I heard some news about this episode from another board I frequent.
Yoko shoots off Nia's hair! Gainax pulled a Lenalee. I'm in the very depths of despair right now. There is no justice! There is no justice!
Here's what she looks like now.

Welcome to the official Kill Yoko Thread
She did it... she killed Nia's hair! She shoot her hair lol
She even go ahead and cut it out completely! Either case she is still cute

Kamina, now its Nia's hair!! (and Aldene)
I don't know what to think anymore.. apart from lol Gainax.
I guess my avatar is out-of-date then..
Yoko did save Nia in the process, so I'd forgive her...sort of...at least we know the favor Nia asked for (though Yoko shouldn't quit her day job). Judging from the screens, the first half has a nice lighthearted atmosphere, except maybe for Yoko, who looks like she lost to Nia in more than one contest...

Episode 12 Screencaps and Summary (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2007/06/16/gurren-lagann-12/)
Well I gotta say that I was surprised Nia's hair got shortened (I always preferred long hair), but at least it doesn't look as bad as, say, Eureka's in E7. Lots of action this week and a lot of fun to watch, so another 10/10 for me.

Great ep. Good developments mixed with a fanservice/humor opening part. Great fight. Great new moves. Judging from how they're developing Viral, he's definitely going to be one of the ultimate villains at the end with real cause to hate Simon. :D
Nia looks like a boy in that shot...
Nia's hair WTFBBQ!!! Urge to kill...rising.
Just when I like Nia GAINAX does that..............

Man... This episode gets the "Most WTF" award in TTGL...
There's lots of FLCL vibes in this ep, especially with the background music.
And WTF!!! NIA!!! WHY YOKO WHY???
(actually I kinda like the Yoko in this ep... but still... WHY DID U DO THAT TO NIA???)
Oh well...
Another death flag gets raised for Nia. She can't have near misses forever imo.
ok watched the raw;
The episode has a lot more than in screenshots...Some points..
- A lot of sexual reference in this episode. The private parts of every men on board start hurting when Dai-gurren's lower observation part was hit by torbidoes.
- Leron's butt hurts when Simon drills Dai-gurren up from water at its butt.
- Swimsuits for the fan service. Nia completely overshadowed Yoko for some reasons...
- Yoko first thought that she is better than Nia physically.. but Nia proves her otherwise... Nia beats Yoko in every beach games. Yoko gets really fustrated...
- Simon's screen time reduce dramaticly. He is there only for the action now since he had a huge development last episode.
- Aldene is dead. damit...
- Jii-san again.. who the hell is he? He can fly!? whats up with that glasses on his neck. cough cough.. Simon from the future!?
- Yoko was in a bad mood almost all episode long...
- Nia's belief in Simon and Yoko is really out there... she really belief in them. wth... I can understand Simon a bit, but Yoko!? because of this Yoko weaken to Nia by the end of the episode.
- Nia's hair!!!!
- Nia's hair!!!!
Next episode: Summary http://anime-quina.blogspot.com/2007/06/what-is-gurren-lagann-ep-13-summary.html
well.. next week we will have Nia's cooking. By the sound of it, she will becomes some housewife type character waiting for Simon to return....... Please don't end with just that Gainax... I want buster machine.

This episode was glorious. It was the best looking episode art-wise since three, had a great mech battle, character development for Yoko and Nia and new moves for GL.
I still want to see Gurren-Lagann combine with the Daigunzan to form Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann. Maybe in fifteen. :heh:

nooo!!!!
WTFBBQ yoko do that for! >_< if she is trying to make us hate her then its heading towards the right direction ~ its depressing to see smoking bullet holes though nia's lovely hair ;__; and while short is cute i prefer long!! rather than nia's death flag raising i would say its yoko's for doing this stunt...
Simon needs to be show yoko he's the man for damaging Nia's hair... oh wait.
I see people are starting to hate Yoko over a very stupid reason.
This was a very good episode yet again, especially for character development. I adore Yoko in this episode --- and its good to see that she is not being thrown behind Simon (who we didn't see much of until the later half of the episode) and Nia.
Shame to see Adiane go, though its better then keeping her as the back-guy who appears now and then. At least she went out with a bang. Its difficult to see whats going to happen to Viral now --- no way he'll go back to the Spiral base & of course he'll want revenge. Its how he'll go about it that has me wondering.
I see people are starting to hate Yoko over a very stupid reason.
I agree.
It makes you wonder why Gainax feels the need to degrade and demonize Yoko and edify Nia. I hope that it's not to generate sales and ratings from the "moe" crowd. With all that happened in last week's episode, it only slightly interested the viewers again in the ratings (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=989600&postcount=119).
Nia is becoming a little cliched here. The moe one is either the klutz or the supreme one physically in anime. Our Nia is the supreme type. Hooray, for genetic manipulation! With all those girls on that ship, Nia could have asked any one of them to cut her hair, but for some reason Nia (Gainax) chose Yoko.
Deathkillz, that post and your avatar so go together. :heh:

We can tell that Nia is trying to become much closer to Yoko --- her being the only one on the ship who doesn't treat her nice.
I think Gainax did a great job this episode at bringing the two closer. Especially with the hair shot part, and the end scene.

Well... the series was already written from the beginning and the final episode script was finished before the series started it's run on TV. What happened wasn't recently planned, it was decided from the beginning.
There have been and are series that respond to the instant ratings.... they usually end up sucking from a story construction standpoint.
Personally, I kind of like how they're making the characters more complex and less one-dimensional. Nia and Yoko have a fairly complicated relationship since she's bounded in what was a trio set of buddies (Yoko, Simon, Kamina) who have suffered a loss and a sudden complication of feelings that may not get a chance to sort out.

I don't think this is new, I can think of a number of studios, game makers, authors etc. that appear to respond to popular opinion and have a character getting thrust into the limelight appear to be more than coincidence. One instance I know of for sure is Ken Akamatsu with Negima where Makie Sasaki won a character popularity poll, and Ken even admitted he had no real plans for her, but made her a major character after that poll.
Sometimes I think Lucky Star for example seems to respond to what the viewers appear to want to see, especially with Tsukasa's rise to popularity when previously she was far in the background of the Big Four and the sudden focus on her cell phone which proved popular the first time before she lost it, but we know it was written long before it ever aired. I'm feeling the same thing with Super-Nia lately who seems all too perfect in terms of personality and ability. Plus Yoko was never this nasty originally. I remember back to the first episode when Simon fell on top of her and she just smiled at his embarassment. Looking at this thread though, if Gainax is attempting to shift Nia in to the top female slot....it's working.
My guess is that they had some sort of focus group sample of people that think like the average viewer, sat them down and had them watch and comment on what they wanted to see before the later episodes were put to the drawing board.
if Gainax is attempting to shift Nia in to the top female slot....it's working.
Ehh?
I'd say its more of a shock as to what happened. Nia is pretty awesome in her own way, but she's no Yoko. I enjoy both characters for different reasons, though i'll always love Yoko more. She just gives of a bigger impression.
& what has happened to Nia is just one of the many ways of bringing Nia & Yoko closer as friends, aka good character development.

Destiny or Geass are perfect examples of this.

How many episodes were completed when Takami Akai resigned in April. Eighteen? To literally go back to the drawing board and make major changes to this series at the last minute sounds impractical and expensive. It seems more likely, at least to me, that Gainax anticipated Nia's popularity and were counting on it. If Gainax made any big changes, I'd guess that they'd be towards the end of the series.

They won't make major changes... they were very pleased with the script for episode 26 so it would be silly to just alter that for this purpose. Nia's character was planned from the beginning and they're just developing her in a likable fashion. And actually watching the episode would make you realize they weren't antagonizing Yoko at all.
As for the 12 itself... Gainax still delivers, the episode was great all around. Visually very fun, intense and as a whole really charismatic. Weird the actual animation was better this time than in 11 but I don't complain as the large scale battle in the second half made me confident they will pull-off the promises for the season finale about the uncountable ganmen being launched to the sky as if they were fireworks, the graphic direction for it was impressive.
Anyway, anon subs are out.

