Ah...that's right. If you really want to know, go to www.baka-tsuki.net and click on Clannad in the side bar. Scroll down until you seen the "SEEN" files. Those are text logs for the game in both English (preliminary translation) and it's original Japanese text. You should be able to read the entire after story. Please help out with the translation effort and edit errors in the text. You might just save another editor a few hours of scrolling :D
Im sorry I was a fool i closed the clannad game before the after story option open and im in it now I have no clue what im doing now xD
Also I unlocked with 7 lights and seems that Im randomly pressing stuff now so a question any english or chinese guide of the afterstory please?

After Story is very short. Won't even take 5 hours to finish it, but you'll need a lot more time than that to recover from the tears.

Just curious...
Why does Clannad have such an unearthly airing time in Japan? On the various channels that broadcast it (TBS, MBS, CBC, BS-i), it's shown either at 1 or 2 in the morning o_O!!
See here: http://www.tbs.co.jp/clannad/
This time slot would seem reasonable if Clannad were...
(1) Some adult film,
(2) Some extra-low budget, low-quality production,
(3) A re-run.
But as it's none of these, why??
Klashikari

This is because CLANNAD is basically a show destined for "otaku".
In japan, midnight-ish time slot doesn't exactly mean its content has anything to do with ero, low budget or so. Basically, this kind of show are not really worthing prime time slots, which are obviously reserved for mainstream shows (shounen and such) while usual pogram take the biggest chunk (news, etc).
This is basically the "fate" of all anime series that aren't mainstream (so shounen destined for the large public) and such.
Most people don't really have an issue with that considering they simply record it etc.
Just curious...

This is quite typical of anime that is neither aimed at children nor "mainstream". For various reasons, kids shows aside, most anime airs at such hours (although more objectionable material does tend to get pushed back even further into the early-morning hours).
Edit: Klashikari beat me to it. That'll teach me to space out in the middle of composing a post! :p

And I'm sure almost all of us here download the episodes anyway, so time shouldn't matter too much.
Can someone explain more in depth about the timeslots and the contents of them?
GyroidFanatic

It's quite similar to the US. Everything that can be marketed towards kids is aired in the morning or evening, and all the stuff for adults are aired closer to midnight or later.
tripperazn
2008-01-04, 17:14
It's like Adult Swim if you've been to the US. While Naruto (cut version) can air in daytime hours when kids are watching TV, these shows need to wait for hours like 12-5 am when kids are sleeping and cannot see the blood/gore/violence/language present in these shows like Trigun which are less heavily cut.
For example, Code Geass features has some heavy fanservice shots and blood/gore shots. Originally, that wasn't possible with a slot in the day. But after they moved the show to midnight, they included the more "adult" material.
Only otaku with recorders watch these shows anyway, so the time slot is really irrelevant.

Thanks for explaining, everyone!!
Hahaha, I guess it just never registered on my mind that this show would be geared towards otaku.
Perhaps it's because (surprisingly?) I was introduced to the whole Kanon-Air-Clannad series by my female friends, one of whom was a fansub translator for Air. Come to think of it, those girls even enjoyed Shuffle!, which I absolutely hated :heh:
I guess anime viewer stereotypes (i.e. what sort of shows are for what sort of people) aren't as established outside Japan, so we have more freedom to watch whatever anime series we wish! A good thing :p

Wikipedia quotes the scenario writer as saying that Clannad "means family or clan in Irish". I don't know how accurate that is.

Clannad is named that way because it carries the theme of family, just like how Kanon uses the theme of memories and the past repeating, like the musical form "canon".

No prob. Yes, "kazoku" means family. Dango Daikazoku is representation of the theme. It is roughly translated as "big dango family", "big" not meaning the dango themselves are big, but they are a large family.

But you want to know if their parents appear in the game, right? Well, as far as I know, there aren't any dialogues nor references attributed to them.

Nope, it's not against the rules, but it's best if you ask these things privately--if you just pay attention to the board, those who appears most often in the Last Posted column are probably most experienced and will can you a lot. Afterall, anime downloading is only partially legal.
This has been bugging me forever.
When Tomoya give Fuuko back her knife in like episode 3, is it sharpened, or still blunt? Is that ever said anywhere in the VN, LN, or anime? I know it doesn't matter, it just has been annoying me. :(
Klashikari

Nope, in either the game or anime, there isn't any information about it.
However, considering that Fuuko doesn't seem to cut herself afterwards, we can assume that Tomoya sharpened the knife.
Might redo her route, but i'm pretty sure there isn't any direct mention of that.

Looking at later episodes, it doesn't seem like her hand is bandaged either, so I guess that makes sense. Thanks! :)

I checked her route once again (huh, faster than I thought :heh:) and i guess i will correct my point: Tomoya completely forgot about the knife he snatched her yesterday. However, when he gave it back, he warned her that if she is ever hurt again, he will take the knife back once again.
And speaking of which, she hurt herself again later in her route (only once though).
I guess she just followed Tomoya's "advice", but it looks like Tomoya didn't do anything with the knife.

