View Full Version : Clannad - Q & A

There was a rumor that the After Story DVDs will start being released this winter... so it'll probably start in the fall.
I have a question about the after story endings.
I've followed the walkthrough some pages back (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1191340&postcount=56) and the first and second went fine and I got all 13 lights. However when I followed the third one that was supposed to go to the true end
it cut off somewhere and ended soon after the choice between taking Akio's Porn, Sanae's (underwear I think) or nothing. However I loaded one from the first route as Ushio was being born and it gave me what I think is the True ending (Music with lots of CGs, Nagisa staying alive and Fuuko and Kouko doing their comedy act at the very end then Ushio being on the title screen.
Have I missed anything by getting it that way instead of how the walkthrough said? There wasn't an option to 'cry out for help' as it said in the walkthrough either.
Congratulations - this is a true ending, as for 'cry out for help' - it will be if you play next time.

I've tried looking for this information, but am coming up empty: the vital stats for the Clannad characters... can someone either point me in the right direction or list them here? (if listed here, height is all I need) :D
Thanks!!

Okay, this is Ryou (藤林 椋) :
誕生日:9月9日。身長:159cm。体重:47kg。血液型:O型
As for others - check the japanese wiki Clannad page (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/CLANNAD_(%E3%82%B2%E3%83%BC%E3%83%A0)).
I hear that in the game there is a baseball route. Is this true? If so how do you get to it?

Please check the following post (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=1338651#post1338651). I put every conditions/flags for the baseball route.
Is there any source for Tomoya/Sunohara's height?
I'm guessing Tomoya is around 185cm, Sunohara around 170cm?

Ryou is shorter and heavier than Kyou? And it seems like Tomoyo's the tallest too.
Unbelievable difference in 1 kg and 1 cm.

Maybe her bust makes up for it. :heh:

I had searched everywhere for a scan of Kyou's poster there, but could never find it. Also, it's a bit weird to see her dressed like that, and the poster used the game's character design. Makes me think...

I know you guys probably get this a lot but I was wondering (just started playing the game and all) if there was anywhere I could get a translation of the voices or words that come up when you're in the other world?

I don't have the game and I don't know what do you mean with "other world", but I know they are working on an english patch for the game here (http://clannad.thewafflehouse.net/index.php), but it's not finished yet. I hope that answers your doubts.

Thanks man, that helped :)
Another stupid question- I've just done Tomoyo's route (I think...) and looked through a walkthrough and I don't think I did much different to it, but I was wondering how you could tell how many lights you've picked up since I can't remember collecting hers.

You'll see them in the game's main menu. Kinda hard to see the lights in low brightness but once you see them you'll know they're there.

The little spots down in the bottom left hand side of the screen? Cool, thanks man:D
Note, you can see this lights even in anime after some episodes (actually, route-ending episodes, like in the game after ending a route you will get a new orb). Masterpiece. Kyoto adds even a small details.

hey really thats so cool. i didnt notice that in my first watch. do you know an episode number of when this occurs? i really want to see.
First light orb will be in episode 7. This orb should be Kouko's.
Btw, according to wiki -"Prototype also produced a PlayStation Portable version of the game released on May 29, 2008 which included the additions from the PC full voice version". What additions, for example ?

so do the IW robot and IW girl ever become important to the actual story of the characters? are they incorporated into the After Story? or is there purpose in the story completely metaphorical? if they are incorporated into the After Story, please dont tell me any spoilers!;)
Klashikari
2008-07-23, 14:31
They are core characters in After Story, or rather actually for Clannad as whole.
The purpose is both metaphorical and facts, you will see by yourself.
In the last ep of Clannad (I mean 24 ep) there was 6 light orbs.
Can someone remind me, whose they are?
one for Kotomi
one for Sunohara siblings
one for Fujibayashi twins
one for Nagisa
one for Tomoyo
i have no idea whose may be the six one
If KyoAni want to gather all light orbs then for school arc, there are 2 orbs missing right? So maybe there is little chance for Kappei route being animated?
I have no idea how KyoAni would fit his story into the rest... maybe next OVA?
So with kappei that would be 7 lights, still there is one missing^^'
In the last ep of Clannad (I mean 24 ep) there was 6 light orbs.
i have no idea whose may be the six one
Kouko Ibuki
No wonder that I didn't know whose could be the sixth orb...
Thanks
Klashikari
2008-07-30, 06:51
I don't think we can consider an orb for Nagisa (for obvious reasons).
Considering the timing for the second one, it would be rather Fuuko's.
Emm, you're right Klashikari, my bad. So if other one is Fuko/Kouko and if Nagisa cant have orb now, then who? Toshio Koumura? Misae? Because Kappei is out of question, and I don't think it's Yukine :P
Fuuko & Kouko - two different orbs in anime.
Rly? Then I think I'll rewatch Clannad again instead of studding maths.:heh:
Thanks.

Hey I was wondering if someone could shed some light on a plot point that's been confusing the heck out of me. Maybe someone who understands Japanese religion can help me ^^
1.In the Kotomi route on May 8th, which religion is most likely being referred to when it says "kami/god"? Is it referring to the Christian God(I can only assume so since Japanese religions are polytheistic)? If it is indeed the Christian God...
2. Why would theoretical physicists(Kotomi's parents) bother with the idea or believe in god??? Although its possible for scientists to be religious, theoretical physics is about the most atheistic discipline I can think of (>.<)
For a theoretical physicist to teach their child about god just doesn't make sense lmao!!!
So is there a cultural reason for my confusion, or were the script writers just not thinking that deeply?

1. AFAIK, no officially mainland Japanese religion explicitly defines the existence of a single god. Most likely it refers to a religion that is monotheistic, and given the circumstances it may be based on Christianity which was introduced into Japan.
2. Theoretical physics, and physics in general, attempts to investigate the nature and properties of this 3D universe and all interactions between phenomena, and such inquiries are not necessarily directed at the origins of the universe. Physics does not intrinsically attempt to debunk the possible existence of a creator, and assuming there is a god, physics main prupose is to investigate the reality of the universe this creator made. It is bound to discover this realm of existence and universe, and not try to answer if there is a god behind it all.

Sorry if this is already being asked/discussed, I read over some old discussion but I guess I'm a little slow...
Are you all saying that the light orbs from the game can be seen in the anime? I never noticed them. Were they obvious?
Klashikari
2008-08-19, 09:28
Yes, they are pretty much like in game: at the bottom of the tree, when the episode title is shown.

