After trying to motivate myself to draw, I had this idea: Take a drawing done a few years back and redo do it to see how much I improved. I won't get discouraged part way through because my drawing is always being compared to a worse drawing, making my current work look better.

For example heres a "before": http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y235/Sumgai/Picture022.jpg

And heres the "after":

(The character I drew is Shiina from Tales of Symphonia)

I encourage evaluations stating what improved and what didn't, and possibly what skills deteriorated.

So... I hope others will post "before and afters" of their own in this thread :).

Come on! It will be fun!:D

Even though it's kind of hard to tell with just a sketch, aside from the face it doesn't look much better to me.

Hey cool idea. I've been wanting to revisit some of my older drawings for a while now but lack the time. I got college assignments to do, gotta finish my naruto doujin, have to draw Kairin more...etc. Wish I had unlimited time.

Aside from that, I must say you've certainly improved. I think the 2nd picture is better than the first in terms of overall improvement.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking forward to any posts and hope to see some art.

It's rare for me to be drawing this often, although that will probably change when the semester starts :(.

note: I didn't notice until after I finished that her legs are huge!

After seeing your post I realize I was missing general dates for the "before" pictures. I'm curious as to how much time passed between each version (I'll edit my posts).

Anyway, some comments about your drawings:
Although I'm probably stating the obvious, the second version is much neater and balanced than the first. As for the third version, it's much more 3D than the previous and I see she sprouted fingers. It also has softer coloring, which I usually prefer. However, for some reason I actually prefer the 2nd version. While the 3rd is better in many technical aspects, I think it's the simplicity, neatness, and balance of the 2nd version that I really like.