I'm entering this thread for umpteenth time, only this time I've come to seek help. So far I've been the game unassisted (translation only, no walkthroughs).
The latest save I have is SEEN1427 (http://www.baka-tsuki.net/project/index.php?title=Clannad:SEEN1427). I'm currently trying to enter Fuuko's path while Tomoya and Nagisa are a couple. Should I be whacking myself on the head for doing something like this on my FIRST playthrough? After reading some of the posts, I would consider restarting, but I've already used up the first 60 save slots.
I really could use some help here.
EDIT: Question about the upcoming XBOX360 version: Any word on what the achievements will be? If the "Fuuko Master" ones and various others are in, it could be invaluable in keeping track of what you've gotten and what you haven't.

I've got a small question...I've been hearing that Clannad might take more than 24 episodes just to tell everyone's storyline so Kyoto Animations might cut it short to 24 episodes and continuing on with another season of Clannad...so far they did Fuuko and Kotomi's story and they still got Kyou, Tomoyo and Nagisa.
Is it true that Kyoto Animations might have to split Clannad up into two seasons just to properly finish up all the stories??

This is unfortunately one of the rare case of irreversible "bad end". Not like it will be bad, but it won't count it as Fuuko's end because of "this".
I would suggest you to redo the route you are doing.

Clannad is a very HUGE story, and trying to fit it within 24 episodes is nothing but foolishness until they butcher like mad.
Considering the various "rumors" of 4 seasons (which means 4 block of 12-14 episodes, so in fact 4 cours) and KyoAni pace, we can assume there will be additional 24 episodes.
Keep in mind it isn't officially confirmed so.

wow, I never knew that Clannad was such a huge story...especially for Nagisa's story, since I've heard throughout this thread that her story is the longest out of the girls.
Seeing as how they also got Haruhi 2 in the works, they might do the unthinkable and rush all the stories in one season...although two seasons full of 24 episodes doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Well this is really a problem for every AVG players---many want to save at every possible branch locations so they can go back and watch every single conversation--no problem at all.
All you need to do is go to your CLANNAD directory, and in a file called SAVEDATA contains all the saves in your game.
Create a new folder somewhere else named 'Fuuko' for you Fuuko saves and copy all the files in SAVEDATA into the new folder(except for the save999.sav, which contains the master save which would not show up in the save/load slot)
If you need more save slots for Fuuko, just create another folder called 'Fuuko2' etc.

CLANNAD is probably going to finish within 24 episodes--I've recieved information on...
Nagisa's route will start in 2 episodes. Judging from KyoAni's trend, they've always put the main heroin's route in the very end. And Nagisa's story will last for about 3 episodes--then we'll have After Story in about episode 18 we think.
Keep in mind it isn't officially confirmed so.
Same for my spoiler--it's not confirmed yet.

Once you've read the FAQ, one thing to be aware of is that the "HD" eps are actually not HD at all. They are, in fact, upscales from a lower-definition source (which was MADE lower-definition so as to protect DVD sales revenues). With that said, don't be too surprised if some of us gripe about "damned BS-i" or words to that effect. ;)

I've been meaning to ask; why does Tomoya call Akio "ossan"?
I'm not sure what exactly it means, but I'm guessing it's a contraction of "otousan". This would imply a certain closeness in their relationship than should be the case, almost as if Tomoya were regarding Akio as a father...or even a father-in-law. 0_o
Klashikari

I've been meaning to ask; why does Tomoya call Akio "ossan"?
Ossan is the abreviation of oji-san, not oto-san. Basically, it is kinda a familiar way to adress to him, because using aniki/(o)nii-san would be quite illogic here.
The reason behind it is because Akio is also quite "familiar" with him as welm, using teme (rude "you", much more than "omae", but not as offensive as "kusama") and kozo (brat/kid). Their relationship is quite special, as they respect each other, but they certainly don't want to show that. Hence, they are using some teasing familiar way to adress each other (as normally, the above words would be rude/offensive in a lot of cases)

I wasn't sure where to ask this, but does BS-i broadcast Clannad on a different day or is it every Thursday like the others?

Yes they actually broadcast on the same day, every Thursday, at 25:00 to 25:30 (55 minutes before the most recent episode is broadcasted on TBS)
Since my question has to do with both the anime and the game, I'll post it here.
So, in the anime so far I know we have covered the routes of Fuuko and Kotomi. I also know that Toshio Koumura made an appearence in the Fuuko route. Did the anime cover the events in his route, or does a possibility still remain that there is more to be seen about him later on?
Koumura sensei made his Fuuko route intervention in the game as well; and yes, his route is independent from this event, so the anime could still perfectly fit his route in.

So, is the Kotomi arc the only arc I can safely play in the game without spoiling the events of the future parts of the anime and ensuring that I will be able to play the full game? (Since not doing Koumura directly after Fuuko apparently cuts out two scenes?)

You'll be fine with both Fuuko and Kotomi.
No, don't worry. You can do Fuuko's route without spoiling yourself anything about Koumura's route. As I said, they are independent. Take it as Kyou, Nagisa and Ryou intervention in Kotomi's route. They don't affect each other.

