But my enjoyment level of the anime had dropped drastically in the last 2-3 episodes.

I mean, did they plan to derail the story from the start? If so they really shouldn't have followed the manga so closely, it isn't just a different take on the same story. If this episode turns out like I expect it will, it is DBZ all over again.

I believe it is already planned from beginning, since there is small hints that manga will not be followed 100 percent. Look back at few eps after Ophelia story and you will get what I mean.

That really isn't the beginning of the story, in fact that is entering the later half of this series, and most of the things they have cut out before recently have been minor, but the things they have altered are VERY major, and immensely disappointing.

I accepted the fact last episode that the ending will undoubtably be not what I wanted it to be, but removing one of the best scenes (several of the best scenes actually) from the anime is a crime.

Seems like they did change/add a few things, so I can understand the disappointment....but I can't even see (much less hear/read) the episode yet, so maybe it's not quite as horrible as it sounds...for a non-manga viewer who's still somewhat spoiled, I guess. Then again, without direct knowledge of the episode, lots of things are up in the air.

They still have the chance to create a significantly different (and thus maybe not as good as the manga's is supposed to be) but valid ending though.

Well, let's put this way... after 20 breath-taking episodes, is pretty normal they would not have more big surprises or cliffhangers to amaze us. Unfortunately they already spent all the great ideas they had. But maybe they still got a little surprise to us in their hands.

Anyway, man, Helen is surely fast! She's already hitting on Raki. :p Even worse, she left Clare, Deneve and Miria do all the fight with mr. kitty alone?! Bad girl!! :D

I don't know if i want to see Galatea meeting Mr.Claymore boy-toy Raki for the first time, now... ;)

Just because of that tiny alteration and without considering the episode's individual story, you'd have to give it a 1? :eyebrow: I'm sure there is no perfect adaptation out there and plus, you'd get to see something new instead of the same old story from the manga so why complain so much? In terms of Claymore, I think Madhouse did a very good job by staying (almost) true to the manga up till now for the manga fans and I was expecting the changes to come sooner or later. Like others mentioned, if they don't change the ending, either we get a cliffhanger that probably won't get resolved until a second season or an open-ended ending or they would stuff us with season-long fillers until they get new material.

Didn't want to sound harsh but I just wanted to get my thoughts in the open. Anyway, I can't wait to see some more screencaps. :eyespin:

Judging from wha I have heard about this episode, I am prepared for dissappointment, also seeing as how they're making this an orginal ending then I think that they should insert something so totally random that it takes manga readers minds off of the changing story. A giant panda defeating/eating rigardo and killing or maiming raki would probably do it.:p

Okay guys..be honest and say whether you have really(and I mean really..again..I repeat, REALLY) watched this episode. Judging the episode by the screenshots posted here doesn't make your opinion valid. They might have altered the ultimate battle scene between Rigaldo and Clare, but that doesn't mean "that's it", right? Madhouse might preserve Clare's wrath for later, which we will know in next episode.It is quite clear we are going to have a different ending for the anime from the manga.

Code Geass is a great series and leaves of on a Cliffhanger ending, so did Berserk.

Most Animes that deviate from the manga end up being poorer quality then the manga itself. Love Hina/Bleach/Naruto/Negima/Rave Master/Flame of Recca/ Chrono Crusade are just a few examples of this (picked all of those off my bookshelf fyi :p)

Looks like Claymore is being added to that list now as well. :(

Well if I had to choose between neverending fillers or cliffhanger for Claymore, then I'd definitely choose the cliffhanger option. But otherwise, I'd rather have a normal conclusion over a cliffhanger so my questions would (hopefully) be answered and I won't have to keep guessing after the series is over even if it means things might get altered. :heh:

I am also slightly disappointed by that but so far, we only have one screencap of Clare defeating Rigardo. Even though she has no back-sprouting thingies, we don't know if her legs changed or not. I hope they made her legs change at least and then maybe saving the rest for the finale?

I would add that this Anime has been slowly turning into a pure Raki fest.

Raki unfortunately, is acting as a Naruto's version of endless fillers[1]. Last episode, Raki took an estimated 75%+[2] of the screen time. There is no reason (other than to extend the number of episodes), that would prevent "Raki time" to be somewhat reasonable.

Again, Madhouse is using Raki, to lower the production cost per episode. They are doing that by jamming a continuous stream of Raki, down our collective throats (no pun intended). That is where my disagreement comes into play. Whatever the "Raki story", they could have told us in a reasonable time frame. Instead, we get a never ending, continuous stream of Raki whining, designed exclusively to burn up the clock.

There is a reason fillers suck so bad. If the authors of fillers are not good. If they were, they would be writing their own stories. But as it stands, the job of "filler authors" is to come up with crap. Said crap has to be good enough to keep advertisers from bailing. But it seems, said crap (fillers) can never produce a story as good as the original (manga).

[1] The author has never actually watched Naruto or DBZ. But has been advised that Naruto had frustrating quantity of "endless fillers".

[2] I believe, when all the intro, beginning, ending and preview were taken into account, Raki took 83% of the "story time" in the last episode.

