This thread is to be used for discussing the entire 12 episodes of School Days ... your thoughts about the show, overall impressions, speculation on the possible DVD only bonus episodes, etc., etc…

A few subjects you might want to ramble on about:
General impression of the series.
Opinions on the overall story, writing & plot devices.
Thoughts about the animation quality.
Will there be additional DVD only episodes and what will they contain.

How did the anime compare with the game?
Characters/Character Design
What the show meant to you.
What could the creators/animators/writers could have done better.

And so on.

The poll represents your total series rating. In other words, how you would rate all the episodes combined (1-10)? If you'd rather rate the whole series by technical/artistic merits, you can do so. An example:

Animation Quality: 1-10
Voice Actors: 1-10
Script: 1-10
Adaptation from Game: 1-10
Editing: 1-10

Average = Total Series Rating

Or a combination of the two. Or your general gut feeling.

I just cast the first vote, but I got it wrong...
I had wanted to put it 9/10, and it ended up 5/10......so please ignore it

Let me vote it separately:

Quality: 8/10
Seiyu: 9/10
Script: 9/10
Adaptation: 7/10
Editing: 10/10

Overally a great anime. I would rank it top 5 among the tv animes this year, and I will only put Lucky Star absolutely above it.

Just too ridiculous to take it seriously after a few eps. Mostly a waste of time other than the ending.

If you ask me, episode 11 kind of gave an illusion that everything would end well, while at the same time hinting at the insuing bloodfest.

That's why I think this is a damn good anime. I like the voices and story and the impact, but the music could have used some work.

I don't know why you feel that way about episode 11.

For me, after I watched episode 11, my first reaction was: "to my child", and Makoto will be killed by Sekai.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy - where to start :D

Firstly I think I should say how much I loved this series despite some clashing opinion (especially with the haters who think that it should have been made proper) – but this is all a matter of personal opinion and taste.

So what did I like about school days?

DRAMA!!! HIGHSCHOOL DRAMA!!!

I don’t think there is another word quite fitting for this series. Ever since I’ve heard about this series I have tried to dig up information on it while spoiling me at the same time but that was no biggie. I came to realize that this wasn’t any ordinary series where it followed a common run of the muck plot. No. What made this series special and eye catching to me in the first place was the awesome bad good ends from the game. And of course knowing how much of a bastard makoto was before hand also made me desperate to find out what happens in the series.

Enough background now and onto the series itself.
The story was just, well fantastic in my opinion. Everything played out perfectly to what I expected it to be and maybe even more seeing some of the events that came about. While it may not be to some peoples tastes I did think that the series was “working as intended” as it wasn’t meant to be a love story to begin with – more of an anti love story in fact.

The plot was whacky but I find it highly believable and realistic – well maybe except for the killing...and the threesome...and the “trance like state” from kotonoha – but on the whole I feel that it captured some essence of reality as we do get people like makoto these days (as much as I hate to admit to how much society has fallen but that is another story).

Well I guess I should make a breakdown of the characters.

Makoto –

Seriously, has anyone met such a jerk in real life? If you have better give me the address so I can go on a killing spree! As a character makoto fails at life. Some of the things he does are impossibly annoying an illogical given the situation. I mean perfect example would be his first date with kotonoha. JUST WHAT THE HELL IS THAT! I have said that there is a limit to stupidity but he just blows the limit through the roof. He should have looked up the definition of “date” before actually going on one. I mean what kind of guy puts themselves over their date? Even more so when the girl is a super hot babe/idol – you would normally do anything to please her going by normal logic but as well know makoto is a monkey.

The guy is not only indecisive but also f**king indecisive as we have come to know. He just doesn’t seem to have the brain power (lawl did I just say that?), I mean he doesn’t have any brains at all to think about his actions and consequences. I have to say that some of this responsibility (or a lot) hinged on sekai for the first half of the series but right after the frequent sex they were having we see that makoto is looking for variety. HAPPY YAROOOOOOOO!!

Like I said first had of the series is somewhat detached from the second half as far as the characters go. We see the heavily controlling sekai turn into mush later on in the series as she loses her leash around makoto’s neck. To be honest she had it coming to her but looking at the end even I am depressed at how things turned out. Back to makoto, well to start off with his was a wimp. No spine at all AND LOOK he still doesn’t have one! But that’s not the point. The thing is that makoto is a bastard who always acted like the pushover. Maybe he was still a virgin which caused him to think like all teens think at this age but he only does so in the weirdest way ever. He won’t ever show his true colours unlike taisuke yet I suspect that he is worse than his brain dead friend.

Being pushed around by sekai was what got this whole thing started. I was fine with sekai trying to play match making but what she did at the end of episode 1 was just “zomg I’m so going to see blood later on!” and hey here we have it :p
Makoto has always been bombarded with mixed feelings, which is natural considering that now sekai is going out some false vibes. Why the heck would she kiss him if she set them up in the first place? Incomes first bashing!

But this is the first half of the series where makoto has showed nothing more than being a jackass with a perverted monkey attitude towards kotonoha. The way he lusts after her body is just disgusting! Firstly he tries to kiss kotonoha on the lips on their second failure date and thinks it is weird that she runs away from him – sekai should just give him a f**king beating! :frustrated:

Next he grabs her chest while she gives into the “kiss” thinking that she will do her part and be a good girlfriend to him. WHAT THE FCK ARE YOU THINKING! Normal people won’t just grab someone by the chest without warning, and those who do are usually locked up in jail! Kotonoha seriously needs to reconsider her choice for makoto but meh that is how the story goes.

Well makoto after having sex with sekai is 100 times worse – oh joy as if it couldn’t get any worse for him. He begins to screw around now that he has got what he wanted from sekai but that wasn’t the first thing he did. Well firstly he kept putting off from telling kotonoha the truth. I blame sekai for this (partly) but I’ll get onto it in the next section.

Yea well makoto is so spineless I just saw him as a person who doesn’t want to lose both girls. Even though he knows how deep of a shit he is in, he is just unwilling to let go of kotonoha hence delaying the inevitable. Isn’t it shocking that it wasn’t until the last few episodes of the series where it was setsuna who made makoto tell kotonoha the truth...err by that time it was way too little too late, Which results in kotonoha breaking down.

But before that the most thing I’m pissed about with his attitude is his inability to feel any regret or remorse (unlike sekai) as he obviously knew that holding onto this secret and avoiding her was only hurting the girl who he has previously “loved”. HA! In this series love is used in the most twisted way ever!
I suspect that makoto never “loved” anyone...what he loved was their bodies – typical

He is such a lucky yaro if I’ve ever seen one myself! Go the guy is a chick magnet for all the wrong reasons and yet they keep coming for more...until the end that is :D

The ending that makoto go was just perfect. Now if all women did that to guys who deserve it then this would be such a better world.
I just don’t know what to say for makoto anymore. He is such a bland and boring character even seeing his dumbass face makes me want to break something *punches wall*.

Sekai –

I never harboured much love for sekai. Even in the beginning I only thought of her as someone who is too nosey at looking into someone else’s business. And my dislike soon turned into hatred when she started to give makoto the special helps. I mean to be realistically it is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!

Looking back we all know how sekai was the one pulling the strings which started off the unwanted relationship between makoto and kotonoha. However, she should have just left it at that and for nature to take its own course. But instead sekai confused makoto by giving him the first hint of being unsure about who he really loves.

The kiss...WHAT!!!! :twitch:

Yea that was my initial reaction to the kiss after episode one. The act that spelt disaster for kotonoha. This is the thing that I hate about sekai. She is just to dam unstable in her own thoughts. She knows full well what he feelings where but yet she chose to ignore them. Fair enough but only if she kept her urges to herself then maybe makoto might live a happy life with kotonoha. But instead she chose to drop hints every now and then.

But another flaw in her character is that she just doesn’t seem to get the point of couples no working. Why the hell is she trying her hardest to pull makoto and kotonoha together when it’s obvious that it won’t work out? Forget what happened firstly, sekai was given a second chance to officially date makoto when kotonoha split up with him after the movie incident. But instead of taking this as a sign to go in and get her man she, instead to it upon herself to play cupid AGAIN. GIRL get some brains already! If she can see that the relationship isn’t working then why did she try to get them back together again? She should have just dated makoto herself instead of laying the goody goody ass friend.

The special training, now that was going one step too far. I’m sure everyone here agrees that sekai must have been out of her mind to be offering this so called “special training” AKA practicing sex. Just what has this world turned into? She really didn’t think that this act of seduction would have had and after effect? Give me a break. This act just shows that she is as naive as makoto.
With that said and done she later gave into his wishes. Fair enough but what happens next? She total fails to get makoto to tell kotonoha the truth. *sigh* as I have said countless times if makoto doesn’t have enough of a spine to go then she should have gone instead.

Anyway, as the series progressed we see her influence over makoto lessen as he begins to lust for other women. This ultimately results to her depression and emo states with countless highs and lows – so much that I can’t even remember it all :heh:

So to summarise. Sekai is the person who started all this balls in the first place. Even if she wasn’t the person to finish it (actually she was the second) she is directly responsible for all the drama in this series concerting the trio. She is constantly fighting her feelings but isn’t unaware that those feelings are not being fully contained and so events happen between her and makoto. Before she realized what a mess she has made it was all too later. Setsuna is gone so there isn’t anyone to count on. She was left by herself to clean up everything but her naive attitude caused her downfall. Her last resort to make makoto saty by her side failed as obviously he doesn’t want to hold responsibility. And hence the killing ++++++ points and her death -------- points >_<

Kotonoha –

Ah my princess...how hath dost been wrong.
Yep as most may already know I am a full supporter of kotonoha so bare with me if my view on her comes across as being bias.
Throughout the whole series kotonoha has come across as being the victim to me. Why? Well the simple answer would be because she didn’t have anything to do with this yet her devotion to a single man (however unworthy) is causing her to miss the plot completely.

She was betrayed! Basically yes she was betrayed as she never got the full picture until it was too late.
In the first half of the series we have seen how much kotonoha has tried to become less shy, and she even succeeds with the pool episode, I laugh so hard at the kotonoha haters because the mainly use excuses such as “she is too shy” to beat her away with the stick. Yea kotonoha may be shy but just look at her try hard NOT to be shy. She knows her own weakness and tires to improve on it while sekai doesn’t. THROW THAT INTO YOU PIPE AND SMOKE IT! *cough* random fanboy outburst :heh:

Continuing, kotonoha has been betrayed quite badly. Looking at her personality we can see that she is the traditional “Japanese housewife” type of girl which isn’t surprising that she asks shy and reserved. It is just the way she is brought up to be – yep the perfect wifu. It also isn’t shocking to see why she would want to be with makoto so much but later on it takes a deeper meaning.
Kotonoha has always been the girl idol which is like a double edge sword. While people drool over her nice curves everyone is scared to talk to perfection and hence kotonoha is left without a friend and manages to make a lot of enemies AKA jealous bitches!

When I said that she has always been the victim I wasn’t joking. Looking at the amount of shit she takes in everyday 1) bossy bitches 2) loneliness 3) shyness – being too afraid to speak up 4) people wanting to rape her – I am actually quite surprised that she managed to held things out, with a hint of deny until she was told the truth.

Basically for makoto she was just treated like an object (a slab of meat), not that she knows or probably even care now that she has find “happiness”. For someone who has been alone for so long the word “happiness” is warped. What kotonoha think is happiness is just her way of saying to feel wanted. She is afraid to lose the only two people who would even care for her but little does she know all the time she was being backstabbed.

Now onto the relationship. Kotonoha has played the part of the tragic heroine. Looking at the facts it is evident that she has been denied a proper explanation throughout the whole betrayal. Pretty bad when she announced to the bitches that makoto is her boyfriend only to catch him having sex with sekai. Just imagine the amount of shock she went through? This was when the cracks started to appear. She becomes in denial of the situation whether or not she really understands it is unknown but from the looks she is really innocent in that aspect (though some might argue that she is just batshit mad ).

It is really sad to see her holding onto hope when everyone was spreading rumours on her lying about the fact that she is makoto’s girlfriend. This fact is true seen as makoto never revealed the truth until later. Looking at how fcking bitchy everyone can be just proke my heart – even setsuna couldn’t resist but give the evil eye to kotonoha countless times.

Kotonoha then actually has a completely breakdown with the whole “taking to herself” and stuff. I guess the second shock of having her boyfriend confirm the truth was just too much and there we have it.
Next was her revival but that didn’t prove that she was sane. Yep the way she acted towards sekai in the last episode was just out of her usual character. At this point I just can’t see her as a sane human anymore – the mental damage was just too much.

I’m actually pretty depressed seeing her killing sekai with such a psycho look. All of this came about due to a series of misfortunate events and so I can’t find the heart to condemn her. She has already suffered enough from the amount of shit that wasn’t supposed to happen but did and just looking at the final scene where she was holding onto makoto’s head like some treasure just broke my heart. Depression has sunk a new low .

*pause*

Well I guess I’ll stop here for now seen as I’m goddam tired XD I will probably finish this post off tomorrow.
Just for the record though ill rate this series a 10/10 for reasons I will explain later on

Totally agree whith the death which killz (with a saw and a lot of blood^^).

The ending has refreshed a lot of anime suki forumers.

But do you know an anime with a perfect ending?
Maybe you have THE perfect ending to each anime, so send your curriculum vitae to Toei Animation, Bones, TNK or Overflow.
It's not too late
:D.
Death Note has been very criticized a lot too with its ending but personnaly I loved it. (I don't understand why people have done it, for me it's just critic for critic, so I fuck it and I'd rather make my own feeling about it).

Japanimation is like it. I have a lot of time be unsatisfied by a lot of anime endingz but for me the end of SD, this is quite good so don't be afraid.

Watch SD.
Spend a good time.
Make your own opinion.
Buy the DVDs, tee-shirts, hentais, toys... (I joke:p)

Be sure that anime is really original and pleasant.
An anime to have absolutely.

Edit: Oops! I forgot: I give directly a 10 to it for the global serie. Enjoy!

7/10.

It has a overall crappy story (by mixing in too many ingredients/arcs), but the ending is pretty good.

Plot 9/10: It went to where no other romance series have ever dared. Served as a refreshing change in an genre that has became stagnant in the recent years and will serve as the benchmark for "innovative harem plot" for years to come.
Music 12/10: OP serving as contrast was perfect in retrospect. ED's and BGM fitted like a glove.
Animation 8/10: Leaps and bounds ahead of the pixilated stills that claimed to be animation in the game and was above average for such type of anime.
Acting 10/10: Characters were clearly defined and never felt like script reading.

Well, I thought this would honestly be one of those typical harem romances in their innocent like ways. I was wrong. I did not expect anything that happened. I must admit its a big change for this genre but it went a little extreme. I felt the ending wasn't really great; lots of holes in a conclusion for other characters, they just drop off from ever being apart of the show. It became fun to watch what messed up things were going to happen next for me.

Well, that was great. After the comparative hilarity of episode 11, we all knew this anime was going in strange and novel directions. The destination it ended up in defines this anime as a whole. Suddenly every trivial and seemingly nonsensical decision seems to take on a new significance. It was the old switcheroo! The first three quaters of this anime are designed to throw you into the familiar state of acceptance of some of the more ridiculous tenets of this genre (when converted from game to anime) - every woman habouring a crush for the lead, one woman with extremes of emotional instability, the typical duality of the nurturing/introspective versus the sporty/outgoing... You know, the usuals. People were scratching their heads somewhat (and I'll admit to giving my scalp a good rake) at around the mid point of this anime, wondering what the hell the writers were playing at. Yet it now seems to simple and quite logical - they were pushing us around, wrongfooting, trying to generate a complete lack of understanding, trying to place us in the box of 'unsuspecting'. Some of us saw through the tricks and traps and yet still wondered quite innocently where this was going. Most of us saw something big and controversial on the horizon.

This was never going to be a presto-chango redemption anime with the warm inner glow of humanity's enduring goodness burning throughout, however dimly. No, this was dirty, ugly, depraved and inconsequential desire without consideration, rampant and unabated lust on all sides, not just Makoto. All serious offenders get their comeuppance in varying degrees of ironic and macabre detachment, bathed in the blackest of humour. Sekai gets the horror of dumping right in front of her eyes, tortured by the apparent love-in going on right in front of her eyes on Makoto's doorstep. Nothing breaks a girl's heart like a fierce tongue wrestle inches away from your nose. Kotonoha taunts Sekai with the horrible grain of truth within her barbs - the calculated seduction of Makoto, the pretense of getting close via comaraderie, the revelation of Setsuna's 'infidelity' AND we learn that Sekai even was originally aware of Setsuna's liking of Makoto and tried to pull exactly the same stunt to get close to Makoto. I guess we can infer that Makoto did give Setsuna the benefit of his experience if this is how Sekai reacts, although Kotonoha is probably just exaggerating because unless Makoto told her (and that's doubtful), she's probably just playing it us. It's as indistinct as ever, but Sekai recognises that Setstuna was just as selfish in her pursuit of Makoto as she was regarding Kotonoha. Each and every one of the women here are at fault in varying degrees. The breaking of Sekai occurs in one fell swoop - Makoto doesn't want her, he doesn't love her, their love was a pretense based on seduction, he doesn't want to have their baby, her only friend did the dirty on her and has left the country AND she faces the Makoto-shaped pressure of getting an abortion (or does she? I'll get to this). That's a lot to handle in one night.

Makoto's like a human weather vane. In the final episode, we got a little bit more of a sense of the character. I do feel as though he redeemed himself SLIGHTLY, although he'd already signed his death warrant by being so explicit with Kotonoha in front of Sekai. What struck me as odd was that a great deal was made of Makoto claiming he'd had enough of chasing every skirt he could and instead was trying to 'settle down' with Kotonoha. He actually seemed to be making the effort (however superficial). We got a sense of some of the turmoil he was in being lumbered with a pregnancy this early in his life (his own stupid fault, but both he AND Sekai should have been more careful) and his desire to make things stick with Kotonoha (although the application of hands to breasts with the promise of more to come was surely a motivation...). We got to see him making tea for his girl, which is a little strange because we'd NEVER seen him make such a small gesture before outside of his bumbling attempts at courtship (or pleasuring himself - that's a rough joke).

Now, I'm a squeamish little ponce. I can't handle blood, black or otherwise. What I did enjoy was the pacing in the final episode. They played with the atmosphere of expectation perfectly! The kettle being boiled was a great little bit of manipulation - it's eerily quiet and then we get the smash cut of the hob starting up. There's a lot of great imagery going on in that kitchen - Sekai's realisation that she, and potentially her child (had she have gone through with the abortion), are yesterday's rubbish while staring at the waste in the binliner from the night before, Makoto literally getting his fingers burnt by trying to get at the kettle before he's ready to handle it etc. etc. All nice touches. They didn't forget some of the smaller details like Kotonoha's wealth (getting picked up by car) as well, which was nice to see. The actual stabbing of Makoto was harrowing from the point of view that we get a distressed style of animation on his features while he's in his death throes - the flashing before him of his romantic life was probably, as hinted, to cover some of the more explicit scenes of his wounds that were supposedly seen at the 0verflow screening, as they seemed a little trite and forced. But it's where Makoto's hand ends up that's the most interesting part of this scene. That and his 'thank goodness'. This is the writer's attempt at giving Makoto a tiny little bit of redemption - or a last cruel trick on Sekai. Did he want the abortion? He made a point of saying that Kotonoha had suggested the doctor. While in the living room, he wonders whether she got the wrong idea... The wrong idea about what? "Do it as soon as possible". Seems pretty clear cut. Also, why does Kotonoha know a doctor specialising in abortions, hmm? Does he also assume she took the morning off to meet the doctor? So many questions, so indistinct (as normal, eh?). Let's assume that Sekai did have an abortion, and that compounded her mental state to such an extent she murdered Makoto in much the same fashion - Makoto's abdominal fondling would suggest he actually wanted the kid. It would give Kotonoha's examination some credence as well. That would send Sekai right over the edge. But then again, she claims she didn't go to the doctor (or at least, 'not one that Kotonoha recommended')... So indistinct! Questions upon questions. Ah well, dead men tell no tales.