I thought that Iamandragon said on page 3 that if you don't do Koumura's route directly after Fuuko's arc you cannot access a scene in Nagisa's arc nor can you access a scene in the after story. Or did he mean something else?

says 90min on Amazon.co.jp's site for the collector's edition so I'm not sure if that's the actual movie length, or includes bonus footage if there is any.
Quick Question: what exactly are the ages of the main characters? their in highschool right?
thx

Most probably 16 or 17, like most other high school animes.
Third year in high school, is 17 (I think).

Canoncially, Tomoya is 17 years old, while Nagisa is 18 (she will be 19 during the christmas of the current year the story takes place). Kotomi is "currently" 18 years old.
As for Youhei, Kyou, Ryou and Fuuko, they are all between 17-18 (I don't think they ever mentioned their birthday or age for these characters).
Tomoyo, obviously, is still 16-17.

Not really earth-shattering or anything, but - I've seen on wiki and other forums random bits of trivia about the characters such as "Akio is into the Gundam fandom" or "Sunohara's favorite song is the Tenjou Tenge opening" - did this information ever come up in the original PC game or just a fanbook or doujinshi or something? If it is from the game, does it also appear in the PS2 port (as I remember stuff about KFC and Card Captor Sakura had to be removed from the Higurashi port.) Just curious about all these little copyrighted things...

Higurashi is a different story, because the PC version of it is a doujin game.

Good point - so Key probably could afford to get permissions from the beginning. Thanks for answering.

Good point - so Key probably could afford to get permissions from the beginning. Thanks for answering.
Someone mentioned copyrights earlier on in the thread. That's only part of the equation, and certainly not the only one.
Before I continue, I invoke the ever-popular "IANAL". If you want legal advice, buy it from a lawyer.
The main type of intellectual property they're talking about here is trademarks. Unlike copyrights which have a set term (which, in the United States, seems to get longer for as long as Disney can buy lawmakers and the SCOTUS can maintain the Eldred v. Robert Ashcroft decision), trademarks last as long as the owner defends their trademark. If the owner does not properly defend their trademark, they risk losing it to being generic (e.g. "zipper", "aspirin") or a genericized trademark (e.g. Google, Xerox, Sheetrock, etc).
Hope this helps.

i'm aware that there's a tomoyo after manga, however, i've only been able to find the first two chapters translated. is there any word on when the other two chapters will be scanlated?
Canoncially, Tomoya is 17 years old, while Nagisa is 18 (she will be 19 during the christmas of the current year the story takes place). Kotomi is "currently" 18 years old.

Kyou and Ryou were born on September 9th. Tomoyo was on October 14th. Kotomi is 5/13. Fuuko is 7/20. Nagisa is 12/24.
I cannot find Youhei. So, after 5/13, Kotomi is 18, Nagisa is 18, Kyou/Ryou are 17, Tomoyo is 16, and Fuuko is 15.

Fuuko is 15
You sure? She's 17 years old, a year younger than Nagisa, because she entered high school 2 years before the beginning of CLANNAD. That's what I learned from playing the game.
If she wasn't in a coma, she would be currently be a 3rd year student.

Err, nope. I just remembered (and also checked) about the Fujibayashi birth date, and it is on September 14th.
And yep, Fuuko IS 17. (though where her precise birthdate was shown in fact? I remember she mentioned july in the game, but without much precision). Same question for Tomoyo (I guess I was too fast on her route XD)

No there isn't such thing to my knowledge, until it is a novel, just like "Clannad - Another Stories" (yes, engrish plural).

Ah yeah, Fuuko is 17. I forgot about the 2 year thingy.
All of my information comes from the Clannad Visual Fan book, which has all the birthdays. They had Kyou's birthday at 9/9, so maybe Ryou was born 5 days later?

can identical twins be born 5 days apart? atleast...i thought they were identical twins, not fraternal twins...
Oh...I just wonder...
Why Tomoya and Kyou call each others by first name but Tomoya and Ryou call them by family name?
I think it's because Tomoya has known Kyou longer, and in Japanese culture if you've known someone for a while it's fine to call them by their first name. But in Ryou's case, she's not that close with Tomoya therefore they use family names to address each other.
Erm...What actually "Clannad" means?
Is it "family"?
The name is kind of a homage to the Irish band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clannad) of the same name. CLANNAD for that band actually means Clann as Dobhar, which would translate as the family of dhore. In CLANNAD the game case, the name is supposed to stand for Clann as dango, a family of dangos, dango daikazoku :)

Is there a way to play the Clannad game without switching to Japanese Unicode? While I can play Clannad it messes up my other stuff. >_>
Hmm... it's been a while since I last used Windows by why don't you try applocale? It has saved me more than once before with my Asian font encoding issues :p
2H-Dragon
2008-02-13, 08:58
Just tried it doesn't seem to work. I tried it on the launcher. That came in good japanese, but the actual game crashes(same witout applocale). After that I tried it on the actual exe that starts up the game directly same result. :|
As requested, here's the 300 hour guide translated:
The 300 hour guide is actually derived from the 90 hours guide, so I presented here first:
CLANNAD 90 hours walkthrough
90 hours is the official time for finishing the main routes, completing 100% and BGM. But experienced players might be able to do it faster.
<attention>

<tips>
Ichinose Kotomi route is completely independent from other routes, and can be done anytime you like.
Ibuki Fuko route is independent from other routes as well, but should be completed eariler.
Miyazawa Yukine and Mei Sunohara can be played parallel. On the 20th of April, save on the first choice.
If you choose to 'help', then enter Mei Sunohara route
If not enter Miyazawa Yukine route.

