of the commentary maybe?). Fair enough as those songs are popular with a lot of people, but what do people have to say about the 80's and 90's rankings. What do they think could have been done better, because people mostly seem upset by the fact that those decades are dominated by Mecha anime songs (I detect an Anti-Mecha Bias almost, getting upset because one thinks Mecha songs can't be liked a fair number of people. The bias thing can work both ways after all). I'm not saying anybody should do a detailed opinion piece like I have, but does nobody care to chime in on exactly why they felt there were only 5-10 good songs (maybe name them) on the list or on what should have been there (from your favourites). It sure beats just beating on 2channel's list (I still can't believe I'm siding with 2channel) without any apparent justification or opinion to back it up. Nobody's going to shoot anybody down for stating why they didn't like the list (It's bound to happen that people will have different tastes).

Also since I'm a masochist I'm going to come back and do a piece on all 200 of the Top 200 songs tomorrow if I can.
Top 100-1

#100 Toki Wo Koete Opening 1 From Zeta Gundam (A personal Favourite of course)
#99 Clover opening from Solty Rei (I've been meaning to watch this show actually, but I'll probably skip over this opening)
#98 Some Ali Project Song (I like Ali Project, what can I say)
#97 No idea and it's kind of meh.
#96 1st Prioity Opening Strasphore (Kind of cutesy)
#95 Silent Voice 2nd Opeing from Double Zeta Gundam (Like the only good song from ZZ Gundam, but not one of my favourite Gundam songs)
#94 No Idea (Sounds nice though)
#93 No Idea (Sounds decently hot blooded though)
#92 Saint Shinwa ~Soldier Dream~ Opening 2 from Sainy Seiya (Wow this is just as good as Pegasus Fantasy and it's by Kageyama Hironobu one of my all time favourite Anime Song singers)
#91 Romantic Ageruyo Ending from Dragon Ball (Classic song that I always kind of liked)
#90 Taiyou ga Mata Kagayaku Toki Ending 4 from Yu Yu Hakusho (I prefered the endings that came before this, but it's still pretty good)
#89 Fuse of Excitement Ending 1 from Fushigi Yugi (I need to acquire this one, it's quite good)
#88 Eternal Wind Ending from Gundam F91 (I wasn't even looking at the video and I knew this one instantly. Personal Favourite and the best song so far in my opinion)
#87 Some Doraemon song.
#86 Heats Opening 2 from Shin Getter Robo Armageddon (Crazy hot blooded song glad to see it here)
#85 Dunbine Tobu Opening from Aura Battler Dunbine (Again wasn't even looking at the vid and knew it within the first two seconds. Personal Favourite, but a lower ranked one at that.)
#84 Galaxy Express 999 (I prefer the movie theme and the new Galaxy Railways themes)
#83 Rumbling Hearts (Not particularly impressed with it)
#82 Just Communication Opening 1 from New Mobile Report Gundam Wing (As much as Gundam Wing is not a very good Gundam Series let alone a good mecha series, I've gotta give props to the music)
#81 Ai Wo Tormodose Opening from Hokuto No Ken (You Again. Oh well your always welcome come onto my speakers....ewwwww.)
#80 Uchuu Senkan Yamato (Legendary Song!)
#79 Agony Opening from Kannaduki No Miko (It's alright)
#78 Some Hype Cutesy Song (Not bad)
#77 Until the World Comes to an End Ending 2 from Slam Dunk (It's alright I guess. Pretty hot blooded)
#76 In Search of Lost Legends Opening from Genesis Climber Mospeada (I could very well have been listening to the full version)
#75 Some Not To Bad Song
#74 Honoo No Sadame Opening from Armored Trooper Votoms (Same deal as with #76).
#73 Heart of Sword - Yoake Mae Ending 3 from Rurouni Kenshin (My respect for T.M Revolution continues to grow)
#72 Resolution Opening 2 from Gundam X (Personal Favourite)

#68 Megurai Ending from Mobile Suit Gundam III Encounters In Space (Classic Cheesy song)
#67 It looks like a Tezuka (Possibly Ambassador Magma)

#65 Brilliant Road Opening from Stellvia of Universe (Not bad)
#64 Generic Harem Opening Number Sixty Four (Bleh!)
#63 Musouka Opening from Uta (I honestly had no idea the Utawarerumono opening sounded this good. You learn something new every day.)
#62 Chala Head Chala (No Intro needed)
#61 I think this is Maison Ikkoku (It's good)
#60 Duvet Opening from Serial Experiments Lain (Meh)
#59 Yaksoku Wa Iranai Opening from Tenkuu No Escaflowne (Whoa Way too Soon! WAY TOO SOON! What beats this so early on in the Top 100 list. I'm kind of scared :uhoh:)
#58 Blue Water (Wow this is Good. Never seen Blue Water, but I really like the song)
#57 Lots of Cute Girls Kotoko Song (I usually don't like Kotoko at all, but this is alright. Kind of curious to know what the anime is. Info would be appreciated)
#56 No Clue (Meh)
#55 Stand Up To The Victory Opening 1 from Victory Gundam (Could hear this so many times and it would never get old)
#54 Inner Universe Opening from Ghost In Shell Stand Alone Complex (Noise)
#53 God Knows Insert from Haruhi (Apparently better than Stand Up To The Victory)
#52 Dreams Opening 1 from Gundam X (But Apparently this is better than God Knows. That's the trick with these lists. Either way not disagreeing with this, but I'm sure a lot of people will be upset that a Good Gundam song beat out the Good Haruhi song)
#51 This Again (Still no Idea)
#50 No Clue (It's good though)
#49 In My Dream Brain Powered Opening (Shame on you Brain Powered you got me in trouble with the mods today. Oh come here I love you In My Dream)