Supposedly more light orbs appear there when more character resolutios happen. I haven't noticed myself.
There is another theory according to which they appeared when a new CLANNAD DVD was released :heh:

Thanks for clearing up my first question. While I could argue profusely that the agnostic approach to science is a masquerade so that it can be politically correct, appeal globally, and be useful to everyone, I'm not gonna argue that here. The principle you present is widely accepted amongst the scientific community, so I'll leave it at that. m(_ _)m May our souls find eternal peace.

Edit: BTW...
As requested, here's the 300 hour guide translated:
The 300 hour guide is actually derived from the 90 hours guide, so I presented here first:

If you choose to 'help', then enter Mei Sunohara route
If not enter Miyazawa Yukine route.

On the 15th of Apirl, Sunohara Yuhei has two verisons of songs. This is determined wether you choose to record into his tape or not.

I don't have a detailed walk through for the after story, but here are the choices given, so I'm translating from another place. However if you use the following walkthrough for After Story you'll have to follow MY play order(Fuko->Koumura->Nagisa) and do all the choices exactly as seen in the detailed Nagisa walkthrough above:
As usual, the '*' marked are the essential ones. The rest you can improvise.

Some scenes have various versions to it that you can play it again and find new items! Things include:
There are a total of 7 versions of songs you can record into Sunohara's tape in the beginning of the story! Can you get it all?
There are two versions of songs Sunohara will sing on the 15th. That depends weather you mess up his tape or not.
Complete After Story once and return to Tomoyo route. Sunohara's face will deform at some point when beaten!
In Fuko's route, do various pranks to get the title Fuko Master and eventually Fuko Ninja and you'll have Fuko appearing like a ninja when you reply Tomoyo route

Hi, I am wondering what font is used for the Clannad title?
http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/1862/clannadff2.gif
This question is similar to this (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1895598&postcount=166) one - can someone proof it ? If this true - then Clannad should be originally produced in HD.

Not really HD, just an upscale... and they cut off the edges or do pan-and-scan for the broadcast version, rather than the cable version that airs 2 weeks later.
And it looks like they're doing that with AS too...
No, no. They clearly said that they are producing animation in HD starting from Kanon - that means that originally it was produced in HD-quality and isn't an upscale. But if this true - then why a) Kanon 2006 wasn't aired in HD b) next their project - LS - aired in HD but was an upscale c) Clannad wasn't in HD ?
What is this ?
Hmm. Maybe HD version is only for Blue-Ray release?

Can I ask which episode Tomoyo and Suzahara were in the bathroom together? Not the basketball scene, but when they're together in the urinal stalls.
It's in episode four... they are talking about the Sunohara's plan to ambush Tomoyo by getting her good side...
By the way, It's Tomoya and Sunohara not Tomoyo...Tomoyo is the girl..
Thanks, Sorry about that, I was watching a bit of Eva before asking @_@

About that HD thing, yeah...I can't understand why they didn't released in HD, too. They were able to upscale it successfully with Air, but why not do the same thing for Clannad & Kanon!?!
In this hi-def era flat-screen is getting bigger and bigger. It's just kind of ridiculous having to put the DVD on the 50'' plasma or a 24'' 1080p monitor & painfully watch all that pixels broken apart.
Clannad in HD would be awesome.....and to think it would be released in Blu-Ray format?
Is there any news about Clannad Blu-Ray release ?
relentlessflame
2008-10-03, 01:53
Is there any news about Clannad Blu-Ray release ?So far there hasn't been any indication of when (I won't even say "if") a Blu-Ray release might be coming, but they've been increasing the "otaku appeal" of the Clannad DVDs (in both first and now second season) with cool swag, which is telling. I'm thinking that at this point they're going to stay completely silent about Blu-Rays until sometime after all the DVDs are released, and then, maybe a year or two later, release the Blu-Ray sets in the hopes that people will buy it all over again. It's evil, but that's marketing for you... :heh: We do know that Kyoto Animation upgraded their methods to work in HD when they did Kanon, and Pony Canyon did release AIR on Blu-Ray even though it was an upscale, so there's no doubt in my mind that it'll happen eventually.

Should be the same as the first season.
Which means it'll be what, three weeks behind?
sakuravs
2008-10-03, 22:57
I can't see the rationale why they keep doing this awkward thing. Do you find it ridiculous? what are they supposed to do during that three-week grace period? drawing the extra frames? :frustrated:
Shinigami_Mello
2008-10-03, 23:11
Makes more money? Either way, it's not completely their fault, but also how the channel is.
Anyway, if they watch it 4:3, they see it cropped. And if they see it widescreen, faded colors. So more of an incentive to buy the DVD's right? XD
Well, that just may be my thinking.

What meaning is CLANNAD?
I think so that "an CLANN As Dango=CLANNAD"
Clann means the family by Irish.
That is dumpling family=Dango daikazoku.
What do you think?
That is has been mentioned over 7 times in this very thread. Thrice by truly yours.
QUESTION!
I remember waiting for widescreen version for the first season of CLANNAD, which aired one week after the original version I think. Will this happen for After Story as well, or is there only going to be one version airing?
Yes, it will be with the delay for 3 weeks at BS-i.
Damn it... I'd rather limit myself to just the widescreen episodes, but that means I'll have to wait like three weeks before I can watch it again...
Broadcast television is a cruel mistress...

I don't understand this 640x480 idea too. Maybe, some problems with the broadcaster. But there is no real meaning for waiting for ws release. Just simply wait for DVD.

Makes more money? Either way, it's not completely their fault, but also how the channel is.
Anyway, if they watch it 4:3, they see it cropped. And if they see it widescreen, faded colors. So more of an incentive to buy the DVD's right? XD
Well, that just may be my thinking.
It seems to me that they faded the colors of the already released 4:3, too. I have to admit that the video quality this time is horrible, it's like I'm watching with +50% brightness and -50% contrast (I can't believe the producer is that cheap). By the way, I don't think they did this kind of mean trick for the 1st season, since its color was more saturated & almost indistinguishable from that of the official DVD itself.
Well, it's understandable that they want to encourage DVD sale. But now it's just kind of daunting thinking how many more years til we'll be able to watch it in full color & full quality with Eng sub....and how dire situation it'd be if other companies start to follow up, since not every anime get licensed.
Actually, I'm so interested. Lucky Star was in HD (upscaled, but clear). But then stone age again ?

