From preview:
- Tsukasa gets new phone and spends another 5 minutes messing with it while looking cute.
- More chocolate cornet.
- Konata gets her hands on Kagami's phone. Kagami snatches it back, fearing her friend would see the NSFW phone cam pics of herself that she took.

Sounds like a clip episode.
Tsukasa and Kagami exchanges their hairstyle in this episode, Kagami looks so elegant.

Also, Kanata's pic is shown up in this episode.

^Wow. They all look nice ^_^
But isn't Konata's mom name Kanata?
Apparently, the twins are visiting Konata's house, get some talk with the father and see a picture of Kona's late mom (the father being in the pic as well).
Not too sure about the other scenes, but in Lucky Channel, Kagami gets introduced in the same fashion as Tsukasa, Miyuki and Konata. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a talk about tsundere characters and their association with the pigtails hairstyle.
raws out, go have fun raping my bandwidth ;)
Skimmed through the episode quickly but from what I could tell, looks good.
awesome... been anticipating some of the material in this episode. :)
^Wow. They all look nice ^_^
But isn't Konata's mom name Kanata?
O ya...my fault...
Because I am not familiar with her mom's name in Hiragana, I just directly translate from Kanji to English
Konata in Kanji means "here" and Kanata means "there", 'koko' meas 'here', 'soko' means 'there'
That's why I use 'Sonata'(actually the meaning is quite confusing for me). I already corrected.

Lots of hype over Kagamin, but I'm actually more excited about Tsukasa's 'do. Aw, c'mon, she's *adorable!* You can't go wrong with twin-tails... unless you're a guy. :p

Hrmm…Yui doesn't care about Konata playing the latest galge. Konata ponders upon this fact.
Miyuki misses her appointment due to being engaged in reading a book.
Miyuki misses her bus stop due to the same.
Kagami taught Tsukasa how to use the mail function of her cellphone.
Tsukasa is very enthusiastic about the feature.
The father of Hiiragi asks the twins of how to use the mail feature of a cellphone. Tsukasa remains enthusiastic.
Konata on Kagami's cellphone: "Otoko da. Zettai Otoko da."
Kagami tries calling Konata's cell phone. No answer. After calling her home phone, she finds out that Konata isn't sure where her cell phone is.
Not sure about the store reference, but it appears that Konata is the legendary girl "A". The characters look familiar though, somehow.
The Hiiragi twins go to Konata's home for the first time.
Konata's dad has heard about the two(although unsure about any more than the stuff about jinja and mikos.).
Close-up on the figures(finally)
Konata and her dad defy normal parent-child relations(although it probably was obvious from before).
What are they eating?
The table resembles something from a galge.
Tsukasa and Kagami are like opposites…
…but they switch hair styles for the heck of it.
Tsukasa finds Konata's album.
Tsukasa: "Kona-chan, you're cute!"
Kagami: "You haven't changed a bit from long ago. Or rather, you have a really good relationship with your dad."
Konata: "Oh, that. It's mom."
Tsukasa&Kagami: *shock*
Tsukasa texts Miyuki, who happens to be busy due to homework. Tsukasa and Konata realizes that they have homework.
Konata = Kona-chan
Miyuki = Yuki-chan
Kagami = Kyo-chan?, Kyo(Strong)-chan?, Kyo(killer)-chan?
Tsukasa = Hii-chan
Are = Whatever = Sebastian = Shiraishi
Kagami-sama :)
Lucky Channel:
Shiraishi goes on about the meaning of "Tsundere"
herbert, I don't know but I thought about the same thing during that scene :)
-Somehow I either feel that that Shiraishi's speech was either a Gundam reference or just making fun of 外山恒一 (Toyama Kouichi).
-I really laughed at the Yodobashi Camera Gold Point Card Kona-chan has, as I just happen to have it, as well :heh:

There's also Rin from F/SN.
& yes, that could be the best in-store scene i have ever seen. Trust Lucky Star to do something like this, and make it so awesome.
Some pretty blatant reference insertions in this one (not happy but I'll wait til I see how it flows). However, they may have made up for it with a lovely scene of Kagami's shoulders and neck.

Watched the raw,
- I desperately want to know what exactly happened at the bookstore scene...
- I had high hope for the twins' hairstyle exchange scene, and it turns out to be a little short and uneventful.
- I think I know why Kona's dad was so excited and it's pretty funny.
- Tsukasa and her new phone... yea, don't think she lost it again though.
- Shiraishi probably talked more in this one LC than all previous episodes combined, he seems to be talking up for Kagami and Tsunderes, again, desperately wants to know what happened here (And yea, LC is getting longer by episode)
- As much as I <3 Kagami, I don't like her singing voice.

It doesn't even really qualify as product placement (if we are reffering to Konata's room), they just can't seem to get over their own hit show in this case and it scores easy appeasment points with the people who are waiting to jump the execs for not hurrying up on the Second Haruhi season. The Kooh figurine is a plus, but the Haruhi poster seems a bit out of place. The Mikuru figurine is par for the course and frankly worrisome for Konata's sexuality (not to mention there's something unnatural looking about it).
It's only when Konata morphs from Konata the Little Girl to Konata the Kadokawa Spokesperson that I get irritated. You can expect her to be a collector and you can forgive Kyoto for cheaping out a bit and going for the free referencing material, but when she starts getting into a Truman Show "Who are You Talking Too?" mode in the comic book store when talking about the greatness of Comptiq or Newtype magazine, that's where it becomes ridiculous and I can't suspend my disbelief that I'm not being advertised too.
Looking at Tsuksa in the one picture makes it seem as if she could be going into a speech about how awesome the figurine is (as part of an effort to increase real world sales), but I'll see for myself whether I think they are going overkill when I see the episode. The show has been known to lead the viewer along at times only to slam an anti-otaku/mindless purchasing bit right in their face.
Oh and my room beats the hell out of her room for ridiculous stuff. Zeta Gundam Poster, Wall of Manga (Over 20 Shonen Jump Mags and at least 25 volumes of assorted manga) and Dvds (5 series worth of Anime Dvd's for a total of 50+ anime Dvds), 10 Gundam Figurines, a Gunslinger Girl Figurine (don't ask how I got this) and about 100+ games in a cabinet, nerdy factoid books, The Entire James Bond Collection, Star Wars Collection and Star Trek Movie Collection and I haven't even gotten to my Den, which is in a seperate room....

Yay! I was able to download the RAW early this time (it sucks to use 10k bandwidth).
Favorite moment of the episode by far: Kagami-sama~ I LOLed when Konata said that in public.
Tsukasa and her new cell phone. Her first text:Tsukasa:Ba-ru-sa-mi...ko............Balsamic vinegar returns!
I can really relate to Miyuki and the "can't stop reading until it's too late" bug.
I got lost on the store segment, but I still enjoyed the fluid animation.
Is Kagami still reading the same FMP book? Cover looks the same.
Nice to see more of Konata's house. Was surprised that she was a decent cook (although it was hinted in an earlier episode about curry, and she cooks curry (or is it hayashi?) again). Why doesn't she cook her own lunch then?
Konata: Then what about that?
Shiraishi: 'That'?
Tsukasa: Hm... Whatever(なんでもいいや)Tsukasa! I thought you were nice!?
@archanfels: Kagami's voice may not nice to hear, but I think her voice is most in-character. Nice high-school girl voice with much of Kagami's voice still showing through.
Watched the RAW:
- Miyuki's reading problem: very, very true.
- Bookstore was a major WTF. It actually felt like an entirely different anime (scratch that...more like a movie) for half a minute.
- Long-haired Kagami is love.
- LOL at Konata/Kanata mix-up. Also Konata's perfectly straight face when Sochiro does anything whacky. She really has a high tolerance for things.
- I want to eat Konata's curry. Seriously. I'm so hungry right now.
- LOL at Kanji wordplay with "kyo". Tsukasa thought "mirror," then Konata bends it to "strong" and later "evil".
- Kagami-sama!!! Keep on calling her that, dammit!
- Shirashi gets livelier and bolder and more awesome every episode. Wait...he freaking took over the entire show! XD
- We are in need of a Christmas Konata.
Tastes vary... I love hearing Kagami's voice. And Tsukasa's cellphone is a cute little running gag.
Afraid I'm closer to Kaoshin's trepidation about the episode relating to product references burying the source material --- but I'll wait until I see the episode before deciding if its at the annoying level or not.
Kona is stellar when she's being the person I know from the manga and consistent with the logic of what an otaku would say. So far the series has kept "refs" as an undercurrent -- which is where they're best: blatant kind of fails...
actually i am very curious who the VA is of the 'epic' bookseller guy

