As you all know, we ran a poll (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=47301) for the favourite character among the main four, throughout the whole lenght of the series (it was started more or less after episode 3). The results were the following:

although kagami was my first favorite in LS I soon fell for tsukasa...
she has the right amount of clumsiness that it doesn't seem annoying...
she says random things that are all so moé...

Kagami, by far and away. From her character design to the way how she stands out among the 4 as the voice of reason, she's ahead out of all the characters IMO. I'm not really a big fan of tsundere, but her antics as one does amuse me to no end. XD

I like her design, her tsundere antics, and she's just so cute when she gets caught doing things she's embarrassed about. Ex: the fan thing, loving food (like me) / worried about being fat. I also tend to like the characters with the common sense too since it sets up hilarious situations when they're paired up with the more, *ahem* unique characters, which is exactly what Lucky Star was mostly about.

Since this was a "special" poll, I just wanted the protagonists having "special" (as in weird/clumsy) poses, and Konata mimicking Da Capo's Kotori was spot on. But that's all and I don't think it makes a difference when it comes to choose. :)

That said, I've obviously voted for Kagami-sama, my first pick since the very beginning :D

For me it has to be Konata. All of the characters are great but they all centre around Konata, I mean to me Kagami would just seem kinda petty if it wasn't for the way Konata rides her all the time, which makes her pure class instead. First, Konata is a unique character, like Haruhi... she is full of win, period.

BUT, my favorite is Kagami-Sama because she is the cutest and adorable tsundere of all, being a character with dozens of "looks like", she is the No1. of all...

I just watched the entire series in three days! I thought I wouldn't like the series because the characters seemed a bit "Pedo" :heh: and I definitely didn't think I'd feel strongly about any of the characters. Well, I ended up really enjoying the series :D.

When I first watched the series I didn't favor any of them, half way through the series, I thought that I'd never favor any of them(Don't get me wrong, I had fun watching the series up until that point, I just didn't get attached to any of the characters.) But towards the end, I was actually moved from the last few episodes(Didn't think that'd happen after watching all those episodes focused solely on discussions about food, gaming, and the small things in life.)

I found myself liking Kagami a lot. She won me over with her practical attitude in real life situations, her empathy in regards to her friends, her humour in response to Konata's Otakuness and Tsukasa's laziness, and how she handled herself in some serious scenes. E.G. How she reacted to her sister getting angry when it wasn't her fault, and when she got that note on the trip. I admire the way she handled her sister without going over the top, even though you could tell she wanted to. And the scene with her waiting, I kind of just held my breath, it was a really good scene, and it helped me realize Kagami's depth as a character. I also find her cute now(Help!:upset:, I've become a Pedo!)

I hope we get to see the other characters be put in similar situations(In the manga maybe?). But after watching the anime, I'm seriously Kagami-biased, to me, Kagami-Sama stole the show.

Still true to the one and only Konata. Her personality and mannerisms are what kept the show alive all throughout, but I'm glad to say that this feature isn't what makes Lucky Star enjoyable. Kagami is also firm in 2nd place because of her character development throughout the series. It used to be that she needs Konata in order to show herself, but there are some pretty awesome moments without her (eg. Comiket scene, finding out she isn't in the same class, confession scene). Though I don't see them as a yuri couple, I see them as a very good, dynamic pair.

Konata was and still is full of win, though due to Kagami's character development and the introduction of Yutaka's class, you see less of her.

Yes... but still, Konata was designed as an unique character... i mean, its way too original in a world of recycled characters... just like a Tsundere-pigtailed one (kagamin-sama), that's why i love Kagamin, she is a character you can find in zillions of another shows, but paired with Konata she rocks... even alone she had great moments: the "love letter" was so touchy, the casual talks with her sister or in his daily life.... she is just SO normal, but still, adorable... she sure is more mature than the rest but she always enjoy her student life... and she even wasnt in the same classroom with the rest of her friends.

To be honest, I like all four characters equally, along with Monoru and Akira-sama. However, if I had to choose, I went for Konata for her uniqueness. Truthfully, you do not see a girl like her all that much in animated media.

-The gamer/otaku of the bunch. She's a procrastinator by heart, but a full-time dreamer. Her comments on how Kagami always looks at things at too much of a realistic light drew me closer to her. Definitely one of the more admireable characters in anime...aside from her procrastination (though I'm guilty of it).:heh:

Kagami
-Definitely the one that people like you and me will meet one day. She's snarky and seems to take things a bit too seriously at times, but she is reliable and helps out when needed.