I'm sure the animator has nothing to do with this. Kyoani might be a defining aspect, but in no way is it the be-all-end-all. relentlessflame convinced me that other companies should be handling the marketing(Kadokawa, I think?) and broadcast(TBS), wherein we get our show from so far. And who are we to judge their methods when the fans are just lapping it up even when it's broadcast in 4:3 initially?
Life is just so much better in HD. :eyespin:

I have a question......is the game....like "done"
and does Season 2 (after story) take place at any part of the game.
if so.
Then Does Sunohara ever end up with anyone?
also is there some yuri implications with Ryou or Tomoyo? it seems so from the OP

No.

Well, this one is a definite yes though, everything in After Story so far is cannon :p
Actually, some events that are still from the school arc in anime - yes, but AS - no.
I think we should start making a definite distinction in After Story, the game section, and After Story, the second season: heh: (where the confusion came from) I vote for AS and AfSt

I'm new to watching Clannad so two questions
1) Does S2 take place after S1?
2) If it doesn't, should I even bother watching S1 or the movie that explains S1 in a nutshell?
Yes, the first episode of S2 takes place a few days after S1. You should watch S1 before or you won't understand jack and no, the movie is the 1:30 version of the WHOLE series (S1 and S2) (and a not so good one) so unless you want to see the hour and a half stripped version of S1 and S2, getting S1 would be your best option. And it seems it's still unlicensed, so you can still get it or stream it from the net without pangs of corporate guilt.
It would be a shame to get it streamed though, given the graphical and good art galore that CLANNAD is :p

You are talking about Nishina Rie, right?
No there isn't any route for Rie. She is only heavily tied to Nagisa's route and she might have some extra scenes later, but nothing past that.
She is "only" a support character, pretty much like Kotomi's guardian.

Regarding the Wide-Screen broadcasting. It'll be aired this coming Thrusday, the 23rd, on BS-i at 1AM (+9GMT). Which will be a Wednesday for most of us in the state side. 9AM if you're in PST.

Ah I see, thank you for clarification :) Still what about Yukine?
Simple answer. Yes. There is a Yukine Arc in the game. It's a minor arc that's required to get all the light spheres to unlock After Story.
1) What exactly happened to Youhei that made him stop playing soccer?
2) From Episode 3 of AfterStory, there was a part where Youhei didnt help the little girl that was being bullied by the kids. In a flashback, he helped his sister in the same situation before. Did something happen to him that made him change? if so, then what?

1. Spoiler if I say, but eventually the story will tell you why.
2. Spoiler again. And again, the story will eventually say so.
Both are the central points to this arc. If this question was in the game thread I'd answer it, but since this is the Q&A it'd be a big spoiler. PM me or someone if you really want to know, but the next episode should reveal it.

Hey guys... I have a question regarding the aspect ratio of the second season is coming out on... ... the first season was in a cool 16:9 format but for some reason I haven't found 16:9 subs for the second season (only the first episode) ... whats up with that? I have only seen 4:3 and they have clearly chopped both sides of the screen .... will there be a 16:9 version coming out????

You haven't been taking notice then :)
SS & Eclipse are releasing widescreen fansubs of Clannad ~After Story~. They released the WS format (16:9) of ep 1 only yesterday.
My understanding is that there will be a delay of a couple of weeks because the WS version airs a couple of weeks after the 4:3 version

The reason why I wait for SS and Eclipse's subbing works rather than Sprocket, even if they release it later than the aforementioned group. That and I like their sub work better, which is why I'm willing to wait for them to release the non-WS sub of episode 4 even if another sub is out.:D

Nice .. thanks for the speedy answer :) .... actually I have just finished watching the first season a few hours ago and saw the movie as well (total spoiler I guess... and if thats the path Clannad writers are going to take this story .. all I have to say ... DAM U Clannad writers for making my life so miserable !!!!) nonetheless I am now hooked on it and have to watch the second season. ....
Good to know that SS and eclipse are working on the WS versions cause I was thinking it would really be disappointing to watch this cool series (soon to become a sea of tears.. I guess..) ... in 4:3 aspect ratio....

First question is a spoiler for the current season -After Story-. I'll give you a hint. She plays a huge part in the lives of the characters.
Second: Clannad is licensed. See the thread in this sub-forum. Don't know the release date. I think somebody knows this.
Edit: 1st DVD will be released on April 2009.
Can someone tell me if clannad the movie is another story or the same as clannad the first season? I guess someone might have asked the same question but i didnt want to get any spoilers from checking all the pages and posts. Thanks
The same story based on Clannad and Clannad AS game parts as well but with a real variations in the plot. You will see here only main relationships between Nagisa and Tomoya and some later events (actually, ~30 minutes from AS part). This is an idea of the movie.
But as I said before - this is only a variation of the story because they changed some main things, but not all, so there are a lot of spoilers. Like Air TV and Air the Movie. Very good variation with an absolutely amazing ending, at least for me.

We have a thread on this topic, Clannad TV licensed by ADV Films (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=73157), and in the first post the release date for the DVDs was mentioned.
ADV Films have now announced their Clannad license consists of the 24 episode first TV series.
For more information see the ICv2 report, 'Clannad' Leads ADV Announcements (http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/13554.html).
Clannad TV torrents have now been removed from AnimeSuki, the Clannad Movie and the second TV series, Clannad ~After Story~, are considered unlicensed.
The first (of six) DVDs is due for release on 21st April 2009. The series will include the 22 TV episodes, the special entitled "Summer Vacation Chapter" and the DVD only "Another World, Tomoyo Chapter" episode.
The first TV series has been licensed but no word of the Movie, that is not considered licensed yet.
If you take both Clannad and Clannad AS, which is about 20 hours of material, and delete about 18 1/2 hours from them, you will end up with the movie. It almost feels like when you are watching the previews for a following episode, the fragmented jumping around that almost tells a story.
Hey, Clannadians :)
I'm just here to point out a few points about the Clannad Visual Novel, specifically about the two points in iamandragon's Walkthrough (Great translation on the guide! ;)).
The two points I will talk about is the Fuuko Ninja appearance and the Deforming Sunohara both in the Tomoyo Route. After spending a few hours wondering why I ain't getting them to appear. I started to try some tests and found that the point in the walkthrough isn't really clear (or it could have just been me ?)
Sorry if these have been pointed out before!
Fuuko Ninja: The guide pretty much tells you how to get to the Fuuko Summoner and Ninja stage. But I got abit confused when even when unlocked she didn't appear in any of the scenes. The answer was pretty simple, you have to have a few flags in Fuuko Route for her to appear during Tomoyo's Route (I normally end her route at 23rd April with the Option: Sleep).
Note, that Fuuko's Ninja appearance will end when you get to May 11th (Right after the School festival) You would have to get the Fuuko Summoner/Ninja in her route again, but if you have a few saved states in the Tomoyo's Route you can just watch them after re-unlocking it ;). Not confirmed, but achieving the "True End" in Fuuko's Route may be the only way to get the game to know that you've unlocked Fuuko Ninja.
Deformed Sunohara: Just a tiny nitpick on the how to unlock this, because I was utterly confused why it didn't, even after completing all the endings in After Story. But it unlocked yesterday while I was going through the route, with the only difference being that I got the 64-Hit Combo during the School Festival. So I'm pretty sure that the requirements is the 64-Hit Combo, along with getting True End in After Story (?).
The day you will see his face getting deformed is during April 17th, during those times you chose to accompany him to "see" Tomoyo.
Just thought it would good to know, and again I apologize if it's already been posted before (I checked this and the Game thread briefly, and didnt see any signs of it)
Long live Clannad!