Makoto's behaviour essentially sealed his fate. He was never going to get away with his rampant lifestyle. That's the point - for some, some deeds are never overcome with a desire for redemption when you're playing with hearts like a contrived eroge or a saccarine sweet romance. Makoto payed in blood because there was no other conclusion for the anime to make unless it wanted to double back on itself and return to the realms of realism from whence it started, and it was far beyond that stage. No, we were somewhere else entirely - the ending of this anime bears absolutely no resemblence to the beginning and as if to make that point as EXPLICIT as possible, they layered over an innocent-as-you-like idle wondering from a once-romantic Makoto at the very end. The writers are showing you what you fell for, showing you where you've been so you can make sense of the journey. Makoto died for a reason - and that reason was purely to create as great a contrast between the beginning and the end as possible. Throw together a group of largely unlikeable losers willing to do the dirty on their closest friends, a loathsome lovehound whose only consideration for 90% of the show is where his next lay is coming from, and all the staples of the harem genre, allow the protagonist to take full advantage of the situation in typical eroge style, and let the whole recipe simmer until boiling point.

Sekai was bested by Kotonoha whose return to idealism was best typified in the final few shots of the anime by taking the severed head of her beloved and sailing off into the sunset. It's a hilarious send-up of her detachment and exemplifies what she wanted from Makoto in the first instance - the type of hopelessly fantastical companionship that a relentlessly bullied incommunicado lunatic craves. She's GOT what she wanted. She's satisfied! She gets the happy ending, she gets the sunset. I had a joke here about Makoto giving her head but I'll leave it. Her punishment is her reward - a descent into the bottomless abyss, completely detached - completely at sea. Nice boat, Kotonoha.

So really, what does this anime mean? Not much. It's a thumbing of the nose to expectation and realism. It's a thumbing of the nose to logical plot development and character exposition. It's a triumph of style over substance - but knowingly so. It is perhaps the first 'harem' piece that is so conscious of its most recognisable traits that it deliberately distorts them and overplays them. It is self-aware, and yet self-depreciating. It mocks itself as a typical bit-player in an overcrowded genre that specialises in dirty exercises of wish fulflilment - almost a method of distancing itself from the source material. It treats the fans of the games with a certain degree of contempt, almost as though it is saying 'this is what you'd spend your time on? These hopeless fantasies? Well get real!'. It has no appreciation for taste or decency because they are meaningless in pursuit of the goal - that nothing is more distasteful than the eager participation of the viewer in their digestion of it. Rape? Group sex? Voyeurism? Corpse mutilation? The possibility of necrophilia? Chalk them up, and hang your heads in shame. The players, and viewers, are Makoto. Those who pursue for the sex scenes, those who want to see the endings that result in bloodshed. Feeling suitably dirty?

9/10 - EXCELLENT!

It's great that there's a harem anime that finally shows what [b]SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED[b/] in all harem shows! Great to see that both the "honest" jerk Makoto and the backstabbing scheming psycho bitch Sekai to die in their respectively deserved gruesome-ness.

+++++++++++ for the mutilation of Makoto
+++++++++++++++++++++ for the "cesarean delivery" on Sekai

-1/10 I want my soul back after watching this monstrosity. Originally i said that i would probably rate the series a 5/10 but that poor excuse for an ending shattered what little respect i was going to give. To take a mediocre story to start out with and completely destroy it is beyond my comprehension. The start SD was too my liking not overly great but not bad either with great potential. Around episode 8 is when it went to shit for me.

The story is not meant to be taken seriously its anime of course. But the way they ended the series with the gory for no reason blood feast was not tasteful at all, Tell me was there any point to having Katsura cut open Sekai for check for a baby? did it really need to be done? what did it add to the story? showing us Katsura mental instability was already shown it could have ended after she sliced Sekais throat open. Also, did sawing Makotos head add anything? nope nothing there either. Some people are comparing the ending of SD to Higurashi BLASPHEMY :frustrated:Higurashi is not a Shojo/Shonen romance the killing and deaths in that series are directly related to the plot and is a MUST for the series plus Higurashi is a suspense drama/thriller where deaths usually occure in this genre. For the recored I was not opposed to some killing if it were done with some meaning SOMETHING behind it to make it worth the time and needlessly to say i didnt get it. Its so easy to end an anime like this with no real talent and barely any work. None of the damn problems were solved technically nothing happened. The same recycled crap just kept going around and around till the gruesome deaths at the end. You would think a story would go somewhere SD went no where so im left asking my self what is it i just watched and i honestly can not answer.

In closing the possibilities to make School Days half way decent was wasted on the build up leading to the killings nothing more, thats all it was make the drama so intense so it would justify the blood at the end. Everything that happend was only to get the audience to hate Makoto, Make Sekai the scapegoat and have sympathy for Katsura. I can sum the whole series up in couple of words.

Lies
Cheating
Sex
more lies
more sex
Repeat previous lines 12 times for each episode
GRUESOME DEATH

That is all that happen unfortunately the series will probably be rated high by most viewers because all most people wanted was blood and they got it. I honestly wonder if the writers slept well after this episode.

Sekai is not the scapegoat, she's the grand bitch in the show. Only Sekai fans will try to think her as a scapegoat due to Makoto's faults, just like only Makoto fans (yea I've seen some :heh: ) will try to think him as a scapegoat due to Sekai's faults. Actually the whole show can be summed up to these :

If you are a guy, don't be a jerk

9/10

I am a big fan of School Days and Summer Days, so I was really excited about an anime adaption.

By the first episode, I knew it was going great.

By the fifth episode, I couldn't wait for the next episode.

It got crazier by the episode. However, it was more of a bad thing than a good thing. Characters did stupid, illogical, or unexplainable things and left viewers (that did not play the game) startled going :twitch:.

Anyways, this was pretty much revolutionary in the romance genre and was one of the charms of this show.

Of course, the only thing I can complain about is that the anime makes the characters seem far worse and more stupid than they actually are. As a fan of various characters, it was somewhat painful to watch several events in the show.

I never cared too much about a bloody ending, nor did I desire one, but that was what resulted from the actions of the main character who is a complete idiot and a big jerk in the anime. But it was definitely an amazing end, despite various unexplained things.

Animation Quality: 8 (It's pretty good, but I liked the way the characters looked in the game)
Voice Actors: 9 (Sounded strange occasionally, but no real problems plus similar sounding to the game's voice acting)
Script: 8 (Crazy and ridiculous, but that was one of this show's good points)
Adaptation from Game: 6 (definitely different)

The opening theme was meh, but the inserts and ending themes win.

Farewell, School Days anime, I won't forget you!

If you are a girl, don't be a bitch
Run-of-the-mill harem anime sucks, School Days rocks.

I said the writers wanted people to think she was the scape goat not that she was, yes there is difference. Matter of opinion on if it rocks. i happen to disagree with you. i think it was done horribly i see no redeeming qualities to be taken away from the series. Except ( and this is according to a lot of fans here)

If you are jerk Die
IF you cheat Die
If your a bitch Die
if you lie Die

No matter what is said it only comes back to Makoto should die or Sekai should die or Katsura should just kill them all. Sorry thats too damn easy and too freakin lazy they had a shit load of material to write the anime adaptation and they still made bastardized it.

I don't know how to rate it. It was a fun ride, but the main characters are just too idiotic for me to care about their end one way or the order. The plot seem to be driven toward maximum amount of controversy, and very successful at that by looking at the post counts in various forums. Will watch the last ep again when the uncensored one appears, but it is certainly not on the buy list.

well IMHO the writer just wanted people to think Sekai is a grand bitch, as far as I can see that is :p

I think your expectation is too high. We are talking about a harem anime here, not some literature thesis or Shakespearean masterpiece. For a harem anime to deliver the "jerk die bitch die" message it's already quite a miraculous masterpiece :heh:

Well my expectations were not high to begin with iv said that since episode 1. I just find it amazing that i set my standards low and the show still managed to come in under it that alone take talent. It doesnt have to be Shakespearean but for all that is holy at least make it GOOD im not even saying great just GOOD.

like the first season of higurashi, school days give a good start containing romance jokes. Then it ran through out the despairing part (mostly the ending) thus turn violent and bloody (pukes).
BTW, it would suit the series.
Hope Overflow would make OVA for the series, maybe contain the alternate ending either it would be a happier and delightful end or the worst and despaired end......

OMG! Now THAT was one hell of a ride. I'm glad I stopped reading anything about the series once I heard that a bad ending was possibe. I was bummed that it wasn't going to be a total suprise but I was supprised by this ending. WOW. How creepy can you get?

BTW, did anyone get the idea that perhaps Kotonoha had to see the doctor herself? That she knew a little too much about the procedure? That woudl really make sense.

I wish I could easily burn these to a DVD so my wife would watch it on TV.

Shocking, truly shocking. A very good ride!!!!

DAMN THAT WAS GOOD!!! How can I go to sleep now? Wow. what a creep factor.

Its STILL creeping me out! I can't remember when anything had such an effect on me.

First of all:

Animation Quality: 9
Voice Actors: 8
Script: 4
Adaptation from Game: NA
Editing: 5
Music: 9

Total: 7/10

First, I was quite disappointed with the ending, because it was just sad...not SaiKano sad, not KgNE sad, not Grave of the Fireflies sad, but it was disturbingly sad. Other than that, I didn't mind most the series. I spent a big chunk of my posts defending Sekai and Makoto's actions on their character threads, but I did turn against Makoto when he started having sex wildly with Otome for no reason at all. However, I did not with for Makoto to die a painful death, but that he will be with no one in the end.

This series did indeed surprise me, because I never thought I would come close to forgiving Makoto and believing that someday he could show remorse about what he's done. The animation and voice acting was close to excellent...seriously. I give animation the 9 only because of the black blood. It's a good drama, but failed as a romance adaptation...but hey, maybe they didn't have that in mind. The suspense led me to rating some of the shows 10/10, and they are well worth 10/10...just not the ending.

One final thing...I love the music for this show. Anime is rarely all bad, and for many of the shows I wouldn't find excellent I love their music, such as School Days, InuYasha, Bokura ga Ita, Koi Kaze, etc.... (I'm not dissing these anime. I do enjoy them, but I have a very high standard for "excellent" anime.) Even though this anime ended, I will still be listening to its sound tracks for a while, I can tell you that.

I loved this anime from beginning to end.

I give it a total of 9/10

I especially loved the presentation. In the beginning you see the shy Makoto looking at Kotonoha from far apart, and the cute Sekai wants to help him out, so you relax thinking to enjoy another cheerful romance comedy featuring Makoto's clumsy attempts at romance. But then he instantly gets hooked up with Kotonoha, so the anime is about something else, but what? Then you see Sekai kiss him and now think it's about betrayed love and that Kotonoha will slap him and he will fumble his way into her good graces again, but again this doesn't happen. As each episode gets darker and more intense you realized you thought you would be riding a pony when in fact you put yourself on top a rabid lion.

I also liked how everyone was flawed. Going back on everything, if there had been a truly pure character reminding everyone of the right thing, it wouldn't have been as impactful as the jolly mess we have now.

The only downside is that the girls adoration for Makoto was pushed. How long can so many girls stay deluded like that?

Still a great series and one of my favorites now

Let's begin my rant..

Well for starter: I was initially attracted by this series, mainly because of the weird hype about back when the anime was announced months before.
After much spoiler galore (i asked for this anyway) and many valuable descriptions from Skyfall, i tried the game first out of curiosity (which i would regret many times, however).
I pretty much covered like, the third of it when the anime started to air, so I was kinda wondering which "route" (as it isn't really possible to name the path, due the horrible branch type of this game).
Thus, i was pretty much ready for almost "anything".
Unfortunately for my sanity, the scripters decided to go panzer to take the players from a blind spot. And... it didn't work for me.

Let's proceed

1) Image Quality:

1.1 Sakuga
The art was kinda faithful to the game, though it was rather dull, and less attractive.
What struck me immediately was probably the colors, pretty much flat, dull and lacking of impact. The lack of gradiants and shades isn't attractive either. Fortunately, the art itself is constant, though some proportions are a bit off (mainly kotonoha: the length of her skull and her cup size).
The unoriginal visual aspect is even worse if we consider the overuse of the same background. I'm aware it is a school life anime, and so, you shouldn't expect anything of high magnitude.
That said, the lack of details weren't exactly a plus.

1.2 Animation
The animation itself is very decent, thought nothing really special.

The big issue was probably the camera, which was hardly original. Many still shot, and middle plans. Of course, for this kind of genre, dynamic camera isn't really a plus, it might be an hinderance instead. However, the anime could emphasis much better on the "feelings" of the characters with specific zoom and the like.

In short
The visual quality doesn't have any major issue. School Days has rather a decent score in that regard, despite lacking of something charming or outstanding. Not exactly a strong nor a weak point then.
7/10

2) Sound Quality:

2.1 Voice Actors
The seiyuu actually fit well the personality of their characters. Hirakawa Daisuke proved to be even more "boring" and "flat" for a lazy and unconcerned Makoto.
Okajima Tae didn't have many trouble to use a "innocent" and timid voice, while Kawaragi Shiho could express the noisy and direct approach of Sekai.
While their voices are pretty much adapted, the expresion and "passion" in it aren't great, however.
This problem affected particularly Okajima and Kawaragi. Okajima wasn't exactly convincing for either her cold/psychotic/lifeless tones, while Kawaragi literraly failed Sekai's anger, especially in episode 12 (her voice was so rough in the phone call then it almost turned into someone else's).
This is a bit too bad, considering their performances in the game were better, despite some impression of "reading" in various instances.

As for the side characters, they follow rather one dimensional traits and don't exactly have many issues to perform it.

2.2 Opening / Ending
Considering the sheer amount of ending, it will be hard to critic each of them (and i must admit, i'm a bit lazy).
Let's see for the Opening.
It is simply misleading to the very core. Innocent blue? Quite ironic isn't it...?
To be quite honest, the very first time i heard it, i cringed considered it was nowhere near of the original game OP, the one used for the end of episode 12. The very start of the opening is simply a chaotic noise rush, giving forced impression of "happiness" and "fluff".
If we consider how the singer was kinda flat, and how the instrumental part was underwhelming, it is a very poor opening to me.

Most endings have a better mood, and i salute the fact they could use many differents, without any problem. It is a bid too bad the cellphone sequence doesn't reflect that much the difference, but it isn't something that bad anyway.

2.3 Inserted Songs
There weren't many of them, but their timing were quite nice.
The only exception is probably for the one used for episode. Basically they used the calm and slow portion first when sekai assaulted Makoto, while the violin would be much more appropriate.
The extended use of it for the aftermath and second murder wasn't really appropriate, considering the complete shift in the atmosphere of the episode. That said, nothing really peculiar to note.

2.4 BGM
They weren't particularly striking, but they have the merit to fit most scenes, though they weren't as effective as the inserted songs for the critical scenes.
The set of BGM is a bit unbalanced: there are some dull tracks, most are good, and there are few gems (especially the violin one used in episode 1)
In various instances, the silence was inappropriate, slowing the pace a bit in the process.

In short
Aside for the miserable performance of the OP, the sound aspect of SD is pretty much good in that regard.
8/10

3) Script:
This is probably the biggest issue of this anime. Basically, the whole ordeal of the characters wasn't really smooth in term of pace and content.

3.1 Characters:
A very very sensible subject... literaly, a mine field.
Debates on "who is right, who is wrong" aside, the characters have something in common: flaws.
This fact is not problematic in anime, as perfect characters are usually dull and favourable for ugly conclusion and various other obnoxious results, such like deux ex machina etc.
The problem with "flaws" in school days is basically: there are too much of them.
The characters lack of charisma and solid standards to actually give some empathy to the watchers. What generate so much debate are probably the clash between the 2 prime girls and the aftermath/consequences of Makoto's questionable deeds and decisions, but that's it. There isn't many much to say about the characters outside of the predicament of the main plot, and it leaves many plot holes and so forth, with the biggest of them: how could they actually cling on Makoto for more than the half of the series?

While the human aspects weren't asbent, the defaults/flaws were so exaggerated that the whole setup of the plot became cranky, giving so much bad aftertaste that the cohesion of the story becomes very questionable.
Thus, because of this, various overkill reactions weren't exactly shocking. Worse, many personality shift (especially Makoto) pops randomly, giving an horrible and shacky "character development".

The episode 11 was probably the biggest mistake the scripters could do, as they were throwing characters completely unconcerned by the main plot into the very core of the fray.
These plot devices begun to be even more ridiculous when nothing is explained, and especially not how it is resolved (mainly, Setsuna's case)

How did hikari end in Makoto's bed? Why didn't they actually show what happened with Setsuna, and especially makoto's reaction?
Talking about Makoto, his reactions were completely unpredictable and most likely out of the blue.
Various "revelations" giving him superficial "redeemable" reactions, though either too late or fruitless.
Worse, it isn't even coherent with his mindset (for example: his feeling outbreak about sekai, which is hardly logic).
To me, they tried to use some "good parts" of the game, and inserted forcefully in the anime plot, which wasn't compatible AT ALL.

Still on the flaws, the characters never learn, and this is the scary/genius part of the anime. Makoto is able to do whatever he wants, blowing further and further the balloon until it explodes. The problem in such concept is mainly the "plot" itself: how it will conclude, and how "plot twists" can act to spice it up.
And that is the problem, because they actually use devices, instead of a coherent story progression.
Remember kotonoha's new aggressive tactic? It didn't last long right?
What about Otome's stance?

3.2 Story progression
Everything fall apart, as the development begun to conflict with what the scripters wanted to shape.
No, they didn't elaborated the script around the possible and logic consequences with the causes from the previous episodes. Rather, they played the wild card of "WTF BBQ" erraticaly. It beguns with Setsuna's case in episode 7, which in the end, didn't exactly have some impact, until they just flesh it out from nowhere in episode 12.
They could actually use this character in various other instances, with various hints, instead of forcefully adding her in such state of the plot (giving even more OOC impression around Makoto).
This is the same for Otome and Taisuke in episode 9. They suddenly take action, and the direct consequence is simply... even more problem for Makoto, though the direct impact just... vanished somehow in 2-3 episodes later. Their implications were quickly erased from our memories (especially Taisuke, who hardly makes any appearance after the festival).

Even if we put the characters aside, the absurd amount of events in favour of "screwing up" is even worse than the game. This is probably the reason why the script part felt so horrible to me: absolutely not a constant nor coherent evolution, the characters development is almost inexistent and bursting into exaggeration.
The "waterfall" flow of several batshit events just screwed the pace of the series, which turned to be VERY VERY unbalanced, as almost everything happen in the last 4 episodes.
This is the reason why episode 11 was so laughable as many if not all plot twists in this episode were nearly impossible nor realist. It quickly turns the show from "questionable" to "mediocre", giving more "comedy" aspect than drama.
I don't think I should reinforce the aspect that if a show actually gives the complete opposite feeling (here comedy instead of drama) of what it was supposed to do, it is a very very bad sign of mediocrity.