#09 Ai Senshi Ending from Mobile Suit Gundam II Soldiers of Sorrow (Ha Ha My...*Pummelled again*)
#08 Crappy Gundam Seed Song
#07 Platinum Opening 03 from Card Captor Sakura (I'm getting goosebumps listening to this song. Good placement, though my list looks a bit different, this song places in the top 20 regardless. First stellar song in the top 10.)
#06 Give A Reason Opening from Slayers Next (Alright if you must, could be a worse choice. Still a Favourite Song)
#05 What is this
#04 Tori No Uta from Air (Uh Oh, there's going to be a hellstorm now that this didn't make top spot. I personally don't think it belongs in the Top 10, Top 20 or even Top 100, but there are far worse choices)
#03 Butterfly Opening from Digimon (Like this one. I like the song, but come on, it's not that good)
#02 Sousei No Aquarion (What is Japan's obsession with this horrible hideous song. I mean good this has to be a spam voting joke or something)
#01 Cruel Angel Thesis Opening from Evangelion (REALLY! I would have put this in slot 50 probably, but at least it has the distinction fo being the song to beat the wretched Sousei No Aquarion one)

So that's that. If anyone want's to do a spot on the 200-101 songs, be my guest. Overall the screwiest parts come in the ending where there are songs that I feel don't even belong on the chart at all. Specifically that Sousei No Aquarion song. It's tricky to order these things around, but I'd definetely have Tori No Uta and Butterfly in the 200-101 parts and if necessary the #05 one as well. The Gundam Seed One and the Sousei No Aquarion one however shouldn't even be listed. Personally out of the Top 10 the only one I think that is deserving of the Top Slot is Platinum from CCS (Even the Rahxephon one doesn't beat it, maybe if it were Hemisphere they could duel, but with Tune The Rainbow it's Platinum. No Contest). I wouldn't dispute it as again these things are tricky and I have like almost 20 songs I could easily put in to my #01 slot at any given time depending on my current mood.

This man is passionate about his anime music. :D And Now, To Bed.

To the previous poser: impressive listing of the songs there.

As for #15 from the 1980s, it's the last OP to Maison Ikkoku (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maison_Ikkoku), one of my favorite series from the era.

I thought it might have been Maison Ikkoku so I guessed at it in my added piece on the Top 100-1 (of which the Top 10 are especially controversial, specifically the top 5). For one I think that people will have a canary that the Air song is in #4 (Which I find to be extremely generous, but not quite as generous as the rest of the Top 5 although still more generous than for Cruel Angel Thesis if both were to be ranked back further [I just know somebodies going to be reading that last sentence on generousity and going "What the hell is he trying to say with the overlapping double negative?!") and for two I think that all of the Top 5 songs aren't that great. At least Cruel Angel Thesis (Known as a Ruddy Mecha Opening to some) beat out that other Mecha Opening in #2 (Known to me as God Awful). Seriously though, give it to Platinum 2channel. I feel the song blows away all the other top ten songs (and this is coming from a huge mecha fan who is seeing a mecha song in the top spot that he happens to like, but denying its right to be there in favour of a song from a Shoujo anime [which he also happens to like even if its from a genre he normally doesn't prefer]).

Still, I bet a lot of mecha haters are cheesed that 5 of the top 10 songs are from mecha series. I have one thing to say to that. You guys lack the Soul of A Robot! :p :joke:

Am I the only one of opinion who likes this list?

I mean some of the mentions really are my favourites but I doubted ever making this. Mainly Gundam X Dreams, No.11 of the 90's WILL from Senkaiden Houshin Engi was a massively pleasant surprise.

Having Akatsuki no Kuruma as the 2000's No.3 was another nice one, I was almost expecting one of the openings. But that was a really nice entry from SEED.

Only real wtf is the 2000 #1, Aquarion opening wasn't bad but really either they have strange tastes or there was a mean joke played.

But seriously theres some unnecessary mecha hatred bias I notice.

No sir, you aren't. I respect the list, but I think others don't. I also think mecha carries a stigma ever since Gundam Seed Destiny of being shallow and full of mindless action (same goes for mecha openings). I'm hoping the new Macross can change that. The crazy thing is of the songs listed 31 are among my favourites and the others barring maybe 3 are alright to alright to tolerable. I was expecting loads of cheesy harem opening from 2channel, but they actually surprised me with their love of what I think a carefully composed and well sung songs. Not only that, but they took the time to subdivide the list in decades out of regard for the totally different and incomparable styles of the era (After the Top 200 list that is). For that I wish I could give 2channel positive rep. :D

Just from the top of my head:

#57 Kannazuki no Miko OP "Re-sublimity" by Kotoko

#56 Record of Lodoss War ED (Not Yoko Kanno or Maaya Sakamoto's best, but I personally liked it for quite some time)

#26 "Kimi o Nosete" or the ED theme from Miyazaki's 'Laputa: Castle in the Sky' - Definitely one of my all-time favorite song and Azumi Inoue's work with Studio Ghibli. Surprised that nothing from Totoro showed up (but that's probably due to demographics)

#25 Fruits Basket OP, written and sung by the late Ritsuko Okazaki. A beautiful piece.

I thought both Zgundam songs might have made it, and I was surprised not to see Lgaim intros.