:uhoh: Ok, I don't want to sound like too much of an impatient pain in the butt, but this has really been bugging me lately.
How come SS & Eclipse aren't releasing subs for episodes 3 & 4 for Clannad After Story in widescreen? Episode 3 has been out for almost 2 weeks now in widescreen, yet they haven't subbed it yet.
How difficult is it for them just to take the exact same subtitles they had before on the 4:3 episodes and stick them on the 16:9 version? Are they too stressed out? It seems they are releasing the recent episodes in 4:3 format quite promptly, though. :twitch: Does that mean that they simply cannot be bothered to sub and release the episodes in widescreen? :eyebrow:
Although most people hurry up and see the 4:3 episodes, there are some of us who are patient to wait for 16:9 episodes. Why keep us waiting any more than is necessary? If I could contact Eclipse about this, I would, but I don't know how.

I doubt they use random RAWs from torrents and what not.
They'd have to wait for their RAW provider to give em the widescreen version and then for their encoder to hand out the cleaned up encode.
Eclipse usually have several projects going at once, and they might have greater priority as well.

Hi, ppl! I have a small but very important for me question.
Comparing Clannad AS with Clannad I found that it seems to me that faces of characters differ in... um... aspect ratio ;) They're stretched vertically more in AS. Just compare openings of Clannad-1 and Clannad-2. I've checked TV-raws, DVD-rips, both 4x3 and widescreen versions... This subtle difference really pisses me off.
Is it true, that KyoAni had changed character design a bit?
Any comments are appreciated.

About Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa...
According to a press release from Funimation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funimation) and the SPJA (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=SPJA&action=edit&redlink=1), the first official screening was shown at the 2006 Anime Expo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime_Expo) on Monday, July 3 at noon.
The session was presented by Seiji Mizushima (the original director), Mike McFarland (English voice director and voice of Lieutenant Havoc) and voice actor Vic Mignogna.
Romi Paku (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romi_Paku) was also supposed to attend but she did not because she (a Korean national) did not have a valid visa.
From Wiki.
I stand corrected. A look at her bio (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%9C%B4%E3%83%AD%E7%BE%8E) in the Japanese wiki reveals she's a zainichi korean. I was mislead by the info of her bio in the English wiki page which states she's Japanese, and that she was born in Tokyo.

We don't know. We can only guess based on what those that have played the game and watched the movie tell us.
That and from past experiance with KyoAni versions of Key products (AIR and Kanon), plus what they have shown so far in CLANNAD and CLANNAD: After Story.
And that they have we think ten episodes left to air.

Okay, guys. Please put all your spoilers on hold for a moment. I wasn't sure where to post this, so I first posted this in the Clannad - Spoilers and Speculation (for experienced Clannad gamers only) Thread.
I only watched the first season of Clannad, but I really want to see more of Tomoyo. If any of you guys have watched the first season, played both visual novels, as well as read some of the manga, then I was hoping you could point me in the right direction. I want to know what I should watch, read, or play now so that I can see Tomoyo's story.
But please keep all spoilers to a minimum. I'm already stuck with this bitter taste in my mouth since I read in Wikipedia that in the 2nd half of the Clannad VN, some people actually died. My memory's still a bit fuzzy about who the victims actually were, so I would like to keep it that way.
Anyway, if this post is in the wrong thread then please tell me. I wanted to direct this question at members who would have experience on most of the story.
So far, I know of the Clannad and Tomoyo After - What A Wonderful Life visual novels, and Tomoyo After - Dear Shining Memories and Clannad: Tomoyo Dearest mangas. Is there any other media (mangas, short stories, anime, etc, etc) that explore the Tomoya-Tomoyo relationship?
Also, about the visual novels, I want the full package, so what all will I need? I heard the VN was translated already, but then I read something about voice patches. Are these patches there to add voices to the game, which before didn't exist? And, about the voices, are they played by the same voice actors as the anime? How about the character design? I get a little annoyed when the characters look different or have different voices, because then they wouldn't be the same characters I know from the anime.
Basically I want to know what I should watch/read/play first to see Tomoyo's story and minimise any feelings of disappointment (for example, having no clue what the hell is going on since I didn't play this or read that). Thanks in advance for any advice you guys have.
Clannad - Tomoyo's route and Tomoyo After. Also you can read TA manga - it's an alternative variant of the TA story.
As for VN's - only Clannad is translated now. Vocie patch ? Yes, you can grab an orignial version and add there voices. KyoAni saved original design of characters, but in TA design is different.
Simple.
No matter which walkthrough I try (and I've tried those I could find here...) I can't seem to get anything but Misae's bad ending.....and I don't want to go on without finishing it because I'm stubborn.
I don't know where and what I'm doing wrong and I've followed the *important ones closely... Help please *puppy-super-mega-eyes-beam*
hint: Don't follow the walkthroughs, and just follow your instincts.
hint 2: Watch the corresponding anime episode :p
supiku, you are playing this route first (and haven't played others yet), isn't it ?
yes first route and umm how would I know which episode to watch...i don't want to spoil anything by watching something else...
Oh, you mean you haven't reached that point in the anime? I thought you had, in that case don't bother skipping episodes. My suggestion would be to go by trial and error. The clue part is when you are complimenting her 3 good points. You will get a very distinct reaction from her when you get it right.
oh, so that's where the problem is.
I didn't know what 'serious' meant in the walkthrough so I kept choosing wrong....
Thanks!
hmm I didn't really like hers though.....