-
The pinnacle is probably episode 12, the complete "non sense" in my eyes.
Basically, the scripters just use the "bloody bad end" card so they don't only get away from the messy plot, but they can actually have the joy and praises of fans.

Many inconsistencies with the characters are present, which just nail the coffin even more.
The biggest problem is probably Sekai's death.
Again, aside of "deserving it or not", which has NOTHING to do here, it is rather the meaningful aspect of it, and especially the logic behind it.
Basically, Sekai killed Makoto, resulting into Kotonoha's insanity.
The problem here is: Kotonoha still consider Makoto's head as "makoto", and doesn't mind if he is dead. WORSE, she is actually happy with this, but just keep the "baby issue".

Isn't it stupid? I mean, what would happen if Sekai lied and said "i went and saw your doctor" ?
Kotonoha had absolutely no revenge wish. it is even more twisted, as she can now have literaly Makoto for herself, as it is hardly possible to take him away from her. If she had a single sense of "sanity", she would actually try to kill herself, much like in the game, to be with him eternally.
In the game, she kills sekai only if she is an hinderance for her, after many screws up, and obvious happiness with Makoto.
In Kotonoha's logic "Sekai dead => Makoto for me". However, this cannot be applied if Makoto is already for her, either when he was alive, or reduced into this pathetic head.

If Kotonoha was really an avenger, why only her obsession with the "baby"? Why she is simply checking like a psychotic? Just because she lose her sanity, her murderous intent should be activated out from the blue? This doesn't make much sense. They used her insanity so they CAN kill sekai.
Hence, the sanity "plot device", instead of being the cause of "sekai death", begins to be a "requirement flag" raised to kill this character. In other words, it was artificial and superficial

Let's not mention that Kotonoha didn't kill Sekai in the game in "To my children" ending. That explains pretty much. (and before you ask, no Kotonoha wasn't really sane in the threesome path leading to this. Makoto screw a lot to the point she was the one who suggested the threesome idea. She wants Makoto that badly, to the point she can share him)
Now, another stupid point is probably Kotonoha HAX skills before executing Sekai.
I know Sekai was too obvious with her knife. The issue is that Kotonoha isn't exactly sane, and her movements are not realist, not to mention that Sekai's left hand was free. Even "bloody conclusion" of the game looks more realist than this.

Makoto's behaviour was even more silly, as he didn't have any SINGLE remorse or consideration for Sekai after the baby incident.
And suddenly... he begins to be sensitive to Kotonoha breakdown in episode 11, turning into "true love", and even having some inner thoughts "i was selfish, bla bla bla" ? The fact he even pats Sekai's abdomen when he was killed is even less logic, considering how he was crawling for his life, and how he was pitiful.
That was probably one of the worst attempt to "redeem" a badly scripted bad character.

this is probably the reason why i felt the bloody end was rather an attempt to finish this series without any trouble, as it is plain fanservice, rather than good storytelling.
And before you are hammering the fact "a non dead-end isn't satisfying", there are many way to make it a "bad end" without any death (even with violence, but not necesseraly any death). Death isn't something which can always be allocated as "greatest sacrifice of a hero" or "best punishment for a villain/despicable character".
There are many ways how to completely screw Makoto without killing him, and without forcing any of the girls to commit suicide so he got owned by this sight.
And truthfully, suffering several decades is much worse than the physical death, to me.

In short
Clearly not, this series couldn't end happily (no way in frozen hell), but it could be conclusive and/or bad for the characters, while being good in the regard of story telling and story progression.
Therefore, i can only put the worst note for this aspect of the serie, as they were trying to fool around with plot devices, squeezing many "insane events" to rumble the situation even more, and finishing the mess with the most tasteless and easiest way.
1/10

4) Adaptation from the game
The game wasn't actually an excellent one to begin with.
The way how the story can progress without the full control of Makoto was really something horrible for various part of it.
Due the sheer amount of "ZOMG" factors and complete batshit "deathflags", the game was unpredictable.
Still, the numerous different endings (though the third is rather bad) helped to actually portray the characters without various sides, (even makoto), to the point that nothing is set in stone, and the chaotic situation can differ greatly from the shocking bloody bad end.

In that regard, the Anime was "faithful", in a very bad way.
The anime barely tried to take the general structure, but certainly used almost every wicked aspects of each characters, without letting them their shining and "noble" moments. We will NEVER see Makoto defending Kotonoha against the bully. We shall not see Sekai and kotonoha alliance, nor the possible way for an actual "good ending" for Otome, etc.

They simply removed every aspect of it, and served the characters in a very gloomy and dark spotlight.
As result, the characters are hardly likable, but their flaws begin to be overwhelming, leading to exaggerated situations and labors.

This could be "okay", if they actually not shuffled the game content, into such extent that it doesn't really make sense as an anime stand alone.
It begins to be even more mindraping, as episode 11 turned the show into a joke, with various "routes" sitched altogether without any logic or foreshadowing hints.
And the pinnacle was indeed the bad end, which is in fact not that "original", since they simply combined the 3 bad ends from the game into 1. (though Kotonoha "suicide" in the anime is rather peaceful and "unfair" in contrast with the other 2 dead meat)

In short
I was expecting angst and such story telling, so it could give a "shining" side of the game, as even twisted, it can be enjoyable, which wasn't the case for me in the end.
4/10

Conclusion
This anime suffered from good prejudice, especially the characters, because the scripters just poked fun of the already twisted story.
School Days is probably one of the most controversal series, as the story presentation looks innocent and realist, until the "dark side" of it, beguns almighty, to the point the meaningful side of it just let its place for a dark parody of angsty romance.
It is a waste of potential, as the start was slow but smooth, until everything begins to be silly and plain awful.

an unbelievable disappointement, which i give a score of
3/10 - bad

This "essay" is of course my only opinion, and i don't pretend to get an appreciation more worthy than anyone else's.

I reviewed the anime. http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=animeatt&aid=5117&attid=5165

8/10 based on my enjoyment level. Starts off innocently as another harem anime, but then turns into a drama-fest and spirals into the characters' actions and their demise. Fun to watch! Not fun for those who don't know background information (which I really stress that everyone should know before watching School Days) or hoping for a happy ending.

10/10 for me. I loved the fact that it started off very light-hearted and ended in brutal violence... definitely different from what I'm used to seeing. I also very much love the music for the opening/insert/ending songs; I can't stop listening to the vocal OST. The only thing I disliked about the series was Makoto's voice in the first 3-4 episodes... it's like the voice actor was trying too hard for a while there.

PS: Makoto says "Sekai" as he's dying, not "Thank goodness." It was a mistake in the subbing.

I think since I watched this with everyone else, I should give opinions.

The Goods:
Animation Quality (9/10). Looking at the quality of the characters, scenery, and action which takes place, it is amazing. I could not ask for better. It was basically Kyoto Animation quality.
Seiyu (8/10). I've heard a lot that these voice actors were just trying to hard to sound like the original. Having never played the game, I must say that this is probably just comparative. I thought that the Seiyus were very good. Sekai and Makoto in particular, as long as Setsuna. It would be a 9 if Kotonoha had a voice that displayed some form of emotion.
Script Eps. 1-11 (7/10) I won't say that these episodes were great. However, to me they told a very compelling and interesting story. Was it messed up? Sure. But I think it was more than fun trying to figure out what was going to come out of this in the future episodes, and seeing how big of a hole Makoto could dig himself into. It was a very nice story for those parts.

The Bads:
Editing (5/10). Black Blood? I'm sorry, but if you're going to censor something, do a good job with it. The black just killed everything. I felt I was more disgusted with the black than the red of Higurashi.
Adaptation from the game (4/10). I've never played the game, but I know enough about it to judge this. You cannot throw together every single ending to make a story. It makes it choppy. The last couple episodes were exactly that. Choppy.

The Ugly:
Episode 12 (3/10). This episode was far too abrupt, and took out the chance of morality in the series. It became a series that told a story with no purpose thanks to this episode. It also failed to tie in Setsuna to the story, and failed to show what happened afterwards. This is the first series that I just decided to forget this episode happened and make up my own in my head.

Overall:
6/10. This is very low on my anime list because of the last episode. Had they made something like Makoto realizes his love for Sekai and becomes a good faithful father, It would've been an 8 or so. But rather, they made me throw up my dinner last night. :(

So let's begin.

Animation Quality: 8/10 - Very Good.

Sometimes the AQ disgusted me; becouse they did not explain WTF M and X were in that Y place (As episode 6 first scene).

VA's: 7/10 - Good.

Kotonoha's, Sekai's and Makoto's VA were all good; I'm disappointed of Otome's VA, her VA hear'd as hoarse (Don't remember how to type it, just remember that's an homophone of "horse") :heh:. It's not that bad, though, but I can be better.

Script: 6/10 - Average

I did like the whoooooleeeeee script, but not Sekai's script. She was all the time talking of "But Makoto's Kotonoha-san's Boyfriend..." repeating and repeating.

Adaptation from game: Don't know how to rate this one, I did not finished the game yet :( but from what I've played, a 7/10 is good - Good.

The only real SD's character is Kotonoha :( why? Becouse of what I've played, Sekai wasn't that free in the game. And Makoto wasn't a ladiesmen as in the anime.

Setsuna wasn't a real "important" character in the game.

Remember that I did only played 2 chapters of the game

Editing: What does this one mean? the how-they-did-drawn-characters?

OST: 8/10

Overall,
3/10

Why? That ending was so tasteless: Some of we did want Makoto to die, or something as that; I did not want something like that, was it really NECESSARY to take THAT way? It's REALLY absurd, who'll kill her/his Boyfriend/Girlfriend becouse of be cheating? Gawd.

10/10
Perfect life lessons for teenagers with raging hormones in high schools. Girls keep your clothes on and guys keep your **** in your pants.
Love the ending. Surpassed even the game's endings because there's more people dying.

While, I've yet to post here often I figure I may as well get my thoughts out on the anime somwhere since barely anyone I know has watched it or is watching it.

Basically, I felt that the story was... interesting. While, maybe not as good as other anime it did keep me on my toes. There were some key parts that were overall to be expected. Such as, whom Makoto was going to choose when it came to the bonfire dance. It obviously going to be Sekai simply because he preferred her at that current time. Overall, the story wasn't compelling enough to make me feel shocked like some other anime have. It kept me on my toes but, I never really got much shock out of it. As far as the rating for it... 7/10.

Animation? What's there to say? Honestly, it was satisfactory to me. As long as I can see and be able to tell what they are doing and who they are it's decent. If it looks great then it will work out good. I felt that the animation was very good, looking at some of the animation of the game based off pictures the anime comes close to the quality of the game. But... may have suffered due to lower quality of TVs? Don't know. It was good anyway, 8/10.

Voice Actors... I hadn't played the original game myself. So, I'll just go by what I thought was appropriate for the characters' personalities. Makoto's VA was all well and good, Sekai's did a nice job on her "shocked" emotion. Kotonoha... it fits her to an extent but, feels like there's not much emotion there. Like, she's just stating her opinion of Makoto every moment she can. Rather bland if you ask me. The side characters were suitable except maybe Otome's, hers felt rather awkward when compared to the other girls. I liked Setsuna's VA though! It reminded me a lot of Yuki's personality from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Overall: 7/10

Script? Well... I think it was decent. Things went the way they were supposed to, however, I felt that Episode 12 kind of pushed the limits of the script as far as Kotonoha goes. I mean, sure, she wasn't sane but to be that insane enough to do what she did PLUS behead her boyfriend is kind of crossing the line in my mind. It was perfectly fine for her to be insane enough to think she was on a date with Makoto, talking to Makoto, and so on when she had that break down after Makoto told her the truth straight up. It was clear that in Episode 12, she still wasn't as sane as she was in Episode 1 or 2. I felt it was somewhat OOC, but, I suppose it was good enough despite that. Overall: 6/10

Editing... well there isn't much to say here other than the black blood made me cringe more than red blood might have. It gave off that creepy vibe, as though you were actually watching someone being stabbed. Not my cup of tea but, it did its job I suppose. Overall: 4/10

Anime adaption compared to the game? Well, I never played the game so I can't really judge this.

Overall, I wouldn't give this anime a 10/10 for some minor nitpicky things. I just didn't find some scenes that great, especially, the scene where Taisuke takes advantage of Kotonoha. Again, not really my cup of tea but ah well, it did what it was supposed to. I'd give this anime perhaps, a 6 or 7/10. Perhaps... a 6.5/10 will do it justice enough. I just can't bring myself to give it a 7... it was good and original, just some parts also felt rushed, IMO.

I likened way this anime played out to loading a pistol and firing it.

Ep 1-8: Loading the magazine round by round.
Ep 9: Inserting magazine into pistol
Ep 10: Racking the slide
Ep 11: Deactivating the safety
Ep 12: Aim and fire

Overall, I give the series a 7/10, since I instinctively knew it would be a trainwreck right from the very beginning.

It also failed to tie in Setsuna to the story, and failed to show what happened afterwards.

Setsuna in the story? she's carrying Makoto's last evil seed in France. what happened afterwards? Kotonoha sails to France and buthers Setsuna to finally wipe Makoto's genes off of existence :heh:

Exactly.

Set-chan won at the end.
For Kotonoha , we don't know.

I didn't really like this series that much.
The characters were despiceable, animation and art could been better, music was nothing memorable and the voice acting was nothing special, imo
The last episode was pretty good though.

generic harem anime, not too bad but could certainly been better.

Episode 12 was far the most gruesome and violent endings of the whole series. I mean, they actually killed a Main character and others.

Did anyone understand what happened to the other characters? They were completely non-existant in this episode. Weird eh?

Oh yeah, by the way.

Sekai started all this, it's all her fault. I hate her, she was playing with everyones head, and she got what she deserved, thank god for Katsura for killing her.

I was expecting something like that to happen. This was just wierd romance. My first romance that ended like thins. Most of the ones i watch are happen ending ones and this was a just an anime that had 2 of the main characters die and some girl go really freaking crazy over a boy. Animes take love way to seriously. In real life things really dont happen like that.

I'd liken it more to Joker's pistol from Batman Beyond.

Ep 1-8: Sweet and innocent, yet menacing.
Ep 9: Loads gun and magazine.
Ep 10: Racks slide, deactivates safety, and aims.
Ep 11: Shoots, has a flag with bang on it, you feel relieved.
Ep 12: Fires the flag and kills you.

Sekai didnt play with every one's head. She didnt plan all of those things so that she could get close to makoto.

The thing is kotonaha is evil in her own way too. She accucsed sekai of being like a mastermind and planning all of those things in adavance so she ( sekai ) could get close to Makoto( Which she didnt ).

But Sekai didnt plan any of those things. Its true she overdid it with that " practice" session but she didnt really did it because she wanted to take makoto. And yes she didnt do it to help him. It was something of mixed. it started as helping him mixed with having feelings for him .

Also the person pushing to be with sekai (almost the whole series) was Makoto. Sekai even told makoto( couple of times) that Kotohana was his girlfriend but makoto didnt listen.

So if any one at fault its Makoto.

This show had a lot of potential, but somewhere around episode 9 it plunged downhill. The last few episodes were so artificial that I couldn't take the show seriously anymore.

It felt like the producers wanted to make Makoto sleep with all the girls in the show and then meet a gory end. This way the viewers get to see sex, fanservice and blood all at once. Sounds perfect doesn't it? There is just one "little" problem - a complete lack of logic and consistency in the show.

A good drama show (like Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien) achieves the level of drama by putting the characters into really difficult situations and having them make impossible decisions, where there is sometimes no right choice. School Days does exactly the opposite - it presents its characters with regular mundane problems, that I'm sure a lot of people in the real world face, and makes the characters act retarded. Seriously could anybody buy how all of a sudden all the girls wanted to sleep with Makoto?

Finally, I get to one of the hottest and most controversial topics regarding this show...the ending. It was...how should I put it mildly...extremely distasteful and disturbing. First of all...even though Makoto needed to be beaten up senseless and Sekai deserved a good slap on the face and a spanking, none of them really deserved to die. Things like this happen in real life and they can be resolved in a mature fashion. So, even though I know the viewers are intelligent and won't do anything stupid, I feel like I need to implore all girls who found their boyfriend cheating not to kill him. Just dump his sorry ass! It's really disturbing reading some comments how things like this should happen in real life.
Secondly, the amount of gore in both of the killings was not necessary. A simple stab in the stomach would carry the message, and it would actually have a bigger effect.
Finally, some of the scenes were really disturbing...like Kotonoha cutting Makoto's head off and putting it in a bag, or checking whether Sekai was really pregnant.

In conclusion, I would not really recommend this show to anyone. It's really illogical and inconsistent and the ending is downright disturbing. I'm glad it's finally over and I hope people will stop fussing about it soon (though this will probably be impossible, given the level of popularity it achieved). I'm just mad that the producers used so many cheap tricks (fanservice, gore) in order to appeal to the viewers, while the consistency of the show clearly suffered. If you want to watch a really good romance drama show, watch KGNE.

3/10(just for some good episodes in the middle of the show: 5-8)

I see that is alot of different scores around the table and it is one of those series that its going to be alot of different opinions and impressions. I think mines is different as well, so lets begins(wall of text, approved by Neki Ecko)

Animation Quality (1-10): Well you look at the animation, I swear its look like the OAV from the beginning of the game, but everything else is subpar, nothing will jump out and surprise or shock people about the animation but they did a good job on certain scene here and there but all of all, the animation is okay. (6.5 of 10)

Voice Actors (1-10): I think VA did a good job to characters' personalities. Makoto's VA was all well and good from his shy self at beginning to the very, Sekai's did a nice job on her emotions she had. Everybody else was so-so, you have some good performaces like Setsuna, Koto, and Kotoro and others was okay, but nothing really stand out to you when you listen to it. (6.5 of 10)

Script (1-10): Now this is going to be a tough one to graded because you have many things you have to think about it.
1) You have to compact all the story arc into 12 eps. I know that they have did all the story arc without compacting it, it will be like 26 - 30 eps even more, and that was going to make people not looking at it if was that long for this type of harem anime(I think they was following KGNE way)
2) I think because what happened with the Axe murder, they have to changed the script up, and in a way it was a blessing and a curse at the same tme. The curse was they have to take out some of the scenes (like if Sekai was carried a child of not, or if Setsuna got word that Sekai was killed) we will not know until DVD comes out or get liceased in the states but the blessing is will get to see a "Nice Boat" at the end.
But this is the first time they use a dark element when it comes down to Harem anime and they did a good job on that, it could been alittle bit better at the end but Makoto is dead and that is what everybody want to see(I dont mind see Otome and Makoto died too but they will get it one day) (8.5. of 10) (added 1.0 for the "Nice Boat")

Adaptation from Game (1-10): They did a good job adaptation from the game to the anime because if they adapted the whole entire thing, it will be like going into the Hentai levels, so they did a okay job on it (7.0 of 10)

Editing (1-10): I know that alot of people is complaining about the black blood but it was black blood or not see it at all and I say, we can look at all the red blood and "guts" on DVDs, I want to see it NOW. Besides that, Editing wasnt too bad (7.0 of 10)

Overall: This series was a rare series that pushes all the buttons and the limits of a person stupidity and trust (believe me, I think it was no trust at all) in this series, many people out there think that ending was way too out there but I have to say this, it actually happen in my hometown one time when I was younger except the girl didnt hang on his head. This series taught all of us a good lesson about relationship and trust the person you loved. This series has its faults and believe me, there was alot but at the end, its serves its purpose. This series is one of the best Dark Drama Anime this year and hopefully its open door for Dark Harem anime out come but not like this one. (9.0 of 10)

Well, the true mastermind should be Setsuna. But Sekai's "practice" lesson led to like a drug addiction for Makoto(which led to the 'Everyone's Makoto' episode). I liked it much better when Makoto was initially shy.....

