That WAS a good ep. Best I've seen in a while. Great that the storyline has finally moved on Scarinator.

I got annoyed by the fact that Edward only got one arm now.
off topic:
and AF-F sub was really nasty quality on sometimes the whole text dispeared then uyou could see black blocks sometimes.
Was it the Fansub or do i need a new codec? :p
Yeah I'm getting the same problem been spending about an hour trying to fix it. It slows down on my players >_<
I went into the ffdshow control panel and disabled all codecs, then it worked.
Never had any problems with their sub so far.

Hi,
The Anime-Forever release, the video lagged, and i spent atleast half an hour to try and fix.. eventually i gave up, and downloaded the Keep and Anbu release. It worked perfectly!!
As for the episode it probably has been one of the best. My favourite alchemist on that show has to be the buffed up Armstrong!!! Lastly i cant believe how terribly strong scar is? and since he absorbed the red stone, perhaps his powers may have increased? Any speculations on that....

Yeah, I'm guessing they'll do that. But why would he throw the stone at him then? Panic? Full Metal Panic? Hahahahha oh...

Best guess is that in researching the Philosopher's Stone, he came across those markings on his arm. Most likely the markings on his arm represent either the completion or another piece of the Philosopher's Stone, and he threw the stone at him to fuse them together. Remember that the arm is "teaching" him alchemy, so perhaps it has some innate um, "alchemic stuff" in it.
All in all a good ep of a kid's show that's surprisingly interesting.
also noticed that all the 'alchemy' that Scar does,as well as the alchemy amplified by the 'red water' and derivatives of it cast red light, rather than the blue that most everyone else's seems to give off.
maybe he has such a stone implanted in his arm? the red crystal gave the guy in Zerotime(or Xerotime) the ability to do alchemy w/o any knowledge of it. perhaps it does the same for scar?

So... Roy was the one who killed Winry's parents? :twitch:
But I'm still very surpised by how different manga and anime are...*still like the anime more :p*
I was suprised to see in the next episode preview Al got his head back. I wonder if it will be the real thing
so it's pretty safe to say rockwell was his dad and the fire alchemist killed him? it just keeps getting better.

With this episode FMA made my top 10 favorite anime. It was simply a great episode. I wonder why I didn't pick up on the color of the alchemy from scar's arm before. It was clear that he wasn't an alchemist himself and the arm contained his power, but I hadn't even suspected the power came from the philosopher's stone. It seems the symbol is another form of the stone, just like the red water. Maybe when the power of two incomplete philosopher's stones, made in different ways, interact, they cancel each other out until the weaker one is destroyed. That would explain why scar couldn't use his powers for a few seconds.
:topicoff: I know the accepted english word is alchemy, but shouldn't it be alchemistry? :heh: Maybe when chemistry first seperated itself from alchemy and became a real science, they changed it to seperate it in people's minds from guys trying to turn lead or mercury into gold.
Haven't watched it yet but would really like to know... Ed's now only got one arm? do u mean his metal arm has been disabled?
You would think they could just gather up the pieces to Eds arm and his brothers armor and use their alchemy to restore them.

That's not his head, its another guy in a suit. Also, Ed's arm is automail, they can just make a new one. And there is a reason that they cant just gather up the pieces and transmute it... but lets not spoil too much at once.

whoa.... now you really caught my attention here..... if you don't wanna spoil it for everyone then just msg me privately..... cos.. i wanna know!
what do you mean there's a reason that they can't transmute it? you mean that all this while the reason why he can do alchemy without a resenjin is that there is a built in circle? its not his own power? is this in the manga cos if it is i wanna read it...

Warning: major future spoiler below!
According to the manga.... since Ed bound Al's soul to the suit armor (with blood???... not sure on that one), Ed "must" recreate the suit of armor (he takes it upon himself- ch 8?) . To do this, he needs his arm back (again, its automail, a new one can be made) ( this is basically all of vol 3). As is explained in 15 (which the anime and manga kept the same explanation), he creates an energy arc between his to hands to do alchemy without a circle. I cant give a valid explanation for why they cant recreate automail with alchemy.
But considering how badly they buthered the whole marcoh (yes, its marcoh with an h) thing, who knows what bones is going to do for vol 3. The anime was completely off from the manga for ep 15. There may be one, but i do not recall anything between scar's arm and the stone marcoh had in the manga.

the last thing Al said was that he heard his mom's voice?
somehow the cast for their mom and the secretary is the same person...
does that mean the secretary has some connection to Ed and Al?