That's Anime Tencho. He is the mascot of the Animate store. He appears in many commercials for the Animate retail chain. His popularity (?) has spawned his own manga and dramaCDs. And yes, the seiyuu for Anime Tencho is Seki Tomokazu (as it has been since Anime Tencho began in 2000).
But yeah, that Animate scene was pure KyoAni quality. GJ
Kyo-Ani's god-level sakuga lives on!!

Haven't seen the episode, but the director is basically throwing us a red carpet to identify the other figure with this shot. But alas... even with this closeup, I don't know who I'm looking at. :heh:
Any idea from the experts? An original kit of a game character from one of the hobby conventions perhaps?

The one figurine to the left of Kooh looks like a knockoff of the ones worn by the Dangaioh team in Haja Daisei Dangaioh (Specifically Mia Alice). That's the only thing I can think of when I see it. I know it probably isn't meant to be though.
I was not that gaga over the random references/product placements.
Otoh, w/o subs, the Miyuki scenes, that weird scene in the shop with Go Nagaiesque characters and the family photo album gag (that got me "hey I remember seeing it in the comics!") won me over.
EDIT: the more I watch Yui and Konata, the more I am thinking that the :3 is a hereditary family trait among the female members of Konata's family.

Okay rewatched it with sub, absolutely loved this episode:
- Kona dad is my hero, nuff said;
- I usually find Tsukasa's moeness somewhat forced, but I can't help laughing when she jumped the chance and act all impatient to teach her dad how to send cellphone message, it's so natrually childish it's adorable;
- Miyuki's screentime kept at minimum, which is to my liking (k yuki fan dont hit me), and she's actually kinda cute there too, though predictable;
- Anime store scene = Hilarious even I haven't seen the anime they referred to;
- The twins' hairstyle switching part, it's a bit short, but you can feel the <3;
- Tsukasa scores again with the "whatever" remark on Shiraishi, she does, afterall, has kagami's blood in her vein;
- LOL@ Kagami-sama!
- ROFL@Shiraish's Gihren Zabi tsundere speech, and I'm not even a Gundam fan;
- Did I say kona dad's my hero?
- Still don't like Kagami singing..
I actually gave it a 9.
Not too sure why I did, but there are a lot of little bits that made this episode to me.
Konata's dad definately shines when he appeared, mostly because of his antics but even when he is only mentionned in a mundane conversation between Kona and Kagami.
Lot of fanservice, the obvious being the product placement but the kind I prefered comes in the form of more Tsukasa cute-but-clutz gimmicks, Kagami x Konata dynamics, Konata sreasoning over her life trivias through the scope of her galge, etc.
Then, I've liked how Shirashi dominated this Lucky Channel.
Next episode gonna be christmas eve theme, I'll be waiting.

i just couldnt stop laughing when Kona-chan talk about her father
the sudden voice change in the line : You are annoying, dad, is hilarious !! :D
I'm just dropping in to say that I wouldn't label it as an exaggerated statement if one were to say that episode 10 was the best anime episode ever created!
God, the Xenopittan song, Toyama Kouichi reference and urging fans to finally start using tsundere correctly (by Shiraishi Minoru), Konata's dad being the luckiest man on earth, Animate getting owned... the list goes on. :D
I really liked this episode. More of Konata's father is always good in my view. :D This was also the best Lucky Channel ever. I usually dislike the entire segment (what can I say, Akira just doesn't appeal.) but this was good. ^^

I'm just dropping in to say that I wouldn't label it as an exaggerated statement if one were to say that episode 10 was the best anime episode ever created!
Somehow I highly doubt that. That's a really silly thing to say considering you can't exactly cross compare different genres with a referential style comedy to determine an all time best anime episode. That's to start, secondly it wouldn't be able to exist without other anime, manga and games to build itself from, so it's not entirely it's own anime, thirdly saying anything is the best something ever is generally a huge exaggeration and likely to cause intense debate and finally in order to justify that statement you would have to had to have viewed every episode of every anime ever created since Otogi Manga Calendar, so it's an extremely easy statement to reject.
I would have stopped at best episode of Lucky Star, but considering I think episode 6 was, I wouldn't agree with that either.
I don't mean to break your balls (Been watching way to much Soprano's recently), because I kind of get a kick out of this post, but you can't expect anybody to take such a post seriously dude. I really hope you don't.

I loved the animate store part with anime tencho XD I was hoping they would shift over to Gamers.
The table scene with Konata's dad was great too ^-^
Watched the subs. Another enjoyable episode:
- Tsukasa makes me glad I don't have that many texting friends.
It's a man. Definitely a man.
- Your performance is quite disappointing lately, Kona-chan.
No it's not!
- Of course it's not...it's a certain blue-haired girl. And she keeps on denying it.
- Bookstore scene is still a major *facepalm* + LMAO moment. I love how the first time you see the visuals is a WTF, and then knowing what the dialogue meant is another layer of even crazier WTF. The fact they mixed a Haruhi DVD ad in was actually more funny than annoying.
- Konata sleepover is fun.
Question to all: So now we see a little bit more of Kona-chan's house. What do you think her economics status is? She seems to have a front porch of bamboo, though she seems to have a combination living room + dining room.
- Xenopittan and 2ch reference is awesome too.
- Kona-chan's internet behavior struck me weird here. As many have mentioned, she gives off the impression of a much nicer (and smarter) person than she lets on by using complete sentences and perfect grammar with MMO party members and most of all Nanako. So...what's this here with her using the crazy symbolingo of mad 2ch-verse?!
- The one disappointing thing I feel from Lucky Star is how there are a lot of issues that could have expanded themselves to a full episode with very revealing character development, but this never happens due to the strictly slice-of-life rule running around. This series is extremely ripe ground for fanwork. Some examples off the top of my head: Kagami's weight problem, Konata's mother, "Kagami-sama", and Miyuki's lack of situational awareness.
- Bravo Shirashi...FORWARD, TSUNDERE PARTY!
I end this post by encouraging the Complete Tsundere Debate. My word is certainly "Insecurity."
I always enjoy Lucky Star, but this time it really knocked it out of the park, in my opinion. This show has leveled up!
I can't really point to any one part of the episode, because for me it was a non-stop giggles and smiles fest from the moment I realized Tsukasa was tapping out "barusamikosu" on her phone. :D The only moment that felt less than thoroughly amusing was Konata and Yui's exchange, which fell a little flat for me. That's a minor complaint against an episode full of awesome, though.
The progression to this point has been constant, but I think this episode finally fully brings the characters out as characters and not punchline-delivery units (they were always written that way, but I didn't feel the delivery necessarily got it across). It wasn't just funny, but heartwarming. Best of all, it was that way the whole way through.
Other notes:
- The store scene was a WTF moment, but hilarious in context of its reference.
- I was hoping Konata's dad would come off as merely enthusiastic and misunderstood. Instead, it's just slightly-creepy. Oh, well, more time for character exposition later. Konata's discussions about him were less creepy and more hilarious, though.
- For some reason, the Mikuru figurine pleased me to no end.
- Miyuki was so adorable! I think I have new avatar material!
And what can follow Lucky Star's best showing yet? LUCKY CHANNEL RETURNS TO GLORY. And it's all Shiraishi's doing! Not only did I find his speech inspiring and utterly hilarious, forcing me to double over in laughter and scrub back to watch what I missed from crippling laughter, but I can relate to his outrage.
Aaah, I am satisfied. :D

What an outstanding insight on the part of the writers that maybe if they let the man speak a bit more he might do something funny and inject new life into Lucky Channel.

