I had to watch this episode a second time to see what actually happened because I thought there was no way that Mikami was that much of a loose cannon to disobey Light's orders so cavalierly. I read the part of the manga covered in this ep, and discovered the anime was consistent. If you look, just before Mikami writes down the criminal's name, he pulls out a cell and does something with it-- texting the criminal's name to Kiyomi so she could write the name on the pages she has? If so, Light has set him up to be a big patsy...

I never thought I'd say this, but poor Misa! :heh: Light and Kiyomi are both arses, but Kiyomi doesn't have the intelligence to redeem her.

Well, IMO, I thought it was pretty obvious from the moment Light ordered the TV presenter to pass the instructions to Mikami, that Light was already preparing Mikami for the fall.

I mean, the instructions include sending 5 pages to the TV presenter. From there, we can see that Light wants someone else other than Mikami to pass judgement. Well, either that or Light wants to get the pages from her for himself.

Also , he wants Mikami to write his names in a fake notebook. This is so that when he gets caught, or from the preview, killed, the police(or SPK) will think that he's just a religious fanatic who thinks himself Kira.

In fact, I personally wouldn't put it past Light to have asked the TV presenter to write his name in the Death Note, making sure that all these happened th way he planned.

To make this clear, is this part different from the manga, I remember that Light never gave Kiyomi the Death Note, so are they trailing from the manga now?

It's not different from the manga, except they've cut some scenes. He hasn't given Kiyomi the Death Note in the anime either, just pages from it.

Yes he did, its the same plan he used in the manga. He ordered Kiyomi to carry out the killings while it seemed like Mikami was the one who was with the fake nootbook.

I don't really understand the purpose of the Fake Death Note but whatever.
Good episode.

Maybe it is for safety incase something happens to Mikami.

It probably wasnt hard to figure out it was mikami. After all, he kept trying to make himself a very prominent speaker, which attracted not only kira, but near. The shinigami eye part was very obvious. He killed everyone on sakura tv (probably without knowing their names ).

Im not sure what light hopes to achieve by doing so, but i think i know what mikami was doing. First, he sent the name to someone (kiyomi?) through sms. Then he wrote it on the fake death note. The person he sent the name to wrote it on the real death note, and thus it seemed as though mikami was the death noter, which he probably was, but maybe light has a plan.

All of you who claim that Mikami texts the name of the person to be death noted to Kiyomi seem to be forgetting the fact that she had never seen his face and thus could not kill him with the death note.

Unless that text message was sent with a photo of the person...

Extremely possible as most cell phones nowadays have a camera. Light may have a god-complex, but he isn't stupid, he is Evil Incarnate on par with Emperor Palpatine. :D

BTW, Near certainly looked cute when he has to ask Agent Lester to come to NY to pick him up and accompany him to Tokyo as he's never flown before. :heh:

Next up, Light shoots lightning at Near! Quick, we need to blow up the Deathnote Star!

I still cannot believe there are only four episodes left. How Madhouse intends to wrap things up without rushing the pace and cramming manga material into large chunks with the show reaching its finishing date?

Originally, I was intending to rate this episode with '7', but Misa v.s. Kiyomi little, verbal fight for possession of Light convinced me to gave the episode a solid '8'.

Recently, I have noticed that this and the previous episodes are borrowing a heavy, Noir-influenced design on regards to the animation, tone, and setting.
The shadow, dark, and light contrast effects were so flawlessly executed, that the Japanese scenarios at night gave the illusion as if I was looking at European scenarios.

To put in simple words, when I looked at Tokyo Tower given the tremendous animation quality presented at the episode for a moment I mistook it with Eiffel Tower.

The pieces in order.

I theorize that Light ordered Mikami through Kiyomi to keep hidden the note, then making the fake one as to lure out Near from his hiding spot.

What goes is that Mikami uses his Shinigami Eyes to see Near's true name, then send the name through other resourceful means of contacting Light that is not Kiyomi, since she's under direct suspicion of Near's watchful eyes. Light receives the name retrieves the notebook safely from its hidden place and is checkmate over for Near.

But I believe a fatal flaw arose with that plan.
The SPK member, Giovanni, saw Mikami taking a picture of the molester before writing his name on the fake note.

Near has been making himself known in the second arc for elaborating near-accurate conclusions, based on simple conjectures and hunches.
Near would eventually realize that Light intends to lure him out from hiding for a climatic showdown in order to capture him and win the note.

I am certain that Near will deduce right away that the new note is a fake one. He concludes that Mikami has the Shinigami Eyes in one way or another, then why the need to take the picture of the molester and writing his name immediately on the note.

I think that he took the picture in order to send it to Kiyomi so that she would be covering for his job, while he puts on a facade that he's carrying Kira's judgement with the "real" note.
I do not forget that Kiyomi in accordance to Lights' instructions told Mikami to tear five pages of the note. I believe that he mailed those five pages to her in the letter.

Anyways in this arc things are not the way they used to be when L was around. I think that the second arc lose some of its poignant charm: When Light was just an ordinary student full of desires and intentions to make his perfect world of pure justice, while being in a cat and mouse game of wits by L.

Misa as well has seem to be terribly demoted to a side-character for this episode.

This shot cracked me up

Over all I was disappointed with the episode. It did not seem up to Death Notes usual quality.

This episode is actually interesting...I'm guessing the next one will be even better. The last few episodes before this one were kinda boring to me, for some reason...I think it's because it got me confused.
