Hope they go for +26 episodes this time around.
But regardless of that, it was just a matter of time before the announcement of a second season came around.
Can we expect the first promo at the end of Lucky Star? :)

Very good news! Can't wait.
Any speculation on what the title of the second series will be? I would guess "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya" (Suzumiya Haruhi no Shōsitsu). "The Sighs of..." strikes me as a weak name, and I still doubt they'll spend much time on the events of the second novel besides what they've already done. "The Boredom of..." was already used as an episode name in Season 1.

Quoting myself to emphasize what could be in season 2! :DAs to the substance of a possible second season, I'm to the liking of volume 4 with a dash of Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, Endless Eight and Snow Mountain Syndrome. Mix in another original episode from Tanigawa Nagaru and volume 2 and that's a full helping of fourteen episodes. :D
btw, the speculation thread probably needs to be closed, and could this thread get sticky-ed? ;)

The timing of this announcement more or less guarantees Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody is in, and that in turn makes the volume 4 storyline likely. Yeah, I think you're mostly correct.
I just hope they DON'T even try to animate "the sigh". After "Asahina Mikuru no Bouken episode 00" that part lost any meaning (and it's long and one of the weakest part of the novel).
CrowKenobi "menu" it's fine with me to (make it short, but explosive, like the first season). ;)

Maybe the "Haru-tards" are indeed overreacting, but who could blame them when Kyo-Ani is being so generous to their fans?
Your best bet to quell this hype is to join the anti-Haruhi brigade and vote against every one of their characters come the 2009 SaiMoe Tournament, whether fairly and squarely or by dubious methods, as with last year.

I have been looking forward to another season of Full Metal Panic forever. Unfortionatly it looks like their waiting until the last novel is released(Some time in September) before they animate the rest of the series.
Hopefully we get a new season soon.
Also if the new Haruhi is releasing on 7-7-2007 then wouldnt that be this coming saturday

From what I've seen in video interviews, KyoAni is a smaller company and only works on one project at a time.
Seeing as how Full Metal Panic's Plot is reaching the end of its arc(The main plot) it makes sense to wait and get the full story and not animate half and then wait.

Actually, if they worked on two projects at once, wouldn't the quality of both decrease because, according to Jehuty77, they're a smaller company? They'd have to split their attention and effort between two projects, instead of putting 100% [I hope] into one project.

Oh dear... the internet is going to explode :heh:
7/7/07 is probably the date for a trailer of some sort or a more substantial announcement.
According to Moon Phase, Haruhi season 2 is slated for a Fall/Winter 2007 release, an unnamed light novel adaptation in Spring 2008, and then CLANNAD in Fall of 2008...
It would suck if CLANNAD is really pushed back that far though. :/
As for the "unnamed light novel", I can only hope... (オワクロ!オワクロ!オワクロ!)

Well maybe they are trying to expand the company so they can work on more things at once? And besides, wouldn't production on LS be done by now? So they could have started some kind of work on Haruhi, and well the world wants it so maybe they have been working on both.

Well, it airs like every week, you'd think they'd have the whole series done in time for it to air..why would they be pumping eps out for the next week as it has to go on tv, that'd make the quality even less.

To be honest, I don't think Haruhi has enough episodes to justify pushing CLANNAD that far back. Especially since CLANNAD is getting a previewing in TBS Anime Festa next month. Plus, he said "it might be possible that CLANNAD is in Fall 2008"...

These are most certainly exciting times. The voices of the anti-Haruhi naysayers are but the sounds of gnats against the torrential optimism of the show's many supporters.
Having read the Baka-Tsuki novel translations (many thanks, Kinny Riddle and others), I'm all the more excited, as I found some of the later stories to be even more interesting than the ones animated in the first season. I'm gleefully anticipating Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, Disappearance, Endless Eight, and Snow Mountain Syndrome, all of which I loved reading. A part of me is still apprehensive over the possibility that Kyoto Animation might screw up or the second season doesn't match up to the hype coming from the first season (as many sequels do), but KyoAni has shown itself to be quite consistant in my eyes. So long as they remain fairly faithful to the original (and they have a good track record at this), I think the strong source material should put to rest most of my fears.
It has been a fantastic week for me so far. May this Saturday not disappoint.
Edit: I'm expecting Haruhi to come out in Spring of 2008. Just saying. I just think it'd be weird to have Haruhi come out before CLANNAD, when the announcement for CLANNAD was made so much earlier.

@Mirrinus: I think they'd be to terrified of the fans to screw up. It's like Gundam, once you've created your monster you have to feed it, otherwise you get what happened with Gundam Seed Destiny and lots of people will never let you live it down.

The Haruhi ED is almost *all* dancing, while the Lucky Star OP is not, so there's really just less material for people to imitate.

You speak Truth... sudden expansions are the deathstroke for many small companies. The mantra "do your thing and do it well" is key for longevity and quality. "Expand as fast as you can" is just a form of corporate cancer that almost invariably destroys what made a company special in the first place.
The Haruhi ED is almost *all* dancing, while the Lucky Star OP is not, so there's really just less material for people to imitate.
Well that's only cause Haurhi's was made into a full dance as an extra. The original version doesn't have a complete dance. They could also do the same to lucky star since it's OP is a parody of Haruhi.

I mean the details of course, like Cast, Crew, Airdate, Taglines, Production Plans etc.
It also seems that an abortion was made on Clannad for this year. I've read that the air date was pushed back to an unknown date in 2008. Maybe the fan pressure to do the second season of Haruhi ASAP overwhelmed them and Clannad had to be side-lined to get this done now, which worries me because now I don't know just how ready they are.
My other theory is that since Kadokawa seems to be excerising more and more control over what is happening with Lucky Star and Kyoto Animation as a whole, it's possible that Clannad was overruled by them in favour of Haruhi to tie in with the games and figurine line that are being introduced in the not to distant future. Which also might explain the sudden upsurge in Haruhi related products appearing that show. The Viral Marketing and all.