After Story will be unlocked after getting 8 lights and finishing Nagisa + Fuko's route. If you made a wish for Fuko then it will be unlocked with 7 lights
You only loose lights for once. Repeating the same event will not deduct anymore lights.

On the 15th of Apirl, Sunohara Yuhei has two verisons of songs. This is determined wether you choose to record into his tape or not.

I don't have a detailed walk through for the after story, but here are the choices given, so I'm translating from another place. However if you use the following walkthrough for After Story you'll have to follow MY play order(Fuko->Koumura->Nagisa) and do all the choices exactly as seen in the detailed Nagisa walkthrough above:
As usual, the '*' marked are the essential ones. The rest you can improvise.

Repeating scenes.
Some scenes have various versions to it that you can play it again and find new items! Things include:
There are a total of 7 versions of songs you can record into Sunohara's tape in the beginning of the story! Can you get it all?
There are two versions of songs Sunohara will sing on the 15th. That depends weather you mess up his tape or not.
Complete After Story once and return to Tomoyo route. Sunohara's face will deform at some point when beaten!
In Fuko's route, do various pranks to get the title Fuko Master and eventually Fuko Ninja and you'll have Fuko appearing like a ninja when you reply Tomoyo route

do we think
will we have season 2 from clannad?
I think it's because Tomoya has known Kyou longer, and in Japanese culture if you've known someone for a while it's fine to call them by their first name. But in Ryou's case, she's not that close with Tomoya therefore they use family names to address each other.
Well, I thought about that, but still, Tomoya met Tomoyo at the first time but had never called her "Sakagami".
And he always calls "Sunohara" but "Youhei".
I don't know JPese so it's really really complicated.
do we think
will we have season 2 from clannad?
Right now there is no confirmation, and we probably won't get any until after Episode 24 in a special announcement, if there is a second season at all.
Also, a question. Did Maeda Jun write Kotomi's scenario, or was that another scenario writer?

No, Maeda Jun wrote Nagisa, Tomoyo, Fuko and some other characters.
The one who wrote Kotomi was a new member among Key crew after Kanon, Suzumoto Yuichi (IIRC, he only did that route).
kai, the last scenarist did Kyou/Ryou and Kappei (and some parts of Yukine's route).

That would have been quite a clever piece of bilingual wordplay (particularly for one very few could be expected to get), except clann as Dobhar only translates to family of Dore in the sense of family from Dore. Likewise, clann as dango would be family from Dango.
An interesting piece of information you have there :) Well, what can I say, the Japanese are infamous for butchering foreign languages despite their passion for them, but in this case it was well intended, so that little slip can be forgiven... I guess? :heh:

I'm actually impressed at just how close they got it. ^^
I have an important question, but first I must apologized for my totally bad english, i'm a german fangirl ^^
I have read that Nagisa will die in the AfterStory, and later on her daugther Ushio, too. Does this mean there is no happy ending for Tomoya/Nagisa? but some of you guys talk about the TrueEnding...? what is that? Happyending or sad, i must now this before clannad ends.
i don't understand these game protocols, which are post when someone aks this question. can anyone please answer without any link, but with a few explanations (here in the thread) about the Clannad-ending?
i hope someone understand what I mean and this question isn't too bold.

You should double-spoiler tag that. :)
And:
True ending requires that before Nagisa dies, you have all 13 light orbs.
hope the spoiler is better now.
but happens after that any miracle to save Nagisa and Ushio? I don't want to believe that Tomoya and Nagisa doesn't have an happyending T_T

i think i can't play the game, i'm not that good with a PC u_u

please please give me an answer for this question :help:
there are two endings for nagisa, one with a sad ending, and maybe the True ending where everything became good?

In the game, like with all routes, the After Story has a good ending and a bad ending. However, unlike most visual novels, you are required to get the bad ending. In the first playthrough of After Story, you are doomed to the bad ending of Nagisa's and Ushio's death. However, if your light orb count gets up to 12, you can go and do a second playthrough, and a choice will appear where there wasn't one before. If you choose the right one, you go into Akio's route where you gain the last light orb. Then, with 13 you can go back to the birthing scene and a choice will show up. If you pick the right choice, this will lead to the true and happy end where Nagisa and Ushio live.
This is what I've gathered. I may be off in slight portions at places because I haven't actually played After Story for myself, however, this is the general gyst of it.
velocity7
2008-02-16, 14:03
Actually you don't get a choice the first time through. It'll automatically go to True End in that case. After that, you can opt for either option.

I WANT TO ASK
when (Kyoto or bsi ) will realae the schedule about which anime will come in spring and full 2008
Kyoto generally announces when an anime is slated to air about a month and a half before the first episode. They don't seem to release their planned upcoming shows in any real fashion, but they do sometimes announce them after the last episode of a series.

