Since the Clannad forum is limited (only Mods and Admin can create new threads), this thread serves as a way to request a new thread to be created.
Please post here if you wish to request a new Clannad thread. Please bear in mind that we will only accept reasonable requests, we wish to maintain the focus within the forum and cut down on the noise (so no pointless threads cluttering up the place).
Don't forget that you may still post in existing threads as usual, the only restriction is that you may not create new threads within this particular forum.
Should the Clannad Translation Project (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=42612) thread be included in this forum? Or does it still fall under the Games section?

Perhaps a 'favourite moments of CLANNAD' thread? But we'd probably have to wait for a few more episodes before doing so. Starting a thread with only two or three replies are not really worth it for the mods.

err... considering how new the series is (and as some side characters aren't even introduced yet), it is really to soon to do so.
Usually, they are done during mid series, or when the show has ended.

Not that I'm saying we should implement it now (even I think it's too early in the series for anything like that), but maybe we can implement it somewhat earlier than a "Favourite (all) Characters" thread?

As far as I'm concerned, it's a no.
Lucky Star was way different than Clannad and making something related to the main characters was absolutely justified since, from the very beginning, it was clear who they were. But here? Unlike LS, This is a plot oriented tale, hence I wouldn't go as far as introducing "main characters" discussions or poll. Besides, at this point of time (episode 2), who are the main characters? Anime virgins cannot know, and must not know before the anime says it is time.
I'm afraid we'll follow the model of "Kanon" instead. So expect an all chars favourite poll later in the series (in the middle if it's 24-26 episodes, at the end if it's 12-13).

In all seriousness though - there is little reason for a favorite character poll when we have barely had a taste of some characters and their personalities. For the moment it doesn't boil down to much more than first impressions with characters like Tomoyo / Fuko / Kotomi/Ryou/whatever. Since it is pretty much a given this is going to be 24 episodes, i am envisioning two character polls - one at the middle (around ep12-13), and one when the series ends.

As someone who played through Kyou's scenario, I already get that "tsuntsun" and "deredere" feeling right off the bat, the moment she throws her various types of dictionaries at Tomoya, and then blushing and trying to defend herself everytime Tomoya catches her making a gaffe.
I would like to request a poll thread dedicated to Kyou, specifically: Is Kyou a tsundere? This is clearly a grave matter that concerns us all. :p

I think that a character thread should be started soon as well. It seems the character discussions have taken over most of the episode discussions lately.
Sounds good enough to me. Character discussion threads for Tomoya, Nagisa, Kyou and Tomoyo will be created sometime later today. I assume there is no need for other character discussion threads, at least not in this point of time.

In case you are, you can PM me or Skyfall or even the cool Pelli with those pics pertinent to those existing threads for each character, and they will be added.
The whole tsundere discussion is getting out of hand over in the Kyou character discussion thread. I hereby request relief of the thread by creating a thread solely dedicated to a tsundere discussion. We only just saw episode 3 ffs :(

I disagree, since we're talking about the application of tsundere upon the character Kyou.
However, I admit that things are getting out of hand.
I support the creation of a new thread for the discussion of Kyou's qualifications as a Tsundere. The "Guess the Gender of the Utawarerumono Twins" thread comes to mind here. A thread that has grown into a monstrosity on the Utawarerumono Subforum, dwarfed only the Image Thread (although at the rate it is still growing, it may actually overtake the Image Thread in time).
While the discussion of whether Kyou is a Tsundere or not is valid character discussion, I fear this single issue threatens to over-dominate other valid topics of discussion.

I would say - "working as intended" :) I was hoping for the "is Kyou a tsundere" discussion to move to her thread once it was created, thus my expectations have been met :) It might look like the discussion is taking over the thread, but i largely attribute it to the fact there is not much else to talk about for the moment. Kyou's discussion thread seems like the first place where to discuss aspects of her personality. The discussion seems to be going in circles anyway, so i would say there is no real need for a new thread "is Kyou a tsundere", when people can't even agree to what a "tsundere" really is in the first place. (Looking at the discussion i think we would rather need a thread where to discuss what a tsundere is) :heh:

Yes, there is, but that would firstly imply anyone entering an argument in the kyou-thread would have read it in in order to avoid repeating arguments, and secondly that noone would be able to reiterate his/her own opinion again in a fresh, brand new thread...
Alas, there really is not much more to discuss about her anyway, I'll give you that much. I just hope that should Kyou's character go beyond that trait and actually begin to be somewhat more interesting, the discussion does not revolve back to that point all over again.

Not to sure were to put this. But there isn't a video quality thread in the Clannad subforum like there is in Gundam 00. So posting it here :)
Quite happy the widescreen version is released. Did some comparisons. From the looks of it the 4:3 versions have somewhat more vibrant colors than the widescreen version :( Very notable in the intro. But less notable in the episode itself. Now i'm wondering if it's the encoding or the raw. Since the widescreen version is around the same size as the 4:3 version (170-175mb). Also notice the 4:3 version is slightly sharper, or my eyes are playing tricks on me :pNow that the widescreen version has been released, is there need of a video quality thread?

I was thinking that due to many questions being asked over and over again, that a FAQ thread be started up with some common answers to questions such as "What does CLANNAD actually mean?" and "Is this based on a game?" and "OMGZWTFBBQSAUCE... this is from Key, does that mean it's a h-game???"

I'm not in favour of creating such threads. The only reason it exists in the Gundam forum is because that forum isn't limited. If another Mod thinks it's justified here, fair enough but in practice such threads become more of a complants thread than anything.
I agree with xris on this matter - there is little to be gained from such a thread. We all know the regular version cut out some parts of the image ... what would we do in such a thread besides going "orz, this version is so much better then the cut down one!". There is nothing to discuss besides praising one and/or complaining about the other.

He's only a serious chara in Kyou's route.
Fuuko route - Nagisa's other love interest, and comedy relief
Tomoyo - Comedy relief
Kyou - The voice of reason
Kotomi - Completely ignored by Kotomi so not important
But that reminds me, I have a doujin where he becomes the "Main" character in CLannad...

I completely agree. How can the biggest bugger in the show not get a thread to himself? I can even create a Sunohara fan club for it! (Sunohara in Kyou's route is suuuuuuper cool by the way)

I also think Ryou should get a thread. She has enough presence and screentime as many of the main characters, and I think that she will be developed nicely as a character as well.

I'd like to see a Ryou thread. She's my favorite character so far.
But I would understand if the thread isn't created. She has played a minor role so far, and judging from most of the Clannad artwork out there, it seems that she will not be one of the major characters. I haven't heard much talk about her amongst fans either. But, at any rate, that's my request. Thanks for listening.

I'm sure they'll get to you on the matter soon enough, but I might as well say it anyway since I asked the same question once.
Both Mentar and IRJustman, representatives of SS-Eclipse and TWH-Sprocket respectively, have said it would be preferable not to have this conversation in the first place, since it would only lead to a flame war. So I'd say let's respect their wishes, and not have this thread. It is also not strictly pertaining to CLANNAD in any case, anyway.

No. For a number of reasons (some of which Ascaloth has already mentioned) we have no interest in promoting such a "discussion", and this is the case for any fansub, not just Clannad.

I also believe it's about time since we have a fair accumulation of characters, but once again I'm not an expert on the title... so I'll let the expert decide. :) The thread will be one more incentive to come to this section of the forum during the month recess.

I will add further to what Ascaloth and Xris have said and suggest that if you REALLY want to talk about subs, please do so with us (all four groups in general) DIRECTLY.
For our (Sprocket/TWH) part, we DO listen. Whether we'll actually implement any suggestions is entirely a matter of discretion.
I will not presume to speak for SS or Eclipse on their effort. Though likewise, if you have questions or concerns regarding their effort, take it up with them. Again, whether they implement anything you suggest will entirely be a matter of discretion.

Like we stated in various case already, we usually create a poll thread around mid series then when the series ends.
CLANNAD was a bit early consisdering the cast was quite full quite early and so on. That said, after episode 24, freshly new poll thread will be indeed created for the occasion.
As for the other recent thread, I don't think the arc poll will be necessary as people would most likely put that in the overal impression thread. Furthermore, it is very unlikely it would be accurate considering that some arcs are obviously much longer, and entwined with others (Nagisa's, so to speak).

Relating both? I can't see how a discussing can involve both... Except talking about Tomoyo in general, which "should" be Tomoyo After.
In any case, the most recent point in the thing you want to talk about will take priority (hence, mentioning anything from TA should be in TA thread, because CLANNAD is somewhat a natural prerequisite to TA).
If you still have doubt, please PM me just in case.

Can we get a Character discussion thread for Yukine
While i am not against the thread, I am not sure if there is anything to discuss, considering that Yukine hasn't even had a full minute of a screentime up until now (which saddens me personally, as i would love to see more of her in the anime). If she happens to get some noteworthy appearance the thread will be created.
Is it possible to make a sticky regarding ep. 23 and 24 so that we don't continually have to say that these are on DVD only?
Edit: Apparently someone just told me that ep. 24 is the DVD only ep. I still think that a sticky should be made to clarify things.

But since it might be skipped altogether (which isn't very surprising) I guess your suggestion is quite pertinent.

