This thread is to be used for discussing the entire 26 episodes of Claymore ... your thoughts about the show, overall impressions, expectations and hopes about the DVD only footage, etc.
A few subjects you might want to ramble on about:
General impression of the series.
Opinions on the overall story, writing & plot devices.
Thoughts about the animation quality.
Characters/Character Design
Which kind of footage (DVD only) you feel you'd really like to see.
What the show meant to you.
What could the creators/animators/writers could have done better.
And so on.
The poll represents your total series rating. In other words, how you would rate all the episodes combined (1-10)? If you'd rather rate the whole series by technical/artistic merits, you can do so. For example:
Animation Quality: 1-10
Voice Actors: 1-10
Script: 1-10
Editing: 1-10
Emotional Involvement: 1-10
Average = Total Series Rating
Or a combination of the two. Or your general gut feeling. Feel free to discuss and more importantly, have fun :)
Please remember that this is not a manga thread. While you are free to discuss the anime series as much as you want, please do not include spoilers about anything that happens in the manga after Rigaldo is defeated. Such discussion would be inappropriate spoilers. Think of that as an alternate world which is just not the same story as the anime.
WOOT FIRST :D:D:D
I thought the overall series was well done, the ending helped make a nice seguay for a second season. Although the whole leaving raki with clare thing is going to have some major effects on the 2nd season if there is one. Though I wont base my rating with the manga in mind, but rather as an anime only perspective. Overall the animation was good and the storyline was just awesome. Now I can use my CLAYMORE BUSTER ava without any regrets:D

The anime was very suspenseful and kept me pretty entertained throughout. I gave it a bit lower score than I probably should have (a seven), because the last few episodes were quite terrible and felt completely out of place. Some notes: Raki's incessant crying, WTFBBQ DBZ BATTLE IN LAVA CRATER LOL RANDOM, leaving too many loose ends, and seeing Teresa's head get cut off for the 20574th time. I know I'm not supposed to bring it up but derailing from the manga didn't just hurt the series, it gouged its eyes out right before it crossed the finish line. So many key points and things that should've been kept the way they were will now alter the future course of the story and what the original author probably intended (I had a whole prediction about what Raki would do in the future...). It was hasty, to say the least. They should've waited till the manga was further before lunging towards the anime production.
So overall, it was good, but nothing amazing by any means. The series holds a lot of aesthetic value for myself (being a medieval / fantasy / berserk fan) and I would definitely recommend this to anyone with those common interests. I would not, however, dare compare this to Berserk - that's just blasphemy.

7 from me.
Claymore's story progress is quite similar to My Hime IMO; starts out moderately, gets really good near the middle, but fizzles at the end (and both have terrible endings, in different ways, but let's not get too deep into that). I started watching the anime before reading the manga, so I guess in many ways I am spared the torture of witnessing the Anime/Manga Deviation Point (AMDP), and of knowing how much better the story could have been.
As a fresh Claymore fan, I liked the setting of the story. Finally, here's a series where warriors are differentiated by their personalities and styles more than their weapons and costumes. The in-show art and backgrounds are really pretty as well, even with the limited grey-and-brown palette. Still a little too much talking during battles, but it's still better than many series so I shouldn't complain about that.
The whole warrior-turning-to-dark-side story mechanism was quite interesting at first, but now that people can break that point willingly and return, the story will have to depend on other mechanisms to stay fresh; I'm just starting on the manga and hope that it will be good, though from what I read here it seems I won't need to worry ^_^
The way the series ended, I'm confident there will be a 2nd season, and I will wait for it no matter how long it takes.

I hovered between 7 and 8 and decided on an 8, i think the beginning and middle were just so strong they carried the ending. If the ending had been pulled off better this easily could have been a 10.
8 for me. Started out strong, fell really badly at the bottom. If i were just to judge on the first 16~17 episodes it would be a definite 10, but I still feel that the ending was a disappointment. Storyline is good and suspenseful. (Episode 7 was the first episode in my whole anime viewing history that i actually felt "OMG NO!" when it ended XD ). Animation quality was also pretty high, so id say that it is well worthy of a 8.

8/10 total series. Ending was too soft.
2/10
The last few episodes shat all over what the rest of the series build up on. Fuck the Claymore anime.
7. A good show but unfortunately nothing more.
I wish for Madhouse to continue adapting great manga series, but please leave out their own "story" next time, which seemed like written by a 5 year old.
They'll better adapt completed series or ones that have a good point to end without destroying the story.
7. The Theresa Arc was totally awesome. (9-10 worth)
The rest was good stuff, but not that great.
I absolutely hate the music (not the OP-ED which were decent) and I couldn't help but laugh everytime the Star Wars's TIE-Fighter laser's sound was used.
I voted 8, but after thinking and writing this post, I thought I should lower my note. (can't change my vote though)

I value a lot endings. It can make a crappy story a wonderful work, or a good story become a total crap. Sadly for Claymore was the later.
Considering the manga story, I would give the anime an average rate. However, as the anime deviated from the manga, I must consider the anime as a whole, and ignore the manga events.
With the ending this horrible, I end with a story with potential who is completely obliterated by the ending. It was just too painful to see such story get wasted in such retarded way. (Raki saving Priscila's ass, Claire ending without a reason to exist, too many out-of-characters, nothing revelated about organization, etc etc etc etc) For me, that painful feeling completely overwhelm my joy from seeing the manga events well animated.
So, if I had to consider ep1-19 and forget 20-26 I would give it good. But to consider it as a whole I just can't forgive the ending

10- for me.
The first 20 episodes of Claymore are really that epic that they actually covered up the poor ending for me, otherwise its definitely a perfect 10.
Esp the Teresa arc.... its just so exquisitely extroadinary beautiful tragedy......
and actually love the ranking system in the organisation where more powerful Claymores keep on appearing and had a encounter with the protagonist..... my type of shounen drama....
hoping for a 2nd season.......

8/10 for me. It had a great plot. Kinda fell towards the end. I loved the animation.
One more thing... TOO MUCH RAKI!!!!
It gets a 7, if 20-26 had been followed as well as the Teresa arc (which is 10 material) it would've gotten a 9.

Animation Quality: 8.5
Voice Actors: 8
Script: 9.5
Editing: 6.5
Emotional Involvement: 9
Music:9
Average: 8.4
Rating above is for claymore generally but more for anime. Moment I watched first episode of claymore I could tell it was going to be at the top of my list to watch for this season, still is.
Animation quality, good no other real comment on this criteria.
Voice Acting, generally well done minor thing that I disliked was how I dislike how 80% yoma energy release sounds more like an awakened being, i.e Ophelia and Riful sound fine as awakened as contrasted to Clare sounding like she was more yoma than them, that's just my personal opinion.
Script, for claymore generally I love the script down to the very small details even reading the manga as some say it takes out the thrill of watching, in this case in only made me want to watch it just as much if not more.
Editing, I'll make this the 20-26 "edit", I personally didn't like it I dislike the way things played out, I dislike the way the ending hypes up a battle then ends it as if the battle didn't happen only leaving the knowledge that there was a battle, I personally don't see how this is better than following the manga. Though I disliked it, it was bearable and enjoyable enough to watch.
Emotional attachment, As said above, claymore was the top show for me this season and I don't think I've been as hyped up about any other anime as much as claymore if not, not in a very long time that beign said this is for claymore in general.
Music: Opening and ending songs were perfect, BGM were done well at times and at other good scenes they're weren't used or not used properly, and ED->Riyu Kosaka-> BeForU favourite group thanks to claymore xD.
So, overall a rating of 8.4 rounded to 8
7/10. The last episodes after Pieta, turn the 9/10 down to 7/10....
Um, did someone notice it? The Hall effect in Rakis voice yelling "Clare" so many times? Looks like the Voice actor for Raki where in a small Cabin and the Sound dude, didn't filter this Hall effect in his voice act. But strange, that the Voices for the Females where good... Or they used the Raki's "Clare" to mutch, without taken notice to it...
And please... Do not overuse the "Moto, Moto, Moto, Moto Power"... It can be bad, after third time hearing this... "Moto" or "Full Power" is better... or More, a bit. Not enough. Just not good.. Need more strength... Thats better then ever use "Moto, Moto, Moto, Moto Power"...

although i vote a 10 for mad house quality but still unsatisfied about the ending,if it follows manga very closely and leave cliffhanger for OAV/season2 then it would be the most awesome anime i ever watch.

Animation Quality: 8
Voice Actors: 8
Script: 6.5
Editing: 6.5
Emotional Involvement: 7
Good: Good voice acting by the girls (though choice for Flora is bit strange) , nice set piece scenes (Theresa's fight) , nice build-up, atmospheric art, brutal characterization, pragmatic view of things
Bad: Embarrassingly corny dialogue (Raki especially), unrealistic character development, some fight scenes too simplistic, some characters were neglected, not very good background music
Solid 7 from me, I already purchase the DVD of Claymore. Quite a good effort and I enjoyed it a lot despite some misgivings in ep 20 - 26.
Animation Quality: 9
Voice Actors: 9 ( 10 for Teresa, Miria and Clare)
Script: 9
Editing: 8
Emotional Involvement: 9 (10 for Teresa and Clare moments)
Music: 9
Sound Effects: 10
Claymore Positives
Nice background art.
Nice medieval vilages and danger places.
Nice sword fights.
Many cool characters, not only the main characters.
Great music and sound effects.
Claymore Negatives
It is over now.
not sure about a new season.
Raki is not death.
I have had an enormously good time watching Claymore. Of all the series I have been following, this has been the one I always anticipated the most, I couldn't wait for the new release. I always watched in awe as the plot and battle unfolded, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plot was very engaging, almost too good, since they didn't have time to explore it all. The characters were very well designed and they managed to introduce a good amount of different ones without the series becoming chaotic. I don't think I've ever seen this many interesting characters in one anime. Strength in numbers, certainly. Mirria, Helen, Jeane, Clare, Teresa, Flora, Riful, Easley, Ophelia, Galatea, Irene, Undine, I adored them all. I might even have left someone out.
I was especially fond of the Teresa and Ophelia arcs, those were some of finest works I've seen in a while, and also some of the most interesting characters.
The only thing that I found to be a little flawed was the ending, as many others have pointed out before me. The Priscilla fighting sequence at the volcano just seemed a little too shounen, but the last half of episode 26 gave a very nice, open ending that I thought contrasted the flawed first half. I really, really hope there'll be more Claymore animated in the future, but if not, I'll be sure to read the manga, which I've already begun picking up a few volumes of. Not that easy to get a hold of around these parts, though.
I was always highly entertained when I watched Claymore, it was the show of the season for me and I'm so glad I didn't miss out on it. All in all I think I'll rate it a 9.5, and give it a 9 rating here. A strong 9, and one of the animes I don't think I'll ever forget.

Animation Quality: 8; would have been higher, but it fell and jumped alot.
Voice Actors: 9; They did an excellent job here, only Flora's voice and the "warped voices" stopped this from being a 10
Script: 9 until they started to diverge, it became a 5 after that, it went downhill so fast.
Editing: 8; they really did not do too good of a job with certain scenes, they felt very clunky, but overall it was still good.
Emotional Involvement: 7; I really felt for every character, until the end with the butchering of Raki and several other characters' well...character.
Music: 7; the music was really wierd at alot of points, but some of the songs really grew on me, the opening and the ending were always great though.
Sound Effects: 8; tie fighter sound effects, I mean really...most of the other sound effects were quite good though
Gave the series an 8 overall, they earlier episodes were amazing, and despite the animation quality that would jump from episode to episode, I still enjoyed the look throughly.
The last few episodes really killed the series for me, I just could not enjoy what they were doing to the story.

This series was like a bumpy ride for me - it was like a two-humped camel with two really high points (the Theresa Arc and the Northern Campaign) a good but not too impressive middle part and a really weak beginning and ending.
It started off like a generic shounen series with a little more blood and gore than usual. The first four episodes were pretty boring and I was already considering dropping the show after episode 4 but I'm glad I did not make that mistake.
Then came the Teresa Arc, which in my opinion and probably for many more of you guys featured the best episodes in the series(5-8). Episode 6 was one of the most emotional episodes I have seen in anime. Ep's 7-8 featured some of the best action fight scenes accompanied by superb animation and music. The conclusion of episode 8 was a literal jaw-dropper! I was so shocked that I couldn't take my eyes of the screen and I decided to follow this series until the end.
Throughout the next ten or so episodes the show remained consistently strong and had enough action and intrigue to keep me watching it. Some high points during this middle part were the return of Irene, who was my favorite of the Teresa hunting squad, the introduction of the Abyssal Ones and the fight against Ophelia. Nevertheless, none of those short arcs quite reached the level of excitement of the Theresa Arc.
The Northern Campaign was the second high point of the series. It started off introducing several new characters - Flora, Undine, and returned a few "old favorites" - Miria, Helen, Deneve. I could really feel that something big was coming up and I was not disappointed - the coming fight scenes surpassed all the others in the middle part of the show. The culmination and the best part of this arc was definitely the fight against Rigaldo. First, the ease with which he dispatched with four(3 actually) of the strongest characters was really chilling. It was really sudden to see some characters who just got introduced to be butchered so easily. Second, the fight of Clare against Rigaldo was one of the most emotional and tense moments of the show. I could really feel Clare's anger and frustration escalate.
Unfortunately, after Rigaldo's death the show plunged downhill again. Here's where it started differentiating from the manga. I thought initially that the script writers differentiated from the manga in order to bring the story to a logical conclusion. Unfortunately that did not happen and the outcome of the anime was the same as in the manga with a few exceptions. The last couple of episodes featured some overly used cliches and some really cheesy moments, so that's why I didn't like them at all. I felt like it was a huge disappointment after the awesome previous episodes. I would be fine if they followed the manga and ended it at the end of the Northern campaign or if they decided to change the ending and bring the story to a close. Unfortunately, they did neither.
Overall, I would recommend people to read the manga, since it is a really great work and watch several key episodes animated - the Theresa Arc(5-8) and the Northern Campaign(18-24), since they were superbly animated.
7/10

A 9 rating from me. An excellent show, and definitely within my top three anime's of all time (perhaps even tied for number one overall).
Highlights:
- a fully realized setting/world, strong characterization, and a story/plot that deeply immersed viewers
- the strongest, best job of setting up, and most shockingly realized motivation for any protagonist I think I've ever witnessed (Clare watching Theresa die)
- great use of setup (when required) in the few slower episodes to give stronger emotional impact to what follows (Pieta is the best example of this)
- excellent op and ed songs, and an epic, sometimes unique soundtrack, with several good songs that have stuck in my head
- avoiding a stock good-guy kills bad-guy ending, and instead focusing on the internal battle fought by both...the protagonist wins and the antagonist loses, but not in the expected manner
- a show that I will watch again and again more than any other, as there is a lot of depth to the story (starting around ep 5 or 6 I watched each newly released ep twice in a row so that I wouldn't miss anything)
- great animation quality and use of visuals/direction to tell the story, many times giving it the greatest impact possible I believe
- the pathos in the way Claymores are "set apart" from human society, although they work to save and protect it...my favourite type of setting
- the fact that there is a possibility of a second season :D
Difficulties:
- overuse of mook youmas
- the excellent soundtrack could have been used better at times
- the whole Riful arc was average, dragged noticeably in the Dauph battle, and introduced an unneeded (and dare I say inappropriate) loli character (I truly dislike loli's where "they don't need a reason to exist -- they're loli!" Ha!)
- some dragging and pacing problems with a couple of the final episodes, including the long Rigaldo and Priscilla fights, and the number and length of flashbacks and recaps
- a lack of a truly great villain overall:
org was very promising, and future hints are given that this will play a bigger role, but their motivation never got explored and they ended up only two dimensional
AOs (Riful, Easley) appeared stupid and anemic in leaving opponents alive and unharmed, and as a result did not feel fully challenging to the reader/viewer, even though they challenge the protagonist(s)...IMO great villains should do both (see online discussions of Jon Irenicus in Baldur's Gate 2 for an example of a great villain as I describe)
the internal struggles (controlling youki as the main representation of this) were the best villain overall, being well set up and with several shifts in their understandings (partial awakenings, Jeane's mind vs body separation, etc), plus they included many meaningful metaphorical interpretations (anger, self-loathing, understanding oneself, the monster within us all, etc), but unfortunately they just did not get quite enough of the story time IMO, therefore it felt a bit strange when they returned to the fore, completely eclipsing (tee hee) the other conflicts in the last episodes
the struggle for Claymores to be accepted as humans was well set up, but again, similar to the org, was never really explored, and any resolution of this is pretty much forgotten at this point, though again, Raki's actions and Miria's words point toward some interesting possible future developments
- some of the battles appeared cartoonish, in the way the characters barely moved their swords, and the animation quality dropped noticeably therein (even the best fight sequence of Theresa's battle royale -- which will likely reach legendary anime status in the years to come -- suffered at times from this)
So, most of the difficulties only tend to highlight the good parts, and are minor overall.
The worst part of Claymore, however, has to be that there is a manga version of it. No question about it. DIE MANGA DIE!!! ;)

I gave it a 8/10.
I absolutely love Claymore and it was wonderful to see the scenes in the manga animated. it became the anime I looked forward to watching every week and I would rant and grumble about how long it would take for the next episode to come on and get subbed (which was subbed very nicely and quickly so thank you very much Eclipse :)).
It was wonderful until the part it started deviating from the manga. I haven't even READ the chapters released in Japan and so far only kept up with the American release (I just know the basics of what happened after the war) and even I could tell that the show was going downhill. The episodes became slower, being dragged out by boring Raki scenes and flashbacks (oh why did they have to show Teresa's head getting chopped off a gazillion times?) Then came the ending and oh god was it rushed, rushed and cliche. What's even worse is that they STILL left it with an open ended ending. I think an opened ended ending that was faithful to the manga would have been much better IMO.
Well this series really deserved a 9-10 from me, but sadly the last few episodes brought the overall score down since they were very disappointing to the point I didn't even make it my priority to watch the last episode as soon as it came out. O well it was still fun and now it's time to catch up to the manga!

I'm writing the review without reading anyone else's thoughts beforehand.
I believe tis series was good, though not great. I would recommend the first portion of the anime to anyone who like action anime. In truth, the series peaked at episode 8, because the Teresa storyline was so strong. However, after that it begins a steady decline. Up until around episode 20, I would say that the show is still very strong. However, after episode 20 the quality starts to go downhill as the writing begins to faulter.
The series was inconsistent. It had some great moments, and a few very good story arcs. But it also had a poor ending, and Raki was just plain annoying.
Overall, I would recommend the series, but I would say not to expect much from the ending.

I'll be very happy with it, if my hopes that the anime ended purposefully ambiguously for allowing a second season divorced from the burden of the manga.
Even if that doesn't happen, I thought it was pretty good, though not as dark at the end as I'd hoped...
this anime was great until it blew up in FLAMES toward the end.

Yeah I have a feeling it was ended like that because it opened a chance for a second season of the anime with no manga storyline to burden it, but still if a second season does start, I think it'll fail miserably if the writing quality doesn't improve from how it was the last few episodes.

Hopefully they'll learn more words than "unforgivable" and "kill!"
Another thing that makes me suspect a second season are all the "side chapters" coming out, which I suspect gave the manga-ka some time to help write anime script framework, or help with said anime script writing. Nonetheless, I think that most of the second season will be along the lines of "days in the life of a fugitive claymore" than any overarching story arc...
Ugh. I just got a horrible brain-fart! Crossing Claymore 2nd Season with the quality and style of episodes from "He-Man"!!! I may need to sear my eyeballs out of their sockets...
6/10 animation sux. makeup story sux.
I hope Karas artists get to do the next season.

I liked the series very well, the only thing that I see as huge FAIL is the ending, the last episodes were so painful to watch.

A good anime relative to everything that's out there, but unsatisfying for me personally. I was hoping for something more serious, but this became an exercise in take-backs. I greatly dislike take-backs in series that make it seem in the beginning that they aren't going to have (many of) them. (As opposed to series where take-backs are a given from the beginning.) I don't know why people were surprised about the ending, I expected something like that after take-backs started as early as in the first AB hunt. (Technically with Clare's awakening in the church, but I gave them that.) I might not normally root for something like The Org, but in this case I rooted for them to get all the cheaters eliminated :)
Here's my 25 page essay on claymore for those of you who are interested :)
Overall the show was good except that the ending was bad.

overall, the anime was really good.
but when the fight in Pieta began and the series was coming to an end, it kinda started going downhill....
maybe if raki hadnt tried and interfered with everything, the ending might have been better!
but anyway, claymore was overall a great anime and definitely one that i will watch again in the future!!