Actually, as a Pro-Nia Neutral-Yoko ANTI-Kamina fan, I actually like Yoko for once in this episode. The hair bit still irks me a little but Yoko did it to save Nia, so that evens things a little.
And I just realized what made me prefer Nia to Yoko, one has complete faith in her man, the other just worries about her man's recklessness. Or maybe because it irked me that Yoko chose Kamina over Simon.
I guess I still like watching cliched shows where the protagonist (NOT the guy besides him) exudes GAR, saves the day and the main heroine falls helplessly for him (NOT the guy besides him).
To each his own and NIA FTW!

seems they are making Nia the star attraction now over Yoko. Nia has better skills than Yoko overall as well after defeating Yoko in those game events.
damn, they are making Yoko a bad character now, not bad in terms of a villein but seeing and noticing reasons to hate her.
Nia did look cute in that swimsuit of hers but man i was dissappointed in Yoko covering up. Her dressing normally was more revealing than the swimsuit she had on.
Also that Blonde has an exact duplicate body of Yokos. She look good in that swimsuit of hers ...........pisssssssssssd.....HOT SIZZLE

Good, Nia's lookin' kinda cool now.
This episode was pretty impressive imo, especially the second half. Good to see the animation is still holding up as the series gets closer to the middle. I especially liked the underwater part of the fight between Simon and Adiane, and the entire thing overall seemed to be back to the adventurous spirit of the earlier episodes (though the mood's a bit different, which I don't mind).
I like that they're fleshing out Viral's character a bit, even if he's still driven by a sort of one-dimensional urge to destroy Gurren-Lagann, it's a bit easier to relate to his character now. Should be interesting to see how he continues on from this episode, and if he might end up being a recurring villain throughout the remainder of the series.
9/10 from me.

The obligatory beach episode did not disappoint; it delivered fun, fanservice, rampant sexual innuendos, a good fight, and shockingly enough for a beach episode character development! It was very good, but it wasn't as good as the last episode. Since I gave episode 11 a 9, I had to give this one a lower score. So, I ended up giving it a 8.
The show is returning to the feel of the earlier episodes, that of an adventure story with lots of humor.
The animation is still stellar. This alleviates many of my worries because the animation quality in many series starts to lower around this point. Maybe in a few episodes the animation quality may drop, but as of now I have no qualms. The series also seems to have a pretty big budget, so I'm not apprehensive about the future either.
The big issue in this episode is, of course, the development of the relationship between Nia and Yoko. Nia reached out to Yoko two times this episode: the first time by giving her a crab, and the second time by asking her to cut her hair. Nia apparently reached out to Yoko because Yoko was in a bad mood and was somewhat isolated from the main group. We discovered that Nia really trusts Yoko, or at the very least Yoko's skill with a rifle. When Yoko found out about Nia's trust in her, her demeanor towards Nia changed and she became closer to her.
It makes you wonder why Gainax feels the need to degrade and demonize Yoko and edify Nia.
I do agree that Gainax is making Nia seem much better in comparison, but I don't agree that they're demonizing and degrading Yoko. If they wanted to do that, they would have done much better. In fact, I didn't see Yoko as unlikable at all. I find her actions and attitudes to be perfectly understandable in this episode. She went through the trouble of putting on a bathing suit (which just happens to be much less revealing than her normal attire) and all the guys do is complain; hell, one of them even said that "if you cover up Yoko like that, she's nothing to look at". She was reasonably irritated. Then, Nia comes in and gives everyone nosebleeds even though her swimsuit was less revealing than Yoko's; remember that this happened after Kittan said "the more visible skin, the better". After this, Yoko tried competing with Nia(and failing every time) probably to regain a little piece of her pride. Well, the frustration piled up and eventually reached a breaking point; Yoko then took out some of her frustration on Nia. That I didn't agree with, but I don't think I makes Yoko any less likable. Of course, she also ends up saving Nia's life( even though she took out her hair in the process), and made her very likable.
Viral received character development as well. His motive for antagonizing Gurren-Lagann grew again. This further diminishes the possibility that he'll defect in favor of the Gurren brigade. Of course, this doesn't diminish the possiblity of him defecting at all; it just raises the likelihood that he'll be in his own faction if he defects (which many of us think he eventually will).
Random, Incoherent Thoughts
Yoko got dominated, a lot.
Seeing the guys comment on how Yoko's bathing suit is less revealing than her normal clothing made me laugh.
Yoko is the designated pervent policewoman of the series.
Man, the innuendos in this episode were pretty blatant. The external bridge gets damaged and every guy on the ship grabs his crotch in pain. Gurren-Lagann propels the Dai-Ganzan out of the water and Lerron grabs his butt.
Kiyoh looks great in a bathing suit.
Gimi is always amusing.
Seeing everyone get a nosebleed upon seeing Nia in a bathing suit, and then seeing them pose afterwards made me laugh a lot.
Gurren-Lagann gets a new attack! It's not nearly as badass as Giga Drill Breaker, but it's still pretty cool.
Adiane dies! We lost the only character on the show with an eyepatch!
Gurren-Lagann is getting pretty broken. It tore apart Adine's ship like it was cheese.
Simon got way less screentime this episode. He pretty much only showed up to kick some ass.
I love the short guy who always jumps the gun. He makes me laugh every time.
I'm beginning to think that old man can do anything. He could probably even see why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Adiane slapped Gurren-Lagann with Sayrune's tail the same way she slapped Viral with her own tail.
Nia's hair! Nia's hair! Admittedly, she is still pretty cute with the new chop, but she was much cuter before the haircut. I will now be quietly mourning the loss of her hair.
Yoko apparently spells doom. She kisses Kamina, and he dies. She takes out Nia's hair. She takes out Adiane. Let's hope she doesn't get too close to Simon, or at least that his main character plot-shield can hold up against her.
Nina's cooking next episode? This will be glorious.
The SimonxYoko pairing seems impossible now. Simon seems to have lost all interest since Nia's appearance. He didn't even say one word when Yoko was being shout at by those guys.
Overall, pretty nice character development. Nia is really taking over as the crew's favorite huh. Must say tho, I dont really like her short hairstyle. Maybe I'm just not used to it.