Kanon '06-Lucky Star-Clannad-?
Hey all!
Im new here to chat and talk about anime, but right now i request help for the Clannad Game..
Im stuck on the Kyou Arc and i have played through 4 times and got a bad ending, its driving me insane :eyespin:. I have gotten to the very touching part where Tomoya and Kyou talk in the rain (she runs off, tomoya goes inside and Ryou runs off, and straight to menu), FAIL, I have tried going all the way with Ryou (Straight to credits), FAIL, i have no idea what im doing wrong, i followed the 90 hour walkthrough (which im great for that you wrote, it helped me with Tomoyo Arc) and i followed precisely what it said and i still Fail, im Ryou's shyness is cute i guess but seriously its starting to drive me up the wall :upset:, now all i ask for is "what should i choose?"
Me and my sanity would seriously appreciate some help..
Thanks.. :)
On May 7th, chose "Call out" and that will bring you down the Kyou path. I found it out through trial and error...and about 7 replays from April 28th. I seriously love that fast forward through the text option.

Is that an alternate path to Kyou's route other than the "I like short hair/long hair" choice?

Nope, that's the last choice you get to make ever in their route...
BTw in the OP who is the person shown laying on the ground in the forest (it'd be at like the 48 sec mark..well for ep 18 neways......)
it shows a girl laying on the ground....then a guy.afterwards. in like a forest. but it's hard to tell who it is........?
any idea's guys.
thx
Hmm... at this point I think it'd be more fun to speculate about who are those people. Anyway don't worry, it will be answered in due time ;)
I was afraid of that.
I went ahead and did Nagisa's route before Fuko's.
I noticed in the guide that it says if you make a wish for Fuko, you would lose a light orb. Since I didnt do Fuko's arc yet, during the part where I have to make that choice in Nagisa's arc, Tomoya automatically chooses to wish for her. Is that the reason why after I finished Nagisa's arc, a light orb doesn't appear?

Correct! ^^ But you've lost a scene in the After Story afterwards, unfortunately...
:(
Can I fix that by doing Fuko's route and then go do Nagisa's route again?

I think if you do Fuuko's and then Koumura's it should be fine... It's the same scene that's available in both.
There are no irreversable permanent flags, if I remember correctly. A replay should be fine.
About the series:
Why is she able to appear after everybody pretty much cant see her/ remember enough to recognize her anymore? Why didnt she use this "power" before?
Also:
1) In which anime/game/manga does Tomoya become the boyfriend of Kyou?
2) In which anime/game/manga does Tomoya hug Tomoyo because she confesses that she wants only Tomoya?
3) When does the DVD for the Clannad movie come out?
4) When does EPisode 20 come out (Someone said March 7 or 9, but I forget if that date was for the Movie DVD or the next episode)

When I load up the game, there are two error boxes that appear before the menu screen and at the Prolouge, there are many. I'm guessing it's because they game cant load them...
Is there any way to fix it?

In the game, no, he doesn't get any girl.
There is however one peculiar "exception"
After the drama between the fujibayashi twins goes deeper, Kyou decides to go out with youhei, so she can avoid being near of Tomoya, for Ryou's sake.
Despite being quite "excited" and surprised first, Youhei questioned Kyou alone afterschool. Knowing that both Tomoya and Kyou love each other, Youhei makes her think twice about her decision.
Yes, Youhei is really a great character.
Is it true that Sunohara doesn't get a girl in any of the endings?
That kinda sucks for such a good character.
It depends on who you are in real life. Being a girl myself, yes, he did get a girl in the imfamous bad end. But he got Mei as well. Not a romantic relationship, but that was the girl on the Sunohara route who he did get closer too.
Is it true that Sunohara doesn't get a girl in any of the endings?

Let's not forget Sanae posing as his girlfriend in Mei's route :heh: Not as close as he got to having a girlfriend as with Kyou, but still....

Episode 3 at 15:46 was the first meeting with Yukine on the SS-Eclipse WS release.

Yukine doesn't work in the library, but in the reference room, sort of a 2nd library where all the odd and unread books go.
I notice that sites such as ANN (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=7809), AniDB (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=5101) and Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clannad_%28visual_novel%29) are listing Clannad TV as 23 episodes but with a DVD only release on 16th July 2008 (it will be included on the last Clannad DVD release).
Could anyone confirm the last TV ep (episode 23) will be aired on 28th March.
In addition, AniDB lists the last episode (airing on the 28th March) as a Special (titled "Summer Vacation Chapter"), not as ep 23. Does this mean that the regular story ends with episode 22?

Yes, the last episode is indeed schelduled to be broadcasted on 28th march, named 番外編「夏休みの出来事」 (roughly: Extra episode "Summer break period").
Sites listing the episodes are reporting this matter, along with MOONPHASE. It has been confirmed that CLANNAD story will end with episode 22.