Brilliant episode, one of the best of the series. The parts that surfaced the most were the bookstore scene, and of course LC. Glory for us loyal followers of Akira and company :D.
Ahh.... this episode was so good that I signed up to the AnimeSuki forums just to give it a 10. Definitive highlights for me:
- Anime Tenshou
- Tsukasa snubbing Shiraishi during the nickname scene
- Sleepover at Kona-chan's (everything about it)
- Shiraishi's rousing Tsundere Speech
Thoughts:
I *want* that Haruhi poster.
Did anyone else think, even briefly, that Kona-chan was going to proclaim that Kagami as her type? I did.

I confess, I must echo the positive sentiments being expressed about this episode. This would probably be my favorite episode of Lucky☆Star to date.
- Tsukasa's new phone. Ba. Ru. Sa. Mi. Ku. This makes me want to change my signature...
- Animate scene. Did Kyoto Animation just go shonen battle sequence on us? I had to rewatch this scene over and over again...
- Konata's dad. Like his daughter, he views the world in the same way he views his computer screen.
- Miyuki reading. While a bit boring, I can sympathize with her plight. I'm pretty sure that's happened to me before too...
- Tsukasa jumping to teach her father how to text message. I hardly ever comment or care about moe-ness, but I gotta admit, that was just adorable.
- So...just what kind of stuff DOES Konata's father write?
- The scene where Konata and company talk about her mom just made me laugh so much. "What did Mom ever see in Dad?"
- "Kaioshin Kagami-sama!"
- Easily the best Lucky Channel yet. Shiraishi totally stole the show with his awesome Tsundere rant. What term would YOU use?

There should be a survey concerning the true definition of the word "tsundere". I personally agree with Sebastian Shiraishi on the importance of knowing the original meaning and origin of the word, but it'll probably be one of those words has dual meanings, one derived from the other.

The whole Anime Tenchou part was hilarious! All that fanfare and all Kona needed was an AA bookmarker(the Gamer's reference was cool too since there's an Anime Gamer's store nearby, anything AA related can be found there :P). Shiraishi's assertiveness... awesome. Lots of good in this episode.
It should be noted that, this time, afk did not try to translate and adapt the "tsundere" term for the western audience.
Maids! Maids! Maids!

For one scene, they did translate/adapt "sama" and I thought it was brilliant. Although I would have gotten the gag without the localization, I thought it really added a little extra something.

It was funny how Kagami's intention to make fun of Konata backfired.

- Still don't like Kagami singing..
When I heard the first notes and lines from "I'm Proud" I thought, "I have this song on CD and who sang this originally?" Then I remembered that there are some high notes and rapid-fire lines in the song and wondered if Kagami would hit them properly. When she didn't (and Konata teased her about it, "Caved, huh?"), and then had to take a break to recover, I smiled with sympathy.
To me, this is what makes the ending karaoke bits enjoyable. Not just that they sing a variety of songs from different genres and styles (and usually very well), but that this is exactly how real karaoke sessions are (at least for me).
You enter lots of songs to not waste time with dead space like Konata. "We only have two hours so start singing! ... It'll be a waste if you don't load up the list." - Konata from ep. 1.
You have your people who are surprisingly good singers, although you wouldn't know it from just their speaking voice. "You're really good, Kona-chan!", "You can also sound like an adult." - Tsukasa and Miyuki, commenting on Konata's singing from ep. 3.
You have people that are either shy, uncertain, or don't know many songs so they primarily listen (or sing along quietly ;) ). "I wonder if there's anything I can sing...", "I don't know very many songs... I'm not confident about my singing..." - Tsukasa and Miyuki from ep. 3.
You always sing at least one song all-out, regardless if it means mangling it. "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA!" - Konata from ep. 5. :D
There are always songs where other people start singing the background vocals, even though it's not necessary since those parts should be pre-recorded on the track. Or you add parts or bits to modify the performance to match the version you hear most often (the studio/album version isn't always the one you are most familiar with, but sometimes that's the version at the karaoke). "Sha-la-la-la! Suteki..." Konata, as back-up singer on Tsukasa's rendering of "Valentine Kiss" for ep. 6.
You occasionally enter a song you'd like to sing and realize that you can't actually do it and have to admit defeat (sometimes due to language issues - Ritchie Valens' "La Bamba", anyone?). "It's in English. Forget that." - Konata from ep. 7.
You have people that try and give it their best, even on songs that have parts that ultimately are out of their range like Kagami. "Can't be helped. It's really high." - Kagami from ep. 10.
Kagami is the character in the karaoke that I identify most with. She's a good singer but has trouble with certain notes and parts of songs, but it doesn't stop her from trying. I have my Konata moments too, though... :p

When super heroes have no evil to fight anymore...they run a merchandise store!!!
...I didnt see that comin !!!! XDDD...Finally I get that word "Tsundere"
X3 Kagami-sama!!!
Wonder if they'll show those store heroes again....and I thought that Kona-chan's mom looked more white
Aghhh I want a sequel to the Sha-la-la-la Konata!!! with Tsukasa again!!! ^o^
But finally Miyuki was actually really kawaii this time...Character saved!!
The following is based on [a.f.k.]'s fansub.
Random Thoughts on Ep10:
First of all, I would like to give thanks to Tsukasa for blessing this episode with so many avatarisable Kagami-centric scenes. The past 2-3 episodes has been rather sparse with solo Kagami scenes, and so it was rather saddening for me. :p
.
After watching the store scene, a few things came to mind.
.
I wonder what would "some" people say if Gainax invited KyoAni, as a company, to animate one of their TT-Gurren Lagann episodes? :p
.
Seriously. I can't understand for the life of me why some people insist on slamming KyoAni's capabilities in animation quality. The masses like it, their peers like it, the industry like it, etc... Sometimes I get the feeling that they snub it just because they want to be the minority's opinion... Rebel without a cause in other words.
.
On a more light-hearted note, I think my theory of KyoAni having investments in "Blood Diamond" mines gained further credence. :p No really. Unless you intend to tell me that the other studios are incapable of handling their budget, I think it is more likely that for some reason, KyoAni has a higher budget than normal for their productions. Does anybody know what is the amount of money they spend per episode on average?
That, or KyoAni managed to head-hunt some of the best animators in the region (Japan/Korea) and make them work for peanuts...
.
There was an incredible amount of costume changes in this episode. Enough to normally outfit an entire series even. :heh:
.
Doesn't Tsukasa feel left out during the sleepover. She was always in the background while Kagami and Konata bonded with each other. :p
Cheers.