It was CLEAR that the anime will deviate from the manga to give it a closing. People where not satisfied with the Berserk ending and so Madhouse goes for a conclusion instead of a cliffhanger. Makes sense because season 2 would have to wait for 3+ years.
You all knew this, you all expected this, it already happend last episode and even before that. But hey... it's cool I guess to make a scene here and absolutly RUIN it for those that have not seen the manga. They want to enjoy an episode and find only hate here on how horrible this episode was (that most posters have not even seen yet).

They need to pace the anime so there could be a confrontation between Priscilla and Claire. For a closing Raki and Claire need to reunite as they promised each other.


But hey, if you are so offended by the animes content, why don't you stop watching it. If you are just here to complain and throw a fit, why don't you make a "bash claymore" thread and leave those that comment based on what they saw, not what deviates from the manga alone.

Varis, yes agree with you 100%. Just because you see one screenshot all hell breaks lose. And that screenshot was the end you don't know what happen during the battle and what if it turned into something great. If you can't wait for subs and don't understand japanese then wait for bloggers and see what they think then form your opion when you actually see it with your own eyes. You say you lost all respect for Madhouse after only 2-3 ep. Remember this you had to watch more than just 2-3 ep for you to have Madhouse respect. Yes the Raki scenes were a little anoying I won't disagree but to say everything got ruined because of it is just pushing it. And real battle I want to see were Clare almost goes awakend is against Pris not some lion guy that just appeared during these last few ep. Pris has been a part of this since day 1. And maybe we will get to see that one instead of waiting for the manga to decide to show after God knows how many chapters. So yeah go ahead and read the manga (by the way I also read the manga and not as upset as everybody here) your choice but i want to see that battle before i get bored with it.

I agree with Varis. And people here are talking too much smack before watching the episode. I don't have a problem if you complain after watching it, but this is just unfair criticism. For your information, the anime will not "ruin" the manga since the anime doesn't change the manga whatsoever. If you don't like the anime, you can just stick to your manga. All this complaining is ruining my appetite for the episode as I don't read the manga. And to those who are complaining about too much Raki, Raki didn't even get that much screen time in ep 21. He got about 5 minutes max. In ep 22, he got a quite a bit, but that's because Madhouse wanted to leave Clare going berserk at the end of the episode and make it a set-up episode.

When I said that Clare does not Awaken, that's exactly what I meant. She kills Ligardo without Awakening, without doing anything special in Claymore terms.

The story has been very particular as to why this is not enough to beat Ligardo. As to why the anime decided to still go for it is beyond me. It's not like it changes anything. Ligardo is still dead.

Well I'll admit that only having the legs awaken does irritate the heck out of me. The sequence there was one of my favorates in the manga. And now the phrase I wanted to use to describe Claire in this episode just isn't as good now.

Actually, I think it's a good episode. Clare being able to beat Ligardes was still logical and considering there's now more to come, it's also logical that certain parts were delayed.

I can understand the dislike of the added Raki, simply because of the immense hatred for him. 'Cept I actually like Raki and like that he's actually a believable human being (yes, cave scene included), so I didn't mind him being there.

Overall I actually like where Madhouse seems to be going, as it will probably and hopefully be a satisfactionary ending for Clare's story (which is what Claymore is). Just the, likely, lack of Riful and 3 unseen, yet mentioned, characters is a shame.

P.S. Are the changes really that big a deal that they overshadow the "yay Miria is alive!" part? D:

It was CLEAR that the anime will deviate from the manga to give it a closing. People where not satisfied with the Berserk ending and so Madhouse goes for a conclusion instead of a cliffhanger. Makes sense because season 2 would have to wait for 3+ years.

2. For those yelling OMG, THEY @#$#@%#@ CHANGED IT and your low ratings... I'm an ANIME watcher, and so is this thread for. The manga threads (yes, thread(S) are elsewhere in the forum). So what did this episode do to deserve a 1? Was it the animation? The voice acting? The music? Or are you gonna say that it was the story? Because if you are, then say it WITHOUT bringing the manga in here. In this case, I'm gonna act like a Raki hater (a BIT). There were definitely valid complaints about the scenes that alternate between Raki and the fights. It lowered the pacing of the story, no doubt, but does NOT warrant a 1.

I'm enjoying every minute of Claymore's anime adaption, and I love reading some of people's thoughts on the episode threads. But after seeing such childish tantrums and destructive acts (episode spoilers GO INTO THE SPOILER TAGS DAMMIT!!), my enjoyment for the series have went down significantly. Not because of the series, but because of the inconsiderate posters on this forum. And it makes me question the existence of the Venting thread. Hmm... here's prolly what's gonna happen:

The beginning: Isley and Priscilla appears. Players match of. Jean + Galatea vs Isley. Clare vs Priscilla

The Rise: Jean and Galatea seems to be holding Isley off quite well. Clare is able to fight on par with Priscilla.

The Fall: Isley and Priscilla's true strength emerges. The group loses hope

The Return: The appearance of a hidden character to face off with Isley. Clare awakens completely. Victory is at hand. Clare offs Priscilla. Raki is somehow involved.

The Destruction: 2 characters appears in the distance. Alice and Beth. No one has seen them before. Everyone's stunned. We then see the complete and utter destruction of every being in place, friend and foe.

The Epilogue: 7 years later. In the snowy mountains. There are hints of survival from some claymores and probably a human teenager...holding hands with a claymore

The fight scenes between Clare and Rigardo is very long, with the lightning speed they are fighting, maybe making hundreds of moves every second, somehow they manage to keep doing it for more than 20 mins!!!!!;)

I think both Clare & Pricilla will fully awaken. Madhouse try to create a epic battle between Clare and Pricilla to end the series, and I guess Raki will come to save the day again. You got to love Raki.:):cool:

You are full of shit. Are you counting Isley's part as "raki"? There is at most 5 minutes of Raki.

Now let me add some real content here. Compare to the same fight in manga, Helen is now smart enough to destroy the lose arm and didn't put Milia at risk. The fight last a lot longer, with 10x more clash and Lion doing a power-boost show. Lion actually fight like someone of his status and enjoy a fight with a strong enemy. The best part is at the end when Clare was pushed to the extreme, Prisilla can sense the only yuki aura she had feared.

Sorry, but I don't agree with you. First, not everyone was displeased with Berserk's ending. The only thing they really left out was the skull-knight and the Berserk anime is a very well known classic. The cliff-hanger ending in Berserk also made many people read the manga to find out what happens next. Deviating from the real story, the following are reasons why it's a bad choice:

1. It destroys the amazing visioning of the Mangaka.

2. It further ruins the perfect 20 episode streak this series had, and this series will probably end up on the top 10 or 20 anime lists, but not as high because it deviated and made many manga fans mad. If the series deviated much earlier, the whining and madness probably would have simmered down and be less intense compared to the anger coming from Madhouse unleashing massive BS onto us on the last moments of this amazing, yet ruined anime. (OMG CLARE DIDN'T AWKAEN! :twitch: wtf) ^^^ That fact alone would make people give this anime an overall rating of 9 instead of 10.

3. Anime with conclusions aren't necessarily better compared to the "leave it to your imagination" endings.

4. Madhouse made the wrong choice on its directing. Leave it as a cliffhanger for CRYING out loud. It's better than adding this filler/interruptions after so many PERFECT episodes. Many people were amazed by how well this anime adapted the manga till NOW. It's very disappointing. Madhouse could have easily covered everything to at least or near ch. 70.

Madhouse, shame on you unless you kill off Raki. I don't hate Raki, but it makes up for this **** I've been seeing. I have a feeling that if they make a sad ending, it should be with Raki dying, not Clare dying, but its more than likely that Clare will die in a sad conclusion.

*imagines Raki switching places with someone in a future scene... * 10/10. Don't want to spoil b/c it's a "future event" XD...

I haven't seen the episode yet since my japanese is still a tad to bad for me to be able to enjoy the episode to its fullest. I simply can't stay away from the forums though, and I'm still bummed about the fact that they decided not to follow the manga... even though I'm not reading it.

Sure, a lot of people go like "what the hell, I still have the manga to rely on", but it's not like that in my case. I've never been able to enjoy a manga... at all. It's just like the "world of non-anime/manga entertainment" for me. I enjoy some movies and series, and I really enjoy novels, but I simply can't appreciate comics, no matter what kind of story they tell or how well written the storyline is. It's sad really, cause I've really enjoyed the storyline of Claymore up until now, and I really wish that I would be able to enjoy the manga since I always want "the true story". It's kind of ironic... I hate anime original endings (in general), but I can't find it in me to appreciate the original source if it's a manga, and most often it is. An exception would be FMP where the original source consists of light novels, but that's not a part of the discussion at hand.

Anyhow... I really shouldn't judge Claymore until I've seen what kind of ending Madhouse is going for, but I can't help feeling a bit bummed about this whole situation. It has happened so many times before, and I automatically expect it to happen again. But who knows... I might be back when I'm done watching Eclipse's contribution to the scene... feeling a whole lot different. ^^

So what? The anime made it that 2 limbs were enough to finish of Ligardes. Clearly Priscilla and Isley are coming, if they had her awaken all 4 parts now, they'd never make it believable that Clare would be able to take on Priscilla.
At least this way it's somewhat believable. This is of course assuming that Clare vs Priscilla will happen and that Clare will awaken more, which seems very likely. Which will mean that everyone will get their precious awakened limbs and possibly the reversal scene afterwards.

I just watched the raw and I didnt mind the storyline or where it was going, although I am kind of sad since I hoped for a second season to this:sad:. I rated this a 9 out of 10 due to the inconsistency of the fights, not so much as in the previous episodes but enough to kind of disturb the flow of battle. as for raki, I take a neutral standpoint due to the fact that although he basically does not contribute to the actual combat he is needed for the average person to relate to this anime......this is all just my opinion though:)

I just watched the raw and have a few thoughts:

Lots of Raki. Whatever; he's obviously integral to the ending Madhouse has planned. I don't speak Japanese so I'll have to wait for a subber to completely understand these parts, but I get the gist of it. =p

I was very, very disappointed with the Clare change that everyone is talking about. It was basically the sole reason I was looking forward to this episode.

However, note that next episode is titled "Critical Point (Part 2)". I'm willing to bet money that the particular scene I was looking forward to is in the next episode... albeit under different circumstances. Madhouse would have to be crazy to completely exclude that moment for Clare.

Whether or not the event will have anywhere near the same impact remains to be seen. =/

Yeah Rehwyn, your prediction about the next episode makes a lot of sense actually, due to the fact that Madhouse is in fact creating their own ending. I don't think they would leave such an important protagonist-oriented thing out... even though they might actually implement it in a different way. Like I said, I haven't watched the RAW yet since I want to be able to appreciate this episode to its fullest. I'm looking forward to seeing the anime original ending that Madhouse has in store for us, even though I'm at the same time pissed at the general situation of them not allowing us anime-only-fans to experience the story the way the mangaka had in mind.

Yeah the new Guyver anime stays very faithul to the original manga. They did add some stuff that was in novels, like the octipus zoanoid. Also the original creator of Guyver worked very closly with the show's crew. Keeping Guyver 2 around longer was his idea, and he wrote the episode summerys in the extra booklets that came with the dvd. If your going to change something in the adaption, if you get the original Mangaka to come up with the changes then people really can't complain about them disregarding the original creators wishes.

Anyways, back on topic, I gave the episode a 6, even though I may never see it, witch is unfair I guess. But I also know that the Claire/Rigard fight is one of my favorate parts of the manga, and there is no way to have equaled how it was envisioned in my head. Meh, oh well. Anyways if the manga ends with Claire beating Priscilla now, it just doesn't seem like it will ring true, even with acts of Raki. He just doesn't seem to have the bond he had with her in the manga, and wouldn't be able to convince her to let herself be killed.

Seen it and this is one most action packed ep of the series. The fight is very well done and you will get the sensation of 2 jet fighters duking it out in supersonic speed in dogfight instead of normal human speed. Rigald began to regard Claire seriously, comparing this fight to his old fight against his superior, Isley/Easley in intensity. Here we can see why the lesser Claymore operator unable to help Claire in this fight, since it is too fast even for Phantom Miria/Millia.

Raki also realised that he is hopeless in the light of truth about eventual fate of Claymores, feeling despair. Priscillia got the old feeling again which puzzles Isley/Easley.

My only complaint about this episode is Rigald talks too much in fight.

There really no errors in it compared to LQ b/c I left some minorly important scenes in some spots to better the flow of scenes and music. I guess I'll add the AB's marching into town on the final version. I guess the final version will be the whole Pieta arc lmao. It's hard to say if it's possible to edit out scenes though if they start to really deviate with characters appearing in Pieta.

What's more some people are writing that you can't compare manga to anime. But you can, it's free will. What, you wouldn't allow Yagi Norihiro complain about screwing everything up too ? It's normal, for example in recent Ghibli film Gedo Senki (Tales from Earthsea), the first anime film adaptation of the Earthsea series written by Ursula Kroeber Le Guin, it was inevitable that fans of her books would compare these two products. Even the author herself responded quite critically, here (http://www.ursulakleguin.com/GedoSenkiResponse.html) you will find her comment.

Taking no account of manga-anime comparison, episode 23 was average. After episode 20 I was sure that they can't screw up Rigardo fight. I was wrong. Constant switching between the fight and Raki, dragging the fight for 3 episodes, some Bleach/Naruto//DB alike Ki release... That was decent but repetitive. I liked the fight but I've seen much better fights in other anime. The previous episode was very good, but they spoiled all the fun by having Clare play with Rigardo for the whole episode and then at one moment she just killed him, lol. Was he tired ? I don't think so, in fact it was Clare who breathed heavily.

What's worse I've read the manga and I can't belive that static pictures could overwhelm dynamic ones, it was so much better in the manga, I would even write SUPERBly better. Not to mention the whole Raki thing, him getting in the way, whinning, acting like a 13-year old girl. He wasn't like that in the manga or in previous episodes (1-20). I like him in the manga, but here after episode 21 episode he annoys me.

Other than some small changes, i've found nothing bad about this ep. Generally it hasn't followed the manga but hardly any anime's these days follow the manga %100. I am overall happy with the battle as well as Raki playing a minor role again. Better playing a minor role than a major role later on. Still i am craving to see how this ends and when or if a season 2 comes out.

I think this really is one of the best episodes in the anime :) I realized that the anime and the manga are two absolutely different stories after all. And this episode is not the point when they become different, they were two different stories from the early beginning. It's just happened that from this episode both of them become very interesting for manga readers. The Anime really takes away the momentum of the whole lion fight. There is no sitting on the edge of your seat in excitement waiting to see what would happen next, with one surprise more surprising than the last. This fight is incomparable to both the teresa fight and the lion fight in the manga.

Truthfully, I felt more frustration over the slow progress and the RAKI interruptions than anything else. It also felt like a NARUTO episode.

Well, I believe that the manga readers don't really whine about how the anime differs, but about how the anime downgrades the quality of the characters and of the story/storytelling. The last few episodes made Rigald slow and not that strong, which makes Miria and co weak.
Clare being able to beat Isley/Priscilla this early in the story is nefast for her character development if she only needs the same amount of power she needed to beat Rigald in the manga. It makes those two so-called over-powerful baddies not that powerful.


Although, I agree that some spoilers have unfortunately been let lose, I think it's interesting to know the differences between the anime and the manga. It's thanks to the manga readers that I started reading the manga while watching the anime for this series and other series. I'm delighted to have picked up the manga, so I can't thank the manga readers enough.
In my opinion, it's quite sad to be happy with a mediocre anime adptation when the source material is outstanding. Sure if nobody tells you how bad it is, you'll never know. Denial much?


There's nothing wrong with anime/manga differences. The matter lies when the differences are heading in a negative way. For instance, here there are huge pacing problems in the last episodes. Rigald is pictured as a fast fighter (albeit slower than in the manga :p) but his fight last for way TOO long.

It started 2 eps ago during witch Raki/Isley/Priscilla started to move toward Pieta, Raki found out about Priscilla, they stopped to rest for a while, started moving again, and arrived in Pieta... and Rigald was still fighting?

WTH? the whole lion fight shouldn't last more than Claymore-world-15 minutes (which can last more than that in episode length of course) but the inclusion of the Raki team interlude depicting events spanned over hours is breaking the story here.

No problem with cutting fights but, please cut it with equally paced scenes or don't cut it. Naruto anime has the same problems these months.

Finally got around to watch the ep myself. Nice fight! I think it was well done. Claires woman Raki even made it in time to witness the fight.

Priscilla freaked out when she and Isley got close. I wonder if she senses Teresas youki. I recall that Irene (noumba tu!) initially investigated claire because she thought it was teresa's youki.

He he this will probably end up in a huge violent ending... Raki would not want them to fight and will probably complicate things but thankfully he has... well NO power lol.

My point was that this episode is clearly in the 5+ range. In a way, nothing will ever get 1/10 or 10/10 since something can always be better or worse. In this case, I think giving it 10/10 is way less far-fetched than giving it a 1/10.

I believe that this IS supposed to be a close-to-pure anime thread. The title says Episode 23 Discussion, not Episode 23 and the Manga Equivalent of Episode 23 Discussion. Also, even if nobody rated it 10/10, I doubt that there would be no more people comparing the anime to the manga. The purpose of your post might have been to show that 10/10 is not appropriate, however, judging from what I've been reading, there are a lot of people who are complaining just because the anime de-rails from the manga. My previous post also addresses to those people. Refer to my first paragraph about the max/min thing.

I think the hysterical reaction already stopped. Some people overreacted to a handful of screenshots and made a scene. Others jumped on the bandwagon until a few of us pointed out how silly that was before the raw was even out.

Now that they have seen it, the worst we get is a 5. I don't appreciate it when this thread is turned into a anime-manga comparison discussion but I'll deal with it if they keep it reasonable.

I'm about to start giving out negative rep points for all the whiners in here who can't get it in their heads that anime DOESN'T have to be a 100% copy of the manga it's based on. You tout Berserk as this awesome anime with a great ending. IT SUCKED. I hated the ending of the anime. I was left going WTF. Give me some closure anyday, to an open ending. If madhouse is planning on a closed ending, since there probably won't be a second season, then I'm ALL FOR IT. Good for them for having the cajones to end the series their way.

This is what I have keep saying, Madhouse going for closure which I preferred instead of hanging end like Kare Kano or Berserk. And they doing a good job with it so far, only problem is Raki's unrealistic character development due to unavoidable length limitations as I outlined earlier as my chief complaint for this anime. In this case, Madhouse is bit too faithful to the manga, they should have tweaked Raki's characterization little bit so he did not look so disjointed in this particular arc. But hey, it is just my personal beef.

I love the manga too but it did not blind me to the fact that anime is anime, manga is manga. I just wished some people stop comparing the anime to the manga so excessively, look at the anime on its own.

Ohhh man this is thread is on FIRE lol. Well, my opinion is that Claymore was adapted from a source material, the manga. It's the same as the Spider-man movie, Sin City, 300, The fantastic Four, etc. I'm sure any fan of the Marvel or Frank Miller comics would DIE to see some scenes get in the movie, then be completely turned off and dissapointed by the live-aciton version they saw. After I finished 160 something Inuyasha episodes, I knew by then that filler is BULL **** and has nothing to do with the story. I learned my lesson from Inuyasha and stopped watching Naruto right at 136 or whenever that fight ended. And, I started reading manga so I get the stuff that anime doesn't cover. In Claymore's case, I watched up to episode 6 or whatever the current episode was at the time. I couldn't handle waiting a week for the next ep, so I got a hold of the manga and read it all. I only read from where the story was in the anime, so I had my doubts about the anime being so faithful like it was just your average anime that probably added crap in here and there. Then, one day I decided to go read chapters I had seen in the anime and LOW AND BEHOLD *cue heavenly chorus sound*... the anime, I said to myself, is VERY CLOSE, no CRAP sighted. After that moment, I couldn't help but watch the anime and have myself stunned by watching a manga come to life the way it was supposed to (like Hellsing OVA). I wouldn't have bothered watching the Claymore anime if it deviated a lot in the beginning and middle, but it didn't. The fact that Madhouse adapted the manga so well means that a lot of manga readers got so faithful with the anime, and NOW WE ARE AWAKENED ONES!!! Whole thing has gotten pretty insane at this point that's for certain. I can understand the frustrations of the manga people who clearly saw a massive divergence that would have really had them pretty pissed off.

Now just judging the episode based on what we've seen so far it wasn't bad at all. Raki bits were pretty toned down to ignorable and the fight was intense. Awakening her legs was a pretty incredible thing to pull off doing pretty much anything at this stage to defeat Rigardo. A guy who was just owning everything was pushed right back on his heels.

Good on Helen as well destroying that arm that could've given Rigardo a serious boost back to his normal fighting potential. Seems again a ton of power negates the ability to reform limbs that we saw before. It was a huge battle with Clare figuring out how to move right since at the start she was just dashing despreately in a straight line and dodging was pretty simple.

Still surprised she took down Rigardo when her legs were pretty much all that changed from the start to the end of the episode. Unless her cracking face had a huge impact on damage done :). Anyways with Easley and Priscilla close and recognizing the Youki things aren't nearly done yet. Besides on a lighter note if Clare awakens all her limbs...does the right arm follow the rest of her body or will it be Irene's awakened form? ;)

Really I do understand why everyone is pissed off here. If Clare was supposed to awaken more than she did it would get me riled up too. But let's just relax a bit since they wouldn't hold that back if it wasn't going to be brought up with the next fights. Agree if she pulled out all the stops to kill Rigardo where would hte power come in order to beat what's coming?

Definitely a pain that they would be so faithful and then turn things anime original. They had to know this at the beginning so why build up expectations and stay true for so long? Anyways will read the manga once Claymore is finished so just have to wait myself.Know everyone is pretty upset on one side or the other. Now let me add some real content here. Compare to the same fight in manga, Helen is now smart enough to destroy the lose arm and didn't put Milia at risk. The fight last a lot longer, with 10x more clash and Lion doing a power-boost show. Lion actually fight like someone of his status and enjoy a fight with a strong enemy. The best part is at the end when Clare was pushed to the extreme, Prisilla can sense the only yuki aura she had feared.
Obviously you haven't read the manga, because Helen prevents Rigard having it.

I just checked AnDB search and found the original Guyver series was a 6ep OVA so its not going to be enough episodes to detail the story. Claymore is 26eps. If the manga is going to be longer, they could up the episode count or do 2 seasons to tell the story properly.

Of course, considering the time slot its in, maybe its not as popular as we think it is. Maybe its a cult following, or just popular out of Japan.

It's stated nowhere in the rules that it's not allowed to talk about the manga. Claymore being an anime adapted from a manga, the anime/manga comparison is a full part of the dissusion about an anime episode (as long as the future events are not mentionned).

On another note I'd just like to have an exemple of a spoiler which is not about future events. I always thought that the definition of a spoiler was the divulgation of a future event, so, to me "spoilers in spoiler tags" and "no spoiler about future events even in spoiler tags" are mutually exclusive rules. I'm sure Seska can help me on this one :)

I don't. I actually didn't say anything specific enough to be false.

But, from what I understand, while some people's fear were exaggerated, the screencaps make it undeniable that some changes have occurred. It is our right to find those changes unpleasant.

But the thing is, with anime adaptation of manga, we already have an example of writing of how the story could have gone. Made by a talented author, or his work would be adapted to TV. We don't have to come up with our own to make a comparison between what was, and what could have been.

And generally, we find the story told by the original author to be superior to the one presented on TV. It doesn't have to be this way. I had absolutely no problems with Mahoraba's conversion to anime, for example. And I found Maburaho's anime vastly more entertaining than its manga counterpart. All in all, I was satisfied with Yakitate Japan's ending, even though the last tournament was very much shortened.

But in Claymore? The changes make me like the characters less. And that means I'll like the anime less.

One change in particular also attacked my suspension of disbelief, but I suppose it's not that important.

They can't, because the manga's still ongoing. The end is still several years away. And they can't exactly plan a season five years in advance.

Can please everyone all the time and thats what the problem is. I myself would rather see a manga-anime adaptation thread as opposed to manga refrences being in the anime thread. But the rules dont state that you cant so none of the manga complainers are breaking any rules. Some said that if you have a brain then the manga post shouldnt ruin things for you. Thats not true seeing something can alter you mind or put your mind in a pre set mode before even seeing the episode. I would suggest a compromise if you want to relate the anime to the manga put it ina spoiler tag like some have started doing that way anime watchers dont have to read it and the manga readers still get to express there frustration/opinion either way we to kill the flamming just a suggestion.

Anime watcher sees and enjoys episode->manga reader says it pales in comparison->Anime watcher reads the manga and enjoys it.

It's all beneficial to anime watchers. Double satisfaction for them instead of satisfaction/disappointment for manga readers in case of a bad adaptation.

No of course I read it, multiple times. In the manga there is only a single frame with Helen's sword sticking in it, like it is ready for BBQ. Lion-san probably could get it back since he is way faster than Helen. Anime version is a bit more complete showing Helen making sure it is gone for good before Lion-san can make another attempt.

I just loved the way Clare kept running into the buildings. :)

This episode again showed us, just how frighteningly fast Clare learns to control her new found powers. She gained the speed. But as time progressed, she started to bring it under control. The part where she saved Helen was probably the turning point for her. Even Rigardo could not believe that Clare could bring this incredible speed under control.

Clare is using up her stamina like there is no tomorrow. However, she does not have a choice in the matter. Either she defeats Rigardo, or everybody dies. That is not much of a choice.

Once you exhaust your stamina. You body literally begins to use itself as fuel. I am aware that this is Anime and the laws are somewhat different. But the problem for Clare is the she is completely exhausted from this fight. There may not be much stamina left in her body to do anything but collapse.

Riguard/Ligardes could:
a)rip his own arm off from a sword
b) take down Helen, take claymore away, take his arm
If he chose a) option then the arm would be useless

It was a decent episode.

The quality of the animation was I think better then the last one with much more detailed fight sequences. Also the editing between switching to the different scenes was much better then the last episode.

However I don't really like the DBZ like way they presented Clare's powerup in the anime. This was presented in the manga in a much more believeable way (ok I know a different medium).

In the anime I also got vibes that the end of Clare's powerup curve isn't reached yet and there is still more to come for the up coming episodes (maybe they try to make it believable for Clare to be able to kill Priscillia?).

Also in the Anime when Isley en Priscillia came close to Pieta did anyone notice the apparent look of worry on Priscillia's face? Could it possible be that she recognized the yoki signature from the deceased Theresa her arch-nemesis before she awakened?

To be honest it wasn't a bad episode all in all. But it is hard to give objective ratings when you have read the manga. I guess as of now both manga readers and anime-only viewers will wait in suspense and wonder how Claymore will end in 3 episodes. Since its now almost for 60% diverging from the original story line.

That would be true for the manga since they have page limit. The anime is obviously streching it long, so they added that 5 second scene. I am not going to judge all the major changes as good or bad until it is all done, but damn that long pre-opening clip-show is really pushing it.

True may not be a conscious memory of what happened just the feeling. After all Teresa could've killed Priscilla a few times in the fight and that feeling would stick with Priscilla. Perhaps not having specific memory of the instance would only make it a greater fear since you can't identify it. One thing I'm curious about is how Easley recognized that yoki. I mean how likely would it be Teresa ran into him?

Should be something to see how the series is going to end. With things diverging so much it's almost tempting to start reading the manga now. Though will probably just wait until the series is over with and then have something to add to the concerns the manga people have had so far.

Yep, that's one of the main reasons I rated this episode only 5, it's too similar to DBZ/Bleach. One of the main advantages of Claymore were great fights which weren't prolonged but this... True it's not bad but we've seen sth similar so many times in other anime, previous fights in Claymore weren't like that.

Previous fights were following the manga storyline more strictly. Now they are deviating from it. That is why it is becoming more like DBZ/Bleach with lots of powerups. I am not saying that is bad however I do like the more brutal short 'realistic' fights more.

Honestly, I am quite mad at what they did with Rigald in the anime. Not only he's weaker than the manga, he's also dumber. What's with the whole DBZ-like power up (already said, I know), and then throwing a column at Clare? Lame intimidation attempt, and it made him look even dumber than Duff.

Clare getting her speed under control was also just too fast. I understand they want to save something for a possible Clare/Priscilla showdown, but it was more realistic when she used her sword to stop herself.

All in all, the fight was decent provided you haven't read the manga. Then it just looks a bit cheap.

Funny, there were a lot of complains about how much screen time Raki got, but not about the number of times we saw Clare crashing through buildings.

Clare getting her speed under control was also just too fast. I understand they want to save something for a possible Clare/Priscilla showdown, but it was more realistic when she used her sword to stop herself.If I'm not mistaken, she controls it in the same chapter she gets it. Talk about fast.

I like on Miria her leader Skill, but with the latest "frustrates" postings here, i found Galatea's fit better now for me...She keeps a cool head.

Yip, looks like i cannot give Clare the nickname "Copycat" anymore. Because this is an own skill of her. the speed and the controlling of it.. Well in same strange kind of way :)

OK, now I've watched it, so I can comment.

I was forewarned, so the disappointment of not seeing some manga elements animated was pretty mild. Oddly enough, this time I didn't feel like comparing manga and anime too much. Maybe because this episode was almost all action, and I mostly care about the story.

I have too say, the episode wasn't so bad. The fight was DBZ-esque at times (Look! We're invisible!), but it was OK. The column throw made a certain amount of sense, if you forget the part where he wastes time by explaining it, and Clare decides to just wait for him to make his move instead of jumping out of the tactical hole she'd fallen in.

Anime Rigald does lose some of his superb when compared to his manga counterpart (power issues aside, he doesn't look quite as smart, and is more easily rattled), but I can live with that.

A question occurred to me: when did Raki learn to ride? I've never sat on a horse, so I don't know, but don't you need some training to stay on a galloping horse, and make him go where you want, and stop when you want?

