View Full Version : Episode Synopsis for StrikerS [Read them here!]
I'm sure that most of us can agree upon the belief that the weekly episode discussion threads are special in this section of the forum. If one isn't following a thread actively, one can be pretty discouraged to read through it just by looking at the sheer number of posts collected in a given week. Some of us may still want to read a good synopsis for an episode without taking on the challenge of going through hundreds of posts accumulated in every passing days in these particular threads. Hence, the birth of this thread whose only purpose is to compile good synopsis of a given episode that are written by a fan of this series. The idea for this thread comes from Abbott.
These synopsis will be added each week for every episode from here on. Anyone can submit a synopsis. Naturally, only a good synopsis will find it's way into this thread which delves into the plotline of a given episode. Only a moderator will have access to this thread. So, how will a synopsis be added?
To have a synopsis added into this thread, it must be posted in the episode discussion thread for an episode. Then, PM an active moderator (ones with the bold usernames) by adding a link to that post. It will make a moderator's job a lot easier.
That's it! Feel free to show your appreciation to a poster if a synopsis was a good read. Every synopsis that are added into this thread will be linked to the original post along with the poster's username, so it will be easier for us to show our appreciation to such contributors. You know, cookies! ;)
Episode 1:
I've browsed through 15 pages before giving up, but that doesn't mean I've come up empty. Most of these posters have intermixed their own thoughts along with their version of the synopsis for that episode.

1. Synopsis and analysis by Kari-no-Sugata:
Bit surprised there weren't more comments on Nanoha's property damage early in the ep.
As a quick summary: the firefighters know someone (Subaru) is trapped inside but can't get there. Inside, Subaru is crying for someone to save her. Nanoha finds her in time (seems she specically set out to find her - I guess this is after the main battle is over) and comforts her (in a rather maternal, or at least big-sister, way) and says she'll be taking Subaru directly out of there. Cue Raising Heart saying there's nobody in the firing path (no Japanese sub for that line) and disengaging firing lock - last time (only time?) we saw a firing lock being disengaged was Asura firing the Arc-en-ciel :D
It's interesting to see the effects Nanoha's spells have on everyday things - before we've pretty much only seen the effect on monsters or other mages. Looking at the relative scale of the hole in the airport roof as Nanoha carries Subaru through it, I'd say it was at least 25m wide. As a side-note, there was some clear "recoil" on Nanoha's Divine Buster.
If Nanoha's shot can go through several meters of concrete/similar so easily, I think military grade armour wouldn't last long either (unless it had anti-magic properties).
PS In comparing to Subaru's power, while her attacks look nice, if we consider the effects, then she is way behind Nanoha (not that that should be a surprise). As Subaru admits - she doesn't have much going for her, just her speed and close range attacks (she can't do medium or long range attacks)
Interesting to see that there's a sub out already - obviously some keen fans out there :D
I was going to write an in-depth summary of the whole episode, but since it's been subbed, I'll just write a few comments on bits I particularly liked.
The idea to go with the exam was a good one I think. Though it's the 3rd season, most of the setting previously had been around Earth while this time the Earth may not get that much if any focus (maybe later?). Also, there's many new characters to introduce. Some series decide to have a very busy and complex (and often rather confusing) first ep... while also introducing a lot of mysteries. However, since StrikerS ep 1 is very focused, it really helped (I feel) get more deeply into the series. Since it's an isolated physical exam, it's quite easy to follow, and doesn't require learning a bunch of new terms etc (something some series suffer from early on).
For example, we get a lot of insight into Subaru and Teana, including their abilities. While Teana's background is a bit of a mystery at the moment (for those who have only seen the ep, not prequel manga or other info sources), we get a good insight into what motivates Subaru, and how she's changed since 4 years ago.
The structure of the ep also allows the newcomer stars to get some decent screen time - gives them some room to shine.
It was also interesting to see Fate and Hayate as "commentators" (I bet we'll see some fan-art that uses such an angle) with Rein as the "referee". I couldn't help but smile as soon as Rein turned up as the ref.
It's also interesting to see that everyone seems like a "pro" - ie had a varied mixed of skills and spells. With everyone now having many years of professional magical training and experiance, that's to be expected really and it comes through in a nice and subtle way.