Yeah, I was wondering about the secretary way back in ep 13...about her significance and all.
But even better question. After seeing all the etching of arrays on various state alchemists gloves, why the heck doesn't Al have some similar etchings on his armor? It'd definitely save the time it takes to break out some sidewalk chalk and write one on the ground.

This episode is full of easter eggs and revelations!
For example:
During the flashback scenes, did anyone else notice that one of the psycho alchemists had the same eye color as the Elric boys?
Also:
After revealing that it was Mustang that was responsible for the death of Winley's parents, it made me wonder how he could compose himself when he went to recruit Ed during episode 3?

yeah but roy did not kill ed and al's parents but like stated above winry's parents lol maybe rewatch it hunterx? :)
And yeah the thing with his arm is not clear yet.
He said he had seen those markings on a scroll he read of them. but the ishbar thought of alchemy as evil.
And the big guy said that he only used the second stage of alchemy decomposing.
Kinda makes me wonder if the stone is ment for alchemy or if its purpose is something else

yea wicked ep, i wonder how the story moves on from this and how Ed and Al survive in the big bad world.
I figured the reason that you cant recreate the auto mail is that it deals with the human nervous system...
So if it was just his hand got chopped off he could replace it with alchemy but not if the whole thing was destroyed
Another thing is that its just waaaaay to complicated to do via alchemy?

I hope Winry becomes a main char too ^-^ maybe she can fix his arm. I hope her dog comes along too...i just want it too LOL. I guess Marco feels responsible for all the deaths because of his creation. So if he wereto go to that town and face Winry and see ppl that knew then he wouldn't feel right. Hmmmm....woah, alot of stuff happened in that episode....I'm looking through it and i'm guessing the arm is the philosiphers stone... or something along those lines....since edward said, "...marco isn't using the power of the stone..." That means the stone was calling to the arm... And the stone and his arm glow the same color... and of course, his arm absorbed the thing....so of course they're related somehow, rite???
And i've been staring at that arm....the tatoo things are kinda interesting.... I can make out some of the small things....it says....
TERRA - in skinny letters
Ndan - in bold betters
Colin ?? - under Ndan
And there are some other stuff i dont really feel like staring at anymore...heh, yeah....weirdness... any ideas what they could mean???
----------------------------
Some other stuff:
I believe that the Ishbal people had known about alchemy before the other people showed them... In the manga(and somewhat in the anime) Edward refers to wax wings story...about flying to the sun and blah blah, melted and such...I think the Ishbal people already went past that stage....the reason i say this is because Marco looked up an OLD document from Ishbal, rite?? It had the same pattern of his arm(Scar) in it... This would explain why the people said alchemy was the work of the devil...(Maybe they quit on science and just moved onto Math =P ) Hmmmm....what else?? Ummm...and i think that gluttony and Lust n such have to do something with the Ishbal people too...maybe the Ishbal people created them or maybe they used to be Ishbal people that went too far??? Hmmm....
Or you know....I might just be totally wrong on all this ^.^;; eheh...heh...heh.......