Well Sekai did force the 'After Festival' dance on him, which directly led to Koto's rape. :(

Well Sekai did force the 'After Festival' dance on him, which directly led to Koto's rape. :(

Forced :eyebrow:? That wasnt how i saw it. It was something obvious for Makoto to do.

I remember almost during episodes 3 to 8, Makoto was dating Sekai. Remember they had few conversations about when they should tell Kotonaha and how Sekai was feeling guilty and saying it was wrong for her not to know and Makoto said " he would tell her later". So since they were going out , it was an obvious choice to dance with her.

Also even before the practice session, Sekai and Makoto were more friendly ( more like couples) with each other. As even Makoto said , " being with kotonaha was tiring while being with sekai was more relaxing".

Also you say that the practice session was like a drug adiction for him. Well Its true, but lets compare Kotonaha and sekai. Kotonaha had a better body figures than Sekai and she also told Makoto she could have sex with her, and what happend? Makoto still ignored her .

So If we compare the two female characters, Makoto liked sekai more. And one could say the only reason she went out with Kotonaha was because he felt super guilty about the horible things he had done to her.

For some reason i feel alot more sorry for Sekai than kotonaha, and i think most of the people would do the same if it wasnt because of episode 12. What sekai did was cruel. She snapped at the end. She was so calm and undrestading with Makoto for the whole series. I was so disappointed that it ended like that. If one thing about School days i didnt like was Sekai killing makoto. Although i still think what he did to her was super cruel.

Overal, the only real messed up person in the series was Makoto. He drove every one else Mad and brought upon others sadness and sorrow. First he abandoned Kotonaha and said she loved Sekai. Then after Sekai got pregnant he abandoned her. Although from the last episode it seemed to as though he didnt really wanted to abandon sekai and that the news of her being pregnant was just too suden for him.

So i dont think the main reason He abandoned Sekai was her being pregnant , and it was out of guilt. I think Makoto redeemed himself partially at the end. and there was his selfspeech about how he loved sekai and wanted to be close with her with a remorsing tone.

So i am going to stick with my theory that untill the very end , Makoto loved Sekai more than any one else and wanted to be with her.

P.S. Your are blaming Sekai for things she had nothing to do . Dont you think its kind of unfair ;) ?

Quality: 7/10
Seiyu: 9/10

I still don't get why it has to be se extreme in the end. makoto being such a coward makes me almost sick. now the word dickhead found its new king.
the price for a real love-sex story is quite high. in the end, the title is all about the past. and it's great to see how noone at the end of the last ep gives a damn about what happened. looks like the monthly horror found in the japanese times newspaper.

global: 6/10. it's all about makoto being, you know what :/

I think everyone is missing the implication that Kotonaha was pregnant and had an abortion. She recommended a “good doctor”. Latter, during the roof scene, she said how good he is and mentions that Sekai would have been able to see the baby on the monitor. This makes me believe that Kotonaha had been pregnant recently.

She also told Makoto that she wouldn’t be led astray again. I believe she was talking about the night of the festival when she chose someone else to have sex with because of her perceived loss of Makoto.

u got a point for kotonoha pregnant, but it could mean psychiatric help too. kotonoha looked out of her mind since makoto dumped her. and makoto wondered if sekai understood an abortion or psychiatric help when kotonoha mentionned seeing a "good doctor". sekai could have had a "false" pregnancy too (I don't know if it's the right expression)
kotonoha didn't get any better until makoto whispered some crap in her ears, so you might be right. but the characters often get different ideas from the same thing.

well, KGNE is great and nice show, but consistency? yea with Deus Ex Machina like Haruka suddenly turns out superhumanly strong willed and become the Saint Teresa of the show in the end. Yeah, Haruka's behavior in the end was kind of inconsistent, but it was much better then her going berserk and killing Takayuki and Mitsuki don't you think? Also, I think the writers wanted to create a lot of drama by choosing a lot of the wrong choices from the game and still have a "happy" ending. That desire created that inconsistency in Haruka's character. Nevertheless, I thought the finale was nicely done and realistic in the sense that Takayuki realized his mistakes and did the right thing in the end. Also realistic was the fact that the four main characters would never be the same friends as they used to be anymore - in those situations always somebody ends up being hurt.

And the nice girls falling for morons is a common inconsistency for harem anime including KGNE :p

I agree but the main harem characters have some good quality, like usually being considerate of the girls' feelings and overall being nice, whereas Makoto has none. I know "supposedly" he has good looks, but when Hikari and Otome's gang of skanks all decided to sleep with him out of the blue, I could not buy that anymore.

Overall, I'm not saying KGNE is a perfect show, but in terms of character development and execution it surpasses School Days by a lot.

Its hard to compare SD with KGNE given that the male leads act in a totally different manner - while one actually was able to redeem himself the other just totally lost that chance after the last, 5 or 6 chances
The hell did that come from? I really dont see how haruka's will to "survive" becomes a flaw in her character. As if inconsistancy is ment in a bad way then it means that haruka had no logic at all to form her own resolve? humans grow and learn to adapt, it's just that haruka realized that there wasn't any more use going after the guy who didnt seem to love her anymore. she has a brain and can think about the situation. what taka loved was the past haruka but seen as she has been out of it for the past 3 years it was time to move on. I dont find anything strange with haruka wanting to move on in her own rights and trying to become stronger, knowing her own weakness.

You got a point. I never thought about that. Makoto did say " Kotonaha wouldnt say something like that" to sekai. Kotonaha must have heard it when he was talking sekai on phone. Kotonaha didnt know about it untill then and we can assume that She went to a state of denial, Since she was pregnant ( from Taisuke) and started thinking that she had Makoto's baby and that Sekai couldnt have Makoto's baby, Because She was his girlfriend. I think she became jealous of Sekai for not being the one who have Makoto's baby.

Well, Saint Teresa is nice and kind and all good, but not everyone can become Saint Teresa. And although Makoto being a moron through and through, there are morons through and through in the real world, so my point is that, consistency-wise, KGNE and School Days are about equal for me ;) and a Deus Ex Machina does not mean a flaw in character at all, for example a Saint Teresa coming down to solve all the problems does not mean Saint Teresa's character is flawed :)

Also I don't see Takayuki redeem himself anyway, he still suffers his mortal flaws (complete indecision and mindless-ness), like always, just other characters' saintly characteristics pushed him to a happy ending.

Quality: 7/10

Nothing out of the ordinary, but nothing shoddy

Seiyu: 8/10

I thought it went well; there wasn't anything to complain about in this field after all.

Music: 9/10

Aside from an unmemorable opening, the use of inserts to build atmosphere and keep the atmosphere kept me watching much longer than I would've otherwise. A very powerful part of the anime.

Script: 4/10

Everything up to Episode 11 was groundbreakingly good. However, the script lacked involvement and sometimes decisiveness. Some lame lines spouted here and there pinged down the points.

Adaptation: 4/10

I have to say, if you watched this anime without playing the game as I have, you would've probably found the conclusion very messed up. It would probably be easier to bear with the end if you knew what was coming.

I personally think that trying to mix endings doesn't mean a good adaption.

However, it took a lot of aspects from the game, yet made sure it wasn't too much of the same, to give the viewers a twist to anticipate. The mixed signals was a good move from the animators. Its adaption was better than a direct follow-through of one storyline.

Editing: 6/10

Can't say it was good. Episode 5 in particular was a throw-off in terms of special effects (rather unnecessary "Oh yeah"s if I may say).

Ending 2/10

I'm sorry to say, but to end a series by a bout of irrational murders is not my idea of creating a good drama. This show could've ended perfectly without any deaths occurring. Also, to isolate the three from the rest of the cast in the last episode, what was the whole point of that? We get a story built around everyone, and suddenly they're irrelevant to the story in the conclusion?

Sounds like too much of an attempt to cater to the bloodthirsty demand of the fans, yet it's catering it to the point which shows how demoralising knowing how insensitive people are to death and murder (even rooting them on to kill each other). Sure I may have said I hope makoto would die once or twice, but that was in a semi-joking mood. Murder is not something to cheer for.

And most may agree, an ending like that would warrant a widescale purge of the anime in HDs from hooked turned spiteful viewers. Not an ending which people would want to buy, would they?

Emotional Involvement 8/10

The whole story got you involved really well; whether or not it was due to your support of his decisions, or your ability to recognise that you knew people who made mistakes like makoto. The flawed characters (hence their ordeal) was one of the winning points of this anime in my eyes.

Series rating (1-11) 8/10 . It really stretched our feelings about the stupidity of someone in puberty, yet wasn't unreal. It was so strikingly different and well done in execution up to 11 compared to the other serious animes this season.

Overall (1-12) 3/10 . The conclusion to the series destroyed whatever merits it gained. I definately would not think this is an anime worth mentioning or recommending to anyone else.

I found School Days to be a pretty good anime series...and a very unique one too.

Story - Episode one looked like this show was going to be a normal love anime about a couple having problems here and there...and right off the bat, in episode 2, we get the main male lead in this story, not wanting to be with the girl that he hooked up with in episode 1. As the episodes go more down the road, the more messed up this story becomes and the more girls in the school gets involved with this male character lead. Leading up to the breaking point in the last two episodes. The ending was pretty reasonable...everything from what happened to the beginning to end, came back to haunt these three friends at the end.

Music - Since this anime was an adaptation from a original computer visual novel game of the same name, the music was pretty much the highlight of this show. I liked the various ending theme songs and insert songs (which were pretty much the ending songs though) that were used in this show. Each of the songs matched up perfectly to whatever happened in each episode...whether it was sad or a happy thing, the ending song would tell all. The opening theme was also enjoyable...but experienced people who had played the game say that the original opening for the game beats the anime opening any day.:heh: The BGM used throughout the whole series was also enjoyable.

Seiyuu - They were alright. Same cast used to do the original game, but they're names are displayed differently from game credits to the anime credits. Although, Makoto's seiyuu sure did sound annoying most of the time due to his unstoppable whining, but he did a good job doing that though.:heh:

Animation - Not bad, though the ending episode had pretty good animation though compared to all the episodes in the series.

Overall - A very entertaining, yet this anime makes you angry at all the events that are happening to all the characters in this show. Especially to the three main lead characters. I felt like destroying my computer a couple of times all because of every episode becoming so messed up at the end, that it was almost becoming unbearable. The ending was crazy but it made sense as to how it all became that way though. Casual anime watchers may enjoy this, though the first episode is a deception to whats ahead in this show though. Hardcore anime watchers might also want to check this out, even though if you haven't played the game. Its pretty different from your normal harem/love/love triangle animes.

8/10

Darklord touched on so many good points about the School Days inner workings. I think the current arguments going on in the thread are differences in weather one took the anime seriously or not.

Looking over almost every post in the episode 12 thread and the overall series impressions, majority of the post are the same within each camp. The people who hated the series mainly point to the complete lack of direction or the cheap tricks used to try to keep the viewers attention. Episode 7 was when i noticed it was going downhill. The series managed to combine sex, drama and gore all in one, and i for one think that was the intention from the start. Make no mistake the writers knew what they doing with the direction it took. Do i think it sucked? HELL YES but i see their point of view. You would probably find more people who liked the series than hated it. This kind of series is so easy to do because you can get away with solving nothing while taking minimal effort with the ending. Honestly, the problems in School Days were not that bad KGNE problems were way more difficult and managed to keep the series interesting without relying on bloodshed and murder.

Comparing School Days to KGNE is just a travesty and school days is no where near the same level of quality that KGNE was. I think if you took School Days seriously then you were disappointed but if you were not looking to get anything out it then you were satisfied because you didnt invest anything into it.

Deathkillz I totally agree with you about Haurka in KGNE all the way

Hrm, maybe this is an impossibility at this point given the anime community here who tend to keep on top of things, the hype this series built up, and the whole incident with the delays and all, but I'm curious to see what people who have had absolutely no prior knowledge of the story whatsoever thought of it. (i.e. didn't read any spoilers or even any hints of even the type of endings that could've been possible, didn't follow the discussions here, and didn't pay too much attention to the final episode delay).

I gave it a one simply because this series was that: Painful.

Seriously, has there ever been a character made who amounted to a bigger pile of dog crap than Makoto? This guy gives all other Makoto's of the world a bad name. If I ever meet someone on the street named Makoto I'll probably punch him in the face.

Wouldn't that mean the series was "good" from a certain point of view since its characters managed to evoke such a strong reaction? Sure, the anime may have had other motives for doing so - simply to throw as much shock-value at the audience to provoke a reaction, but in the end those motives don't matter. They succeeded in making you hate the main character didn't they?

Besides, if you did that, you'd end up punching a whole lot of people - there are quite a lot of people who think and act the way he did, albeit not necessarily quite as extreme.

People get into multiple relationships and casual sex all the time in real life. Sad as it is, in reality, people do get raped daily, pregnant teenage mothers are abandoned daily, irresponsible immature brats get off scot-free all the time, and people do kill others daily. Obviously the anime simplified the psychology of it all, but isolated instances of all of the above occurs all the time. Life IS that messed up for many many people, and there are many HS boys who are as irresponsible as Makoto. It's just pure luck that they don't create consequences as extreme since most people don't behave the way the girls do in the anime.

This ending was qite unexpected for me because I thaught that it would end in the same old school love way. But this ending was perfect. Well a little bit bloody for the protagonists but perfect.

In my opinion the whole anime should recive a high ranking.

Oh! and about my ranking:

Seiyu: 8/10
Script: 6/10

A statement i have to agree :)

Seriously though - whoever expected the series to be "serious" and to touch upon a more serious and deeper relationship/issues that is present in KGNE would be heavily disappointed that all they got was a cop-out (hence where the "its a waste of my time" came from). Though school days was never ment to be a serious or deep series i tend to look at it as if it were some parody of all those "happily ever after" harem series out there that shouldnt have been due to a fcked up male lead who never gets their just desserts >.>

It isnt everyday you see such killings which is what makes this series so special (or maybe turn people off because they never got the ending they expected - ie for makoto to pick either kotonoha or sekai). But really now...does a bastard like him deserve anyone?

Indeed I used to take this series seriously because it showed some potential in the earlier and middle episodes but somewhere around episode 8 I couldn't take it seriously anymore. If I don't look at it as a serious romance drama show, there is nothing more to it that is worth watching. The characters are not likable, the plot is forced and illogical and there was almost no comedy at all. You say it is a parody, but parodies are supposed to be funny. Maybe some people found it funny, simply because of how ridiculous it was at times, but this is not the kind of humor I was talking about.

Also, you mention those "happily ever after" endings of harem shows. I do not think any of those endings is in the "everybody lived happily ever after" category. Usually the characters have changed and matured and there is always someone who does not end up happy. Also, I'm probably misunderstanding you but I hope you are not suggesting that all male leads deserve Makoto's fate. It's true that most(not all) harem male leads are weak and indecisive throughout the show, but in the end they usually grow up and redeem themselves in a way. I never thought any other harem show had an inconsistent ending - having the guy remain a weak-willed jerk until the end and ending up with no one(like I think you are suggesting) would ruin the purpose of the show. For me this purpose is to show the character make mistakes and learn from them and become a better man in the end.

Even Takayuki, who I considered the lowest of the low before seeing Makoto managed to grow up and make the right choice in the end. This might not erase his past mistakes but it is certainly a step in the right direction.

This series was... lame. The best word I can use to describe it is roadkill. You can't look away even when you want to; at least that was the case with me. Oh, it was a trainwreck all right... one massive trainwreck.

The major problem I had with this series was the characterization/characters, and I hold that aspect to high regard when judging anime. Why were they so stupid and annoying? It wasn't just because of that. It seemed as if the scriptors/writers intentially made them do stupid things just for the shock factor. Episode 11, anyone? Why the hell would all those girls, even when they already have love interests/boyfriends, all sleep with Makoto? That is not away to development character; if anything, it's making them out of character. This aspect gets a 1/10 from me.

Next, the plot. Wow, can you say crazy? And not in the good sense either. I admit, the execution of the plot was pretty well done, but why? Again, ep. 11! It made no sense and came out of nowhere.

The other aspects, such as music, art, sakuga, etc. were average. Nothing to extradinary.

Overall, I gave this a 6/10, mainly because of the last episode. It it hadn't for that, this anime a 3 or 4.

Overall I thought it was pretty good for a love polygon anime. Even though the main char. Makoto was a real dense dude at knowing how a girl reacts at certain things. And the way the anime ended was a bit different than wut I anticipated which is better, even though I wanted Makoto to realize he was acting like a jerk and stuff. The way Kotonaha revealed that Sekai was alluring Makoto and stuff with all that info including Kiyora's affection, etc.

Btw, reading the previous posts (not all) since when did Kotonaha get pregnant? That wasn't in the anime.

A parody does not necessarily mean something that ends up being comedy or "fun" you know. In this case the parody cause by this series can also be called a "piss take" for other harem series out there. However, even so i do not think that this series is as badly thought out as you or others think.

Logic is quite a weird word to use to describe this series. On one hand you could say that there is absolutely no logic for the character to have did what they did (ie sekai offering makoto that "special" sex training or even why everyone likes makoto in the first place) - but on the other hand i see that this is just as being the case. In real life there isnt always times (when it comes to relationships) where logic plays a big part. I have seen plenty of girls dating guys who are clearly mistreating them yet they continue to swarm over them like bees over honey (maybe they like a rough relationship ).

This series is based more of realism just like KGNE and while parts may have been exaggerated to the extreme parts of relationships (4 some playboy makoto anyone?) i dont see this as being impossible - well maybe not a 4 some but for guys to be sleeping around (girls as well but here people like that usually stick together anyway ).

forced plot? how is it forced? i thought it went quite smoothly :P (for makoto anyway).

Also, you mention those "happily ever after" endings of harem shows. I do not think any of those endings is in the "everybody lived happily ever after" category. Usually the characters have changed and matured and there is always someone who does not end up happy.
Yep but ofc the "dump girls" are left to lick their wounds but on the whole most harem series are either open ended or conclusive to the point where the surrounding girls accept the current relationship with the lead male and chosen girl. what i am trying to say here is that on the whole most harem series that do conclude have girls who are satisfied with the relationship and of the leads will be happy.

Indecisive and dumb ass characters are plentiful and they do usually mature though i still dislike the "crimes" they commit before they get to that later stage where they realize where their feelings lie. I generally just think that male leads like that should be taught a lesson before they are allowed to love anyone :p (oh just look at poor kaede who had a mental breakdown but does rin give a fck?)