Tsukasa is as usual, childlike-moe. I swear, she seems to be the loli character in this show. ^^;
Miyuki is as usual, airhead-moe.
And which FMP novel was Kagami reading?
Speaking of Kagami, it's amusing seeing the difference of her reactions between Kona and Tsukasa. When Kona is acting dumb, she gets angry, but if it's Tsukasa (aka cellphone spam), she's firm and stern with her. Interesting for me, really.
And yes, Kona has officially turned her back from the dark side (aka yuri XD)!
The shounen-esque portion was awesomely animated. I didn't quite get the reference, but wow, that's some sweet animation there.
And finding out Kona's mom and dad were childhood friends? SSSQQQUUUEEEEEE!!!! The episode deserves a 10 just for that. XD
Does anyone feel about Kagami the same way as I do?
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/8995/akihatohnombnq7.th.jpg (http://img523.imageshack.us/my.php?image=akihatohnombnq7.jpg)
We're on the same page, my friend. Kagami in pigtails, I see Tohsaka, while her with a headband, I see Akiha. First time I saw it, I was like, holy crap, that's Akiha! Then again, I have always thought that visually speaking, the only difference between Rin and Akiha were their hairstyles. ^^; (As for Tsukasa, first time I saw her, I was heavily reminded of another Aquaplus character: Konomi)
And speaking of tsundere, I'm flabbergasted at afk's use of the word Tsundere this time around (as opposed to the word bipolar which they used last time). Then it hit me... they actually defined the word in the show itself, so I guess no need to dumb it down this time around. While it actually worked great, the inconsistency with the previous episode bothers me a bit, so afk suffers minus points from me this time around. >_>
But Kagami-sama -> Kagami the great = rotfl priceless.

I REALLY LIKED THIS EPISODE!!! Even without the needed "FAN SERVICE".
Gave it a 10 since it featured Kona-chan's mom, dad gets air time, Shiraishi defines Tsundre (it started 2002 - never knew that...) and speaks ALOT more than Akira. (I never knew he had 2 jobs, a very busy man IRL)
Kagami-sama looks like Haruhi when she changed hair accesories with her sister Hi-chan, no wonder Kona-chan gave her the badge LOL :heh:
At Kona-chan's house there are PVC, gasha, ero-games and manga overlaod!!! O__O!!!
Akira scratching WHERE?!! O_o;;; Akira Going to see the executive producer from Shiraishi's studio and have dinner?!! O_o
Isn't that guy from the manga shop from AKANE MANIAX?!!! Gou...something?...LOL :heh:
This sub CAN give a secondary meaning...I wonder thus this sub have something to do with my image before XD Hope not LOL :heh:

That, or KyoAni managed to head-hunt some of the best animators in the region (Japan/Korea) and make them work for peanuts...
While I like that quirky possibility (about the Blood Diamond thing ;D ), the more likely scenario as to why sometimes Kyoto Animation pull out their wild card (i.e. very good animation) is because they are known in the industry to not overwork their animators. And since they produce only 1 or 2 anime series per year, that probably helps a lot in the quality department. A lot of times, anime studios such as Gonzo spread itself way too thin, and they overshoot their budget after the first few episodes, which results in producing mediocre anime.
(Side note: I'm guessing that Gonzo wants to grow as quick as possible to compete with other major studios such as Madhouse, Studio Ghibli and Production I.G, even though those studios have been producing anime in the past 30-35 years.)
In a nutshell, for a small studio, Kyoto's works have been good because they only focus on 1 or 2 anime series, which in turn producing better quality animation.
Now, I hope ufotable steps up to the plate since Manabi Straight hasn't been very good in the story department. But that's for another time, I guess...

haha...the kagami sama backfire was just awesome XD i just love this type of reverse psychology being used :3 points on kona sticking to it as well XD
tsukasa and her new hobby...well i must say that it is a bit annoying to be constantly texted by someone so close to you...but the way tsukasa does it i dont think i can ever get mad :heh: (her reaction when kagami showed up was also priceless :p)
and for once lucky channel brought some appeal :3 the meaning of tsundere...hmm

It took a while, but Lucky Star is beginning to rank up there as one of Kyo-Ani's best shows, much to the chagrin of certain naysayers.
To start with -
Poor Tsukasa-chan nearly broke her new phone after she got her hands on it (and poor Tamama as well).
First thing Tsukasa-chan does with her mobile is to toy around with SMS texting, slowly, greatly pissing her sister off.
After getting used to it, she begins to spam Kagamin endlessly, even when they're under the same roof. LOL
And Tsukasa's just so kawaii when she's already thinking she's good enough to teach her dad how to text.
Miyuki doesn't appear a lot, but when she does, she just makes people laugh at her air-headed cuteness.
The part with Anime Tencho was so WTF it's actually funny. At first I didn't know about the cameo by Anime Tencho and was already LOLing at it, after learning about it, I rewatched it and LOL'ed even more, again and again. :heh:
Way to go, Kona-chan's dad. First thing he thinks of the Hiiragi sisters is them dressed in miko costumes simply because their family opens a shrine. :heh:
Like Kona-chan, I too wonder how her mom Kanata ended up with such an otaku dad like Soujirou.
Kona-chan was spot on when she said TV programs (in Japan) are beginning to look just like 2ch. I don't know how to describe it, but I just get that feeling everytime I see these clips on YouTube. Maybe I'm oversimplifying things.
Speaking of which, it's not surprising for Kona-chan to not use too much otaku-lingo when hanging out with her (non-otaku) friends, otherwise they wouldn't be able to understand her properly and she'd be stuck with other otakus instead. It's good to have a change in scenery for a while, in other words, "get a life". :heh:
Tsukasa-chan and Kagamin swapping hairdos.
When asked what type of person Kona-chan prefers, first thing that came to my mind was "purple-haired Tsunderekkos". :D
Finally, KAGAMI-SAMA! ROFLMAO Simply classic. I wonder if we should call her that from now on.
To be honest, I wasn't that looking forward to Lucky Channel this week, but Shiraishi totally saved the day by upstaging Akira-sama, much to her annoyance.
BTW Is their really a need to redefine the term "tsundere" as Shiraishi has suggested?
This deserves no less than a 10/10.

Arguably one of the best episodes sor far *_*
Tsukasa with a brand new cell phone. i was expecting some awkward situations with it, but it is beyond i could imagine. unfairly moe ~~
Kagami extremely annoyed about how slow Tsukasa was typing balsamic vinager (the return!). i easely understand how she is feeling, i have the same urge sometimes with people a bit hopelessly slow for this kind of things :heh:
Konata + Yui : a bit weak, but it made me smile how konata realises that yui is really weird cop XD
Miyuki and her "concentration" EX skill... well, it was really predictable... so easy to guess... and so delightful concerning her reactions :D
Tsukasa's rampage with her short messages mania. one thing : don't EVER let her know your cell phone number, or prepare to get cluttered within the very first hour :heh:
...Sounds like the message noobie became a klutz and cute master XD
smell... again? this is what... like the fourth time they are talking about "that" ? but what the hell they are talking about? oO
Anime Store. just with this scene, this episode deserves a 10. Seki Tomozaku in his glory (i can easely recognize his signature voice for the "DAAAAAAAA" for "Legendary Girl A Shift". whew  ), catchy flawless animation. holy cow, fanservice can be really awesome *___*
Konata's Otaku Lair : her room is REALLY familiar to me... not really in a good way if you ask me :heh:
Konata's dad is pure win.
Akiha !!! this is Akiha !! omg !! where is her kurenaisekisyu mode??
Kanata is quite peaceful and calm. doesn't really look as lazy as her lovely daughter ^^" (lmao at kagami comment : "she is legal, right?" :heh:)
Homework time ! konata and tsukasa reactions made me cracked up loudly XD
Hi-chan, talking with Kona-chan about Kyo-chan... which turned into Kagami-sama. rofl :D
frankly, when i saw the cat "eyecatch", this was the first time ever i was thinking "not now !!! i want MORE !", until shiraishi raises his voice, and makes his absurd and gold speech about tsundere. Best Lucky Channel Ever. i think the antics about shiraishi and akira switching popularity is the main purpose of the LC, which makes sense why the build up was so slow. things will be really ugly (and delightful :D) when shiraishi will dominate LC ^__^
Awesome Episode to say the least.
God, the Xenopittan song, ...
- Xenopittan and 2ch reference is awesome too.
Are you sure that's a Xenopittan reference, and not a Mojipittan reference? Splitting hairs, I guess.