Does anyone know the name of the song that plays during most of the Preview segments of the anime? Or what CD it's on?
It's a bit changed version of Toki wo Kizamu Uta -off Vocal Ver. from CLANNAD After Story OP ED Single.

It's a bit changed version of Toki wo Kizamu Uta -off Vocal Ver. from CLANNAD After Story OP ED Single. Is that the closest version available of the arrangement that plays during the Preview segment? Or is that particular arrangement not available anywhere?
EDIT: I found what I was looking for. "Mag Mell Off-vocal ver" from Disc 3 of the OST. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, though, Littm.

And I would like to ask a question....
What is the name of the insert song in episode 18's end (when Tomoya was help Nagisa get to the sickbay after getting hit by as tennis ball in the thigh)?
I've watched the first 12 episodes so far, my question is whether the rest of them are just as sad and if it gets sadder in the after-story.
after story is much sadder, but there are some great highs in there too. I think with key's games, they try to create this huge emotional fluctuation to make you cry. I mean even during the good times you'll probably have tears rolling down your face. But yea if your on episode 12, its only going to get sadder, but at least you can hope that the end will be a happy one
Hi, I have a question.
Can someone list all the episode that has Tomoyo in it?
ThankYou!!!!

Uh... practically every episode in the first season, and all the episodes in the second before Nagisa graduates
Oo..Really. I don't remember Tomoyo being in all episodes but Okay.
Thanks.
There are a few where she is not included, I think episode 21 or 22 and one or two from Fuuko's arc (13?) plus another couple from Kotomi's arc. Sorry but I really can't count them right now, watching the final episode from season 1.
Does anyone know if After Story will follow the same format as S1 -- 22 main eps and 2 extras?
Right now that does seem to be the plan. Episode 23 will be an "Extra," entitled "What Happened One Year Ago." Episode 24 has been rumored to be an OVA, another Extra, or a summary episode, but I don't think anything has been officially announced. But, yes, 22 main story episodes and two "extras" is what is going to happen.
To clarify, is the Clannad setting - or the others by Key - considered to be a range of equally-canon parallel universes?
For example, in the likes of Fate/Stay Night, the various story routes are considered to take place in alternate, yet equally valid, timelines.
(Indeed, one of the five True Magics in that setting is Kaleidoscope, the ability to walk between worlds, and use multi-dimensional aspects to given items and powers and stuff.)
To go back here, are the timelines shown in the game, and the follow-up stories in two particular cases (After Story and Tomoyo After) equally canon, or does After Story somehow trump the others in terms of in-setting importance?
After Story is part of the original game Clannad, thus it takes place in the same universe...so to speak.
Tomoyo After is an entirely seperate game based on Clannad. It could be looked at as a possible outcome, though to my understanding it does not quite follow through from the Tomoyo route/arc in Clannad. So alternate universe story label could be applied.
As for the othe Key games...well at least in KyoAni's adaptations, Kanon seems to flow into both AIR and Clannad to a minor extent. At least three of the Kanon main girls were presented as classmates in AIR. And the infamous Jammu was presented in Clannad, thus another connection.
Those are KyoAni original insertions though, so in KEY cannon there is no information towards or against their realms meeting in crossroads.

Maybe this has been asked before, but I've heard people say that at the end of ep. 21 when Ushio dies Tomoya dies shortly thereafter, hence why he collapses. Is this confirmed? Or is it just an interpretation?
It's an interpretation, backed by Tomoya's entrance into the Illusionary World shortly thereafter and by some other things, such as the rumors(?) that the original script called for the game to end upon Tomoya's death.
If you want to say he was just spirited away there instead, there's not much to argue against that in the game or the anime, but it's my personal belief (and many others) that Tomoya dies shortly after Ushio. How we'll never know (not Key's style to spell out such things), but suicide seems likely.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Well, if Tomoya did die, I've heard some people say that it looked like he was becoming sick over the course of ep. 21. I myself didn't notice it, but I won't rule it out (not at least until I rewatch it). Also, he may have died of grief, or quite possibly a combination of both.
Well, life, death, or spirited away, it doesn't matter to me, so long as we got the final outcome. This was a great show BTW, and I'll try to remember to post my thoughts on it on another thread.

Tomoya most likely does not suicide since in the anime, it is shown that he just collapsed after shouting for Nagisa to save Ushio. Most likely, he just died of grief since i don't think he can handle 2 of his most important persons in his life dying.
Who needs suicide when you can die from exposure by just doing nothing.

every episode when Tomyoa completes someones happiness an orb(s) would appear . Unlike the game they weren't appearing in proper order (as some appeared later and some appeared when stories were not done and 3 stories were not shown in the anime)
They show them first when we see Komura, Yukine, Misae, Tomoya and his father. In the game they apear after each route is completed as 13 are needed for the end. The title menu shows each one as they are collected.
As for not seeing tjem in the Opening? which one they show them in both to my knowledge.
i'm a bit confused with the ending... is it an alternate reality or just Tomoya dreaming or is it that his wish has been granted by the light orbs
and what's with the last scene where Ushio is sleeping or unconscious under the tree where Fuko discovers her
It is not an alternate reality. See, in the game, you have to beat it several times in order to achieve the game's true end (ie. happy end) by granting happiness to various individuals, which then will accumulate and allow Tomoya to turn back time where he, Nagisa and Ushio would survive and become one big happy family. That is canon.
As for the final scene, its really up to the player to interpret what it means.

Just to be clear its not really a 'turn back time" situation because that would make the fuko ending completely bonkers, its more of multiple worlds coming together, and unifiying the happiness in those worlds to allow tomoya the chance to right things, and live his life with his family and his home, with heavy emphasis to his family and home. I consider home, the physical and metaphysical to be a part of any complete family which then ties into the overall theme of family but that part is up to individual observations.