The term "Haru-tard" is horrible. We are called Haruhiist (or Haruhiistas in spanish) I believe the HAruhi Religion only works if you do what Haruhi says: go everywhere with a 1000 watios smile and never stop to do what you want.
I dont think KyoAni has so low budget. At least not like Bruce Timm and Co. (They edited the second part of a Justice League episode while the firts one was airing!!)
Don offend those who like Clannad but Suzuharu is faaaar more popular and the main reason for doing ANY series is the chance of make money and with Suzuharu you can make a lot, a lot, a loooooooot of money.
Actually the HAre Hare has a coreography for the full dance. I lost the links but I do have the storyboards and its sooo funny when Koizumi gets his solo dance. Jajaja
Haru-tard refers to those who are unable to think critically about the show. I *love* SHnY but that doesn't mean I don't realize it has a few faults or issues.
This forum has already dealt pretty severely with fanboi zealotry before .... I request that people please realize there are multiple points of view that are valid and don't shut brains down. :) :)

So long as we reserve the right to call out such people with the opposite viewpoint. I can respect people who explain their opinions well, even if I completely disagree, but I have a very low tolerance for those who make the mistake of thinking I should respect unsubstantiated and rash comments with more holes in its logic than swiss cheese.
Yeah, I'm starting to miss my poli-sci class...is anime discussion considered a decent substitute? That's probably why some of my posts have gotten lengthier recently...I feel the urge to keep my mind sharp...
Whatever the things, i sure hope they don't end up pushing Clannad back because of Haruhi2. I like Haruhi by all means, but this would be a very sudden (and uncalled for) change. I worry that KyoAni might shoot themselves in a foot with such a development. Doint both of the series at the same time would be the worst outcome possible ... we sure wouldn't see the KyoAni standard quality the company is being praised for. Either way - have to wait for the official announcement, but i hope things stay as they were intended to be, for the sake of stability and quality if nothing else.

Actually, I too am sort of hoping that CLANNAD will air this fall, followed by Haruhi in the spring, just because I was sort of expecting that all along. Also, I'm far more familiar with Haruhi's story than CLANNAD's, so CLANNAD would be more of a new experience for me, whereas Haruhi, as awesome as it may be, is still more like just seeing a story I'm already familiar with get animated. At the very least, I'd rather not see both airing in the same season for possible quality issues, even though I'm excited for both.
I haven't heard anything about an announcement suggesting that CLANNAD was pushed back to 2008. When was this made?
Edit: nvm, found it.
As far as i know, it is a fan started semi-rumor :p Scroll down to the bottom of This page (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=44299&page=26) for more info.

What do you guys think the story order will be? Chronological or still out of order? I can see merits and faults with both sides.
If it's done out of order again, then there's the problem of totally spoiling the ending of Disappearance. The anachronological order used in the first season worked well because none of the later stories blatantly spoiled the story of Melancholy. However, Snow Mountain Syndrome does reveal pretty much the whole conclusion to Disappearance, so that's going to be tricky to do anachronologically. And I really want to see Snow Mountain animated too...it's like Itsuki's greatest moment so far in the series, lol.
If done chronologically, the last story they can do is Where did the Cat Go?, assuming they're going to get through the Snow Mountain arc. I don't expect The Melancholy of Asahina Mikuru will get animated, as it ties in heavily to the 7th novel in the same manner that Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody did to the 4th novel. However, Where did the Cat Go? might not be such a strong conclusion to the season (although it would probably contain the highest amount of animated Tsuruya-san goodness up to that point). It might work if they inserted an anime original episode again at the end, and perhaps dip into the prologue of volume 7 (which takes place before The Melancholy of Asahina Mikuru).
Meh...speculation's cheap...
Whilst I realize this isn't perhaps the right thread for this, but people seem to discussing it in relation to the second season so what the hell... Was there ever an official announcement of an air date for CLANNAD? I'm just saying people seem to think (according to the rumours anyway) it is being pushed back when perhaps they had it planned this way from the start? I.e. to air Haruhi2 first.

I sleep late, wake up and the first thing I see is an announcement for a second season of Haruhi. You know it's a good day when the first thing you see in an announcement of a new KyoAni series. :D
Anyway, about Clannad, I don't think it's fair to speculate it was pushed back because of this. Anime series are often pushed back from their expected air dates. Besides, they'll probably want to release it about the same time as the movie from Toei like they did with AIR. It's entirely possible the movie has been having production delays and is the reason Clannad has ben pushed back.
Saying I'm looking forward to this would be an understatement.

Clannad isn't pushed back until we hear an official word, and we still have no official date on this sequel. My hope is that the second season of Haruhi Suzumiya will start after Clannad is over, and I can't see any reason why they couldn't do it that way.
Anyway, with that said, I'd hope that these series won't overlap each other. KyoAni have proven that their strength is the amount of care that they take with their productions, and I wouldn't understand why they'd wish to compromise that by stretching their resources over two concurrent projects.
And yeah, I'm seriously excited about this, but my attitude is, Clannad first, Haruhi after that.
Edit: Oh, crap, I've seen the official announcement. I can't help but be really disappointed.
Edit again: Or not. It's still not official, just a so-called likelihood.

My hope is that the second season of Haruhi Suzumiya will start after Clannad is over, and I can't see any reason why they couldn't do it that way.My thoughts exactly. As much as I liked Haruhi, CLANNAD has been what everyone thought as the next big Kyoani project. However, I fear they have been pushed to do an early release by the success of miss Suzumiya :(
What do you guys think the story order will be? Chronological or still out of order? I can see merits and faults with both sides.
Personally, I feel the disorderly organization of the episodes was one of the show's main wins in the first season. If they don't pull it in the second season, I'm going to be very, very disappointed. And, if it happens to be a 26-episode season, then it's really probable that they won't pull off the same again, since it's much more difficult to deliver when having that many episodes.