I looked through this thread and did not find this answer(Even though I thought it would already be answered), is the movie canon with the anime?
I have been watching the anime, and got curious and read the wiki article on Clannad. It seems to have a completely different plot than with the anime, but it closer to the movie.
I guess my question is "Are the movie, anime, and visual novels related?"
Thanks to whoever answers.

i have a somewhat similar question to TigerII, if i watch the movie (first DVDrip just released) will it spoil the remaining episodes of the series with Nagisa's and Tomoya's arc?
i watched the first 5 minutes of the movie, and it has a quite darker atmosphere than the anime, but is also more hilarious (Tomoya waking up Sunohara was FTW!:D ). so i'm quite eager to continue watching.
Thank you!
It will spoil your enjoyment. You can think of the movie as an extremely summarized version of the visual novel and the anime (which is a faithful adaptation of the visual novel itself). The movie introduces some elements that neither the VN or the anime touched, but for the most part I'd suggest waiting till the anime run is over for you to watch the movie. Otherwise indeed, you will see the outcome of Nagisa's and Tomoya's story, abridged and cut version.
So does anyone know of a site where I can read an indepth analysis/summary of the whole Clannad visual novel (including all arcs)?
Thanks.
Personally I'd suggest to get ahold of a copy of CLANNAD PC full voiced version now that it has been recently released and wait for the English patch, which is pretty close to completion though :/

If you want something that has symbolism and motifs and stuff, I don't know one. If you want a summary, read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Clannad_characters
This page has too many details listed for each character, making it basically a summary.
Note that you should only read this if you WANT to be spoiled on the entirety of the game.

Ok I saw the movie on crunchy and for me it was just bad. Horribly abridged story that threw away much of the intepersonal relationships that was absolutely critical to the tale. Half the characters were either cameos, personalities flipped up, or did not even appear in the story.
The movie tried to retell the tale that cannot be told UNLESS you have those relationships that forms the core of the tale. This is why despite the focus on Nagisa the story made absolutely no sense to me. The plot progression was like a flash of light and made no attempt to bridge the gaps. The character development came out of the blue at some points, most notoriously the one between Nagisa and Tomoya.
And I hated the characterization. Nagisa is unbearably optimistic, a complete turnaround from her character. Tomoya was relegated to an empty and passive observer, a complete deviation from self in the anime and game. If I didn't know the game and anime I'd be bored with them. Don't even get me started on Tomoyo, Kyou and Sunohara.
To me it was a failed attempt to begin with. Air did it right because you could tell the core of the tale with just the Misuzu, Yukine and her mother. You cannot tell Clannad's tale centering on Tomoya and Nagisa alone.
Personally I'd suggest to get ahold of a copy of CLANNAD PC full voiced version now that it has been recently released and wait for the English patch, which is pretty close to completion though :/
Suggestions on where one can order that? PM me if you think that is too much of an "advertisement"...
The most common sites people use for importing Japanese games in this forums are himeyashop and paletweb, so it's not much of a trade secret :p
Ah, thanks for the answer. The anime will not be going on for too much longer, so I will finish that first.

there are actually 2 additional versions along with the regular one:
Special Edition:
Movie DVD
Bonus DVD (TV and Movie preview promo)
Drama CD "Furukawa-san chi futatabi"Collector Edition:
Movie DVD and Movie Blu-ray disc
Deluxe booklet (Script of the movie, storyboard, etc).
Drama CD "dango dango dango"
Telephone Card As far as I could see around, Special Edition worth approximately $80 (without shipping), while Collector edition worth roughly $100 (though most online ship puts a discount on that item).

Episode 23 is called "The Events of Summer" and continues the story, though it could count as filler. I have no idea what Episode 24 is about. (Maybe a fanservice OVA?)

Same animation studio, though.
That wasn't my point, though. Winter season ends the week of Clannad 23's broadcast, because it's a week behind all the other shows. If they weren't doing something in spring season, they could just show Clannad 24 the week after, since spring season begins... the second week of April, I think?

I had a question :). Which should i watch first?
Movie or the series?
Does order matter at all?
Klashikari
2008-03-15, 05:37
The series is most likely the best choice to begin first, as it is a largely better ride to get touch with the huge character cast.
Also, watching the movie first will most likely dampen and spoil your series ride, even worse if the second season is confirmed for Clannad TV.
In most case, I would really suggest anyone not to watch the movie, until they are done with the TV series, while without minding being spoiled.
So I've played all the school life routes in the order the guide on page 3 gave and unlocked the After Story after I finished with Koumura's route (I had previously played Nagisa's route first before any other route). I decided to replay Nagisa's route just in case I would miss out something in the After Story because I played her route before Fuko's. After I was done with Nagisa's route again, an untranslated option pops up with something about the After Story in its content. What is the option asking? I assumed it was asking if I wanted to unlock the After Story again with the things I did again in Nagisa's route so I clicked the left option (assuming that option was 'yes'). Also, is there a more updated guide other than the one on page 3?
And my last question is, I've heard people talking about episode 24 would be some sort of OVA. Is this true? If so, can someone provide me with a source that confirms this?