True, heh.
I'm playing the game and I need help with Fuuko's story. I know that you can spend one light orb to grant Fuuko a wish, but I played Fuuko's path (I already have 3 light orbs) but I wasn't given the choice to grant her any wish. I was given the choice to kiss her/stay like this, and I tried thm both but nothing happend regarding a light orb and I still have 3. How do I grant her wish?
Hmm... well you heard it a little wrong. In summary, that using a light orb thing is not really during Fuuko's arc, but during Nagisa's or Koumura's, so don't worry.
Thank you very much for your fast reply Proto. It seems I understood wrong. ^_^U

Actually, it's an alternate reality. In the game, you (as Tomoya) need to see every alternate reality (CLANNAD's different story arcs) to advance towards CLANNAD's After Story. It's not really a "turn back time" because everything is already destined to happen. The idea is Tomoya "felt" the incidents in the other world because "thoughts" reverberate through dimensions as explained by Kotomi. To give you a better idea "Emotions surpasses/travels through time and space."
The game dwells with alternate universe and Kotomi's Arc has the connection to that idea. So in short, you played the game and you made a BAD END. That bad end you've just experienced in the game is actually reality.
As for the Dating Sim, CLANNAD==>AFTER STORY isn't really labeled like that. Most dating sim games end with getting a girlfriend and ending with that. CLANNAD continues forward up to the whole story of the person's life, be it BAD END or GOOD END.
You can also say, the book is already finished, the only thing to do is unfold the story/stories or add more stories, that's what CLANNAD is (for me if you mind, because that is my theory).

Well the dating sim aspect is there and it plays a fairly substantial part of the game on the school side, no? You do date most of the girls in this game after all.
Except the fact that you do also interact and take routes with characters you don't date at all.
Furthermore, Dating Sim refer to the type of game that doesn't give you almost any story, and solely relies on a real "dating simulation" where you have several choices to raise your "point meter" in order to hook with X or Y girl (as such, the prime goal is to please a girl, with lots of possible actions to lead to gain "points").
That is absolutely not the same as a galge visual novel. Even though you end up with a girl in such kind of game, the predominant aspect is the narration, plot and backstory. You do no do things to hook a girl, but getting in the said route will lead to the romance (as such, you end up with choices that lead you to be closer to a certain girl, and ONLY after a certain point, you are in her route, and you don't have to do anything, and over time, the romance is blooming).

Not really. After Story is about Nagisa, and that is it. You can argue that After Story is more visual novel than dating, but the rest of the segments in Clannad is very much about dating, as well.

I am not sure if everyone would define it in this way as you do. Even in Japan, the definition is nowhere near as restricted as yours.
Clannad on Getchu is categorized as:
アドベンチャー、学園、恋愛、純愛 (Adventure, school, romance, pure love), which are categories that appear on most dating sims/visual novels. It does not specifically state that this is a visual novel and that is a dating sim. The fact is, its a bit of dating and a bit of visual novel, but whichever side you wish to lean on, its completely up to you.
Some of the definitions are reinforced by fans on the western side of the pacific, with no mirroring Japanese counterpart.
Although Tomoyo After would be a true visual novel. After all, there is no choice.

The term used for dating sim is "ren'ai" (恋愛) which is really used for what is to be: a simulation (example: magical date).
By no mean you use "dating sim" for games you simply read and make a mere choice here and there, in waiting to see what is going next.
People really focalize too much on the "dating" aspect (which makes it even less true when you pull VN that involve non romance route), despite the important difference is "novel" and "simulation".
See Kj1980's post about these (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=500391#post500391) and the wikipedia articles for both Visual Novel/ADV games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_novel) and Dating Sim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dating_sim).
Although Tomoyo After would be a true visual novel. After all, there is no choice. That is again another misconception. Visual Novels may or may not have choices (and funnily enough, there IS choice in TA, but not for the best reasons). The thing is that visual novel in japan are seen as a "story that YOU are the hero and you select your path". Which is arguably nowhere close to dating sim, as you are gunning for a girl from the very start and it will just dwells into the possible outcome (or not).

I don't really want to argue more on this but you can see the difference here
Dating Simulation games are more of a statistical game while CLANNAD is an Adventure Game (Choose your own adventure game) and not really a statistical game. The word Simulation is the key word here and CLANNAD isn't a simulation. Just like Klashikari said. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dating_sim)
You're probably mixing Renai games (Japanese term) with Dating Simulation (English term).
Renai Games are games where you will search and get introduced to a character,
you can also say it's a personal imaginative experience with love (love-making simulation in short)
where the player builds up his character.
In a nutcase (short term), the point of the game is love-making.
In long term, it's a game where you will make a character fall in love with you by means of elements.
Although, there are Renai games that aren't always defined like that.
基本的には男性プレイヤー向けの製品と女性プレイヤー向けの製品は明確に区別されるが、
「男女兼用恋愛ゲーム」という、ひとつのソフトで両方楽しめるゲームも存在する。
By basics, it's intended players are males OR females but
there are also games where both parties (male and female) will enjoy it.
Not every Renai games are Dating Simulation, that's our point. Although, you can say that Dating Simulation is a sub-genre of Renai games, CLANNAD is a Visual Novel (Choose your Adventure) game which is also a sub-genre of Renai games. I hope that clears some things.
And that is the problem, because the western side always use definition erratically (such like hentai etc). The term used for dating sim is "ren'ai" (恋愛) which is really used for what is to be: a simulation (example: magical date).
You do understand that Getchu is the largest Japanese PC-game retailer on the web, yes? And that is how they categorize Clannad? A ren'ai game?
Link: http://www.getchu.com/soft.phtml?id=502245
Nobody define dating sims as 恋愛シミュレーションゲーム anymore, just as nobody use the word 'gay' to mean 'happy'. And definitely nobody will pull out that whole wikipedia definition when I go shopping for a particular ren'ai game. If I ask for ren'ai games, I would be pointed to a shelf with games like Tokimeki Memorial and Clannad in the same section.
I guessed that some of you would go through miles to define that term. But, if my Japanese acquaintances don't give a rats bottom, retailers don't give a rats bottom, and that the game companies don't give a rats bottom, I quite frankly don't see why I should give a rat's bottom about the strict use of the definition myself.
So you know, don't tire yourself doing so, its not going to help with the shopping.

