it seems to me that the metal on the heand bands and gloves of the ninjas would jeopardize a night mission.. they could cause glare and alert the enemy.. i dont really see a purpose for wearing the metal over the gloves and head band, they could easily conceal the headband and glove metal with another layer of cloth, right?
just seems odd to me, anyone else think this? or is this just more nin-fashion, like the fishnet and wrapping?
i'm pretty sure its just fashion.

thats what i was thinking, its not practical at all, i mean even that bad guy from Kenshin (forgot his name haha) had his head protector covered by his bandages
It is used to prevent the user from guarding form sharp material. For the metal headband, as long as it looks kewl, doesn't really matter. :)

i know they're used to protect from sharp objects, but to bluntly show them of like that during missions seems stupid, the sun could cause reflections that the enemy could see, and then you're caught.. get what im sayin here?
Yeah i remember shishio had a head band, i think though on the gloves it has a purpose, it'll hurt more if u get punched by a guy with metal on his gloves.
kabuto blocked some ninja needles with he head band
Somehow it is used to protect the brain, which is the most important part, from flying attacks like senbon or shuriken.
Most of all is to identify their clan. Because it seems like they are having a war between each clans though. I believe that ninjas are trainned, therefore, they are smart enough not to get caught by the reflection from the sunlight towards the metal or whatever. Another one, if it happens to be war, they need to wear headband so they know who are the rivals, who are not.

for crieing out loud, i know what the head band is used for.. im saying that its not necessary to have it showing, that they should cover it with another piece of leather to hide its illustrious and illuminating shine from he well polished metal
For the love of Christ's sake, I know you know.
Okay I'll put this simple, they have their headbands on like that and they look kewl. Moreover, it's cartoon.

yea, i get wat ur sayin, but who would be stupid enough to try and do a mission when the moon is shining. A ninja should know the proper time to attack, when it is cloudy, with no light and/or visibility.

hmm...perhaps. But maybe they'd hide under stuff where light doesn't reach. Like the song says:
"A large amount of loud enemies is the friend of a Shinobi, hide and remain silent. A shinobi should know the proper time to attack: when the enemy is tired or ill prepared."
soooooo, if they're carful, the headband probably wouldn't be too much of a nusance.
Moreover, it's cartoon.
c..c-c-c-ca-ca-carrrr....... toon?
*drops dead*
bite your tongue, young man! (woman?)
joudan yo! joudan! ^__^
but seriously, please don't call it cartoon, onegai ne? ^__^
anyways the type of mission your talking about, more likly an ANBU team would take care of it, and they dont wear any shiny stuff.
Along the same lines, when I first started watching this show, I thought, "Great, a ninja wearing a DAY GLOW ORANGE outfit. He'll fit right in and be able to hide in the trees."
My friend had the best comment. "Well, at least the Hunters won't think he's a deer..."

iz an anime... they needta add some color... yes it may not be 100% "normal"... but hey... cmon...
same thing as gundam... they dont NEED heads... but it looks better with one... i mean... the pilot isn't even in the head... the camera's could go elsewhere...
sure... the metal plating COULD go under the gloves and headband... like be woven into the clothing... but it looks better....
wait sorri to ask... wut does "onegai shimas" mean?
thx

Anti-flash no jutsu!
That's it.
Oh no someone caught me focusing my chakra.
(And that way Moon the nin-Cat died in a mission while proving his new useless jutsu)

Nuff said.
onegaishimas(u) is just a nicer way to say please
onegaishimasu (the masu at the end is pronunced just mas) is used when asking politely for a favor
They're just for a better protection, I think. It's better to use a metal glove to stop kunais or shurikens with the back of the hand, instead of using non-metal ones to fu** up your hands if you try to deflect that projectile.
But of course, the headband is just for fashion and it may be cheap to make, since it's made of steel, and it must be done in massive amounts, they just use cheap metal and WO! congratulations for winning the headband and graduating. And it doesn't protect very much anyways :heh:

Yeah, like stated a million times now (3 times) the metal on the hands does make good protection (demonstrated by kakashi against zazubu) but the head protector 80% of the time isnt even worn on the head. I would guess that it is a dull metal and wouldnt reflect much light anyways.
And Garaa, if you think this is the worst topic ever then you must be new here. Otherwise you would have seen the "Who would win, Kakashi vs SSJ3" thread.

