Welcome to the character discussion and favorite character poll for Higurashi Kai (2nd season). I have selected the seven major characters from the second season for the polls. However, you are free to discuss any other characters as well. Remember, please don't just blot "XXX is my favorite character" without giving an acceptable reason.

I suggest that you do not read this until she appears in the animeI anxiously await the appearance of Hanyuu in this series, moreso that her uber moe-ness is exponentially raised by being voiced by Hoccha. But in many ways one cannot end this wonderful series without her entrance into the stage. Who else can go up against XXXXXX who has all the resources against a group of pre-pubescent kids? Without her entrance into the arena, miracles will not occur and without her help Rika won't be able to break free. And who else represents the epitome of spiritual guidance of Hinamizawa? Hence, my choice of the 2nd series goes to Hanyuu.

Just finished watching the dvd versions of Hagurishi 1st season and I have to say...ohhh GOD the blood and gore. LOL :heh:

Well orignally my favorite and still up to now is Rikka, but due to Shion's great character (MAN DID I REALLY SAID THAT?!! After she killed lotsa people? O_o) development, I kinda liked her better than Rikka. Another reason is that Rikka is too loli for me Iam gonna go with Shion since she's a bit more womanly :P
Especially now that with her new character designs and images with the 5 original characters makes her a great addition, not just a plot character behind her sister.

I love horror/suspense/thriller/gory/mystery movies and Hagurishi is one of best anime that gave that feel.

I voted (and so far am the only one to vote for) Satoko. At first she seemed to be nothing more than a little brat, but as the series went on I was quite amazed at just how much she's had to deal with in such a short while. I managed to empathize with her plight and began to see the hidden side she had.

Man I always have a prob with these threads....I love Rika since she's so freaking cute and Rena scares the crap outta me and I love it!! So hard to choose! So in the end I choose Rena again...anyone want some rice balls :heh:

Same here with the problem with these threads part. XD Well I still love Keiichi-kun since he's really awesome and he's played by one of my favorite seiyuus. XD Next is Rika, she's just reallly cute and I love her dark side.

I ended up choosing Keii-chan again so um yeah. Go Keii-chan!

Find it a bit strange that this thread is created when only one episode of Kai has been aired and really only 1 of the 7 characters on the poll made a proper appearance. :heh:

Anyway, both Rika and Keiichi scored alot of points for me in the answer chapters of Higurashi, but I still voted for Rena in the end. :p I just love how she's different from all the conventional cute characters - she has all the cute elements, and yet she can be sharp and motivated when she needs to be. Oh, and she just blows me away when she's in her white dress and cap. I don't really know why, it just works for me. ;) レナレナ万歳！

Top three (or four?) favourite characters in my book after Higurashi Kai the game (probably will remain the same after the anime too):

1. Rena (Go Go Rena! You'll always rule Higurashi! ;) )
2. Rika and Keiichi (they're both very cool, I couldn't decide who's better)
3. Hanyuu (just for her uber moeness)

p.s. Mion only has 1 vote? What happened to all her supporters in the first series?

Totally rika cuz of her kawaiines i still remenber that scene in himatsubushi-hen when mamoru first met rika and she does all that cute sounds and movements god i love that scene:D,hope i see more like that.

I suspect in this series Mion will be much less important than she was in the first.

Agree that I find this kind of poll usually difficult. Not sure who I'll put my vote in this moment (whenever I do, it seems I regret the decision for acting too quickly).

Right now I'd put Rika and Keiichi at the top with Rika holding the top spot. She's just a great character on so many levels. Of course extremely cute in how she behaves you can't help but like her. But also you've got this tragic heroine kind of feeling with her living through so many situations and being killed so many times. Seeing your friends go into madness and do horrible things. I feel incredibly bad for her and am impressed by her ability to keep moving forward.

From the arc last season especially I gained a lot of respect for Keiichi. Most of the time he really cares about his friends and will go really far for their sake (like with Satoko). While he's far from perfect I do like the qualities he has and the effort he put forward after creating that miracle to remember the horrible thing he did.

So not sure right now where I'll vote. But if I was forced it'd probably be Rika.

I'm going with KJ on this one.