200-101:

#200 Sentimental Opening from Midori No Hibi (I kind of like CooRie's soft touch for light hearted Romantic Comedy rather than the usual loud wailing. Not bad.)
#199 No Idea (but it's alright)
#198 Himitsu Kichi Ending 1 from Eureka Seven (Okay first of all they have it mislabelled as the ED2. This is sort of true in that it plays at the end of episode 26, but it's still the first ending really. Secondly Personal Favourite)
#197 No Idea (meh)
#196 The Time I'm Seeing You Insert from Gundam F91 (Such a catchy song that can be listened to over and over and a Personal Favourite)
#195 Bouken Desho Desho Opening from Haruhi (The pretty good opening from Haruhi that surprised me and probably everybody. The fact it's ranked low is bound to cause outrage for some though. I'm quite amused by the picture they've got going here too)
#194 Shippu Xabungle Opening from Sentou Mecha Xabungle (Catchy and quirky opening song that I really like)
#193 Mazinger Z Opening (Like the only Toei Douga mecha opening I actually like)
#192 Akusoku No Basho E Opening 2 from Kaleido Star (This one I wasn't sure what it was until I looked at the Katakana and recognized the girls. I've always intended to watch this show. Not to bad a song either)
#191 Moochido Tenderness Ending 2 from Victory Gundam (Crazy Dramatic song from Victory Gundam that comes at the end of the episode [of course]. I prefer this to the first ending)
#190 Berserk Forces Insert from Berserk (My friend likes this song and usually that means the song is slow boring and kind of annoying. Yep.)
#189 Melissa Opening from Fullmetal Alchemist (Honestly this is my least favourite song from FMA. It's honestly not that good at all in my opinion, especially when compared with the other Openings, specifically the 4th one)
#188 No Idea (It's a really relaxing tune though)
#187 Lupin The Third Opening (Ah campy 60's music :D)
#186 Anna ni Isshodattanoni Ending 1 from Gundam Seed (I can honestly never remember the spelling of this song name. It's that confusing. I remember seeing the end of episode 1 for the first time and loving the way it segued into this song after Kira and Athrun discovered each others identity on the battlefield. A Great example of what the 2000's are capable of and one of the last 7 or so good Gundam songs)
#185 Brave Phoenix Insert from Nanoha A's (Good example again of the 2000's, really nice song that actually gets the blood boiling)
#184 Flying In The Sky Opening from Mobile Fighter God Gundam (Not a favourite Gundam Song. I strongly prefer the second opening and don't really care for this one at all)
#183 Ginga Senpuu Braiger Opening (Crazy catchy song.
J9 J9 nasake muyou
ASUTEROIDO BERUTO no
ARUTOROO mo furuedasu
KOZUMO RENJAA J9
*Descend into funk*)
#182 No idea (It's alright though)
#181 1/3 no Junjou na Kanjou Ending 6 from Rurouni Kenshin (Big Meh Here)
#180 No Idea (Meh)
#179 No Idea (Crazy awesome sounding song though)
#178 No Idea (Great sounding song though)
#177 Metamorphose from something (Getting confused, Cute girl though and surprisingly catchy song)
#176 Cross Fight Opening from Haja Daisei Dangaioh (I love this song! Personal Favourite. You need the Soul of A Robot to enjoy it though I would imagine)
#175 No Idea (That's girls purple . Meh song)
#174 Sherlock Hound Opening (Some kids song. Not really my taste)
#173 The Crimson Fang Opening from Gravion Zwei (Jam Project doing a hot blooded opening to a mecha series...par for the course. Gravion doing an opening for a mecha series where all the character happen to be really cute girls...little strange. Good song though)
#172 Yamato Ending (How Dramatic!)
#171 Kids Show (Is that Kageyama Hironobu...IT IS!)
#170 Makufushigi Adventure Opening from Dragon Ball (Legendary Song!)
#169 No Idea (Give Me I Break I like Coorie.)
#168 I'm embarassed to say I have no idea (It's a mecha looking show and I don't know the song or the show :()
#167 It's A Wonderful Life Ending from Planet ES (Sounds like the kind of boring song my friend would like, but I don't really care for it)
#166 Maison Ikkoku Again? (Great Song! I may need to check out this series after all like a friend of a friend of mine recommended)
#165 Getter Robo Opening (I HATE THIS SONG! Seriously you'd think I'd like it because it's a Mecha opening from a classic mecha series, but I hate it. It's Toei Douga's usual repetitive syllable opening "GATS GATS GETTER GATS". Note to mention its campy, but not in the catching good way, more in the annoying irritating repetitive way.
#164 虹と太陽の丘 Ending 9 from Ranma 1/2 (Meh. It is curisously mislabelled as ending 7 though)
#163 Infinity Opening from Lost Planet (From the time before Megumi Hayashibara's songs where like the one in Manabi Straight. Pretty catchy song)
#162 No Idea (It's TOKIO though, the guy who did The Skull Man opening that's airing this season)
#161 Something from Lupin The 3rd (Meh)
#160 Taiyou No Tsubasa Opening from Brave Of Sun Fighbird (Personal Favourite that get's the hot blood boiling instantly. When they play it during the air surfing transformation sequence I get goosebumps and start flexing my biceps. Seriously! :heh:
#159 Cute Girls Song (Yep, I'm clueless here. Sounds good though for a harem looking show. Maybe I'm thinking the wrong genre)
#158 Go! Go! Go! Triton from Umi No Triton (Yoshiyuki Tomino's first anime where he made the ending of a damn kids show extremely depressing and killed the point of everything that happened before the last episode [basically the hero had been fighting for the real villain all along and they were kind of screwed and then it ended])
#157 Insert from Round Vernian Vifam (The opening to this show is one of a kind, but this is kind of average)
#156 Hustle Muscle Opening from Kinnikuman 2 (I like the Kageyama Hironobu song as usual, but I'm starting to see people's point about the nostalgia and kids shows opening. Still if they are good songs, who cares?)
#155 Egao ni Aitai Opening from Marmalade Boy (Needed the Katakana for this one. Meh.)
#154 National Awakening - Catharsis Ending 1 from .Hack//Roots (I'm so fast I went into my room, turned out the light, and was in bed before the room was even dark - Muhammad Ali [Project]. Still love em.)
#153 Go Tight Sousei No Aquarion Opening 2 (Hey look who it is. What's strange is that I find this song much better and even enjoyable compared to the one in the #2 slot which sounds like a generic harem opening)
#152 IS THIS EVEN LEGAL! (No idea what this song is, but Holy Crap with the picture. Songs meh)
#151 Angel Night Opening 1 from City Hunter 2 (Now we are talking. Personal Favourite!)