I'm surprised so many people hated the ending, since that was pretty much what saved this show for me. It started degenerating into mindless action towards the end, particularly with the fight against Rigardo which promised so much, but delivered so little, but the ending, while not actually resolving anything, had the required amount of drama and tension and a good plot-twist which played to a theme of redemption-over-revenge. But, more importantly, it made Claymore feel like a "story" again, rather than just another throwaway action anime. It had the same sort of feeling as the backstory arc, which was the clear highlight of the anime.
Anyway, I'm giving this a "7". When reflecting on Claymore, I tend to think of events, like the backstory, the comradery between the Slashers, the battle with Riful and saving of Jeane, and then the ending whereJeane returns the favour to Clarerather than all the fights and whatnot. Obviously Raki was a low-point in all of this, but I tolerate his character a lot more than I tolerated Shirou from F/SN, who a lot of people compare him to. I think Madhouse's efforts of establishing atmosphere with subtle use of music and directing need to be complimented as well... although, as we know, they're really good at this sort of stuff.
Ultimately, this is a series with flaws, but there's enough good stuff here to make it worthwhile and, while I'm clearly in the minority on this, I really liked the ending. On the whole, not brilliant or terribly innovative, but not bad either. It's a really old-fashioned anime in a sense, but it's quite memorable in some instances, so I liked it.
Well, that's sums up. The anime ended with the advent of the autumn season that starts this week, but the storyline keeps going on in the manga. In addition, that Claymore is the first title from the spring season which I finished all.
The title's name appealed much to my interest, particularly with the wave of posts repeatedly expressing their content and amazement that Claymore was getting an anime adaptation.
I didn't know what to expect back in late March, henceforth, I joined the hundreds of fans out there (in other words, you people) and gave it a shot to Claymore anime.
I was never let down at all once I watched the first episodes. It avoided most of the traditional shounen cliché which typical of the stories of the genre to start the show or introducing the characters.
Rather it set the plot in motion with the introduction of the characters right away, as the first four episodes made their job to answer the basic questions on what is going on in the mainstream world of Claymore.
The Teresa arc essentially answered the key questions on regards to Clare and her drive for becoming a Claymore, as well as introducing one of the most powerful yet charismatic characters in the likes of Teresa; my vote for the Best Female Character of the Year is guaranteed to her.
The Slashers arc introduced several faces which would become supporting and yet characters with their own weights and pasts in the likes of Miria, Deneve, and Helen. Successfully portraying as believable with their own sets of troubles, tribulations, and tragic memories.
People became highly displeased with how things turned downhill at the middle of the Northern Campaign arc, and outraged with the conclusion of the anime-original Priscilla arc.
I do not possess stricts standards as to properly judge adaptations into anime like several manga viewers do, and I cannot tell otherwise to the legion of many anime viewers that felt betrayed or at least not happy with the conclusion.
To myself I tend to judge anime and manga separately and not as the same thing. I as well felt a little bit down that few things (in my case) went too easy, cliché or inconsistent with the outcome to the conclusion.
However, there were quite a few to some salvageable incidences within the last arc, and not let's forget that for the previous twenty episodes, which faithfully followed the manga from head to toe, delivering a compelling story through its characters that are driven by the realization of their own limitations, sense of guilt, and fears rather than their strengths.
At least I can well say that the last episode dropped a fair share of hints about the main characters making their quest of preparations for their coming comeuppance against the organization.
The Org is an ironclad power whose motives remain as of unknown in the anime (yet to be revealed in the manga), but nonetheless, to my understanding have influenced humanity's sheer terror of yoma to rely exclusively upon them for help.
And not everything in this world can be perfect. Claymore was not the exception; sooner or later the cliché and formulaic shounen had to butt into the series.
However, I am surprised that most of the mainstream population voted an average of 80% for Claymore in general. With things going wrong for the rest of the fans on how the series ended I was expecting a mainstream average of 70%, but guess that even for a poor ending that isn't enough for the many fans out there to discourage them on liking the rest of the anime.
I'm very glad to lastly expressed my thoughts for Claymore. Soon, the Claymore thread is going to move into the Old Series subforums, and the voices which have been keeping it busy would go down quietly, leaving only the main core of Claymore otakus to continue disscussion of the manga monthly issues now that the manga storyline is about to resume again in November.
The only thing that I dislike, that was not precisely the end for me, was their off-timed use of the music for certain tensed situations throughout the episodes. Some music tracks just felt out of place or did not fit at all with a particular, anguished scene.
Overall, I rated Claymore with the average of the sum of all ratings that I gave to each individual episodes, earning an average of 86.53%

I give it an 8/10 overall. My kind of anime, with heavy action almost every episode, but the ending was unsatisfactory and we didn't get to see, in my opinion, enough of the growing relationship between Clare and Raki. My problem with that in particular was that their escape from Ophelia and the subsequent struggles seemed all for nothing, as nothing really happened between them in the end. Lame.

Replying to everyone who think the ending was justified as Madhouse needed to close the season:
I ask you: Do we can consider it as an "ending"? What conclusions do it have, which where not shown in manga, that justify its deviation from the manga or flat-cheesy quality?
Let's analyse it. The anime, as in the manga, (considering the timeline where the anime ended) ...
- ... the Organization's background was not covered
- ... Priscila is still alive
- ... the fate of Claymores in Pieta where not covered
- ... the fate of the Awakened army where not covered
- ... the purpose of Isley was not covered
Now let's see the trade-off we had if the same timeline ended like in manga: (not considering the possibility of the anime ending in other points of the manga)
If the anime ended like in manga:
- We would end in a cliffhanger where Claymores are hopelessly fighting against Awakened Beings
- No plot explained or concluded
The end presented in anime:
- We STILL end in a cliffhanger where Claymores are fighting and dying in Pieta. The anime simply play dumb and completely ignore it (through ep 25-26), hoping the viewer forgot about Pieta's situation. (Claymores wounded and ABs still alike)
- No plot explained, and almost none concluded. The only conclusion is Raki finding Claire, which have 0% of setimental value. Priscila is still alive, meaning Claire's vengeance was not concluded.
So, what conclusion do this ending bring? What good do this end is, anyway (to explain it being made)?

Simple reason, why people compare it to the manga, we all wanted a second season, and how Claymore could of been way more awesome. But with how the show ended, there is hardly any chance of that happening. They would have to rewrite the whole story. Also they pretty much made the biggest badness villain in all of Claymore look like a wimp.
I'm surprised so many people hated the ending, since that was pretty much what saved this show for me.
Well, depend on that little thing. If there will be a 2nd Season.
If its not, then i wont changed my rating of 7/10. Because, they used so many scenes for build ups. Fight. "You killed Teresa, i wont never forgive you". "You killed Momy and Pappy. Youma must die!!".
Then... Yes how saved the Day? But crushed the Big end?...
Buuuuuuuuttttttt.......
If there will be a 2nd Season. Then its a good Cliffhanger...then i would give it a 9/10.
But then they must bend a bit the Manga Storyline to fit in. Or they don't care about Manga Storyline, and will do a own Story.. So only take the Manga as a Base....
See... It depends on a little thing :)
Now what? What could possibly fill this huge gap that's been created on tuesdays because of the end of Claymore .Anybody has any good recommended new series that can replace Claymore on tuesdays.:(

The series gets a 7 from me. From 18 afterwards i watched and basically lost interest. But i always no matter what watch from start to finish. Teresa's intro and short coming of her life but explaining why Claire was attached to her is one of the best parts of the anime and manga.

The whole anime was good for me...BUT.....
the ending really spoilt it for me....first, Priscilla gets to live and that perennial pest (Raki) would be following Clare. Damn....
Otherwise, this would have been a great anime. Hope there would be a second season?

I really hope NOT seeing a 2nd season. It would be depressing to see the whole "Mama Papa" and Raki whines again. And now that Claire is a purposeless bitch there is no really much sense for the show go on, besides showing some more guroed-hentai tentacle fights.
I would very much enjoy a second season. They wouldn't necessarily have to focus solely on Clare this time, all the renegade Claymores have interesting stories now, not to mention the organization itself and Riful. Clare isn't really purposeless, she might not have the same drive, but what she's lost in seeking a specific goal, she's gained in will to survive and live on.

Despite being rife with shounen cliches, Claymore managed to enough things differnet and intelligent to hold my interest. The last few episodes had a good thing going with the anyone-can-die element (I wouldn't be surprised if Clare gets offed at some point in the future), and it certainly didn't pull punches in most places. On the whole, however, it feels a bit incomplete, which is probably because there's a story at least this long waiting to be told after the point at which the anime stopped, so I won't fault it for that.
Emotion was played up much heavier than in other shows of its ilk, which I loved. In fact, despite various events in episode eight, Priscilla managed to come flying by and secure the spot of favorite character. I was always on the edge of my seat whenever she'd appear, and watching her psychosis manifest, recede, and warp was a joy.
Another thing I noticed is that many times I would see the story or a character do something odd - something that just didn't feel right or seemed to be a small thump from the writer jumping on board. However, most of these would be rationalized in surprising ways later on (Irene comes to mind), catching me off-guard.
So, for being an enjoyable action series which sincerely tried to be different and managed to succeed in some areas, Claymore gets an 8.
I gave it a 7.. Would've been a 9 if I knew theres a 2nd season coming. I'm looking forward to one at least.
When I was watching the series I was hoping for a better end but the whole series in itself was very good actually. I enjoyed it =)
Hello
I think it was worth a 10, although i've got to say that the series started to suggest complete different feelings and matter after episode 7, which I started to dislike early.
The whole scale has started to change for me and Claymore, as introduced by Clare, Raki and Teresa from EP 1 to 7, became something different to me. The focus went into ultra-long, most-of the-time boring fights with just a few excellent and amazing elements, most of the emotional parts have been reduced to Clare vs. Priscilla.
Episodes 20+ finally started to stab the feeling and the elegance I knew of Claymore.
I know the anime turned out to have a different ending than the manga, but in my humble opinion the last third of EP 26 saved my thoughts about the series (don't beat me please :D) Mainly because it offered screentime without AOs, distorted faces and stereotypic dialogues since a long time ago again.
It may sound odd, but in case a season 2 will come, I would have liked to see Priscilla dead at the end of EP26, since she was pretty annoying (besides some Raki parts :D), and i don't like to watch her again.
But in the end it was an amazing series to watch!
Cheers
I gave it a 9/10. The only reason I didn't give it a full score was because I felt that the ending screwed up what was otherwise a magnificent story and plot development (basically, after Rigardo was killed that's when I think everything went downhill fast).
I haven't been into anime as much in the last 2-3 years (and haven't been posting nearly as often on these forums as a result), but this series really grabbed me like few others have. I love any anime with a good story and well-developed, individual characters. The motivations and mannerisms of the characters (particularly, the Claymores) were superb IMO. Plus, you can't beat hot bodied chicks fighting demons with gigantic swords! :heh:

Overall, a nice anime. The beginning + the middle portions are really good, but towards the end of the anime, there are just way too many power ups. THe last episode was alright, the ending just spells a second season, imo. 8/10, could have been higher, but I dont think it deserves anything lower than a 7, even if it doesn't follow the manga all the way through.