Short hair seems to lessen the moe-blob factor thus making the character more like-able for me.
Fight scenes were high win! I love it when they portray the Dai-Ganzan (or whatever its called) as an old WWII battleship or something, only getting to see the top half and not the silly leg things hehe.

I liked the episode a lot! The swimsuits were cute, Nia's awesome, and Yoko is increasingly seeming like a real person. As a role-player, sometimes you have to have your character act in a certain way (like being a bitch to someone), even though you the player don't nessesarly want to. It's just good roll-playing. I give Gainax props for keeping Yoko in-character, even if it would just be easier if she was back to her old personality.
One of the themes I've picked up in Gurren-Lagann is inuendo and refreances to prior mecha anime shows. (Its almost like Gurren-Lagann isn't trying to make the most original show, but to best blend what has come before - and have fun while blending.) Nia for instance gives me strong Eureka and Ayanami Rei vibes. Simon is of cousre an analouge of Renton and Shinji. Yoko reminds me of Taho and Misato - Which is why I never predicted a Yoko/Simon relationship; Yoko's role is oneechan, not anata. The fact that Nia gets her hair cut is just another reference to her likeness to Eureka.

I don't see how having Yoko shoot Nia's hair to save her is degrading Yoko. In a situation where everyone panicked, Yoko was the only one who help steady and stayed cool-headed.
To me, this episode showed that the old Yoko before her depression over Kamina is slowly coming back.
(But then, the short hair doesn't do it for me either...)
I find Yoko's rifle is strange.
Her shots on the Sayrune in the first encounter and on the Gember had no damage, yet she was able to blow a big hole in Sayrune's shoulder for this episode???? Did her gun get stronger? :D

It's anime. Anything that doesn't make sense happens. If you think about it, why couldn't Yoko aim somewhere else instead???
Well actually Yoko's actions this time is pretty logical, if she were to aim somewhere else, Adiane would have just crushed Nia right then. But aiming at Nia (but slightly off) is a psychological ploy to trick Adiane. Well pretty standard hostage situation.
Also Sayrune is close and standing still, Yoko can aim carefully at the shoulder joint which is a weak part in the body. But beats me why her shot can still penetrate the armor.

I too find the scene quite weird, well.. if Yoko know it would penetrate the armor, she should just aim for the cockpit -_-; may be she doesn't know where it is. (althought she already saw it in ep 10).
Another thing that surprise me is Yoko still shoot even when she know Nia will still fall to death. Luckily Jii helped her in time... don't give me that Yoko was anti-cipating Jii..