#150 Moonlight Densetsu Opening 1 from Sailor Moon (Legendary Song! I prefer the Sailor Stars opening over this though. Plus we have to listen to this song for like 150+ episodes over 4 Sailor Moon Series, so when Makenai starts its also a breath of fresh air)
#149 Storm Opening from Shin Vs. Neo Getter Robo (Far better than the original Getter Robo opening and a Personal Favourite! Glad to see it on here)
#148 UFO Robo Diaplon Opening (Pretty Catchy in all fairness, though I never liked the show with it's ugly as sin mecha design)
#147 The Biggest Dreamer Opening from Digimon Tamer's (I prefer this to Butterfly any day. Still glad to see it on here as its a personal favourite)
#146 Carnival Babel Opening from Blue Seed (It's alright)
#145 Brave Heart Insert from Digimon (It's good enough)
#144 Kagiri Naki Tabiji Ending 3 from Turn A Gundam (If nothing else I strongly recommend people to check out this song. It only played at the end of final Turn A Gundam episode and perfectly capped off Gundam for the 20th century. I cannot sing enough praise for this song either and it is a Top 10 all time favourite for me. So So Dramatic and all encompassing, the perfect ending to the Gundam Saga [Yeah it pretty much ends there if you subscribe to the Big Bang Theory and it keeps C.E outside the loop])
#143 Gundam Seed Ending 4 (You know what I don't care because I know in my heart that Kagiri Naki Tabiji is a far superior song at that this is here do to Gundam Seed's popularity)
#142 Being Opening 2 from Shakugan No Shana (The vastly inferior second opening to Shakugan No Shana. It's alright for a Kotoko song)
#141 No Idea (Dramatic though)
#140 Cute Girls Song (Damn Good)
#139 Kaze No No Reply Opening 2 from L-Gaim (Personal Favourite. See that guy on the left, he's voiced by the guy that is doing Konata's Dad in Lucky Star [Just mentioning so I can tie this series to something currently popular to give some people a link to and hopefully some sort of link to the 80's])
#138 All Through The Night Opening from Outlaw Star (I looped this song for an entire night once and it's a recent Personal Favourite. From a great Action/Drama Comedy Series by the "Trainwreckers" at Sunrise)
#137 Cutesy Song (Cutesy song from a series with familiar looking characters)
#136 Key The Metal Idol Ending (That girl be naked and that singer be whiny. Bleh!)
#135 Tenshi No Enogu Te Ending from SDF Macross Movie (Massive Personal Favourite, Insanely catchy, possible Top 10 favourite. In the context of the Music Video where it's Minmay's final sendoff and we see her leaving on the Megaroad with nobody left to remember her, it is impossible to describe the emotion of this song and scene)
#134 Illusion Opening From El Hazard (Good song from a classic series)
#133 Shining Days Opening from Mai Hime (Ear Bleeding song that I skipped every single time. Awful choice for the list)
#132 Hello Vifam Opening from Round Vernier Vifam (This is the one of a kind song I was talking about. It's actually all in english composed written and sung by a British artist named David Sylvain and its extremely catchy and good)
#131 Burning Heart To Heart Opening from Brave Police J-Decker (Somewhere around the middle for my favourite Brave Saga openings, but still pretty good)
#130 Maison Ikkoku Opening I think (It's damn good)
#129 Something from Urusei Yatsura (It's alright)
#128 Spiralling Melody of Light Ending from Rozen Maiden Traumend (Meh, I prefer the Ali stuff)
#127 Daydream Generation Ending 5 from Yu Yu Hakusho (Not the best song from this series, but still good)
#126 Precious Memories Opening from Rumbling Hearts (Ewwwwwwwww! Wailing Harem opening is not my taste. Haruka Suzumiya sure looks cute there though)
#125 No Idea (Looks like mecha with a fairly average song)
#124 Sora ni Kakeru Hashi Opening from Tales of Eternia The Animation (Always loved this song and later its singer would join the vaunted Jam Project. They couldn't have made a better choice in a new member female member)
#123 Porco Rosso Ending (Meh)
#122 Hohoemi No Bakudan Opening from Yu Yu Hakusho (THE Best Song from Yu Yu Hakusho. A Top 10 all time favourite, looped countless times and loved dearly by me. You know the studios know they have a hit on there hands when they have one opening for the whole series 100+ episode series)
#121 No Clue (It's alright though)
#120 No Idea (Very soothing song
#119 Coppelia's Casket Opening from Noir (ALI Project is insanely popular, holy smokes.)
#118 Totsugeki Love Heart Insert from Macross 7 (I call mind taking again because of all the songs they have to choose from in Macross 7 they choose my personal favourite from the series. Uncanny!)
#117 Cutesy Opening from Ichigo Mashimaro (I expected far worse actually. It's just a harmless cutesy song though)
#116 No Clue (Meh)
#115 Drastic My Soul Ending from Scryed (Singer seems to be tripping over his own voice here. Somewhat unpleasant)
#114 Still Love Her Ending 2 from City Hunter 2 (Not my favourite City Hunter song, but good. Seriously though where is Ai Yo Kienade)
#113 Dan Dan Kokeru Hikaretu Opening from Dragon Ball Gt (Personal Favourite approaching but not quite a Top 10. Such a good song)
#112 Kaze No Mirai He Opening from Legendary Brave Da Garn (Probably my favourite Brave Saga opening that isn't Yuusha Oh Tanjou! Great and Awesome Song)
#111 Unbalance na Kiss wo Shite Ending 3 from Yu Yu Hakusho (They are missing the better parts of this song from the sample.)
#110 Higurashi Opening (One of those excellent examples of how the 21st century is working to win over an 80's guys. Such a creepy and goosebumps inducing song that works even better in the context of the opening. Personal Favourite)
#109 Yes! I will... Ending from Blue Water (Very Good sounding song)
#108 Sakura saku mirai koiyume Opening from Da Capo (Ewwwwwwwwww! Not my taste at all. Why do all H-Game conversion songs seem to sound the same?
#107 Galaxy Express 999 Movie Opening (Legendary Song! Been trying to acquire this one for a while. Personal Favourite for sure)
#106 Real Folk Blues Ending from Cowboy Bebop (Never really cared for this song at all. Not my tase)
#105 Men of Destiny Opening 2 from Stardust Memory (I like this song, but not as much as the first opening from the series. One of those songs that actually fits the arc of the series. Still good to see it on the list)
#104 Saiyanora Bye Bye Ending 2 from Yu Yu Hakusho (Another catchy and great song from YYH)
#103 Some Whiny Sounding Song (Ewwwwwwww!)
#102 Tough Boy Opening from Hokuto No Ken 2 (Now We're talking after that last one. Top 10 all time Personal Favourite. Impossibly Catchy Song! "WE ARE LIVING LIVING IN 80'S! WE STILL FIGHT FIGHTING IN 80'S!" I live by these lyrics)
#101 Rise Opening 2 from Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex (Meh.)