Woah, wait a minute!
I thought Clannad was going to be a 24 episode season?
Wow, I guess they just summarized everything into what little time they had and just went straight to the point on what Clannad is truly about.
So now I've been hearing about a second season telling the "After~" story and bonus episode(s) in the last volume of Clannad...is this true?
I haven't been keeping up with Clannad...so far I've only watched up to episode 20...thanks to Brawl.:heh: (this is a first for me not to keep up with one of the animes that I usually would watch seasonally.)
And my last question is, I've heard people talking about episode 24 would be some sort of OVA. Is this true? If so, can someone provide me with a source that confirms this?
The TV series runs for 23 episodes. The regular story ends with episode 22 (which airs 21st March), the 23rd episode (which airs next week on the 28th March) will be a special entitled "Summer Vacation Chapter".
There is a 24th episode but this is a DVD only episode, this will be released on the 16th July 2008 on the last (8th) DVD.
You can confirm this with sites such as ANN (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=7809), AniBD (http://anidb.net/a5101), Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clannad_%28visual_novel%29), and no doubt the Official Site (http://www.bs-i.co.jp/clannad/) (but I can't read Japanese so can't confirm).
Just a quick question about the Toei Movie (I'm purposely avoiding the thread in fears of spoilers btw), does it cover more or less than what the TV series did? If i did watch it after episodes 22 of the TV series would it spoil any potential After Story content for the potential rumoured '2nd season' of Clannad TV?
If they do have a second season will it go into the after story arc? I heard the game has at least 13 alternate endings so could we see an ending different from the movie?

i dont really get what you asked, but if there is 2nd season, most likely it will be about the after story, and the 13 alternate endings.. is about other character endings, while after story only has 2 different ending
if kyoani stay true with the original material, we will see a different ending from the movie, if you really want to know the ending, please go to game spoiler discussion thread :)

Maybe you could make another favourite character poll soon (after next week's episode maybe), because I think that many people will vote differently this time. A lot of people voted when some characters weren't developped yet.
And it would be good to add some side characters this time as well (Yukine, Akio, Misae, Mei and such)
it will spoil potential after story content :)

Seriously I don't think I can wait another year (most likely time for Clannad season 2) for a release of season 2 that is, IF there is going to be one. I will most likely give in and watch the Toei's Clannad movie.
I'd just wait for the official announcement of this hypothetical s2 then. As I've mentioned before, it might be easier and more productive to decide after that than giving up now. And even if a late release date is the case I think ordering the game and playing it would be more fullfilling. But of course that is just my very personal opinion.

After Story CANNOT be told in one episode. There's no way it can be and maintain KyoAni's (presently) untarnished reputation. I'm told by reliable sources that After Story ALONE takes up a significant chunk of the story mass of CLANNAD (a good quarter to third).
As of right now, there are only unconfirmed rumors of when and how After Story will be presented, if at all.
If it is a DVD only episode, does that mean that it wont show up on places like youtube???
It'll very likely get subbed. Just keep your eyes peeled.

We are presently working on the motion picture. Other than that, I don't know where you can watch an unsubbed version, other than buying a copy of the DVD.
--Ian.
P.S. As for the motion picture, don't even THINK of counting on it being fully canon. Like their motion picture adaptation for AIR, Toei Animation had to take a LOT of liberties given the medium they elected to work with. Perhaps taking even more given the sheer mass of the source material. And I will concur with another voice on this thread, you WILL be spoiled if you only have seen the anime! You have been warned!

What are the chances that S2 will be released (in numbers, plz)?
2/(1 + e^x) where x represents the volume of the x^2/a + y^2/b = n function rotating around the y axis, a and b are constants, and n is the number of points the Dow Jones has at the moment you ask your question.
Failing that I guess fuzzy logic is a good guideline. Fairly probable given KyoAni past reputation for good adaptations, and considering that CLANNAD most important chunk is still missing, but other than my function up there it is quite difficult to guess any further given that there are no hints from KyoAni so far.

If I'm correct, and my mathematics is rather lost after all these years, the equation you posted is not a function as by definition a function has one definite (and real) x-axis value in relation to one definite (and real) y-axis value. A circle equation is therefore not a function... :uhoh:
Meanwhile, if you head over to here (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1489275&postcount=1333), you will see that I have found some information which may be of interest. LOL
o_o, although there are such a thing as complex functions, you are correct in that I should have limited my equation counterdomain to all reals above zero for it to pass the vertical testing. Other than the fact that I just cooked up a random equation on the fly as a small sarcasm and that it is totally irrelevant, I thank you for your piece of information on the other thread :)

Sorry if this has been asked and I missed it, but - is the movie version of the back-story for Sunohara and Okazaki canon? Or is it specific to the movie version? I'm thinking specifically of stuff like the shoulder injury and the soccer incident.
I can see why some people aren't that thrilled with the film, but it has it's moments. Any Clannad that give Sunohara some development can't be all bad.

The shoulder injury and soccer incident kind of are, but kind of aren't. Like, in the essense that they happened, yes. In terms of everything else, no.
Since the movie is visual, you can probably assume it was Toei's way to emphasize either the struggle/damage of the incidents or the pure distaste of clubs given the incidents.
Or rather, they animated it to a degree where the magnitude of the damage was sufficient enough to bring about the delinquent attitude.