It's really interesting to see Nanoha's 19 year old personality - she's still kind and friendly Nanoha yet there's been some subtle changes. For a start, she does feel a lot more mature, even if her voice hasn't changed too much (become a bit richer and deeper). She was very calm about dealing with the situations at hand - relaxed, yet professional. At the very end of the test, she doesn't remotely panic or rush in casting a spell to save Subaru and Teana. She's almost too casual about it...
I also smiled at the way she arrived at the end, calming down Reinforce, putting the "minor things" (Subaru's recklessness) aside and focusing on first-aid. All with a few simple lines.

2. Synopsis and analysis by Skane:
Having watched the fansubs, I finally appreciated the sheer awesomeness of it all. :D Despite being weepy, Subaru is not spineless. This episode has a lot of elements normally associated with "shounen" series, and it kicks all sort of ass when applied to girls with overwhelming power.
Random Thoughts on Ep01:
---- ----
It is easy to understand why Subaru idolises Nanoha. As a young impressionable kid, being rescued by a beautiful lady and carried to the starry night sky as she embraces you against her body... damn. It almost seems romantic. :heh:
.
They laid down the rules pretty quick in this episode. Explaining the strengths and weaknesses of Teana and Subaru. I guess they wanted to avoid one-sided battles in the future. :heh:
.
Unlike most hot-blooded male leads in Shounen-series, Subaru shows that she does have a measure of tactical thinking. She may still have her occasional hiccup (letting her guard down and not knowing how to brake), but at least she proves that she can come up with a workable combat plan (to take out the Sniper-bot).
.
Foreshadowing of Teana's background story. :heh: Hopefully it will not become a red herring.
.
Raising Heart sounded pretty desperate to set up. I guess she hasn't been seeing a lot of action lately. :heh:
"We need more enemies, my master!"
.
Who created Raising Heart anyway? Yuuno was her original master.
.
Raising Heart now has "safety locks". :heh: Ah... the joys of administration.
"We need to lift the limit NOW! Where's the damn authorisation?!"
.
No Bardiche. :(
.
Subaru is going to be in the same group as Vita... another person who excels in close-combat to the extreme, but lacks in long-range combat abilities. Personal lessons from Vita? :D
.
I noticed that they did not reveal Hayate's transformation scene... Given that Hayate's combat ranking is higher than either Fate or Nanoha, I am guessing that they will only show Hayate's transformation scene when they something as a last resort. :naughty:
"Fate and Nanoha can't handle it? Reinforce Zwei! Prepare for sortie!"
.
I will so hack a lung out loud if they parody a Robot-Combination scene for Hayate's Unison-Transformation.
.
Even better... Hayate unifies with her Knights. :heh: I mean hey, the four of them can be the limbs. :p
Cheers.

3. Synopsis and analysis by Sorrow-k:
Holy crap, I can't believe this thread is not even two days old and already has 10 pages of replies. I knew Nanoha was popular... I didn't realize it was this popular.
Ok, this is stock standard sci-fi shounen action and no one's expecting any more from this show. Interesting enough, it looks as if the sci-fi elements in this series are going to be far more prominent than in either of the previous two, which gives me reason to be apprehensive, since, in my eyes, anime (and most other forms of media, with the arguable exception of novels) doesn't have a great track record with sci-fi. With that said, the action sequences in this first ep were pretty good. Clean, pretty animation, fast-paced action, beam spam and the rest... there's no question that the idea was to start with a bang, and it'll probably set the tone for the rest of the series. Which is good (and strange) since usually it takes quite a bit for an action sequence to catch my attention in anime, since most of the time it just feels like I've seen it all before (hence why most action anime bore me).
Conversely, the drama was very weak... but one can't ask for strong drama in a first episode, since we don't yet know the characters and it's hard to really care for their plights at this stage (obviously there are some rare exceptions to this...) But, it made for an interesting comparison with A's, which I thought had a few pretty good examples of drama, but hardly any good examples of action. Maybe it signifies a change in focus for the franchise, which I wouldn't approve of, since it was the drama that made StrikerS's predecessors interesting (and I'm not saying Nanoha's drama is top-tier... I'm saying it was interesting enough to make for some good watching). Or maybe I just shouldn't be speculating so much this early in the season...
Fair ep overall. Not the greatest first ep ever, but a good old fashion turn-off-your-brain-and-enjoy fare. Final word: something about Subaru reminded me of Naruto.