Also, I'm probably misunderstanding you but I hope you are not suggesting that all male leads deserve Makoto's fate. It's true that most(not all) harem male leads are weak and indecisive throughout the show, but in the end they usually grow up and redeem themselves in a way. Nope never, makoto is an exception for the "ZOMG YOU MUST DIE NOW RULE!" due to his attitude of *insert insult here*

he has never matured and never will but death is an easy way out for him

I too never wish for a guy to never end up with anyone but what i am saying here is that guys who do wrong should be punished or at least apologize to the girls that they have hurt. Too many times where i see a guy never giving a "sorry" to anyone and continue with their love interest. while the girls might not mind i just feel that it is unfair that they had to go through all those emotional traumas cause by the guy's indecisiveness (which is usually the case) without receiving a "sorry" or something along those lines. It is also common for male characters to not tell the other girls straight out that the "love X character".

takayuki is a man for facing haruka and i respect him for that ;)

Doesn't anyone pity kotonoha at all? Thoughout the series, except the first 2 or 3 episodes, she's been constantly bullied, shoved aside by makoto and cheated on. The hope that she placed on Makoto was only answered by disappointment every single time. And yet she waited on and endured the mental torture other girls gave her... only for the slightest chance that Makoto would come back to her again. What makes it more sad is she knew what was happening, she knew she waited in vain. It broke her heart, but she kept on waiting. What girl in real life would ever do that for a boy? Girls would have slapped him and moved on. Telling everyone who would listen what a bastard he was. Kotonoha's love was the purest and yet the most unanswered. She was, imo, the most "normal" character in the whole series before he had sex with *forgot his name* boy. For what I saw she was a sign of purity, she was uncontaminated by lust. She had a dignity which seperated her with the other sluts. And yet it was somehow degrading when she said she wanted to fulfil makoto's desires. But then this is an anime... it's the whole fantasy world for boys... girls all at their feet begging for "love".

Sekai is a bitch. There's no worse crime than stealing another person's lover, especially when that person thinks that she was her friend. It's disturbing how she can go on having sex with Makoto and not feel a heavy load of guilt. She thought by seducing Makoto that she could have him forever? Only the most naive and empty-headed girl would think such a relationship would last and expect the lover would take responsiblity. Or was she just another horny bitch with illusions of a perfect lover? She deserved her ending.

Makoto is another bastard that only thinks with his dick. Though near the end I was truely wishing that he had repented and would stick with kotonoha. I'm not saying that he deserved his fate. If he hadn't died, he might really have repented.

As for the baby, I don't think sekai had one at all. At the end when kotonoha tore her apart, she said that there was no one there. Considering that if she wasn't in her ideal world. Her judgement would have been correct. That leads me to think if only Sekai went to the hospital to check if she was really pregnant. (they didn't really say abortion in the text message did they?) If she found out she wasn't, the ending would have been much happier. It wouldn't have been like "take responsibility for your child or imma stick knives in your guts". She probably didn't go because she really wanted to believe that she was pregnant and was in the illusion that Makoto would take care of her and they would be together. She was probably getting desperate since her relationship with Makoto still isn't stable for all that she's done for him. (Yar bitch you're just another smex toy for makoto.)

This anime made me think again about the contamination in this world. If only people didn't lust for sex... If only boys would stop dating girls just because they want their body... If only the girls had more dignity to keep their clothes on... If only boys weren't so greedy for more...this world would be so much better.
Is a harem really a good thing? Look what happened to Makoto and think again. Toying with girls can kill.

Love Deathkillz's summary of the characters.

I had to refrain on voting as I don't think the way I watched it gives me correct insight to this errrmm memorable series. The reason why is no other anime has been able to stop me dead from watching it from absolute hate for a character. I hated Makoto so much from epi 4 that I stopped I just couldn't carry on. But when I found out the ending I was able to watch it but I did it backwards from 12 to 4 :p

This series scores top points for invoking an emotional response from me, but boggle me I never thought I could have such feelings of hate for a character.

Like lijon I have to agree about Kotonoha, I did feel sorry for her. Between *beep* monkey boy, Sekai and the bully girls its no wonder she snapped.

School days is a dark dark universe not just the main characters, but the school itself is so dark too (the hidden video scene was just too *boggle*)

I didn't personally think that the seiyus were outstanding, but they didn't do a bad job. Makoto did sound annoying, which is a good thing. Setsuna and Kokoro were also quite distinct, in their respective ways.

I think School Days is around a 7, not outstandingly breathtaking, but worth taking a look at, and not just for the controversial ending either.

Fantastic trainwreck. If it manages to fool you into thinking it's an innocent anime, it catches you off guard and starts a tragic spiral. You can clearly start to see where problems are gonna happen, but you just have to keep watching to see what will happen. With morbid fascination, you see more and more people get pulled into the mess, until everyone's involved and those deepest in have no clear way out.

A few people have complained that the ending is contrived, or even that the whole series is flawed and unrealistic. However, I think the story gives us a "Perfect Storm," in terms of just the wrong people making just the wrong moves at just the wrong time. No one acts as a voice of reason, everyone is flawed, and every individual action just makes things worse. The ending really was good becuase it took this to its logical end. Simply put, nothing more can go wrong after that end.

Still, my rating was...
8/10

Why so high? It was a good trainwreck, the music was awesome, it was unexpected, it was different for the genre, and it was emotionally intense.

Why so low? Although the series was good, and memorable, there were a few issues I had from a direction point of view. Too many fanservicey shots of the girls really bothered me, for some reason.

I'd have to say that I got into School Days because of the ending. However, once the story went into full motion after episode 3 or so, I started to forget about watching it for the violence and I actively enjoyed the show. Very, very different than usual high school romance anime. Makoto's character was ironed out so well that I've actually come to deeply loathe him, and Sekai's hypocrisy is obvious it seeps out of her pores. Kotonoha of course was the most pitiful character, but apparently the game depicts her in her own negative light as well, so I guess the writers wanted to give her some justice by the end.

As for the ending?

Okay, the bloodbaths were admittedly fun to watch - on their own. But things didn't exactly seem to wrap up as I wanted them to. I can't explain it, but I suppose I didn't want Makoto to die after all. He was an insensitive jerk who desperately needed to live with this fact. He probably came near to realizing that for a moment when the other girls blocked him. Even more than the violence, I wanted Sekai and Kotonoha to abandon him completely, because there was just no way he would change. Sure, he claims to repent, and that he knows how selfish he is. But that doesn't mean he would change, and in honesty I don't believe him.

It's ironic, I got into School Days because I wanted to see some blood, but I actually enjoyed the show than I did the killings. I don't think Makoto and Sekai should have died; it kinda lets them off too lightly.

Overall, 7/10 perhaps, though I'm bad with simple ratings like this, so it's probably not an accurate evaluation. It was a good story with a good message I think, but got rather crazy at the end and didn't seem to bring justice to each of the three main characters.

I started watching School Days at ep 6 and that was around the point everything went downhill.

Every episode I watched, I rolled eyes and cursed Makoto for his actions, and sympathized the girls who got toss around by him and went through hell because of their feelings for him.

That went all the way to the end, which was hinted to a nasty end. The fanservice throughout and shock value of the ending which the producers went for left me disappointed. The show could have gone so many different ways, yet the people behind it went for the easy way out IMO.

That had been awhile ago. My opinion's been slightly changed by the music of the series. At first it was simply something that sounded good to my ears but as I got to understand the songs, it became much more enlightening. Each song told a story of a character, keeping in touch with the show so much, it is a first time for me.

Anata ga..Inai conveyed Kotonoha's feelings as she went on. Usotsuki and Namida no Riyuu sang out Sekai's heart at different points. Let Me Love You had all of Sekai's joy and fulfillment packed into it. Kanashimi no Mukou he was a requiem to the love lost between Sekai and Makoto when that fateful moment happened.

Now I feel sadness and acceptance for what has transpired. Putting everything else aside, it is truly sad for all involved in the love triangle. It's funny how a few songs managed to change my opinion of the show like that.

Overall, I'll give a 7/10 for the show.

The character change taken place between the main characters were really dramatic. So dramatic that it seems impossible and inane. The gruesome end showed a disgusting angle of the stomach cut open.which is still engraved in my mind....:upset:

After the 6th episode or so, I wanted to stop watching because the nature of the anime didn't suit me well...

This anime was awesome though because no other anime had me feel so awkward ever before. For some reason, I liked the awkward feeling.

Well that kind describes how i got into it, I just recently finished the whole series of in one sittings after pretty much being disappointed with this seasons assortment of anime. I got into because of the little bit of info i got when Higarishi was post-poned and in the article on animesource.com they said this show was also being censored for its last episode. I gave it no real thought and continued on until about a few days ago when i was just utterly depressed about loosing all my shows, claymore, Seto No Hanayome, GL etc... long story short remembered about school days and dled it.

Wasn't expecting much, yet i came away with a really good impression of the show. Everything here seemed to be something that every other romance just skirts around or never attempts to play out. Never seen relationships in anime become centralized by the theme of sex (no serious dramatic anime that is). And the truth is, in real life that becomes a real issue with couples. Whether that is wrong or right is up for debate but it shows sex as some what of an deterrent for happiness rather than the usual sex is the epitome of love and happiness.

Now they really over use betrayl in my opinion, especially with the revolving door Makoto was having at one point. And I really didn't grasp the point or the believability factor of so many girls actually falling for makoto. It was like he had the midas touch.... instead of gold he got *****, speaking of which ****** seems to be declining in value these days.... :uhoh:. (im glad there was no female teachers, because im sure they would have been giving him home visits like the rest of the girls.) I do see how he can get trapped in that loop thought. It starts off as wanting to fulfill his urge albeit it in the absolutely wrong way, but once the ball started to roll down hill it was over.

Then you have the girls aspect. Sekai whether by design or by pure stupidity put herself in the position of giving Makoto what he wanted without making him ever taking responsibility for the situation. She admitted later by saying she "endured it and let makota do whatever he wanted" to me that just showed how desperate she became. As for Kotonoha her life was just empty without having friends or what seem like society as whole was ignoring her. Until Sekai made her realize that Makota was some one who excepted her, but by that time Sekai had already betrayed Kotonoha and was in Makoto's heart. I do believe her clingy-ness because I have had experienced this at the end of past relationship with several ex-gf's ; even when things was not going right refused to except the facts clearly in front of them.

In the end it ended kind of what you would expect from such a tragic story. Some times the next progressive step of a a falling object is to be destroyed once it hits the ground. Or like a firecracker to explode once it hits the absolute top. It got to the point where Makoto became these two girls life above and beyond everything else. No setsuna for Sekai and an debatable (did it exsist, I think it is possible that she wasn't pregnant) unwanted baby, and Makoto right in front of her choosing some one else. I thought that was kind of poetic how Sekai slapped Kotonoha and pretty much said the same thing that Kotonoha said like half a series before. Kotonoha had nothing to begin with and for a second thought she grabbed onto salvation only to have it ripped from her not once but twice.:upset:

In the end i think Sekai became just as crazy as Kotonoha so for her to lash out like that doesn't surprise me or upset me as it seemed to do to most detractors.

I gave the series a 9 because it was just refreshing to me. The lust that other romances could have atleast implemented a small bit of i.e. A!MS, Love hina etc... and the epic tragedy of shows like KGNE which i disagree with everyone it ended badly, wrong girl was chosen

Just was everything I wasn't expecting... and now im back to this horrible selection of fall anime...:(

I've watched so many other harem shows where the fans are like "Hey, if all these girls are after you, why not have your way with them? You know they want to!" School Days is what would happen if harem heroes really did go with their deepest desires. Some might say the ending was a bit over the top, but I just read a story on Mainichi Daily where a woman in Japan chopped up her best friend and took a shower on top of the bits for 2 weeks before throwing them away, just because her man chose her friend instead of her... let me see if I can find it (LATER) so the truth is stranger than fiction. After watching/reading annoying love triangles like KGNE and Ichigo 100%, School Days was a breath of fresh air. 8/10

lol the second half of this show was hillus. i'd recommend to anyone watching this show not to watch the last episode and use your imagination to create an ending.

because people on these forums often don't bother to use spoiler tags, i had read that this show had a ridiculous, crazy, dramatic ending from multiple posts, so even before i started watching it i had guessed that the ending would have death/killing. i was surprised by who did the killing, atleast the first one, but i still kind of knew one was coming. throughout watching the show i thought that the fact that i thought i knew what the ending would be like would ruin the show for me, but it may've ended up heightening my experience of the show because i was prepared for such a ridiculous end.
guess i'll never really know which way would've made me enjoy the show more : /

I did not play the game before watching the anime. And I was expecting an anime that was similar to any romance anime. What really made me think was how the anime could've gone "the other way". Instead of the anime being filled with jealousy, sex, and a murder at the end, I wondered how it would've been without those things.

Anyone would say that one or two of the characters were gonna get done in, no doubt in their minds as the story flowed along.

But nevertheless, anime like School Days are like almost a wake-up call for me. Not all anime have dancing bunnies and happy endings. But I sure wouldn't like seeing myself in any of those positions.
I give the anime a 9.5 outta 10.

I begun watching this series right before the last episode. I heard all about the bloody endings in the game and I thought, 'I hope they don't do one of those'. When I finished watching all the episodes that were already out I still wanted a happy ending. I kind of enjoyed Seki and the main guy (forgot his name already) together, but I knew deep down this needed a bad ending.

The whole plot to this anime is love and relationships during high school and thats exactly what it is. Although to an extreme level, of course, but thats needed to make a strong impression. Girls fell madly in love with a boy in a matter of moments and for a lot of guys, all relationships are for is the sex. When the guy can't get enough from one girl, he branches out, not caring nor paying attention to thos he hurts in the process. Many girls stay in state of denial about what's happening and go "mad" because of their "love".

I think this anime masterly depicts what its like to be a teenager "in love" nowadays, just too an extreme point.

I've played the game and I was totally expecting what was coming...but still

I WANT MY HAPPY ENDING GOD DAMN IT. Even if Makoto karma finally caught up with Makoto (if only it got to Takayuki from KgNE). I like my endings happy, with bunnies and rainbows. Especially when I'm not the one dictating the endings. When I get the bad endings in the game I'm like yeah, totally deserved. But this was different, even if Makoto was a total dick.

Still enjoyed it thoroughly though :D

Well, it didn't take much time to watch, did it in two runs. Basicly I hated every major character except Sekai (NO! DON'T use the FLAMETHROWERS! IT Buuuurns! Buuuuurns!), which is why I was extremely sad when what happened happened to her.

Otherwise, yeah, waste of time.

The first few episodes showed some potential. Then it all went to hell in a handbasket. A little conflict is all fine and dandy in a romance situation, but dear god almighty, going the Melrose Place sleep-with-everyone-and-their-mother route is a tad overkill. I will admit, it did well in stirring dislike for Makoto, as the only moment I found worthwhile was watching him get a little ventilated. I want those hours back :(

Finally a change!

Not the best in execution, but this was my answer to all of those anime with weak, inane, sap-filled, or otherwise unsatisfying endings. I've seen far too many shows, harem or otherwise that paint the "happily ever after" picture or they hit the world with a reset (I'm looking at a certain Sunrise franchise). This show went where most other harem shows have never gone before. I hope to see more dark harem, hell, dark drama shows. They don't even need a guro ending, just... something darker. I was looking for a sort of Pyrrhic victory ending in that Sunrise show, instead, a cop out (I'm sure you know what I'm referring to).

I actually had the ending of the anime spoiled before I even started watching it, but I was already aware of the (in)famous endings from the game. I think knowing that it would trainwreck in the end made me like the show even more, it really heightened my anticipation. Every episode, whenever Makoto screwed up or when the shit started hitting the fan, I became excited. I think watching it a single sitting like I did made the experience even better.

I don't think Makoto is much of an exaggeration of a lustful teenager. Sure he's exceedingly stupid, but he very well represents a hormone-driven, carnal-minded teenager. I know most of you have seen guys who act like this in real life. I actually liked Makoto, without him it would be harder to cook up the drama. He got his in the end, but I really did pity him, even if almost everything was his own damn fault.

The ending... so much tension. It was over the top, it was satisfying, it was also very hilarious.

I can't really give this a solid numeric rating (I feel those are pretty arbitrary anyway). I'll just say that it was a fun ride. The end was bumpy, but it still good.

At least you can say there was a moral to this story: Don't fuck around.

Clannad? I liked it better when it was called Kanon. ;)

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Ahem-

Yes. Well... I'm not into high school romances unless comedy is involved. I, myself have seen Lov**Com and read W Juliet, so this was a change. The overall anime and voice-acting was good. I thought the story was interesting, but didn't expect Makoto to get out of hand. So, I proceeded to watch the last two episodes and...OMGWTF!!!!!!!
Uh,... Yeah.
Actually, this is how real it gets in Japan. Or for that matter, anywhere else with a modern social population. And having said that I'd like to invite you to check out some of the stories from the newspapers in Japan. They are no different.

I would have to say it was a waste of time for me, the first 4 episodes were fine just a guy who liked this girl but had no balls to ask her or talk to her, to be honest i thought up to then it was very well done which an array of characters and very good animation skills + voice acting, but when it changed to this guy from geek to playboy starts having sex with like 8 girls its unbelievable how this happens, after that the rest of the anime felt a daze to me, the next episodes were boring and kinda annoying, i have to say the story is quite original but other than that there is no more good points, i don't know how they started a normal looking anime into this, which is totally messed up. no girl would go from that happy to killing mode so fast its so unrealistic and frustrating to watch.
+ points would have to go on the voice acting and the animation style
- points too many to name

Whew, School Days was quite a wake-up call. Although I do agree there were quite a few parts that went over-the-top, some of the insanity that went on at the last episode actually seemed somewhat reasonable to me, as twisted as that may seem.

I’m really surprised with how Makoto progressed through the anime. His immaturity and irresponsibility didn’t come out too much in the first few episodes of the series, but I guess people have their own kinds of personal curtains and triggers to their true personality. An example of such a trigger is how the whole “practice” touching instance with Sekai ended up stimulating Makoto’s inner desire aspect. I guess Makoto’s inner desire eventually became so unregulated in his conscious that he eventually lost all self-control to his desire for sex.

There is no doubt that Sekai unconsciously made several of mistakes that screwed herself and Makoto up, but I guess that’s how blinding sexual craving can be sometimes, especially when being “taught” (mainly towards Makoto’s case) that touching someone who you aren’t really *with* is “perfectly okay”.

Kotonoha herself is partially responsible for how things ended up with her own weakness. Even when it becomes blatantly obvious that Makoto has been cheating and even when Makoto himself tells her that he is no longer interested in her, Kotonoha remains blindly loyal to Sekai and ultimately ends up refusing to face reality. I find that last point a very dangerous trait in a human being, which is partially what made everything slightly reasonable to me when Kotonoha snapped at the end.

Sekai is probably one of the most confusing characters I’ve ever come across. Things about her just didn’t add up too much. From playing matchmaker between two different people and the same guy and then falling for that same exact guy herself is something I can’t understand. I guess her character flaw would be something similar to ignorance and a lack of consideration towards others, but then again, the lack of consideration is something that can be held constant for much of School Days’ characters. Having lied to herself about her pregnancy without actually confirming it is also something I can’t seem to get, along with the fact that she still wanted Makoto even then, despite everything he’s done.

So the lack of consideration, irresponsibility, and outright insanity goes full circle. Even though Kotonoha seems to be some kind of twisted “winner”, her final state seems as lifeless as the two other people who seemed to have died.

I gave the anime a 9 for how unexpectedly twisted it turned out. Despite how messed up it is to do that to people, reality is twisted like that, too, at times. I thoroughly enjoyed this anime despite some issues, and now I’m definitely, never going to cheat on a quiet, timid girlfriend. :heh:

Yesterday, I concluded the last episode to School Days TV anime, and now I'll be posting my last thoughts for the show.