You know somehow I get the feeling they had a hard time ranking the songs once they got their Top 200 nailed down. I'm led to wonder if these are actually being ranked or if its just a list of the Top 200 popular songs they could came up with in random order. Either Way I like at least 70% of these songs and only a few or so Top 10 all time faves aren't on there (Including Ai Yo Kienade from City Hunter 1). I really like the list overall though even if I would shuffle some songs around, but again its tough to do so, and I imagine that all the songs on the Top 200 list were pretty close together in terms of popularity and that a dice roll was probably necessary in a number of case.

@Potatochobit: Both Zeta Gundam songs did make it. Toki Wo Koete is in #100 and Filling the Star of Water With Love is #36, so good showing from them. you're right though. Kaze No No Reply from L-Gaim is in #139.

Wow. I honestly can't believe anyone could like some of those songs from the 80s or 90s. Like I think I heard one of them before... the Dragonia one... cringeworthy lyrics like Chaser Dead Heat...ad infinitum (I'm sorry what?). Same goes for a lot of the old songs really. Must be nostalgia is my guess. 2000 onwards though... fantastic for the most part. Don't like Ali Project songs though, they all sound way too similar (honestly their Rozen Maiden songs are particularly skippable. Never understood their popularity to be perfectly honest). A complaint I had with the 80s songs too (some of them sounded horrible like that dude "singing" the dragonball OP... sounded like a wailing cat).

#1 for the 21st century songs though :D Akino! Wai! Wai! Great song, very fitting for the show (which is also fantastic, one of the few mecha shows I've enjoyed the others are just way too samey for my tastes, particuarly the old ones that seem like nothing more than over the top screaming and loads of spasm inducing effects which only kids could love). Personally I enjoyed God Knows more than most of those songs on there. Thought it was far better than the Rozen and Nanoha offerings. Possibly the only decent song from Haruhi though. I'm not too bothered by the rankings to want it to be any higher though or to complain too loudly.

Would have preferred seeing one or two of the openings from FMA and Eureka 7 on there though like the first two OPs from Eureka and Rewrite, Ready Steady Go and Melissa from FMA. Maybe one or two of the Naruto openings too particularly Haruka kanata. Some GTO songs would have been cool like Driver's High and the porno graffiti opening whose name escapes me. Maybe one or two of the openings from Touch for the 80s.

Seems like a fun exercise in nostalgia more than anything (which would explain some of the awful offerings from the 80s... or perhaps they didn't have better to choose from).

Anyway... enough rambling... usual disclaimers apply... (IMO, YMMV, yadda yadda yadda, etc...)

Maybe the 80's and 90's songs are just a little bit too hot blooded for some. I personally find a lot of 21st century songs to be too corny and the intrumental parts to be underwhelming at best. There was more of an emphasis on the instruments back then while nowadays there's more of an emphasis on cute Idol singers. That said it looks like our tastes are completely polar opposite. Also Kageyama Hironobu isn't know for great singing, but the passion he puts into his songs. Kind of like how I feel about Aya Hirano.

Oh and Melissa was on there, which to me is the weakest FMA song by far. No sign of Rewrite or Ready Steady Go though.

It really saddens me though to see so much hatred for the 80's and 90's. I think people have to know more about the era if they want to appreciate the songs. It's not Nostalgia at all, the songs are just different in style (More emphasis on drums, guitars, synthesizers and changing beats and less emphasis on soft voiced singers with simplified instrumental accompaniment). The 21st century is a bit too subdued for me, and I like to rock and roll with my music.

I've got to say that the videos arent' really helping people enjoy the songs they may be unfamiliar with. A lot of the 80's spots chose some of the weakest parts of the given songs for the samples and they weren't done justice. Specifically Yume Iro Chaser and Melos No Youni Lonely Way, but not limited to those two.