Tsukasa
-I probably sympathize with her the most. She's a ditz and doesn't know what she is doing half the time, but she has that eternal charm. Plus, I think I found my soul-mate during her "I make plans, but they all fall apart" scene. Poor girl.:heh:

Miyuki
-She's a clumsy encyclopedia!:heh: There really isn't much that I can say about her, but when it comes down to it, she is definitely the cutest of the bunch. Not to mention she has a heart of gold. I especially liked her during the episode where she was without her glasses and borrowed Konata's and Tsukasa's notes, but couldn't make heads or tails out of what was wrote. What totally endered her to me was her "don't tell them. I don't want to hurt their feelings" comment.:)

Overall, I like all four characters equally, even though I voted for Konata. I really find aspects of myself in all four characters. Really, this show would feel empty if any one of these girls were missing, and that's one reason why I like Lucky Star.:)

Went with Kagami, because the tsundere moe is just way too kawaii... She tries so hard to be all gruff and practical, but we all know she's just a softy underneath... But totemo-kawaii-loli-ota-chan Konata might be a tie (can only choose one though). I almost picked Kona-chan solely based on her interactions with her dad. :) Too funny.

For all the jokes I can understand (the MMO/anime/universal childhood (i.e talking into a whirling floor fan ;)) references), it's hilarious and for all the Japanese references, it's a nice way to learn about some of the everyday culture. Someone once said this is like the "Seinfeld" of anime, definitely a great little learner for a gaijin interested in knowing more about everyday Japanese life.

Kagami just stuck to me (metaphorically speaking) right from the beginning. I don't know, I'm just sorta fond of her personality. Konata was fun, but she is the lead of the show, and since my favorite character is NEVER, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES the lead character, Kona-chan was out of the picture. Tsukasa didn't stick because her voice sounds like a 3-year-old. I can't stand that. And Miyuki, I didn't really like her because she talks in a voice thats way, way too polite.

Kagami reminds me of my mom. I don't mean that as an insult; my mom is also a bit cold, grouchy, and pessimistic but quite nice once you get to know her. Hmm, maybe I'll have to show her LS, and see if Kagami reminds her of herself as a teen.

Well, Konata is the funniest character of the show, but Kagami is simply the down-to-earth-but-still-cute girl that every good boy wants to bring back to mom ^^

First off, Miyuki's a good character, I'm not saying the opposite. She just could have been a lot better. Of course, she had her awesome moments; the school race for example, that kinda surprised me. But still...

...To me, Miyuki seems like a "forced moeblob", killing her appeal almost instantly. It's like you make a cake and put a terrific inedible amount of sugar in it. Even her mother feels funnier and more fit in the series. Also, considering moe, I'd say Kagami fills the role a lot better than her (but that's just my tsudere obsession). Oh, and whenever she starts explaining something...that's just...argh. I'm sorry, but that's simply how I feel about her.

Speaking of majority, people either loved it or hated it...deeply (partially because it's KyoAni we're talking about). Also, it has a lot of differences, compared to Azumanga.

Lucky Star is mostly oriented at the otaku fanbase. You have anime-exclusive gags, horrible milking of the Haruhi franchise, stuff like that. Another thing is the child-like appearance of the cast (not really high-schoolish, is it?), which turns off a lot of people.

Azumanga, on the other hand, had mature cast (excluding Chiyo-chan (not intellectualy, mind you :p ) and is oriented at everyone. Every single person that went to school can enjoy or easily relate to this piece. So I can quite easily see, why there is the popularity/hate difference from LS.

Interesting that it worked out that way; I thought more people would like Miyuki than Tsukasa. It seems like people often have more appreciation (or tolerance) for smart girls than dumb-but-cute ones.

(You couldn't possibly be that delusional. ;) ) I don't prefer to be involved in ship-wars - especially since I know that my favorite ship is non-canon to begin with - there isn't much to argue about.

Your mention of that particular fanboy does bring up the fact that some fans of less popular characters tend to develop a complex. For example, this Miyuki fan was of the impression that he was an enlightened individual because his favorite character was not one of the "popular" ones, and the only reason Miyuki wasn't popular was because everyone else (ie Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa fans) was a sheep. It shows how your enjoyment of your favorite can eventually lead to a perpetual dissatisfaction, or lack of enjoyment for the show in its entirety if you become obsessive.

Konata's my #1, but ranking the other three was hard, especially since all four are so likeable.

Ultimately, for me, the sweet, moe duo of Miyuki and Tsukasa are tied at #2. Tsukasa's just so adorably goofy, while Miyuki is pretty and appeals to my meganekko tastes.

#3 would be Kagami, but that's not to say she's horrible or anything. Her putting up a hard exterior to hide that soft interior makes her endearing... plus those eyes.

*Looks* Ah, I never did vote in this poll did? Well, I've been going through a refresher course of Lucky Star (I only have disc 6 left) and I've come to the conclusion that Hiiragi Kagami is my favorite.

I do like the other three and they each provide something to the show. It's just that in a sense Hiiragi Kagami sort of stands outs.

Second would have been Izumi Konata and then third would be Hiiragi Tsukasa. I guess this makes Takara Miyuki fourth and thus in last place as it were.

However don't think that means I dislike her. I actually do like her, but not as much as the other three.

Also, you can think of it this way. Sometimes the one in last place in show X is still way better than the person who is in first place in show Y.

Actually, if you want me to be truthful it's actually kind of close. On a different day, I might have voted for someone else. I mainly went with Kagami due to her "responses" to the others. That gave her the edge. So you might want to consider it a sort of tie.