The TV series runs for 23 episodes. The regular story ends with episode 22 (which airs 21st March), the 23rd episode (which airs next week on the 28th March) will be a special entitled "Summer Vacation Chapter".
There is a 24th episode but this is a DVD only episode, this will be released on the 16th July 2008 on the last (8th) DVD.
You can confirm this with sites such as ANN (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=7809), AniBD (http://anidb.net/a5101), Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clannad_%28visual_novel%29), and no doubt the Official Site (http://www.bs-i.co.jp/clannad/) (but I can't read Japanese so can't confirm).
Let's hope that now there is a sticky that people might take notice.

We usually try to wait about couple of weeks prior to creating the overall impression thread after a show comes to an end. Considering the final episode has aired less than a week ago, I think it is safe to say the thread wouldn't make its appearance for at least a few more days. This way the fans will have plenty of time to arrange their thoughts for an overall impression. :)

Some people were already giving opinions based strictly on "one season alone" basis, which, just like Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, isn't quite accurate.

Is the licensed thread a place to talk about dub actor speculation? If not, then a CLANNAD TV Dub Speculation thread would need to be made (which could be renamed to the "Dubbing of" thread when the dub cast list is finalized).

Actually, I thought about delaying a bit due to the circumstances (current and future) back in episode 12-13, and then I completely sidetracked this :heh:.
Since we are about to get episode 16, I wonder if waiting for the end of the series wouldn't be preferrable (especially that the changes will come soon, so the timing might be a bit awkward).

That would be only fine once her appearance is much more prone for discussion, instead of relying only on game material.
And even if we allow spoilers, I'm certainly not fond of them for the moment, as it seems most don't bother using proper tags (Tomoyo TA material was a nasty plague), so it is really way too early.

I've been googling for hours, but 99% of the webpages I've found that simply mention Tomoyo Dearest, are in Japanese.
There are also many people who seem to think that Clannad: Tomoyo Dearest and Tomoyo After - Dear Shining Memories are the same mangas. If you didn't know, Tomoyo Dearest only consists of 1 volume, while Tomoyo After has 4 volumes.