I just a sudden VISION of our Goddess standing over the KyonAni staff cracking her whip.
Kyon would be shaking his head
Koizumi have his eye close and smiling
Mikuru would be cowering
Yuki is reading as usually
And the Clannad characters would bound and gag.

Not really. Touka Gettan has 26 and all of them have been confirmed to air out of order. So it's possible to do that in large series.

Not really. Touka Gettan has 26 and all of them have been confirmed to air out of order. So it's possible to do that in large series.
Touka Gettan is perfectly in order. It's merely going backward chronologically in its storytelling rather than the conventional, going-forward.
But that's still a differnet order then it should be.
But that's still a differnet order then it should be.
The point is that Touka Gettan isn't a suitable show that can be compared to how the episodes of Haruhi's were ordered. :)
The point is that Touka Gettan isn't a suitable show that can be compared to how the episodes of Haruhi's were ordered. :)
Whatever.
Then just think of the show in half. Like each season so to speak could be put out of order then they put the 2 parts together and you get 26. It'd still be possible, cause that's what they'd be doing if this season was like 14 again and out of order. So you have 28 eps out of order if you combinded it to the first season.

In order or out of order will be fine for me. I would prefer out of order a little more just because thats how they did the first season.

Several months ago, I posted a potential episode order for the second season set in anachronological order, including Snow Mountain Syndrome, and ending with Disappearance episode 6, that didn't really cause much spoilerage. I do think it's possible to do it in anachronological order, it's just going to be really tricky if they're doing both Snow Mountain and Disappearance. I'm fine either way, but I can't really say I wouldn't prefer it to be out of order. However, I know there are lots of people who disliked the episode skippage, yet plenty more people who love Kyon's order.
At the very least, if they do do it in chronological order, there won't be any drama over the DVD episode order. ^_^

It wouldn't be that hard to mix up the order of episodes even at that length. Keep the major arcs in order (and not mixed with each other) and throw in the side-stories in between. Same as last time.

The problem is you can't really end with Disappearance (the main plotline) because Snow Mountain Syndrome builds off of the conclusion of Disappearance, and will spoil the entire story. If they're going to do it that way, they'd have to end with Snow Mountain, which kind of dilutes the impact of Disappearance, as it's no longer the "ending". And personally, while I loved Snow Mountain, I think the end of Disappearance makes for a much better climax than Snow Mountain.
The best way I can think of is to cut off episode 5 or so of Disappearance at the part where Kyon discovers the identity of the true culprit (middle of chapter 6 of Disappearance). Then air the second episode of Snow Mountain next (the first having already aired; it will be a 2-parter, since it's one of the longest "short" stories), saving the spoilerific dialogues for the second half of the 2-parter. This way, Snow Mountain won't completely spoil everything that's going on in Disappearance. Finally, use the last episode to show the final confrontation in Disappearance (second half of chapter 6), along with the epilogue, and maybe volume 7's prologue (since it ties into the story to conclude the final missing thread).
The main problem with this idea, though, is that I can just imagine the fan outcry over Disappearance 5, as that's going to be one insane cliffhanger. I'm afraid people will be upset over Snow Mountain 2 for interrupting one of the most climactic scenes of the 4th novel, lol. Shame, I really liked Snow Mountain, but it admittedly wasn't nearly as climactic.
I apologize if people think I'm spoiling too much. Let me know if it is so.
im looking forward to the long awaited return of a certain blue haired humanoid interface. i really liked vol 4 of the series.

I think you people are making a storm out of a glass of water (not sure if the setence makes sence in english). Toei and Gonzo do three or four series at the same time and nothing terrbile happens. There isnt a single guy doing all the work, you know? Im sure they have enough personnal to do both series at the same time.
And if they air simultaneously that wont be a problem either.
But I still insist that regardless of tastes, Suzuharu is much more popular and succesfull. You can tell because here in Argentina almost nobody knows Clannad but they all know Suzuharu.
Haru-tard refers to those who are unable to think critically about the show. I *love* SHnY but that doesn't mean I don't realize it has a few faults or issues.
Yeah, of course it has flaws like anyother series but overall its one of the best series ever made, at the same level with Evangelion, Cowbe and Esclafowne.
Actually you know what a great way of star the series will be?
Kyon starts telling Koizumi on the hospital what happened, and it will be hilarious if Koizumi interrupts telling the side-stories...Oy!! Koizumi Burosai! Im telling the story!!!

Well, damned. I'm going to be honest here, I'm going into this with very mixed feelings. I mean, I'm happy that they're going to make an official announcement on SHnY Season 2, as it's clearly one of my favourite of all time....but with the rumours going around that it could come at the expense of CLANNAD (TV), another KyoAni project I've been looking forward to since.....I dunno.
I think I'm beginning to understand the dilemma of Itou Makoto of School Days; caught between the cute, mysteriously alluring Kotonoha (CLANNAD), and the fiesty and fun Sekai (SHnY), how to choose? :heh:

You're getting both eventually anyway, so I don't think it's too big of a deal. I wouldn't necessarily count it against them. I'll just go with whatever is decided, knowing with confirmation that both will be before my eyes with time.
Although if CLANNAD does air first, that means we could go straight through Fall, Winter, and Spring with a Kyoto Animation show airing. If Haruhi went first, and has only 13-ish episodes as expected, we'll probably be left with a long break in between, unless CLANNAD starts in the winter season for some reason.
Great News for me.
Like i understand nothing is known about the real airing Date know. Even the airing Date of Clannad at Oktober07, was speculation because of Lucky Star would be ending at that time.
Is not worrying me if Clannad would air later because of ShnY2nd anyway: Yes i like to see some romantic/drama gamenovels adaption like Kanon2006, and i am sure i would enjoy Clannad, but they are not my Favorites like KyoAnis FMP and ShnY:p.