An anime character die from such a short fall? That'd be a first.
She also has a variety of different bullets... the gun doesn't change but her bullet technology is always advancing thanks to her techno buddies.

My thoughts exactly. That, and Adiane was surprised at the exact point she aimed to, as it it was weak of sorts.

Well, if she aimed for the cockpit Adiane would probably kill Nia and that defeats the purpose of trying to rescue her. The shoulder joint is probably weak as well, at least in comparison to other parts. Also, the cockpit is probably well shielded because an attack to the cockpit would kill the pilot; so, the bullet may not be enough to pierce it.
Another thing that surprise me is Yoko still shoot even when she know Nia will still fall to death. Luckily Jii helped her in time... don't give me that Yoko was anti-cipating Jii..
I'm not so sure that Nia will die from the fall even disregarding plot shielding. The fall seemed to be about 30-40 feet, maybe 50 feet max. A fall from that height wouldn't kill a person unless he or she suffered damage to the neck; the more likely scenario is that Nia would break a shoulder or her collarbone, but hey that's much better than death. Also, Yoko may not have taken the fall into account. The situation was a bit of a crisis; Yoko may have only taken into consideration how to remove Nia from Adiane's grasp while completely forgetting about fall. Another possibilty is that she did take the fall into account, but shooting the shoulder was the only course of action she could formulate with any chance of success.
She also has a variety of different bullets... the gun doesn't change but her bullet technology is always advancing thanks to her techno buddies.
Correct. As stated int he show, her gun is basically a Gauss rifle. She says in episode 3 that it's electromagnetic allowing her to use a variety of ammunition from regular bullets to iron arrows (like the ones she used while hunting), and the electric bullet you see her commonly firing.
That information aside, Yoko shot TWICE and likely in the same soft spot to go straight through the Sayrune's weaker areas of plating. Yoko can take most units on with the rifle but even her rifle has had issues against heavily armored areas such as in Episode 5.

Very fun episode i like Nia's new hairdo makes her look more like one of the rag tag crew. I found Yoko's jeslousy quite humerous and in a way it made her seem more like girl. Im seen so speculation on it already but im thinking more and more about how Simon and Nia's relationship will progress. I cant figure out if she likes him or if its just her bubble optimistic nature to beleive in him regardless of the situation. Either way there is no doubt she has a positive effect on Simon and the rest of the crew.

Since Adiane wasn't moving, it could be that she put multiple shots into the same spot. Weakening and then penetrating the armor. And yes, this is her 2nd gun which was said to be more powerful than the old one.

ive actually wondered why yoko fired 2 shots with the first one just to blow away nia's hair...maybe that first shot was to take revenge on nia for being so dam popular :p

Nope, its not at the same spot. First shot misses and the contact point of the 2nd shot is untouched in the animation.
I will get you screenshot prove in a sec\

Before; the shoulder part is perfectly intact. The blue stripe is the 2nd bullet.

Clearly Yoko miss the first shot. Another explanation (other than revenge to Nia) is that its a test shot. Usually inexperience snipper or someone who is new to the gun or bullet snipes a test shot first in order to adjust actual shot accordingly. However let's look at this claim a bit..
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/5311/distancert5.th.jpg (http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=distancert5.jpg)
The distance between her, Nia and the shoulder is clearly less than 50 meters. She is an expert snipper and her shipper range is more than a mile ( her gun model is similar to the one in future weapon on discovery chanel aired sometimes ago). Clearly she doesn't need a test shot to shoot pass by Nia and hit the shouder.
So how should we explain the first shot, ofcourse she misses. Her skill isn't that Uuber as claimed I guess :\... (or she is aiming for Nia after all)
This episode was bursting with all the sorts of crazy hilariousness that can pop out of my mind.
Basically, Yoko is burning in a fit of jealousy because Nia's moeness is winning the eyes and the attention of all the perverted guys to pry their eyes upon her, while Yoko doesn't want any points for being modesty with her swimsuit clothing.
Fun can never end, can't it? When Adiane does summer hot and starts her big snake chase into the sea.
Viral is just dense as usual, since the poor guy still has not found out about Kamina's blaze of glory.
Nia against all odds and evil taunting trusts Yoko, and Yoko scores an ace to free Nia from Adiane's Sayrune at the cost of the former's hair. The old-man once again does the superman rescue.
And Adiane is blasted literally into oblivion a la Dragonball Z glory. I am definitely going to miss her. She was such a hilarious villain, and her seiyuu, Michiko Neya, gave her such a fantastic voice.