Episode 2:
1. kari-no-sugata says:
The ep covers quite a bit more of what happened 4 years ago - for example, how Fate saved Subaru's sister, Ginga. Hayate helps with organisation a bit until the proper ones turn up (who happens to be Subaru and Ginga's father), then Hayate goes to strutt her stuff. Afterwards, Hayate decides she wants to create her own command to better handle such situations and asks Nanoha and Fate if they want to join. Nanoha laughs and says she'd be angry if Hayate didn't ask them to join such an interesting sounding division.
Fast forward to now, and Hayate and Fate are explaining to Subaru and Teana that Hayate's only just gotten to point of being able to create such a command and asks if they want to join. (As a side-note, Subaru doesn't even know what Lost Logia are. I think we need a "Naze Nani Nanoha" with Reinforce and ferret-mode Yuuno :heh: )
With regards to the exam, though the cleared they objectives, they had too many screw-ups, so didn't pass. However, because they're clearly too skilled for C-rank, they'll be allowed to re-take the exam in a few days.
Later, Subaru and Teana are talking about joining Riot 6, and both seem rather apprehensive - it's rather sudden. Teana seems particularly nervous - that it's too far above her. Subaru teases Teana quite a bit...
The other prospective members are arriving today, though some minor worries about their age / experiance (though not their talent). They're both from other worlds too. Signum arrives late (doesn't really fit her image) but a certain clutzy pink loli hasn't arrived yet either (exactly to image). Elio offers to go search for her, and uses a burst of magic speed to save her when she trips - though kinda screws it up. (Wow, his move was quite cool...)
Meanwhile, Shamal is giving support to Zafira and Vita who are taking out the drones seen in the StrikerS prequel manga. They comment that they're getting more numerous / hard to deal with. Hayate's new unit can't come soon enough.
Next week, Riot 6 officially formed it seems, and... beginning of battle training with Nanoha :D
PS One brief scene gave me chills. It was Fate asking Nanoha if she was okay (physically). Nanoha says she's totally fine - Fate should know how tough she is. But Fate says she worries since she's a friend. What on earth is Fate worried about? (I bet some jokers will turn it into Nanoha being pregnant or something  ) There was a lot of worry in Fate's voice - all that just from Nanoha's little work during the test? Hmm. Is this possibly from a certain major injury suffered a long time ago (as seen in the StrikerS prequel manga?)

2. Skane says:
Preliminary Thoughts on Ep02 RAW:
---- ----
We got to see another rescue. :D This time it was from Fate. If Nanoha's rescue of Subaru was "romantic", then Fate's rescue of Ginga is cool and suave. I am now wondering which sibling had the better deal? :D I am leaning more on Fate's rescue of Ginga, because I am a proponent of cool over romance. :p
.
Hayate's "elemental" attack came in useful in the airport fire. Nanoha's magic is "pure", and for the most part, destructive. :heh: Fate's magic is mostly electrical in nature, and thus, usually destructive as well (unless they suddenly need to power up an electrical station or something).
Hayate's frost attacks can be both destructive and life-saving, and thus, more versatile in nature. Maybe this is why she is ranked higher? Due to the more varied possibilities of her magic?
.
Speaking of which, they chose not to animate Hayate's transformation scene and opted for a cooler version in which Hayate does a running take-off. :D So... cool... *fanboys*
.
Fate retains her purple flashes when she streaks in flash-mode. Wait... that line seems to have an unintentional double meaning. :heh:
.
The snark in me wanted to see the ground enforcers get accidentally frozen by Hayate as well. :heh: Ah well, they did at least get frosting on themselves. ;)
.
It is nice to see that Subaru has evolved from her initial interactions with Teana (from the manga). She is now actively teasing Teana as opposed to being cowered by her all the time. :) Butt-pinching by Teana for the win. :D
.
I know it is meant to give us another perspective from the main trio's point of view, but at this rate, it is going to seem as though the trio are stalking every move that Subaru and Teana make. :heh:
.
Signum does not seem to be one for protocol. :heh: Poor Elio was stuck in his salute position because Signum did not return it back.
.
Fate's car WINS. I guess their careers must pay damn well or something. Now if only they reveal whether or not the car has weaponry and/or secret-agent gadgets. :heh:
.
First breast-grab joke in Nanoha's history? :heh: Fortunately, Caro took it in her stride and did not degenerate the scene into a typical ecchi slap-stick routine. Yay for subversions!
.
It is shown that Fate is the tallest out of the trio, followed by Nanoha, then Hayate.