Shorty again, hopefully with less outrage:
At Kagami (Sama's?)
-Keroro is out and Private Tamama is in. Cool!
-Man that is one fragile phone. I've dropped mine down a flight of stairs and it hasn't even dented it. That was like two feet she dropped it from.
-Duh! I can use a cell phone to text message Sis.....Slooooooooooooooow!
At Konata's:
-Wow Cousin Yui is boring.....
At The Doctor's:
-Don't tell me Miyuki is turning into a Sick Girl.
-It's that Freeza voice again. What do they have one person doing all the adult voices, by the way Miyuki your missing your call.
-Waited a bit long on the punch line, but I guess it shows how dense Miyuki can be.:p
At School:
-YEAH! Tsukasa in the sky. She's on cloud nine now that she can use a phone.
-OH DEAR GOD! They've turned her into an AOL User.
At Kagami's:
-I think the Afro thing may be a reference to the Keroro Gunsou ending. "AFURO Gunsou, AFURO Gunsou Wa AFURO!"
-Kagami bathing sequence spotted. Awww.... typical KyoAni cop out on fanservice.:(
-Oh that must be annoying. I can barely stand it when the phone rings twice in 10 minutes let alone every 5 or so.
-Oh dude, Kagami's all badass there when she opens the door to confront Tsukasa.
-It's you moment to shine Tsukasa, help the big dumb stupid man with your loli powers of sudden intelligence.
At School:
-GAH! Kagami is drawn really weird in the first close up here. :uhoh: She looks like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.... The second she turns her head she's back to normal though.
At Kagami's:
- I feel like I'm watching an episode of 24 here with all the focus on Cell Phones. Othewise a yawn sequence.
At ???:
-Card Combat
-GAME PENALTY! Advertisment for Haruhi DVD Spotted. -1.0
-Crazy sequence overall, but the penalty still stands. Don't see it as exceptionally outstanding other than for Lucky Star where it really stands out. If this is the scene everybody was talking about I could get this and more in any Shin Getter Robo OVA. Kind of a let down after all that talk, but still fairly cool. I guess it's more of a mind blowing experience if you haven't seen so many Super Robot shows like me. Not my fault though. Glad to hear Seki "Domon Kashuu" Tomokazu in this scene, and not the other Tomokazu they seem to love. At one point I expected him to scream "SHININGUU FINGAAAAAAAAAA!", but alas. Anyway, I'd be lying if I said I haven't see many sequences from Shin Getter Robo Armageddon, for example that make this seem tame in comparison.
At Konata's:
-Kona pops is behaving like Rei Hino's grandpa from Sailor Moon here.
-That's it. Konata listen here, My room blows yours out of the water for Hardcore Anime/Game Fan.
-Why is this so boring... oh it's the third quarter, of course.:heh:
-No game I've ever played sounds like that.
-AHAHAHA! Even TV Show's are starting to look like 2channel. GAME POINT +0.5.
-Konata is a typical chatroom user. No surprise.
-3rd quarter eating scene commence!
-Kona Pops has the same dream as me. Wait! I didn't mean that! NOOO!:uhoh:
Walking Late at Night:
-Boring Scene.
Back Home:
-GAH! They change hairstyles to screw with Kona's mind. Mission accomplished in my case.
-Okay the Kona mom "Is she legal" scene is highly amusing.
-The part about the ages of characters is a lie. Everybody just looks 12 now. Unless it's Nagarasete Airantou in which case Konata has a point.
-HAHA! Forgot the homework in your efforts to act cute. GAME POINT +0.5.
At School:
-And here we learn at last the secret behind how Japanese people come up with those uninspired nicknames for their friends and idols. Enter Kagami-Sama. What an exciting nickname when compared to something like "The Boss", "The Gipper", "Stonewall Jackson" etc. At least they know the names sucks though.
-Sebastian. That's to cool a name for such a loser!
-They just riff on the dumb nicknames from here on out. GAME POINT +0.5. Way to go Lucky Star for pointing this whole process out. Hopefully you'll inspire the rest of the Japanese Culture to come up with more interesting nicknames than Hikki or Aaaaaaya or whatever it is.
Lucky Channel:
-Alright I'm watching this as I type. Let's see this new and improved reimagining of Lucky Channel.
-Sebastian. More like Adolph Hitler with that speech.
-OKAY! What is Akira scratching there. :twitch:
-So do I need a pay account to suggest this new term that Kadokawa is going to force into common parlance?
-Minoru: "I got to TALK!" Me: "Congrats dude".
Ending:
-Nice singing job for Kagami. In character, but to the best of her ability, unlike Aya Hirano last episode who could only sing in her own voice when she's trying to have Konata put in the effort on a song.
So it's a 9.0 episode and it gets it. The only Game Penalty was for the Haruhi DVD push. We get it guy's the DVD is in stores and it's Haruhi, save it for the commericals, -1.0. I'm not as impressed by the shonen sequence as others. Sure it was exceptional for Lucky Star, but it was like any average sequence out of a Shin Getter Robo/Mazinkaizer OVA. In fact I could head on over to Kotetsushin Jeeg and get just about the same level of hot blooded animation, only on a larger scale throughout the episode. For a non-super robot fan it must have been a mind blowing experience I guess. The scene about TV being like 2channel in Japan now is amusing too. I wonder if Japanese TV is hitting the Reality TV craze yet. Also the nicknames the Japanese come up with for idols and such have been bothering me for a long time. Glad to see they riffed on that and Kagami basically said "Just call me by my name if you can't come up with anything interesting". Finally is Kadokawa/Kyoto Animation going to create a new term with there mass influence on the Otaku fanbase based on a poll. I probably won't be using it as it's likely to be something really goofy, but, well as soon as it's released... I don't even want to think about it.
Kyoto Animation, Manufacturing Memes since 2006.
Anyway, 9-1.0+0.5+0.5+0.5=9.5, rounding down for the Nine Out of Ten. I'm rounding down on the personal tilt because I didn't really like the whole Kadokawa ad feel to this episode (and because I botched the rating and need to save face since I couldn't go back and fix the rating vote even if I wanted to). Not the best Lucky Star, but probably second best. Certainly not the best anime episode of all time. Good showing though.
Watched a.f.k.'s version of L*S ep 10 ...
Hmmmm, anyway the episode itself was really good. I take back any worries about "product placement". The anime store sequence is just the way Konata feels when she enters "her domain" (its an exciting place). And the items in Konata's room are just the sorts of things she'd collect. Tsukasa was quite cute "kawaii'ing" over the Mikuru figurine.
I was pretty happy with the whole stay-over at Kona's house --- it was a pretty good adaptation of the manga sequence.
Tsukasa's "caught in the moe" look of embarrassment during her cellphone barrage was adorable.
Miyuki tagged a good sequence with her "zone out" sequence but I suspect her time is fading in preparation for the incoming characters.
L*C gave us quite a hot-blooded manly moment with Shiraishi's performance. I also was dreading the L*C eyecatch until he launched into his moment. We also get to see he's completely given up on Akira as she sits there scratching herself. With 14 more episodes to go.... where's L*C going to go next? ((hopes for more main content and a bit less L*C nonetheless))
In terms of "does this anime adapt the spirit and content of the manga .... I gave it a "10". It might have been a "9" but Shiraishi pulled the L*C gag out of the "again?" pit.
Finally, Kagami became even more adorable/huggable this episode to me ... fragile little crabby thing she is -- her trying to sing that tune at the end and flaming out did it for me.