It was about one year and a half to two years ago when I saw some pics of the School Days game, posted by someone at the AnimeSuki forums.

The pics pulled out an eye-popper on me, since the animation and visual design on those pics was top-notch.

The following months later I spent researching on the anime title for those pics, until I came with School Days. I read about it at wiki, and what caught my eye on the title were the spoilers about the infamous twisted endings in the game.

Not much time passed, until I started researching for the School Days animation clips at YouTube, and watching those bloody ends got me all hyped.

Then, on the last quarter of 2006 the anime TV series was announced.

The anime started as a seemingly innocent dating title, that I have no doubts it was reeking or screaming for harem.

But the twist about the male lead change the overall scope and tone of the series, that would inevitably lead to the twisted and fatal conclusion that bloodied the screen with hacked corpses and psychosis.

There is nothing plainly good about Makoto. He was a selfish, irresponsible bastard who only thought about quenching his urges and to satisfy his curiosity.

It's natural for a boy to be "healthy" for girls during his teen years, but Makoto's curiosity turned into an obsession, and a murky one at that.

A guy so insensible about a girl's feelings, that he only wanted to have his way and lay off with all the females his lustful eyes could pry upon, and he did. He slept with almost all of the female characters introduced in the show, save for Akane and Kotonoha at the end.

And what an irony that Kotonoha, the target of Makoto's initial obsession and lastly becoming his love interest too late by the end, was the only girl who never had the chance to sleep with Makoto, in despite of getting discarded like a used doll during the middle course of the story, and coming back from a eerily psychotic mind-state.

If you ask me, I think that Setsuna is likely the main heroine of the show. She stood for Sekai, though she was very well awared about her feelings for Makoto. She made every attempt to grow sense and dedication on Makoto to look after Sekai, but too bad that she moved in overseas in the 11th episode.

If they plan to produce an anime adaptation of Summer Days, definitely, Setsuna is going to be the female main lead. I say this because I read that in the Summer Days game she's the main protagonist.

Anyways, it was nice ride made memorable by the infamous twisted, last episode.

The twisted finale would had worked even better if they had pulled out all the games' bad endings + plus one more.

1. Sekai killing Makoto out of spite for his selfishness: Done.

2. Kotonoha killing Sekai to pay her back for murdering Makoto: Done.

3. Kotonoha aboard the yacht sailing adrift while she hugs Makoto's severed head: It would have been more twisted if she had jumped into sea with the head in her arms, in order to pay parallel homage to her suiciding in one of the game's twisted endings.

4. The wife ending from the game. Setsuna returning to Japan several months later only to find out with horror that Sekai and Makoto are long gone and deceased, bearing Makoto's soon-to-be-borned-baby.

Ok. This was the fourth title I finished for the summer season.

Wake up call? That's very true, until the very end. How ironic is that? Not at all. The whole plot was very nice and complicated, and that was really the wake up call for me. I think the ending was just overdoing the wake up call. This was a nice anime. Makoto as the worst character of 2007? Not by far. He is one of the best, because we hated him, I hated him, but he is still one of the best.

School Days did well at portraying something unread as being real. I've been in a lot of cultures, and girls don't act like that. To me, it's not a realistic portrayal of life, but rather, it's a wake up call on what could happen when human emotions clashed to the extreme. However, this can be said of most romance anime; I just wanted to point out that to me, School Days isn't any more realistic as the typical romance/drama.

Of course not all anime have to end up happy and jolly, and School Days is not a good example of it. IMO there are better ones such as KgNE, CCS, and SaiKano that I consider masterpieces, and those by far doesn't end happily. School Days just went to far.

However, it did its job. The majority of the audience "liked" the School Days ending because they hated Makoto. What exactly is the point of the anime? It was to show a teen who's very promiscuous and to convince us to take sides on which girl is right/fair. Since Makoto ditches every girl, everyone will be mad at him for ditching the girl they support, and this Makoto is hated. That's why in my eyes, the anime succeeded plot-wise. This isn't an anime to make people fall in love with Makoto. It's an anime to make people hate Makoto then kills him off, to satisfy the audience.

So far do I like School Days or not? All I can say was that it wasn't a waste of my time, and I loved most of it except for the ending, which is still justified in my eyes because if Makoto didn't die off, then what's there to like about School Days? There's a guy who everyone hates and he ends up getting a girl? That just doesn't seem like the right ending to me. I went into episode 12 knowing that they have to 1) do something amazing to pull off a nice ending (I've been in this situation with KgNE and Canvas 2 and they both pulled it off) or 2) kill off Makoto (it wasn't a surprise, trust me, since it was all over the general thread before the ban of speaking about game-related spoilers) and make everyone satisfied. I was expecting for option number one so it all comes down to taste.

Spoiler tags? The thread is called Overall Series Impressions & Total Series Rating, not Read here for a synopsis to decide whether or not you want to watch the series. Sorry but it's just very weird to have spoiler tags in a thread that discusses the series as a whole after it ended....

Just finished the freaking anime and you dont know how freaking upset and emotional I am...I watched the whole series today and I was NOT expecting any of this when I decided to download and watch this anime. I was hoping for a romance/comedy triangle relationship and it was going that way, at least the couple of episodes.
It all changed when Sekai to put herself out there, use herself as an experiment for Makoto's needs, WTF THAT PISSED ME OFF TOO, when Makoto and Kotonoha was going out. I knew the tides would turn at that point and instantly it did, instead of that gradual change in feelings I thought would happen. Neglecting and pushing aside Kotonoha just because Sekai was willing to put out really pissed me off, lust over love at that point was what was in my head. But that wasnt enough for that a$$hole(from now on, I refuse to use his name in this post, any offensive name calling I apologize ahead of hand and is meant to target the male lead), he had to go and screw Otome, Hikari(which I depise seeing them together...), Setsuna and those 3 bltches that mistreat Kotonoha thoroughout the manga which I was freaking hoping they get pregnant.

The 3 Leading Characters :
Matoko - I didnt start to depise him until the time they reach the pool date. Thats when he first started to neglect and avoid Kotonoha because of her unwillingness to have sex and get intimate with him. What really made me despise him was what happen in episode 10, where he finally stood up and told Kotonoha how he doesnt like her anymore. He freaking spread threw oil on her burns and made it worst. Then having sex with all these other girls, what a despicable guy. Should have seen how upset I was after that episode, I went to get food after that episode and I was so emotional that I almost cried while making my order at Wendy's. I was thinking about the anime the whole drive and whole time, couldnt take my mind off it. I was hoping he would die ever since episode 9 for having sex with Otome. Oh, thats right, there was something I liked about him. The blood that gushed out was black, so I was really happy it was portrayed in the color red. Im not sure if it was done purposing or not, but to me, while the blood gushed out, I was thinking hahaha, thats what you get cunt.
Sekai - I found her actions quite intriguing, especially the first episode, definitely attracted my attention. I understand the actions she took thorought the manga and I pity her the second most in the whole anime. Being the arbitrator in the Kotonoha and Matoko's relationship, helping both sides get along better. It was pretty obvious from the first episode though that she had feelings for Motoko and didnt wanna get in the way since Motoko didnt have feelings for her at the time. What I didnt like about her character was her willingness to let Matoko take advantage of her, no matter how much he says he likes her, all he ever did was use her sex. Each they time are together, Matoko is either thinking of having sex with her or feeling her up. What made it worst was when her best friend suddenly leaving her side without a proper goodbye, having feelings for the same guy and realizing what she did to cause all of this. I am glad for felt a bit of remorse unlike the douchebag.
Kotonoha - She was the character I felt most mistreated in the whole manga. She didnt have any friends in school, the guy she likes cheated on her REPEATEDLY, her classmates take advantage/tease/use her on a daily basis and her only friend that got to know her is her rival in love. Then seeing the woman she trusts the most leaving the apartment of the guy she is in love with to finding out that the man she likes doesnt like her anymore and going into a state of shock/insanity will pissed me off(not at her, but at the nlgga that caused it). Finally able to recover a bit after seeing Matoko again, gets a second confrontation with Sekai and falling short to being with the guy she likes again. I am happy though that they didnt end up together.

Almost every girl that had feelings for the "jerk", I felt pity for, not as much as some, but definitely felt a bit of pity.

Characters, other than the 3 main leads :
Otome - I cant believe she would be satisfy with just being a sexfriend. When they first got together, I thought it would be a one time thing. To piss me off more, they did it mulitple times and Sekai even found out.
Setsune - The most unselfish character in the whole anime and the one I respect the most. Willingly giving up oneself to help fullfil the dream of her bestfriend. Giving up sitting next to the one she liked to her bestfriend and not once not twice but mutiple times supporting Sekai.
Hikari - I really liked her character when she was first portrayed but of course the anime had to turn into a freaking sIut. How the fcuk can you go and have sex with one of your closest friends guy, KNOWING there relationship and stating you liked another guy as well...Really despised her towards the end of the anime.
The 3 Witches - I dont know there names but they irritated me thorought the whole anime since they where first shown. Each time I see them teasing and making fun of Kotonoha, I would freaking get pissed and wanna hit them(AND I DONT HIT GIRLS!), especially the one that decided to pull that stunt of recording the sex scenes in the rest area, just pissed me off. Exposing Nanami(had to go back and look for her name since I felt bad for her too) to girls of what she did with her boyfriend.

Ending, I cant really say I liked the ending. I am glad though that that "twat" died but seriously depressed about how badly Kotonoha and Sekai was mistreated thoroughout the manga because of the actions of a single idiot. Then having to suffer such consequences because of the lack of common sense the BAKA had. I felt it lacked closure for the other characters but I guess it cant be helped after such an event in the end. Now to the main dispute, was Sekai really pregnant or was she faking it to get the attention of Matoko?

I would have to state that, like the majority would feel, she was truly pregnant. There are multiple reasons, one being that the scene where she was vomiting at home. That is the main point that I would base all my views on her being pregnant revolve around and its not something to just put out about and able to play off for long. Another reason is, Kotonoha was in no state of passing judgement on anything. She was already shocked(borderline between sane/insane) when the a$$hole dumped her but revived a bit after getting picked up by him again. So I would say she was sane UNTIL he saw what happen to the idiot that died, (im happy that happened), and fell even deeper in shock... With her being in that condition, how could you believe anything she states...all her reasoning was one-sided after that. I am not sure on how many months pregnant Sekai was when she was on the roof with Kotonoha, so to actually disect her to see if you can see a fetus or even something of that sort might have been too early, not to mention, who knows, maybe she just cut right through the stomach and even killed the kid and stated "its a lie" since there isnt a kid there anymore after death...

this is what I posted in another thread in this forum and I guess this is more accurately where it belongs..sorry for the typos, too lazy to go through it and correct any of it atm...

It's interesting to see how different people viewed this series.

The moment the series started hinting that psycho girl was crazy, I went into disbelief mode and watched it as a spoof/satire on the harem genre. I found it hard to feel for most of the characters because they eventually pushed the line into unrealistic and extreme behavior.

For me, my primary feeling was surprise as this anime showed/hinted far more than most series are willing to do. So by the time the ending rolled around, I was ready to see what craziness would come next.

It's funny. Back in late September, I rated this anime a 6, even though it was on great pace for a 9 after episode 11. In reality, I think this anime was a bit better than a 6. It was enjoyable, kept me guessing on what was going to happen, and had a fun plot line. Setsuna is probably one of my favorite characters of all time, and School Days definitely has some of the better memories, even outside of the last episode.

I probably should have voted this an 8. It was really well made with an epic plot, and the studio did a great job in including a lot of the endings. I guess I was just tired after all the waiting for episode 12 and being so disappointed in it that I slammed it.

I tend to consider this not a direct satire of romance anime in general, but a satire and/or subversion of the "harem lead" character type.

I mean, they take all the negative traits of that type, put them all into a single character, then question what a real male with those traits would act like if he was surrounded by beautiful women who wanted to bone him.

Genius.

I think this anime is brilliantly horrible, and deserves at least an 8.

Also, I now tend to find myself comparing male leads to Makoto, and if they bear more than a passing resemblance, yeah, I start hating the character.

Bingo. This is what saved the entire series for me, aside from the epic Bad End. You tend to have at least one guy in every thread saying that, if all these women like this guy, why doesn't he just bang them all? Well, here's your answer, kiddies :heh:

wasnt actually that bad i enjoyed watching the reactions of my GF to the show more than the serie itself, too many unprobable things happening so retarded characters killed the credibilty of it but it made me laught and i was actually looking forward to see how far the directors could go.

there is something i wondering about japanese anime/manga and pregnancy, i mean do they concider birthcontrol the process of making sure the baby will be delivered at the right date or something?

Well, it certainly was a memorable series, I'll give it that much. Did I think it was any good?

On one hand, I hate how any hint of "drama" in any romance series now apparently means we're heading for a bloodbath of an ending. It's a testament to how memorable the ending of School Days was. The characters in the series were almost universally caricatures of the stock "high school romance" characters who all ultimately happened to either be an amoral bastard (Makoto) or downright insane (almost everyone else). I get the impression that the powers that be behind the show knew full well that the game's popularity (or notoriety) comes from it's violent bad endings, and tried to incorporate elements from all of them into the show (I can't be the only one who expected Kotonoha to take a leap off the roof at the end).

That being said, I think the series was brilliant in its execution. I knew full well that it was going to be a train wreck going in, and as it progressed, I just knew it could never end any way but badly, and yet I had to see for myself how it ended. Full credit to the show for that. I'm not sure if it was supposed to an intentional subversion or what have you of the classic (or cliche) harem romance, but it's not a stretch to see it as one - School Days took the situation to a (bizarrely) logical extreme.

If I had to stick a number on it, I'd give it maybe a 7 or 8. It's a well executed train wreck of melodrama and certainly memorable, but I did find the "well how much *worse* can things get/people act" thing the series does a bit stupid near the end.

I've been reading this post and I've recently joined it so...I decided to post here ^_^ (I'm a girl and I'm watching this, LOL)
Animation Quality: 8/10
Voice Actors: 9/10
Script: 9/10
Adaptation from Game: 8/10
Editing: 9/10

I voted 10 because I'm glad that Makoto died...LOL! I'm evil but he deserved it. I don't really like the black blood but it's still okay ^_^ Now...about the characters...
Makoto...
I did not really hate him at first, I thought he was just normal and not that bad. But when he cheated on Kotonoha, I admit I was VERY pissed off! And I despise him from that episode onwards! I also hate it when he decided to slept with other girls like Otome, Hikari and the three 'sluts'. I also admitted that I was happy when he died (sorry Makoto fans...if there are any...). And I also hate him for not taking resposibility when Sekai is pregnant (THAT JERK!!!)
Sekai...
Well she...um...I admit that I once said that she was a slut because she gave herself to Makoto. I'm still a bit angry at her but it is beginning to dissapear bit by bit... I think she should not introduce Makoto to Kotonoha in the first place if she liked him, Makoto had no guts to meet Kotonoha anyway. If she had just told him her feelings without introducing Kotonoha, maybe she will end up with Makoto and all of this would not have happened. But if that happened, there'll be no story too...:heh: I believe that Sekai is pregnant because it's impossible to see the baby when it's not even fully developed, so Kotonoha obviously could not see it too. And when she realised she was pregnant, no one was there so it's impossible that she's lying.
Kotonoha...
Well...I feel the most pity for her. She was cheated by Makoto and betrayed by her one and only friend, And she was bullied just because of her big breasts, that's horrible!!! But I feel that she's silly to cling on a jerk such as Makoto! He does not deserve Kotonoha at all! It's so sad that she went crazy in the end, just because of a jerk... And, ya, she's my favourite character in school days.
Setsuna...
I had a good impression of her. She gave up everything for her best friend, I'm so touched! She had a crush on Makoto too but she gave him up to Sekai!
Otome...
I hate it when she bullies Kotonoha... And, how could she give her body to Makoto. I know that she truely loves Makoto but she must understand that Makoto has a girlfriend! What she's doing is just making Makoto going more and more into the 'jerk path'. But I like it when she rejects Makoto in the end after seeing his true colours.
Hikari...
WHY THE HELL IS SHE WITH MAKOTO IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!??? HOW COULD SHE SLEEP WITH HER BEST FRIEND'S GUY!? She's a slut...really... And she even dared to go to Sekai's place after that! another what the hell from me! (even though I know the reason from the game but they didn't explain it in the anime)
The three 'sluts'...
What can I say??? Total sluts... and troublemakers..by recording everything...But I like it when they show Makoto's true character in the video. Although I don't like how they make Nanami cry...
Taisuke...
He had a crush on Kotonoha but Kotonoha rejects him... But, why the hell did he rape Kotonoha? Maybe he can't take it anymore since he was rejected. But it's also Makoto's fault for not telling Kotonoha that he's with Sekai.
Nanami: No comments, just sad for her when she cried after seeing the video
Kokoro: Super CUTE!!! I like cute girls like her!

Even though I wanted a harem ending in the first few episodes. I got pissed off by that jerk and wished him dead, and that happened! LOL!

Just to throw in my 2 cents, I gave this one a 4 for being well below average yet thought provoking. Its just all those thoughts are actually drowned in emotion, and overwhelmingly negative. Since both sides of the debate seem to have pretty much established themselves, I will only add that I found ep12 to not track at all from the rest of the series. At all. And I only watched this bloody series BECAUSE I knew about the damned ending, and it still does not fit. Its like the writers wrote 11 episodes of an overly melodramatic harem series, and decided to end it by stealing a Higurashi script, just for the hell of it.

For this to be a real parody, I would like to have seen a bit more wit and self awareness. That said, if there is a cultural gap that does make this a parody, then well played.

Btw, is it me, or is the secret plot here to make viewers experience a burning desire to purge the world of anyone who looks like Makoto? I know its drawn in, but still, if I ever see someone that strongly resembles him, I may just enter H.E.M.(Human Eradication Mode)

I have to give it a nine, it actually made me cry because I was upset at how Kotonoha was being treated and stuff. But despite that, I was braced for a much more gory ending.

Makoto was an asshole to both Kotonoha and Sekai. I was amazed at how he could just go from one another without thinking of their feelings. I wonder if in the end he really was sorry. Let me quote Makoto: 'I don't care about Kotonoha'. After that I hated him and I did wanted him to get what was coming to him. Maybe not if he had told Kotonoha, but he kept it a secret and look what happend. And also that he could just stand therw while everyone was telling him he couldn't talk to Kotonoha annoyed me.

And as I said, I was expecting a much more gory ending. But I thought Kotonoha would kill Makoto and that would be it. Guess I was wrong.

Overall like I said a nine, nothing gets a 10 in my books, nothing.

Obviously he was after sex, and after he found out everyone wanted him, he was just milking everyone.

I, too, was convinced that Kotonoha would be the one to finish Makoto off. I thought she just got back together with him so she could kill him and make him hers forever. Who'd have thought Sekai was even more insane than Koto?

I loved the show. It was pretty awsome, but I agree, pretty much every character, even the ones I liked, I think were dumb as hell. And I especially hated Makoto, and not just for the cheating, though, I thought he was dumb for doing that too, and it being so obvious, but just that he was really stupid when it came to being in relationship and did things that should be given knowledge not to do at certain times. I loved the anime, it's one of my favorites, but I think watching the last half of the series non-stop was almost too much to handle because the characters were so dumb. But I still loved it, especially the end, of coarse :D

5/10

Motokos death was well deserved and add'ed few points to the score. After 11 episodes with "Darn-I-want-to-break-his-legs" feelings I was sort of relieved to see him die, but I was confused when Sekai died and had her stomach sliced up.. That was just unneeded.