Nah, I think Nia with long her is better, but she is still cute. :3
Anyways, good episode. Yoko getting jealous, Nia showing her totally unpredictable skills and, of course, Simon slowly changing... A water drill, huh? Interesting.
Well Nia's hair was in the way of the first shot imo. After the obstruction was cleared, the second shot hit the target.
At least she's alive. Hair grows back.
Besides, she has an oversized jacket on in the promo so she looks moe still imo.
- Nia's hair! Noooooooooo!
- Did any one else notice that the long-haired guy in the jumpsuit disappeared after the first "ogling reaction" to the three "sisters" in their swimsuits?
- Kittan being a good big brother was a pleasure to see.
- The Yoko-swimsuit gag was great.
- Yoko being a witch-with-a-capital-B to Nia could have been a good story move, but they went about it in such a stupid way. I can see Yoko acting like that, yes. I can see her getting ticked about Nia getting attention the way she did. I can NOT see her acting that way just because she was ticked about Nia. She's been too cool a cucumber so far for that to be believable.
- The Leeron innuendo was just so wrong. So... wrong... *shudder*
- Viral is shaping up to be such an awesome villain.
- Aatenporo, the red-nosed, trigger-happy punk on the bridge... I hate him. Ooooh, how I hate him.

I don't think the happenings in this episode were what made Yoko really dislike Nia as she never liked her in the first place and the major thing the princess did to annoy her was the forget-Kamina dialog in episode 10.

honestly i thought about that too so i went back and watched it. What i got from it was the first shot was to get some of Nia's hair out of the way so she could have a better a shot with the 2nd one. Its clear that Yoko missed her target completly the first time which is something i cant see Yoko doing her sniping skillz are excellent. My take is given diffculty of the target either it was a test fire which quina suggested in the above post but i disagree. That is Yoko's new weapon but she has fought with it several times and im sure she is use to the weight and targeting by now. The second shot was right dead on target to me Nia's hair was long and thick im sure it was hard to see passed it for a percise shot

ok.. let's explore the claim for a bit;
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/2430/firstshotwd5.th.jpg (http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=firstshotwd5.jpg)
This is the first shot; as you can see the shot pass by Nia's right side hair
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/4424/positionwz1.th.jpg (http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=positionwz1.jpg)
This is the positioning from a snipper point; clearly shooting to the right side of her head is not in any way direct line to the shoulder.
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/1792/2ndshotat8.th.jpg (http://img131.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2ndshotat8.jpg)
The first and 2nd shot blew off the hair totally on different sides and in different spots. The 2nd shot pass by the left. The green box indicate the hair blew away by the first shot and red by 2nd.
Clearly, the first shot can not be intended to be used to clear the hair out of the way. In fact it is nowhere in the line of fire.
So I don't think thefirst shot intended to do anything other than she miss. (ofcourse unless she is aimming for her air in the first shot.)

Point taken but we still have no way knowing for sure what the first shot was fired for. As we both agreed I dont see a reason for Yoko to do a test shot especially if the shots were on different sides. The theory of maybe she was getting use to the new gun is a valid one. But as is stated this is not he first time she has used the new gun at long range and Yoko is not a noob sniper. Yoko did find Nia annoying but i just cant make my self beleive that she was so annoying to her that Yoko would take a shot at her.
Anybody else want to take a shot at it (no pun intended);)

Using guina's pics...
I think that Yoko tricked Adiane into moving Nia enough to the right (left from Yoko's POV) so that she could have a clear shot at the vulnerable shoulder joint. :D
First shot:

Yes sniper unless your saying i spelled it wrong. Maybe Yoko just need to get that first squeeze off to releive some stress. I mean she has been kind of stressed latley firing a couple rounds off even at a friends head might make you feel a little better (no that doesnt make it right and no please dont try it)

Methinks it was a little bit of column A, a little bit of column B; Yoko was venting her moo-cow angst AND setting Adiane up to get sniped.
I really don't like how they've changed Yoko myself, she was awesome early on...then went from being cool and kinda mellow (Simon lands directly on her breasts and she's smiling, far more concerned with his safety) to total stereotypical "tsundere" cliche.
Oh, and for the record I think Nia was absolutely right in telling Simon to forget about Kamina. As she meant it, it was not to say "he sux eff him" but to say "stop trying to be someone you're not". The hell with what Yoko and everyone else thought...he SHOULD be his own person and not eternally tethered to a ghost.
But then again, Nia has been bringing the truth and the realness to this show in pretty much every episode she's appeared in thus far. Kamina would've loved her.