Duuuuuhhh! guys.... you really can crack me upp!! :D youīve stated almost everything exept the obios in warfare. Well actually i saw 1 post that graced upon the answer. The amnswer issssss........
For identification. They use those flashy headbands and stuff for identification. Because..... in the heat of battle people tend to get a bit hasty and all. So they use those headbands to identify friends and foes... i agree that it seems a bit wierd that itīs made of metal...But once again.. Identification, Identification. If it was on a silent mission and it suddenly heated up.. there where more chanses that they would accidently kill their friends somehow if they couldnīt see those "markings".
None of these things really make that much sense from a practical point of view, but they make perfect sense in a funky-anime-fashion way. Look at the other completely useless articles of clothing/armor that other ninjas wear:
The head sound-nin guy (Dozu?) had his entire head except for one eye wrapped, which in reality would limit his hearing somewhat and eliminate his depth perception. (and limit his vision). And what's with that fur rug he wears on his back?
Baki wears half a veil which, again, limits his depth perception and vision. It doesn't even effectively cover the left half of his face, since if a good wind blows the veil will lift.
Kankuro... well, I suppose his costume doesn't really limit him in any way, but you can't really be sure about the mental capabilities a grown man who prances about in broad daylight in batman pajamas and who plays with puppets.
All of the sound-nins, down to Orochimaru, wear these big Raggedy-Ann-esque bows around their waists as belts. They could probably find lighter, less obviously fruity-looking belts that won't catch on anything.
And of course, there's the abundance of fish-net apparel worn by both female and male shinobi. :)
I agree with most of you because it definitely is a sign showing what ninja village you are in. Without one as said in the earlier episodes like 21-22 it said that one must be indentified because ninjas from other villages even as allies, ninjas from other villages are not allowed to enter allied villages. They could be killed or, other villages need to identify what ninja attacked their village from what region so they can retaliate knowing which village started a war. This is so fingers are not pointed at other villages that start wars of death, slaughter and destruction. In the anime, this was to be inferred in those episodes.
Word to Manga Maniac, its all about the identification man, your definitely right. :)
It's also seems to be a traditional ninja thing. All the ninja from every other anime series of all genre (Watch Planetes for example) wear some sort of forehead protector. I assume the metal is dulled to some extent. Brushed metal doesnt' reflect light the same way polished metal does.

I think it's for the sake of them looking cool. It's an anime/manga it doesn't have to make sense or be practical. I mean, if anything, Naruto is wearing orange and blue, not to mention the fact that those colors are completely loud, but they are also complimentary colors.
I mean, if anime/manga were all about practicality then why always save the best move for last when they've could've just easily used it in the beginning to defeat their opponents faster,so that to save lives, avoid having people getting injured and not having all the stress that they went through? In the end it's all fantasy.
One thing that is forgotten. A status symbol. This proves to most people that you are not some one to be taken lightly. no normal thug that valued his life would do any thing but run when they found some one with that head protector on. what ever symbol happens to be on the front of it.
The threat of powerful violence is often times more effective than violence itself. although many nin would not care and probly put a kunai into the back of a retreating thug just so they could say no one saw them.
In a battle field sistuation (such as episode 68) usualy a forhead protector would not make to much of a differance, espicialy since many nin wear them in various locations. for example, who is going to stop and look at the top of sakura's head to find out she is a leaf nin? I assume they recignize people like guards and armies have for centuries. how thier dressed / how they move and attack.

Nah; what really gets me is Naruto's orange jumpsuit. Red would be fine, (it doesn't reflect the moonlight in any color but grey, interestingly enough) but ORANGE?! and then, of course, you have during the daytime... when ALL of their outfits would screw them over. I mean, with a big orange blob, the metal on the headband is a pretty... minescule risk.

damn good point dragon, i hate it when i'm walkin out in the night and all of a sudden the sun reflects of some piece of metal i'm wearing ;)
I think Naruto orange suit reflects (no pun intended) his personality, he isn't very good at hiding things, if anything he wants to be seen. I love your quote Forsaken-san

Yeah, I can't wait either. I'm looking foreward to seeing them all in the konoha ninja uniforms; the utility vest over the dark blue...
But then again, maybe I'm just one for uniforms... (Which would explain my fascination with the military... lol):D
And aregato, Bun-chan... but which quote are you talking about? :eyebrow:
Unless you mean my sig... and that's one of the privileges of being an aspiring author. (I'm also NightSlave, since I'm feeling quite full of myself at the moment, I'll admit it and take credit for it.) I can post my viewpoints and beliefs... eloquently. (usually :D)
Anywho, I'm glad someone liked it. :p
Yeah I really like the blue uniform, I wonder if they have to wear it or if they can choose to wear it. But it seem all the chuunin and Jounin Ninja have the Kohona uniform on.
Forsaken-san I mean your sig.

Even though Naruto will become, just like the other Konoha ninajs, I don't want him to change his outfit yet. I like the fact that he stands out from the rest of his comrades and peers, because he's so different.
He's almost like Konoha's "flaming" ninja, but yet not quite so.

1) So we can discuss it in the forum :D
2) fashion
3) the dude that does the engraving was the family of the first Hokage
4) if they are a good Nin they live, the sloppy / stupid nins get killed thus making the Leaf Truely strong :D
5) So Pervert Senin can be proud to wear his "slipperly" warning label to inform young madiens of his intentions :naughty:
6) to hide Sakura's head, stupid bitch put it on her hair and waist what is up with that!
7) to cover up the branch family seal
I'm going with #3 and #4

It's hard to say some flashing shining metal objects will jeopardize a mission when you have Naruto running around wearing hunter blaze orange! :heh:
It's more like Naruto is like "hey, look at me.... come and get me" No wonder Oro don't want him! :bash:
