View Full Version : Anime/manga/game with the most fanwork
I think it's a fairly simple question. This isn't a question about which series is the most popular, but rather which one has the largest and best volume of fanwork (basic fanart, doujinshii, doujin games, music, etc) dedicated to that series.
For example, Higurashi is probably more popular than Touhou, but the latter, as far as I can see, has magnitudes more fanwork than the former. So which is it?
From my observation, I think it comes down to either the Typemoon games or the Touhou series for sheer volume of fanwork. Hundreds of doujinshii, thousands of fanart for either series. Both also have many fan-based games as well, and Touhou has an enormous volume of soundtrack remixes.

Is this a question that spans the entire history of anime fandom, or something relatively recent?
If you mean for all time, it's most definitly Evangelion. Without any question.
The amount of doujin work created for Eva outnumbers everything.
Second place is very hard to guess, but from my experience, I would say probably Sailor Moon.
Typemoon's Tsuki-hime and fate franchise does have a very, very large doujin market.
Out of the adult game franchise, it's most likely the biggest, followed by To Heart.
But it doesn't hold a candle to Evangelion. There's a huge diffrence between "popular among otaku" and "cultural phenomenon". :heh:
You would expect the largest franchises such as original Gundam, Doraemon, DBZ, etc to have more fan-works, but alas, what drives the fandom the most is how sexy the characters are, apparantly. :heh:
Well...It would really be kinda hard to answer...In order to answer this, you either got to find someone who has seen, played, and read every single anime and game....Or do like 30000000000000000000 hours worth of research. I don't honestly know...but I would have to agree with Aohige...Out of all the fan art I've seen, most of it was from Evangelion....