what a pretty but difficult song... no wonder poor kagamin had trouble with it ;) initially i was looking at tetsuya komuro stuff but i didn't know someone else had actually performed it. whoops.
The original version of the song is quite nice. The instrumentals are great and the singer is doing a good job of enjoying herself and working with the music. I could do without all the hand gestures and the constant feeling she seems to have that she needs to be smiling the whole time through the song. The smiling is kind of creepy.
She kind of goes a bit overboard with the song at times, doing the whiny sounding style of singing that is common in Idol types these days, but for the most part its seems like she's just doing her own style of singing rather than trying to force some sort of image.
I could see Simon Cowell of American Idol fame slamming her for being a bit pitchy, but giving her a pass overall.
In terms of how I enjoyed this versus the ending, I'd give this an 8.5/10 and the ending a 5/10.
Anyway, 9-1.0+0.5+0.5= well Nine out Of Ten. Not the best Lucky Star, but probably second best. Certainly not the best anime episode of all time. Good showing though.
Wouldn't it be 9.5 given that you gave it 3 Game points? (Konata's, back home's and at school's)
Has anyone considered making a thread about the dark history and meaning behind tsundere. Poll included? :p

i would say 9 out of 10. The scene in the anime goods store is crazy but...donno how to say it, uncalled for/confusing :D
I think the part that makes us so uneasy or confused about L*S is because many scenes in the anime dangle a whole lot of possibilities that we're so used to seeing as taking up a complete episode (or just a fanservice filler for other series). Most slice-of-life animes tend to take little issues like preparing birthday presents and stretch them out of proportion to achieve the funny, but L*S takes the complete opposite and tries to squeeze as many little issues as they can into one episode.

What are the Japanese words for "Baby Hedgehog"? The following is also based on the "Hedgehog's Dilemma".
At first appearance, they look unsociable and dangerous looking, but when you get to know them better, you realise that they are actually very lonely people and desire companionship. Their "hidden" side (the bottom of a Hedgehog in this case) is very soft and vulnerable.

I have a habit of categorizing people by characters from Winnie the Pooh and Wind in the Willows..... I like the "hedgehog" theory for Kagami :)
Cute pic.
If it helps, I found an online romanji dictionary (http://www.freedict.com/onldict/jap.html) that says:
hedgehog =harinezumi, hejjihoggu
baby =osanago, akachan, chinomigo, youji, akanbou, bebi-

This episode was what LS is all about. Head-spinning goodness. Nothing's perfect, but I gave it a ten, just to vary from my usual nine. The twins bowing so nicely to Konata's dad was a good moment, especially in contrast with his delight at having dinner with three high-school girls, lol. Tsukasa being so chuffed about telling her dad how to text was lovely. Miyuki's powers of concentration were equally moe. And the animation sequence in the store was a delight.
And Kagami is definitely a little hedgehog. Although I think she is a reasonable extension of tsundere, so I don't see the need to change the term. I do look forward to what the audience (Japanese and other) comes up with, however. I, too, enjoyed Shiraishi's flight.

Not in this context. 子猫, 子犬, etc. The 'ko' you're thinking of is probably the 'kko' in 'meganekko' and the newly coined 'harinekko;' the kanji escapes me at the moment.

"neko" (ねこ) means cat. "nekko" (ねっこ) is just adding "child" to the end of "harine".

Edit:
@Mirrinus: The kanji for the 'kko' in 'meganekko' is 娘 (daughter). 針鼠娘 is 'harinezumikko.'
Actually, I may have found a problem: The kanji divides as hari nezumi, meaning 'harinekko' splits in the wrong place. We could put it in kana, I guess, but I think it would leave native speakers scratching their heads. 'Harikko' would be simply 'needle girl,' which I don't think would work, either. Hmm... what to do...
And then just think of all the showering you'd have to do afterwards .... ewwww

This episode was brilliant. Brilliant I say!
Everything just seemed to hit in this episode. Hell, even Lucky Channel was funny, with Shiraishi's rant about the lost meaning of tsundere (something which I actually agree with him on). The only thing I didn't like was the over-the-top "action" sequence in the nerd store. They just sort of built it up and up, and then it fizzed with an anti-climactic punch line. But, other than that, every other joke was outstanding. And I actually got them all! Thank you!
I totally relate with Konata's dad having a job completely unrelated to his hobby. I think if my hobby was related to my job or vise versa, I'd die of suffocation.
Two great episodes in a row. Maybe this show is turning itself around. Or maybe I'm finally learning how to appreciate Lucky Star (not a first with anime comedy for me... it took me about ten episodes before I "got" School Rumble as well).

This was a great episode...a perfect 10 for me!
Everything was funny and the timing for the jokes was well done...but the one scene that really stuck out in this episode was when Konata visited the Anime store...wow it turned into a movie kind of animation in just that one scene...nice going Kyoto animations!!:)
This was rare for me, but this episode's Lucky channel was funny also!
I've been finding the lucky channel segments to be rather average in telling its jokes, but this one really did the job!
Been watching Lucky star on the side along with Hayate no Gotoku! and Nanoha StrikerS...can't wait for the next episode of Lucky star!

Names are different. 子 is a common suffix for female names. She wasn't naming her giraffe "baby giraffe," but rather "giraffe-ko." An English equivalent might be "Giraffella" or something.

Very enjoyable chapter. Don't care about others thought but it deserved a 10 for me :D
PS: i still do not get the Barsamic Vinegar part, =/ any1 care to explain?
Question: Why are the twins confused when Konata serves dinner?

I'm still trying to decide what she served.
Possible reasons for the "? ?":
1) It was unrecognizable to the twins (alien space food)
2) They were stunned it all looked so traditional and well displayed
3) maybe both...
They were indeed shocked about it tasting so good.
As far as Balsamic Vinegar ... I think Tsukasa just thinks it SOUNDS cool and is fun to say....
There's a classic Calvin&Hobbes comic where the Hobbes is wearing a smock to do some art... and just keeps repeating the word "smock" because he likes the way it sounds. It drives Calvin insane of course.

When I saw it I thought it was because curry wasn't served in the same plate as the rice, the way it is in other animes. (Is there some kind of rule about that in IRL Japan?)
Or maybe they were expecting alien space food and were surprised it was normal?
Normally curry either sits next to the rice or is served on top of the rice in a bowl.... is that what those are? I'm suffering from the "indeterminate blobs of color representing food" problem.
I could point out the Cabbage scene as a reference but then I'd be guilty of over-association. But notice her cabbage's physical properties...
I got the confused part as if they were surprised to see Konata preparing something that looks like a real meal :heh:. I mean I was kinda surprised too :p.
And yes, it seems that Tsukasa thinks Balsamic Vinegar it's just fun to say. (Could this be, in part, because barusamikosu is a loan word?)