The ending was alright not the greatest.
Best parts for me was Theresa Arc and Pieta Arc - Awesome fight scenes, great intensity and emotional involvement.
When I finished Claymore the ending did not leave on me that sensation of void which happens everytime that I conclude a title.
No, actually I felt just the conclusion to one arc, and it clearly encourages on me that there's more to show in the horizon. There were no ending credits rolling when everyone said their farewells or when Raki witnessed Clare paying her last respects to Jean's grave. And the episode ended with the usual ending video and song.
In fact, when Clare's voice narrated the preview to episode twenty-six she did not refer to it as last episode but next one.
As I posted in the episode 26 thread, the conclusion ranged from decent to satisfying, and favorably I did not felt it average in anyway to me.
I am as well interested for the last eight posts that came before mine right now. There as well some favorable scenes in the last episode and not just the ones dealing about the Org.
Even when the mainstream fans felt bitter and resentful with the downs, particularly at episode 26, still the overall storyline was highly engaging.
Everyone from a minor to major extent played their contributions. I know that at the bottom of my heart the last episode would have been improved upon if there had been a major sense of loss, not necessarily a fatalist one. But some important loss to evoke tragedy that would spring a sense of commitment on Clare to change the outlook of her revenge and modify her priorities.
I rated the last episode with a 73%, and I would have made a jump to rate it with an 81% had they clearly explicit portrayed Clare to change the outlook of her revenge against Priscilla. Instead of killing her as a monster to bring her down as a warrior.
^Seska agreed that even that resolve could well be a viable reason to the purpose of her revenge.
To me, as I am not speaking on behalf of anybody else save for me, the ending could have become very good if Raki got hurt, no unlike the mainstream I do not hold any grudges against the lad, as the last words he said to Clare touched and made contact on her to bring out her humanity.
Jean steps at the last minute to receive the rest of the fatal blow and pays back her debt.
Clare returns to normal, but Jean's death coupled with the fact that she unwillingly severely wounded Raki devastates her to near depression.
Isley swoops in to pick up Priscilla and kidnaps Raki in the process for a single purpose. He figured out on the first time that when he met him Priscilla took a liking to the boy.
Why? Maybe just like Isley commented that Raki comes from the South, and he has a familiar scent to which Priscilla can familiarize and identify with it, thus getting attached.
Isley would know too well that Raki would be the only viable safeguard to make Priscilla stay calm and happy.
From here on Clare goes separate ways with the slashers trio but cross swords to meet them again, as she reflects upon why she seeks revenge.
It comes to the conclusion that if she wants to prevent her revenge from becoming meaningless to herself for those that she lost but its purpose not to be defeated by becoming a monster of hatred in order to truly fullfill it she decides to live on as a human for those who are still alive, recalling fervently Rakis' words that she must live human among human which coincidentally or by fate were the same words that Teresa spoke to her.
To live human in order to keep on getting stronger to use her revenge for two purposes now:
1. To destroy Priscilla as a warrior not as a monster of hatred.
2. As a drive to save and bring Raki back to her side, since she no longer wants to lose anybody else.

For analysis purposes, I'm looking at the anime as two different sections here;
Firstly, from the beginning through Clare's encounter with Riful - Wonderful. The anime did a great job, far exceeding the limitations of the manga. The Teresa arc was pure brilliance, from the origins of episode 5 through the rising action of 6 and 7, all the way through episode 8's climax, it's among the best executed chunk of any anime I've ever seen. The following arc (The Slashers) only added to this pinnacle, by again faithfully adopting and surpassing what the manga was able to do. Mood, scenery, music, and animation were each outstanding.
Past Clare's encounter with Riful, when she headed to the north, things started to slide, for multiple reasons. Now, firstly, I'm not gonna bitch and complain about the ending. I'm in acceptance of what is was for what it had to be - the manga was faithfully followed, but they decided to go for a one-shot, 26 episode approach, so naturally things had to change with the manga stated to only be about half over. The anime team was stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to conclude things, having the storyline, when considered relative to the manga, being far from over and not in a particularly great place to wrap things up. But a lackluster ending isn't the only problem. Everything went downhill.
With only 56 minutes of original soundtrack to work with and already exhausted, the score became repetitive and stale. The animation budget was starting to thin, and certain aspects, especially combat, began to look far less impressive and rather bland compared to earlier episodes. So, of course, these two factors played very much into a much more lackluster adaptation of the War in the North than how earlier arcs were treated. I just found the episodes packing far less umph as earlier ones.

9/10.
It was great while it lasted from character development, emotional attachment, and mystery plot.
The areas that it was weak in was definitely music, and corny NUMBER 1--47 system. I just got tired of hearing all this power level stuff, because at one point thats all i read/herd. (i guess most anime/manga stuff have to do some sort of power ranking one way or another)

I rated it a 9/10
It was a great run while it lasted. The strong point was definitely the Teresa arc episodes 6 and 7. I remember watching episode 6 multiple times just to see that kickass scene where Noel and Sophia are first seen and defeat a whole bunch of yoma effortlessly. Those two episodes singlehandedly cemented Claymore as my favorite anime of the Spring season (at that point).
The weak points were the final few episodes and the implementation of the music. The last few episodes just didn't grab my attention as much as the earlier episodes did. Regarding the music, there were lots of times it felt like the accompanying BGM didn't belong in a certain scene.
I don't know if anyone said anything about character designs but I noticed that some characters looked slightly different from their manga counterparts, mainly Teresa and Jean. If you watch one of the promo trailers for Claymore, Teresa looked much more like her manga counterpart. I think it was the eyes...

Excellent anime, that I now consider a classic.
Contrarily to many, who seem married to the manga and maybe having its children, I think MH has done an excellent job including the ending, the best possible imho considering the circumstances (slight problem with Raki, easily Patchable).
Easy 10/10 for me, specially when aside from that I have recently seen horrors (as in terrible) like Tokko or average (though ok-good) shows like Kaze no Stigma...
Here's to hope that MH gets to pick up more seasons some time in the future for Claymore!

Really? I thought Claymore had an excellent soundtrack, with background music that really set the mood, whether it be a fierce battle or a tragic flashback. The opening and ending theme were some of the better I've heard as well.

Might be referring to the almost comical placement of background music. I mean, a light and happy piece plays in the middle of the teresa/priscilla battle and it made me laugh out loud. True you should be happy that teresa is kickin butt, but the music is almost whimsical. If you hear the music out of context and it is good, but they place it in weird spots.

Claymore as an anime was really well done in my opinion. The animation was really well done and not half assed as some of the other action type animes do during the fighting scenes. The plot and character development were okay, not necessarily the greatest but it was still good enough for me to watch religiously every week.
My final verdict: 86/100
Music could had been both improved upon and varied its choices of musical tracks as my most major complaint.
Overall, great story and a positive development for the characters.
Ending good and decent after watching the last episode about four times.
Raki at last said words that meant to Clare so that she could relate and identify with.
Clare finally smiled after staying stoic throughout most of the series.:)

I gave claymore 9/10
I like the beginning so much action it was the first time since my anime watching since I have seen it (action). it blew me away to see all that was going on and anticipation was great but like most of the rest of the comments the ending died pretty hard and the ending was what I thought but who knows maybe they will revive the series with a new one and make that one as bad ass as the start of this one.

Watching the first 4 episodes showed a painfully slow story development, I was getting rather bored but somehow kept on watching, possibly in hope to see more Claymores and find out how they actually come about...when the Theresa arc kicked in I was immediatly hooked on it. The emotional involvment and character development was great from there onwards up untill the last two episodes. I lost interest in the series after Rigardo showed his hairy ass on the battle field and dragged the fight out over 3 episodes if im not mistaken...almost Naruto-style!
Overall I would give the series an 8/10. Amen

The fight with rigaldo was pretty much about 2 eps and a tad bit more.
Naruto style is 10-20 eps actually. Plus if it was naruto style they would of talked for 30 mins after every single move they did.

I voted 9/10.
I really liked the show, and I agree with those who think that with a different ending the rate could have been 10/10.
This anime makes its strongest point in getting a lot of people to read the manga. And as I just said, has its weakest spot in its ending, which balances between the will to give a true end to the show and the desire to leave some doors open for a second season.
I would have done things differently: I would have Priscilla killing Raki and Clare killing Priscilla, for example. I would have insisted more on Clare's "bankai" instead of putting Teresa's rolling head again and again on the screen.
And I would have just made an introduction to season 2 sticking to the manga and providing a different ending to season 1, if a season 2 would ever come out.
But the show had some very intense moments, with Teresa and Ophelia for example, and I had true moment of pain throughout the serie.
I also enjoyed the opening and the closing music, a little less the bgm, even if it did its job.
So I can say that Claymore was of the best shows I saw for this season, and pretty unique in its kind.
First 22 episodes.. epic win.. after that epic fail.
22/26 = 84.6% max score.
Belittling any buildup for character development.
- Irene's reason to go hiding due to Pris's enourmous power now feel so cheap. the weakling Clare could and would have beheaded her without fully awaken. -5%
- Org plotline is left open end with no closure at all. Might as well go for an absolute open end ending like the Pieta arc in the manga IMO. -5%
- Introduce plot holes, while it didnt detract much ( ie who the hell buried all those claymore that Raki found) did do enough damage to the overall score
- Riful arc now adds to nothing but to introduced Isley, not even the 3rd one is introduced.
- Power level up to Clare felt so cheap. And Pris nerfage is a disgrace.
- Anime Raki.
Conclusion... Not wasting my time and money buying the DVD =.=

Gave it a 9/10.
Nice anime, lots of action and I like the anime ending even though I read the manga.
Wish they would make a season two but eh, maybe that is impossible. Only time will tell. :s
I gave it 7/10. I don't usually watch monster/battle series, but after a friend's recommendation this caught my interest.
The relationships and the psychotic personalities of the Claymores were certainly most interesting. This was, unfortunately, largely offset by completely pointless monsters and baddies whose repertoire was pretty much limited to "growl" and "I want to eat guts". The organization shows some promise as a baddie should a second season happen, as does Easley, but in general I'd really like to see baddies with more complex motives than "likes eating guts". Why do they like it so much anyway?
After the Claymores in Pieta started getting along with each other, things started dragging pretty badly. The "sword that goes *clink* but suddenly makes monster salami after a bit more power-up" schtick got seriously worn out. But as said, the organization and the Claymores made things interesting before that.