2. Further insight by Kari-no-Sugata which expands on the later part of the episode:
As an intro, earlier in the ep when Nanoha asked Teana to walk with her, she said she knew that Vita had already scolded Teana and she could see Teana was reflecting on it. She said she wasn't going to do anything more except ask Teana to promise not to make a similar mistake in future. Teana did promise.
Around this time is a comment from Vita I think that Nanoha is working increadibly hard, in terms of analysing everyone's skills, etc to help them with their trainting. Nanoha's putting all her heart into helping the rookies.
Later in the ep, Teana and Subaru are practicing by themselves for the upcoming mock-battle (2 on 1 against Nanoha). Teana is a bit worried about the battle idea since it's against the rules/their instructions, but Subaru thinks it'll be okay since Nanoha is kind and would understand.
Anyway, Subaru charges towards Nanoha and pins her down. Subaru calls for Teana to attack, and Caro and Erio realise the Teana on the building was a mirage. btw, looks like Nanoha detected (or suspected) Teana approaching before the mirage was released.
Teana: ( While her Barrier is being supressed, her Field can be pierced. Here's my one-shot finish!)
Nanoha (very sadly): Raising Heart, Mode Release.
Raising Heart: Allright.
Fate: Nanoha!
Nanoha: It's strange. What's happened to you two?
Nanoha: I know you're trying hard, but a mock-battle isn't a fight.
[ doesn't really translate directly, but she basically means it's not a real world fight with no rules etc and where the idea is to knock down / kill the opponents. ]
Nanoha: If you're going to pretend to listen during training and then do something like this for the real thing, then did the training have no meaning for you?
Nanoha: C'mon, let's do it properly, like during training.
Nanoha: Okay?
Nanoha: Is what I tell you, is my training, really that wrong?
Cross Mirage: Blade Erase
Teana: I don't want anyone to get hurt again! *** ! So, I want to become stronger!
[ I can't make out all of what she says...]
Nanoha (very sadly): I guess I need to cool your head a bit...
Nanoha: Cross Fire.
Teana: ***
[ not sure what attack. I don't think she's used it before ]
Nanoha: Shoot!
Subaru: Tea!
Subaru: A bind!
Nanoha: Stay still. And watch carefully.
Subaru: Nanoha-san!!
Subaru: Tea!!
Nanoha: This is the end of the mock-battle for today. You were both "shot down and terminated".
Title of next ep is: The Important Fact.
[ sounds better in Japanese...]
btw, I presume Nanoha hit Teana with a pure magic attack (no physical damage). ie would only cause Teana mental pain, not injury.
Anyway, I hope this'll help people understand a bit why Nanoha was so sad at the end.
Kari-no-sugata writes more just in case the above wasn't clear enough:
couple more thoughts on the ep before I go to sleep.
I don't think anyone particularly objects to Nanoha's first shot on Teana, but a number think the second was unecessary. I think we'll see a better explanation in the next ep though, so this is somewhat speculative.
Here's my thinking on this:
It looks like Teana "went for the kill" on this - she probably didn't realise that she could have SERIOUSLY hurt Nanoha with an attack like that (designed to piece the "field" that protects your body, as explained by Vita a few eps ago). She probably thought Nanoha could easily take/avoid it or something - probably hasn't realised how much power limted Nanoha/RH are and how much stronger she's gotten. In other words, Teana was treating it like a real fight. If it was as dangerous as I think it was, Teana was really dumb doing that - that sort of stupidity could get her expelled from the TSAB, if not more. (Imagine if a soldier in training for the army brought in live ammo for a mock battle...)
I think Nanoha felt she had to teach Teana and Subaru a few things. She also had to stop Teana, who had totally lost it and wasn't listening to reason at all. She could have just done a bind on Teana, like with Subaru. I'm sure Nanoha is quite capable of holding both long enough - though Teana might have had to be "arrested" if she didn't calm down properly.
Anyway, I think the reason why Nanoha slapped down Teana hard is not just to punish her, but to teach her (and Subaru) an important lesson: that in a *real* fight, people can die or get badly injured, and why such things can happen. You may even have to watch a friend being killed. Nanoha has been building up their skills steadily, and safely. An important part of training has been self-defence (looks like about half the training has been for that) But if they ignore that training and just charge in recklessly in a desperate attempt to prove themselves, then that's very dangerous. And they could die doing that in a real battle.