Anyway about Ali Project. I totally agree, their songs all kind of sound the same, but I don't mind their music at all compared to other groups. Then again a lot of H-Game openings by different groups or singers also sound the same so it's probably just this era and the simplified background music I was talking about. A singer can only carry a song so far, which is why I prefer the 80's and 90's. Intitially I was ready to discount the 21st century music altogether, but then I found there's a certain specific if somewhat uncommon aesthetic (a Je Ne Sais Quois) that I like about certain songs in the more simplified instrumentals of the 21st century. I think it's when the singer isn't oversinging the song, but is showing passion and working along with the musical accompaniment instead of overpowering it that I like 21st century songs. Maaya Sakamoto is like the prime example of working along with and seeming to feel the music she is singing instead of just belting out the lyrics (Which is why I didn't like the Sousei No Aquarion opening much).

Helping to complete the list which Kaioshin started

#10 is from H20 (it even says so ^^)
#4 ending theme of "Laputa Castle in the Sky"

#6 Is from Mahoujin Guru Guru

If you have an hour to spare, they have Top 200 in here. You'd probably find this ranking a bit less WTF. Yes, Higurashi is in there along with (I didn't count) at least 30 mecha songs. It totally explains why I got so sick of mecha I avoid them like the plague.

Top 200-100: http://www.nicovideo.jp/video/player/sm352330
Top 100 - 1: http://www.nicovideo.jp/video/player/sm342212

But yes, I'm quite surprised at how current anime fared.

404... Mirror please?
/edit: nevermind, it was just the first part that was wrong.

GO EVA!! Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis is not a great song, but it's so profoundly and emotionally tied to me that I couldn't help but letting out a smile when I saw it. As for Aquarion, I haven't watched the anime, but it's Yoko Kanno, so what the heck, that woman deserves the whole 1-100 ranking for herself.

As for the other songs, can't say I'm particularly happy about their choices. I don't know a thing about 80's 'scept maybe for Saint Seiya and DBZ; there were a couple of nostalgic songs from the 90's (but how come Y'know from Bubblegum Crisis wasn't there!? HOW?!?), but most of them were alien to me; and from the 2000's, mixed feelings. I'm quite surprised that, despite the fact that a couple of Sakamoto + Kanno songs made it, there was no mention of Mameshiba, Baiku or Kuuki to Hoshi... Seems Arjuna wasn't such a great hit, I suppose.

Oh, and all the Gundam songs are completely alien to me. Mecha isn't of my particular choice (except perhaps for NGE :D).

PS: Oh yeah, is series #11 from the 90's called Soul Hunter? Man, that one brings lots of memories from my initial steps into anime.

If you want to know anything about the Gundam Songs and the 80's and 90's songs you know where to find me. ;) You don't want to hear my opinion on Yoko Kanno compositions with vocals though (The one's where she makes up her own language and it sounds really discordant and unpleasant). All other songs by Yoko Kanno that are in a real language or have no lyrics are phenomenal though.

Still though, thanks for cutting the different style of the 80's and 90's a break though even though they were mostly foreign to you. :D Everytime I see somebody skewer them without really knowing the songs or why people like me like them or bothering to ask why I like them, it's like a dagger through my heart. Seriously! A part of me dies inside and my hope that the 80's and 90's series will ever get any respect diminishes.

I guess it's my fault though for going backwards in time with my anime viewership instead of forward once I gained access to fansubs. Where instead of gaining a respect for modern series first, I learned about the oldies and built my fandom around them, and then much much later on I joined the 21st century and am still learning about what makes the modern anime fan tick. I definitely need to get a better dialogue going between me and the rest of AnimeSuki.

If only. I've tried that route before, it doesn't work. I can't name the number of people I've recommended Escaflowne, Macross Plus or Kimagure Orange Road to only to have them turn it down because it's from the 80's or 90's and "looks old". Plus if the people can't even get past something as superficial as the style of music in the 80's and are content to ridicule it as some sort of crap, how do you think their enjoyment story would go down? If Do You Remember Love can't get any love then frankly the 80's are screwed for tolerance and interest from modern anime fans.

I noticed that the posts after my summary and identification of the songs seem to be a lot less critical of the 80's and 90's music and even of the mecha music (Still don't get why the term mecha is a stigma these days and evokes feeligns of cheesiness and angst instead of tight plotlines and great characters. I blame Gundam Seed Destiny honestly. Thanks a lot Fukuda for ruining mecha for a generation of viewers by popularizing a view that does not in anyway reflect mecha as a whole).

Well, I guess I can go to sleep imagining that I have played a minor bit in changing the tone on 80's/90's anime music.

About 2 mins in so far on lunchbreak, I got most of them so far. Gonna test myself later on to see just how many I recognise :)

Also; Fuck yeah, Gundam X.

I did best on 80's/90's. Pretty much every track so far is awesome - I need a compilation of this.

Actually I'm glad to see so many Gundam tracks make it in, some of them are awesome.

Hmm... seems like it shows I'm relatively new to anime (I started somewhere around 2000-2001 iirc), so I really didn't get any of the 198x songs. There were a few anime which I had seen, but apparently the song didn't really stick.

I faired a bit better with the 199x songs, including "Komm susser tod" (German title, English lyrics, Japanese anime :)) from EoE. I'm definitely in the camp of people who hated EoE compared to the original ending, but that song just plain rocks. The Nadesico OP and CCS OP3 are among my all-time favorites as well.

Last, as expected there were only a few from the 200x era that I didn't recognize. Due to being able to recognize more songs in this category I'm also able to disagree with more of the listings in it, like "Reckless Fire" (Scryed) which I don't really think is great at all. And as far as Sousei no Aquarion themes go: I think "Go Tight" (OP2) is way better than OP1.

I agree with the opinion about ALI Project mentioned in an earlier post: I'm not exactly a fan of ALI Project songs because they just sound weird to me. Still, at least they managed to put the better songs in the top 20, not some of the really aweful ones.