What this thread is not about: Moaning and b!tching about how crap the ending is or Raving and rambling about how great the ending is. There are other threads here for that.
What this thread is really about: As the title suggests, this thread will seek to do exactly what it says, that is to interpret and discuss about the surreal events concerning the Illusionary World that leads to the ending we see in episode 22 of After Story.
All speculation, theories and discussion welcome, and remember to please keep things civil.
Finally: Since this is a discussion of the ending, after all. SPOILERS ARE APLENTY! You have been warned.
Now to get the ball rolling. Here's my take on the ending. I'm not really the sort to lump my thinkings into long-winded essays as other talented users here are capable of doing at ease, so they'll all be in point form. Please bear with me. :cool:
- It is established that the Illusionary World (from hereon called IW) is a dimension adjacent to the one the characters reside in (from hereon called the ClannadVerse (CV)), as speculated by Kotomi's parents before their untimely demise. It is not bound by time and space, as travellers who come in are able to exit in a different time.
- This IW can only be accessed when one possess the right conditions.
- Yukine mentions of the Town legend of light orbs, which only appear when one attains a moment of happiness. Only a select few people are blessed to see and receive such orbs, and Tomoya is one of them (for reasons which will become apparent below).
- While Yukine makes first mention of the light orbs after Tomoya sees and receives one, they can also be seen during Fuuko's "class" with Sanae-san (series 1, episode 8), Kotomi receiving her teddy bear (series 1, episode 14), and Misae-san spending time with her cat (AS, episode 6), as well as Tomoya reconciling with his father (AS, episode 19).
- These light orbs then travel beyond the dimensional plane into IW, carrying the thoughts of happiness of these townspeople.
- The IW is somehow bound to Nagisa, while Yukine makes mention of light orbs existing long before everyone's time, so it can be speculated that this IW existed for time immemorial, granting miracles to other people, and thus is born the legend. (Makes sense as there wouldn't be a legend if no one told the story in the first place, no?)
From here on, I would like to refer to this decent interpretation (http://corey.blogbus.com/logs/30378051.html) by this Chinese blogger, I shall attempt to translate to my best into English:
Events not run "chronologically", as IW is not bound by time and space, but run in the order that they occur.
1. Akio runs to the big tree in the mystical open plain and makes a wish to save Nagisa. The Town grants him this miracle by using the light orbs within the IW to save her. But in turn, this binds her life to the town. In a way, the IW now "feeds off" from Nagisa's attachments towards the town, resulting in her fragile health.
2. Tomoya and Nagisa meet and fall in love. This causes Nagisa's attachment to shift from the Town towards Tomoya, as a result, the IW would "extract" the lifeforce from Nagisa in order to maintain its existence. (Before Akio made the contract, the IW had always been just a container for the light orbs. )
3. Nagisa dies, and Ushio inherits Nagisa's contract with the Town.
4. Ushio dies.
5. Due to her unique existence with the IW, and her subconscious will to save her mother (this is mostly speculated), Ushio is reborn in the IW and binds her will to it. Though she loses her memories in CV.
6. Tomoya, either through death (from grief, suicide?) or through a very strong will, also arrives in the IW, as a light orb (also losing his memories in CV).
7. Ushio sensed an orb that someone seems more sentient than the others, and thus creates a body for that orb (Tomoya/the Robot).
8. Both Ushio and the Robot begin their life in IW.
9. The Robot somehow remembers something, but can't exactly place what it is, and is compelled to want to take Ushio out of the IW. As Ushio's will integrates even more with the IW, winter arrives.
10. Ushio now remembers part of her memories in CV and her desire to save her mother.
11. Ushio tells the Robot (Tomoya) about the light orbs, and sends him back in time, back to when Tomoya first met Nagisa, in order to collect as many orbs as possible.
12. Tomoya returns to that point in CV, but loses his memories in IW. Ushio becomes one with the IW, collecting the orbs as Tomoya receives them in various alternate timelines.
13. In the various realities (as seen in the game, and in the DVD special episode 24, where Tomoya ends up with Tomoyo instead), Tomoya collects the various light orbs for every happiness he, or someone else he helps, attains.
14. Ushio in turns receives them, and "resets" the world to that point so that Tomoya may go and collect more. As there are more orbs, the IW regains its ability to sustain itself.
(Points 15-17 in the original refers to mechanics more relevant to the game players than the anime watchers, which I feel would be redundant, so I'll skip to point 18)
18. And finally, Tomoya enters the timeline we see in the anime, where he meets and marries Nagisa. Nagisa still dies in this timeline, but he still manages to collect a few more orbs before coming to CV Ushio's death.
19. As Tomoya now collected quite a lot of orbs, IW Ushio is now able to perform the miracle by sending Tomoya back to when CV Ushio is born, and with the power of the orbs, saves Nagisa's life again.
20. As history has been altered, the Ushio born in this CV is considered a different person than IW Ushio (though their souls are linked, think Tsubasa Chronicle for this one, i.e. same soul, different bodies).
21. Due to the family love created by the Okazakis, the IW is able to sustain itself, and CV Ushio no longer falls ill.
22. Her task completed, IW Ushio travels back to CV, where her soul "fuses" with CV Ushio, and she is found sleeping under the tree, where Fuuko (from her residual memory from previous timelines) manages to find and befriend her.
Phew, now that was long! Now feel free to speculate away, and come up with something better and less long-winded than this. :heh:
(The blogger even went so far as to speculate that the second Robot created by IW Ushio is actually Fuuko. But Fuuko's will to help her sister in CV was so strong she rejected Ushio's help. Ditto for Shima the cat. Though I think that's stretching things a bit far, IMHO. )
Another mention must be given to VRMN's excellent post (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2269802&postcount=152) in the episode 22 thread about the ending.
In a way, this is similar to Groundhog Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundhog_Day_(film)), or to use a more familiar analogy, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni), where the protagonists are given the chance to try and try again before they get things right.

I would think an earlier setup of the thread will be better, since people's thoughts about it will still be relatively fresh enough.
And when the thread for it is set up, will we be allowed to give in that thread an overall impression of both seasons, taken together? While there is an Impressions thread for the first season, there may be some of us (at least I would be one of them) who would prefer to take the entire CLANNAD narrative as a whole, instead of focusing on the second season by itself.
Not to mention the mandatory favorite character poll that usually comes along with it.

Hmm... I don't know, it'd be like saying in an Inuyasha poll that Kikyou and Kagome should share the same slot given that they have the same soul. It can be more than 20 choices, however, too many in the list of choices will have the poll appear grotesque. How about we try limit the choices to 30 options and draft a list accordingly.
As soon as a final list that can most of us agree on about the choices, we can go ahead and create the poll.
It might be useful to do something akin to what the Lucky Star board did, and do two kind of polls. One with just the character central to the after story, and another with the secondary arc characters. It might become less cluttered that way.
Hmm, what about some topics for recap episode, final thoughts (Overall Series Impressions & Total Series Rating) and favourite characters ? Isn't it above time already ?
What kind of things would you want to discuss in this recap ep thread? :p

Character poll should be created within few days (Ascaloth's post, minus Sugisaka) unless there is a consensus/debate over the characters selection.
However, please bear in mind extending over 20 options will be only as last resort as more than 10 is already atrocious (factoring the avatars which will be used for this poll), so breaking 20 is really something we should avoid. Also, please remember the last option will be used for "others".