I don't blame or hate Kotonoha and Sekai for being stubborn, because I sort of believe love is a selfish thing, so in the end it was 'tragic' it had to 'end like this'.

Oh well imo. the show shows the extreme realism with a big e. I could live with all the girls wanting him and the actions and wishes(dreams, illusions) from Kotonoha + Sekai, but in the end, it is this brain dead monkey Motoko:frustrated:.

If a woman tells you that she is pregnant with your child, then it is an indirect way to say she wants to keep the child and she needs your full support(if she doesn't want the baby, she takes a secret abortion(since I can hardly believe any woman is willing to give birth to her own child and walk away)), how Motoko responded to Sekai + he banged some other girls on top of that afterwards, was just too much, so I decided to stop watching SD and checked out the ending and I felt I really wanted to see him suffer for the first time in the show.

-

I did check up on School Days on Wikipedia before watching the show and the genre is Drama, Romance and Tragedy, so I thought it would be something like a japanese Beverly Hills 90210 show, but ended up feeling angry instead.

I'd give the show a 9.5, rounded to a 10. Even though it was far from perfect.

It kept me hooked, I watched the whole thing in 3 days (which is very very quickly by my standards), and I couldn't stop thinking about it for a good week afterward. (I think I'm finally over that...)

I really feel like the show gets a lot more crap than it deserves just because of how unlikable the characters are. It's not a feel-good series. I don't know what people don't get about that.

And other people complain about it being unrealistic, which I also don't think is all that true. The ending was pretty out there, granted (but hardly anyone complains about the ending), but in my experience a LOT of high school kids are just as sleazy as the ones in School Days. Maybe I just live in a bad neighborhood, but that's certainly the impression high school left me with.

At the very least, probability aside, nothing that happened in the show couldn't have happened in real life. Well, aside from some of the comic relief stuff...

I watched this last night, and the whole thing was fucked up(there is no other way to say it tbh).

Best train wreck ever, cell phones are weapons of mass destruction, and on a more serious note this would really tell people not to screw around with people's emotions because although this is the worst case scenario it is NOT cool to see anything close to this in real life. Weird way to send a message.

The real victim was the baby that never was, what did that being ever do?

If I watch an anime that spends 5 out of 12 episodes setting up a couple, I don't wanna see the lead rather suddenly guy change his mind and follow the junk in his pants.

I mean, being promiscuous and having one night stands is fine, but doing it with any girl who looks cute at the time, while hardly regarding any of the others feelings is just ridiculous.

I finished watching this just because I don't like to leave things unfinished, Makoto managed to increasingly piss me off each episode, glad he got what he deserved.

I did say rather.
Fine, 3 and a half episodes.
Anyway, this series was nothing but annoying, you couldn't feel anything for the characters except a little for Kotonoha, because they were all so damn wrong.

Makoto starts off at being a hopeless romantic pursuing a girl he likes, and ends up cheating, lying scum, after giving in to the feelings in his pants. Inconsiderate of any of the girls feelings apart from when he realizes he can't get anything from any of the girls, so he ends up with Kotonoha.
If he would of broke up with Kotonoha earlier, it would've have made him look at least as smart as a chimpanzee.

I liked it because it showed how downright ugly romance can get and just how stupid people are can be. The essence of what was portrayed in School Days happens every day in varying degrees of severity. Its unapologetic portrayal of the darker side of love and the courage to actually follow through on the conclusion it had been building up to won many points for me.
You complained about it being annoying, but I can't help but feel like the director wanted to convey that feeling towards Makoto and most of the girls he screwed around with. If you're trying to portray playing musical girlfriends and blatantly shirking responsibility as anything else, then I have a problem.
It all starts out innocently enough, with Sekai trying to worm her way between Makoto and Kotonoha - something that would get half the fans cheering and half the fans booing in any other series - but quickly spirals out of control into the brutal tragedy that became so infamous this last year or so. In a way, it feels a bit like a Shakespearean tragedy.

But as if not break up with someone you have no feelings for, and who seems like you won't be sexing anyway, would've made crap much simpler on himself and on future relations.

That's the most unrealistic part.

I was, more or less, under the impression that he 'loved' whomever panties he could get down first.

He 'loved' Sekai when Kotonoha wasn't giving it up. he 'loved' Kotonoha when no one was willing to give it up to him. He didn't want to deal with the hassle of Kotonoha's shyness in the beginning and he, DEFINITELY, didn't even want to deal with the hassle of being tied down to Sekai with the possibility of her bearing a child.

All in all Makoto was a selfish jerk who didn't want to deal with responsibility.

Oh, and I loved School Days. The last episode made the show that much more worth it

Ok this is where things went to hell. It seemed that Makoto was s****ing with everything that moved. And the directors made him seem like a brainless sex-machine.

I just finished watching it, and it seems like it was really interesting until it turned... well... all f-ed up. I admit, it is certainly different to see this kind of thing. It's one of those shows that make you think. Seconds after the very end, I was just like... "Man... wtf..." Not because she's pyscho, but because of everything that happened.

It's very easy to say that my opinion of every single character in this anime went down the more and more they appeared. I loved the Sekai when she was hiding her feelings. Felt bad for Makoto in Ep 1. Felt bad for Kotonoha for most of the middle of the series. But there came times for everyone.

Sekai - when she starts knowingly cheating with Makoto.
Makoto - same, but worse and worse with each time it happens.
Kotonoha - When her face goes lifeless and she starts being bat-shit insane. Don't even need to mention the end to back it up.

Nanami - never liked her in the first place. Didn't really feel bad for her when they showed the video.
Hikari - Was averse to her from the start just because of her hair. Then like she gets thrown into being a whore somehow. She went from wanting to be with Taisuke to sex with Makoto, and it didn't seem like she liked him at all.
Otome - Ponytail = yes. Rest = no. I did like how she went after Makoto, and I have to say that she was the only smart one when she cut him loose after she heard he was a cheating bastard.
Taisuke - douche from the beginning. Worst comedic relief side kick sex fiend friend dude evar.
Those other three girls - hoe-bags.

And now the one character I came to like: Setsuna.
I did not like her in the beginning, but she became much more likable as she became part of the story. Her kiss on the sleeping Makoto was the best. Probably the only time I was relieved to see Makoto giving it to someone, cause she seemed to earn it. Weird saying it that way, but whatever. I guess I just like those quiet types who aren't fuckin morons.

The so called "drama" in this show is a celebration of the shittiest behavior romance or otherwise found in humans. It shows the bottom of the barrel of japan's view of women, and a disgraceful showcase of the most banal tendencies of the visual novel genre.

the characters are deliberatively bad. makoto is just a little animal, and represents the worst of teen boy culture. a little punk that should have his stuffing knocked out of him. he is not dumb, just bad. i would mark makoto up as a base effort by the producers to pander to the chauvs out there, but given the enthusiastic reception makoto receives in the less than intelligent crowd, i have to say that not only is he an unredeemable character, but also a horrible cult figure. he is shit, and you are shit for liking him.

the other girls are basically designed to be bitches on the loose. the show is designed to be a shitstorm, enjoyed by the degenerate and maligned.

After hearing the infamous ending everyone was talking about,I went to check out the anime for myself.

I seriously hated it.
Sure the plot is nothing new in a love-triangle [even though other girls participated in it] the whole thing was pretty predictable...until the end.
I don't know, the characters [especially Makoto] ticked me off till no end & I found them annoying.I'm even suprised I watched the whole thing but I do admit this show had its good parts too that really sucked me into it.

This anime basically give both guys & girls a bad name but it teaches alot I guess.
I won't say no more.
This is only MY opinion so don't take it to any offense lol xD

Since it was a dark subversion of the school romance harem genre, I'd say it did its job then. School Days is to harem what Evangelion is to Mecha.

we all know this show went down in history for different reason but the universal is always "boat".

And this show didnt give "boys and girls a bad name" human beings in nature is F'D UP. True psychos do exist in the world, some way more out-there then those two girls.

I didn't really like this anime for two reasons:

1: The main guy is a man whore!! XD (He sleeps with like, 5 girls!!)
2: The ending was horrible! X0

well i dont know about those who gave it 4 or lower but to me personally it was one of the best animes ive seen so far in its own way.

fisrt off it started as a typical romance anime. motoko goes with kotonoha, they have there bumps and difficulties towards a good relationship... then sekai comes out of no were and seduces motoko in a sly way. motoko begins to realize that he wants sekai and then the story splits into a different direction.

after motoko gets a taste of love he becomes greedy and goes for more and more until hes out of control. despite all that kotonoha still doesnt give up on motoko. motoko eventually end up with nothing, realizing what he's been doing is wrong and goes back to his old self with partial thanks to kotonoha.

sekai's attempt to get motoko fails and she kills him because she didnt get her way. kotonoha takes revenge and ends up with motoko (sort of, lol).

overall when i first watched i was like "yeah, yeah, here comes another typical romance." but then it goes completely a different way than i expected and comes to a sad end. yes the story was sad and you could only feel but sorrow for kotonoha throughout the story but its because of that, that made the anime so darn good! i rooted for the best ending there could possibly be but i wouldnt change a thing if i had a chance.

school days is so different, and good, i cant even put it in the same catagory with other animes. i finished the show about a year ago and it still to this day has me thinking about it. so overall i give it a perfect 10 out of 10.. i wish there was a number higher i could go to express how much i loved this anime! i think the creator was brilliant for what he did with this anime!

maybe those of you who didnt like this anime saw it in a different way but to me this was just one of those once in a life time animes!

I guess I just like those quiet types who aren't fuckin morons.

to the vast majority of good animu fans, this show is a big fuck you. i can only return the favor.

i think you guys got the characters all wrong. yea they all messed up in alot of ways, and did alot of commen sense stupid things, but you have to think about what they wanted, how they felt, and how what they wanted got them into the mess they got into.

motoko - started out wanting katsura. but then sekai showed more emotion and passion towards him than katsura. after he realized that he ended up realizing that he wanted sekai all along. after doing the do with sekai, he understood sex more, and got caried away in the romance wanting more and more until he lost himself. then when he ran out of alternatives he realized what he had been doing and that he really did want kotonoha from the beginning. but despite his realization, it was too late to make up for the mess he created and things ended how it ended.

sekai - wanted motoko from the beginning but couldnt have him because he liked katsura. she knew the only thing she could do was support him and be there for him, and that if she did that, she would eventually find an opening and for the moment succeeded. not realizing she created a monster, eventually she started to lose motoko and did despirate things to try to bring him back (preteding to be pregnant for example). at that point her emotions were damaged and she was lost and didnt know what to do. as a result, she crashed and killed motoko because she didnt want anyone to have him if she couldnt and met the fate that was her.

katsura - wanted motoko from the beginning but had a hard time connecting to him due to her shy personality. as a result of her personality, it took her too long to become open to motoko, and sekai stole him away . when she noticed motoko stopped spending time with her she knew deep inside what was going on, which activated her to draw on to motoko faster (too little too late unfortunately). with her in denial mixed in with the huge sudden amount of emotional pain, she became crazy and obsessed with motoko like cocaine. when motoko had no were to go she finally got her opportunity to take him back and thats how she ended up the way she was.

taisuke - not much to really say about him. he envied matoko's relationship with katsura and fell in love with her deep inside but didnt say anything. because of that he didnt notice that hikari liked him and really didnt pay much attention to her. when he found out motoko was done with katsura he used it as an opportunity to get was he ever so wanted and for one day, was a god.

hikari - i mean come on! you cant really call her a whore. i mean you have the right to because of what she did, but at the same time come on! she came to his house to have him cheer on sekai. he probably showed affection toward her and she got caught up in the moment.

otome - yea she was a bi**h, but you can't call her a whore no mater how you look at it. she loved motoko from the beginning and confessed. she stayed with him until she heard he was dirty.

kyoura - everything she did was for sekai's sake. not like she was just sex hungry.

thats just about all i can say for the characters. im not saying the opinions put on them are wrong but you do gotta think about how they felt.

This series was like a Vanilla Sky experience for me, but way more fucked up.

Honestly, it was pretty realistic too, till it got the blood and gore parts. Itou did what any teenager in his situation would do: he lived it up. I really have a hard time faulting him for fucking every girl that came his way. And the girls' reactions is just as realistic, because lets be honest, girls like "assholes" and Itou fit the bill. It's social proof at its finest, girl sees guy getting loads of ass, hence proof that he is fit (and worthy of her vagina).

This series was more of a parable than a story though, since most women would not cut up corpses, or killed the person that jilted them. Seika getting batshit crazy was pretty far out but teens already have raging hormones and pregnancy adds fuel to the flame. As a dad to be i can tell you that you shouldn't underestimate what a baby can do to your baby-momma.

I wish they were more committed to the lesson they were trying to convey though. The animation really was a bit too cutesy and the beginning really misleads you. After watching higurashi and now this series, I'm starting to wonder if anime is the right media to do this type of story. Sure the last episode shocked me, but I wonder if it would have greater effect if it was live. Also the sex really needed to be pumped up. It was a huge catalyst for the events that happened later, and it just felt like overflow was compromising themselves for not going out in this area (unlike other parable movies involving sex).

I really disliked all the characters by the end except for Kotonoha. I really felt sorry for her, if there really was an innocent victim in this series it is her. I was hoping she would be the one to kill Itou. But at least she killed Sekia which brought a smile to my face. She really didn't deserve all the abuse she got. Itou ends up apologizing to her and picks her in the end but it really was too little too late.

I guess Taisuke was ok, O mean if Kotonoha was with him I'm pretty sure he would have been faithful only she didn't, and he did kind of take advantage of her........ I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt since he's so earnest and still purses her after the whole incident.

All in all i give it a 8/10. The characters in this series just leave a bad taste in my month. Sure it was realistic but did everyone have to be so irredeemable? And poor poor Kotonoha.

if you believe that school days gives a representative or even 'reasonably tolerable' portrayal of romantic relations, you are free to enjoy the mess, but i make precisely the point that this is the reason why it is a piece of cultural trash. the same criticism applies to entertainments powered by slave gladiators or exploited women. it caters to the base taste.

When I started School days it looked pretty interesting to me. But it went downhill so very fast after Matoko (was his name right?) started to just do any girl in his grasp. The characters had a lot of potential, but IMO it was just thrown out the window.
I don't think the production thought so deep about why the charcters start to become psycho as some fans claim. IMO they just wanted to shock somewhat and to seem bright because they made something unique - but wasn't.

The plot would have been great if it had been a hentai (not really a compliment, since the standarts for a plot in porn is pretty ... very .. low :D). But it wasn't.
For me School Days was the crappiest anime I've ever seen xD I really should've dropped it after ep 4 or so.

It's just my opinion. Whoever likes it or thinks of it as a masterpiece is free to do so, but it's crap for me ^^
ANd I don't neglect SD because of the content, e.g. violence, implied sex and promiscuous behavior, which I don't mind. Actually some other series I really love use that exessively (non anime but still).

I don't want to even start to criticize SD seriously because I would only waste more time on it xD It doesn't stand much literal or entertain value IMO.

But hey, no offense to no one :) Have fun with it, tastes are different~

Unfortunately your post makes no sense.

I have to do a 'the emperor has no clothes' thing with this one, your post lacks logic and a followable train of thought.

Try again.

@zebra, it has nothing to do with taste, it has everything to do with critical close reading. If you decide to not do that, then it's a statement about you, not the show.

This was actually a pretty good romance series. The seriousness involved, the awesome character designs, and realistic emotions was very well portrayed. The ending is very out of the ordinary, but I was not affected by it. (I was more affected by Fate/Stay Night haha...) It had a good plot and I recommend it to watch.

Ending was a bit sad because I really felt bad for Kotonoha who seems to have the worst of it throughout the whole series and even in the end she found no happiness. I don't have any remorse for sekai or itou because they both knew what was going on and what would result out of it (well maybe I can feel some sympathy for sekai since she loses her best friend and obviously the person she likes to another girl).

9/10

The starting few episodes is good
I loved how sekai hooked them up and had feelings for him, at around the first few episodes i was loving the series, then he goes and screws like 10 girls... 3 of which at once and he barely knew any, cheats on 2 girls and is a total asshole... Glad he's dead.

The only character i liked was setsuna... damn she is pure awsome <3

The ending was great, i was however dissapointed to see sekai is stupid enough to go up to the roof...

I loved the ending 10/10
Koto went loony, i hate loony people...(well that kinda loony :p)
Many characters in the series were just screwed up(Like the 3 girls who sleep with itou without knowing him, and taped all the couples in the lounge.
Loved the starting few eps 10/10
Setsuna was the best char... and she left
But the parts where he was sleeping around like scum... only reason i kept watching was to watch him get wtfowned at the end
Overall i would say the lounge was what screwed everything up, him going their with that girl and having sex all the time, and getting with those 3 other girls and so on... I would of loved the series if it was sekai koto and setsune...
Overall, this is a series i can't rate, i love and hate to many things about it and i just can't give it a number...

I'm a bit late to the game but finally finished watching ep 12. I voted perfect despite so many that think this whole series sucked from start to finish. Its not even close to realistic except that if you cheated your girlfriend with 6-7 other girls you will probably die a bloody death, it's anime and anything is acceptable in anime.

Very true to its hgame roots but the storytelling isn't bad at all. Completely unexpected ending for me that it turned out messier than higurashi (higurashi had more censoring than school days). I've read many who posted there will be blood, which i find even more insane than kotonoha. No one really had to die and the thought never crossed my mind. chopping off makoto's head really topped everything.:eyespin:

Great series. Worthy of recommendation.

Wow, that was truly a psychological thriller. I was literally suprised, and I was severly dissapointed by all the actions made by the male character. But it's just really creepy to know that the stuff that happens in this anime is our actual world today. How far people will go in lengths just to gain the acceptance and love of someone else.

I just watched the completed series today and it was quite...interesting. My viewpoint of it is from someone who only seen the anime and had no knowledge of the game information beforehand. I always knew vaguely of this series from the whole "Nice Boat" meme phenomenon but I never looked any more into it.

While the 3 or 4 first episodes was moving at a good pace comparable to any other decent anime it just got really sloppy towards the middle of the series and continue towards the "shocking" end.

I don't read/play many visual novel games but I'm aware with these turned anime types they try to put in many different routes and even a few endings in it to give a complete story. I dunno how many routes and such School Days had but it's obvious they tried to cram waaaaay too much into it without serious consideration for how well they flow together. Character personalities and certain plot points were very inconsistent once it got towards the middle. It was beyond flip-flopping. Just made the series seem silly.

Usually toning down the explict sex scenes from the games a viewer wouldn't mind since the solid story is still good enough to carry it through and even reach a broader audience who can respect it even more (i.e. KNGE). School Days felt different, the plot seem almost on par of a generic hentai title. In fact my main impression of the series after the first few episodes was that it was mediocre hentai anime (mediocre because of the bland animation) without actual good hentai scenes.

The whole setup from the beginning with Sekai setting up the guy she loves with another girl was doomed at start imo. This post would get too big going into details into why and other character personality problems so I'll just stop here.

Final Verdict? 7/10
To me I think it's safe to say without the final episode this series would have easily fallen into the abyss of mediocre, forgotten romance anime titles. In some ways because of how much an impact the ending made to the anime community I give it some respect in that regard. So in a sense, I guess this series is somewhat recommendable just because of how memorable it has become (for good or bad).