There were a lot of Gundam songs in the list, but oddly almost none that I find really good from the ones I recognized. Of course, I've only seen ~Wing, ~Seed and ~Destiny, so I haven't got a lot of experience to go on. For example I think "Meteor" by "T.M Revolution" is better than the other Seed songs they listed, but anyway...

To bad my truly all-time favorite anime song didn't make the list: Agape by Ritsuko Okazaki. It's an insert song to UFO Princess Valkyrie, which I found "by mistake" (a very good mistake) among some of the anime music I downloaded years ago.

You don't want to hear my opinion on Yoko Kanno compositions with vocals though (The one's where she makes up her own language and it sounds really discordant and unpleasant).Oh, that detail makes the songs even more appealing overall. I believe getting rid of the lyrics to focus only on the sound of the vocals to be part of her master touch. Besides, she's the one doing the singing in those tracks (though she goes by the alias of Gabriela Robin), which pleases me more.

However, her Sakamoto tracks are some of the best there are out there. Not only the ones for anime, but the ones in Sakamoto's records (there are like 3 or 4 of Sakamoto's albums with music fully produced & composed by Kanno).

Well well, I listened to the 200-1.
Damn, it was quite harmful. The fact that I hate mecha-fanboyism, coupled with the fact that im not really tolerant to old-style songs (no, I dont think they are "bad", I just dont like them), and Im sure that may make some people angered with me xD, made me hate 2ch and Japan while I listened the damned video. Damn 1st and 2nd place (especially the 2nd), fanboys rejoice. Somewhat agree with 3rd (The Biggest Dreamer is better IMO though...), and 4th was Tori no Uta, probably my favorite song.

It's not mechas series fault that they just happen to have popular music. In my opinion the love for this kind of music was long overdue. I'm not from Japan, but I'm rejoicing. Plus there's hardly even such a thing as mecha fanyboyism. Everywhere I look the genre is pretty much exclusively ridiculed. Most people are actually with you, not with mecha fans like me (Who enjoy series like Gundam for its complex web of character relationships and epic scope of plot, not for watching things explode. I think thats where mecha-bashers make there biggest make is focusing on the battles to much). If anything there is an undercurrent of anti-mecha bias in the anime community these days.

The only thing that makes me angry in your post is this idea that so many people hold that if a series has mecha in it then there is no way it can have good music, characters, plot and atmosphere. Just like a lot of people seem to believe that if a series has lots of cute girls (Air for example) in it, is by KyoAni and is melodramatic and plodding that it will always be some thought provoking masterpiece in every single conceivable way. Any genre can have an impact as long as the effort is put in, Mecha in a series is no more of an auto-fail than stacking a series with moe characters and it also has nothing to do with the music whatsoever.

I see a lot of people complaining about the mecha series featured hear, yet nobody is complaining at all about all the harem anime music that is in the video too. If there's a pro mecha bias then there must also be a pro harem bias. Well there isn't, that's just the popular music.

Oh and Melissa was on there, which to me is the weakest FMA song by far. No sign of Rewrite or Ready Steady Go though.

I was mainly talking about the top 20 songs for 80s etc... I certainly didn't notice Melissa in there

There are parts of the song that aren't belted out, which I don't think were covered in that video. I would recommend giving the full version a try but whatever since you hated/disliked the snippet you heard I'm not sure it'll change your mind.

I'm not sure if this was in reference to my post earlier but just because I don't like the songs (and majority being OPs and EDs at that which can easily be skipped) doesn't mean I won't like the story, characters etc... All it means to me is that there is one less thing I like about the show, and in the grand scheme of things they're very insignificant things to me (referring to OP/ED songs here).

That's the problem with most of the 80's songs. They picked the weakest parts of them for the video, especially with Melos No Youni Lonely Way which was number 5 from the 80's and Yume Iro Chaser which was #4.

I guess one reason why the 80s songs rate so bad is because people DONT KNOW THEM.

However good a song, you will like it better when you heard it 20 times instead of once. Especially if its only a 25 second excerpt. Opposed to those that are still in recent memory.
While i didnt know quite a bit of the 80s and some of the 90s songs, i am distanced enough to appreciate them. If i heard them 20 times (like ever episode), i would come to love them, i am sure.

Very ironic, btw, is that Kaioshin_Sama falls into the same trap with the 00 songs: he doesnt know many of them, and superficially downrates them, opposed to his nostalgia songs which more or less all are "legendary".

I think they should change the name of the list to the worst of the 80s, 90s, and 00s, cause most of the voters seem to have misunderstood the meaning of the words "best" and "worst". Well, I was prepared to something like this.
I dont hate mechas, and I dont think that this type of anime has no plot and always focus only on battles, some do and some do not, but the point of my post was not that.
It was that (In my opinion, of course), the songs were not really good and a big mayority voted the songs of their favorite anime and mainly "nostagic" songs, not the "best" (and this is probably why Meteor, Ignited and Pride didnt appear in the lists, they were my favorites songs in the SEED universe :S)
I repeat, by no means I consider all mecha anime the same. Like with the rest of the genres, some are good, some are bad, they have strong and weak points and the people's opinion strongly varies.
Other thing to have in consideration is that, again, I dont quite like old songs. Its preference, is not that they are bad or not (it just adds to my anger :P).

If I felt that a number of people would be able to list what they felt were the top 20 80's, 90's and 00's songs I would probably create my own thread for the topic. However, as it stands I don't think there's any larger group of people with enough knowledge on each decade than 2channel. If people (something like 3) truly think we can do better than 2channel at picking the top 20 songs from each decade I'll create a topic for it though.