Very cool, can't wait to get some more info about it. There should be enough to get a decent season out of whats left in the novels at the moment, just. Anyway, I'm sure they could sneak some anime only stuff in there. From the pictures it looks as though they are definitely going to do Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, which would lead to Disappearance, I guess. Should be cool either way, plenty of Yuki fun, she gets to shine a lot more in this later stuff, shes a really potentially interesting character.
She (Haruhi) has a really weird lookin' getup in one of those pictures, some sorta futuristic sword deal-o heh, looks funky.
What is this Clannad, people are mentioning... *scuttles off to find information* Hope there is some info about FMP to, that would rock muchly. especially if any new anime season is like the novels. The end of this year for anime, between FMP (if they do it), MoSH and one or two others will totally rock.

Whoa it's amazing this thread has already gotten six pages since yesterday...
But I didn't really think that haruhi would get a second season because I thought the novelty would have died off already... Looking at the novels I could not really think of how a second season could continue, that is, if they wanted to introduce something groundbreaking. So I guess it's up to kyoani to work around moe.
But apparently the hype's still on so oh well... Do not get me wrong: Snhy is one of my favourite series- I merely thought it ended pretty nicely, already.

What's wrong with continuing the story? I thought the novels made it pretty clear that there was still plenty of story to be told...and since it was first in novel form, you can't really jump to "moe" as the cause.
The first season left lots of loose threads open that pointed to the plot of the second season. I thought they did an admirable job of sowing lots of seeds, particularly regarding the Tanabata festival and Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody. The second season would merely reap what has sprouted.

there should be a separate poll which asks
"which do you want to air first?
A) Clannad
or
B) Suzumiya".
But nonetheless, was Clannad the Spring anime/game which ties into Key's theme with Kanon being winter and Air being Summer? If so, then maybe Haruhi will fill in the time gap needed to launch Clannad in the spring. But imo, I think Haruhi for this fall is a bit too sudden. As for me I am wishing for a Clannad then Haruhi. Still great news either ways.
Personally, neither is my most-anticipated series from KyoAni. :heh: Regulars will know which series' announcement will make me scream like a 15yr-old fangirl and run around yelling and whooping incoherently. :p
Also, there is still the possibility of Planetarian, which might just make people like Skyfall rip off his clothes and streak on the streets. :heh:
In short, I am fine with either CLANNAD(TV) or SHnY 2 airing first.
Cheers.

My main gripe with the novels following the first one is that character development for everyone other than Nagato Yuki seems to have grinded to a halt. I'm 5 in and she's really the only character that has had any in depth focus on her post Volume 1 (I think she must be the authors favourite character). Sometimes I actually wonder if the Novel Series has an aversion to progressive character development as if it were episodical instead of serial because it seems to take 2 steps forward and 1.5 steps back with each novel after the first one and its not just because of the random order, I've actually gone out of my way to read them chronologically (unless that itself messes things up, which would be kind of strange).
If they want to make this second season good, I think they should pull in some other short stories that lend themselves to the other characters as well from beyond where I've read, if they are feasible. So there, I finally screwed up the courage to give my thoughts on what my ideal second season would be and how I would hope to see it structured.
@Skane: NO FULL METAL PANIC FOR YOU! :heh: Sorry, I would like to see more of that too. Maybe after the Haruhi hype and Key adaptations run their course, or maybe the Kadokawa/Bandai partnership will blossom further and Sunrise will take it for a fourth run.

Technically, the 2nd season SHOULD be Nagato Yuki's time to shine. Haruhi took the limelight last time after all, while Mikuru gets her turn later on. This is just author's method of focusing on individual characters, because everything had to be from Kyon's point of view. You can't tell a Haruhi-story the same way the "24" TV show does, with multiple plotpoints, because Kyon can only be at one place at a time. Unless certain characters get involved extensively with Kyon, they wouldn't even get lines.
Anyway, the author is in on the joke; one of the later plotlines has Kyon narrating to the readers along the lines of :
"It seems I have met a dead-end. Guess there is no choice but to go "there" again... What? Stop complaining about how predictable or boring it is! Yes, I know... As much as I hate to bother her, it is time to request aid from the most resourceful of all SOS-dan members."
(note: This is just the rough meaning from my memory, and not word-for word. Especially since it came from my Taiwanese edition novel)
The whole point of the story focused on Yuki is two-fold:
1. Yuki needs character development. When the first novel was written, the author did not even know he would get a chance to write a sequel. So now he had to deepen their characterisations one by one.
2. Yuki needs nerfing or everything would become too easy for Kyon. You will know what gets nerfed by the end of her arc.

Yeah, she is pretty OP'd in what she can do, while Haruhi can alter the world subconsciously Yuki does it consciously, she has near limitless power if she wants, still I do enjoy her story arcs. I'm only up to book 6, just started Charmed at First Sight LOVER (more Yuki from the looks, though Haruhi looks like she is going to stick her nose in), so I'll have to see how that shapes up, only way I can think of a nerf to her sticking is being cut off from the IDSE, and being made a little more human.

Cool, a Season 2 Haruhi announcement...I guess it was inevitable that a season 2 announcement was going to be made...I mean didn't anyone find it kind of weird for an announcement of three Haruhi games?
I mean first it was just the PSP game announcement, and then came the ps2 Haruhi game announcement and then a Wii Haruhi game...I mean, this must have been a sign that a major announcement was going to be made concerning season 2.
Anyways, with season 2 almost about to break out, I'm guessing the one main story that they'll put in there is the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.
I mean that might be the new title for this season.
As for a season 2 with 26 episodes, it might be a possibility.
It seems Kyoto animations are making a habit of making a 14+ episode season of a show, ever since they did Kanon.
But it seems we wont be getting Haruhi season 2 too soon though...Clannad is up next after Lucky Star, so atleast tidbits of new news on what this season will be about, will keep our hopes up and stuff.