Honestly, I am quite mad at what they did with Rigald in the anime. Not only he's weaker than the manga, he's also dumber. What's with the whole DBZ-like power up (already said, I know), and then throwing a column at Clare? Lame intimidation attempt, and it made him look even dumber than Duff.



But Rigald/Ligardes IS weaker now... he lost his right arm, in other words, his main arm. So he lost at least 50% of his Atack Power... more than enough for him to be a little worried. :D

And, as far we know, Ligardes never had so much difficulty with an enemy besides Isley before. So probably he is a little apreensive and desesperated, playing with all his tricks so he will not get killed by Clare. He's not thinking straight.

And don't forget Clare is not the only enemy out there. What if Miria recover herself? Without his main arm, she could take him down all by herself, too.

But Clare IS a fast learner! Look how much time she spent to learn the Light Sword tecnic from Irene, and the Youki Control tecnic from Galatea.

It's pretty obvious that the yoki that is pouring out of Claire is Theresa's yoki, thats what scaring the piss outta priscilla.

well i have to say i didnt really hate ep 22 that much. I guess it was the hope of raki getting captured again or somehow magically not get to pieta, but that faded. I was deeply disappointed in ep. 23. I eventually got over the fact that it wouldn't follow the manga, but the whole time raki came and just cried kind of pissed me off. All he did was freakin CRY!!! i guess i will have to watch the rest to see if madhouse can save this somehow...hopefully...=/

I loved this episode. It didn't have the pacing problems of the last episode, and I don't expect anything close to the manga at this point, so the anime version is an entirely different creature to me, and I like it so far. Clare is ROCKIN' DA HOUSE!

oh man I am so conflicted b/c I LOVE the Manga so much and I know the anime is going off track but I still love this anime. I mean, in a way b/t the manga and anime we get two different endings so if you don't like one of them then you can just pic the one you do like...this is oddly optimistic of me.
Epi 23 was intense, the chop style of the fight was at times hard to follow and Raki was such a whiner... Clare is fighting to save everyone and he just sits there and cries?!!!?!!! What was he expecting to do? Hold her hand and say "it's ok clare I know things are tough but together we can do anything"...please Raki just go back to being Priscilla's pet and leave clare to her comrades. Priscilla's reaction was very interesting and she should be scared ! I wish Clare would tap into more of Teresa's power so she does not have to push herself to her limits. I suppose I will settle with...good epi but not the best.

Yeah. Irene felt such familiar youki coming from Clare, too.

And no wonder Priscilla is scared. Not only she thought Teresa was death, probably she remember how much powerful she was. If had not used that coward sneak atack, Priscilla would be the one dead.


Just a thought i got... How could a semi-awaked #47 female Claymore defeat a fully-awaked #02 Male Claymore? :hmm:

But they didn't know about Teresa's gigantic amount of Youki. She could fight Abissals using just 10~30% of her power.

Apparently, getting Teresa's flesh and blood inside her, Clare got some kind of hidden potencial. When using just 10~50% her youki, she is the weakest. But if she use 80+ of her power, in other words, when she's about to awake herself, she will awake her hidden potencial too. That's why she can fight even Ligardes.

Is Galatea able to force the Emergency shutdown inside Clare's Berserker rage? Can she cool down the inner Wild Fire of Clare?
Must Raki be saved from Helen with her Skill? Because Clare don't remember him?
Must the remain Claymore nakamas, fight against an Awakened Clare?
Will Riful appear? Will Pricilla change into her old self? Will both of them survive?
Who or better, what is isley? (for Admin. Rigardo say it himself, that he fought Isley a long time ago, and we saw a Shape of Isley in his AB Form... or some kind of it..)

Hmmm... ok, the manga story is pretty much gone now, but I will not rable on about that anymore. :p

The story as it develops now brings up one possibility for me...

Somehow Clare will end up fully awakened BUT controlled... breaking the rules completly, so to say. Combining Clares (first real) powerup (wich was not red like Rigardos') and her (relativly easy) victory over Simba afterwards + Pris' reaction on sensing (I guess) Teresas Yoki = Clare will awaken as a sort of hybrid AB (Teresas cells and Clares strong will) that will be stronger then even an AO (call it a Pris posetron). I mean, Teresa WAS the most powerful Claymore ever, afterall. If she will faceoff Pris or not I can not tell, but I think so.

Somehow I guessed something like that since Clares 1st near awakening in the cathedral (I didn't know the manga back then, though). I mean, she was running about, breaking the "rules of Yokipowerlimits" in one way or the other all the time.

How the final ending will be I can not tell either... I just hope they don't make it a: "Powerup - Rigardo down - Powerup some more - Easly dead - Final Powerup - Pris gone" thing... that would be really DBZ.

This episode on it's own was not really BAD... but I hope MH did plan the rest of the series from here on out very carefully, or it could very well lead to a horribly cheesy ending.

Loved the episode, wasn't even phased by the Raki scenes this time, and my lovely Tabi got some screentime even though she didn't have any lines but still...

and I'm guessing they're saving the further stages of Clare's awakening for a showdown against Pris (I have a feeling that Easley will escape Clare's wrath and just slip away for some reason).