I've been wondering about Balsamic Vinegar too, whether maybe it sounds like some other word or whether it's just some random fetish of Tsukasa's.
Anyhow I finally had a chance to watch this epidose. I liked the texting stuff, once again I find myself totally in tune with Tsukasa when it comes to mobile phone use!
However the anime shop scene was a total whoosh, I have simply never watched that type of anime, and seeing a bunch of people screaming and shouting just made me thankful that I haven't.
All the product placement of Haruhi stuff etc is getting increasingly annoying too, though I suppose something like this is inevitable in an anime about an otaku. However I was mollified to finally see what looked like a somewhat pixilated Karin manga cover (though why pixillated?). I think one of the problems is, pushing Haruhi so much makes the whole thing look so 2006, these things date very quickly.
Miyuki ... I'm sorry to say that her scenes were once again just a trainwreck, no wonder she only get 3.64% of the votes in the poll... I think there is in principle something interesting about her character, but they've failed to capture it.
Kagami and bonta-kun really go well together, they were even dressed in the same colours in this episode and sitting in the same way.
http://img484.imageshack.us/img484/4558/bontawo9.th.jpg (http://img484.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bontawo9.jpg)

This is easily the best Lucky Star episode in ages; it may be the best one period. It's also the first time I've actually liked the Lucky Channel portion since about the second episode. Um, in terms of this sort of bloopers there was one I noticed right away.
When Kagami is curious why Konata does not employ specialized online otaku lingo and Kona boots up her computer, you see her sitting on the chair while typing. In the next scene where Kagami/Tsukasa makes their comments ($*#@#??), Tsukasa is sitting on the seat.
A couple of notes:
- One reason I think this episode worked so well is because the music timing and leveling is so much better than it commonly has been in previous episodes.
- Watching it again, the "barusamikosu" scene looks like it was ad-libbed. Best ad-lib ever? Perhaps! :D
- And, I just have to admit...

It's not a blooper it's a jump cut, something we were originally seeing less of with the new director but they seem to have regressed again. In between the two scenes they've got their homework out, so Kagami gets to hug the pillow since she doesn't have any homework.

...And yes, it seems that Tsukasa thinks Balsamic Vinegar it's just fun to say. (Could this be, in part, because barusamikosu is a loan word?)....Yes, I think so. Since it's a new foreign word, it can easily just sound like fun nonsense syllables.
In case anyone missed it, Fukuhara Kaori (http://hashihime.atspace.com/etc/luckystar/charseiyuus.html) (Tsukasa) said in her blog that she came up with "barusamiko su" herself, as an ad lib, in the episode where it first appeared. And either she ad-libbed it again in ep10, or they actually made it part of the script. Comic-readers, does the slow-texting scene appear in the comic? If so, what is Tsukasa inputting?
When this show started, I wondered if it could really keep my interest for 24 episodes. It has done great so far, and the fact that there are so many characters left to introduce makes me even more confident that it will stay this interesting.
And thanks, dahl_moon, for pointing out that Yamamoto is back. That makes me so happy. I didn't want to see him and KyoAni split, since I think he's a genius at what he does well (OP/ED animations, for example). By the way, according to ja.wikipedia and a.f.k., his name is Yamamoto Yutaka instead of Yamamoto Hiroshi, even though Hiroshi is the more normal way of pronouncing the kanji used for his given name.
I enjoyed Tomokazu Seki, too.
And FatPianoBoy, try this link (http://anime2.2ch.net/anime/subback.html) for 2channel. Lucky Star is easy to find, because it has this title, with the star and the ≡ω≡.: らき☆すた ≡ω≡.
One more comment: that jump cut where the pillow went from Konata to Kagami was intentional and used to good effect. It was not "regression" in any way, but another example of excellent humor. imo.
EDIT: On the other hand, good catch, since maybe it was Yamamoto who put it in, even if he was the writer rather than the storyboarder.
Just watched the sub by a.f.k. Great episode.

By the way, according to ja.wikipedia and a.f.k., his name is Yamamoto Yutaka instead of Yamamoto Hiroshi, even though Hiroshi is the more normal way of pronouncing the kanji used for his given name.
That gives a lot of meaning to why Akira yelled Yutaka at the end of one LC episode...
Hm... I found out about this in another forum, but looks like Yamamoto Hirashi is back, as the script writer:
http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/6348/yamamotodr3.th.png (http://img124.imageshack.us/my.php?image=yamamotodr3.png)
(Name on the right)
You meant Yutaka Yamamoto, right?
Anyway, I checked the subbed version, yes he is credited for the scenario of this episode.
EDIT:
Ooops, I didn't read Kaoru's post. My bad my bad.
Same feelings here, I am glad he is still around.

I guess normal people is sleeping at midnight?

We who watch Lucky*Star are not normal. At all.
There are these wonderful products called DVRs .... I understand they can be scheduled :)
More seriously, its pretty much expected that the 11p-6a times are either recorded via DVR or watched by shiftwork people.
Anyone know how many hours a week the various demographics in Japan actually *watch* television? I'm doing a lot if I watch 4 hrs a week outside of PBS news and documentaries anymore.
You forgot to mention college students. In college, particularly in a guys' dorm, you're lucky if you can get to sleep at 2AM when you have an 8AM test. I speak from experience. There are some people who are "normally" incapable of sleeping before midnight. This is particularly true when one of your roommates goes insane if up past midnight and another finds it entertaining to keep the former up until 5.
That said, back to the show: I don't think I've ever heard such a thorough explanation of "tsundere". Now I sort of wonder what new names people are coming up with for Kagami's jekyll/hyde persona since the favored term has been so adamantly rejected. Frankly, I don't think much of her behavior since the LoliBaba shows such an extreme rendition of much the same bipolar insanity.

No kidding. My roommate in college last year never went to bed before 2 or 3 AM, regardless of when his classes were the next day. On weekends, he'd wake up at 2 or 3 PM, and have only one meal the entire day. And he liked to practice his trumpet in our room late at night...

I go to bed sometime between 4 AM and 6 AM usually. I like late nights with noone around to bother me, like tonight.
Just watched EP10... holy crap...
he ED is Kahala Tomomi's I'm Proud! Komuro Dynasty! Talk about mainstream... I listened to Tomo-chan after I got bitten by the Amuro bug in the mid 90's... Tomomi is an model-turned singer since she was sleeing with Komuru Tetsuya... this was one of her earliest single I think. Komuro basilcally ruled JPOP in the late 90's... With Amuro Namie, Globe, TRF, HITOMI, and Tomo-chan, etc produced by him. Tomo-chan is unique in that GIRLS more than guys loved her. But boy was she HOT. Google her famous golden bikini pict if you don't believe me.
What's cool about the ED was that NO ONE CAN SING THE PART Tsukasa's voice broke. It was so incredibly accurate that this part MUST be inspired/created by an older female in KyoAni. No guy will sing a Kahala song and while most girls would remember the embarrassment forever. I wonder what's her anime connection?
Man she was a train wreck post Komuro... suicide-prone and became really fat. I think she's more mentally stable these days... she even released some come-back singles last year.
Man nothing like something so darn mainstream to throw the otaku for a loop. Last thing I would expect! I'm gonna dig her videos and post int MV section. Time to reminisce!
And I totally agree with Sabastian-san's Lucky Channel comments. Rise up, Citizens and defend Otaku terminology!
I've been wondering something. I can understand highschool girls talking about food, boys, class, clothes, etc., but do they really talk that much about odors? It seems like every day they have at least one discussion about some serious stench, often while cracking up. I thought that was more along the lines of stuff highschool guys would talk about. Maybe it's just saying something about this particular bunch...?
Actually, the "coming in at the last part of a conversation" so you never know WHAT stinks exactly is a "running gag".
I sort of figured it was a running gag along those lines. I just thought it odd because I wouldn't think girls would go back so frequently with such humor to the subject of something that smells so bad.
i need that green haired girl from the OP~~

Excellent episode. I was ecstatic when they did "I'm Proud" as the Ed, although it does make me feel a bit old when she said she used to listen to this in pre-school. Jeez, I listened to it in college! And it really is a hard song to sing.