You do understand that Getchu is the largest Japanese PC-game retailer on the web, yes? And that is how they categorize Clannad? A ren'ai game? And so? You use some weird assumption that Getchu is the holy truth. Not like I don't use that site myself either heh.
And I still don't see how it is relevant to expect the classification of a game being really representative of the use of words, especially when it is basically not the case. You say yourself that it is not how we define dating sim anymore, with "ren'ai". Sure, let's say so, then? It doesn't exactly confirm either the nature of dating sim either you see. And let's imagine again that it is now how japanese translate ADV into this, it is certainly messing up with the western use of dating sim (which would be a plain and dumb "sim" game with romance in there, totally not the same thing as a plain visual novel with choices etc).
Anyway, the point is, if we don't define the said games under strict restrictions, I don't see why any of you would need to tire yourselves doing so, especially in a session (here) that I consider to be nothing more than a casual conversation. The point was to avoid misunderstanding and misconception of the already messed up western side you see. You probably don't care, but I feel correcting a term wouldn't be to the detriment of the readers though, so feel free to don't care about it, but I believe it was still interesting to touch this part, which is as messed up as misused words such like hentai, ecchi and otaku by the western side.
And so? You use some weird assumption that Getchu is the holy truth. Not like I don't use that site myself either heh.
Sure, its not the holy truth, but if every Japanese retailer I been to does the same thing in categorizing such games, then... are you to say that they are wrong?
Anyway, the point is, making the definitions in detail (as you did) will not help with the shopping. It certainly won't help me, as I'd imagine some of the clerks in my favorite joins would give me a blank stare on the face, with an equivalent Japanese expression of wtf? :heh:

Anyway, we were just pointing out (discussing) the difference between Dating Sim to other Ren'Ai games which is CLANNAD. If you think CLANNAD is a dating sim, sure, we won't force you to think otherwise. Ren'Ai have some elements of a dating sim but at the same time it's also completely devoid of it. Ren'ai doesn't literally translate to "Dating Sim", Dating Sim is just a subgenre of Renai. Visual Novel which is Planterian, CLANNAD, Tomoyo After is also a subgenre of Renai. You can also say that Turn Based games are not the same as Real Time Strategy games yet both of them are STRATEGY games. CLANNAD is a RENAI game, classified as VisualNovel, it's story based, not statistical based where the word Simulation lands. :heh:
Renai games are Dating-Sim but not all Renai games are Dating-Sim, you don't classify them as one. Again, we're pointing out misconceptions, even if you think that's TRIVIAL to you, it is not to others.
Agreed with Klashikari and dgreater1 so far.
Although Tak's point cannot be dismissed altogether. The media appearance of CLANNAD did not help in this case, while showing all 5 main girls as if they were the main idea/core of this story.
I can understand though that it helps sell CLANNAD in the first place.

Just curious, what did we get for TA's genre in getchu?
Is there any game that Getchu classify as Visual Novel?
If I ask for ren'ai games, I would be pointed to a shelf with games like Tokimeki Memorial and Clannad in the same section.
Agreed. Refer to my points before that CLANNAD (at first) might have tried to sell itself via the 5 main girls, and that first impression might have formed a general opinion.
And there's nothing wrong with that.
Just like the fact that Kanon included ero-material in its first release, and up until now my acquintances still see it as an Eroge. Not to argue beside, well there is more to that.
Not quite sure I understand so,
Let's see..
In a dating sim we get this so called flag.
As we achieve flags, we get a certain relationship level with (a) girl(maybe more), leading through different ending(s).
As far as I recall, CLANNAD's flags is merely an opener to routes/stories. Once you go down a route, there is no way to decrease your relationship with a certain [target].
This could be perceived differently though, but in my PoV at least, the choices available in CLANNAD (though I don't recall perfectly) are not to deepen this relationship.
To even further contradict myself, there is some choices and Kyou and Tomoyo routes that indeed felt like a dating sim flags...
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
so Klashikari, are we on the same page here?

Quite not, the mechanic is simply not the same.
In Dating Sim, the gameplay is comparable to what you can guess from its name: you actually select a girl and depending of your actions, you gain or loses affection (it is purely a stats system).
In a usual romance focused Visual Novel, you are actually choosing the characters actions, and some of them are the so called "flags" that allow you to enter in the said girl (or character) route. Past a point, you are in her route and depending of the VN, the romance is built immediately or way afterwards.
The difference stems on the fact that you are actually choosing the action depending of the said situation, while in a Dating Sim, you are purely trying to please the said girl to hook with.
Of course, in these kind of VN, you do choose the girl you are aiming for, but most of the time, the actions taken are here to "help" or "advence" in the plot, not trying to hook with the said girl. Logically, you have NOTHING to do so the said girl fall in love with the protagonist.
For example: in clannad, there is a 2 chances-only flag for Kotomi (meeting her in the library), which is purely not related to gain affection or whatsoever. In a dating sim however, you would actually try actions that would raise your love meter, that is.
That is to say, I'm not denying the fact that some VN are really close to dating sim when you are actually making some "datin sim"-like choices to get in a girl route. That is actually the "non dating sim" ren'ai that Dgreater1 was referring to.
I see. I remember Tokimeki now.
From my PoV, the choices available in CLANNAD just did not strike me as something that is pleasing/appealing to your [aim/target].
A good example you raised here. We consider the dating sim's flag as stats (in my prev post I refer to this as relationship level). Can't seem to find the right words for CLANNAD's flags.
Sort of like Clannad is a Visual Novel disguised to look like a dating sim for sales, yet is not a dating sim at all.
Sort of like how Kanon has ero-material to disguise it is a plot based visual novel to get more sales.

A lot of the better games out there (Chaos;HEAd, anything Type-Moon makes, this) disguise themselves as dating sims in order to sell copies.
It's just something they have to do to please the otaku market, though I'd love to see an unabashed "THIS IS NOT A DATING GAME" visual novel actually do really well.

Whats the reason for showing a sad ending then a happy ending?Just to give you an idea how things would be with or without Nagisa?

The good end would have never happened without the bad end. The series hinted from a good while about the supernatural element and how the "bad end" started everything.
See the Clannad ending (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=79243) thread.

To further this statement, the bad end coincides with the good end. It's not really so much that they're showing you how it would have went, but rather how miracles happen. In the recap episode, Tomoya said how he felt that all the tragic events happened long ago and this kind of points to how he achieved his happiness. Tomoya's willingness to help others gave him the opportunity to change his fate as long as he didn't regret meeting Nagisa, at least this is how I view things.

On Getchu, you are not going to find a category that says 'visual novel'. In fact, it is a term that is hardly used these days. While we in the forum may still apply the term casually, the retailers in Japan don't.
As for TA, interestingly enough, it is not categorized, but this is probably due to the fact that the game is no longer produced.