Higurashi didn't really have a moe character. Now they do. Also, I think her coming to the anime will change the perspective of people who only know about the anime. I'd rather like for them to stop saying "They just go crazy and kill each other." When describing HnNKn. But I doubt that could ever change? Well let's just hope Au au au will change there thoughts about Oyashiro-sama. :D

OH! And because she's just my favorite. :3

I voted for Keiichi, just because his presence in Hinamizawa makes a 'Happy Ending' possible at all. Just call him "Mr.Catalyst-for-a-Miracle"!

I would've voted Hanyuu just because she's so honourable for her ability to withstand or Rika for her perseverance through all her trials but... Keiichi's already shown us his integral part at beating the tragedy in Tsumihoroboshi; and because of that, I believe he has a lot more to offer for our characters.

I didn't really declare anything that's a spoil... I only stated the possibilities for a "Happy Ending", nor did I state what Hanyuu does, or what Rika's trials are (though they're pretty much obvious at this point of the series)... I'll gladly put the second part in spoilers if people begin to think its a problem, however.

I voted for Keiichi, but this show is pretty much all story-driven. So I don't feel too deeply for anyone. Although I must say Rika's "niipa" is the cutest thing ever.

I was having a tough decision between Rena and Mion and Shion and Rika and Keiichi and Hanyuu so I took Hanyuu for the easy way out >_>.

Rika for me, she shows to most depth as a character and while she didn't get as much focus in the first season, the second season is really starting to show off the strong points in Rika's character from her undeniable charm and her feelings of desperation and inevitability. And her Mii~ and nippa!! are so cute.

I agree this thread should have been postponed awhile. With the exception of Rika and Satoko, most of the characters have really not gotten any screentime at all. That's what it feels like for the main characters as well, even if it's not completely true.

I'm still rooting for Tomitake, but I've seen him hardly at all in the second season.;-;

I'm reserving my vote until I see all of it. From the first season, I loved all 6 of the main characters. Everyone was likable at first, yet much deeper than they appeared. There were no weak points as far as characters went in Higurashi 1 :D ...though Satoko was not developed enough.

First time around I voted for Keiichi. He was awesome in Tsumihoroboshi-hen. One of my favorite scenes in all of anime is when he hugged Mion. Although, I rewatched the 1st series months later and oddly enough, since she was on the bottom my list when I voted on the forums, it was Shion who really captured my heart. She's completely my number 1 now :D

As for Kai, I don't expect a lot of the light to shine on Shion, rather, I expect to see a lot of Rika and Keiichi and Hanyuu. My vote will likely end up for Shion or Keiichi, but like I said, I'm reserving my vote for the end.

Yeah hard to vote at the moment since I'm positive my opinino on some characters will develop as the series goes along. There are a lot of likable characters here so making a choice won't be easy. Think though especially Satoko will get more fans after what she's already been through this season.

that "always genki club leader" and "hidden cute girlish side"　of mion's character is number one ★

Yeah I`m still left happy holding back on the vote so far. Though I`m still sitting on the Rika and Keiichi split. Still not certain which one I would choose at the end. Rika dealing with all the times she has gone through and still able to move forward. Though Keiichi has shown some pretty smooth moments as well beating down on fate. Maybe after the series is done it will be easier to make a pick.

Me too. Rena would have been my number two, but the more I see of Kai, the more I think see will not be an important character. I guess the chances of oyashiro-mode are slim in Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi-hen. T_T

An extremely close second would be Keiichi. The creamy filled desert conversation he had with the one baseball player, priceless.

The one I like the most is Keiichi. He starts out as an outsider in the village of Hinamizawa just like the viewer and I can really identify with him in the beginning of the story. I would be probably just as freaked as he is if I were in this creepy village.

As the series progresses, he really grows up and develops a lot. He learns from his past mistakes, which is really admirable and gives courage to the other characters as well that things can really change for the good.

I voted Rika, for a really like her. But I do like almost all of the characters, they all shine in some way. I really find Satoko and Shions relation adorable, I hope Satoshi can come back so that the three of them can be together, happy family like ^^ I also hope that Rika, in some chapter, can get help from Akasaka, it's clear how important he is to her. I also hope that Mion can confesse to Keiichi sometime.

Maybe you want to toss in Rika is up against the one who took out Rena. So any disgruntled Rena fans could get into this. Besides fans of any character should be together on that part of it.

Anyways, amazed I've managed to hold onto my pick so far. Probably between Rika and Keiichi though probably will give Rika her vote at this point. After all she's been enduring, her character has only gotten better in my mind. Impressed to see how well she has been doing on this character poll.