Uh, sure... because there's no middle ground, right? If you don't love the series, you must hate it, right? Right!?
Give me a break. It's comments like this those which make me agree with people like Kaioshin_Sama about the over-hypeness of the series' fans.
Pardon me, I was being sarcastic in my post. I apologize for not being clear enough. I purposely added quotation marks over "Haru-tard" as an attempt to have a laugh at myself.
I don't deny being a "passionate" fan, I do admit that there are some within the "hardcore fandom" that I'd rather keep a distance from.
But what irks me is SOME people (not just here) just like to throw us all in one basket. Most of us here just enjoy and admire what is a jolly good show (or studio) with high production standards, and yet they simply brand ALL Haruhi-ists (or "Kyo-Ani-ists") as irrational. Well I can equally say the anti-Haruhi-ists are just as irrational, based on some of their behaviour on last year's 2006 SaiMoe tournament in 2ch, they're just hating Suzumiya Haruhi for the sake of hating it.
Though I concede maybe I'm getting a bit edgy when it comes to criticisms, especially with shows where I have a passion on. Kind of like how I can't stand people wishing ill-will on my favourite sports team. I do realize there's a difference between sports and anime, so I will take this as a lesson to be more tolerant, so bear with me. :D

I am of the opinion that nearly all anime is good to one extent or another. Its a great way to pass the time, and lots of them have very engaging back-stories, plots, characters and so on. A lot of the anime I have watched I have been quite dubious about watching in the first place, MoHS was one of those. I just couldn't see how a story about a girl with her own club with an alien, ESPer and Time Traveler could make any sense or go anywhere. But I decided to watch it, and low and behold I loved it. So I try and stick to the belief that all anime is good, and that there is not enough to watch, and they need to make it faster! I don't particularly care about the order that its made in, just as long as it is made.. before I die of old age.
So lets just cheer the studio's on to make more and more to sate our voracious appetites. :)
For a moment there I thought that DVD-collectors box was a framed picture of Haruhi. One of those ones with the shiny-holographic-moving-background ones.

And they can make a full season with all the little stories of Editor in Chief Straight Ahead!! even with different animation technics for each.

Yay!
Months back, a reliable blog (the same one which first shared the existence of the second Zero no Tsukaima series) cited from an undisclosed source that production for SHnY second season had been pushed forward from fall next year to fall this year... But then I heard about Clannad coming up, and although at the time no date was set for Clannad, the fact they announced it before SHnY and it was going to be 26 episodes caused me to dismay at the possibility of new SHnY soon.
Now that it may be the reverse, I feel like I know a little bit of how the fans of Clannad do. Indeed I was looking forward to Clannad as well since I've only heard good things. ;_; There are, I think, uncountable number of stories out there which deserve to be adopted into anime by a great studio like KyoAni.
On a side note, it may be Saturday but if it's not even noon yet it could make sense that the announcement hasn't yet occurred. o.o

There's some guy following her. Edit: Oh, my mistake. He's helping her.

Ah it's not live after all. I just left the site and came back to find it started again. How long is this video though ^^;
www.haruhi.tv sure is taking a long time to load too. Seems like it is also has some kind of flash video though.
wtf, that girl is jumping over the fence...
did they kill nagato , and now try to hide the corpse ?
btw harhuhi.tv seems to be up again.
Is this...Three years ago ( in story ) when Haruhi brooke into the school and started to do alien sign with Kyons help... Kyons is obviusly carring Mikuru... Sure looks like school to me anyway...
But this was in Midleschool and this footage comes from the real school that was used for the highschool in the SHnY or ?

It's just supposed to be a video related to the announcement, and well that's all that really matters ^^
Perhaps you are analysing this more than it should be ^^;
BTW, for anyone that hasn't noticed, those photos in the "newspaper article" in one of the scans eggplant linked to in first post is from what happened in the video. Anyway, has anyone seen the whole video yet?It's still going at about 21:19 for me ^^;
Edit: nvm, the video's finished, nothing special appeared at the end though. So perhaps the flash video on www.haruhi.tv will have something but that's not loading for me. Maybe there's too many people visiting the site. Is it (the video) loading for anyone else?
Haruhi leaped to the inside of the fence and opened the lock on the fence with a key. Where'd you get those keys from?
"I stole them when no one was looking. It was too easy."
She was truly a pickpocket. Haruhi slowly slide open the metal fence and waved at me. I walked towards the little girl, who was one head shorter than her future self three years later, holding Asahina-san up properly.
Next to the entrance of East Junior High was the track field. The school complex was opposite us. Haruhi started to walk diagonally across the dark track field.
It's good that it was so dark, since she wasn't able to see clearly my face or Asahina-san's. In three years time, Haruhi would never have thought that she had met me and Asahina-san while she was in her first year of junior high. So it was good this way, or it'll become troublesome.
Haruhi went straight to the corner of the track field and led me to the back of the sports equipment storage. Inside was a rusty wagon, and a chalk-drawing machine hanging behind its wheels, as well as a few bags of chalk powder.
Leaning by the fence, the face that turned and looked at me was indeed younger than the commander of the SOS Brigade that I know.
Leaning by the fence, the face that turned and looked at me was indeed younger than the commander of the SOS Brigade that I know.
"I had these hidden beforehand in the storage house during the evening, pretty clever huh?"
Haruhi beamed, she then carried the bag of chalk powder, which was nearly as heavy as her, onto the wagon and pushed the handle. The way she slowly pushes the wagon made me realize how young she really was. I guess junior high students are still more or less kids in their first year.
I carefully placed the sleeping Asahina-san down and let her lean against the wall of the storage house, please sit here like a good girl for now.
"Let me do it! Give me that thing, you go carry the chalk-drawing machine."
Should I really be helping her? All this time I have been driven around like a slave by Haruhi, she was like a robot that went astray and won't stop until she has destroyed everything. She was still the same from the past all the way to the present. It seems a person's inherent nature won't change so easily in the space of three years.
"Follow my instructions and draw the lines. That's right, you there. Because I need to watch over you from somewhere afar and see if you've made any mistakes. Ah! You've drawn it wrong there! What're you doing!?"
To be able to order around a high school student she never met before without even flustering, there's no doubt this is indeed Haruhi. If I had met this sort of junior high schoolgirl for the first time, I probably would have thought she's mentally insane.
If I knew her before meeting Nagato, Asahina-san and Koizumi, that is.
That is exactly what is happening in the video.