I think that's pretty much over by now. She was never really "tsundere" and just was pretty traumatized by Kamina's death IMO.

Hey im not messing with Yoko not when shes that good of a shot. All men know that angry females with guns is not something you want to encounter. I am glad they didnt drag out the jealousy thing though. I will admit that Yoko is pretty hot i might let her hit me a couple time just for the hell of it LOL

hoho, lets explore that claim a bit more shall we
My 2nd and 3rd screen shot:
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/4424/positionwz1.th.jpg (http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=positionwz1.jpg)
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/1792/2ndshotat8.th.jpg (http://img131.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2ndshotat8.jpg)
These 2. are taken about 0.04 sec apart. They are both long after the first shot is fired. The mare movement you have seen in the picture is due to cemera zome + angle change not Nia movement.
More over; if she want to signal someone to MOVE OUT of the way. She would have fired to the left side (so she would move away clearing the way for the 2nd shot) not to the right in the first shot.
With all the reasons inspect, clearly the first shot is not a signal shot. But just a simple miss.... but if you don't think she simply miss.. read on;
There is however an explanation to why she miss..
Ofcourse, in distance less than 50 meter Yoko wouldn't have missed. However she has not taken into account Nia's Uber skill.
Yoko has aimed for Nia's head all along:
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/4045/33kz4.th.jpg (http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=33kz4.jpg)
However she misses because Nia dodge it! Recall earlier in the episode Nia was using her secret technique Mind Eyes to "cut" a moving water mellon in 1/2.
http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/140/eyeclosedgh2.th.jpg (http://img267.imageshack.us/my.php?image=eyeclosedgh2.jpg)
http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/7397/eyeclosed2by0.th.jpg (http://img518.imageshack.us/my.php?image=eyeclosed2by0.jpg)
She then is using the same skill to dodge Yoko's shot. She is closing her eyes so that she can concentrate.
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/1719/canttouchmj5.th.jpg (http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=canttouchmj5.jpg)
herher even Nia says so.
OR may be Yoko planned it all along after all..
http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/9573/yokoplntx3.th.jpg (http://img362.imageshack.us/my.php?image=yokoplntx3.jpg)
Stuffs inside the spoiler tags are jokes (ofcourse). The only reason for he first shot is a miss... Yoko is a human and she made mistake :\
I thought the first time was all to see if she could get through that side and the second was a test from the other side.

I don't think Yoko was messing Nia's hair willingly, she's just too responsible to do something that moronic.
The way I see it, She was trying to get the shoulder joint and Nia's head was in the way as soon as she had an opening she tried the shot. Considering Adiane was shaking the princess around like a rag doll it meant calculating a lot of erratic movement, and she missed.
Maybe Yoko was being too carefull, she was deviating too much to hit what was essencialy behind Nia...

Was that what they translate it as in the fansubs? That's a terrible translation. But who am I to say? :P
Can't remember what she said but it goes something like "...We'll be shooting at each other, are you that stupid?!"
Meh doesn't matter anyways.
And so we all spent around 2 pages discussing how/why Yoko shot Nia's hair...
Nice... that's what anime forums are for. Ha ha.
I wonder when is Simon is going to be 24/7 Gar? He's now only in Gar-mode during battles, or should I say he needs to "transform" into his Gar-mode by putting on his goggles first. So what abt the grown up Simon in episode one? Did he wear his goggles too? We won't know now but I'd think he'll look silly in them. At least Kamina's glasses are wicked looking.

Well, he'll definitely be Gar 24/7 after the time jump, but I'm not sure if he'll reach that point before it. It didn't seem like adult Simon had the googles; he wasn't wearing them in the scene in episode one. I agree that adult Simon would look silly in the googles though.