I shall give this anime a 8. I think the overall plot and execution was done quite well and from episode to episode the story, animation, characters keep pulling you in and leaving you broken until you receive your weekly claymore fix. :uhoh:
I agree with some of the previous reviewers... The BGM music was absolutely horrible. :frustrated: Especially in the later episodes. Eps 22 I rember bgm coming in mid-fight off cue it seems and it just didn't match the fight scene at all. OP/ED was great and matched the anime so well so I must commend them for those choices.
Animation often very crisp and smooth while remaining relatively dreary in the context of the world. Still very nice to look at. Just loved all the variety of smexy claymores.... :eyespin: Ophelia being my personal favorite with Jean and Clare coming in a close 2nd and 3rd. Eh... Flora wasn't bad either :D eh hem.... moving on..... Only thing that killed it was the ending.... they made Raki quite the Goat.... Being one of my favorite characters I had hoped they had used him in a better way rather than make him public enemy number 1. Speaking of which Priscilla also must be put on my list for her raki rape. >_> ok ending this needlessly long post.... I personally place it as the 3rd best anime of the summer season right behind TTGL and Seto no Hanayome.... I definitely will look forward to a season two.

It's really hard to grade this anime...
Like the first 20 episodes I would give a 9 or a 10, for great storyline (due to manga) and stylish art and good animation.
but after they started deviating and leading up to the last episode... it was pretty painful.. and i had to subtract points. So..
should i be grading this anime as a whole? or just what they did before they decided to kill it?
If it wasn't for the Teresa arc, this would have been just another show. But the sheer emotion in which that part of the story was told made up for almost every other fault the show had...except the ending. The ending might have been excusable if it had actually been an ending, but instead it mirrors the end of the northern campaign of the manga, and thus ended up wasting a potentially good way to pick the story up when more chapters are available due to the changes (Raki and Priscilla specifically).
So overall, I'd give the show a 9 out of 10. Had they just ended it with the seven swords scene, this would have gotten a perfect score.

I actually laughed when Teresa was decapitated... J/k :p Actually there are plenty of other shows with these sad moments. They haven't built the character of Teresa enough for me to actually go overly emotional.

I guessed it was an 8/10, and I hated the last episodes as much as you did. Looks like my guess was very close :P
Claymore is my favorite anime/manga, but the last episodes are not bad because they went wrong with the manga. They are awful because they simply sucked IMO. I won't vote
yanno since it's around episode 20ish that the anime split from the manga due to the anime out distanceing the manga you would have to wonder in part how did it manage to still stay so close to the manga?
I think they did a lot of phone confferincing to tell each other what the other were doin so that they wouldn't stray from each other to much but since they had already they let that slide some sadly.
NOW!! as for a season 2 i have no doubt that there will have to be a flashback sequence to help account for some of the missing parts that they didn't cover in season 1 that the manga did. IE their survival for one. Then they can work on patching their running astray in however manner they intend on doin it. I just wish i could get MH to answer me and tell me a straight up answer on season 2.

Argh, too much Flora hate going on, I can't stand it.
Anyway, I didn't actually vote, too indecisive. Would give a 10 for Flora being in the series, but would have to consider taking away points for her dying. But then, does just her presence in the series outweigh that enough to still give a 10? Ah, the life of a fanboy is a difficult one.
To post below: I was not referring to you, heh.
now did i say i hated flora? nope not one bit i just stated my theory why people tend to like her. personally i think she's cute and has a nice soft voice and uses that to command respect inspite of it being such =)

But it was such great comedy relief for such a dark and gloomy series. Just treat Flora like a person in the background dying except the person in the background happens to be very attractive. I mean her role was like she came she saw and she died.
I dont hate flora I just thought the scene was funny as hell.

Heh, you have quite a morbid sense of humor.:heh: Not just saying that as a Flora fanboy either, I couldn't care less about Veronica, Undine, etc. but still wouldn't call what happened to them "comedic relief".
I also wouldn't really call Flora a total background character, she at least had those scenes talking/fighting with Clare before the main battle. I was hoping that would lead to something more but unfortunately the author chose not to expand upon it and just had her killed off.

Episode 18 is still my fave. That's the start of the Pieta series. Also the episode where the Slashers meet again, introduces Flora, Undine and stalker Jean as 2ndary characters.

Yea I got a messed up sense of humor :(
Well background might be a tad exaggerated but there's just a lot of characters that are in claymore that I felt werent really developed much but since the manga artist is such a great character designer he makes ppl love/like em. I think if they made flora and undine put up some fight against rigardo I would be more satisfied with their characters. To just get owned so bad is just too funny.
My favorite episode has got to be ep 10. Ill watch that one over and over and over. TRUE DESPAIR?!! WHAT

i just watched the anime, actually the entire series after a buddy of mine told me about it, and its very different from the manga. i think the animation is superb, and the characters better looking than the manga but the manga's story telling is better than the anime, i mean, way better.

Was really the only avatar I could find around here that wasn't already in use. Her eyes do look kinda weird I guess but it doesn't look anything like THAT scene to me. And trust me I know, that image is very clear in my mind and still haunts me to this day.
As far as episodes go, 18, 19, etc. are all good. Anything that shows Flora and doesn't show her dying.

Yea man so this guy I told to watch the anime first before reading the manga this is his comment
"Just finished Claymore, I don't know what everyone was talking about it dropping in quality around episode 20, perhaps the manga was just a lot better."
he also had the same gripe as i did Though I do have to complain about how it ended, there are a lot of things they could've done to give a solid end in the same amount of time and better ones at that.
For one Priscilla should have died, that should have been a must...

Haha, now that's funny. Well, at least my "poor skill in pic selection" got you to post a pic and use an avatar of a character you don't even like. Anyway, this isn't the Flora discussion thread so I'll shut up now.:heh:
But yeah, I also agree with your gripe regarding the series ending.
Priscilla not dying or even being punished or captured etc. kinda makes the whole quest of the main character pointless. I can understand if they were going for a "revenge isn't everything" theme, but it's kinda awkward knowing Priscilla is just gonna continue going around eating people. Getting rid of her would have been as much a preventative measure as revenge.

lol this avatar is going to be gone as fast as flora in the anime.:D I NEVER SAID I DIDNT LIKE FLORA.
Well I guess we just gotta assume that Claymores don't value human lives much. They rarely interact with humans and treat saving them as their job. They were raised as claymores since they were little. Just look at Teresa(before clare) and ophelia. Then you got all sorts of looneys like prissy. Maybe somewhere clare finds it worth protecting those worthless humans after living amongst them.

Don't really know if these actually require spoiler tags since the premise of the thread is that people have seen the entire series, but will keep them to be safe:
Yeah, I'm sure a lot of them don't care about humans at all but I definitely don't get that vibe from Clare. Not to mention Raki, even though he saved her I doubt he just accepts the whole eating people thing. I don't really know what else they could have done as taking her with them or trying to make her human again wouldn't work and would probably be pretty lame plot twists, but to just let her go still seems awkward to me.

Well raki is a stupid kid he doesnt except her eating thats why he hugged her and told her that she shouldnt eat guts when they were in the cave. He knows its wrong but I think he knew prissy had a tragic past and doesnt want to see her die. Hypocritical little boy that just needs to grow up.
lol heres another thing he said
"Though the quality of the show didn't really drop in quality nor was it much of a powerup fest. (I was expecting it to turn into DBZ, lol) "

Even so though, I'd think at least he'd have tried again to "convince" her to stop, even though it'd be completely pointless. Though it really isn't out of character for him to just be confused and let her go, I still don't agree with the decision to end it based on that. I'd also hoped Clare had enough resolve and intelligence to at least do something, I guess Raki alone was enough to convince her otherwise though.

if they do their pretty much alone in that respect. I can respect the feelings they make him display and the emotions he seems to have for clare . . . I can respect him having those anyone would after having been saved by someone specially someone as attractive as clare is it's only natural but geesh enough is enough. i heard a rumor that instead of the title in the manga of "invasion of pieta", they were gonna name it "invasion of raki".
azurie: im new to the manga and anime, but i know whining and overkill when i see it. it was the pieta stories that drew out clare's inner demons, but bad for us, madhouse just didn't let up with the raki "invasion". they should've separated his scenes completely instead of cutting in to the action. i think that's why people disliked him.
also another thing i noticed, in the discussion boards, people who usually defend him didn't even vote for him...what gives with his 10 votes?
i agree i felt he was over acting but as you may or may not have noticed there is a thread for discussing Raki so i won't go into much more detail on him here unless it relates to the over all story line sorry about that have been stepped on to often and lessons learned and such =). But as far as his acting relates to the series as a whole yes it should have been down played a lot. I could see over zealous kid but there is a limit to belief we will allow.

raki is the reason for AIDS and global warming
:heh:LMAO, that was the funniest thing I've read in a while. For a second I thought he was going to be blamed for the war in iraq. While I have already pointed out I am no Raki fan, I do think he is necessary in the story as a sidekick/love interest/person who is constanly trying to improve(a.k.a Guts minus the whole having mad sword skills thing). And to that end, Madhouse just decide to give the kid an "advantage"(immortality hack:D) so he could survive thoroughtout the adventure...seems fair. This improved the story in any places. I think its best to view this anime as if there were NO MANGA for it. This way there are no other standards to compare it to and people might be able to see it as an orginal series. And if the end was any indication madhouse might do another completely independent season from the manga, I for one would watch it.
Madhouse just decide to give the kid an "advantage"(immortality hack:D)

It wasn't exactly a "stupid" ending. To me, it was PAINFULLY "pass-able". Sure I knew Jean was going to die. I didn't know that she stupidly had to bring Raki WITH HER, and ruin the ending. Someone said here that Jean deserved to die for bring Raki up the mountain and ruining everyone's day, and I tend to agree. LOL

well it was known that Jean was going to die if for no other reason than she was going to pay back the life she owed Clare. In that i give Jean props to stick through a gapin hole in the stomach like she had and kept even to the end just to pay back a friend what she felt she owed was touching. I just wish that raki would grow a set (hair balls anything just a set) and learn how to NOT whine so bloody much. his compassion is a nice offset to the indifference of the claymores in general IMO that is the main thing i like about him. HE makes them seem more human just by being near them.

i agree to that sentiment. just act cool about it. now if i were the writer of the series, instead of using "claaaaaaaaaare" 2000 times in 7 episodes, i would insert, "i think clare is in danger" ..and no crying!