Nah, not working for me either. It looks like the flash video in the web-newtype site has actually been taken down, so it was indeed a one-off event. So now we just have to wait to see if the one on the main Haruhi site is a new video or a repost.

Kaoru Chujo
2007-07-07, 13:16
It's 126mb because it's 22:50 long, the same length as an anime episode, more or less. I don't know which is more amazing: that KyoAni and Kadokawa would come up with another startling piece of viral marketing like this, or that I would watch it all the way through, wondering what Haruhi was berating him with, or who the actors are. I think there is a small chance that is indeed Aaya and Sugita. That would help explain why they used someone who looks older than a middle-schooler.

Seems way beyond what is necessary (length wise)....exactly what I imagined therefore. I knew what they doing about 15 seconds in so I stopped it and sort of predicted it to begin with actually as I've gotten used to how Haruhi related videos work.
It's yet again obviously for the fans of the novel as well judging by the location of the video online and it's nature. Only a fan is going to know what is going on, but anyone else will probably turn it off in the first couple minutes. Therefore it's not so much a trailer/commerical/advertisement what have you as another treat for the hardcore fans (who must be letting their belts out about now)who were already going to watch it anyway.
It's quite possible that this WAS the announcement. It wouldn't surprise me as the last time we got an "announcement" it was the Konata going "Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu~!" one.
Can someone make that into an avi or something? My Flash player got screwed up somehow and I can't get any sound on Flash videos (which is everything in the Internet).

The length does seem a bit excessive, but I haven't seen it yet, so I can't say much regarding the soundness of this decision. Heck, it's almost an episode in its own right at that length.

Just to make it clear: I thought it was great. There is a value in experiencing something like this that you just can't get from any number of ordinary advertisements or even anime episodes. This is actual art, unlike most things one sees. KyoAni and Kadokawa are thinking outside the box. If one stays inside the box of ordinary anime or ordinary commercials, one can't appreciate it.
Not that this needs to be repeated any time soon. Once is enough. But for me those were 22 minutes better spent than 90% of anime episodes I can think of. I think you have to pay close attention to enjoy it, though, watching all the details and wondering what's going on and what's going to happen next. I expect that it was done by Yamakan, the original director of Lucky Star, who also did the three-minutes-of-Yuki-reading Haruhi episode, which I also thought was great.
I am a sucker for this kind of thing, though, so your mileage can obviously vary. I've spent a lot of time watching excruciatingly boring/interesting things like this in art galleries.

Kinda missed this one guys:
http://zepy.momotato.com/2007/07/06/yamamoto-yutaka-leaves-kyoto-animation/
Lucky Star ex-director, Yamamoto Yutaka, has apparently left Kyoto Animation since June and has become freelance, according to his official mixi community and an interview in Otona Anime magazine. Yamamoto Yutaka is often known by fans for having been responsible for 50%~70% of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu’s success, and many have expected him to have become the director for the 2nd season. The reason for leaving Kyoto Animation is not yet known.
I can’t really call 100% reliability on this yet because I haven’t seen the magazine interview myself however.
Those who found the video pointless, should go read the novels or wait for the 2nd season.
Maybe you should read novel 3 right now so that you can whack yourself in the head for thinking that you've wasted a portion of your life watching the video.

Well I read the novels and know the point of the video, but I still didn't watch the whole thing as it would have been a waste of time for me since I already knew what it was going to be about. It kind of makes me appreciate what it might be like to have the job of reviewing security camera video tapes.

Haru-tard refers to those who are unable to think critically about the show. I *love* SHnY but that doesn't mean I don't realize it has a few faults or issues.
You would think so, because what you wrote makes a lot of sense. However, it's used more indiscriminately, and it is done so by design. Harutard is a corruption of Narutard, and I'm pretty sure it was coined on 4chan as part of a Haruhi backlash. (If it's intentionally offensive, Internet-born, and it has even a tangential relationship with Japan, there's a good chance 4chan was somehow involved.) These backlashes are fairly common and always stupid. Currently, there are Lucky Star and Gurren Lagann backlashes.
In case you were wondering, I believe the expression "moe blob" was originally coined for Mikuru, but it is now used for any character who is viewed as being moe for the sake of being moe. "The slut" is Yuki, for reasons that escape me, but it's best to call her that it in the form of a question. Tsuruya is Lol-tan, and she still has goddess status. Ryouko is also still held in high esteem, because she's a little unstable. And that's my lesson for the day on the curious vernacular of 4chan. :)

Yamamoto Yutaka leaving KyoAni for real (velocity 7's post) would be a disaster for KyoAni, in my opinion. As far as I can tell, he was the guy with something special: he wrote and directed the Haruhi ED and the LS OP and first ED, as well as the Haruhi concert ep and the Yuki reading ep: the things that were most interesting.
He did direct an episode of LS a couple or three back, but that would have been done by June, so it could be true he left then. Bad for KyoAni, good for anyone else who uses him as well as they did. Hopefully, they can still use him. Artistically, he set the tone for this show. I don't think the change of directors made much difference. The writers, storyboarders and episode directors remain the same.
FatPianoBoy
2007-07-08, 01:44
Er... if the change in directors didn't make much difference, then why is it so bad that KyoAni lost him? ;)
Yanno, one reason I don't really come into this subforum (or certain others) anymore is because I really don't want to have to turn every single discussion into a defensive justification about why I like something or other.
I'm willing to debate when it comes to it, but not on a forum where I just want to be a fan, and enjoy something without that thing being slammed and denigrated.