As far as I know from the game (I've only played a few snippets from Nagisa's school life, mainly those accessible from other characters' stories)...
The shoulder injury and football fight are both canon. However, the way in which they occurred was not elaborated in the game as it was in the movie, i.e. the game does not mention that Okazaki crashed into a window or that Sunohara kicked a teacher in the groin. Additionally, Okazaki got into a fight with his father over the placement of shoes in the game, not because he refused a present.
Anyhow... these are just trivial differences. The general back story is the same so it shouldn't bother you. I think the movie portrayed Okazaki and Sunohara quite accurately (at least in School Life; don't know about After Story). I can't say the same for any other characters.

The reason some of them [Clannad and Hayate no Gotoku off the top of my head] aren't moved probably is because there is a second season impending.
The reason I doubt it's activity is because the Haruhi forum is more active than the Hayate forum.
Actually, now that I think about it, Haruhi has a second season impending, but it's still in the Older Series section.

well the story was made by Key who also make Air and Kanon, all of them originally was a pc visual novel game made by Key

Sorry I am a noob over here, I would like to know which routes give you the 8 lights that you can get during the school life? and also I am missing m 2 cgs, the last one from Missae's route, and the last one from Kyou's route.

1) Tomoyo, Misae, Yukine, Mei/Youhei, Kyou, Kappei, Kotomi, Koumura
2) Misae last CG should be get with the rest. If you do not get her light orb in Tomoyo's route, redo another playthrough on Tomoyo's route, but be sure to raise all flags for Misae (if you finished Misae's route before, of course).
If you have Kyou's cg hugging Tomoya's arm, this is the last CG of her route. The next one is Ryou and you must finish Kappei's route.
Anyone can give me some insight on this Tomoyo Edition? aside from being a one episode Tomoyo Route?

Anime(music) related question here:
In where can we find the tracks used in the anime? I'm mean the soundtracks, especially the orchestra version of 'hurry, starfish' (Fuuko's theme).
CLANNAD Mabinogi arrange album. Check the third track. So, there is no soundtrack for anime version except opening single, but all tracks are from different Clannad albums.

I have checked, still they sounded different. Thanks for letting me know, I'll keep watching over until whenever a new soundtrack CD is released.

You might tire out from the wait :)
It's just like a Kanon 2006 ost.
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Official Another Story Clannad? I tried Amazon, but they don't ship to Singapore...

I was wondering,
Is the ending from the Clannad Movie the same as the ending in the game?
In the movie Nagisa dies right?
Is the series essentially different from the movie?
Hope 2nd season won't have a sad ending (I just watched Air, so yeah ㅋㅋㅋ)

The series is quite different from the movie.
The ending in the movie is only about halfway through the After Story in the game, from what I've heard.
Nagisa does die, but she gets better, and everything does end happily.
It's not like AIR, so don't worry.
Some answers :
The ending in the movie is above 2/3 halfway through the After Story but with some differences.
Yes, Nagisa dies.
The main story is different in the movie. There are many changes not only in the plot, even in the main characters.
As for sad ending and good ending, i think, we will see them both animated.

Two random questions?
1) What is the name of the academy the students attend? I know it's never mentioned in the game, but I believe the anime gives it a name...
2) I can't for the life of me remember what episode Tomoya does the Konata-esque cat smile in. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

1) No, no info about it. Maybe, there can be some info in some official books, e.t.c.
2) Err... maybe, you can say some clearly ?

As answered already, there isn't any mention in any media of the story that indicates which school it is.

mea culpa, stand corrected :)
It is indeed interesting, especially that the game itself just leave it blank... I was almost certain of that, probably because Kanon received the same treatment IIRC...
What happens in the Ryou arc to make it a bad ending?

What happens in the Ryou arc to make it a bad ending?
Nothing, really. Just that the Ryou end is very abrupt and involves Tomoya having hope for their future, and nothing else.
Ryou remains spineless and weak, and Kyou never gets what she wants either.
In the Kyou route, however, Ryou improves tremendously, and although she loses out in the end, she's matured greatly thanks to Tomoya.
This improvement continues in Kappei's route, which is Ryou's good end.
That enough of an answer for ya?
Thanks!
Also, why do you need Misae's flags raised in order to get Tomoyo's light?

You don't.
However, you only get Misae's light after playing through Tomoyo's route, and the only way to get her to show up at the school in order to get her light is to help her find her cat earlier.
So you have to raise all her flags except asking to "come again" to her room.
Also, you previous playthrough to that MUST be Misae's route.
It's not that you need Misae's flags up for Tomoyo's route to be completed. It's more like Misae's light can only be got at the end of Tomoyo's route if you have those flags up.
edit: ... /me throws a rabid cat in Kaisos Erranon's general direction

That's too early to tell. There is absolutely no information of how Kyoto Animation will handle After Story (we don't even know its release date nor its length, so to speak).
Just wait and see.
:( ugh
well lets cross our fingers that she'll be in it.
i think they'll keep her since she has MANY fans
(like me :heehe:)
We have a chance that "Afterstory" will be this autumn.
Hey guys that pig thing? i forget his name thats always with Kyou?