Irene was a bit more calm than the others in the org were so i kinda doubt she would kill him maybe teach him a lesson or ten and make him more obiedent hehe

I will give a 7 out of ten, the beginning were really average nothing special about it. However when it reached Teresa and Clare's story I was freaking hooked. That arc was so amazing and I had something to look forward to; Clare killing Priscilla. After that the show got really fun and interesting and it seems that nothing will go wrong, then came the ending. Wow probably one of the worst ending ever, damn Raki getting in way and Clarie should have just killed Priscilla. The whole show was like LBJ with Vietnam, both almost could have been great and yet both screwed in the end. Now if there was a second season then it's somewhat understandable, but so far there isn't any news and I have to give a 7.

8/10 for the sake of the kick-ass voice cast (except seiyu for Raki). Overall, the animation quality is so-so:
- Characters were not as sharp and defined as in manga (I think the manga drawings of Clare, Galatea, and Flora are cute)
- Monocolor background thru-out (mostly blue!)
- Bad, bad ending. I don't even want them to make a second season, unless they redo the last couple episodes.
- Not enough music scores.
The hightlight of the anime was the introduction of seiyu Houko Kuwashima (Claire). Her voice is pretty sweet! I have a couple of series in which she features without noticing:D
Yeah, Clare's song is very sweet and makes me feel like I'm in love or something :P . Galatea's song is also very sweet and calms me down and makes me chill and relax. Irene's and Ophelia's songs rock and make me more active :) And Teresa's song kinda makes me sad. Helen's song is great and completely suits her <3

Before he dies, he should suffer first. Well, in hindsight, he made US suffer for letting us hear those cries for "Clare" SOOO many times, so it's fair to do that to him as well.
Lol yea he should :thinker:
Don't worry guys. If Raki stays with Priscilla and Easley he will eventually get eaten and thus our dreams will come true. It's not so impossible, after all this could be another reason for Clare to kill Priscilla ^^
Well yea but i think he might be turned into a AO/or Yoma using Eshely flesh and then clare has to face him ...now that would rockkkkkkk
Raki getting pwned by his love-girl. That would own. Take that emo kid
I Gave this a 9/10 as a whole. One reason why it didn't get a 10 was because they went off at the end. The animation made up for that or it would have got a 7. I really do hope they do a second season when the manga gets ahead. :3

Yes, but if you read the manga and have watched the anime you feel a sense of disappointment, why base an anime off of a manga that stays faithful then diverges, it kinda defeats the purpose of it almost, but you are right that anime's don't need manga's to keep going. Just stating that i think personally it kinda ruins it.
As for the anime itself i gave it a 7/10 it had good voice acting except for erm...Flora's, the story was very faithful till 19-26, though 19 only had a few minor changes but they set up the other 7 eps, character development was good though

I understood what Art was talking about, and yes the separation is acceptable BUT I can also understand RX5 as well. What RX5 is saying that it is close to OR hardly feasible to JUST watch the anime, when you need to scratch that cLaymore itch and HAVE to read it because now you are emotionally involved in the story. That point I get.
Now whether we SHOULD watch it separately? That's callous to say but that's your opinion. The anime had a lot of plotholes ridiculously difficult to navigate and although I am a fan of the anime, the anime stands on it's own but the writing is amateurish, compared to the manga. I watched the anime once and that's all I need to know that the attempts to differentiate itself from the manga didn't do well.

However, Claymore ended up as being something of a disaster as an anime. I really don't know why they didn't just put things on hiatus and release another season when they had more material.
I mean they did something like ~70 episodes worth of Monster. Wouldn't surprise me if Death Note gets the same treatment (has it by the way?).
Personally, I would have been more interested in the series if they had just written their own take on it. That way, I'd have two unique interpretations to intrigue me and none of the jaded expectations. As I said somewhere before, the peasantry and world-building just didn't matter in Claymore. (One word: Raki.)
Action sequences and animation in general could have been better. Seriously, the action sucked. No joke. It's just lazy when all the Claymores end up using the same animation that Irene has for her Flash Sword. That's just lazy and it downplays Irene's legacy in the story. That sort of loose attention to detail also pulled me out of the fights of the Northern Campaign. Enemies also usually fight too stupid and have too much time for talk. Do we need to have the same action-shounen cliches?
Well no matter, it's not like you'd get a high-budget action sequence if the money isn't there. Still, I figured they could have actually adapted the manga to their own vision.
Not bad. Gave it a 7. It entertained me for a time, but now I'm bored again.

i watched the anime first without knowing there was a manga out there to read. Having said that i've now read all 74 chapters of the manga and will read 75 soon as it's avalible for me to view. =) I've enjoyed both versions of it and can appreciate all opinions mentioned don't always agree but can appreciate them none the less =)

Although I haven't really watched that many anime in the past. I really did enjoyed the whole 26 episodes, even though the ending like many have already said wasn't really what we had expected, nevertheless tho, I still think it's an awsome series. I am really looking forward to seaons 2 of claymore, hopefully the producers would make it.

Ya sure the manga continues the story properly so it's gotta be better but this anime was really really really good, even with the craptastic lava-wrestling steel cage death match between clare and prissilla. If you count just this first like 20ish episodes it's like an 11 out of 10. The sound and animation quality rank among the best i've ever seen.
Also the Teresa and Clare back story that takes place is like a tale for the ages, old Billy Shakespeare himself would be jealous at the emotions it invoked out ( at least me) of its viewers.

lets say, that part caught me, i had to watch the damn thing 3 times
however, the ending sucked, releatively, of course, to the series
ah, and the general visual style gets a 10 from me, cant no have those eyes..
Hope S2 will caome and not be ruined by obese romance, and continue to be a edgy as S1

My brother told me that if I hadn't read the manga I wouldn't have been disappointed by the ending. I don't know what it is but when fillers start popping up I start getting angry. It begins welling up deep inside of me and starts slowly as I compare in my head. Then as the animation quality drops because they are making it up I start squinting while my right eye begins twitching. Then characters do things that make them annoying or even things completely out of character. The worst part is that I know that nothing that happens during fillers is important. It doesn't matter at all.
A part of me really wants to be able to sit down and enjoy fillers, but there is that other part of me that hates them. The part of me that hates fillers has the advantage because it is crazy.
If the show were popular enough they might be able to pull an Evangelion on it and give it several new endings with new improved fight scenes.

The Bleach anime forum is that-a-way --->

I watched the anime before I ever read the manga. The S1 anime ending was "so-so" (too late here to go into the detail).
But after you read the manga and look back you realise it could of been just so much more. I am fully aware that the manga wasn't completed up to that point as the anime was being created, it just seems they could of gone in a better direction.
Ah well.
When all is said and done, I still enjoyed it for what it was.
Oh and a quick note on fillers. I'm completely against there ever being a Claymore S2 unless there is enough manga to create another full length series. If it ever become filler... filled.. well, I would just go watch more bleach.

Watched the anime... THEN read the manga.
While the anime was good in terms of production quality, it did cut out the essentials of the story in whole, and changed the ending entirely.
I'm becoming a fan of the manga and am patiently waiting to see what happens with Galatea.... or the demise of Miata and Clarice.
I wish for the anime to continue. But if it does, we may have to wait until the entire manga series has ended. Thus, they may make an OVA out of it, deterring from the TV anime's ending, starting at the Battle of Pieta and using the manga's original storyline instead.
And this message is also for those who haven't read the manga yet.....
-READ THE MANGA!

I only decided to watch this series yesterday. So last night i had a claymore marathon, from 1 - 26. I rated it at 7. The story was good. The plot-twists were amusing though not at all unpredictable. The animation ranged from good to below average in certain scenes. The DBZ-esque fighting wasn't to my taste. The soundtrack is pretentious, in perticular the bagpipe tune sounded out of place, and when you got used to it you could even predict which bgm was about to start.
About the story...
Of all human bodyparts, why guts? It has to be the most disgusting...
The first few episodes didn't convince me, but the Teresa story completely won me over.
You'd think that Clare would hate the organisation as much as the yoma, but instead she became a claymore herself...
By episode 18 it was obvious that Clare wouldn't finish off Priscilla by ep. 26. But I was expecting that she wouldn't be able to, not that she would let her go.
Overall it was a good anime, with the potential to be great, but was let down in a) the details and b) the outline of the plot was badly planned, seemingly rushed.
My review is based on the anime only, as I haven't read the manga. Though I liked the story so much (except the guts bit thing) that I decided to take up this manga.
In a nutshell...
Some might say it's a very watered down berserk, with alot of elements from noir.
Personally, I would say that Claymore is to berserk what Rahxephon is to Evangelion.

Or would you have prefered that Yoma target humans to eat their brains instead?
Sorry, but the brains are already taken. What's the purpose on having zombies swarming around in b-horror films, if out of the blue the spectators get bored and start to complain that they don't want zombies eating brains anymore?
What's the purpose to have Yoma rampaging around if the spectators begin to condemn that they only eat guts specifically?

I wouldn't have a problem with yoma eating brains. Human flesh would've been fine, heart too. It's just that guts are too disgusting. I know what your saying, that I'm looking into it too much. I'm not really, it's just an annoying detail.