Basically, it seems to me that Nanoha knew exactly what she was doing, and why, and probably expected the reaction she got. That's why she was so sad.
Nanoha's probably trained a lot of people and some of them might well have died in battle. (I wonder if Teana's brother was one?)
.
Episode 9:
1. Episode synopsis by Thisguy:
- Teana wakes up in Shamal's medical room, pants-less :heh:
Just as many people guessed, Nanoha used Magic-Damage setting and her's was so well-skilled that left no harm to Teana.
- Enemy alert when they're mentally sensitive... old but it still makes drama nonetheless :heh:
- Spagetti releases drones for "performance test" and expect them to be shot down, and it seems that these Type-2 were much more fast and agile compared to these enountered in Ep5.
- Hayate wonders whether they should one-shot these bug with big-gun, but Aces decides that they should stick with their conventional method, so that Spagetti won't get much more info from them.
- As rookies can't fly, they're ordered to stay back in RF6 base and Nanoha ordered Teana to stay out of this mission...
- Teana got PWNED once again, this time by Signum :twitch:
Surely, however, she deserves that though... asking stupidly clear question when they're on duty, and just about to launch for scrumble situation.
T: "WHY? Is it because you do not need someone that does not follow the order!?"
N: "You already know the answer by saying that yourself."
- Finally the revealation of the... "incident".
It's explained that repeated use of high-power-output artillery-magics (especially SLB) which is very stressful to her body, then shortly after she dared to use then-unstable cartridge system and Excelion Mode, which boosts ability of user beyond one's body can withstand...
All these stress were building up on her body, and after 2 years when she was suprise-attacked by "Unknown" when she was on her way back from mission, that stress caused her reaction delayed for a fraction of time... and that costed her that injury.
(In other words, we still don't know what that "Unknown" was, yet.)
It was so severe that she was even told "she may not be able to stand and walk again, let alone flying".
She eventually recovered, but she does not want other to go through such a mess... unfortunately though, her intention did not reach Teana.
- Signum "Surely, there're battles that you must pull out more than you can do, but the previous mission was it?"
Of course not, nor the mock-battle in question.
- Cross Mirage's "Mode 2" is shown to be a kind of round-dagger...
Nanoha, too, knew that Teana will need it some day... since she wants to become Enforcer and Enforcer is basically stand-alone in duty.
What Teana failed is that she was still far from mastering her "most basic" fighting style, yet she recklessly went for even more trick.
Once she achieved certain success in her sharpshooting, Nanoha wouldn't have denied her learning CQC too...
Nanoha also reminded Teana that when used correctly, Cross Fire can be really effective... (She used it against Tia in Ep8)
That implys that there're much more room for her to make improvement in her "basic skill".
- Literally, exactly what Riker posted did occur... to Nanoha.
That "I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." made me certain that Nanoha added one more girl to her harem (j/k :heh: )

2. Episode synopsis by Darco emp:
The ep started as expected and the rookies get their first holiday after joining mobile div six. Just the Subaru's method of waking Tea.... :heh:
Now we jump to a middle aged man addressing TSAB troops, my first impressions is he is evil on the bases of middle aged and MAN..... need to get another player that support flv playback for me to listen to the address again.... but looks like the Aces and the knights does not have a good impression of the man.
We get a camo of the 3 admirals, looks like they have not bite the dust as I thought....
Vice is hitting on too many girls, one of these days he'll get killed of Signum finds out :heh:. Erio how dare you smile at Caro in such a manner....
Signum jabbing Fate again is still gold :heh:, Vita taking jobs as combat instructor leave me with dread still.
While watching Tea driving the motorcycle, it makes me think WTH with Mid where a 16 year old can drive so well.....
I wonder when can we see Caro's other dragon :heh:, hopefully we can see it taking a dislike towards Erio who is getting too comfortable with Caro... Also I need to stress they are NOT on a date.....
Subaru, How can you eat so much icecream.....
Skip forward, we have Ginga investigating an unknow explosion and find Doc's Drones... then we flash to Doc and a NEW LOLI :heh:, too bad she is not properly introduced here. Looks like Lutecia will make a move now....
Then we have another NEW LOLI collapse in front of Erio and Caro. I guess the first half's climax will end with this issue resolved and Lutecia befriended. before the show turns towards to new loli whom is in the Doc's league.
Next ep.... Finally Hayate is in the frontlines hopefully we get to see some limiter release action in the next 2-3 eps.