Does anyone how to do all those symbols Tsukasa entered?
It depends on your phone model .... mine does a few emoticons but I think those are mostly 'japanese cellphones sold in japan' offerings... and some of them may be only offered if you contract your soul to Cthulhu for all I know.
I have this feeling that Tsukasa visits parts of the cellphone menu system that even the designers aren't aware of... :) :) :)
Little necroposting here.. But I think that this is for a good reason. I have just found this on the Internet http://www.alphatrance.com/0engine/music/anime/ and I wanted you to check out the Lucky star song version made by Josh. Specially one, the version of "I'm proud" (which is the ending of the chapter 10, that's why I am posting here this) which I have heard and after episode 21 I just want more Kagami knowledge. Can someone post a translation of the full song (Kagami's version)? What do you think about the midi's? Will some of you upload their piano vids on youtube? X3 Thanks!!!!

I don't care about the thread necromancy thing at all, because we probably need more discussion on each episode in the future, and unfortunately there are too few threads (and even fewer active threads) for it to be an annoyance here in this forum.
But I thought this topic fits better in the music discussion thread. Maybe we'd better move there later?
Okay, back to the topic.
My perception on the song is that it's just another sweet-sounding but unnotable and disposable j-pop, which just sold well but nothing other than that.
I dislike songs of this kind, and I don't feel like translating it at all, so I don't.
By the way, this song was released during the height of the karaoke boom in Japan, and it was, so to speak, a little bit of social status then (especially among young people) if you can sing very difficult songs, and thus more difficult songs like this were much popular.
It's like the polar opposite of Valentine Kiss, which Tsukasa sang, If I say.
Kagami wanted to sing this one, because she thought it is just another innocuous song to sing, or unlike Konata, she just wanted to look cool rather than enjoy songs herself?
EDIT: I thoughtlessly said 'unfortunately' at first, but doesn't it indicate this forum is very well maintained and ordered to serve its original purpose nicely?
Thanks very much for the explanation! I would never have thought of this that way X3. I guess Kagami is much more similar to me than I first thought (trying to be the best and show this to her friends XD).
I've got a question about the ending song...
In both the TV-size and full versions of 'I'm proud', Kagami's voice breaks at the end... if I understand correctly, it's just because she couldn't handle the high notes? (I thought it was because it's a lonely song and it made her cry ;_; Guess I'll have to take back the 10 million moe points she got from me for that, then)
BTW, thanks for the link to my site, 723 :D
I don't personally think it is for the song being sad. It looks like she couldn't reach the highest notes. Furthermor, Kagami wouldn't show her feelings while singing a song. Not, if someone like Konata who would torture her for that forever, was watching her.
But it would be nice. If that was the case, she would have those 10 million moe points you talk about.
PD: I love your web, your videos and your midis. Keep up the good work, please!

Well check out the Music Video thread, I've posted the original MV of "I'm Proud" by Kahala Tomomi. I was a big fan of hers back in the 90's so I know this song pretty well. Tomo-chan is known for her inhuman high notes, and most person on the planet can't sing her songs like her. The joke here is that most girls back in the 90's did the exact same thing while singing Ms. Kahala's Komuro songs, is that they would down the key mid-song so they won't sound like Kagami did. I was dying with laughter when I heard that, because I've seen it done many, many times in real life. Search in youtube for Kahala Tomomi and you'll see what I mean.
The song was not a sad song... it was rather an up-lifting song and became an anthem for the Office Ladies in the 90's; I doubt Kagami was singing it in that manner... she WAS probably sad for trying and failing to sing a Komuro Family song... but not sad because of the song itself. Komuro Tetsuya rarely write really sad songs.

And AVPlaya solves all our doubts! xD I have seen the videos and I know what you mean now. Thanks for the explanation again. It is said several times that Kagamin is really competitive and wants to do better than the others always (ep 23, for example). But, she doesn't realize her own limits sometimes, leaving us these precious "moe" moments!!

You are very welcome. If you're really want to hear more of Tom-chan's songs, you can search for her last BEST album, kahala compilation (http://www.amazon.co.jp/kahala-compilation-%E8%8F%AF%E5%8E%9F%E6%9C%8B%E7%BE%8E/dp/B00000JO9J/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/250-9570387-2521864?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1189643835&sr=8-1), which contains all the song made her "Japan's Cinderella" in the mid to late 90's. Her boy friend was the Super Producer of the time, Komuro Tetsuya (he single handedly made Amuro Namie), and he wrote all her songs. While I liked I'm proud, my favorite will always be I BELIEVE and Hate tell a Lie. Good thing Kagami didn't try to sing "save your dream"... talk about freaky Kahala vocals.
Tell you the truth, this is the ED song which prompted me to want to start writing the cultural reference posts. This anime hits too close to home for me sometimes, and I just feel I need to give something back. :)

I'm just wondering, the part where Konata calls Kagami "Kyou-chan", was that in the manga too? Because KyoAni has made references to stuff they haven't made yet in the past, and I find it so incredibly ironic that she used that exact nickname, considering how there is a character in Clannad called Kyou, who just happens to look, sound and behave almost exactly like Kagami, and I have a hard time thinking that this wasn't done on purpose...

Yes, it's kinda impossible to not catch that, but the incredible irony of it all still makes me wonder whether they actually thought of Clannad while writing the scene or something. Unless it was actually in the manga, in which case, it's probably just a huge coincidence.

Ummm....sorry for being so late on this but I'm watching Clannad right now and I must say that it must've been a reference to Clannad. The similarities between the Fujibayashi twins and the Hiiragi twins is shocking(at first). Not only are their personalities the same, but if you look at the shape of their eyes, those are the same too, not to mention their hair are pretty similar. After watching like two episodes of Clannad, it occured to me that it must have been a reference in Lucky Star. Based on appearances and personality, I'd go so far as to say that they had been setting up for that joke right from the start. They probably just couldn't resist.
Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention, last time I checked, Clannad is made by Kyoto Animations.
More cute scenes with Tsukasa with regards to her mobile phone and her trying to use it, and therefore things for this episode could not get more perfect. The scene where she is texting her sister was one of the most heart-warming scenes that I have ever seen from any programme!
Another plus point to her and her phone is her ringtone, which I believe is Pachebel's Canon in D, a song in which I adore. Tsukasa is such a heroine for me.

Cute, innocent girls and physically identical yet personally different twins are common anime/manga archetypes. Clannad the anime is faithfully adapted from Clannad the visual novel released 3 years before the Lucky*Star anime. Kyoto Animation copied personalities faithfully from both series.
Trust me, KA doesn't think that far ahead. ^_^;;

Okay, maybe they haven't been planning it from the beginning. But I doubt the writer/director or whoever handles that stuff would pass up an opportunity to make a reference when writing the episode. When writing the script they could've found the pun that works perfectly with the reference. Oh and I made a slight edit in my previous post. Just mentioned that Clannad is made by KyoAni and you know how they love referencing their own stuff(and other stuff too). Basically I'm just saying it was an intentional reference, not pure coincidence.
I just caught some of the dub - and they kept the Fate/Stay Night reference...
...albeit barely.
(You can hear him say 'Sakura' and 'Tohsaka'... just about... but I can't make out the rest.)