Clare when small is so cute..
Ok i have to give it a 7/5
the minus points is for
A) the story was god and deep on 3/4 of the series, but at the end chapters this feels forced in any way
b) being a series focused on figthing with swords the animation has to be imo, more well developed at the end, but instead it feels the same at every point in the series, ( for any in regard of this see elemental gelade any chapter lack on animation, but the end chapter is superb )
c) a mayority of repetitive flahes of story as refill for chapter ( so how many times is teresa been inyhilated? )
as for the series overlay is god, and of curse hopping the second season

I have to say Claymore probably changed not only the way I look at anime, but also the way I feel about story-telling in general.
Looking back I can't quite pinpoint what it is that makes Claymore so powerful and memorable, but I can say with a fair amount of certainty that no other Anime, and possibly no other story of any kind will ever be able to compete for the place in my heart that Claymore holds.
As for my rating, if anyone cares:
Art/Animation: 9/10
While Claymore obviously doesn't have jaw-dropping or even especially GOOD animation, the execution of it is still great and the style of artwork is nearly perfect in my eyes.
Characters: 10/10
I've never seen an Anime with so many different characters that were not only unique, but also interesting, likeable, and most of all, memorable.
Not to mention the fact that I consider Teresa to be the most awesome and loveable anime character of all time.
Plot: 8/10
Not the most incredibly original or detailed plot ever written, but it avoids almost all of the worst anime cliches and manages to stay fresh and interesting from beginning to end. Well...sort of. The final few episodes of the anime were of considerably lower quality than the rest, with what I consider being the worst point of the entire series being Raki's horrible and pathetic "why can't we all get along" speech in episode 26. However, I was pleasantly suprised by the lengthy and emotionally satisfying epilogue, even if the show failed to wrap up even a single major plot thread.
Sound/Voice: 10/10
The voice acting was what really brought the characters to life for me. Amazing jobs from all the major characters. I loved each one and now can't really imagine any of the characters with any different voice.
The sound effects were also excellent, although I rarely pay much attention to them in any anime unless they are awesome enough to really stand out.
Music: 7/10
While the OST did contain some memorable pieces, most of it was pretty average and sometimes was inappropriate to the scene. However it was very well suited to the feel of the anime overall and I have no real complaints about it.
Overall I give it a 9/10, even though it is quite possibly my favorite story of all time I cannot ignore some of the let-downs of the later episodes. Including the fact that episodes 19-26 were practically one huge fight with very little plot or character development.
Thank God for the manga ;)

2007-12-30, 20:09
I was following the anime while it was airing and now I finally caught up to where the manga is. After being caught up to the manga and seeing the manga perspective of Claymore, I've come to appreciate the job that the animation team has done even more. While the ending of the Claymore anime was disappointing to say the least, the beginning of it was so well done that it shaped the manga plot into something better than what it is.
Although the plot supplied by the manga has always been splendid, some parts were quite dull. What the animation team was able to do was to bring out the significance of the plot and to let us "experience" the world of Claymore. Examples of this would be Teresa's death and the fight with Rigaldo (before the anime stopped following the manga). The special effects of Teresa`s death and the way they animated it just totally captured the mood of that moment and fully expressed that state of shock intended.
While the ending was sub-par to average, there wasn`t much that they could have done. Another possible ending that they could have done was to follow the manga until all 24 Claymores were knocked out. Then, the anime ends with people thinking that all 24 were killed. This might be a little unsatisfying though. If they are going to make a second season, they should start with a little recap from the Pieta battle had it not been changed from the manga and continue there.
Art: 7/10
Now, if I hadn't watched this series so many times, I would have probably given it 9 or even 10 but because I've watched it so many times I noticed that the faces of the characters weren't consistent. Not just faces but even breasts were enlarged/reduced in size in various occasions! I would've let go of this one but it was very noticeable even from my first watch. I didn't like the fact that torn gears or those which were stained with blood magically get "fixed" few min later.
Animation: 8/10
Overall, very good but in some of the action-packed scenes, I felt that there weren't sufficient frames to make the animation smooth (e.g. Ophelia Scene) but other than that it's pretty good. Another issue was how various chars reflect so slow to the events going on (e.g. Again Ophelia scene where the AB simply waits for Ophelia to finish her talk then attack or Helen waiting for Rigard to strike her while she stands still). I could understand that this can be a problem of how the story was been told but in the animation they could've made it look natural. I mean those are warriors who know better than to stand still waiting to get hit.
Plot/Story: 9
Now, if I don't consider the manga, I felt the whole plot was pure awesomeness right from the very beginning to the very end except for the Raki shit of "why can't we all get along?". After I read the whole manga, I see why the anime went on a different path at later episodes but I think that was very acceptable but again the Raki shit bothered me even more.
Anyhow, the whole story was very interesting, every bit of it. Only one part of which I kept skipping but it's very minor anyway.
Characters: 10/10
Every single char involved in this anime was interesting in its own way; even Raki. I have to admit that up to this day, Teresa is the best anime char I've seen. Her arc made Claymore shine more.
Voice Acting: 10/10
I thought it was one major factor for brining those chars to live and since I watched the anime before reading the manga, I wasn't expecting something in particular. I thought Ophelia's VA was the best among them but all of them were awesome.
Music: 9/10
Why not 10/10? Because the music wasn't applied nicely. The music by itself is perfect IMO but in the anime in some cases they weren't implemented very professionally as one could notice the sudden jump in the sound in the very same track.
Overall: 9.5/10
Obviously it's not the average of what I've written above but to me, Claymore is one piece of art that I loved and enjoyed very much despite of the flaws. I'd absolutely love a second season but that seems far from occurring any time soon unless the anime follows a totally new plot from the manga.
Just finished this series over youtube.
Good series and entertaining to watch.
I recommended it to my friends that haven't seen it yet and they're pretty hooked on it atm ^_^
Only thing I found a bit annoying was "Raki" and final battle could have been done slightly better.
Really looking forward to a 2nd season, hopefully.

I saw the anime first, and was satisfied with it. However, after reading in the manga about
-Easley vs. Luciela.
-#1 and 2, Alicia and Beth.
-Rafaela & Luciela's story.
-The survivors of the battle of Pieta 7 yrs. later and how powerful they have become, especially Clare and Miria (it's awesome when they fight).
-Clare acting defiant against Riful, deceiving her... and still ESCAPING WITHOUT A SCRATCH.
-Miata and Clarice hunting Galatea.
-Agatha vs. Galatea vs. Miata
it is painful to think about what Madhouse did, especially with
-Getting Clare and Raki together again
-Clare vs. Priscilla
At least the main characters that are alive after Pieta are the same in the anime and the manga. It is not impossible to reorient the story towards the manga...

All I can really say is.... There better be more. The show was great, nearly a 10/10.... And then that ending, what the hell where they thinking. That ending is so horrible it bumps the whole thing down to a 6-7 out of 10.. It's like they still had content on paper, then ran out of episodes to put it all in.
If the show continues for more seasons (and ends better) then it could be my new fav anime of all time... But if this is it..... That's not enough.

2008-01-11, 04:09
Haha, sorrowsiren, I agree about the ending. I waited patiently every week after while it was coming out. Ok, I waited but I wasn't patient. I danced when Riguardo finally made his appearance. The animation was pretty good, I liked the voice actors, I felt for the characters...
And then Raki pulled a Ghandi passive resistance strike on some man eating monsters.
I hope they wait until the series is complete and then do all of it. I don't trust mad house with any filler stuff after that ending. Are there any shows that have good filler? I have like a spider sense for fillers in most shows even when I haven't read the manga an anime is based off of. Really even ending it with the warriors surviving 7 years later would have been much better.
Don't give up hope.
Like I said in other thread, there is good chance 2nd season would be made.
BTW when does Claymore DVD come to America?
And how many Claymore DVDs have been sold in Japan so far? (just rough estimate would suffice)

Season2 -> The world is savedYou're aware that if they make a season 2, either you have to wait for the manga to be finished, in 6 years (80 chapters or so, even if not finished, to just match the amount of material for first season, 12 per year), or you accept that the animators adlib like they did for the season 1 ending, but for, like the 22 last episodes, out of 26, right?
Face it, it's not happening.

Why is that? will animes be history in 6 years? It's possible since the original claymore fans had to wait 6 years to get the anime. We could wait 6 years. Long period but it's not like we are gonna be doing nothing until Claymore 2 is out (if ever). :p

There is another thing bugging me about that anyway: for the life of me, I cannot come with an example of a direct sequel made more than 6 years after the original aired.

direct sequel after 6 years...
well, if prequels are ok too :heh:, Souten no Ken (prequel of Hokuto no Ken) comes to my mind...
and even if it's a legendary series, this prequel wasn't that successful they say..., so sequels after a long time are rare and risky :(
So DVDs are selling better than I thought it would considering that Claymore is not targeted to main Shonen group. Hope it continues to sell well so that it may get licensed in America!
considering that Claymore is not targeted to main Shonen group. It's not? Gee could have fooled me, with all these fights, powerlevels, techniques and girl with skintight outfits. :p
well I know this is not really a place to discuss this sort of thing
but knowing Claymore getting licensed is granted, what kind of factors make companies in North America to choose which anime to license?
And why does it take long to license animes?

Main Shounen audience = Ages 12-17 or so. Claymore is targeted at the 17-21+ audience.
With all the violence and mature subject matter...and the fact that it was aired on an after-midnight timeslot. Not many highschool teens of the main Shounen age group would have been seeing this. :p
Maybe, I cannot predict the future, though I find it extremely dubious anyone could maintain enthusiasm for a shonen anime like Claymore over that period.
There is another thing bugging me about that anyway: for the life of me, I cannot come with an example of a direct sequel made more than 6 years after the original aired.
Claymore isn't your everyday shounen anime. Claymore is the type of phenomenon that creates underground cult followings if nothing else. ^^
Since the manga won't be ending for at least another 5-6 years, Claymore enthusiasm will definately still be around at that point.
But it won't be 6 years. With the ending like they did, most likely probability is that season 2 will be in the next 1-3 years, and will be 50% fillers detailing the events of the 7-year timeskip or something like that.
And the thought of that many fillers doesn't especially scare me. Madhouse has proven themselves to be an excellent studio: Death Note, Monster, Black Lagoon, Trigun, etc...they are responsible for some of the best and most intelligent anime around. I have faith that they could actually produce some decent Claymore work if they tried hard enough. The ending of season 1 seemed more like it was rushed rather than just scripted by a horribly incompetent writer. There are only a few details of the final episode that just needed some slight tweaking and it would have been fine. Not excellent like the rest, but good enough. When it's a question of details ruining it, that points more towards lack of time and thought put into the script.
well I know this is not really a place to discuss this sort of thing
but knowing Claymore getting licensed is granted, what kind of factors make companies in North America to choose which anime to license?
And why does it take long to license animes?
Main factor when choosing an anime to license is popularity and size of target audience. Since Claymore isn't really the type of thing you would see on Cartoon Network it would probably be a straight to DVD release. Which means it will probably take a bit longer than the more popular series.
Gunslinger Girls too. Anyway, in all these cases, Madhouse followed an existing manga storyline, which meant little to no filler. Every time they made a filler, I saw complaints about them.
Also, it is ridiculous to make an anime about a story whom you only know the first part, it means fillers at the start, to pad and to synchronize the end of S1 with the start of manga storyline, and fillers at the end, in short the ending of S1, but longer and even more disconnected, since noone knows how manga would end this time. Might as well make it 100% filler, at this rate, or make a short OAV with the minor arcs, avoiding any reference to the real plot.
Also, of course, as Gunslinger Girls proves, it's not always the same company that produces the sequel.
I don't understand why you people martirize yourselves thinking things through on how they can come up with a possible way to start the Claymore sequel, that connects the storyline back on track with the manga based on the state the anime-original arc concluded the show.
To me is easy.
Option A:
Madhouse can do the same thing that Production I.G. did for the Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations OVAs.
The OVAs of Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations completely ignored all the last fillers that happened at the end of the second season of the Tsubasa TV series, beginning the Tokyo arc from the Tsubasa manga where the manga storyline last stopped in the anime.
Same applicable principle for a possible Claymore OVA. It ignores completely all the events of the anime-original arc and starts with Northern War arc, how it should has to be in the manga, and from the on goes with the rest of the manga storyline.
Option B:
Another studio picks up the Claymore franchise and restarts it again with a series of OVA releases that closely follow the manga just like both Satelight and Geneon (Japan) are doing with the Hellsing Ultimate OVAs, after the fiasco that Gonzo did with the Hellsing TV series.
However, if this second possibility ever is considered and materializes they should have to wait until the manga has progressed far enough.
The manga likely won't be ending until mid-2013. Production for a new OVA could well begin until 2011 with the first volume released by 2012, and afterwards following OVAs would follow at certain time intervals to allow the manga to finish.