However, as it stands I don't think there's any larger group of people with enough knowledge on each decade than 2channel. You don't have to go back to the 80s. I think if you know the popular anime series of the 90s and 00s, and compare the songs from those to the selected ones, you will see how flawed the given the list is, in terms of quality at the least. Based on that, I doubt the people on 2ch have more knowledge on that. Even if they do, knowledge does not come with the ability to judge. Maybe they are so overflowing with knowledge that, at some point (before voting for that list, of course), they had lost track of their senses to decide on which is good and which is not good. Sad but true.

That's like saying that 4chan have enough knowledge on each decade to decide what are the 200 best songs that were aired on radio and TV from 1970 to 2000, because they happen to be one of the largest group of people on the internet known to westerners.

I thought that were way better 1980s songs with more appealing vibes that deserved a spot to the top 5, namely those from City Hunter.

When you look at Ashita no Joe's opening theme (that is from the early 70s), you'd normally expect, there would be a lot more good songs in the 80s. Though the most I remember from the 80s is the theme to Clementine (something like "Clémentine, quand tu fermes..."), a French anime from 1985. There are a few others, mostly from the 70s (Esteban, Lunlun, Remi, Nausica, Seiya).

Just to fill in the blanks of Kaoishin in 2000, since I know jack from before that apart from a small smattering of anime.
#14 is from Sister Princess (lol, IMO what a joke of a show)
#11 For Fruits Basket from geee I wonder... Fruits Basket? lol
#5 Happy Material from Negima, class 2-a version
#3 Akatsuki no Kuruma from Gundam SEED

My favorites in 1990's
You get to burning (though I prefer Angela's 200X rendition by a mile and a half)
Komm Susser Todd (ranks bottom of the my fave list IMO)
Rinbu Revolution (Music from that anime is golden, enough for me to watch the show despite Shoujo-Ai tendencies)
Yuzurenai Negai (<-- Absolutely kick ass song IMO. Ranks VERY high in my list. Mikuni's remix is also recommended for those who prefer a more techno version)
dis- (totally awesome song from Infinite Ryvius, one of my favorite shows ever. Must be psycho-moe lol)
Cruel Angel's Thesis (definitely catchy, though I prefer the instrumental versions)

2000 (most of them lol)
God Knows (Haruhi, nuff said)
Kinjirareta Asobi (Sounds like a more modernized version of a classic piece)
HHY (Haruhi, nuff said)
Nowhere (I like FictionJunction Yuuka, but not so much this Madlax song)
Love Destiny (Show was a piece of garbage though unless implied loli incest moe is enough to keep you going<_<)
Hishoku no Sora (IMO Resublimity is the best song ever from KOTOKO, but I guess I can't complain if KOTOKO has 2 songs in the top 20. Though shooting star IMO sucks lol)
For Fruits Basket (One of the few slow songs I actually adore)
Shangrila (<3 Angela, though IMO Stellvia OP was better lol)
Innocent Starter (the only song in the Nanoha series I actually adore, everthing else was average including Eternal Blaze)
Seishoujo Ryouiki (another great song, but I prefer #19 over this)
Akatsuki no Kuruma (Hoorah! Now there's a FictionJunction YUUKA song, and a SEED song to boot. Just a shame none of the other SEED songs came out, particularly any of Nami Tamaki's or Life Goes On from Destiny)
Tori no Uta (Ranks low in my fave list, as I prefer the OP. ^^; )
Sousei no Aquarion (unlike most people, I think it pwns. Above and beyond all the other songs from that series)

All in all, I'm actually VERY satisfied with the 200X list, as 13 out of the 20 are at the very least listenable for me. Sure there's some songs I would've loved to get in 200x and other areas, like Yakusoku Iranai (Escaflowne), Touch (Touch), Geki! Teikoku Kagekidan (Sakura Wars), Minna ga Iine (Boys Be), Hitomi no Naka no Meikyuu (YamiBou), but I guess I really can't complain since a lot of other people don't really like the top 20's lol.

And speaking of nostalgia, I highly recommend Shimokawa Mikuni's Remember album. Some of the more popular older songs sung by THE singer of FMP fame? Awesome.

Regarding nicovideo, today I got an e-mail from them saying that I have 24 hour access now! When you first start a new account, you can only log in at certain hours of the day.

I recognized almost none of the 80's, a few of the 90's, and most of the 2000's. I blame my parents for watching anime at spurts, and I only had continuous high-speed access since college. The selections seem pretty good, now I have to find a way to get some more mp3's.

Seems like nothing more than an excuse to get Tori No Uta into the top spot to me (which as far as I can tell is what everybody seemed to want anyway). I forget what was there originally, but people have their way now (sort of, I mean it is an edit of the original list after all).

edit: Oh right the Sousei No Aquarion theme. Still despite the suckage, I don't get the point of taking out certain themes just because they happen to be associated with mecha anime. If somebody can provide a logical reason as to why that is other than a hatred of Mecha shows, don't hesitate because my anti-mecha bias theory is looking stronger than ever with this video edit.

What Wanderingknight said is true, this isn't a Rock Version, just an Anti-Mecha version, because there are still many rock songs in there.

I still prefer Tsuki No Mayu, Yoko Kanno's gibberish songs like Moon and some of the tribal music in Turn A Gundam can get annoying very quickly (though nothing is as annoying as Bad Dog from Macross Plus), but Tsuki No Mayu is just relaxing and feels like the perfect song to end an episode.

I still prefer Tsuki No Mayu, Yoko Kanno's gibberish songs like Moon and some of the tribal music in Turn A Gundam can get annoying very quickly
To each there own, though i find all of Yoko Kanno's style's to be wonderful.

but Tsuki No Mayu is just relaxing and feels like the perfect song to end an episode.
Yes i agree with that, and never did say that Moon would make the better ending track for an episode. Its just one that i'd rather listen to --- better version in my opinion.