Yes it would seem that it has a spring theme and just because it has such a theme doesn't mean it has to be shown in it's respective season. Also, if the themes of those animes/games is as so, then what would be Fall?
If anyone is offended by my offtopic response, don't take it personally.

Planetarian ;)
@dkellis: The Haruhi threads used to be a really nice place, but recently it's become weighed down with it's share of idiots (at least it isn't as bad as the Claymore forum), which makes it difficult to keep any kind of proper discussion going.
Mirrinus
2007-07-08, 14:12
Planetarian doesn't really have seasons, according to its setting...the closest I can think of for Fall would be ONE, but that's tecnically Tactics, not Key/Visual Arts (same actual people, though).
AIR wasn't broadcasted during the Summer either, so I don't think Kyoto Animation is bound to the story's season.

Although it would be important to guage your audience. Here on AnimeSuki, it's more like preaching to the choir, and the choir may take such a comment the wrong way. Especially if you don't show proper discrimination.
It's also a problem when a person can't even express their love for a show without being accused of being a ****tard.

Guys, guys, this release is a thing of joy, not arguments.
I'm just gonna state my opinion here. I LOVE picking apart Season 1. Heck, I even started to pick at the promo (it was dated yesterday--does that make today 3 years ago??) The purpose of a "discussion" (as in discussion board) is to state both the good AND the bad. Like, "hey, I totally hate episode 7 (airing order) for this reason, that one and that one," seems to be perfectly understandable. In order for something to be perfect, it must have faults. yes, i know. That was a paradox. Don't bash people for finding those faults... Haruhi is not perfect. Kanon is not perfect. Nothing is perfect.
did any of that make sense? because if it didn't i just made a total idiot of myself.

One of the posts in this very thread told you everything you need to know using a section of the translated novel.

Trust me, your bet is hard to win. You would need to read quite a few things to understand the "what's it suppose to mean", in particular. If you don't even know Mikuru, you have a LOT of studying to do...

That is exactly what is happening in the video.
ok, but why are they doing it? what are the lines about?
what does it mean?
and where are they from?

Fine. I'll bite.
location
Haruhi's middle school
act in progress
Drawing alien signs on the athletic field
occupations (two students, one time traveler, right?)
More like, one normal high school student (we think), one time traveler, and one middle school student who may possess nigh-omnipotent god-like powers
who the people that are in it are (haruhi, kyon, and mik...something...)
Haruhi, Kyon, Mikuru
where they are from
North High School, plus whichever year in the future Mikuru is from
what they're doing
Vandalizing school property with alien symbols
what it's supposed to mean
The alien sign they're drawing translates to "I am here."
just that one little promo video?

Watch the anime, and then read the novel with the link given above.
You'll be your own best friend. You'll not only win the bet you'll get to enjoy a great anime/light novel.
Plus if you really tell him the answer but can't answer simple question from the anime, he'll know you cheated anyway.

The voices of the anti-Haruhi naysayers are but the sounds of gnats against the torrential optimism of the show's many supporters.
As if thats really surprising ? Most anti haruhi nuts dont actually hate the show, they are just the "HAY GUYS LOOK AT ME I HATE SOMETHING POPULAR AM I COOL NOW ? I AM AN INDIVIDUAL BECAUSE I HATE SOMETHING POPULAR IM COOLER THEN YOU LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL 1111 eleven" type.

I don't know why I bothered posting the link to the novel translation a while ago. The answers are all there, either do that or wait for the anime to come out.
Don't want to sound nasty but a word of advice: Next time don't go asking questions when the answers are to be found so easily, especially when there's a link provided so you don't have to Google it.

Ah, the true power of the internet; "hi total strangers, please help me cheat"
Hope the bet was worth it. At least $50.
Anyways, one good thing is that this reminded me of the fan translations of the novels. I read through the first one then forgot about the site; I'll have to go back and read the rest.
i've been reading the novel (have only read up to now volume 2) but is it me or does Haruhi really don't want say jealous but (sorta jealous in that way) gets mader every time Kyon looks at Mikuru for a long period of time it's gotten to the point of punching or elbowing him in the stomach.

Yeah, its almost like she is jealous but doesn't notice it, she's denying it or something (see spoiler).
The Valentines day thing was kinda sweet, but just goes to show that her years of being 'miss seclusion' has borked her social skills, I thought she was being kinda sneaky at least for her, she doesn't seem to want to act out and be noticed, so she roped Yuki and Mikuru in on her plan, and included Itsuki as a recipient rather then just Kyon. (Though, I don't really know how Valantines' Day works in Japan apparently what happens in the book is kinda similar to what really happens?).
Then again she could just want to be the center of attention .
well in japan i believe it's called white day in which girls give guys chocolates but anyway i hope by the end of volume Haruhi x Kyon end up together i really hope the author does put them together as a couple
FatPianoBoy

White Day is exactly one month after Valentine's Day (March 14th). Guys typically reciprocate the ladies who gave them chocolates with gifts proportionate to the chocolate they received from or their feelings for each.
ohhh ok then my mistake. I just finished volume 4 and its very late im tired but i would like to ask for the people who have read all of the volumes so far (that would be 10 right) is their any indication that there could possibly be a Haruhi x Kyon pair because if there is not and they don't end together that would be a great dissapointment

One of the funniest scenes in Snow Mountain Syndrome is when they go to sleep. Even after Itsuki explanation about it there is one thing that bothers me
Kyon saw Mikuru and Haruhi saw Kyon, so its easy to asume that they saw the person they like the most. And that is why Yuki saw Kyon. But then why Itsuki saw Kyon and, more important, Mikuru saw Haruhi?? Jaja I suspected of Itsuki but not of Mikuru.