Out of curiosity, have episodes 23 and 24 of Clannad After Story ever been broadcast in widescreen? It's been nearly half a month since the widescreen version ended its run, and I haven't seen any fansubs pop up for them yet.

I don't think those torrents have been released yet since I'm waiting for it as well. The last WS Clannad: After Story was episode 22 I believe.

Umm. Just a question about the game...
How do you unlock After Story?
I have completed all the routes, in the order Misae > Tomoyo > Yukine > Ryou > Kyou > Kappei > Mei & Youhei > Kotomi > Fuuko > Koumura > Nagisa. But, only 6 lights are appearing in my menu screen and After Story isn't unlocked. So, I'm hoping I didn't miss anything because I already redid Ryou, Kyou, Fuuko, Koumura and Nagisa and I don't really want to waste my time redoing everything else. Any idea why this happens?

Did you ever get Misae's light?

I did her route as my first one. But I'm not sure if I got it...? Thanks, I might try again.

Well, you get it during Tomoyo's arc.

Yes, I kinda already mentioned my first two routes were Misae > Tomoyo. I'm fully aware that I lose one light praying for Fuuko... somewhere along the way... but I'm not sure where the other one went. I suspect Kotomi, since when I retried Tomoyo's route, I didn't have Koumura kicking Sunohara at first. I retried Koumura's route, went to Misae's route again, and Tomoyo's route after that, and I found that Koumura kicked Sunohara back this time, giving me the combo of 64 HITS. That was really amusing, bytheway. Am I supposed to have Kotomi bashing Sunohara with a violin or something?

No, that's the highest you can get.
I'm having the same problem. I didn't finish Nagisa's route yet, but I understood that I should already have 7 light orbs anyway (I already made a wish for Fuko), but I have only 6. The one I'm missing is Misae's. I did Misae's route immediately before Tomoyo's, but I didn't get her light, so I did Komura's route, and the re-finished Misae's route from a save I had near the end, and finally I loaded a save I had made at the very start of May 11 in Tomoyo's route. This time I got the 64 hit combo, but I didn't get Misae's light anyway. What should I do to get her light? I'm completely lost at what to do.

The general problem is that, in your tomoyo's route, you didn't take Misae's flag.
Basically, you HAVE to meet Misae all the time, except the last one, otherwise you won't have that event.
Thanks, now I finally got the 7th light orb =D.

So, to get this straight...
I do Koumura, then Misae, then Tomoyo, talking whenever we meet, but declining to come again when in her room. Is that right?
I got the 64 hit combo, and I also got... the event. At least, I think you're talking about the event where Misae wants to find her cat. Right...?
I'll go try again, thanks!
Edit : Darn, it didn't work. D: I guess I'll just redo everything from scratch D:

Sorry about the confusion; Sidestep got it right. Someone already answered me though outside of the thread, but thanks for the help!
Is Clannad a continuation of Kanon or are the characters reused?
Sidestep

No to both.
Is Clannad a continuation of Kanon or are the characters reused?
While a lot of characters in Kanon and Clannad share numerous similarities, they do not belong to the same fictional universe.

Although it is obvious that Yukine and Sayuri are long lost sisters.
Ahaha

In that case, you can easily relate Shiori to Nagisa, Ayu to Fuuko, Mai to Kotomi and with a bit of tweaking, you can even relate Makoto to Kyou.
This leaves Tomoyo & Nayuki the only original characters (whom I just happen to like much more than the rest of the cast)

I once heard that Tomoyo and Kotomi are like two halves of Mai... so really, Nayuki is the only original character.

I personally don't know how you, or the person who informed you came to that conclusion, because I just cannot see the resemblance except for their abilities to dish out a lot of physical damage. Then again, thats Kyou's specialty, too.
And Nayuki's originality is pretty ironic, because she was a very normal girl in Kanon, so normal in fact that we probably won't notice her existence much if she was a real person. Except, in the world of Kanon, where every cast surrounding her had some sort of special thing going on, her normality actually stood out...

Well I finised CLANNAD after dropping midway in the first season years a go...Loved it...anyways..eh..
To be honest I couldn't really make out how Fuko fits in all of this.It seemed she took a lot of air time of the ainime in both start(S1) and end(s2).I'm specially bothered by her appearance in AfterStory's ending but I couldn't figure out a reason as to why...mind you I do kinda understand the whole multi-verse thing and stuff(been reading up on it).But I don't why Fuko was so important as she seems to be.
Its been bugging me since I feel like I'm missing part of the "Final Message"/Story.

The last scene, don't think about it too much. It's in the original script and it's there for the sake of just being... ummm... there...? You can probably try to connect some supernatural things that's connected to her but as for me, I just saw the final scene as "Okay, she's at the end scene. Cool." Actually, I don't see any good reason for her to be there except for the fact the she's labeled as a "weird and random person" :heh:
As for the final message? I just took it as "The story doesn't end here"
Which reminds me, if you continue the story about the world where Ushio then afterwards, Tomoya dies, the one who'll take the ULTIMATE BLOW would be Akio and Sanae, and probably Tomoya's dad as well. It'd be interesting to see how it'd continue but I definitely don't want to see some tragedy after some tragedy, just imagining it already makes me sad.
Okay so.. Me and my friend were wondering about the After Story OP. At the late end you can see a scene of Ryou crying, but even though my friend just watched the whole season on a one run, he couldn't see that certain scene. We can't remember if the scene is from season 1, so could anyone refresh our memory :) ?
( And if it's from Season 1.. why is there scene from S1 in S2 OP... )

To answer your question frankly, it was because the plot was premeditated considering the anime is based off a game (a visual novel.) Basically, if you played the game then the plot is of no surprise to you. I myself have yet to play the game and I watched Clannad simply because of the girls at first and then realized how amazing the whole series was.
Since the plot was already laid out (with some adjustments of course for the anime,) the OP is able to use some foreshadowing techniques and show us what's going to happen without really realizing it until we actually come to the specific scene. Ryou's crying probably came from the moment Kyou tried to stop Tomoya from helping Nagisa after she gets hit by the tennis ball. The background is just there for the OP ;)
I think that specific scene comes from the Kappei route in the game though.

You're probably right :heh: As I've said, I've yet to play the game so I don't know if there are scenes in the OP that are only from the game ;)
There is one more episode (OVA) for Kyou coming out, so maybe it is in there.
... the Kappei route? AND the Fujibayashi sister route? In 20 minutes?
... I would want to see that. :p