When I watched this anime, I had a nice feeling about the characters. The plot was great in the beginning. I thought that it would be a nice romantic anime with high schoolers. My rating of the first two episodes are over ten out of ten. Then when I watched the third episode, my feelings for this show was slowing increasing until... BAM! THE ENDING!

My feelings of Makoto being a good character was shot out of the building. I had no problems with Sekai kissing Makoto. But those words uttered by Makoto at the ending of episode was unforgivable. Sekai was still a better character than Makoto, but she lost some of my respect when she kissed Makoto. Just a little respect was lost. Kotonoha was probably the best character in the series so far. She was a girl who loved Makoto fully. I respected her so much.

When I watched the fourth episode, I was looking at Makoto with disrespect. I didn't even want him in the series anymore. Then eventually, I lost even more respect for Makoto.

The other episode were ok, but I grew a deeper hatred of Makoto every second. When I watched episode twelve, I was shocked.

Even though Makoto was a douchebag, he didn't deserve it. He should have at least a less serious punishment. I personally hate Makoto really badly, but I would never go as far as what Sekai did. My feelings for this show were shattered completly. At the end, I finally knew the meaning of the School Days anime.

I'll make the OVAs short. I love them. Makoto was the best character in the ovas. Replace the tv show Makoto with the OVA Makoto and the show would be perfect in my opinion.

My ratings for the episodes and OVAs are:

Episodes 1 and 2: 10+/10
Episode 3: (Beginning: 9/10) and (Ending -billion/10)
Episode 5: 7/10
Other Episodes: 6/10
EPISODE 12: 6/10
Ovas: 10+/10

In short. TV show was the best in the first two episodes and ok or suckish in the later episodes. The OVAs were the best and perfect.

I would only suggest to watch episode one and two only, but maybe watch some parts of the third episode. Then watch the OVAs. Then you are done with the good parts. So only do that and you should be happy with knowing Makoto, Sekai, and Kotonoha.

I found that the episodes that led up to the ending were a complete trainwreck. Makoto completely degenerated his character, and was viewed in my eyes, nothing more than a sex fiend/pervert.

~This production team is pretty notorious for it's twisted endings.

The production team of the anime or the game company that released the game on which the anime was based?

And, really, a trainwreck just because a major character showed outermost signs of (to some) unacceptable behavior? Lots of series would qualify for that, then... oh, wait... lots of people say they do... :heh:

It seems to me that a lot of people are looking at school days in the wrong way. It was NEVER meant to be realistic, it really is a deconstruction of the whole idea of a Harem Anime, a postmodern Harem Anime if you will. The entire show is about taking cliched stock characters and situations and taking them to their ultimate logical conclusion, each and every character fits a particular type, and fits it to a T. The only difference between School Days and the standard show like it is that it takes the same personalities that you see everywhere, edits not the character, but the situation, and takes it from there.

I'll start with Makoto.

Makoto is a douche, no doubt about it, but what I do think is intriguing is that his personality differs in almost no meaningful way from that of most Harem anime leads. Look at his main character traits:

1. He is indecisive - This is universal among Harem anime dudes. While they may favor one particular girl, they can never quite decide who it is they actually want. It goes further than that, being indecisive means that he rarely if ever says no to any request.
2. He's a pervert - again, not unusual, most harem leads are virgins who really want to have a girlfriend and get laid. BUT because the objects of their affection don't show enough interest, or there is an interruption right when things are about to 'get good' nothing ever comes of it.
3. He is reactive, not proactive - Being the milquetoast that he is, more often than not shaped and pulled by the girls around him more than his own personal initiative, he rarely if ever initiates anything. The show is often about the stuff that happens TO him.
4. He is not empathetic - Harem leads also have a tendency to not understand the feelings of those around them, not understand how their actions affect their harem, and show an amazing inability to read through the lines. This often leads him to take the girls for granted in one way or the other.

So, basically what makes Makoto so likable to many people in the first couple of episodes is exactly what makes him reviled by the end of the series, Makoto, like many characters like him, doesn't really grow throughout the series, he does become more aloof, but he was selfish from the start. Now we can look at the girls.

Kotonoha fits the anime trope of The Ojou very well:

1. The sweet, shy hot girl - I can't count how many times this character has been used, to great effect I might add, in not only harem shows, but H-series, Sci-Fi, whatever. She is attractive, but scared of boys, but in spite of that she has a pure crush on one in particular.
2. Out of Touch - Kotonoha is indeed out of touch with reality, she in many ways lives in her own little world, never quite understanding what makes her love interest tick. She is empathetic, in that she greatly cares about how others feel, and that can come to bite her in the ass.
3. Socially Inept - While a very nice girl who can be a good friend, her shy, sheltered existence means that she has trouble talking with even girls her own age. When she has made a friend, she sticks to them like glue, but she will rarely have more than one.
4. Happiness defined in relation to the dude - Pretty much what it says, when he loves her or is nice to her, she is happy, when he ignores her or doesn't understand her, she is sad. In practice this can often move out to the circle of friends. She is happy, essentially because she is liked by people, something her sheltered upbrining hasn't allowed much of.

So as I said Kotonoha is the sheltered princess, rich, attractive, and sweet, but unable to function socially at the level of the other characters. She also does not deal well in conflcit, and often one of the major turning points for her character is the time that they DO stand up for themselves. Characters like this are also often Woobies, which she is as well. She is so shy and earnest, that early on, you just want to give her a hug and say everything will be alright.

Then we have the third in the triangle Sekai. Sekai is again a pretty perfect cut and paste of the Tsundere trope, mixed with the Girl Next Door, and the Matchmaker crush. She reminds me alot of Miki from Suzuna actually, other defining features:

1. Who needs communication?: The Tsundere, no matter how much she feels for the protagonist cannot express it in words. Often there is the impression that if she could just say it once, she'd be OK, but that rarely if ever occurs.
2. I like you! Just kidding: Similar to the above, she will play off any times she does show her true feelings as jokes, so as to avoid any possible rejections.
3. Happiness also linked to the guy: She WANTS to be liked, and loved by Makoto, even if he is interested in someone else. Still, her whole life ends up revolving around him, his relationships, and his interactions with her.
4. Regretful - She doesn't necessarily WANT to betray a friend, and as such is torn about acting on her desires with the main dude. Still she both consciously an subconsciously puts herself in situations where there is sexual and romantic tension.

Sekai I suppose reminds me a bit of Ayukawa Madoka from KOR. Throughout the manga, she clearly did have feelings for Kyosuke, but did not want to hurt her friend Haruka. This went on for years until both she and Kasuga finally came to terms with each other, and broke Hikaru's heart.

But, wait you say, at least Madoka, and others like her, never slept with the objects of their affection while they were dating a friend. And you'd be right. However it isn't really a difference in personality that caused the change, it was a difference in events.

How many times in harem or love triangle anime have you seen the scene where one of the main and one of the girls were about to kiss, in a dark quiet room, filled with sexual tension, romantic lighting, and all the rest. The only thing that stops them is say, someone calling them from off-screen a cat running by, someone opening a door at just the wrong time, etc.

School Days has none of those artificial scene changers.

It asks the question of 'what would happen to the clueless, sex-obsessed, indecisive, non-confrontational, loser if all the cliched roadblocks were removed. When there are no parents coming home, no other girls stumbling on the scene, no airplanes or trains muting confessions, then there is nothing to stop an early hook-up. And what is that result? School Days.

The series also reminds me of old school Ranma fanfiction, specifically the DarkFic genre (haven't been in to this stuff for over a decade, so I dunno if its still popular or not) wherin the whole concept was to take these psychologically unbalanced characters and stop playing them for laughs. Comedy and tragedy are separated by a thin line, and what used to be funny, say Akane's abusive relationship with Ranma, can suddenly turn very, very dark. Ryoga could become a creepy stalker, Shampoo an attempted murderer, etc.

So of course Makoto sleeps with everything that moves, he has been given no reason not to. His character archetype can't understand how not talking to a girl will hurt her more than talking to her. After all since he wants to avoid confrontations, it's best to avoid the issue entirely. Since his archetype can rarely if ever say no, when other girls start throwing themselves at him, he goes along for it. As this continues, he realizes that not only can he get laid, he can get laid a LOT, and easily.

In many harem anime, while the main character may like the affection showered upon him early on, by the end he takes it for granted. That's how Makoto is with the sex. There is no value placed on it, other than his inherent pleasure, it becomes as trivialized as say random boob flashes are in other shows, and thus by the end of the series he doesn't understand the consequences of it. Because for many of the girls it meant very little, or at least it seemed to.

As Makoto's personality traits get brought to their ultimate conclusions, so then do Kotonoha and Seikai's. When one's happiness is tied entirely to their status in the eyes of another, that is a recipe for bad, bad things. In most Harem anime, this is rarely if ever an issue, even the obsessive girls know that the hero likes them, he pays attention to them, and they wait for the day that he might ask them out. Their love is pure, if creepy when you really look at it.

Kotonoha is hit hardest early on, much like say a Hikaru, or what's her name from Suzuka (the shrine girl). She is shy, afraid of boys, and with the guy she likes, but she has issues, a fear of men, and a complex about those tig 'ol bitties. She believes that guys only want her for her knockers, and for a while Makoto seems to be the exception to the rule. But she likes him, a LOT, he is pretty much the center of her world from early, on. If it seems ridiculous, well it is, but that's her archetype. Her pure love means that she has problems connecting her image of love to the step of sex, and while she does so eventually, other girls have already moved in.

Seikai OTOH is just as obsessed, but acts according to a different archetype. She also gets the guy early on, by basically being easy, and it works, but due to the fact that she placed no value on her virginity, or sex in general, and had there not been another 1/2 dozen girls waiting to ride the meat train, then it actually might have worked out. But it didn't.

Basically, both of these archetypes can't function when their whole existence is defined by their crush/relationship. People can be this way in real life, but the co-dependence here is as exaggerated as these character cliches are. With no force able to mitigate Makoto's descent into the realm of the manwhore, these characters move further and further away from reality and sanity. It's always dangerous to cut out the object of someone's obsession, and that's essentially what occurs here.

Without the core of what makes their characters, well, their characters Kotonoha and Seikai are left with nothing but their insanity and obsession, and we all see where that leads.

But again, none of the above is realistic, it's merely placing a harem troupe of characters into a ever so slightly altered world, and making a dark satire out of it. Satire is clearly what this show is, though it really doesn't become clear until the final episode just how satirical it was.

After all, the original H-game it seems had these endings as a bit of a joke counterpoint to the harem, or everyone moves on endings that are common to the genre. At least that's how I see them, and whether or not that was the intention of the authors, they were marvelously in that light.

Still, in no way was this anime realistic, nor do I think that realism what ever the point, even the most realistic anime often lives in its own Hyper-reality so to speak, and School Days was so different.

I just find it ironic that people can love or at least very much like the leads in other harem anime, and hate Makoto here. I understand the hatred for him, but the only real difference in Makoto is that every time he could possibly get laid, he does. And what a difference that makes.

Once in a while, i read some fanficts of fanfiction.net.

I trapped about a pretty good, thats about 6 month later of the happenings(of the anime).

For everyone, who likes to read, i realy can suggest this one. It is pretty good and realy toutching second end. The lead in this small story has Kato Otome.

It is very suitable for an OVA about 6 month after the incedents. :)

Despite being infected with a case of idiot plot, I laughed out loud all the way through this, whether that was supposed to be the point or not. I won't call this a must see, but becuase it entertained me, and since the ending was lulz, I give School Days a. . .

it's a good anime but has a disapponting story I personally liked sekai, otome and hikari, for the characters and I HATE makoto as a guy.. :frustrated: he's a F*ckng Idiot with no balls to face responsibility.. watching this anime gave me mixed feelings I can't believe how my emotions was being stirred while watching this that I'd give makoto a good beating and steal all the girls if I was one of the characters XD I rate this an 8/10 I have no complaints to artwork, music and whatsoever except for the ending.. sekai did'nt have to die (O.O) though she brought it upon herself for interfering with makoto's interest in banging kotonoha.. and in the end gave an effect of seducing him. (sigh) :eyebrow: But Im glad Makoto got pawned which he really deserved bwahahahaha!!!! :D:heh:

6/10 for entertainment value alone, and I do mean alone, every other aspect was hilariously bad.

I just finished watching this series. I had started watching it but stopped after episode 2 because it seemed predicatable. Boy was I wrong!!! Makoto is a DA (notice the caps). I mean seriously who tries to get some on the first date. Youve got to play the game slow. He is the worlds biggest pig. My hatred for him increased as the show went on. GET A FREAKING BACKBONE, break up before you start hitting on other girls. Kotohana actually started to come out and was giving all kinds of signals, are you freaking ignorant Makoto. You are ridiculousy indecisive. You screwed so many girls (literally) and when Sekai told Makoto that she was pregant and was upset Makoto looked for more girls to have sex seriouly you disgust me TAKE FREAKING RESPONSIBILITY, You have only yourself to blame Makoto.
And Kotohana I can't believe you couldn't see it coming you shouldve freaking confronted him about what was happening and get an honest answer. Makoto had the tell tell signs of cheating on you. FREAKING GET OVER IT, yes breaking up with your first love is hard but it is possible to get over it. Cry me a river build me a bridge AND GET OVER IT, you are a likable character but trying to call makoto while his phone had blocked and still trying to talk as nothing has happened. You were the last person I would expect to go insane.
The last episode was great but messed up at the same time. Makoto you have a freaking child it is your just as much as your responsibily as Sekai but no you HAD to run into kotohana and told her a bunch of lies. You never wanted to love her you just wanted to get some. It is very fortunate that Sekai saw you guys on the train. When she killed you i was cheering (serves you right you indecisve, cruel, sex craven deliquent) I usully am upset when a character dies but you definitly deserved it. HOWEVER I never thought that kotahana had such a killing instict, but you really need to get your facts straight about pregnancy. Me being a guy, could not tell if stopping a period means your pregnant anyways I know for a fact that a baby is developed for 9 months, and Sekai was only maybe a month in or 2. Of course there wasn't going to be a child in the womb. But the boat scene was just wrong on so many levels. First of all yeah your all alone with makoto but hes dead and without a body. That is just disgusting.... I definitly wasn't seeing that happen. Like I said you are the last person I would expect to do that and take it so seriously.
It was good series however I would probably never watch it again 5/10

I wathed this series a while ago since I had a bit of time. Wanted to put my two cents here for the archives.

School Days is awful. So awful. I watched it anyway and forced myself through just to see all the events that lead up to the blood bath. (Which was excellent, of course.)

Makoto? He's a fucking pimp. He cold hard bangs every girl that has the slightest crush on him. That chick with the ponytail or whatever that he banged during the festival or whatever, was a vague adaptation of my ideal fantasy. Probably for other people too. It will never happen.

And then there are times when he's not bumping uglies, and it's hard to watch. VLC media player has this awesome feature to speed up time, and watching every goddamn jailbait girl in that show with an even higher pitched voice made it so so amusing. Every character on the show is so one-sided and dull, and the plot seemed like it's been used a bajillion times before. I find it amusing that people buy into this crap. I just want the last episode, because you can understand the entire plot before the commercial break.

Now rewinding to the first episode. Oh it's a love triangle? That's never been used before. A few episodes later, Makoto's got reproductive rates of a small rabbit.

My final score is .83333333333333333/10. It doesn't deserve a 1. The final episode had more theatrical plot development than any other episode. That episode gets a perfect 10. The others? Well.

This series made me feel sad, angry, and disgusted.I hated all the characters and how the story developed.Every single character was miserable.I felt sorry for the way Kotonoha was treated.I completely hate Makoto for being an idiot and for causing most of the problems. He doesnt really understand the consequences of his actions.Sekai....i really dont know what to say.I literally sighed and facepalmed at every episode watching all that stupid drama that was happening. It was a complete trainwreck like some people described it. I cant believe how all these girls like a guy like Makato. Even though i hated watching this what kept me going was wanting to know how it all ends. Man was i in for a suprise. I regret ever watching this series.

You know...sex and love to different things nowadays. Only 3 of the girls actually liked him, the others were just attracted to him as a new "hot topic". The thing is...he hardly could make distinction between the two. But they really forced the drama a bit(I couldn't belive somone as oblivious and dumb like Makoto lives...even if yes I think he's especially rare thankfully)

Anyways I gave it 9/10 because of the daring theme and ending. Absolutely not your tyopicalechi-comedy harem anime or even a rom/com triangle.

That was a nice breakdown of School Days and gives reason as to why it's important series to watch if you're a fan of anime (even moreso a fan of the harem genre).

I'm not sure about giving the creators of the series that much credit for this series being some sort of ultimate anti-harem series though as if they planned out every single thing to work out like it did, but it worked. Sometimes great/interesting things comes from accidents. Not saying School Days was great but I feel it's important watch if you have a decent amount of viewed anime titles under your belt.

It's such a trainwreck until the ending, without the ending this series would have easily been forgettable but with the trainwreck of events beforehand then ending wouldn't flowed well with the series.

At the end of the day and amongst a vast amount of other titles what more could you ask from your series but to be so easily distinguished from the rest?

I rated it good..
cause I really liked it..except for the near-ending part
Honestly,I didn't finish this anime..
because I read the summary at wikipedia and
felt gross of what will happen
I can't even imagine seeing Makoto's chopped head..
I hate to..UGH!
and also I hated the near-ending storyline
I was so happy when Makoto and Sekai came together
but I hated the fact that Makoto did it with other girls..
I want to kill him..I really do!

I gave it 7 just to see other rating. Honestly I don't want to rate this. Very disturbing.
And I wanted a bit redder bloode.
But Otome rocked. Fav girl.
Sekai - just meh... Kotonoha also is a win. I cheered for her when she was doing the deed.
Reminds me of Shuffle somehow, but less bloody.

After watching this i became very sad and it like really sucked that makoto had died but it was kind of his fault but still it made me cry man that was like the most saddest series i watched becuz on ep 11 when she was prego i was like WOW!!.But when it came to ep 12 omg i was just in tear after that first stab and how he tried to crawl away man :'( then how that music just started playing omg that thing made it more sad but i loved the series. The characters were like whatever to me but how the story line was like it was that amazing but pretty amazing to me and at the very end where she was on the yacht with the removed head that was kind of creeppy but still so sad. LOVE THIS SERIES I WILL NEVER FORGET!

This anime is so fucked up... there isnt any other way to describe this series...

The only reason i decided to finish watching this anime was because i wanted to see Makoto die a horrible death... and im satisfied now. There was never a more hateable and repulsing character...

The feeling is completely different from watching a terror / suspense movie or a drama-romance. It isnt even like Higurashi were there is this mistery feeling and makes u wonder why cute little girls go nuts and butcher each other.

With regards to the other girls, did we meet them all directly? Or were the names only shown and all? I totally forgot about those extra girls. I only remember the brown haired friend that visited his apartment one time. I guess the ending shocked me so much I forgot about a lot of other stuff. Edit: Never mind. I just went to RC and read some descriptions and my stomach started turning. No way I can watch this again. And the reason I didn't remember the three girls was because nothing we really shown. The whole thing was really messed up, like the camera in the lounge during the festival, that turned my stomach again too. No way I'm watching this, I don't care enough to go through that anguish.

Edit 2: Now I regret reading those descriptions. A lot of it is coming back to me now. I'm gonna have trouble sleeping, not as bad as when I watched it the first time, but it's gonna bother me. I even lost my appetite the next day because of this too.