Nope. Girls give guys chocolates on valentine's day. Guys give something in return to the girls on White day. It's all a giant conspiracy from the Japanese confectionery companies, and everyone knows it. But they do it anyway.:D

Is moonphase a japanese or english site/forum? Regardless, might I view the announcements? :D
I'd be crushed if Clannad was to be in the fall of 08, I was so ready to see Nagisa, and Tomoyo...
But I'm not gonna lie, I'm pumped about the second coming! Snowy mount, time travel x2, and normal yuki moe mode FTW!!!
Altogether, I'm extremely hyped, and depressed...(if the Clannad news is true)
Aren't these two bad combinations? O.o;;

The way I see it, we're going to get both eventually, and it's better to know that both are coming. I'm eager for both, although I might prefer CLANNAD first just a little bit more because I'm less familiar with that story. But CLANNAD might take a long time (possibily more than 2 cours, if they want to do it completely), so that could push Haruhi further back. Either way, though, it's an exciting time to be a fan.

No. Kyon dies, thus bringing a pall of sweet tragedy to the whole series...
Okay, I'm yanking you, I have no idea. Nagaru is a tease and he's still having Kyon and Haruhi being selectively blind to their mutual attraction. Nagaru drops a lot hints but you never know if he may decide to completely twist the audience's expectations.
Or rather, Haruhi knows she likes Kyon but will never be caught dead admitting it and leaves very little evidence testifying to the fact. Kyon is either lying through his teeth to the audience or being clueless. Probably a little of both. It's actually kind of cute, since they seem to have a natural working relationship that most high school couples only pretend to have, even when they're "official."
Itsuki, Mikuru and probably Nagato are aware that Kyon and Haruhi are an unofficial couple. Itsuki has openly stated that he finds Haruhi attractive. Nagato is your typical blooming "emotionless" girl. Mikuru is still terrified of getting in between Haruhi and the object of her affections. Itsuki has a theory or two on the idea that the Kyon X Haruhi pairing may be less of an accident than it appears to be on the surface. (Well, more like speculation that does little more than make us question *what* Kyon is.)
oh well thanks for it maybe by the end they can become more of an official one

Now, now, you're thinking like teary-eyed fan and much less pragmatically than I would approve of:
Haruhi and Kyon have obvious parallels of the myth involving Orihime and Hikoboshi. Effectively, Orihime and Hikoboshi can only meet once a year on Tanabata (unless it rains, in which case the meeting cannot occur).
Maybe Haruhi and Kyon are only destined to meet when all the planets are in alignment (or something along those lines)? It's quite possible given that Kyon is himself is as much a mystery as Haruhi is. (If Haruhi is not aware of her powers. What is Kyon not aware of about himself?) Tanabata possibly be foreshadowing that their relationship is doomed from the start. It does definitely suggest that their meeting has certain timeless quality about it. (The power of myth and all that.)
It depends, of course, entirely on whether Nagaru wants to take the series to a slightly less whimsical place. I'm hoping Nagaru is building up to some sort of stunning revelation down the line that was as engaging as when Haruhi was revealed to be not-so-ordinary.
Tragic love? Oh yes. Would that make you sad as a fan? Oh yes.
Would it immortalize the Haruhi series? Very much so. Nothing beats a good catharsis, but I suppose I'm more of a masochist than most people.

anyway would i mind if they did not end up together i'll be a little dissapointed but not that much, this was not intended to be romance anime at that start it was something extra for us to debate. I have enjoyed reading the volumes and can't wait for the rest to be translated and will be awaiting the 2nd season as well just gonna have to wait and see what the author does. And by the way you TwistedReality in a earlier post you posted that Koizumi said Haruhi was quite beutiful id be remicent if I did not mention that Kyon has also mentioned it and on more than one occasion

("Remiss" is the word you're looking for.)
Yes, Kyon did mention that Haruhi was drop-dead sexy. That's not really my point. Koizumi has actually openly expressed his envy over Kyon's closeness to Haruhi, and it does come up again outside of the "Day of Sagittarius" episode. It's not simply that he considers Haruhi hot, he also admires her energy and personality. Kyon usually gets annoyed and brushes Koizumi off whenever he tries to reveal Haruhi's virtues as a prospective lover. He's usually the one that also forces Kyon to give her a fair assessment of her behavior, instead of letting him just brush her off as being insane. Mostly I took this to be Koizumi's way of looking after Haruhi -- that is his job after all. Aside from it being his job, however, Koizumi has come to sympathize with Haruhi quite a bit.
First Boy Wins:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main.FirstGirlWins
Which is why Koizumi won a lot of points with me. He's the kind of guy who'll never show how he really feels about something and just ends up choking it all back and smiling. He has a sense of humor and a certain measure of self-awareness. He knows he'll never register as more than a blip on Haruhi's radar and just accepts it. He's forced to play a bit-part and affect an air of calm, and does it so often that he comes to identify with being nothing more than a smug facade. That, and he's the guy who pulls up all the really interesting bits of commentary, speculation and philosophy.
In any case, romance is still a pretty major theme of Haruhi, even if it's not a romance anime per se. Most of the original conflict was Haruhi and Kyon's dissatisfaction with life, and most of that gets resolved once they meet each other. Even though Yuki was technically responsible for the conflict for Disappearance, it mostly serves to highlight just how adjusted Kyon had become to the lifestyle that Haruhi has created for him. Haruhi has effectively become his entire social life.