I like those ideas a lot more than just tacking on a second season Guido. There really isn't much salvaging it right now. Priscilla's role as a regressed child is busted. Clare is back with Raki. Pieta was a success. ...
They could always go the FMA route with an alternate storyline. Granted, it takes some very good writing and the original magna artist being around to offer "alternate ideas" for the story, but it could happen.
Personally, I just want to see it get licensed.

Chiba,
Bleach fillers were okay if you liked Bleach, although the whole series--filler and non-filler seemed to nosedive after the soul society arc. ymmv, I still enjoy it.
The obvious way to do fillers is get the creator's input and then just focus on some Claymore in a distant region, or even some Claymore that left the 47 regions entirely. The filler gets complete autonomy without messing up the manga.
As for Raki, he formed a bond with Prisc, if I remember correctly, so there wass some justification for passive resistance. I liked the end :heh: before I read the manga, then I was :frustrated:
My yoriki is agitated. I sense we're getting closer to another chapter.

I don't know what it is about fillers and me. I can smell them coming. Even when I haven't read the manga. It is like I have a spider sense. And they probably shouldn't bother me. They just do. Although sometimes I will muscle through them if I enjoy a fictional universe enough, like Frank Herbert's book Dune. Even though the extra stuff wasn't great it kept me in the universe and gave me more information, which was a bucket of fun.

A bit late perhaps? I'm trying to watch all the anime people think is "good," so here it is:
The Teresa arc, by no doubt, a 10. It was pretty much the best action arc I've seen in my life, and that's saying somewhat a lot. Even though the ending was quite confusing and well, bad, I only thought that the series lost the momentum it built up, and not just totally bombed it. I gave it a 9/10 because I won't put more weight on the final episodes for no reason at all. Claymore was good, very good, and for that fact it's mostly good, therefore worthy of a nine.
So far all the "good" anime that I'm not interested in from reading its synopsis was actually good. Next to tackle is Death Note, so wish me luck everyone!

There is an english version up to something like volume 8 I think, and you can get translated scans for the rest.

I seriously think the anime is being unfairly trashed. The ending was as decent as it could possibly get, considering the ongoing storyline of the manga.
They could have gone for a completely open ending like Berserk, but they opted to give some closure in the likes of Gantz. Of course a manga reader would hate the second type because it alters the story, but an anime only watcher would prefer it over the first any time.
For the type of ending the chose to give, it was well executed.

I thought so as well but even before reading the manga I thought the Raki interference part wasn't good. The whole of beating Priscilla who was obviously superior by just remembering Teresa wasn't good either.
It's not that bad but it wasn't that good either.

Berserk is a bad example as they choose a poor place to end the anime. With Claymore, there were a few spots they could have choosen to end it at without any real problems if they just stuck to the manga.

The anime followed the manga all the way up to about chapter 61 so there was only 12 chapters left uncovered. The anime had to slow down its pacing, use fillers, add flashbacks, and create a new ending in order to extend it to 26 episodes. Also there was no real "happy" spot they could left it at. A lot fans want them to follow the manga, but I can understand why they choose to do what they did.

Among the fantasy-based anime that I know of, I would rate Claymore below the two Lodoss series, but above Crystania, the Escaflowne movie, and Inuyasha (haven't seen all of the Escaflowne series and haven't seen Berserk at all). With that said, Claymore was one hell of a series. The character drama, intensity, and plot were all top notch. Just when I thought I had certain things guessed, it surprised me. Love it when a series does that.:D
Now, as for ratings:
Animation Quality: 9.5 - Not as detailed as Haruhi, but damn-well effective and intricate. Gotta love the effort.
Voice Actors: 10 - Spot on. Tis all I can say.
Script: 8 - Awesome early on, but fell off slightly towards the end.
Editing: 9 - Not sure how to comment here...
Emotional Involvement: 10 Annoyance, sadness, love, anger, happiness...yep, all covered.:heh:
As for all episodes combines, I give it an 8.5. As I said earlier, Claymore was brilliant through the beginning and middle, but I felt it kinda fell off towards the end. It almost felt...DBZish or Naruto-ish there. I'm not saying it was terrible. No, I actually thought it was a nice way to give the series some closure. I just feel it could've been done more effectivly. Overall, and job well done.:)
Note: I have not read the manga. In fact, I only watched Claymore after randomly picking it off the list of anime on the frontpage of this board. Man, my senses must've been guided.:heh:

I'd give Claymore a total of 8 out of 10.
As Captain Spyro said, the Voice Acting, Emotional Environment all of that were as good as they could possibly get.
The series lacks most humor. Helen can't do it all on her own, Irene's nose lost it, and there's only so many dismembered bodies you can put in there...
Raki, I can never stop laughing at truth be told, and something so pathetic as him is not worth of anything more then being laughed at; maybe once Clarice comes along (if she even does) there'll be more humor.
I gave it a 9, despite my extreme pain at the mutilation that was the ending. Stopping it with the Claymore's waking up after Pieta would've been perfectly respectable and would've left decent hope for a season 2.
If those second rate writers who wrote the ending, couldn't come up with a decent ending they just shouldn't have touched anything... although it might've overall been okay, if they'd just killed Priscilla(with the ending the way it was though Priscilla and Raki both definitely Need to Die!!!!.. actually just Raki dying would've made the ending less diseased.. hopefully eaten by Priscilla, comforting her while his guts were eaten so we could laugh at the moron)

I second this. I liked Raki UP UNTIL THE POINT WHERE HE MET PRISCILLA. Then he became a goddamn angst-ridden moron. Why didn't he kill Priscilla? Because he felt pity. PITY. Pity for a monster that was eating some poor person's guts right in front of him. Yet he still befriended her. *twitch*
And Priscilla killed Teresa. 'Nuff said.
That is why they both must die.

IF only it happened...Maybe Clare will start feeling so much pity for the loser to actually kill him in compassion.
Oh, and Spectacular... That scene was actually funny...
This anime was easily top 3 in my list. Storyline was pretty fresh and action was pretty good too. I knew its good because I couldn't stop watching and never got bored. Compared to other anime, this series had the least "fillers" in my opinion. Teresa and Clare is awesome, and i'm happy about the end (happy ending haha...). Looking forward to the next season already! They should make another season.... I hope.
Clare FTW!
7/10
Animation Quality: 8
With that many women I was happy the staff didn't focused on their looks.
Voice Actors: 8
Nothing to say here, I was happy there was no one with a voice that can make me turn off the sound.
Script: 6
Since it didn't give any kind of closure, I was left with a 'what-a-heck, where is your victory or loss?". Claire didn't accomplished anything and I think it was too poor wrapped up. Will there come a season 2 when the manga is done?
Editing: 7
Nothing to say there either
Emotional Involvement: 5
I was moved in the start of the show, but it just went downhill after Teresas arc.

I didn't see that the vote was anime-only. But never mind. I give 8/10 for all manga-canon parts.
First of all, cast is excellent. Good mix of older and younger VAs doing their stuff.
Story: Since I already stated "manga-canon", obviously all anime-only parts gets the thumbs down from me. However, despite the mixture of canons, Jean's death scene gets a nod from me.
Whats a manga canon? Besides being a Manga called Canon
Manga canon = using the manga version as the original work by the author.
Basically, manga canon means accepting the version that happened in the manga only. All additional parts from the anime are considered - well - additions.

additions, an euphemism for fillers.
Material that is intended exclusively for the anime so as it won't catch up with the manga, but the downside is that has nothing to do with the manga storyline.

And has a tendency to suck a lot. Don't forget that fillers almost always suck. It is rare to have a non canon bit be good, but it has happened before... I think... somewhere... maybe...
Fillers in claymore are something I'd really love to see, Dunno why.... :heh: It makes me laugh just thinking about it cuz the claymore world is too generalized, having very few themes to latch onto.
Lol, here's an example script to a claymore filler episode: - "Raki and Clare bumping into a village where they meet an old man who tries to sell them stuff. Raki, wanting to buy a gift, sells out his sword. After finding out Clare smacks him over the head for being a jackass, sending him to after the old man, but alas he turns into a squirrel and escapes. Will Raki every retrieve his sword? Will Clare ever concede to any substantial clues as to why she thought it was a good idea to keep on travelling with him?

well you'd be suprised at the number of people that came across the anime first instead of the manga (source), and then still don't actually bother to read the manga afterwards. So to this kind of audience filler or canon material doesn't really matter, as long as it's entertaining, which I guess the studio will consider if there were enough viewers this time around.
Personally I really enjoyed the anime adaption from ep 1-23.5. I'm no technical/art buff but the animation quality looked pretty good. Snippets and edits here and there to the plot were trivial. However the last 2.5 episodes just deviated too much from the manga for my own liking (and wasn't very good on it's own imo). I'm neutral about Raki's role but the last episode made me squeamish with all its cliches, which nearly brought it down to the childishness of some of the other popular shonen animes out right now.
I'm just sad cos it's taken ~6years and about 60 chapters of Yagi's manga material for only 1 measly season of claymore, meaning that since it probably isn't going to change from monthly publication for the forseeable future you'd have to wait for it to reach ~120 chapters before the next season of manga-sourced anime ... so another 3-4 years of non-anime claymore or worse, questionable fillers (manga's good enough for me :heh:)
edit: oops saw it was a sticky but didn't realise no one's replied for over a month now:upset:

I have yet to read the manga (sadly), so I can't agree or disagree with one being better than the other. However, the anime, for what it was, I thought was excellent. I really like these types of serious, fantasy action/drama shows. I kept up with all the episodes as they released. I was honestly addicted to it. :D Since I love the anime so much, I had to do it just and gave it a 10. Now, I await the DVDs to start releasing.