I think his powers DO work, but he must first create a spark with his gloove that he can manipulate. But after running around in the rain, the glove should be wet->no spark. And he simply forgot it because he wanted to kick scars ass :)

ETYMOLOGY LESSON: (copied from various sources)
The word alchemy is much older than the word "chemistry" but the two words come from the same origin. "alchemy" used to be "alkimia" in Arabic which means "the kimia." It is not certain where the word "kimia" came from though some believe it comes from the Egyptian word for their homeland, where alchemy was first practiced. The name for their homeland also means "black powder" which had important implications for transmuting metals. Others believe it came from Ancient Greek chumeia, which means "chemistry" or "mingling."
It is probably more likely that upon developing chemistry as a separate discipline, they referred back to the ancient Greek as reference. The suffix "-istry" means "skill," and neither word is 'wrong,' as they were both borrowed from the same Greek origin.
A side note, alchemists were not only interested in transmuting base metals to gold, where the point was not only monetary but spiritual as well; the "Philosopher's Stone" was an important spiritual goal, a sort of manifest of the perfection of man. Or something like that. Another important goal studied during the 17th century was that of finding the Philosophick Mercury, the essence of man that made him 'human.'
It's probably a safe bet that this series will not likely see major distribution in the States, because alchemy really is a sort of an occult practice. "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" became "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" for that very reason.
Anyways,

My guess is that the people of Ishabel using alchemy in the past is right. I think that it become so destructive that they created ways of preventing alchemy from being used and banned it's use. (That's why the markings existed in ancient text for Scar to find and why Armstrong was saying he was able to stop alchemy in it's second stage or whatever).
But the thing about this episode that most puzzled me is that last line by Al about hearing his Mom's voice after that secretary spoke. I thought maybe she was their aunt, but then you could have other even more devious things going on. Like maybe it's lust and she's using their Mom's voice as part of a plan to get closer to them or something.

Well that part I'll disagree with. This show is going to be licensed no question, and will probably become very popular. Who knows, it might even get licensed before Naruto. I wouldn't be too surprised to see it on Adult Swim.
And the reason the Harry Potter book got its name changed is not because of the occult. Really, sorcerers are considered much much more occult than alchemy. The reason is that the word "Philosopher" sounds like something that old men with beards and togas are involved in, and Scholastic didn't think that kids would want to buy a book with the word in the title. Personally I think it was a very stupid thing to do, since now people like AKeep and Anbu think (well, thought, for episode one) that "Sorcerer's Stone" is an acceptable synonym for the Philosopher's Stone.

Valkyrie Profile, released in the USA by Enix, has way too much occult stuff :D Demon summoning, homunculus (man-made bodies) of female form and let's not forget Lezard Valeth's tower, filled with runes made of blood, from the philosopher's stone he acquired.
Lezard Valeth is like, a mature and intelligent version of the little twit known as Harry Potter.
I love the part when Ed and Al are arguing over why he didn't run away from Scar and Al's arm falls off while he's gripping on to Ed's shirt. The way he flailed his arm and leg was so cute. Who knew that a great big hunk of armor could be cute?

When I'd watched ep 13. a couple weeks back, I was sorely disappointed. I'm glad things are back up to speed. Mustang's ecchi side was funny, but the episode felt really out of place to me. Most of the episodes of FMA are either directly related to the plot development, or develop our understanding of the characters. I think Bones does this wonderfully.
I really like Ed and Al's affection for one another. Most anime show affection either in an almost farcically extreme way, or they show characters that aren't comfortable with expressing concern. I find the characters very refreshing.
I'm not sure about the mom's voice thing. I have no doubt that we'll see more references, though. They pay a great deal of attention to the use of imagery or text to foreshadow. It could be an aunt... who knows?
This show is too cool.
What are your other favorites this season?

I hope it stays in Japan, so I don't have to cringe when I see/hear it in American voices. Let alone how they'll chop it up, and completely edit the storyline, probably. (*shudders*)

FMA is/was in negotiations with a US licensor. There was an article in bloomberg japan. And there is no reason to edit FMA except for blood .... And you can always get uncut dvd's unless 4kids gets it. The series is so big name that there are only 2 real suspects for licensing it....

Metal leg?/?? no.... I think you should go back and take a good look.....
I'll assume that you're talking about the part where he only had his one hand and the automail hand had been taken from him.......
Anyway, what happened was that his remaining hand was chained and he couldn't transmute unless he had both his hands.. So he used his remaining hand (left hand) to take out a screw from him back pocket ......
(remember he found the screw on the floor where winry was kidnapped)
then with the screw he drew a cirecle on the chain that bound his hand and touched the circle to transmute the chain....
